Furiosa spoilers under the cut 🚗
It's actually staggering how much that movie did not need to exist. Gonna bullet point some thoughts
My sarcastic lol @ the lightning fast sisters cameo at the end where they're all played by completely different people. the quick flash of Cheedo's eyes bc they managed to get Courtney Eaton back for three seconds didn't appease me
I guess it technically passes the bechdel test bc right at the start Furiosa says "be still" to Valkyrie but iirc that's the only pass moment. I know not passing the bechdel test doesn't mean the movie is automatically bad I just think it's interesting considering it's following Fury Road
"she talks to her mother" I don't think they ever said her mum's name out loud
You know how mad max fury road could have a silent version w no dialogue + isolated soundtrack and it worked because you could tell what's going on anyway? This movie has the opposite problem. Way too much talking. They over-explain everything
The best bit was the prolonged torture scene at the end where Hemsworth explains Furiosa's entire character arc and the message of the movie out loud to her and also us
Even his teddy had an arm missing, replaced with a barbie arm. Thanks. We get it
Her arm made robot noises
Actually threw MY arms up in disgust when she went back for that boy she supposedly had a romance with despite the film never bothering to actually show/explain that. I'm calling it a romance because the actors did. I guess it was supposed to be a Capable/Nux parallel but it didn't work for me and not just because I'm a dyke and a hater OK, if you're gonna do a ROMANCE, DO A ROMANCE. don't leave me sitting there wondering why Furiosa is risking it all for some guy she's had ONE conversation with, especially after he offers to get her away from the Citadel and back to where she came from, WHICH IS HER ENTIRE MOTIVE EVER SINCE SHE WAS TAKEN
I DON'T GET IT
Them trying to emulate Max and Furiosa's instinctive, perfect we have to trust each other moment by having Jack and Furiosa... look at each other Meaningfully fifty times while they were supposed to be driving cars? Don't make me laugh! You will never be them!!
Max being there for a second wasn't cute! I rolled my eyes
Same at "remember me?" MAKE UP YOUR OWN STUFF
So many things happened because they needed to happen (plot demanded it) and didn't make any sense in context. My favourite was when Furiosa rode her motorcycle up a dune to get away after cutting off her arm and the biker gang couldn't follow her up there for some reason
So much Christian imagery... threw me off tbh
Considering it's Furiosa's movie it sure isn't about her + she doesn't speak at all for almost the first half
This movie was way too long
I called it about the peach seed
I called it that she cut her own arm off
George Miller read some of my blog but not all of it
You know how The People Eater rubbed his nipple that one time and it was delightfully weird and gross and got a good reaction? Well in this movie he's constantly rubbing it, the whole time. Really lessens the impact of the nipple rub
As you can see this movie has made me insane
Like this is not really about the nipple rub but do you get what I'm saying here
Furiosa spends most of the movie hiding her hair (because as we all know, having long hair immediately identifies you as a woman) and then when her head covering gets knocked off and her hair is revealed (omg she's a girl) she leaves it like that and becomes an Imperator. On what planet
The history man frames the entire movie for some reason. Do they show Miss Giddy? Take a wild guess
One of the coolest parts of fury road was that a gang of bikers ended up being hardcore wasteland grannies w guns and loose morals in response to people fucking around for far too long without finding out. Did this movie have anything like that for me? Take a wild guess for a second time
The car fight scenes weren't even that great. Couldn't remember hearing any good music under them (brother in arms truly lightning in a bottle) and they went on for too long which feels wild to say about suped up car battles in the australian wasteland: 2 but oh well. This is how I feel. Fury Road was so good at carefully measuring out high octane action and then downtime and careful, quiet character introspection and this movie had no idea what it was doing either way
Honestly I don't hate it but I feel like it was a waste of time and it doesn't need to exist at all. A real nothing experience. Am I going to see this movie ten times in cinemas? No I am not even going to see it twice in cinemas
I don't know what I was expecting.
oh my god also they played clips of Fury Road over the credits as if to say "remember how fucking good this is in comparison to the dumb shit you just watched"

I was talking to @notthatalex, and he said Courtney's Chosen has huge trans masc vibes, something I definitely have also seen for a while, and you know what it is? It's the way they hold themselves when they're playing The Chosen. She's always just positioned so awkwardly, seeming very uncomfortable in their body. That absolute look of closeted dysphoria and just wanting to crawl out of your skin.
Also her Chosen has fought God, and as I have said before and will say again, a great test for whether you can headcanon a character as nonbinary is whether or not they will fight God. Yet again, Courtney is out here confirming trans Chosen.
So basically, it is yet again Courtney Miller appreciation hour. Shout out to Courtney for giving all us trans masc chosen truthers the performance of our dreams.

TW: school lockdown
Lockdown. A shooter on campus. Things he never used to have to think about.
He was in class and the kids were quiet, everyone with their nose glued to their phones. The doors were barred. They all looked scared.
“Can anyone tell me what part of the brain takes over in fight or flight?” he asked quietly.
Most of them look up from their phones, confused. Classes were canceled, was this guy really trying to teach? This was a smaller, 200-level class, though, these kids knew this stuff.
One, in the front row, half raised her hand. Mulder nodded at her.
“The amygdala?”
“That’s right,” he said. He was sitting on top of one of the desks in the front of the room, trying to appear as casual and calm as he could so that his students might feed off of his vibe.
“When the alert came through our phones, the amygdala took over. Anyone remember the first step?”
“Perceiving the threat,” said a kid in the back.
“Yep,” Mulder said, holding up two fingers. “Step two: flight or flight, triggered by adrenaline and cortisol. These happen quickly. We can stay in step two for a bit. Prolonged stress response. Who feels like they’re in it now?”
Most of the hands in the class went up.
“The goal is to get the prefrontal cortex back in control,” he said.
“How do we do that?” said a sophomore from the front. He seemed a little angry, was nervously chewing his gum, fidgeting.
“Deep breathing can help,” Mulder said, and noticed a few students take deep breaths.
“Exercise too, believe it or not,” Mulder went on.
“We’re shit out of luck there,” said the sophomore. “We’re locked in this room.”
There were sirens blaring distantly from the other end of campus.
“True,” said Mulder. “But there are other ways.”
“Like?” said a quiet girl from the front. He thought her name might be Courtney.
“Talking to other people,” Mulder said. “Getting creative. And,” he went on, “Cognitive activities. Putting your brain to work. I want everyone to write or type out–right now–the title of the paper you turned in last week for this class. On paper, on your laptop, on your phone, doesn’t matter.”
He gave them all a minute. “Okay,” he said. “Now write down roughly what your thesis statement was.”
Another moment. “Okay. Now who’s still in Fight or Flight?”
Less hands went up and Mulder smiled. “See? It's already working.”
A few students smiled back, looking more calm.
Then, one of the girls that was on the ski trip with them raised her hand, her face pale.
“Professor Mulder?” she said.
Mulder nodded at her.
She swallowed. “They’re saying hostages were taken. In the Miller Lab.”
All the kids swung their phones back up and Mulder felt a sharp dart of primal fear pierce through his chest. The Miller Lab was the one Scully ran. And she was there right now.
***
What he was doing was idiotic and breaking pages worth of school protocol and policy, but he didn’t think about any of those things as he ran over the footbridge and toward the lab where Scully spent a majority of her time on campus.
The whole of the building was cordoned off with yellow police tape and there was a ring of police cruisers parked at haphazard angles surrounding it. Clumps of students stood in the trees beyond the emergency vehicles, some hugging each other, some nervously watching. About twenty yards away, Mulder spotted Rudy, one of Scully’s graduate lab assistants nervously chewing his black painted nails.
“Rudy!” Mulder called and ran over to him. “Where is she?” he asked without preamble.
“I don’t know,” Rudy said urgently. “I was in a different part of the building. There was shouting and then kind of chaos and then a gunshot. Someone pulled the fire alarm and we all tore ass out. I haven’t seen her.”
Next to Rudy stood another lab assistant. She was teary, wide-eyed.
“He said his name was Duane Barry,” she hiccuped. “He said…he said some crazy shit.”
Just then a large armored-like vehicle pulled onto the scene and parked. A moment later the back door opened and a large man in a blue slicker jacket hopped down. He was bald, with glasses, and when he turned to talk to one of the cops on the scene, Mulder saw the big yellow letters across the back of the man’s jacket: “FBI.”
“Fuuuuck,” swore Rudy softly.
Mulder was in a blind panic, but trying not to show it. Stairs were being attached to the big vehicle, and several other agents emerged from it, walkie-talkies in their hands, all of them looking serious, all of them wearing guns. He was on the verge of marching over and offering help or demanding answers–he wasn’t sure which–when he heard someone shout his name from behind him.
He whirled around and there was Scully coming at him at a full run, her white lab coat flapping in the air behind her. He tore away from Rudy and flew to meet her, sweeping her up into his arms and into a grip so fierce she grunted. Her arms swung around his neck and she pressed her mouth to his collar.
“I’m okay,” she whispered several inches below his ear. “I’m okay.”
***
Charlie and his wife Sandra sat across from them holding hands, Sandra’s dress the same pale pink as the linen tablecloth on Margaret Scully’s dining room table. The leaves of the table had been pulled out and put on and it was set up in festive Easter decor; elegant candlesticks, a light brown water pitcher shaped like a rabbit, round enamel eggs in pastels dotted amongst the platters heaped with honey-baked ham, salad, sweet rolls.
“God, that must have been terrifying,” Sandra said, looking at Scully with a sympathetic look.
“It was,” Scully said simply. She pulled her napkin out of its ring and draped it over her lap.
“I’m just glad they got the guy,” said Melissa, who lowered herself down to sit on Scully’s other side. Across from her, and next to Sandra, sat Bill and Tara, whose belly was softly rounded with pregnancy.
“What motivated him, did they say?” Charlie asked.
From the head of the table, Scully’s mother sat silent and uncomfortable, watching her children talk with her hand resting along the top of her wine glass.
“He claimed to have been abducted by aliens and experimented on,” Mulder said. “He thought the labs at the university were somehow involved in whatever he thinks happened to him.”
“Delusional,” Bill spit.
“Likely, yes,” Mulder said, the only person at the table qualified to make that diagnosis. He felt sorry for the man.
“Did you talk to him?” Bill asked, looking at his youngest sister.
Scully shook her head. “I saw him in the hallway with the gun. Threw the lock on my lab, pulled the fire alarm and jumped out my window.”
Mulder reached over and squeezed her hand. Her quick thinking had probably saved numerous lives.
The incident had shaken him profoundly. Made him rethink all of his priorities.
“I hope the man gets the help he needs,” Mrs. Scully finally spoke.
Mulder remembered watching the guy get perp-walked into the back of an unmarked sedan by the tall, bald FBI agent. He remembered the wild, desperate look in Barry’s eyes. Mulder hoped he’d get the help he needed, too.
“Let’s move on to happier discussions,” Mrs. Scully went on, giving her head a little shake and reaching her hands out on either side of her to grip hands with Charlie, with Mulder. “Who’d like to say grace?”
Mulder held her hand warmly, reached out to take Scully’s as well. Before he ducked his head, he looked briefly at Margaret Scully’s hand, at her thin, paper-like skin, her knobbly arthritic knuckles, the wedding ring on her hand sitting in its own worn groove, nicked and shining, a perfect circle of aurum.
Bless this food to our use
He’d like to put a ring on Scully’s finger, he thought suddenly. He’d like to bind her to him forever.
and us to thy service

