I'm trying to figure out how to write John's POV more accurately. These are my notes on him.

He was a soldier for fifteen years. It's probably where he rested his entire identity, losing that position, and the respect of his peers must have done irrevocable damage to his self-image.

He pretty much lost his entire support system in one fell swoop. After Lemar died (who was his other half), everything else came tumbling down with him.

He doesn't do it for praise. I've seen a lot of people HC that he's vain and all that, but it's the opposite--he doesn't scroll for the praise, he scrolls for the mean comments. He took the shield to help people, not for the accolades.

He's a southern boy through and through- when he wants to, he can pull out that old southern charm and suddenly he's the nicest guy ever. he doesn't do it often tho, the army kinda beat most of it out of him.

He is insanely smart--this guy was like the most decorated active member of the army.

He's seen some shit, so I don't think there is any way he DOESN'T have some sort of ptsd.

I feel like he watches football for comfort. like he won't even be actively watching, but just put it on in the background and it's like calming.

He used to be a leader--THE guy everyone went to when they needed help. now, he's not, and it's very disconcerting to him. but also a lot of the pressure is off his shoulders.

One subtle theme in spy x family that I love is the choice between duty and family. It's something people really did have to face in times of war. Where do your true loyalties lie?

It's an easy answer for us, but you have to understand where Loid is coming from. He places the weight of the world on his shoulders alone. He holds himself partially responsible for the death of his friends because he didn't have the right information. Of only he had, he could have saved them. It doesn't matter if he'll never have a normal life as long as peace is maintained.

Now it's obvious he's starting to catch feelings for his little family. But how could he justify choosing them over the world? What if he lost them too because he wasn't actively engaged in keeping the world at peace? Losing his edge could result in fatal mistakes.

For what choice does he have? Choose his family and sacrifice the world (and perhaps countless of innocent lives), or create a world that's safe for his family, and lose them in the process? He is a spy driven not by money or recognition, but by a sincere desire to make the world a better place. But he misunderstands the key element of where we draw our strength.

The relationships and bonds we forge are our greatest defense against a raging world of hate. Perhaps the greatest work he will ever do, his most important mission, is within the walls of his own home. As the noble Faramir once said, "I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend."

getting annoyed again at how some people react to the way monsterhearts treats sexuality

by which i mean i saw a post taking the system that's like, in this specific context (teenagers in a system intended for fucking. supernatural romance melodrama.) it makes sense for sexuality to be somewhat fluid, but is also pretty clear that ultimately you do decide how your character reacts things - like, yes you can be turned on by another man even if you think of your character as a straight man (or whatever), but also you can just have him go "huh that's weird but eh, it happens and he's still largely straight" if you really care that much

(but also lets you just kind of organically go "oh yeah, i guess my character finds out their sexuality is different than they thought then", especially because it does assume your characters probably think they're straight at the start. as most teens do.)

and in reaction went "wow does this system hate lesbians specifically? does it want to force me i mean my character to date men??"

which is very. hm. well. something.

it's just, i dunno, feels a lot like a "pure good lesbianism is in danger of being attacked by the barbarians at the gate" reaction people seem frustratingly prone to >_>

(and none of this is even getting into the fact that. the "turn someone on" mechanic in monsterhearts is purely player facing. like if it actually bothers you that much then idk, play with a group that will play all girls? sounds like an easy solution to me.)

So I made an incorrect quotes post about Ziggy from RPM and Dr K’s password being ‘fuckyouZiggy’ instead if just being ‘Ziggy’ because a) it’s funny and b) way more accurate to how the characters actually interact.

Anyway, it got me thinking of this headcanon that Ziggy is one of those people who can just guess passwords with barely any prior information like Doctor Doofenshmirtz from phineas and ferb.

Mans can just walk up to any computer and clickity clack on the keyboard and get full access to it. He can’t even do anything else because he’s not tech savvy, he can only guess the password.

It drives Dr. K insane because no matter what she changes it to, no matter how random or planned out it is, Ziggy always knows.

Eventually she just changes it to ‘fuckyouZiggy’ and it just happens to be the one to stump him because Dr. K doesn’t curse (at least in front of Ziggy. She has cursed thrice in front of the rangers. Once with gem and gemma, and twice with Flynn. No one believes him when he says she’s curse before).

Summer laughs her ass off when she figures it out in that one episode.

Leelathae and Gwen as "An ugly witch"? No, that's Jack's beloved and his treasured daughter. Regardless of Leland's intentions, all of it points to his twisted feelings towards Jack. Not if he thinks the Pastel Princesses are ugly or not because they are the beloved daughters of his bestfriend. Yes he is planning on forcing a marriage for his decades long planned revenge but that doesn't grant his son the pass to insult Jack's daughter's appearance!
