ok but for real though. the pred wearing an oversized sweater to hide their prey in public .. feeling them shift and wriggle within, trying not to draw too much attention to themselves …..

… and then getting home and immediately stripping it off, kicking back and staring down at the disgruntled prey in their guts. “sorry. couldn’t let anyone see you,” the pred would mutter. “all I saw was the inside of your sweater all day,” the prey would grumble. they’d press a hand against the inside of their pred’s belly, and the larger hand would come up to meet it on the other side.

the pred liked having their prey like this. it was like a little enclosure, except it held them, warm and safe and away from the outside world. the pred could watch them in there whenever they pleased, wherever they pleased. the prey, though grumpy, wouldn’t complain — they found a strange comfort in being their pred’s object of affection, nestled warmly in their core and on display for them alone.

I think it’s the best because it’s like .. a second hug. the tummy is already enough, but hugging it too??? the prey is held by their pred in every possible way, and the pred has so much love for them that they don’t want to let go, not even for a second. it’s adorable. it’s illogical and pointless but love doesn’t care about logic or purpose. the pred refuses to leave their prey’s side in any way. they refuse to let them simply be within them — they’re experiencing this together, and the pred wants to assure their prey that they’re paying just as much attention as they are.

a silent “I’m here. I notice you. you are a constant presence. I am acknowledging you. I like to feel you within me; I like to keep you close in every way I can.” it’s pretty beautiful.

I don't really want to get into the discourse of whether buck or hen was right or wrong or whatever because everything was so complex but I wonder if part of why buck feels so strongly about maddie getting her happy ending is because of the coma dream and doug being so fresh in his mind? And we know he didn't tell bobby that he ODed in the dream so maybe he hasn't talked about doug with maddie/anyone else either? idk like clearly he hasn't unpacked all the lessons from the dream so maybe hes still trying to fix things irl

Sure I think it's pretty safe to assume his feelings about seeing Maddie get her "happily ever after" with Chim are probably amplified with the coma dream. But ultimately I just really don't want to make Buck and Hen's reactions anything more than what is true to the core of their characters and dynamics with Maddie and Chim, which is that they love them and they want to see them happy. Idk I just think looking at Buck's response in that scene and trying to interpret it as a symptom of his trauma just leans too far into creating fanon interpretations and treating them as canon and that's not a bad thing it's a natural part of fandom but I just frankly don't want to be doing that with that scene, personally. Buck and Hen's feelings were both mostly valid with the knowledge they were working off of (executions could've done some work but what argument with the people you care about, about the people you care about, is fully rational) and my own takeaway from the episode was that everyone needs someone like them in their corner
