She looked up from her lunch tray. A small smile on her face as Jared sat down in front of her. Evan glanced at the two but continued reading his book. 

“Hey, Jared,” Y/N greeted

“Hey, lovebug, I’ve got a question for you?” Jared replied

“If you need help with your math homework again you can forget it.”

Jared shook his head, “No, no! Well, maybe later. But, that’s not what I’m talking about!”

Y/N rolled her eyes, “What do you need?”

“Well, it’s more of a want than a need.”

“Jared!”

He shook his head, “Sorry, sorry. You know that dance that Alana Beck is planning?”

Y/N glanced at Evan who was now listening to his friends more than reading. 

“Yeah? The winter formal.” Y/N replied, “She can’t stop talking about it.”

“Right! Well, I’m in need of a date!” Jared continued, “ And I was wondering if you would be so gracious as to go with me.”

Y/N’s entire world stopped. No way was Jared Kleinman asking her out, and the more she thought about it she realized there was no way Jared was asking her out seriously. She swallowed the hope that built in her stomach.

“Who’s idea was this?” Y/N asked softly, earning both Evan and Jared’s confusion

“Uh, mine?” Jared replied

“Drop the shit, how much were you paid? Was it Connor?” Y/N demanded, tears welling in their eyes, “Of course it fucking was, there’s no way it wasn’t.”

Y/N slammed her hands on the table and stood. She rushed off, stealing the looks of everyone in the cafeteria. Jared looked at Evan, sadness and confusion lacing his face.

“What did I do?” Jared asked

Evan looked where Y/N had run and sighed, “She’s had like a massive crush on you for years. I think she thought someone paid you to ask her as a joke.”

Alana came over and sat next to the boys, “Is Y/N okay? She looked like she was crying.”

Jared sighed, “She thinks I asked her to the winter formal as a joke.”

Alana smacked his head, “Go get her then! I have not sat through 40 minutes a day of her fawning over you for this to not work out!”

Jared got up and started to walk away before turning to Alana to ask where Y/N would be.

“Library, back corner, huge beanbag chair.” Alana cut him off

He took off in a sprint, ignoring his teacher’s protests. When he got to the library he was given a harsh shush from the librarian. He wandered through the aisles of books, looking for the girl he adored. When he finally did find her, his heart cracked just a little bit. She was curled up with her head to her knees, sniffling softly. 

He sat down on the beanbag, causing her to look up. 

“Hey,” He greeted gently

“Hi,” She whimpered

They sat in a tense silence for a moment. Until Jared broke it. 

“It wasn’t a joke, you know?” He started, “I adore you Y/N I just never really had the guts to say it.”

“You really want to go to the dance with me?” Y/N sniffled

Jared nodded, he took her hand and kissed her knuckles, “I would love nothing more.”

DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THIS FIC?

Okay so I've been looking for a Dear Evan Hansen Treebros fic that was on Wattpad sometime around 2020-2022 and it also doubled as an Alana x Zoe fic (they were a cute side ship) and I'm pretty sure it started out with Evan waking up from a dream he had where the events of the musical happened and he like called Connor to comfort him cos they were best friends. Then the next day, Evan tells Zoe about his dream in their science (I think chemistry) class and she is visibly distract by this idea but gets over it quickly.

I remember the fic being very funny but also very sad and there were a few chapters covering a sleepover all the characters had and Evan (?) dares Jared to eat a bath bomb so Jared takes one of Heidi's bath bombs and takes a bite and says he hates it, then a little later, the kids go to a gas station (maybe 7/11) and Alana--who showed up to the sleepover late because she got a lot of her hair cut off and Zoe was like infatuated) was laughing with Connor over something stupid (might've been a 'good kush' reference) When they got home, they couldn't find where Jared went and when they walked into the kitchen, they found him sitting on top of the fridge eating a bath bomb. (I made fanart of this so I know this happened in /some/ fic at least)

It's also implied that Connor and Evan have been in love and kissed last summer (the summer Evan broke his arm I think) and I remember their romance being very well-put-together

and I also remember that Someone gave Zoe a box of 'Froot Loops' so she would dab instead of shaking hands and/or taking her diploma (She does do this which is sort of my proof that this probably was made shortly after the original musical came out--probably 2017-18)

And I'm pretty sure the fic ended with the characters all hanging out in a bathroom at a college party or smth like that.

The Hardest Part x Ellie’s isolated women, part 2

Time for an Alana take on The Hardest Part! Let’s hope this isn’t too similar to Elizabeth in part 1 LOL--how is it that I love two underappreciated characters who grew up without acceptance (at least in my interpretation), self-isolated, overcompensated to feel like enough despite having disappeared, and are still somehow misread as uncaring cold versus deprived of warmth cold?! These two women are the same in my mind. Thankfully, I have fewer songs in different orders here and I’m trying to pick different lyrics, so that might count for something. Keep reading if you’re interested.

