I think pierced ears and earrings are cool and all, but I’m not a fan of wearing earrings all the time because they allow the evil god of change and war and destruction to influence your thoughts emotions and actions and prevent the god of safety and peace and preservation from helping you and giving you extra superpowers and letting you share references to your favorite book series.

Can't believe Szeth kills a king who dies giving him a magic sphere and mumbling some very cryptic stuff to tell his brother and he just... writes it down with his blood and leaves. Puts the magic sphere in a cave somewhere and forgets about it. Can't remember the very important very mysterious names the king mentioned before dying. Was sitting on top of the Magic city everyone is looking for before anyone found it and it's just never brought up again. Gets a strange bloodthirsty magic sword that could destroy anything and sucks on his soul everytime he draws it and just starts calling it "sword-nimi" and having conversations with it. He's really Just Some guy

I think it’s funny when people roll their eyes about all the time Sanderson spends on clothes and fashion, as if it’s not an integral part of the world building and character development. I did my undergrad thesis on fashion semiotics in Mistborn (primarily using Roland Barthes) and there’s a direct correlation between how Vin is dressing and where she’s at on the hero’s journey, but in a way that doesn’t feel obvious at first. So it’s interesting to read Yumi and see how Sanderson is utilizing the language of fashion to explore these worlds and characters. The changing room scene with Akane is more than just a cute romcom scene, it’s about the process of discovery. Which is obvious but I can’t help harkening back to Barthes, who co-opts De Saussure’s thoughts on language for the use of fashion.
De Saussure identifies two aspects of language and communication: langue and parole. Langue is the rules of a particular language (subject verb order, for example) and parole is how an individual uses those rules to express themselves. Barthes applies this idea to fashion. We’re given these arbitrary rules of fashion (even as simple as “one must be dressed in public”) and from there we learn to work within the parameters of those rules to outwardly express ourselves. There’s a difference between your favorite pair of jeans and the pair of slacks you wear to work; there’s a difference between the dress you wear to a job interview and the dress you wear on a date where you’re trying to fuck.
The changing room scene is Yumi shotgunning the concepts of langue and parole all at once. She is learning new rules (you can have your shoulders bare) while learning how to express herself within the parameters of those rules (you can wear a dress with bare shoulders and still cover your shoulders with another garment). It’s cute and sweet but also important. She’s learning not just how to express herself but also that she’s allowed to. There’s nothing frivolous about how Sanderson uses and describes fashion. It’s a direct outgrowth of the journeys he sends his characters on.

Okay but if you support Scadrial please kindly DNI
I don't care what you call it, the way they study less-developed planets is colonialism and that is NOT OKAY!
They literally withhold technology and information that could save hundreds of thousands of lives on EACH PLANET so they can exploit the native people for information and supplies
Let me repeat: they keep a monopoly on life-changing information to fuel their sense of superiority over the "simple-minded natives." (This is genuine language they use. It's sickening to even think about.)
No I don't care if Allomancy is "cool" or that they're so "technologically advanced" or "giving us a better understanding of Investiture"
There are better methods of studying Investiture than invading other worlds. Besides, yall know they're weaponizing their research wherever they can right. It's not some benevolent volunteer group of scientists, it's a literal military operation
TLDR; Scadrial is a colonialist planet and yall need to stop acting like they're so perfect

Honor in in the stormlight archive is like a reverse elvis where only a few people of varying but poor mental health think he's dead and everyone else is demanding to see the corpse.

Oh look ive stumbled into a party with all the cosmere protagonists!
Susebron, Elend, Raoden, and Adolin are talking books, Adolin looks quite bored but everyone in the party is extremely enthusiastic.
Huh their wives have grouped up too. I think they are having a sassy comment competition. Sarene is giving a good effort but Shallan and Siri are running away with it. Siri's hair is bright yellow and they all have those smug grins on their faces. It looks like Vin is sticking with her court persona and seems to be discreetly judging if the others can fight.
Oh good! Raoden noticed Adolin was bored and switched the conversation to responsibility. They are all now talking animatedly about what they owe to their people.

I love that the only thing that leaked from the spoiler QnA is that hoid dated a dragon, like either it must’ve been a very boring QnA or the thought of hoid/koravellium/tanavast love drama is just that mind blowing

I know everyone is laughing at Hoid wearing a Hawaiian shirt to defeat Riina, but I feel like the actual shirt implications are lost on a lot of people. (Spoilers for a lot of Stormlight and Mistborn!)
Tumblr media
Those are the Marewill flowers. The Ghostblood symbol. Hoid has a shirt of those flowers purely to mock Kelsier. Mare's flowers. I have a feeling Kel has no idea, but once he finds out there may be a small war on a planet that has no idea what is happening.

