Jake Seresin x Reader

Jake can’t believe what he’s hearing. To think that you’re actually planning on continuing to date this douchebag after how he’s treated you is absurd. “Don’t you dare consider seeing him again,” he warns, the words tumbling out of his mouth before he can stop himself. He winces slightly at how threatening they sound. What Jake really means is, please, for the love of god, don’t get hurt.

“You can’t tell me what to do,” you retort, making a face at him that suggests you’re going to do the exact opposite of what he says. That’s nothing new.

“I can if you’re gonna be stupid about it.” Another phrase which makes Jake inwardly cringe, but he’s trying to get a point across, damnit.

“Go to hell,” you say tiredly, turning away from him.

Jake releases a disgruntled sigh. “Whatever,” he replies, even though, obviously, it isn’t whatever, and he can hardly take in a breath as he storms out of your bedroom.

“Stop judging me!” you’re yelling from the threshold of your room when he reaches the stairs.

Jake gapes at you, struggling to keep his anger in check. “I’M NOT JUDGING YOU!” he roars. “I’M WORRIED ABOUT YOU!”

“WHY?” you scream, as if it isn’t evident.

Jake takes a breath, trying to compose himself. If he lets himself say any more, there will be an entirely different problem on his hands. So, he exhales slowly and starts down the stairs.

“Where are you going?” you ask, sounding alarmed.

“Home,” he replies, as unemotionally as possible, making a left at the foot of the stairs and marching straight for the front door. Before he can even get his shoes on, however, he hears a gasp and then a thump and he’s running back toward the staircase without a second thought. When he sees that you’re still standing, he claps a hand to his chest and starts breathing again. “Why are you following me?” he growls, coming up the stairs to meet you as you waver on the spot.

You blink up at him miserably when he reaches you and whimper, “I don’t want you to go.”

Jake holds you by the shoulders as you sink down onto the step. Your words induce a violent series of jolts in his chest that he’s ill-equipped to deal with in the midst of your persisting conflict. Why you don’t want him to leave has no bearing on whether or not he will stay, so why dwell on it? “Let’s get you back to bed,” he says quietly.

“I don’t get it,” Jake says once you’re tucked in, sitting down on the edge of your bed. “Why would you keep seeing this idiot?”

You take a moment to gather your thoughts as if you’re not quite sure, yourself. “It’s just nice to be liked,” you say hesitantly.

“I like you!” Jake responds instantly, surprised at your logic. Plenty of people like you. More than you know, in fact.

But you’re shaking your head. “Not like that, Jake. You know what I mean” – he doesn’t – “It’s nice to feel…”

“What?” Jake asks, watching you closely.

“Wanted,” you finally say.

Jake stares at you in awe. There’s no way your dumbass boyfriend wants you the way – well, the way that he does, for instance.

“You know,” you continue, as if Jake isn’t following, “physically. To feel like someone needs to have me. An all-encompassing, mind-altering desire that can’t be helped.”

Jake watches you mutely. He hasn’t given much thought to the kind of desire he feels for you, and he’s not going to pick this moment to start. “That jackass makes you feel this way?” he asks with a cringe.

“I mean, he wants sex.”

Jake brings his hands up to conceal the revulsion on his face. “I swear to god, if you mention your sex life one more time, I’m going to throw myself out your window.”

You laugh. “You’re so dramatic.”

Jake sighs and lays down beside you. There’s got to be a way of conveying just how much he wants you to never see that asswipe again without revealing that he wants to be the one you see instead. “I know it’s not my place,” he says cautiously, apprehensive about riling you again. He turns to face you, not thinking about how all-encompassing, mind-altering, and utterly unparalleled his desire is for you now that he's this close, and says, “But I am begging you, please dump his sorry ass.”

so uh, that was a lot to take in. It was good to follow Mr Puzzles in this episode. Love to see all the fanmade faces featured as well. Overall, a great episode! I'm surprised at how much it got me. Now that we know FOR SURE that WOTFI is coming, we're getting the little bits of clues we have put together. And the title did not lie, Mr Puzzles really did reach his lowest point. I also loved the bit of the channel acknowledging the "i want the old SMG4" fans.

