Realizing that I went and wrote a bunch of intentionally aro relationships and my partner was like, "Idk, it seemed like normal relationships to me," and I was like, "I mean yeah it's not that different from ours, I guess, I was kind of going for 45° off from 'normal' romance," and they're like, "Okay, but ours is also pretty much like that," and I'm like, "Yeah, true," and now I'm like, damn hold up, are we both some kinda arospec and THIS is how we figure it out? Because I wrote a long-ass fic about intentionally queer-coded (among other things) robots? Life is weird, man.

Like I've been prone to extreme long-term crushes on a very few (mostly unattainable) people over the years, but I wouldn't have known what to do with them even if they worked out, and cough my ex was not even one of them. I just kind of assumed I was failing to feel a thing I was totally supposed to feel, there, and quite a lot of that relationship emotionally was me going, "Okay, I care like This, but I think I'm supposed to care like That? I'm pretty sure he cares That way. I'm not sure I do, but I mean, there's really only one way*, so maybe I'm just misreading this and actually I do care like That, I'm just bad at it."

*This was me being very incorrect, it turns out. There's all kinds of ways to love someone. It's a very inadequate and nonspecific word.

When I confessed my feelings (which I'd been sitting on for a year) to my partner, their reaction wasn't to be particularly romantic about it. In fact they told me they'd help me move to California if I wanted to. And after I got over my initial confusion of being kissed on the forehead (which is also not super romantic as a gesture and I couldn't decide how to even read that so I kinda skipped over even trying for a while), I was thinking, Awesome, that is a yes. They have promised to assist me with difficult stuff, and said nothing at all about emotions, because that's not a big deal anyway. The important thing is that I can rely on them and vice versa. Cool. We are basically together forever now. Which ended up being true. I just never moved out and now it's like 13 years later, go figure. But that's not what I think actually passes for reciprocating feelings for most people? Worked great for me though.

Anyway I feel like I have accidentally learned something about myself, lol. I guess romance is okay I guess, like it's not repulsive, but seriously, it's WAY more satisfying to me to guess someone else's Quiplash answer because you know they know you would think it's fucking funny, and you do, and because you think it's funny and you're well aware they know your type of humor and you know theirs and that you wouldn't expect them to use "cum" as an answer because that's not usually how they roll, so of course that is the only answer they can possibly give, which is instantly evident to both of you with no conversation whatsoever on the topic. When you got just one brain cell and it's quantum entangled with their just one brain cell so you have a lot of null discussions where nobody has to say anything but it's fully understood anyway, that's The Dream, if you ask me. And like I don't really think that's romantic by the usual definition. You can have that with friends and family, too. But that is what it turns out I prioritize in relationships, which I'm starting to feel like isn't what the majority of people are here for?

I've been peeking at TI-83 Plus documentation in preparation for potentially porting i68soyuz (i80soyuz?) to it, and wowwwwwwww is it foreign. Like I knew there were gonna be differences--they're based on completely different processors,* for god's sake--but man they are different different.

The OSes have nothing in common. The SDKs have nothing in common (I'm having a hard time even finding a C compiler for the TI-83 Plus). The execution models have nothing in common. The privilege controls have nothing in common. The documentations have nothing in common. I'm only barely exaggerating.

This won't be like porting from, say, Windows x64 to Windows ARM, or Windows to Mac. It's more like porting from MS-DOS to N64, except that both MS-DOS and the N64 have easily available C compilers. It's gonna be a lot of work to port even this meager of a codebase.

*The TI-92s, TI-89s and Voyage 200 use Motorola 68000 family CPUs. Every other graphing calculator with a model number starting with TI-8x or TI-7x† use Zilog Z80 family CPUs‡. (Oh, and besides a few twenty year old engineering samples, the TI-Nspires all use ARM9s.) †Not the TI-74 and TI-78, they aren't graphing calculators. They're ...different. TI loves to assign model numbers in weird orders. Oh, and they're based on the TMS7000 microcomputer, which is some in-house shit neither you nor I have ever heard of. What seems at first to be a choker of delicate silver wires; while it can be worn decoratively, it is actually meant to be an implant, connecting directly to the nervous system. It serves as a coprocessor, designed to help regulate the host's own emotional state and to help analyze the body language and other social cues of those around one to provide a better understanding of their mental states. It was, once, extremely in vogue to have several of these implanted, and stories are yet told of those who would spend entire days at a time engaging in obnoxiously compelling debates as a result.

"This is your present," Bea whispered, and she shoved V inside.

The three members of Tinnitus were sitting around a hookah rig. Dum Dum slammed the door behind Bea and V and sat down next to them. He took a hit and handed another mouthpiece to Bea and V, they both shook their heads.

