What makes a Meaningful Professional Development Experience
Professional development (PD) is essential for fostering growth, enhancing skills, and improving workplace outcomes. However, not all PD experiences are created equal. The difference between a mediocre session and one that profoundly impacts participants lies in its design, delivery, and alignment with real-world needs. Below is an analysis of the core components that make professional…

Venting here but it's been deeply frustrating since the treaty principles bill came out to see just how wilfully misinformed a lot of people are. I mean, I expected it of the right, have all my life, and I /know/ a lot wasn't taught in schools, but you know what? Most NZ schools don't teach you deep leninism or about the electoral college, and yet I keep running into kiwi commies who can explain roe v Wade back to front but not who Hone Heke was.
This one time, it's become a social media trend, and I certainly appreciate it right now, but will it stick around when this is no longer a hot button issue? Will people examine the racism running deeply through this country beyond tiktok history rundowns and taking selfies with their meme signs?
Kiwis are so proud of our history of resistance and how good "we" have been to our indigenous people. "We" ensured the language stayed alive. "We" ensured Maori had land rights. But Te Piringa at the office never /complained/ about how we say her name, so we don't /really/ need to learn. And oh, this brown boy is so well /spoken/, using big words like "egregious"!
This refusal to confront uncomfortable truths is partly what allowed David Seymour and the rest of the coalition to stir up so much misinformation and hate. Too many new Zealanders don't know enough basic national history to immediately refute what Seymour is saying because they've spent their lives comfortable not knowing, and now they're playing catch up.
I'm praying people catch up and /keep learning after that/. After Maori politics, and the whole Maori /world/ stops being a trend. Even if something else happens in america that makes pakeha feel less uncomfortable to learn about because NZ looks great by comparison.
Anyway. Peace and love peace and love. Thanks for reading my rant. Check out Te Ara dot com.
#to clarify i am not trying to tell peolle to fuck off#or calling anyone specific a poser#I'm sure everyone reading this post has educated themselves well and continues to do so#it's just infuriating having experienced so much from ignorant nz “progressives”#seeing so many people suddenly being so interested in maori stuff now that there's social brownie points up for grabs#also don't fucking tell me there's no resources to learn this shir#Te Ara is free#multiple other websites are free#entire mockumentaries are available online for free#most of the most major nz history things are on wikipedia. for free.

why’d u leave out the steep rise in antisemitism in america
Honestly I was just venting. I didn’t expect my post to get as big as it did. I only have like…100 followers so this attention is really unexpected. This is only the second week Trump has been in office for his second term and so much change has been circulating. It’s impossible for me to include everything as my head has been swimming with whiplash after whiplash. I needed a place to let out all my frustration and anxieties.
But this is a good moment to talk about it. The steep rise in antisemitism has been steadily increasing since 2016 during Trump’s first presidential semester. I’ve seen it clear as day, as if a switch was flipped. People have move from whispering about it inside their homes in fear for being shamed, to speaking out loud in public. All because an old white man decided to open his big fat mouth. This isn’t to say there wasn’t antisemitism before 2016, because there was, I have just seen it become more and more obvious as people began to grow more bold. It’s awful and disgusting and super frustrating to see this country move backwards. Especially after our ancestors worked so hard to get it to where it use to be. People have gotten too comfortable insulting others for things that do not do any harm.
Now in the year of 2025, more billionaires have become involved. Elon Musk is an entirely different story. To have blatantly use the Nazi salute as he did, not once, but twice, is a clear message to others that they can do this horrendous act without being properly punished. I’ve seen some people get fired from jobs, and others be bullied for doing this salute online, but it will never be enough because millions of people died because of Hilter and Nazis. And now, millions of people are likely to be killed because of this once again.
#please forgive any ignorance I might have#I’m still continuing to learn and educate myself#this is a very important topic and I agree we should talk about it more#my head is just spinning from the continuous information being given to me#us politics#american politics#politics