My current, loose and not that interesting goal for this year is to really work on the books I have current access to right now... at the start of this year. Because it's a lot XD This means books currently favorite in Scribd, on my StoryGraph 'to read' pile, or a book I currently own on my shelves. Main goal is at least one of these a month.
For my own personal reference, I'm putting a list of such books below to hold myself accountable.
Edit: Now the end of 2023, and here's a breakdown of my goal to read books I already had access to at the start of 2023:
I didn't read one a month per se, but I got more than 12 done, so I call this a win. These books are:

LeRoy -Vampire Forensics - Mark Collins Jenkins -What Happened to You? - Oprah Winfrey -The Witch King - H. E. Edgmon -The Woman in White - Wilkie Collins
The books I did not get around to reading from this list are as follows: Black Water Sister by Zen Cho; Blood Scion by Deborah Falaye (o); The Book of M by Peng Shepard (o); Charity and Sylvia by Rachel Hope Cleves (o); The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (a); The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey (s); Fallen by Lauren Kate (o); Fanny Hill by John Cleland (o); Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender (s); The Glass Woman by Caroline Lea (s); The Great Hunger by Cecil Woodham-Smith (o); Helping Her Get Free by Susan Brewster (o); The Impossible Girl by Lydia Kang (s); Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold (o); The Merry Spinster by Daniel Lavery (o); On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong (o); The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang (s); Radiance by Grace Draven (a); Watching the Tree by Adeline Yen Mah (o); The Willows by Algernon Blackwood (s); Wings of Fire (o); Witches Steeped in Gold by Clannon Smart (o); The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid (s)
23/46 Whoa! That's exactly 50% of the books I had on my list! That's pretty cool! All in all, I consider this 2023 goal successfully done!