"Sit the fuck down already," Dum Dum said. Bea and V sat on two ottomans on the other side of the coffee table.

"Guy that saved my life I told you about," Dum Dum said, pointing to V, "and his Maelstrom stripper output."

"Not Maelstrom. Just a cybermod," Bea quickly corrected.

"We've got an empty gogo dancer cage with your name on it if you ever change your mind," Dum Dum said. "You got five questions. Ask 'em."

V was stunned. He'd been to their shows before but Totentanz was usually so packed and he was either too fucked up or too busy getting fucked in the bathroom to ever find a chance to talk to them.

They sat there, expressionless. Expressionless because giant red lights replaced the upper half of their faces. The member on the far left had one eye, the one in the middle had two, and the third member had three eyes.

"Uh okay, shit," V squirmed in his seat. "Zombie Stripper is my favorite album. What analogue synthesizer did you use? A Moog? Roland?"

The three members answered at the same time. They all had modulated voices at different pitches creating a harmonic resonance when they spoke, "Proprietary."

"Cool, cool. I get it," V rubbed his sweaty palms on his pant legs.

"Four questions," Dum Dum said and exhaled a huge white cloud. Bea crossed her legs and folded her hands over her knees.

"Do any of you have synthesizer coprocessors or is it all external through computers?"

They answered in unison again, "Proprietary."

V nodded enthusiastically, "Awesome." V looked at Bea and she smiled, satisfied with herself. "You did the soundtrack for Zombie Joytoy 6. How did you make the screams on the song "Lilibeth's Return"? The harmonizing was insane, I can't imagine they were all organic."

"Proprietary."

"Two left," Dum Dum said.

"Right, of course. Totally," V chuckled awkwardly. "Your industry secrets are safe with me, I promise!"

Bea covered her face with her hand and debated taking Dum Dum up on his offer of a hit of hash.

V leaned forward, resting his elbows on his legs and lowered his voice, "How would you like a copy of the entire Arasaka soundfont library?"

Bea looked at V, Dum Dum put down the hookah, the three members of Tinnitus leaned forward and steepled their fingers at the same time.

For the next half hour V told them all about diving into Bea's brain, fighting the Doberman construct and what he's been doing with the software since. They exchanged contact info and V flicked them a sample file with a basic example of the dog, how to program its display behaviors and add a bark.

When they were back at the main floor Bea and V sat down at the bar. "Do you really have Arasaka's soundfont?" she asked.

"More or less. I uploaded the decompiled software a couple months after," V waved his hand, "you know, all that, onto the BBS."

"V," Bea scolded. That was dangerous, it was shit that almost killed her who knows what would happen if anyone else got their hands on it.

"Relax. Anyway, bunch of chairjocks and music majors at the university have been scouring through old Arasaka software archives. Turns out the sig on the barks and growls was the last piece they needed to refine their search query. The soundfont is about 99% complete," V ordered them two shots of tequila.

Bea used their firing as cover to look for other bodies or weapons. She didn't see any, but she did see two Tygers descending across the dance floor. V ran out of ammo and ducked back down when Bea did. She looked at him, grabbed his face and kissed him, leaving a bloody smear across his lips. She leaped over the barrier and charged at them. They both switched to katanas. Bea jumped up and punched one in the face, grabbed him by the jacket collar and spun him around just as his buddy's katana was coming down. It sliced through his friend but didn't quite miss Bea. It cut through her bustier and it snapped open, exposing her chest and left a neat, shallow straight line from her chest to her belly button. She pulled back and kicked the dead guy in his lower back while the other tried to get his katana out of him sending them both to the floor. Bea grabbed the dead guy's katana off the floor.

Bea turned and was facing V. He first saw the line down her torso but it wasn't bad, he then saw her tits out on full display. V got…excited. He thought he shouldn't, but maybe her bloodlust was rubbing off on him. She grabbed the katana with both hands on the handle, held it over her head with the tip of the blade pointing down, and thrust it through both bodies sending blood spurting up and covering her bare chest and chin. She sneered and twisted it, sending another spurt up onto her arms as she drove it deep through them.

Bea looked down at herself and took off her jacket to take the ruined bustier off. The red spotlights danced across her skin and made the blood and sweat glitter. He wanted to spend the rest of his fucking life with her. She looked at him and winked, tossed the bustier aside, put her jacket back on and looked up to see how many Tyger Claws were left. Maelstrom had arrived. Bea plucked the katana out and grabbed the SMGs the two goons dropped and walked — no, she strutted. She swayed her hips, never looking away from V. Bea stood over him. His heart fluttered and he couldn't tell if he was hornier seeing the blood dripping off her nipples or more nervous for what he was about to do. He got on one knee, "Hey, will you marry me?" he yelled.

