It's usually my bible, whatever novel I'm working my way through, and a notebook.
26. your favorite memoir
GIRL I- Realizing I've really never read any memoirs? thinking I read 1-2 in high school but that was a minute ago lol.
42. a book that made you want to scream by the time you got to the end
uh okay not to beat a dead horse but Brandon Sanderson consistently writes books that make me want to scream because the plot twists are so consistently solid and good.

Rereading the Stormlight Archive books—and by extension, the other Cosmere books—is an interesting experience. The way Sanderson writes makes you second guess every single detail on your second read of the books. Like, you sit through the whole first read going “Ok, what the cinnamon toast *fuck* is going on?” And “Nononononononono, oh shit oh fuck nonono”
But then on the second read it feels like most of the time it’s just: *narrows eyes* “Hold on a minute…” and “Oh I see now…I still have no clue what the Kentucky fried fuck is going on, but I understand *that* detail more clearly.
That said, I don’t trust Sanderson (endearing). He’s very good at misleading his readers (in-story and out-of-story) with little pieces of information that *feel* like they could be something important, but end up not being important. So, when information hasn’t been clarified as important/unimportant, you’re led to wonder until whatever twist happens that clarifies said information.

jasnah makes me a bit insane because she wants to act all aloof and unaffected but if you take a step back and look at her actions it's actually ridiculously easy to see how she cares so so so so much. talking to the assassin in secret because she doesn't want her family to worry. paying a huge amounts of money for liss to only keep watch because even though she suspects that *the wife to the direct heir of the throne* is actually a traitor she doesn't want to do that to her little brother. willingly putting herself in danger so she can eradicate any threats to citizens who are unable to protect themselves in the way she can. goes out of her way to solve all of her ward's problems even after she knew shallan had been lying and planning to betray her since day one. and on top of that being worried that shallan (who, once again, had been planning to cheat her all along) would not be happy with the solution she found because she doesn't want her to be unhappy. jasnah kholin i love you.

I'm on Words of Radiance right now and I gotta say,
I just love Kaladin, like he has a mysterious past that he isn't interested in talking about, and he has like no respect for anyone who hasn't personally earned it, and clearly wants to be left alone forever. But he sucks at getting people to ignore him.
Like first of all, he looks everyone in the eyes, even people so far above his station. He has an impeccable posture and presence at all times, even without considering the whole stormlight thing which apparently can make you look prettier/more saturated in the world. He has slave scars marking him as dangerous and just pretends that he's basically of a station to light-eyes. And he barely even remembers to call the King 'your majesty', it's an afterthought at best and if the King believed that he actually had authority Kaladin would probably be dead. (Of course if the King was a stronger personality than maybe Kaladin would have shown him respect).
He wants to be left alone to die but has such strong sense of honor and empathy that he ends up caring about anyone that ends up in his vicinity for more than 5 min if they need help in any way. He adopts Renarin, grudgingly likes/respects Adolin even when Adolin drives him absolutely insane. He does his absolute best at any job he is given no matter how hard it makes his life or how many toes he steps on.
And he cannot hide his skills to save his life. So far, about half way through the book he's not terrible at hiding the stormlight, except that he is and the people around him just have more to worry about (like dying) when he has to use it.
He's a very very good surgeon even though he didn't actually have the chance to formally study, and when literally anyone calls him on it, he's just like 'I learned field medicine' - sir, you think field medicine is a good excuse for knowing more about epilepsy than the light-eyed noble that HAS the epilepsy??? Really?? Like are you even trying anymore? You're using words that no one else has ever heard of and you are teaching everyone around you field medicine.
He will literally never be able to blend in ever in his life.
I love him.

Hey Stormlight people! I’ve had this for a while but finally managed to recreate it digitally!
This is my unofficial script/language/alphabet (+ user manual because I made it far more complicated than was probably necessary but whatever) that I created for the singer/listener people, and I thought some of y’all might enjoy!