A vital part of political knowledge (and knowledge in general) is knowing when to say, "I'm not educated enough to make a statement about this topic."
It's okay if you don't know every little detail of every single issue at hand. But it won't help if you refuse to acknowledge where you lack information, where your blindspots are, and what you just don't understand. It's okay to not have an answer.
#politics#saying you aren't educated about a topic isn't shameful; it's a sign that you have self-awareness of your knowledge#that's a GOOD thing#this is different than willfully refusing to just not learn anything about the world and even then... i don't know if it's right...#...to force people into having An Opinion#having An Opinion is step one. the knowledge gained about topics should lead to the formation of An Opinion#but if you force people to have An Opinion with no knowledge about what they have An Opinion about... that's when it gets alarming#it's okay to not know things. it's okay to not understand certain topics...#...you can let people who actually know whatever topic to lead those conversations...#...and it's likely that YOU have knowledge and opinions that others don't have the knowledge to comment upon#that's how the world kind of works; it ought to be a collaborative effort and a continuous process

Absolutely both love this and am not surprised by this. I think it’s great Ryan Leonard is this committed to his education, and there’s been so many interviews where he’s hinted that he’s invested in his education, so it’s nice to have confirmation he’s still working towards a college degree!
EDIT: and now with an article!
#ryan leonard#in a week where everyone was making such a big deal about him leaving college and how amazing everything has been I love that this showed u#we stan commitment to learning#and as an educator myself you don’t know how important this is for kids to see someone “famous” choosing to continue to pursue education

"A coloring game inspired by postmodern artist Sol LeWitt."
I was browsing Blick Art Supply's art lesson ideas for projects I might want to do, and as soon as I read this one, I knew I had to share it on Tumblr.
I think we should all do this and post our results. It looks like a really fun game.
I also think it would be a fun game to play with a group of friends in person. With friends, you can also make up your own sets of instructions in addition to or instead of the ones I have here.
You do it on a gridded circle, or on graph paper. If using graph paper, do squares wherever it says "ring."
Preparation (altered slightly by me from Blick original for use on Tumblr rather than in classroom. The link takes you to the original)
start with a gridded circle or graph paper (or draw your own gridded circle on blank paper)
2. Gather a bunch of colored pencils, markers, highlighters, crayons, etc. Some of the spaces are small and some are large, so gather lots of tip types/thicknesses
3. Remember: 1) There are no winners and no losers. 2) There is no "wrong" way to interpret given instructions. 3) You are encouraged to think "outside the box." Try to think of a unique way to complete an instruction that probably won't be the same way everyone else is doing it.
Use the set of instructions below. I've provided the one from Blick, as well as one other I found with a web search.
Post your result so we can all compare.
I don't know if it would be best to put our results as reblogs, or use a hashtag so the post doesn't get too long and we can all see each others even in different reblog chains. Maybe both?
Blick Instructions 1) Color one ring gold. 2) Color one half ring blue. 3) Color one half ring orange. 4) Make a black and white checkerboard on one section. 5) Make a striped ring. 6) Make a fat ring. 7) Make a skinny ring. 8) Make zebra stripes in one section. 9) Color a quarter ring with a dark color. 10) Color a quarter ring with a light color. 11) Color a pink piece that looks like a slice of pizza. 12) Make a section that is blue and green striped. 13) Make a section that is red and yellow striped. 14) Outline a section with black. 15) Outline a section with red. 16) Outline a section with green. 17) Make another checkerboard section. 18) Make another zebra striped section.
Another set of Instructions 1. Color one ring purple. 2. Color one half ring blue. 3. Color one half ring orange. 4. Make a black and white checkerboard on one section. 5. Make a striped ring. 6. Make a thick ring. 7. Make a thin ring. 8. Make zebra stripes in one section. 9. Color a quarter ring with a dark color. 10. Color a quarter ring with a light color. 11. Color a pink piece that looks like a slice of pizza. 12. Make a section that is blue and green striped. 13. Make a section that is red and yellow striped. 14. Outline a section with black. 15. Outline a section with red. 16. Outline a section with green. 17. Make another checkerboard section. 18. Make another zebra striped section.