I think it's fitting that the Sunlit Man gave us a standard unit for Investiture and had Aux give measurements to Nomad since Sigzil complained about not being able to measure Stormlight precisely when they were testing Kaladin's powers.

Hi my name is Hoid/Dust/Cephandrius/Lunu'anaki and so on and I’m a Worldhopper (that’s how I got so many names) and I have a hideous silvery-white mullet and icy blue eyes like limpid tears and a lot of authors tell me I look like a hawk (AN: ok fine just one author and if u don’t know who he is get da hell out of here!). I’m a Mistborn, an Awakener, a Surgebinder, and an Elantrian. I also once held a Dawnshard (I’m old). I tragically lost my fashion sense in a recent curse-related incident (in case you couldn’t tell) and I’d been wearing the strangest outfits you could even possibly imagine. I loved thrifting and bartering and I got all my clothes from there. For example today I was wearing a floral buttoned shirt, shorts that were way too short, and sandals. With socks. I was walking around the Sorceress’s phallic silver tower. I had just become an Elantrian and gained the ability to draw Aons, which I was very happy about. The Sorceress stared at me. I put up my middle finger at her. “Hello Riina,” I said. “I hope your last few years have been exactly as lovely as you are.”

Everyday I scroll through the cosmere tags after finishing the books and KEEP finding information through obscure jokes that make me lose my shit. Like. GALLADON is a WORLDHOPPER? TIEN was becoming a LIGHTWEAVER? CULTIVATION is a fucking DRAGON? The IRALI are NOT from roshar? That lighthouse keeper in shadesmar was actually that HOED from elantris? Rlain x Renarin is ACTUALLY happening? Someday I'll read something like HAHA remember that time- and that's it I'll go deranged.

With proper Space Age Cosmere just over the horizon, from what we've seen, Sanderson is very good at making the cultures he already had us fall in love with fucking infuriating from an outside perspective. Like damn, with Sixth of Dusk and The Sunlit Man, Scadrians are a bunch of fucking bitches, aren't they?

The Alloy of Law chapter 16 be like:
wayne, dressed as an old lady: oh the world keeps changing, it's so bizarre, could give me a detailed analysis of how this high security transportation vehicle works?
a poor tekiel guard: well you see, once these doors lock no one can enter in or out for twelve whole hours.
wayne, noting in his traded notebook: and would you say this mechanism is completely foolproof? could dynamite penetrate it? what about allomancers?
tekiel guard: what would they do? Push so hard they'd be blown off the train? if they did get into it, there will be guards waiting inside
wayne, still in an old lady's costume: and what are they armed with?
tekiel guard: a motherfuckin- hold on...
wayne:...
tekiel guard: and why would you-
wayne: OH I'M MISSING MY TEA *RUNNING*
wayne, changing his costume to a lord: oh, by the Survivor! how did this happen?
tekiel guard: he was disguised as an elderly-
wayne: and how many soldiers did yoy say again you had, Captain?
tekiel guard: three dozen-
wayne: THAT'S NOT ENOUGH, LET ME SEND YOU MY PERSONAL GUARD
wayne, now in the costume of a guard: oh, my lord is quite paranoid, i'll let you do what you need to do.
wayne: have you met my buddy, Bren?
wax: ✌🏻 sup

The Stormlight archive’s position on deity is “if you squint hard enough everything wrong with society is in some way god’s fault”
Mistborn era 1’s position on deity is “god and god’s edgy lover are both stupid and dying and a personal relationship to faith is way more valuable than whatever an actual higher power could ever give you”
Mistborn era 2’s position on deity is “religious freedom is cool also god is a stupid fucking asshole whose divine attribute is “upholding the status quo” so he didn’t realize all of the people in power were worshipping the same pyramid scheme cult”
Warbreaker’s position on deity is “if god did exist then she’d turn faith into a capitalist nightmare where people sell their souls for the precognition industrial complex because she’s too obsessed with making people look cool to make the world into an actual nice place”
Elantris’s position on deity is “whatever the fuck the Elantrians are doing with their post-scarcity socialist utopia is way cooler than what would be happening if either of their gods were alive, also god is a pyramid scheme made to enforce imperialism” (dubious)
White sand’s position on deity is “the coolest thing god ever did was make someone too cool for god’s bullshit” and “I don’t know I’ve never read white sand”
IN SUMMARY:
The Cosmere’s position on deity is:
God is best when ripped apart violently and divided among the people, if god was one guy that guy would suck and would have a lot of blood on their hands
Shatter all shards 2023