Couple of notes:
the rhythm symbols have no actual basis in anything, I just tried to make something that captures the feeling of the word. “Tension” is one of the more obvious ones but the others are vibe only so
Apologies on the handwriting, it’s not the greatest but oh well
If you have any questions on how to use or just anything in general I am willing to answer!
All credit goes to me please don’t claim this as your own (ik it’s whatever but this did take me like actually ~14 hours total so please be kind)

Another thing that makes kaladin so painfully relatable is how much his mental illness hides his personality, because between depressive episodes and trauma he's this sarcastic little shit that smiles a lot at his friends and then the depression gets to him and all that disappears

continution of stormlight au 14, where kaladin keeps it together just a little longer:
Adolin: Storms! So both you and bridgeboy have been radiants—
Kaladin: surgebinders.
Adolin: surgebinders, this whole time? Unbelievable! Anyone else here secretly a surgebinder?
Renarin:
Shallan: I— your cousin. Jasnah. She didn't have a soulcaster. She was one.
Kaladin: Wait. I thought you said she died.
Shallan: Radiants can be killed! She had a sword through her chest!
Kaladin: I mean...I haven't tested that out specifically. But I've been shot a lot. And I was basically flayed alive. Teft nursed me back to life with a few diamond chips.
Adolin: Hah! The assassin did get you with a shardblade, didn't he? And you healed from it!
Navani: I knew it. She's impossible to kill.
Shallan: I— but I sank the boat. Oh stormfather...
Kaladin: I can also survive without breathing a while. 20 minutes easily. haven't timed my limits.
Adolin:
Shallan:
Shallan: I — wait, did you say you were flayed alive? What? Why?
Kaladin: It's — it's how the whole stormblessed title happened. Got strung up in a highstorm.
Adolin: Huh. At this point I was wondering if you got the title talking to the stormfather himself, ha!
Kaladin:
Adolin: ....Bridgeboy?
Kaladin: It. I mean during highstorms sometimes...
Adolin: I swear if you say you thought it was a hallucination I'm throwing you as far as I can. And I'm wearing plate right now.
Kaladin: It— it can't have been real.
Adolin: I'll do it bridgeboy. I know you can take it.
Kaladin: Fine. Anyway. That's how I got the stormblessed name. Sadeas ordered me outside, left upside down in a highstorm. Not fun, but I lived.
Shallan: So... she really could be alive...
Adolin: My captain of the guard, my bethrothed, and my cousin! Ha! Renarin, you'd tell me if you were a radiant — I mean a surgebinder, right?
Renarin:
Adolin: Renarin?
Renarin:
Adolin: Renarin...I...but why wouldn't you tell me?
Renarin (crying): I thought I was going mad. I was seeing things, I could hear screaming from my shardblade...
Kaladin: I hear that too!
Shallan: There's...something wrong with most shardblades.
Renarin: I thought it was...
Adolin (gripping Renarin's shoulder): Brother.
Adolin: I don't think hallucinations are real.

Because I’m tired over parenting debates where the only true answer is Straff, who’s the worst sibling?
Motivations under the cut:
Reen - Was physically and psychologically abusive towards his sister.
Zane - Tried to have his brother assasinated and tried to make his sister in law fall in love with him because he was jealous and when she didn't reciprocrate tried to kill her as well. Also got multiple of his other siblings killed during the previously mentioned assassination attempt.
Gavilar - Used his brother as a weapon and then used his following ptsd and addiction as a way to manipulate him. He also persued the girl he knew his brother wanted to court.
Dalinar - Was about to kill his brother once, got drunk and didn’t listen during his meetings and eventually fucked his widow (which is good for her but I imagine Gavilar would take issue).
Telsin - Faked her death, killed her brother, then tried to nuke his home city.
Eventeo - Took the throne from his brother and banished him.
Kiin - Tried to take the throne back from his brother by force.
Balat - Let his sister deal with their family problems and feel responsible for him and their brothers despite being the youngest.
Helaran - Left his siblings alone with their abusive father.
Kelsier - Died? And fought over a girl.
Venli - Set off events that led to her sisters death, kinda. Idk it's not her I just wanted more women on the list.
Prime Elhokar - Had one of his sisters closest allies murdered in front of her. Basically locked her up so she couldn't tell anyone and then married her off to Sadeas/Amaram against her wishes.

Just finished Words of Radiance and my boy Adolin really do be just surrounded by Radiants isn’t he.
Like this boy just wants to be a good warrior and suddenly his fiancé, friend (begrudgingly), brother, dad and cousin (who he thinks is dead) are all mythically powerful knights