this isn’t in specific to anyone on here but I honestly find it very sad and disheartening that male idols are able to get away with so many things/such weird and disgusting behaviors simply because fans brush their favs actions under the rug and refuse to acknowledge when they are in the wrong. kpop should not be put over morals or basic decency.
#it just whole heartedly puts me off#and even if you aren’t well educated in the situation you should be asking questions#and making yourself learn about it#not keeping quiet because they’re your fav and you love them…#women idols will be dragged through the mud and back because they do something simple like supporting feminism#but y’all can’t speak out about your fav watching/reading an anime/manga that depicts t*rtureing children ?#and this isn’t to one fandom in specific it’s to all the fandoms that have continuously swept their male idols flaws under the rug#it just seriously makes me :/#chit chat with coco <3#important ‼️#kpop

If I had to choose between cutting off my hand and redoing grad school apps, I'd seriously consider the hand. Be gentle with yourself, it's a fucking slog. What kind of program are you looking into?
Thank you for the reminder to be gentle. This shit has been stressful, and having for various reasons only about a month and a half to actually do focused work on applying has SUCKED. Not looking forward to potentially having to do this again in the future (it's complicated but I'll explain why in a sec), but I am SO looking forward to two weeks from now when these applications are in and it's out of my hands, as much as the waiting game itself sucks in its own way.
As for programs, I don't want to get too specific. I was a double major in undergrad, and I'm not exaggerating when I say I've literally never met anyone else with those two specific majors. (Ftr one is a STEM field and the other in the humanities.) I want to keep studying both in some capacity in the future, but to make a long story short I'm stuck in a position where I have to hold off on applying to the program in the humanities for now.
As annoyed as I am about the 'long story' part of that, I'm totally fine with prioritizing the program in STEM for now. Hell, in some ways that's a good thing given the limited amount of time I have to work on applications. But at the same time, I've greatly limited the number of schools I'm applying to so I can focus on creating well-tailored applications for their specific programs and faculty, and that means each potential rejection would leave me with a far smaller share of options. It's a bit of a risk, but damn it I'm trying my best to show how strong of a student I've been and that I would work well with their specific people. Hopefully things work out in the end.
I hope your own efforts have paid off too, wherever life has taken you.
#it's hitting me now too how badly my undergrad school prepared me for this process#besides a couple of conversations with professors about grad school and jokes about selling your soul to unethical corporations-#- we didn't get told SHIT#i've said it before and i'll say it again but do not go to a rich kid school if you are not a rich kid (this is coming from a non-rich kid)#or at the very least be prepared for people to assume you know the ins and outs of networking and stuff you've never been taught about#i'm not joking when i say the school i went to brags about how many students get job placements soon after graduation#but has next to no actual resources to help students continue their education (esp for minority students) (like myself)#it's so frustrating seeing peers of mine get cushy jobs based on who they know when i'm out here busting my ass bc idk the right people#and god forbid you want to learn more but don't have similar connections in academia! it sucks!#i know my applications' success heavily relies upon letters i'm not allowed to read written for me by professors who can vouch for me#because their names might mean something to someone who might otherwise disregard me despite how ridiculously experienced i am#knowing you're good enough but might get rejected for something that goes beyond you has to be one of the worst feelings#i already have the sneaking suspicion that i won't get accepted to one of my top three schools based on that#and i haven't even submitted my app for them yet#there's so much i hate about higher ed but dammit i still want to learn. that might be the worst part of it all.#i want to keep learning but at the end of the day it's not about what i want. it's what an institution wants FOR me.#but that will not stop me from trying or from fighting for what i want. at least i have that.#anyway sorry for the long-ass ramble and for the delay but hopefully that answers your question sufficiently enough#and hopefully what i've said is useful to someone somewhere who might be in a weird spot like this#ask#answered#anon