Bea looked horrified and amused. Well, that wasn't a bad reaction, right?

"What the fuck did you say?" she shouted back.

"I said," the music turned off just as V finished speaking, "Will you marry me?" he shouted and it echoed across the room.

Bea stood there, stunned, speechless. "Are you fucking kidding me? Right now?"

"Uh, I don't see a rabbi around so, like not right now, later."

Bea put her hand over her face and pulled it down, leaving a bloody handprint across her face which made V only love and want to fuck her more.

"Well?" Dum Dum asked. Bea looked at him, he pulled a hand up out of the carnage from a Tyger Claw and pried a gold band off of it. He tossed it to V. Bea looked on in curious horror as it flew through the air, glittering in the light. V caught it. Because of course he did.

He grabbed Bea's hand and held it in his, he held the ring between his thumb and forefinger.

Bea scrunched her eyes shut, "What are you doing?"

The Tinnitus trio spoke in unison, "Well?"

Dum Dum stepped onto the stage and held his pistol to Bea's temple. She looked at him out of the corner of her eye and V looked very worried for a moment before Dum Dum said, "If you don't say yes I'm gonna fuckin' kill you."

V grinned. Bea held her right hand out and V placed the ring on her ring finger on top of the band he got her for Hanukkah. Tinnitus clapped and Dum Dum lowered his weapon. V stayed kneeling and put his arms around her waist, kissing her bloody stomach.

"Get the fuck out, cleaning this up is gonna take forever," Dum Dum said.

V stood up, and they turned to leave. Dum Dum grabbed Bea's hand, "I ain't sayin' I owe you shit," he lowered his voice and whispered in Bea's ear, "but I better get a fuckin' invite."

under cover of defection, cross "leaked" select classified intel to barghest and disappeared. official militech channels had branded their loyal soldier as a rogue operative and enemy of the state. in reality, this was a sanctioned false flag operation. cross eventually resurfaced in dogtown with the help of various connections, seeking to assume the role of leadership. some of barghest's best were former allies, rivals and operatives who had fought beside him in past campaigns. so, it was no surprise when his reputation and leadership capabilities earned him the title of hansen's successor.

CURRENT STATUS: cross now serves as the official mayor of dogtown, and news has hit the outside world. he is considered a dangerous defector. within his circles, he is a powerful and respected leader, feared more than he will ever be loved, but followed without question.

the nusa presence has been removed from the area, and barghest has completely reformed. in most situations, they are not aggressive to those who approach, including the mercenary who assisted in the removal of kurt hansen and the nusa presence that followed. however, this is not to be mistaken as weakness. militech’s influence in the district continues to grow, and many believe cross remains their embedded asset, biding his time until the final phase of their plan unfolds.

More Speed, More Power, Pretty Pictures

I added some crude functions to the ROM monitor on my Wrap030 project to read the root directory of a FAT16-fomatted disk and load binary files into memory to execute. This opens up a new option for developing programs and running them on the computer, and makes it easier to keep programs on-hand for loading when I demonstrate the computer.

So what new program do I build first for running from disk? The same Mandelbrot renderer I've been using all along, of course! All I needed to do to get it running from disk was adjust a few load instructions to use PC-relative addressing and then change the vasm output to raw binary.

It ran without issue ... mostly. I had been noticing some instability with the system in general. It's not really related to the programming work I've been doing, it just tended to show itself more when doing the kind of FPU-intensive processing required for the Mandelbrot program. Sometimes the system wouldn't boot at all, sometimes it would continually reset. Other times it would run fine for a while, but randomly throw a coprocessor protocol exception (especially when using double- or extended-precision floating point values).

I had a pretty good idea of where this instability was coming from ...

As someone on Discord put it, that's a pretty little antenna I've got there.

High speed computers don't like excessively-long wiring between components. I made the ribbon cables long because there were other boards I developed for this system. But, I'm only using the CPU board, the FPU + IDE mezzanine board, and the video generator board. All that extra wire is just making things more difficult.

A year ago, when I first put these three boards together, I had to bump the bus speed down to 25MHz to get it to run. I could run the CPU board up to 56MHz by itself, and I could get it to run with one expansion board or the other up to 40MHz, but with all three boards, 25MHz was the best I could do (out of the oscillators I had on hand). I have some 33MHz oscillators now, and while I could get it to run sometimes, it was obviously far more unstable.

It was time to trim those pretty little antennas.