“yn! were going to be late you don't need any more pictures!” your friend shouted as she started walking ahead of you. at the rate you were going you were going to miss the beginning of your brothers show. 

“just a few more just-” you yelped loudly as you felt someone's shoulder hit you. you stumbled, and your camera hit the ground with a clatter. before you could comprehend what was happening a hand was against your shoulder helping you to steady yourself.

“I’m so sorry!” a guy apologized, reaching down to retrieve your camera for you. 

“it’s okay” you replied a little disoriented as you reached out to grab your camera from him. “i should've been looking to where i was going”

“were you taking pictures?” the guy asked.

“Yn!” your friends voice shouted at you as she was now even further away.

your head turned to your friends voice and jack must’ve caught on to your situation because he offered to take some quick photos for you. you posed, and jack snapped away, both of you not saying much.

“my apology,” he said to you as he handed your camera back to you. 

you smiled in response. “thank you. I’m-”

“YN LN! I swear if you're not walking up these stairs!” your friends voice reverberated throughout the staircase. 

“I’ve gotta go! thank you!” your voice was loud as you ran the rest of the way up the stairs to meet your friend. you could hear the unnamed mans laugh echo throughout the staircase. “im jack by the way!” you heard him yell.

“THANKS JACK!” you yelled back as your friend grabbed you by the arm and began pulling you along.

“Stop squirming.”

You scolded him, pressing the cotton pad against his wound.

"It burns."

Ace pouted, hissing as the rubbing alcohol touched the exposed flesh on his arm.

"Should be used to it."

You remarked sarcastically, sighing at his reaction and continuing your medication. Ace clicked his tongue in annoyance, trying to stay as still as possible as you stitched up his deep cut. He kept quiet as he observed you meticulously sewed him up - he loved the little frown that formed on your face whenever you were concentrating, the delicacy of your hands as you twisted the needle and thread so quickly yet so smoothly, making the whole thing almost painless.

This was your thing - Ace would visit your office almost daily. He had discharged Marco from being his doctor and appointed you instead - and since then, you had to deal with Ace always knocking on your door for the slightest of symptoms. Of course, most of the times you also had to deal with the consequences of his recklessness - always ending up taking care of him and the injuries he covered himself in. At one point, you almost doubted he did it on purpose - how could someone so powerful be so clumsy? How could the Fire Fist always end up with a bad injury even when battling the weakest of his opponents?

Yet, there was something so horribly romantic about spending your afternoons taking care of him. What started as a way to distract him from the pain of medical procedures became an excuse to share your deepest secrets. Laying on your medical bed, he told you about his troublesome childhood and of that time Whitebeard saved his life. And so did you - hiding before your surgical mask, you told him of why you chose to become both a doctor and a pirate. Every band-aid on Ace's skin marked a confession, transforming a consult for a runny nose into knowing each other better, your bodies forced to remain only a few millimetres away from one another. It probably wasn't the most ethical of thoughts for a doctor to have, but you couldn't help but stare at the door of your medical office waiting for Ace to burst in, asking you to fix him up.

"All done. You'll feel like new in a day or two."

You smiled, taking off your gloves. Still observing the bandage applied to his shoulder, you made sure everything was tight enough. You hadn't realised how close Ace was until your lifted your face. His eyes were piercing through yours as he bit his bottom lip, your noses almost brushing against each other.

"Y'know what could make me feel better?" Ace whispered, a cunning smirk slowly forming on his lips. Raising your eyebrow in response, a small laugh escaped your lips. Ace was clever, witty, irresistible - and it had you wrapped around his finger. Letting his hand slip on your cheek, he gently pulled you closer to him - finally pressing your lips against yours. A smirk appeared on Ace's lips once again as you urgently reciprocated the kiss, slowly reaching him on the medical bed he was sitting on. His strong arms were quick to wrap around your body, lifting you up and putting your figure over his.

"Oh, I have an idea or two."

