Fungi February: The common puffball is only edible while immature, before the spores inside turn brown. The spores expelled by the mature puffball can cause lung irritation if inhaled. Because it accumulates heavy metals, it can be a bioindicator of soil pollution.
Disclaimer: Don’t rely on pictures of cute mushrooms with eyes to accurately identify edible mushrooms. At best the wrong one will taste bad, at worst it’ll be deadly!

It's not Funguary, but I was bored and decided to draw mushrooms from photos, most of which I had saved for the challenge
I'm planning to draw mushrooms that match my OCs, but I haven't decided yet how this will be done (You may have seen one of them for 21 days with Giant Puffball)

The common puffball/gem-studded puffball (Lycoperdon perlatum) is a pear-shaped edible mushroom. They also seem to have a studded surface, hence the nickname. However, only young fruitbodies should be collected. Young fruitbodies are completely white on the inside with consistent marshmallowly texture. When puffballs are cut in half, there shouldn't be any gills present. (Meaning the shroom in question isn't a puffball) These puffballs tend to grow in groups of 3-10 on average.
Here is a cross-section of a common puffball found in the PNW. Note the consistent white insides w/o the presence of gills. (Young fly agaric mushrooms can appear to be puffballs, but when cut open, they reveal gills.)

The Fool. Art by Joseph Buckley, from The Mushroom Hunter's Tarot.
New beginnings, improvisation, opportunity, potential, and blind trust in the universe. The Fool here is represented by the Common Puffball. Though white and studded with “gems” when young, the mushroom browns with age as a hole opens near its top, readying itself to release its spores into the unknown. 🍄

November 2022: Sunday Walk
Seen while walking -
I’m sure there is an interesting explanation. My guess is DIY rain gauge:
Greens are now growing in the abandoned garden that I call The Oasis:
Collecting a spent red zinnia blossom for seeds:

Actually finished this a while ago, just now getting around to posting. This ended up being one of my favorite illustrations from this series.

Hormones are beginning to rage,
resulting in an amazing symphony of calls and melodies by the competing males. But the bird ladies also get to enjoy impressive, dramatic and sometimes hilarious visual displays, like here from Redwinged Blackbird and Grackle.

catch me realizing i don’t need to design outfits for an oc if i just make them an orb instead
anyways here’s Fayre whose primary character trait is having permanent 0.0 face and deciding that reflecting other people’s expressions is a valid workaround that definitely isn’t just as creepy. Their wings are also constantly putting out a confusion aura a la morpho’s screen inverting move so they keep em tucked out of the way when interacting with civilized folk - absolutely 100% a cryptid

I don't think Morpho (or reapers in general) have a "true" form like other Void-borns, so they usually take on the form of butterflies/different Void-borns because that's easier to perceive.