I left room for one more card, in case I can get my DRAM card working later, but trimmed a few inches off. The result? Rock solid at 25MHz now.

... and at 32MHz.

... but 40MHz still doesn't run.

I am quite pleased with that result. My target for this system in the beginning was 25MHz. That extra 30% speed increase is very noticeable, especially when running a program like the Mandelbrot renderer.

But I had a thought.

My FPU is rated for 25MHz, and here it's running solid at 32MHz along with the rest of the system. But my FPU board was designed to support the FPU running at a separate clock speed from the rest of the system (the 68881/68882 FPU is actually designed to support this, so I implemented it when I built my mezzanine board).

What would happen if I tried running the FPU even faster? Perhaps using that 40MHz oscillator that I couldn't use for the complete system?

Surprisingly, not a problem running the CPU at 32MHz and the FPU at 40MHz.

... or 50MHz

... or 55MHz

... or 67MHz!

Once again, I've run out of faster oscillators. This computer is running stable with its FPU clocked at over two and a half times its rated speed.

The video above is a real-time capture of the VGA output of this machine running that Mandelbrot renderer (now modified to use 96-bit extended-precision floating-point arithmetic!) with the CPU & main bus clocked at 32MHz and the FPU clocked at 67MHz. Some frames take minutes to render. Some complete in as little as seven seconds.

I am in awe. While I had big dreams when I first started working on this project six years ago, I never could have imagined it running this well at that kind of speed. I am very happy with how this project has turned out so far, and can't quite believe I actually built something like this.

I typically wrap up these posts with a plan of where to take the project next, but the project has already exceeded my expectations. There is so much it is already capable of now that I have a permanent storage option available. I guess I could try getting that DRAM card running to expand the main memory beyond 2MB, or try adding a keyboard and some text routines to complement the video card. Both are good options towards getting a proper operating system running, which has always been a goal of the project.

Either way, I'm sure I'll have fun with it.

This is basically the current main board but with an e-ink display, I agree with the author of the article that this board would probably be very good for messaging even outside. So I'm thinking about input method possibilities for our current board that we could potentially apply to this later on to make it so you could have a handheld PierMesh e2ee (the e2ee might take some futzing around/soldering a coprocessor) messaging device without a phone or anything else.

If you thought being an Ipad kid was bad, Imagine being an AI kid.

So, to explain my name and pfp, this blog is kind of run from the POV of my main starfinder character: A young Vlaka (Ancom/Syndicalist space wolves with a high rate of neurological deafness/blindness) who's special little quirk is that their brain's half AI.

The fun bit about this is that they've basically had it implanted in their head since they were a puppy, which as led to them developing very strangely as a person. The ai was originally patterned after an old famous survivalist and conservationist (think Les Stroud meets Steve Irwin), but was tweaked to be more ruthless over time to compensate for the harsh world the pack moved to when their previous planet suffered an ecological disaster. So when my character needed severe brain surgery to fix a traumatic head injury, it was agreed that the AI would be implanted to try and help replace some of the damaged cerebrum.

What came out the other side was the sweetest little murder puppy the pack had ever had. The implant that the pack had found for the surgery had enough througput that instead of being a simple coprocessor, the pup's conciousness fully linked with it, fusing the pup and the AI into a single entity. A ruthless knowledgeable survivalist, with the cuddlyness and appetite of a growing pup.

This, of course, led to tons of shenanigans, as little quirks rose up from the pup's new hybrid mind. The usual drive to gnaw and bite things to investigate them gained a new underlying reason, as the AI part of them now craved all the sensory experiences that it had been unable to have until now, pushing the pup into becoming quite the gourmand, with a special penchant for spicy or acidic foods. A fascination with guns (brought on by the pup's deafness meaning that the crack of a rife was one of the few things they could hear) turned into an almost obsession, the AI supplying plans for all sorts of makeshift boomsticks to the eager and saftey unconcerned pup's mind.

Suffice to say, they're a huge pawful for the pack and a fun and reliable party member for the group we ran them with.

The reinforced armor comes with a material to dampen shocks and impact. It can absorb small firearms and reflect large caliber firearms up to a certain point before needing to be repaired. Has force fields plasma shields, laser shields, energy shields, and hard light shields that can absorb and reflect damage before needing to be recharged. 

It has limited hover, flying, & gliding capabilities. It has built in thrusters integrated into the boots for launch. Divine costume: 

First costume: It is a basic clothed armor made out of animal hide and quilted linen. It comes with animal hide, leather, & wooden round shield.

Second costume: It is a basic metal armor made out of iron, bronze, copper, and dragon studded leather. It comes with an iron, bronze, & copper round shield.

