If you craft and you're out in Salt Lake City area, get your butt to Clever Octopus (www. cleveroctopus. org) ASAP. I spent about $13 on this, and $10 of it was on the box full of organized DMC floss. Between this and my holiday presents from @ravensandwritings I am basically never going to want for floss again, what floss I do have now won’t need to be in a messy tangled pile on my dresser, and I have a nifty ghost patch and a few needles in the bargain.

Their art products are also reclaimed/second-hand so you get them both cheap and in wide variety, and the money goes to fund classes!

The Clever Octopus Creative Reuse Center is filled with reclaimed and reusable materials donated from businesses and individuals in and around the Wasatch Front - materials that would otherwise stay hidden in closets for decades or be sent to landfills. Materials include unique and clean manufacturing scraps, yarn, fabric and notions, scrapbooking materials, drawing and painting supplies, and so many more treasures.

The Octopod mobile outreach vehicle is a fully equipped mobile classroom, stocked with a plethora of materials for creative exploration and staffed by Clever Octopus’ artists. The Octopod will host classes throughout the Salt Lake Valley and beyond when it visits schools, adult care facilities, residential treatment centers, community outreach programs, community festivals, and private events.

I’m teaching a class at @cleveroctopus y’all!! Using reclaimed materials from their wonderful shop to teach how to make a simple booklet. With these skills you can advance to larger books as you improve. It’s the basis for the books I make, and I’m very excited to teach it! These pamphlet stitched notebooks are made out of card stock or leather, scrapbook paper, and embroidery floss. Each student will learn how to use supplies thoroughly and limiting waste. All materials are reclaimed and from the Creative Reuse Center. This workshop will be taught by Sarah K., who has been a maker for as long as she can remember. Painting, mixed media pieces, and bookbinding especially are her loves.