Courtney going on tour right after?
Theres a misconception that after Kurts death, Courtney went straight on tour right away. This is false. The album was already set to release a few days after and they couldnt change that on such a short notice. Promotion for the album was cancelled and she pushed back the tour 4 months.
“Live Through This was supposed to provide Love an opportunity to step out from her famous husband’s shadow. “It’s annoying now, and it’s been annoying for nine years, Love said in a 1999 Jane Magazine interview of always being connected to Cobain. Released four days after Cobain’s body was found, the album’s promotion was put on hold. Rather than retreat from the public eye, Love openly mourned and helped fans of Cobain and Nirvana make sense of the singer’s death. She sat with grieving teenagers gathered outside the couple’s Seattle home and recorded a reading of parts of his suicide note that was played at the singer’s memorial that gathered near the Space Needle. In the days following his death, Love showed a very raw and emotional side and admitted that, like many fans, she didn’t have all the answers.
It was, and still is, impossible for people to discuss Live Through This without noting the irony of the album’s title. Love has said the name was not a prediction at all, but instead a reflection of all she had endured in the months leading up to its release, including a very public custody fight with the Los Angeles Department of Family Services over daughter Frances Bean. Rumors suggested that Cobain had written much of Live Through This (it’s Miss World, not Mister, just FYI). “I’d be proud as hell to say that he wrote something on it, but I wouldn’t let him. It was too Yoko for me. It’s like, ‘No fucking way, man! I’ve got a good band, I don’t fucking need your help,’” was Love’s response to critics in Spin’s oral history of Live Through This. Love and Cobain often shared notebooks and lyrics with each other, and while there is talk of Cobain’s influence on Love’s work, or the writing of all of it, less is mentioned in the press of her impact on his lyrics and music. Rather than sucking all the life out of Nirvana or threatening the success of the band, like many assumed she would do, she inspired Cobain. Fun fact: In Utero, Nirvana’s last album, was named after a line from one of Love’s poems.
Sadly, songwriting rumors would be replaced by other rumors. Women are often vilified and condemned for the deaths of their male partners. Love, like all women, was supposed to save her partner from death and addiction. Fans of Cobain projected all their anger and resentment over the loss of the Nirvana front man onto Love, and soon she was blamed for not only his addiction but also his death. There are even two movies devoted to the theory that Courtney killed Kurt: the awful Soaked in Bleach (2015) and the equally awful Kurt & Courtney (1998). If you think we’ve come a long way, baby, sadly we haven’t.
One year after Anthony Bourdain’s death, Asia Argento is still being blamed, and in September 2018, Ariana Grande had to take a break from social media after fans blamed her for the death of her ex Mac Miller. A few months later, she would be blamed for new beau Pete Davidson’s mental health and addiction issues. It’s amazing she finds the time to write hit songs what with all the dude destruction she has going on. When women are not being blamed for the deaths of the men in their lives, they are being attacked for not grieving properly. “She wasn’t crying. She’s got $30 million coming to her. Do you blame her for being so cool?” a hospital staffer said of Yoko Ono following John Lennon’s murder in 1980.
About four months after Cobain’s death, Love went on tour to promote her new album. Some questioned and judged why she would go on tour so soon, but Love has said it was a necessity. She had a young daughter to support. She needed to work. She also, sadly, still needed to prove herself. “I would like to think that I’m not getting the sympathy vote, and the only way to do that is to prove that what I’ve got is real,” Love told Rolling Stone in 1994.
Twenty-five years later, Cobain’s death still hangs over Live Through This. In the days leading up to the anniversary of Cobain’s death, former Hole bassist Melissa Auf der Maur wrote an open letter to music magazine Kerrang saying she “would not stand for Kurt’s death overshadowing the life and work of the women he left behind this year.”
“We were extremely well designed for each other,” Love has said of her relationship with Cobain. In a letter reprinted in Dirty Blonde: The Diaries of Courtney Love, she calls him “my everything. the top half on my fraction.” The two had similar upbringings, both came from broken homes and spent childhoods shuttling between relatives and friends. They both grew up longing for love and acceptance. When we tell the story of Kurt and Courtney we talk about drugs and destruction, but we don’t talk enough about love.
The two also shared an intense drive and ambition. “I didn’t want to marry a rock star, I wanted to be one,” Love said in a 1992 Sassy interview. Evidence of her drive can be found in the many notes and to-do lists she kept, some of which are collected in Dirty Blonde. There are reminders to send her acting résumé to agencies, to write three to four new songs a week, to “achieve L.A. visibility.” A scene in the documentary Kurt & Courtney features an ex of Love’s reading from one of her to-do lists, which has “become friends with Michael Stipe” as the number one task to complete (not only did Love do this, but he is her daughter’s godfather). This ambition is not surprising from a woman who, when she was younger, mailed a tape of herself singing to Neil Sedaka in hopes of getting signed. Love knew what she wanted at an early age, and what she wanted was fame.
She was certainly living by the “do not hurt yourself, destroy yourself, mangle yourself to get the football captain. Be the football captain!” motto she championed in the 1995 documentary Not Bad for a Girl. Ambition is often a dirty word when it is used to describe women and Love is no exception. She has been repeatedly described as calculating and controlling when she should be rewarded for her blond ambition and viewed as an inspiration. Critics and the press often call her a gold digger who only married Cobain for fame and money. They fail to mention that when the two met Pretty on the Inside was actually selling more copies than Bleach, Nirvana’s debut album. Even post-Kurt, Love’s intentions were always under scrutiny. On the Today Show to do press for The People vs. Larry Flynt, Love refused to talk about her past drug use, despite the host’s repeated questions, saying the topic was not an appropriate fit for the show’s demographic. She was right, but it didn’t stop a writer from describing the move as “calculating” in a 1998 Spin piece.
Cobain was ambitious too; he was just much slyer and more secretive about it. He was known to call his manager and complain when MTV didn’t play Nirvana’s videos enough, and he would correct journalists who misquoted the band’s sales figures in interviews. While success is typically celebrated and rewarded for men and it certainly was for Cobain, he also had to be mindful of the slacker generation that loved Nirvana and greeted success — and especially mainstream success —
While female celebrities like Love are criticized for their rebellion, male celebrities, like Cobain for example, are celebrated and mythologized for it. Cobain and Love both struggled with addiction, but it is Love who is repeatedly vilified for her drug use. “She was vilified for being a mess, for being a drug addict, for not being a great parent — in other words, all of the things we expect in a male rock star,” said Bust magazine in a piece in the magazine’s 20th anniversary issue, which featured Love on the cover.
We make jokes about the drug antics of male celebrities from Keith Richards to Charlie Sheen, idolizing their debauchery and depravity. The new Netflix/Lifetime movie by Jack Daniels, The Dirt, about Mötley Crüe, takes the band’s excesses to almost comic levels. Check out crazy tourmate Ozzy Osbourne snorting a line of ants by a hotel pool! Such zany antics! I would love to see Lindsay Lohan try to get away with that. We never allow women to live down their arrests and their addictions, but we repeatedly allow men to have a redemption arc. Robert Downey Jr. was in and out of jail and on and off drugs for much of the mid to late ’90s, but we rarely, if ever, talk about his past.
When Love isn’t being attacked for her addiction issues, she is being judged for her parenting. Love’s first unflattering press was “Strange Love,” the much publicized 1992 Vanity Fair profile by Lynn Hirschberg. While the piece talks at length about Love’s drug use and constantly questions her parenting ability, it doesn’t paint Cobain in the same light. “It is appalling to think that she would be taking drugs when she knew she was pregnant,” says one close friend in the piece. Hirschberg relies on many unnamed sources and focuses often on the tabloid-like aspects of Love’s life and addictions. “Courtney has a long history with drugs. She loves Percodans (‘They make me vacuum’), and has dabbled with heroin off and on since she was eighteen, once even snorting it in Room 101 of the Chelsea Hotel, where Nancy Spungen died,” she writes. “Reportedly, Kurt didn’t do much more than drink until he met Courtney.” (Even when it is reported by Kurt and Krist that Kurt tried heroin in 1989, way before Courtney, It was also known that he smoked weed and used caugh syrup to get high in 1989 and 1990.)
This double standard was common in coverage of the couple. In Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, the 2015 documentary by Brett Morgen, Love asks her husband, “Why does everyone think you’re the good one and I’m the bad one?” Later in the film we see a scene of Frances Bean’s first haircut. The child sits on Cobain’s lap while Love searches for a comb and scissors. The camera shows Cobain nodding off, and while he maintains that he is just tired, it’s clear he’s not. The scene is painful to watch, especially because those around Cobain carry on like nothing in wrong, giving the feeling this is just like any other day in the Love-Cobain household. The scene is a reminder of how the press treated Cobain’s addiction when he was alive. They just carried on like nothing was wrong, instead directing all their judgement at Love.

We are the reckless side characters because I’ve got plans.
It’s a long one. Possible spoilers for future events.
This’ll all make sense down the line, scout’s honour.
Original Students:
Derek Miller: The main bully on Blackfield high school. Cruel and sadistic to those he targets, he’s been harassing Raven and Kelly since fifth grade and has only gotten more frequently dangerous as the years went on. But maybe the final year will bring about some changes…
Courtney Flood: The self declared “gossip queen” of Blackfield, Courtney thrives on attention and ruining the lives of those she selects as her “lucky subjects.” She used to be friends with Mary, but had a falling out in tenth grade. Her heart burns with resentment, but knows Mary is too high to touch. But she’s willing to wait for her chance to rise.
Kayla Price: Voted “most likely to win a bar fight” Kayla is tall, intimidating, and been in her fair share of school fights. Despite her reputation, she’s quite mellow so be around. She doesn’t like being caught up in fights, but it gets people off her back. Has an eye for visual arts and a fan of Italian cuisine.
(Twisted Metal AU)
Amanda Watts: Energy personified and ten time track champion, Amanda is almost always buzzing with life. While she usually frequents the track field for some running or skate park when she has the time, she’s also a pretty good listener if you can catch her at the right time. She’s not a fan of bullies either, having been through her share of grief back in middle school.
Mary Bloom: Considered by many to be one of the popular Blackfield students, Mary has spent much time carefully crafting her school persona and surrounding herself with allies. Rumours of her love life are discussed, though none know the truth except for her best friend, Kristen Welch, and why would she betray her friend like that? Mary can be a bit prissy and uptight, but there is a good heart inside.
Jamie Roberts: The younger sister of former sports Captain Carl Roberts, Jamie is someone who keeps to herself. Tied with Kayla for the most intimidating student on campus, Jamie is calm, professional, and studious, not letting drama get to her. Will report when she sees something wrong, but will also offer a shoulder to lean on if necessary. Rumours state that her and Amanda are together, but Jamie has denied such allegations with a straight face.
Staff:
Mr Pines: Blackfield’s new principal after a dangerous incident prompted immediate action. Pines is a strict man who feels the situation only occurred because if the lax treatment of student misconduct. Despite his professional and oftentimes stiff attitude, a one on one conversation could make him more than meets the eye.
Other characters:
Annie: Billy’s old flame from before he moved to the city. Smart, clever, with an eye for opportunity, a lot of folks back home were surprised when she and Billy got together. When he moved out, a part of her was hurt, but she knew it would only be a matter of time until her parents moved as well. The city has plenty of opportunities, and she was always good with those.
Needles Kane: Blackfield’s urban legend. An enigma. People say he’s a delinquent, a dangerous person to encounter. There are rumours that he got sent to a boarding school, or even that he’s locked up in some detention facility. The only one who knows for sure is the man himself. And if you ever see that stringy orange hair and white clown mask at night, the last thing to worry about is getting answers.
(If you’re wondering where this came from, don’t worry, it’ll make sense soon.)

