1. “From This Moment On” by Shania Twain — this is my mom’s and my song. my birthday is coming up (sunday the 30th 🥰), and i’ve been listening to it a lot. i am extremely grateful to be alive for multiple reasons, and i’m extremely grateful to have my mom alive as well. “all we need is just the two of us. my dreams came true because of you.”

2. “Burn Me Down” by Nathan Sykes — i like to listen to love songs and imagine myself in a romance story that i make up as i listen. this has been one of them lately. i know that’s probably cheesy, but throughout middle/high school (and even now) i’ve been made fun of or cast aside because of my size, so i’ve done this to give me some hope. “tell me you love me by the way you burn. your fire ignites me, don’t let it fade away.”

3. “Toa La Noche” by CNCO — i’m sure i’ve mentioned this at least once before, but i’m puerto rican (genetically, at least. i was born in the midwest, and don’t have much connection to the actual island). latin music is a big part of my life, as it helps me feel at least a little bit closer to my culture. i am white presenting (though most of my family is brown, as we have taíno and african ancestry), and for a lot of my life i hadn’t know much about my culture. so listening to music helps a bit, as well as anything i learn now. “por favor, quédate. no te pido nada más. esta noche, bebé, sé que no lo olvidarás.” // “please, stay. i won’t ask anything else of you. this night, baby, i know you won’t forget it.”

4. “favorite crime” by Olivia Rodrigo — i hope i don’t have to explain this one, but this song has been on my rotation for a few weeks since i wrote my first elvis fic. “i watched as you fled the scene, doe eyed as you buried me. one heart broke, four hands bloodied.”

5. “Fever” by Elvis Presley — i hope i don’t have to explain this one either 😂 the man gives me fever 🥵 “i light up when you call my name, and you know i’m gonna treat you right. you give me fever…fever all through the night.”

BONUS: “False God” by Taylor Swift — i’ve been worshipping aphrodite for almost 3 years now, and this is the song she sends to me when i’m having a hard time, especially with religious trauma (i’m a former jehovah’s witness 😢). “we might just get away with it. religion’s in your lips, even if it’s a false god….we still worship this love.”

this year i used tidal (and therefore this is ‘most listened’ not ‘on repeat’!), and even though i’ve been using it for like 10 months, i still haven’t transferred all my saved or favorite songs so my listening has definitely been pretty current, as things are coming out and i’m adding them to my tidal (except my mario kart playlist from last year... which was the most important playlist and therefore i needed to transfer it). anyway~ this is a fine representation, i think!

most listened to song on spotify overall, for all the time i was using spotify. i think my absolute fave zayn song will always be flower - the sheer overwhelming and moving beauty of that song cannot be overstated, but it’s not necessarily something i have on repeat unless i’m deep in the trenches of my emotions

2. take what you want - one ok rock, 5sos

there are other 5sos songs i could put here like waste the night, but there’s something so undoubtedly alexcore about this song in particular and it was my most listened to song of 2021

i think my fave halsey song is always changing and some of their collabs are also my faves including 11 minutes with yungblud and life’s a mess with juice wrld. it’s hard to pick when everything they make resonates, i think.

A song is all about loving someone and how much they mean to you. The song was used to several Filipino movies.

2. The Chainsmoker - #SELFIE - Well sorry to say, but this is the only Chainsmoker song I have on my playlist because it was the only thing good to them. #SorryNotSorry

3. Ariana Grande ft. Nicki Minaj - Side To Side (Slushii Remix) - I've been bopping to this temix for moooonths like literally when I heard this, this shit was on repeat whole day! Slushii is a bad ass DJ, and I fucking love Ariana Grande.

4. Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody - We all know every Gay™ man knows this song and it would be a shame if this song is not on my playlist, yeah. Also mom who is a big fan of Whitney, loves this song. Bless their souls in the heaven. ❤️

5. Greyson Chance - Waiting Outside The Line - I first heard this song when I was in college and I said, this boy is gonna be the next Justin Bieber. And he did. I am so proud of Greyson to be honest. He is a brave and incredible person.

6. 5 Seconds of Summer - She Looks So Perfect - This song has been my anthem to I girl I used to like. She is a Belieber (which still I am). We met in a Justim Bieber birthday bash in Manila and dn, he looks so cute. Now, he is happily married.

7. Regine Velasquez - Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw - Another Regine Velasquez classic. I love listening to sad OPM (Original Pilipino Music) songs. It relaxes me, specially with the songs of Jaya and Regine Velasquez. You guus should try listening to them.

8. Alan Walker - Faded - Well, as mush as I love OPM, I love EDM too. My genre is diverse, don't judge. Alan Walker is one of my fave DJ alongside Zedd and Cash Cash. And this song has been my bop for months! Can you believe??

9. Janine Berdin - Nasa Puso - This song is my current LSS! Like I've been singing and humming this for hours in the office. This song is also an OPM and the official soundtrack of my fave Filipino TV series, Kadenang Ginto (Golden Chain). The song is literally translated as "In The Heart."

10. CNCO - Bonita - SKSKSKSK I THOUGHT I'M NEVER GETTING A CNCO SONG! But Bonita is the most underrated song in their discography. My officemate who is not really a fan of this genre said the song is so chill. Also, Zabdiel's voice in the chorus made me wet. No joke guys.