10:03pm, alex's bedroom

Inexplicably, the first thought Alex has after his frantic Google search is how lovely Henry’s handwriting is. It’s so smooth and flowy, each letter gracefully connected to the next, the same even spacing between each word, each line steady and straight despite the lack of lines on the scrap of paper. Alex could never, and frankly, it’s unfair—one more thing on the long list of things about Henry that are adorably infuriating—that the ghosting jackass doesn’t need lined paper to guide his hand. 

Alex can’t stop tracing Henry’s note; his fingers trailing lightly over the curve of “D” and tapping the “L” reverently. Objectively, it feels like every other piece of printer paper that Alex has ever picked up, but some part of his brain is convinced that he’ll be able to dig up some faint trace of Henry in the pen’s indentations if he traces the letters just one more time. 

Last week at the lake had been some of the best days of Alex’s life. And up until Henry had ducked below the water to avoid Alex’s confession, he’d been so sure they were on the same page. Henry had matched him email for email, text for text, late night call for late night call. Henry had reached out just as often as Alex over the last few months. They’d both flung their secrets and fears and dreams across the Atlantic; an electronic lifeboat, built line by line and quote by quote. The rare times they were alone together Alex could feel his brain slowing down, his stress melting away— Hell, he could almost see the connection they were building together, stretched tight like a bungee cord between their chests.

With his final note, his polite fucking thank you, Henry had set their lifeboat on fire—and Alex feels like he never learned to swim. He’s practically drowning in his own fucking love for Henry. It’s overwhelming, it’s all-encompassing. It feels like lightning beneath his skin, like one of those party favors that pop open and shoot streamers everywhere. It feels bigger than the Texas sky, deeper than the fucking ocean Henry put between them. It should be like helium, keeping him afloat during all the stress of the campaign and what the future holds for him. Instead, it feels like an anchor around his neck, pulling him into the depths.

It’s infuriating.

Alex clutches at the note again, the vague whisper of a plan swirling in the back of his mind. I wish there weren’t a wall. Who gave Henry the fucking right to say something like that to Alex of all people? The only wall between them is the one Henry laid the foundation for. The only wall is the one Henry’s trying to make as tall as possible by not responding to Alex. The only wall is the one Henry made by leaving in the first place. Alex straightens up, decision made. Henry wants a wall? Fine. 

Alex can be fucking dynamite.

Your head stirs awake after an everlasting dream. Opening you to the in-between of life and death. The afterlife light blends with the hospital room's fluorescent glow. You squint, groaning in fatigue, a stale numbness comatosing your body. “Where am I?” You groan, noticing the shadowy figure through your blurry vision.

“You’re awake,” The figure was surprised, rushing to your aid. They held your hand in a familiar firmness, and you grimace at their touch.

Your head pounding, you finally adjust to your surroundings, making out the person in front of you. Hair slicked back, eyes stern, absent of that smirk that makes your blood boil. He looked concerned, but it wasn’t enough to soothe your anger.

“You-” Lurching forward, you wince at the drip needle yanking at your skin. Johnny lays you back down, trying his best to calm you down.

“Now’s not the time for fighting,” He says, studying your dry lips and sullen eyes. His carelessness brought you here, the image of your spilt blood burning a hole in his mind. It was the first time he ever felt guilty.

“Get the fuck away from me,” You spat, “You’re the reason I’m fucking here. Once I get out, you’re fucking dead meat!”

“I can explain-” Johnny begins, but you’re quick with your tongue.

“After all these years of hating me and me standing up to your bullshit, and this is what I get? You try to kill me? Fucking piece of shit. It’s about time I slit your throat,”

“I didn’t mean to hurt you!” Johnny barked, trying to keep quiet. “Look- you were at the wrong place at the wrong time. I thought you were . . . one of the kids escaping. I wasn’t thinking straight, and I had to get them before they-”

Johnny stopped talking once he saw your stare, that loathing stare he hated to see. You were conflicted by the way he stared at you. He looked hurt, possibly guilty – but it wasn’t enough to convince you. You knew him inside out for the narcissist that he is. If only you knew his suppressed feelings for you, how highly he thinks of you. You are the last person he wants dead in this world, even if it is a means to an end. He made matters worse, concealing it by being mean to you. If he were honest, you wouldn’t be in this mess.