Courtney has been my crush since i first came across her and her now ex Tay's youtube channel. How problematic is she?
Ohhh Court is fine. Like... idk she's just a basketball player. She's not a politician, you know? She's not running for mayor or anything. So she's fine how she is lol.
As soon as her rookie contract with Connecticut expired, she moved to Atlanta. She found an Atlanta girlfriend. They went on an Atlanta youtube journey together. When in Rome, right? She was living the Atlanta lesbian dream while playing for the Dream as their resident all-star.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A few weeks into the 2021 Dream season there was the locker room fight. This really had nothing to do with Atlanta or youtube or girlfriends. Just two strong personalities with very different ideas about each others' roles on the team. Since Court was the veteran all-star player and Chennedy was the wild youngster, the team ruled in Court's favor. Chennedy was put in basketball purgatory or something.
Anyway, all was well after that. And then, in the final week of the Dream's season, Court and Tay decided to drop the chicken truck clickbait. They got in a scuffle with randos outside a chicken truck and recorded it. Naturally. Can't let good content go to waste. So they uploaded it and tagged the Dream in the youtube caption. Gotta make sure your clickbait is search-engine optimized, right? Anyway, the Dream wasn't happy about getting tagged in Court and Tay's trashy clickbait hustle. So, Courtney had a bit of a suspension situation. Well, more like an expulsion than a suspension. She was expelled from the Dream, more or less.
I guess you could call it... a wake up call 😂
So that was the end of her Atlanta journey. She dumped her Atlanta youtube girlfriend. She went on a total social media diet and shaved her head. She even went to USA basketball camp to work on her game.
Then she returned home to Connecticut training camp aka Curt Miller's casino for wayward lesbians. She was the biggest name in Atlanta, but she's like the forth or fifth biggest name in Connecticut. That's kind of why she left Connecticut for Atlanta in the first place. But she got all the youtube celebrity energy out of her system. So she's ready to rejoin coach Curt Miller's gay separatist basketball project.
instagram
Can Connecticut win a championship without even a token straight player? Curt Miller seems to think so. That's why he's been cutting or trading every straight player that comes through Connecticut over the last 5 years. He's a madman but he's also brilliant.

Upcoming DC Movies: Complete Release Calendar
https://ift.tt/3u2VfrU
The DC Extended Universe is in full swing! With a healthy schedule of upcoming DC movies in development, the DCEU isn’t going away anytime soon, and there’s still lots to look forward to.
So, it’s time to take a look at all of the DCEU superhero movies that will be released over the next few years. And trust us, there are a ton of them on the way, and we expect more details will be announced as we go forward. We have all the release dates for every one of ’em right here, as well as official details, the most interesting rumors, and suggestions for further reading where appropriate.
Thanks to HBO Max, Suicide Squad 2 is on schedule for August 2021, with The Batman, Shazam 2, Aquaman 2, and more due in 2022. There’s a bright future for the newly revitalized DCEU movies!
Here’s how this works, because the schedule is getting a little weird. We’re starting with the DCEU movies that officially have release dates attached to them. Then we’ll get into the stuff that we know for 100% certain is in development, but that don’t have release dates yet. Then we’ll get into some of the long shots, the projects that are announced but quiet or seemingly dead, at the bottom.
Keep in mind that many of these are the CURRENT release dates as of this update, and all of these are subject to change. We’ll keep updating this with more information as we get it…
Our first trailer. Warning: gore & adult language & supervillains & adventure & heart. Can't wait to see it in a theater with all of you on August 6. #TheSuicideSquad pic.twitter.com/HdqlGVP0lB
— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) March 26, 2021
Suicide Squad 2
Aug. 6, 2021
David Ayer going to be too busy with other projects until further notice, and none other than James Gunn (of Guardians of the Galaxy fame) has stepped in to write and direct Suicide Squad 2. This is now called The Suicide Squad, which indicates something of a soft reboot, but expect this to remain a DCEU movie.
The cast is positively bonkers.
Returning from the first film we have Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, and of course Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn Scheduling issues forced Will Smith to bow out of the project as Deadshot.
But then that new cast is wild! John Cena is Peacemaker, with Idris Elba as Bloodsport, David Dastmalchian will play Polka Dot Man. Daniela Melchor will play a genderswapped version of Batman villain Ratcatcher…and there’s more, including Sylvester Stallone as the voice of King Shark! We have a full breakdown of the cast right here.
Pandemic be damned, this one arrives on HBO Max AND in theaters simultaneously, so that August release date isn’t going anywhere.
The Batman
March 4, 2022
So, speaking of movies that had their release dates shifted because of the coronavirus pandemic, The Batman recently had to move from June to October of 2021 after its filming was put on hold fairly early on, and now it has had to vacate its October release slot for March of the following year, thanks to the aforementioned Dune reschedule, and also another production halt after star Robert Pattinson was diagnosed with Covid-19. Fortunately, principal photography has wrapped and this is now well on its way to meeting that release date!
The Batman solo movie has Matt Reeves as director. Robert Pattinson is the new Batman. Not only that, this movie will likely kick off a brand new trilogy of Batman movies. Expect a more low-key, detective focused approach to the Dark Knight than we’ve seen in previous movies.

The Actors Who Have Played Batman
By James Aquilone and 1 other
In addition to Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Jeffrey Wright will play Commissioner Gordon. Jayme Lawson has a mystery role. Andy Serkis is Alfred Pennyworth. And then there are the villains to contend with! The Batman will feature an all-star rogues’ gallery of villains, with Paul Dano as the Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
DC Super Pets
May 20, 2022
OK, fine, this isn’t a DCEU movie project, and it’s an animated movie. But unless you have no soul, how can you resist Krypto, Streaky, Ace, Comet, and the rest of the amazing super pets? They had better be fighting the Brain Globes of Rambat in this movie, otherwise, we riot.
You can read more about DC Super Pets here.
Black Adam
July 29, 2022
Originally slated to be the villain of Shazam, Black Adam will instead be played by Dwayne Johnson in a solo movie. The character is certainly strong enough to sustain his own movie. Adam Sztykiel (Due Date, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul) is writing with Jaume Collet-Serra set to direct.

Black Adam Powers and Abilities Explained
By Mike Cecchini
This is the kind of thing that could work as a nifty prequel to further flesh out the mystical world of Shazam if they choose to go that route. More importantly, this movie will feature the DCEU introduction of the Justice Society of America, including Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher!
We’re currently on the lookout for more info, but Black Adam is supposed to start filming in early 2021, which seems unlikely at this time because of the global coronavirus pandemic. This film had been scheduled for December of 2021, but lost that date with all of WB’s recent release date shuffles. It’ll happen, it’s just a question of when.
You can read a little more about the Black Adam movie here.
The Flash
Nov. 4, 2022
Andy Muschietti (of Warner Bros’ IT movies) is the latest director to try and get The Flash movie to the screen. This project has had a really rough road. Christina Hodson, who clearly made the studio happy with her Birds of Prey script, is writing.