Starting with “Ready to Go” and the entire first verse and chorus fit:

“I’ve lost all the words, feels like my heart’s been tied up/Wait ‘til it hurts, I never can choose/Is it what I deserve/To spend in the last of my love/On someone I knew that I’d always lose?”

*incoherent Ellie screeching*

ALANA HAD SUCH AN IDEALISTIC, OPTIMISTIC WAY OF SEEING PEOPLE AND STAYED. SHE STAYED BECAUSE SHE GENUINELY BELIEVED THE KIDS WHO MISUNDERSTOOD HER COULD CHANGE! And then they didn’t and she realizes that she’s tired of staying. Consider that in this point of her storyline, she knows they’ll leave sooner or later and hasn’t yet decided what to do about it (be the one to leave and at least be isolated on her own terms). This is why I put this song first as opposed to “My Side of the Bed,” which was originally sooner.

“I stay, we’ll burn/’Til you leave first”?! NO THE PROBLEM IS NOT YOU--*wraps Alana in a soft little blanket*

“So go/If you’re ready to go, yeah, make your move, no I won’t follow/It’s inevitable and we both know that we’re on borrowed time”?! OH GOODNESS. She hasn’t found her people and thinks she’s just broken (more on that in the next section).

Continuing with “My Side of the Bed.” Hello to the “I know it’s not you, I believe there’s somethin’ missin’ in me.” That is her. THAT IS HER! She’s started to believe everyone telling her she’s stuck-up and showing off...she maybe thinks what’s missing is being able to keep quiet and not be prideful. Or maybe it’s an effort to connect. BUT SHE IS TRYING AND IT’S NOT HER FAULT THAT, IN THE WORDS OF THE GREAT WILLOW CHANCE, “PLANTS CAN’T TALK BACK.” Maybe what’s missing is just something intrinsically human, and she’s broken for not having it, she’s somehow not real.

“So I put on my coat, the world’s cold and it’s rough/And if you’re gonna make it/You gotta be tough, but I’m not”

WHAT SO SHE DECIDES TO LEAVE AND WORK ON WALLING OFF HER HEART--

SHE’S COLD, SO DESPERATELY COLD! BUT NOT IN THE WAY PEOPLE THINK--

Now we’re at “I Burned LA Down” because that is standard fare for my isolated women playlists. Once again, hello to the entire first verse and chorus (I’ll throw in the first half of the second verse as a treat):

“You left a hole in my chest when you left/And my heart followed you out the door/And I stood and bled in the hall, watched it all/And the mess that it left on the floor/If I gave you less, would you want me more?/And you could have said anything at all”

This is just the initial rejection and her willingness to believe what she’s been told about her being the problem. She questions whether they’d care now that she’s gone and whether she did enough.

“Ooh, embers in the dark/Can look just like shooting stars to a bitter, broken heart/Oh, I wish I hadn’t burned this city down ‘cause you didn’t care/No, you didn’t care/Yeah, I burned LA down and you didn’t care/No, you left me there”

SHE HAD HOPED FOR SO, SO LONG THAT SHE COULD SPEAK MEANINGFULLY AND DEEPLY WITH A FRIEND WHO GETS IT BUT FOUND NOTHING BUT PEOPLE WHO DON’T GET IT AND AREN’T KIND ABOUT IT. Now she’s left tearing her heart down and hoping instead that she can stop feeling so deeply. Same with “I waste my breath on a prayer, you don’t care/I was never a part of the plan.”

Time skip of a few years to the aftermath of The Connor Project (I headcanon that the previous three songs fit into Alana’s storyline when she was about seven, maybe six, but that’s a little less likely), we jump right into “Hardest Part.” She can’t hide from herself any longer after the collapse of such a personally significant project, especially since she uses projects in general to feel meaningful but that this one is her fighting for others the way she wishes she could experience.

“The hardest part of going home/Is facing that you’re getting older/And everything you’ve ever known/Is over, is over/And all the paths are overgrown/The sun is down, it’s getting colder”

Interesting tidbit: I used to sing it as “the sun goes down” instead of “the sun is down” until I realized that the latter was correct. Why, though? Simply put, “the sun goes down” implies an end to the darkness, but the speaker doesn’t seem to see an end in sight and so says “the sun is down.” THIS IS SUCH A HUGE CONTRAST TO “LET THE SUN COME STREAMIN’ IN/’CAUSE YOU’LL REACH UP AND YOU’LL RISE AGAIN/IF YOU ONLY LOOK AROUND/YOU WILL BE FOUND.” NOW THERE IS NO DAWN IN SIGHT AFTER CRACKING THE FALSE LIGHTBULB. The light, at least to an extent, was real, but that’s hard to believe now.

She is now forced to confront that “Through our smiles, we tried to hide it/All the years that we’ve been hurting.”

It’s a painful thing to come to terms with.