“Let’s get one thing straight, Slaughter. Once I’m back in good health, I will hunt you down like you do those silly little girls. And I will make sure your death is long and painful.” You spat, looking him up and down. “Now, get out before I strangling you.”

not that you ever slept much in the first place, but since joining s.h.i.e.l.d. in their efforts of recovering the tesseract and locating kai's sister who happens to be in possession of it — even worse, kai's sister who aims to take over the planet with it — you've all but given up on proper rest. this mission is far bigger than yourself, far bigger than anyone on your ragtag team of (what you guess you could call) superheroes, for that matter. you may be a trained assassin and a master of close-range combat, but you cannot deny the traces of fear that gnaw at your nerves.

sitting up in your bed, you rub at your eyes until they feel raw. your room is too warm to be comfortable, and all you can think about is the sheer amount of unpredictability that plagues this situation. you're used to set dates, locations, people to eliminate…this situation entails none of those things. no one knows where bahiyyih is, no one knows where the tesseract is, and no one has a goddamn clue what she's planning. your chest tightens for a moment. breathe. breathe.

you strip the covers from your body once your eyes blink back into focus, swinging your legs over the side of the bed. the floor is cool beneath the soles of your feet as you move to stand; the sensation brings you back to yourself, bars your mind from spiraling any further. you need to get out of this room right now. with haste, you slip a pair of slides on and make your way out of your room. the helicarrier is eerily quiet as you walk down the sprawling hallways, the only sounds reaching your ears being the wind rushing by and the rumbling of the aircraft carrier's turbines. dim lights illuminate your path and create ominous shadows along the walls; you pay them little mind — you'd know if someone was following you. your shoes make little noise against the walkway, your featherlight steps a result of your intensive training. your heartbeat slowly returns to normal. 

eventually, the hallway leads to a large room, a lookout platform lying opposite of where you stand. the windows jut out from the floor at an angle, supported by thick, floor-to-ceiling metal beams. you stride over to the platform, staring out at the clouds that rush by; far below, the ocean has opened its gaping maw, the darkness endless yet oddly comforting. 

you're unsure how long you stand there, vision blurred as you stare out at the nothingness, before your ears perk up at the sound of footsteps sounding from behind. they are trying to be quiet, you can tell, but they lack finesse. it causes you to immediately raise your guard. the footsteps slowly grow closer, and your muscles tense in response. they're right behind you now, a hand reaching out to grab your shoulder—

in a flash, you have them twisted the other way, one arm pinned between their shoulder blades and the other clasped in your other hand's unrelenting grip. your foot moves on autopilot as it kicks the back of their knee. their knees collide with the platform with a dull thump! 

“it’s me! it’s me!” the person whispers frantically, their unmistakably male tone bordering on panicked. it’s then that you recognize the platinum blond head of hair, the long limbs, a voice you know all too well…

soobin.

“oh my god, i’m so sorry,” you whisper back while you release his limbs. he stands, rubbing at where your fingers pressed a little too hard into his flesh with a soft “ow.” you level him with a raised eyebrow and downturned lips. “c’mon, it’s your fault. you shouldn’t have tried to sneak up on me.”

“yeah, i guess you’re right,” soobin sighs, rotating his shoulder with a pained wince. “jesus, remind me not to get on your bad side.”

this draws a chuckle from you. “what’re you doing up, anyway? it’s late.” 

“couldn’t sleep, so i decided to get out and patrol,” he simply replies. it’s then that you notice that he’s wearing a simplified, more casual version of his field uniform — a tight black tank top, tactical pants of a similar color and fit, and his normal pair of thick gloves adorning his hands. you realize that you’ve never seen his bare arms before, only ever through his suit. though his build is thin and lithe, you can see the defined muscles that push against the skin of his biceps. the sight causes your mouth to run dry. 

you’re feeling oddly bare in your sleep attire, your arms crossing over your chest. as your eyes meet his again, you find him staring at you, questions dancing his dark eyes. he continues, “y’know, i could ask you the same.”