Crisis On Infinite Earths Confirms DCEU Movies With Ezra Miller Cameo
By Kayti Burt
Ezra Miller will reprise his Justice League role as Barry Allen. Kiersey Clemons is Iris West. Ron Livingston will play Barry’s father, Dr. Henry Allen (replacing Billy Crudup who played the role in Justice League). But here’s where things get crazy…Ben Affleck will return to the role of Batman for this movie. And Michael Keaton will ALSO return to the role of Batman for this movie!
How is this possible? Because it’s based on the DC Comics Flashpoint story, which for the purposes of the movies will be used to create a big screen multiverse. Wow.
Oh, and it that’s not enough, this movie will introduce Supergirl to the DCEU, played by Sarah Calle!
This movie has had an extraordinary amount of trouble getting off the ground, so let’s see if the combination of Muschietti and Hodson keep this one on schedule for that release date. Or any release date. But pre-production is well underway, so it looks like Ezra Miller’s Barry will finally get his day in the sun.
Aquaman 2
Dec. 16, 2022
After it made a billion dollars at the box office, you bet your trident that Aquaman 2 is happening! Right now the plan is for James Wan to remain involved and start developing the movie, but he won’t decide whether or not to direct it until there’s a script in place. Fair enough. Patrick Wilson seems set to return, though, and of course, Jason Momoa will be back.
You can keep up with all our Aquaman 2 news right here.
Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods
June 2, 2023
Shazam 2 is now officially called Shazam: Fury of the Gods and…that’s about all we know about it right now.
One thing is for sure, though, this movie will retain the look, feel, and charm that made the first one so successful, since both director David F. Sandberg and writer Henry Gayden are returning. And this time we’ll have an entire Shazam family to help out!
Wait…did we mention the Sinbad cameo? No, really!
Now, let’s get into the projects that are in the works, but don’t have release dates yet. We’ve grouped these roughly in the order we expect to see them based on how far along they are.
Blue Beetle
There’s a Blue Beetle movie in the works. And unlike the character potentially appearing in the Booster Gold movie (more on that down below), this one would focus on Jaime Reyes, the magical tech powered teenage hero who wields the scarab of original Blue Beetle, Dan Garrett. Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Miss Bala) is writing the script, with Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) directing.
There’s no release date yet, but this is scheduled to begin production in fall 2021, so maybe we can pencil in a 2023 release date.
Read more about the Blue Beetle movie here.
Untitled Superman Project
Ta-Nehisi Coates is working on a Superman feature film with J.J. Abrams producing. No other info is currently available, but it appears to be a reboot.
“To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor,” Coates told Shadow and Act when the news was announced. “I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.”
Will this continue Henry Cavill’s time in the role, or will it take a new approach? Will this be a completely different take on the Man of Steel altogether? Time will tell!
Zatanna
One of the most powerful magicians in the DC Universe is getting her own film, with a powerful writer attached. Emerald Fennell, who wrote and directed the brilliant Promising Young Woman has signed on to write a Zatanna movie for Warner Bros. No other details are available at this time, but you don’t sign an Oscar hopeful for a movie like this unless you’re serious about getting it moving.
The New Gods
Ava DuVernay will direct a movie based on Jack Kirby‘s New Gods. It’s not clear yet whether this will fit into the continuity of the other DCEU movies, but really, it doesn’t need to. The New Gods is a cosmic story of such incredible scale that there’s no reason to try and connect this to earthbound concerns. Tom King, the DC Comics writer who has made waves with his work on the New Gods-centric (and Eisner Award-winning) Mister Miracle series, is co-writing the screenplay with DuVernay.
The New Gods is the story of two worlds, the warlike Apokolips and the peaceful New Genesis, each populated by immensely powerful beings with fantastic technology. Darkseid is the evil dictator of Apokolips, and he swaps sons with Highfather, the leader of New Genesis, and each child is raised on the opposite world. Darkseid’s son, Orion, becomes a troubled champion of New Genesis, while Highfather’s son (raised by Darkseid) revolts and becomes the super escape artist, Mister Miracle. This barely scratches the surface of what this movie is about. We tried to get into more detail about it here.
The Trench
Aquaman director James Wan and producer Peter Safran are working on developing other corners of Arthur’s world in addition to Aquaman 2. The Trench will focus on the terrifying piranha-like beasts seen briefly in the first film, and will be a smaller-scale, more horror-focused movie, and one that won’t feature any of the main characters from Aquaman. A different approach to superhero movie worldbuilding, for sure. Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald are writing.
Read more about The Trench here.
Supergirl
Oren Uziel is working on a script for a Supergirl movie. It’s not clear what kind of ties this will have to the currently dead Man of Steel franchise, especially given the uncertain state of Henry Cavill’s future as Superman.
But one thing is for sure, the DCEU does have their Supergirl! Sasha Calle will be introduced as Kara in The Flash movie, and presumably she’ll lead this one, as well.
Green Lantern Corps
Fairly or unfairly, Green Lantern has the most working against him. The 2011 film failed to kickstart the DC Universe as planned, and received a lukewarm (at best) critical and box-office reception. There are, of course, ways around this.

The Secret Origin of Green Lantern: Far Sector

Comics
New Green Lantern Series Expands Cosmic DC Universe
By Jim Dandy
One way is to simply not make Hal Jordan the central Green Lantern of the movie. Thisone may focus on as many as three Green Lanterns, with the main focus on a kind of buddy/cop movie with John Stewart and Hal Jordan. Geoff Johns is writing the script, but there’s no director in place yet, however Johns should be turning in his script soon and that will allow the director search to kick off in earnest. There’s also the recent announcement of an HBO Max Green Lantern TV show to consider. It remains to be seen what (if any) connection that will have to this movie.
We have more details on the Green Lantern Corps movie right here.
Plastic Man
This one is a little further off in the future as all they’ve done is hire a writer. But there is definitely a Plastic Man movie in the works, with Amanda Idoko (ABC’s The Mayor) working on a screenplay. We have some more details on it right here.
Blackhawk
Steven Spielberg has long wanted to make a Blackhawk movie, and he’s finally going to get his wish. And if it was your wish to see Steven Spielberg direct a DC movie, you’re also in luck. David Koepp is writing the screenplay. We have more details on this one here.
Batgirl
Joss Whedon was originally supposed to write, direct, and produce the Batgirl movie, one that was reportedly based on Gail Simone’s recent New 52 take on the character. He has exited the project and now Christina Hodson is writing. There is no director at the time of this writing, and rumor has it that this will be a project set to go direct to HBO Max.
Deathstroke
Joe Manganiello has long been cast as Slade Wilson, known to DC fans as Deathstroke. He even made a cameo in one of the Justice League theatrical post-credits scenes back when that was supposed to set up a Justice League 2 that never happened. But it turns out that the original version of that cameo in Zack Snyder’s Justice League was meant to set him up as the villain of The Batman solo movie (that is no longer the case),
Deathstroke was also once set to get a solo film, written and directed by The Raid‘s Gareth Evans. Despite Manganiello returning for a brief scene as Deathstroke in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it doesn’t seem likely that his solo film is happening anymore, which is a real shame as he would have been great in the role.
Justice League 2
Justice League 2 isn’t likely to happen at the moment given how the first film underperformed at the box office. It once had a release date, but that long since evaporated. Still, “The Snyder Cut” generated considerable buzz on HBO Max, and featured a teaser scene that was very much meant as a preview for what the director was looking for in his dark vision of Justice League 2.
Nightwing
The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay has been tapped to direct a Nightwing movie. Bill Dubuque (The Accountant) is working on a script. No other details are currently available, and this one doesn’t have a release date yet.
Justice League Dark
At one time this was called Dark Universe, until Universal came along and ruined that name with their failed horror movie shared franchise. This one will feature the supernatural characters from the DC Universe. Characters like Swamp Thing, Demon, Deadman, Zatanna, and even John Constantine.
Guillermo del Toro was attached to this one for quite some time, but had to leave the project. Then it was Doug Liman. Now J.J. Abrams is involved as producer for what will likely be an HBO Max series.
And now for the long shots…projects mentioned, rumored, or that haven’t had any movement in a while.
Man of Steel 2
Never officially announced, with no director or writer ever attached…another solo Superman movie starring Henry Cavill seems pretty unlikely at the moment. Especially considering that Henry Cavill appears to be finished as Superman, there’s an excellent Superman & Lois TV series on the air, and the aforementioned movie in the works from Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Cyborg
OK, to be perfectly honest, the Cyborg movie almost certainly isn’t happening. Ray Fisher made his first (very brief) appearance as Vic Stone/Cyborg in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and played a crucial role in Justice League. At one point he was supposed to feature in The Flash solo movie, too, but it’s not clear if that’s still the case.

Basically, though…let’s be completely real: this movie isn’t happening. There hasn’t been any movement on it in years, despite once having been assigned an April 3, 2020 release date. As far as we can tell there has been no additional movement on this movie in years. It’s probably dead. Too bad, since Ray Fisher was great in the role.
Harley Quinn
Yes, there’s also another Harley Quinn movie in development! Well, at least there was at one point. Whether this is a solo project or something else remains to be seen. Keep in mind that while very good, Birds of Prey didn’t set the world on fire at the box office, which means that Warner Bros. might be a little more wary than before about additional solo projects for Harley, even with Margot Robbie’s star power. As for what shape this movie was supposed to take in the first place, your guess is as good as ours!
Gotham City Sirens
David Ayer is looking to direct a Harley Quinn and friends “girl gang” movie. Geneva Robertson-Dworet is writing, with Margot Robbie producing. It’s not clear where this stands on anybody’s priority list these days. Ayer has moved on to other projects, and as mentioned above, Birds of Prey wasn’t quite the financial success that Warner Bros. had hoped for. It’s possible that Gotham City Sirens has been put in a drawer for the time being.
Booster Gold
Flash and Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti is going to executive produce and possibly direct a Booster Gold movie. Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class) will write the script.