She finally makes it through, though, hence the inclusion of “Noah (Stand Still)”:

“And I’m not better, but I’m not quite the same/It keeps coming, so I keep counting the days/And my grandfather told my father, ‘It don’t get easier, just harder/Yes, it will/Remember, just stand still/And when all the hope and joy you feel turns into paranoia, ‘cause it will/Remember, just stand still’ ”

She’s beginning to heal and mend and recognize that she’ll be okay, and since another staple track of the isolated women playlists is “I Just Want a Lover,” she really evens out a lot and understands now that the problem lies with the ones who drive each other into the ground:

“All we do is tear each other down/Trapped inside this permanent staycation/I can’t believe I didn’t see/A mistake is just a state of my identity/And I believed that I would never, ever get it right”

Alana is able to move on now and handle whatever comes next and I love that for her. Completely unrelated, but support Star-Shaped Girls so we can have more content of her brighter world. Goodbye and Ellie out!

Some concepts for a Dear Evan Hansen guardian AU

The idea of this AU is inspired by an Undertale AU named Reapertale, where everyone is a divine being of some sort with a responsibility to uphold (for example, Toriel is the Goddess of Life and Sans and Papyrus are the Gods of Death).

Basically, there’s various “Guardians” that keep up the maintenance of the world. They mostly live in a world above the clouds as human-like beings (that usually have wings or other appendages), but they can take the form of a human or an animal to explore the world below without detection. Some of them even have jobs and lives down there in order to make it easier to do their jobs. They’re also immortal unless killed, or until they have a successor that they’re training up.

Guardians have two main jobs: Maintain balance and grant wishes from specific individuals (as long as the latter doesn’t clash with the former). They also sometimes have a special kind of animal that they can communicate with and can transform into, which are also honored by their followers down below.

Some characters include:

Evan Hansen: One of the Guardians of the Wild. These guardians are assigned areas of forest to protect and overwatch. They spend a lot of time down below to get to know their area. In his Guardian form, he has tawny wings and a lionlike tail that trails behind him (it betrays his emotions, much to his embarrassment). He, like every other teenage character, is still in training. His animal is a red squirrel.

Heidi Hansen: A Guardian of Healing. Her job includes healing other Guardians, maintaining supplies, and answering pleas for help from the loved ones of those suffering. All her interventions of the latter variety have to go through another Guardian for approval. Healers can also sometimes substitute for Guardians of Life, which help create new mortal beings and Guardians. Her specialty is in physical healing as opposed to healing mental anguish, so she finds a different Healer to help Evan (Dr Sherman). Heidi’s animal is a rabbit.

Connor Murphy: A (rare) Guardian of Death. He hates his job, and would much prefer being a Guardian of the Arts like his sister, but he’s stuck with it. He also has wings, but they’re more batl/dragon like. In the human world, he has the unique ability to slink through shadows undetected. He also has a demonic form barely anybody has seen. Contrary to popular belief, he doesn’t actually kill; he just comes to collect the lives of those who are already dead or dying in order to end their suffering. He also has a scythe to help yank the lives out of others. His animal is the crow, while his mentor’s are vultures.

Zoe Murphy: A Guardian of Music, which falls under the category of being a Guardian of the Arts. She can sing and she’s also learning a myriad of instruments. Her specialty is in jazz, and other unscripted music. She also has various other powers that she can access via performing music, much like bards in The Owl House. Zoe’s animal is a nightingale, but she has limited communicative abilities with other songbirds too.

Jared Kleinman: A Guardian of Technology, under the category of Knowledge Guardians (which does give him a minor superiority complex). He can focus on a particular object or piece of code and instantly visualise the entire schematic as well as what exactly is wrong with it, which makes things a billion times easier to fix the problem in question. These abilities include a sort of x-ray vision and many magical tools he can use to get up to trouble if he feels like it. It’s kinda hard to explain lol sorry. Many of the times when he’s been sent down on training missions, he just ends up with issues that can be fixed by turning the device in question on and off (which irritates him a little). His animals are ants, which he can order around very easily to help him out.

Alana Beck: A Guardian of Balance. These are the Guardians in charge of restricting the magic used by the other Guardians. They have to grant or deny permission to grant wishes from humans, as well as to make major changes in the world. She has confidence that she can convince the older, more established Guardians to loosen up a bit to help end suffering on Earth when she completes her training, and she also spends a bit of her training with every Guardian to understand exactly what they all do. These Guardians are also the police of the Guardian world. Alana has insect wings to help her with this. Her animal is a grey wolf, an apex predator vital to how the lands they roam function (just look up how wolves affect rivers. I’m not joking).

Cynthia Murphy: A Guardian of the Guardians. This title means that she contributes to keeping up the way of life within the Guardian realm itself. Her job within this Guardianship is to watch the younger Guardians before they get to school (they attend school until they get their assignments). Her animal is a deer, but she doesn’t go down to the human world very often.

Larry Murphy: A Guardian of Justice. These guys are the judges of the Guardian world, in charge of issuing punishments and reform opportunities to wrongdoers. His animal is a hawk.