“same reason as you, but my first thought wasn’t to patrol,” you laugh, refusing to let your eyes wander any more. “you work too hard.”

“ah, it’s nothing— force of habit, really,” he says, heart-shaped lips curving into a sheepish grin.

sure, you might be a little attracted to soobin, but you respect him more than anything. he didn't join this team just to flaunt his homemade tech like yeonjun, he is not here out of obligation like kai — rather, he's on this team because he wants to help people. his unrelenting drive to keep the world safe and lead your team to success is admirable, even if he does butt heads with yeonjun more often than not.

after a brief bout of silence, an idea pops into your head. your eyes trail back up to meet his own. “do you want to go spar, maybe?”

his eyes widen almost imperceptibly before his bunny-like smile returns, a teasing lilt to his following words. 

“as long as you promise to go easy on me.”

after a brief stop at your room so that you could change into more fight-appropriate clothing, you and soobin navigate the hallways to the on-board training center. you have only been here a few times since you arrived on the helicarrier, usually taking out your energy on one of the punching bags that line the perimeter of the mat. it's odd to know that you are about to spar with an actual person; soobin is the only one who has accepted your offer thus far.

the two of you are quick to begin after a bout of stretching. the moment you're done bumping fists in the middle of the ring, his leg swings out from behind him, aiming for your side. you roll out of the way, rising to your feet to his left.

“cheap move,” you grin, closing in while intercepting his fist. you struggle for a moment to hold his arm back; while you prize agility, he favors strength. he mirrors your expression. 

“just evening out the playing field.” his foot slips behind your ankle and pushes forward, but you slip out of the precarious position with ease.

the two of you go at it for awhile, exchanging punches and kicks, wearing each other down slowly — you're more evenly matched than he gave himself credit for. what you throw, he blocks, and when he swings, you easily sidestep out of the way, his limbs cutting through empty air. your stamina seems to trump his, however, his movements growing sloppier, more holes opening up in his defense.

like a machine, you exploit these weaknesses. the next time he throws a kick, you grab his calf and twist, his body rotating in the air before he crashes to the mat. the action knocks the breath from his lungs, and you take the opportunity to straddle his hips, your hands gathering his wrists and pinning them above his head.

“caught you,” you pant, a smirk playing on your lips as you lean over him, noses brushing against each other and mere centimeters separating your lips. it doesn’t take either of you long to realize just how close you are, frozen in place as you stare at each other in silence. 

it's unclear who leans in first, but your lips are suddenly enveloped by his. your grip on his wrists loosens, and he takes the opportunity to wrap large his hands around your waist, pulling you closer to him. you lean down more, deepening the kiss, allowing his tongue to slip into your mouth. you resist the urge to grind down against him, your mind growing foggy with a lack of oxygen when neither of you pull away.

eventually, you are the first to pull away, pressing him back down as he chases your lips. you're back to staring at each other now, but there's something…different in the way he looks back at you — lightly veiled need swirls in his irises. you release a breath against his cheek. his hands do not move from their position on your waist.

soobin breaks the silence, but he doesn’t meet your gaze. “is…this a bad time to admit that i kinda like you?”

though your heart pounds, you try to act as if you’re not on the verge of freaking out. “i wouldn’t say so, no,” you smile, stomach fluttering. “‘cause i kinda like you too.”

leaning up, he kisses you again, slower this time, savoring the sensation of your soft lips against his. you find yourselves smiling into each other's mouths, and you lose yourself in him, ignorant of the way his hands wander down to your hips. suddenly, he rolls you over, turning the tables on you as he pins your hands down.

“rule number one,” he whispers against your lips, pupils blown out as he towers over you. “never let your guard down.”

“and rule number two?” you tease, tone light and breathy.

one side of his lips quirks up. “hm, guess we’ll have to figure that one out together.”

he's back to kissing you soon after, sparring be damned.