Joker: 6 Actors Who Have Played the Clown Prince of Crime
By David Crow
Early reports described this as a “superhero buddy cop movie” that would involve Blue Beetle. We’ll get you more updates on this as they become available, but keep in mind there hasn’t been any movement on this in a long time, and the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle movie is probably taking priority for the studio.
Deadshot
Warner Bros. knows they have one of the biggest stars in the world already in costume, so they’re reportedly considering a Deadshot solo movie, as well. But with Smith now having left Suicide Squad 2 this project seems like it may not ever materialize. Unless, of course, switching Idris Elba’s role (he was originally intended as Smith’s replacement as Floyd) means they’re keeping the door open for him down the road.
Lobo
The Lobo movie may attempt to be the DCEU movies’ equivalent of Deadpool. Jason Fuchs must have impressed Warner Bros. with his work on Wonder Woman, because he’s on board to write the script for this one. Michael Bay might direct. But with Lobo appearing on Krypton season 2 and a TV series for the character that had once been put into development (but is probably dead), this might be less of a priority for the studio now.
We have some more info on the project here.
Joker & Harley Quinn Movie
At one point there was yet another Joker-centric flick in the works. This one, a Joker and Harley Quinn movie is absolutely part of the DCEU movie continuity would pick up where Suicide Squad left off. There are currently no additional details available on this one, either. This probably won’t happen, however.
Warner Bros. is very happy with how their R-rated, out of continuity Joker movie performed both critically and commercially, and with Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar win, it’s a safe bet that they’re at least quietly hoping to make him their definitive Clown Prince of Crime for the foreseeable future…even though Joker was never intended to be part of the DCEU.
Not to be confused with…
Jared Leto Joker Movie
Honestly, we’re having trouble keeping track of all these, but yes, there was also yet another Joker solo movie in development focusing on Jared Leto’s version of the character in the works at one point. Apparently, this has long been canceled, but we’re keeping it here to be safe for a little longer.

We’ll keep updating this with more information about upcoming DC superhero movies as they get announced and information becomes available.

