The Cold Ever After

Hello Tumblr, I have realized that I have been very bad at tumblr because I have a new graphic novel coming out next month! And it's queer fantasy! And I've barely even mentioned it on tumblr! What am I doing?! So, with no more ado: Meet "The Cold Ever After"

Now, unlike a lot of my books, this one is not for kids. This book has sex, nudity, gore, and violence. And drinking. And witchcraft. Basically everything your grandparents warned you about in comics.

Here's the back cover, it has an explanation of what the book is about and it goes exceptionally hard (I think).

If you can't read the image or just don't want to, here's a quick breakdown.

Noelani was selected at a young age to be the champion of Patria Lupi. She went through extensive and brutal training to be the knight that her kingdom could send on even the hardest errands. And she was very good at it. So good, in fact, that when she was nineteen she was sent to rescue the Queen-to-be, Isadora, whose castle was attacked by a dragon. She saved the Queen-to-be, but there was one problem: she also fell for her. Hard.

When the royal marriage turned out to be loveless, the queen began a torrid affair with Noelani. Noelani was basically the second parent to the princess for the first several years of her life. Until, one day, the church got wind of the affair and gave the queen the option of being exposed or exiling Noelani.

It's been fifteen years since Noelani was sent away and today the Queen has arrived at her island with a quest she only trusts Noelani with: The princess has gone missing the night before her wedding and if she isn't found in the next seven days, her fiancé is going to burn Patria Lupi to the ground. Only Noelani can save her daughter and find out what's really happening in the kingdom and she's only got seven days to do it. And somehow, she has to avoid being dragged into falling in love with the queen all over again.

I've been calling it a queer Arthurian noir and I can't wait for you all to get a chance to check it out! All likes and reblogs would be very much appreciated!

Okay so like if Noir's universe in the movie is seemingly completely monochrome greyscale, do you think that they have their own naming conventions for all the different values? Being that it's literally their only frame of reference for the world, I think they'd get pretty specific in what they call all the different greys like we do for the chromatic scale. It'd confuse the fuck out of the other spiders too lol, they're used to Noir getting confused by color names but then get utterly baffled themselves when they show him an old b&w photograph and he calls all the tints and shades by names they've never heard of before.

Also with his world being monochrome I'd imagine the people there are REALLY good at separating values that others with color vision might not be able to differentiate. I HC his night vision is way better than most other spiderpeoples too,, while most outsiders wouldn't be able to make out much in the dramatic black shadowing of his universe, to him he could pick out the subtle dark greys that lay within it.

Look, Miguels rage at Miles in Across the Spider-Verse is definetly something, but i that's nothing next to the rage (comics) Spider-man Noir would feel if he saw MCU's Spider-Man and heard his story.

There's something as polar opposites and these two are it. Noir Peter grew up with May that fights for the rights of lower and working class people, protests and stands againts the higher and ruling class.

This is how we meet May and Peter:

This Peter may hate rich guys more than any other comics Peter (whitch says alot because 616 Peter can barely stand them), so image his reaction to MCU Peter telling him about Stark and their interractions and how he fanboyed over Stark, he'd propably get slapped over the head with newspaper tbh.

Then he'd hear how Stark got Peter to come to Germany and decide to burn down Stark Industries, or beat up Tony if he was still alive.

... Honestly i think Noir would get along with Spider-Punk pretty well, i mean for a 30s man he didn't have any issues with black people, grew up being friends with them, he'd only have learn that the n-word really isn't a normal thing to use as a term these days and he should be good to go.

Also yes, this is me basicly going "go read the original two Spider-Man Noir series, Spider-Man Noir and Eyes without a face" they're really cool.

MAN THE MUSICAL NUMBERS CAUGHT ME SO OFF GUARD I HAD TO PAUSE AND STARE FROWNING okok!!! so the thing was that one time agessss ago you said liking ml fanfics is just wanting to read the same story over and over again and after that textbook 2016 post reveal final kiss that sentence just flashed in my mind and everything that happened in the movie (the ladynoir patrol fighting in the rooftops, the adrien snapping at his dad, gabriel being actually decent) just shifted in context for me and the realization of how fanfic coded the movie is and how that directly related to my enjoyment was so clear i couldnt stop laughing hdhshsjs

WOW ACTUALLY

i remember saying that and its STILL TRUE!! And honestly you're putting it in perspective for me, thats why i liked the things i liked about the movie. like the ladynoir patrol fighting on the roofs also did lowkey make my dreams come true they could have done whatever they wanted in the rest of the movie, that scene is what i live for.

And that last scene really did feel like it was out of a fanfic, A 2016 FANFIC, its OLD FANDOM VIBES. back when we were still chewing up the concept of a reveal and not picking apart the bones of adrien's identity like mad scientists.

I remember thinking im sure ive read this scene somewhere. idk where but i have. all of it in different pieces a million times.
