Fewer Days That Suck: Real Talk About Stress, Mindset, and Getting Out of Your Own Way
In Episode 157 of the No Sitting on the Sideline Dad podcast, host Joe Foley sits down with author and mindset coach Deborah Mallow to talk about something we all face—but rarely slow down to deal with: burnout, negative thought patterns, and parenting under pressure.
Deborah shares her journey from being a top sales rep on the edge of burnout to creating a simple, effective framework for living with more intention and less overwhelm. Her book, Six Steps to Fewer Days That Suck, isn’t your typical self-help read—it’s packed with short reflections, mantras, and actionable steps that helped her—and now others—retrain their mindset and take back control of their days.
This conversation is a raw, honest, and hopeful look at how small changes can have a big impact—especially when stress starts to bleed into parenting and everyday life.
Topics covered in this episode:
What burnout looks like and how it sneaks up on high-performers
Understanding negativity bias and how to break it
The connection between adult stress and a child’s self-esteem
Learning how to pause before reacting in the heat of the moment
Practical ways to build better mental habits (without adding pressure)
The power of self-kindness, daily rituals, and meaningful affirmations
How to raise resilient kids by modeling resilience ourselves
One of Deborah’s key takeaways: “Nothing is going to change… unless I change.”
Listeners can learn more about Deborah’s work—and grab her free downloadable worksheets on happiness and motivation—by visiting TheDailyDecisions.com/inspire. Her book is also available on Amazon in ebook, paperback, and hardcover.

How would BEN react if their s/o's love language is physical touch and can't help but touch them? (not in an inappropriate way)
also can we gave them a big smooch?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They would only be able to tolerate this for so long. If BEN really cares, it'll "fix" this habit of yours. If it doesn't care then, you're cooked!

before they started getting closer to kris and susie, noelle and berdly were each other's only friend. noelle was very asocial when she was younger (and possibly still is asocial). so she didn't have a lot of friends. berdly was just annoying. they're pretty much loners who hung out since nobody else would hang out with them. (they still are that kind of)

Description: These mollusks are best described as sea slugs that evolution saw fit to give them a fish-like morphology. Their horns (actually vestigial shells) are used to subdue prey in conjunction with glowing dorsal bumps--a biological version of naval mines that can be ejected at will. Like mechanical mines, they are triggered by the slightest amount of tactile contact. As the wings of young specimens are too small for flight, they attach themselves to rocks on the sea floor and ingest algae for sustenance. Only when they develop a horn and wings after a year or so do they they finally take to the sky. And despite being frail, they exhibit exceptional regenerative abilities. Even if both wings are lost, they can eventually be repaired, given enough time.

I just received my Frog Fact calendar from @sarahmackattack, founder of the Skype A Scientist outreach program and pilot of The Squidmobile (which I had the honor of seeing in person like a year ago and i still remember that day fondly.)
The calendar is here just in time to make September a month of amphibious education! Also, can I just say it's so much bigger and prettier and glossier than I expected it to be? I'm going to keep this hanging up even after I'm done revealing my frog facts.
I also got myself a Squid Fact Hotline sticker to put on my own car so I too can drive a Squidmobile. Squidmobile Jr, if you will.
And theres other goodies available too! If you like frogs (or crabs, or squids or funding public access to science education) please consider supporting the program by buying yourself a fun treat from her shop!

The Race Against Time: AI Takeover, Climate Crisis, and the Fight for Human Cooperation
In this powerful episode of No Sitting on the Sideline Dad, Joe sits down with David C., an engineer, author, and big-picture thinker who’s spent decades studying the trends that could shape (or endanger) our future. David doesn't just warn us about climate change — he connects the dots between three mega threats: climate crisis, unregulated AI, and our growing human division.
Joe and David dive into real talk about:
Are we sleepwalking into disaster while waiting for technology to save us?
How microplastics are invading not just oceans, but our bodies.
Can we trust AI in medicine, law, and society — or is it already outrunning us?
The scary pace of rising sea levels and what cities like Miami and Jakarta are doing to survive.
How everyday families and parents (yes, like you and me!) can actually make a difference.
With stories from Maine’s lobster fishermen to Europe’s AI regulations, this episode pulls no punches but leaves you with hope — and actions you can take today.
Joe and David ask the hard questions:
Are we prepared to protect our kids from a future run by machines and scorched by rising temperatures?
Stay tuned until the end for David’s list of practical actions parents and families can do right now to fight back against these mega-trends.
What You’ll Learn in This Episode: ✅ Why climate change is more than just a "trend" — and how overlapping natural cycles are being accelerated by human actions. ✅ How AI could slip from helper to ruler if left unregulated. ✅ Why human cooperation (or lack of it) is just as dangerous as climate change or AI run wild. ✅ Practical, everyday actions you can take as a parent, community member, and citizen. ✅ How to challenge your elected officials about AI and climate policies (without needing to be an expert).
Guest Spotlight: David C., author of The Entity series, engineer, and passionate advocate for proactive solutions to humanity’s biggest threats. David’s sci-fi series isn’t just fiction — it’s a chilling roadmap of what could happen if we stay divided and complacent. Learn more about his books and mission at: www.theentity.us

"Have you seen a paint set anywhere?" Clary was stopping a few people at a time in the park, not understanding where she could have lost them. Someone having seen them was a long shot at best, but she was getting desperate. "It's just that they were a gift from my mom and...she's not around anymore..." They were her special to her, so special in fact, that she only got them out for special occasions. She wasn't about to get into it with strangers, but hopefully they would understand what she was insinuating. "sorry to bother you...I just don't know what else to do...."