Jayde's Secret Santa Gift (AU) 2020| Matt + Kristen
A/N: It’s a gift that’s SUPER late for my buddy @nevergoodenoughforthetruth and I hope she enjoys this! Love you boo!
Kristen couldn’t believe the insanity of Shayne. She had spent the night in holding, her hair never went back to its usual lay no matter how much she tried to finger through it so she wet the whole thing and threw it into a ponytail. Matt had risen out of his bed at three in the morning from Kristen’s only phone call, even though they hadn’t spoken in about two and a half years at this point. He threw a hat over his messy wavy hair with only a hoodie and old baggy skinny jeans and skate shoes and didn’t bother with putting in his contact lenses. He questioned everything about the call while he drove 3 hours downstate from his apartment in Nevada to Flagstaff, Arizona.
Matt knew from her voice this was the side of Kristen he usually didn’t see, but had heard what she meant. He knew that as much as she fought, she wouldn’t fight to come up empty-handed. She didn’t want anyone to tell her that she fell for the wrong one, even when it became blatantly apparent. Shayne picking up work with Smosh after they graduated was a godsend, the honeymoon phase in their relationship had been in full swing and her fight to keep their happiness shone brightest then. She wasn’t exactly there for Matt when Suzy finally dumped him to take Arin back, and for that he had held a grudge; however, it was Shayne who created the wedge. All of the sudden her brother was a burden on her happiness because her happiness was her relationship with Shayne. The blonde had made Kristen believe that no matter what Matt was trying to say it was a lie. If he could be comfortable lying to Gabbie, and he and Suzy lying to Gabbie together, which should have caused their severance before, what was to stop him from lying to her the entire time and being someone who’s just trying to get with her because she’s got a lot to be used for? It lit Kristen up to hear it from Shayne that Matt had been manipulating her like he had Gabbie and Suzy. She trusted him, but it twisted how she trusted Matt.
Kristen couldn’t believe that she trusted Shayne. He’d not only been cheating on her, but manipulated her and isolated her, using her aggression and fear of feelings to protect herself and being used by others against her. Now she had been used, now she had been wrong. Coming home to hearing those noises that she was familiar with, her Chicken Muffin barking profusely from the bathtub in the locked bathroom before her wide-open bathroom door.
Courtney Fucking Miller.
Kristen welcomed her into her life and, unknowingly, her relationship. The girl seemed so sweet and innocent, she liked her energetic appeal and her commitment to caring for someone. It was always too perfect that she took care of Shayne while working on set, but Kristen couldn’t while she was working on her own stuff, so maybe she was right to let it slide. She will never make that mistake again. Her style spoke volumes to the hours of conversation and lies she had with her that tainted her purely artistic mind and the other girl’s pure need to create and to be inspired to create.
Beating the absolute shit out of her made all of it worth it. All it took was for them to get sloppy with their lies. Red is usually never wrong. Red was the only thing that she could hear once Matt was gone even though she would hear them then, Blue would be louder:
She’s totally looking at him like that.
Friends don’t hug friends like that.
You’re fucking digusting for believing this scummy ass guy and his bitch.
You’re letting THIS...this fucking thing touch you.
Matt was a damn dog, you’re better off getting fleas than looking like the fool you are now.
She doesn’t respect you.
You should slap her in her stupid head.
Fucking stomp her out, you fucking idiot.
You’re going to end up alone, just because you’re so fucking stupid.
You’re a fucking idiot, I don’t even know why you bother.
You are doing the absolute WORST that you could do.
Moving in? Really?! You’re actually going to think this is worth it.
You deserve to be alone.
Kristen began taking more medications, prescribed to her by a bad therapist, to soften Red to a whisper. He said that it was simply an inferiority complex that branched out of her low self-esteem, so with time she will no longer hear it and it wouldn’t cause her such issues. She left the Youni with so much more and had healthier solutions
“So..what-”
“I fucking punched her. And kicked her, brother…” she laid on Matt’s couch, wearing an oversized wrestling t-shirt of his, some cute socks she was already wearing because she refused to get anything more from the larger man and not much else.
Why must you be so resistant? At least he answered your call.
He’s so sweet, taking pity on us. It’s the least he could do.
“I saw the police report and the release forms I had to sign had a pretty detailed section about your mental health state..I want to know what that asshole did to you,” Matt said gruffly, standing over her, smoking heavily through a pack of cigarettes.
“I thought you quit…” she said, watching the billows of smoke before holding her fingers up to take the cigarette.
He’s kinda cute with that rough look, the cigs are a nice touch.
Still no style, but that means a blank slate!
He’d be a great model. Maybe you two should do look books together.
“I thought we weren’t friends,” he said while exhaling and handing it to her, “You can finish that.”
“We aren’t...I just needed someone to post my bail-”
“You remembered my number..You didn’t call your parents..” he sighed, going over and attempting to bend down to pick up the girl’s legs as he sat as a way of excusing himself, but Kristen flinched before allowing him to take her ankles up and place them in his lap as he relaxed into his couch, “But sure, I’m not your friend.”
“You’re not…” Kristen said quickly, turning over. Her head beginning to fog up while her body was slipping, to keep it awake, she shifted and turned her body to the side, smoking lightly and ashing on his coffee table, “I did what I had to do...you know…”
“All I see that you did, Kristen, was get arrested for assault and battery..It wasn’t even on Shayne, it was on-”
“DOn’t...just don’t..please..” she begged, whipping her head to look at the man.
When did his beard get so long?
Gabbie had a point about his beard really complimenting his face.
When we model he’s going to have to cut it down, but it’s just so distinguishing.
“Fine...are you hungry?” he asked, lighting another cigarette.
“No..Too sick,” she responded.
“Guessing your buff prince charming wasn’t all he was cracked up to be-”
“GOD I said shut up, brother!” she snapped, yanking her legs and curling into a ball, allowing some tears to fall, “I know I’m fucking stupid…”
“So even though you had enough vulnerability to call me, you don’t want me to help you, feed you, take you back to your apartment, comfort you, or even know what happened? You do understand that you called me in the middle of the night-”
“I could tell you in the morning, I’ll have a plan in the morning, brother,” Kristen held her hand out for his other cigarette.
“Kristen..I’m worried..I’ve been worried. I don’t wanna see you like this..” he began meekly.
“You think I want you to see me like this?!” she snapped as she smoked and pushing her fingers through her hair for the 8th time.
“Well, you called me for a reason..you could at least tell me what you were thinking…” he said, looking at her as he handed her the cigarette after his puff, leaning over and sipping from the beer he left on the table. His heart was breaking while it sat in his stomach acid eroding it away. This was something he got to see a glimpse of when they were going to graduate, before all of this was an issue and Kristen was there for him. It was so welcoming and just what he needed, it was only fair to give it to her, even if she wasn’t going to tell him directly what was going on.
Kristen was in such a battle. Blue called Matt, Blue remembered his number, Red was silent but agreeing. She had proved that was going to handle herself for literally everyone. This is probably the plan: she was going to lay low with him for a few days while the media and the internet died down. She didn’t turn her phone on yet, so her family and friends couldn’t get to her. She gave herself until the morning to tell him or not, but she was going to have to tell him eventually. There was just something that still didn’t add up. Gabbie would have easily drove to get her. Ro would have done it no questions asked. She’d be more comfortable with them. Hell, she could call Mari or Olivia, or any woman she knew and they would have come and got her. Red had been the one who had needed to calm down and had made her ears ring to the point where she was nearly deaf. She had never been so angry and blacked out so quickly or so long. Now her heart was beating out of her chest. Now she was sweating and looked a mess. She was fine in holding all night and on the ride over to the police station. She didn’t care how she had looked, but now she’s stuck looking like all hell hit her in her ex-friend’s apartment during sunrise in southern Nevada. The sun was shining bright red-orange through his windows and curtains, and the girl was bathed in it as the man turned on the news.
Matt got up and went to his kitchen to start making breakfast, "You work today or anything?" He asked while he pulled a pan out of the cabinet and started cracking eggs into a cup, "You want some breakfast?"
"My phone is turned off..I had appointments but-" she started before sighing, still trying to curl into herself, realizing how much she always hated how cold Matt keeps his place, even in Nevada.
"Turn your phone on and cancel your appointments, Kristen… handle your business so you're clear-"
"It's fine brother-"
"Kristen I fucking swear to god," he snapped, slamming his fridge door, the drawers and his trash can lid.
"Can you make breakfast like you have neighbors and stop worrying about me so much…" She was starting to get frustrated with Blue and surprised that it could be so loud as just one voice when she usually wouldn't get above normal speaking volume, always getting drowned out by Red.
“Can you actually let me help you like you called me and asked me to do? I can just take you home, dude..I don’t need this,” he said exasperated. Matt knew how hard it was for Kristen to let someone help her, but now he didn't really care what her attitude and pride were trying to save her from.
"I..I dunno what I was thinking okay?!" She got up rushing to the kitchen nook, "You'd be up at 3-"
"You woke me up outta my sleep. I wasn't awake, dude..This isn't the Youni anymore!" He cut her off, then took a breath as he started to brew his coffee, turning around and leaning on the counter to face her, "Kristen. I know you're hurt and that you're kicking yourself for this, but...it's time to face facts: you fucked up. I know back in the day it was you telling me that I fucked up all the time, but life goes on, man...and you wanted yours to go on without me.."
"I shouldn't have said that," Kristen finally admits, trying to hide herself to avoid his gaze, "Sh...he made me do it..he told me that you'd screw me over just like Gabbie and like Suzy did...That you were just bidding your time until I'd end up like them..I didn't mean anything to you."
"Heh. Figures," Matt scoffed as he pulled another cigarette from his ear and lit it on the stove, "He had everyone fooled. I really thought that you'd been stronger than that, honestly..that isn't the first time something convinced you to see and believe something like that."
She walked closer with a shrug, rubbing the back of her neck as she held her hand out to take the cigarette, but instead she was met with the tall man's open arms. She fell into them for the first time in years. The girl could count on her hand how many times she hugged Matt and every time it was because of something she was wrong about. He was always so patient and welcoming, he took the time to understand her boundaries and knew when it was high time he passed through them. "I'm sorry...and thank you again..for...you know.."
"Anytime, darlin.." Matt said by accident, feeling his wife beater getting wet with her tears, knowing that she probably didn't care at the moment, closing her in and putting the stick out on the counter behind him, "I know...I know it hurts...so listen to me, okay?...You don't have to turn your phone on today, but tomorrow I need you to at least call your mother and your clients so you don't have to lose business." The girl nodded as she sniffles, whining quietly.
Kristen felt so safe in his arms, and she never got here unless she told him she wanted to be there.
You can’t act like this forever. He’ll just take you home.
He’s so considerate, and he’s got a point. However, you gotta do something.
Things are better already; you even stopped crying since you got out of the car.
Just tell him you’ll get to it after breakfast.
The fact that he knows about your business after you told him to kick rocks and suck a fat dick even if he doesn’t have one says a lot.
Matt broke away to start getting eggs and cracking them to scramble them in a bowl, “Now, I know it’s not the avocado toast with prosciutto you usually get for breakfast when we used to go out, but I hope eggs and bacon is fine.”
“You have sausage links?” she asked almost automatically, not realizing that she let herself speak.
“Uhhh does Italian sweet or hot work? I ran out a couple of days ago.”
“It’s fine. I’ll take the bacon,” she shrugged, then sighed as she jumped onto the counter, then scoffed, “You’re usually the one I’m taking you to breakfast. Since I usually get to my matters after that, then that’s...that’s what I’ll do.”
“Yeah, I know..even down to the tea spilling,” Matt said, then sighed at the realization, “Sorry for yelling at you.”
“It’s cool. I’m too stubborn for my own good,” Kristen replied, staring at him, “Sorry for making you get up in the middle of the night to pick me up.”
“Look, even if you don’t know why, you needed me. Not anyone else. That means something about our friendship..which has now survived some real war.”
“You called that war? I wouldn’t call it that. I’d call it..uhh...me getting swept up into this dream that some muscly guy tried to sell me and then use...very unsavory levels of manipulation to...isolate me and make me look like a fucking fool..what are you even doing in Nevada anyway?” she asked, trying to gesticulate as he handed her a complete cup of coffee and allowing her to smell it and take in its scent.
“Just kinda ended up here. Wanted to stay close to LA to try my hand at direction and stuff, then my channel fucked me over when it got hacked, so I’ve just been doing work for other people...and I took your advice and been mostly riding solo and commuting to work here and there and sold my channel and I still get some profit from letting techies run it,” he mentioned while he continued to cook.
“Wow..just your main channel?” Kristen asked, shocked.
“Yeah, but I have a whole second channel for blogs and I work on a few other peoples’ channels so it’s not like I’m broke,” Matt shrugged sounding exhausted, “I’ve been kinda circling in your realm at times and people referred your services to me, but I just knew that I was the last person you wanted to see.”
They shared a isolated giggle while he plated their food and handed her a plate. Matt leans over and kisses the girl on the forehead, but feels something pull on his wifebeater before pulling away. He looks down to see her hand gripping the fabric, then looks back into the girl’s eyes, “Thanks for breakfast..and I’m thirsty so do you have orange juice or something?” The look makes him weak, but he refocuses himself.
“But..I just made you coffee,” he says with a nervous chuckle.
“Oh..uhh..yeah, you’re right..maybe it’s too hot and I need a tall glass of orange juice..” she says with a shrug.
Not what I had planned, but are you actually doing what I think you’re doing?
You’re flirting with him, but why?
You’re desperate. You’re not thinking straight. You know that he feels a certain way about you, maybe you should think about this a little more.
On the other hand, he does look really nice and he’s been an absolute peach this entire time, and he smells so...
“Kristen, uhh..maybe you should-...are you feeling okay?” Matt asked, taking his hand up to remove hers from his shirt. To his surprise she contorts and intertwines her fingers with his, “Your food’s getting cold, now, maybe you need to-”
“You’ve always been so nice to me, even when I’ve been an absolute bitch…” she says, finally making her voice softer, revealing how vulnerable he actually made her as he brings her hand down to the counter.
“Yeah, I mean, I know what I signed up for..but you’ve been through a traumatic experience..I-I don’t think you understand-” he attempts to let her down gently.
“I don’t think I’ve..been..completely honest with myself about what I need you for..” she sighed, looking down at her hand and pulling his fabric again with more force, bringing him closer between her legs, “How I feel about you..what I think when it came to..how...fucking angry I was when Suzy played you..the fact that I allowed Gabbie to fuck up your life like that...Like I just..I dunno...but that hug was so...and every hug you’ve given me..it’s different.”
“Different..?” he asked, eyes darting down and back to her eyes as she explained, then shifting as he furrowed his eyebrows, “Different how?” he brought his hand up to caress her cheek, which she leaned into and and wrapped her legs around his waist, “Oh..that different..uhh..I don’t...I really wouldn’t...I don’t think I can handle this..I thought I was your brother to you..we’ve...always been siblings to you-”
“I know...but siblings don’t look at me the way you used to look at me. I ignored it. I just...I thought it would go away-”
“Can we like..drop this incest thing because...because uhh...it’s not right and it’s kinda classist given that I’m from the south and would never fuck Holly or Raven,” he said quickly as he finally decided to lean into her caressing her hand with his thumb. They share a giggle, “So...you do like me like that?..I thought the idea disgusted you..”
“All of this..everything..ever since you didn’t fight about Sh..him...I realized I might have been going about this differently wrong,” she shook her head when she corrected herself, and went back up to those eyes bathed in the desert morning light, “Maybe I should have..given it more thought..”
“You’ve given it more thought?” he asked, waiting and beginning to tremble at her words, becoming more nervous at the realization that he might be getting setup until she pulls him by his neck to kiss him on the lips, deepening quick.
~
Kristen leans over and lights his last cigarette as they laid together on his couch, kissing his head, “You should go back to quitting,” she said as she finished her drag.
“Then you’ll be the reason I quit..cus that’s my last pack,” Matt chidded as he kissed her forehead.
“I’ll gladly be that reason...so...what now?..I didn’t exactly...plan for this. This changes a lot of things,” Kristen said as she expressed her dissonance in her glow.
“I’m gonna guess you haven’t planned anything for the past like..week. And..this doesn’t have to change anything if you don’t want it to..” he said, shifting so that he sat up and she straddled his waist, taking the cigarette, “I gotta tell the girl I’ve been seeing to buzz off, but she’s been super flighty anyway, so that won’t be that hard..uhhh, there’s a reunion party-”
“Oh fuck! I forgot about that! I’m supposed to be helping submit the theme next week to Ro-”
“Right..there’s that and you’re supposed to show up with..not just me, but..honestly I don’t feel like going-”
“You’re going, brother.”
“I’ve been fucking you for 2 hours, can you not call me brother?”
“Matthew! Whatever! Ugh, I completely forgot about that…”
“I’m pretty sure you’ve gotta go back to Arizona and work out all of that legal shit and PR about the fact that you got arrested for aggravated assault..if you want I can contact you with my lawyer..she’s really good,” he said ashing and covering her with the throw blanket lazily.
“Wait, your lawyer’s a woman?”
“Yeah. I have a woman lawyer, she got the job done and won my family’s case for me…”
“Speaking of...why aren’t you with them?”
“They don’t really need me. I’d been away and getting better for so long that my auntie just took over custody and Holly is turning 18 soon, so she said she’d take over for Raven with an emancipation stipend...it was a lot of paperwork and I already did my appearances in court...You don’t have to go with me for Thanksgiving or Christmas or anything..” he explained.
“Okay..so yes to the lawyer..yes to the holidays…”
“Don’t forget that you still have to tell your clients you’ll be taking a little longer with your consults given all of this- and you never got to breakfast-”
“What time is it?” she asked, looking around for his phone and picking it up off of the coffee table, “Fuck..”
“Just tell your clients today and you can deal with everything else tomorrow...your coffee’s cold and I’m already thinking about lunch,” he mentioned.
“Yeah...so..you’re not busy today?”
“First day off in a few weeks...and I’m spending it getting your life together..” he said, causing her to slap him and he leans up to grab her face gently and kiss her on the lips, “Kinda worth..I was just gonna play games all day..and go food shopping..”