Third costume: It is made out thick, multilayered of threads of giant spider silk, studded dragon leather, wood, & quilted linen, hardened plastic. It comes with a metal ballistic shield.

Fourth Costume: The amour is also part of their manifestation as the deity of storms. When he/she/they shifts into this form the armor forms around him/her/them. Borrowing from the motif of mist gathering itself into the form of the armor. When the mist is fully concentrated into the correct shape the armor manifests itself. This happens as they move. The whole transformation can be seen to take place over a few steps, one form dropping away and dissolving into mist/fog with the mist/fog then coalescing into Kana’i/Ataahua with the manifestation of the cloak and armor lagging slightly behind the manifestation of his/her/their body. The leather parts of the armor is the same color of the Pacific sea during an ‘ino (dark greens and purples merging together to form an almost-dark gray color when viewed at a distance.)  His/her/their cloak is a manifestation of their powers. It is a constantly shifting concentration of storm clouds that fade to clouds then to fog and then cycles back up, with that happening in a gradient across the cloak. So in some places on the cloak the storm clouds will fully be in effect while elsewhere the cloak looks like fog.

Fifth Costume: It is a metal armor made of chainmail and steel modular plate armor. It has a gorget (that protects the chest), a bevor (protecting the lower face, neck, chin, & throat) a breastplate or chestplate (that protects the chest), backplate, pauldrons (that protect the shoulders), plackart (that protected the lower half of the torso), cuirass (that protected the front of the torso), culet (that protects the small of back and the buttocks), couters (that protects the elbows), poleyns (that protected the knees), faulds (to protect the waist and hips), gauntlets (that protect the forearms to the hands), gardbraces (to protect the armpits), vambraces (that protect the elbow to the forearm), sabatons (that protect the feet), cuisses (to protect the thighs), tassat (that protect the groin, upper thighs, & pelvis), & greaves (that covered from the shin to the knee). It comes with a knight helmet. It is based on knight armor and paladin armor. It comes with a red cape. It comes with a silver diamond shield, a gold rectangular shield, & platinum war door shield.

It was forged with divine elements that acts as a conduit to supercharge any elemental and divine magic used by the wearer. It is also a modernized helmet that protects them and hides identity but also allows them to see than a typical knight or spartan like helmet.

It is reinforced with precious metals (like divine iron, heavenly bronze, divine silver, celestial gold). East Asian, Southeast Asian, & European inspired full plate armor made out of celestial steel. It is a magical powered armor suit. 

It is decorated with precious gemstones (like pearls, amethyst, sapphire, ruby, emerald, jade, & diamonds). The armor was elaborately gilded, etched, and embossed with fine decoration. It is carved with magical symbols and emblems. It is engraved with magical runes and sigils. It has a red and gold cape. 

Holstered to the armor are small wooden, leather, and animal hide shields. Holstered to the armor are medium iron, bronze, & copper shields. Holstered to the armor are medium gold, silver, & platinum shields. Holstered to the armor are large steel, titanium, & tungsten shields. 

Strapped to the armor are throwing knives, combat daggers, combat knives, tonfas, escrima sticks, nunchucks, two short handled war hammers, two short axes, two sword swords, a broadsword, a longsword, a two handed spear, a bojutsu bo staff, a two handed battle axe, a two handed sledgehammer, & a two handed great sword. 

Strapped to the armor are two magical quadruple barrel flintlock pistols, a magical tri barrel flintlock rifle, a magical double barrel blunderbuss, a magical six shot revolvers, a magical ten shot lever action repeating rifle, a magical carbine, a magical bolt action sniper rifle, a magical combat shotgun, a magical submachine gun, a magical light machine gun, a magical medium machine gun, & a magical Gatling Gun. 

For combat in melee combat, ranged combat (like bows and guns), and unarmed combat the Asian Pasifika demigod and Afro Latine Native alien hybrid superhero main character deals fire (fire, magma, lava) incineration damage, lightning shock damage, water drench damage, ice (snow, ice, frost) frozen damage, earth (earth, stone, metal & sand) physical damage, wind (air, wind, smoke, & fog), nature (plants, wood, nature) ensnare damage, poison toxic damage, and acid corrosive status and damage effects. 

There is also light holy damage, dark necrotic damage, magic arcane damage, aether and nether esoteric damage, spiritual soul damage, & psionic mental damage, temporal time damage, quantum dimensional damage, nuclear radioactive damage, chaos damage, and void reality warping damage. This armor can supercharge those attacks to a certain point before needing to be recharged. This armor can also take attacks with status effects to a certain point before needing to be repaired.