Women’s History Month began as a week-long celebration in Sonoma, California in 1978 which was centered around International Women’s Day on March 8. A year later during a women’s history conference at Sarah Lawrence College, participants learned how successful the week was and decided to initiate similar in their own areas. President Carter issued the first proclamation for a national Women’s History Week in 1980. In 1987, Congress (after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project) passed Pub. L. 100-9 designating March as Women’s History Month. U.S. Presidents have issued proclamations on Women’s History Month since 1988.
The University of Central Florida community joins together to celebrate Women’s History Month across multiple campuses with a wide variety of activities including the Women in STEM @ UCF panel discussion, a special screening of the student-produced film, Filthy Dreamers, and WomanFest 2020. You can also view the Women First at UCF Project on the display wall at the John C. Hitt Library. The project was a collaboration between UCF Libraries Special Collections and University Archives, Dr. M.C. Santana from the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, and Dr. Robert Cassanello from the Department of History. Full details about the project, exhibit reception information and the UCF Celebrates the Arts Panel can be found on the Libraries blog.
Here at the UCF Libraries, we have created a list of books about women, both history and fiction, suggested by staff. Please click on the read more link below to see the full book list with descriptions and catalog links. And don’t forget to stop by the John C. Hitt Library to browse the featured bookshelf on the 2nd (main) floor near the bank of two elevators for additional Women’s History Month books and DVDs.
Backwards and in Heels: the past, present and future of women working in film by Alicia Malone Women have been instrumental in the success of American cinema since its very beginning. One of the first people to ever pick up a motion picture camera was a woman. As was the first screenwriter to win two Academy Awards, the inventor of the boom microphone and the first person to be credited with the title Film Editor. Throughout the entire history of Hollywood women have been revolutionizing, innovating, and shaping how we make movies. Yet their stories are rarely shared. Film reporter Alicia Malone tells the history of women in film in a different way, with stories about incredible ladies who made their mark throughout each era of Hollywood. From the first women directors, to the iconic movie stars, and present-day activists. Each of these stories are inspiring in the accomplishments of women, and they also highlight the specific obstacles women have had to face. Suggested by Richard Harrison, Research & Information Services
Burn it Down: women writing about anger edited by Lilly Dancyger A rich, nuanced exploration of women's anger from a diverse group of writers. Women are furious, and we're not keeping it to ourselves any longer. We're expected to be composed and compliant, but in a world that would strip us of our rights, disparage our contributions, and deny us a seat at the table of authority, we're no longer willing to quietly seethe behind tight smiles. We're ready to burn it all down. Suggested by Megan Haught, Student Learning & Engagement/Research & Information Services
Dreaming in French: the Paris years of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, Susan Sontag, and Angela Davis by Alice Kaplan A year in Paris . . . since World War II, countless American students have been lured by that vision—and been transformed by their sojourn in the City of Light.  Dreaming in French tells three stories of that experience, and how it changed the lives of three extraordinary American women. Suggested by Richard Harrison, Research & Information Services
Fair Labor Lawyer: the remarkable life of New Deal attorney and Supreme Court Advocate Bessie Margolin by Marlene Trestman Through a life that spanned every decade of the twentieth century, Supreme Court advocate Bessie Margolin shaped modern American labor policy while creating a place for female lawyers in the nation's highest courts. Despite her beginnings in an orphanage and her rare position as a southern, Jewish woman pursuing a legal profession, Margolin became an important and influential Supreme Court advocate. Suggested by Richard Harrison, Research & Information Services
Hill Women: finding family and a way forward in the Appalachian Mountains by Cassie Chambers Appalachian women face issues that are all too common: domestic violence, the opioid crisis, a world that seems more divided by the day. But they are also community leaders, keeping their towns together in the face of a system that continually fails them. With nuance and heart, Chambers uses these women’s stories paired with her own journey to break down the myth of the hillbilly and illuminate a region whose poor communities, especially women, can lead it into the future. Suggested by Anna Dvorecky, Cataloging
Invisible: the forgotten story of the black woman lawyer who took down America's most powerful mobster by Stephen L. Carter Eunice Hunton Carter, Stephen Carter’s grandmother, was raised in a world of stultifying expectations about race and gender, yet by the 1940s, her professional and political successes had made her one of the most famous black women in America. But her triumphs were shadowed by prejudice and tragedy. Greatly complicating her rise was her difficult relationship with her younger brother, Alphaeus, an avowed Communist who—together with his friend Dashiell Hammett—would go to prison during the McCarthy era. Yet she remained unbowed. Suggested by Katy Miller, Student Learning & Engagement
Lactivism: how feminists and fundamentalists, hippies and yuppies, and physicians and politicians made breastfeeding big business and bad policy by Courtney Jung Political scientist Courtney Jung offers the most deeply researched and far-reaching critique of breastfeeding advocacy to date. Drawing on her own experience as a devoted mother who breastfed her two children and her expertise as a social scientist, Jung investigates the benefits of breastfeeding and asks why so many people across the political spectrum are passionately invested in promoting it, even as its health benefits have been persuasively challenged. What emerges is an eye-opening story about class and race in America, the big business of breastfeeding, and the fraught politics of contemporary motherhood. Suggested by Sandy Avila, Research & Information Services
My Antonia by Willa Cather Set in rural Nebraska, Willa Cather’s book is both the story of an enduring friendship and a brilliant portrayal of the lives of rural pioneers in the late-nineteenth century. Suggested by Larry Cooperman, Research & Information Services
My Own Words by Ruth Bader Ginsburg with Mary Hartnett and Wendy W. Williams In this collection, Justice Ginsburg discusses gender equality, the workings of the Supreme Court, being Jewish, law and lawyers in opera, and the value of looking beyond US shores when interpreting the US Constitution. This book’s sampling is selected by Justice Ginsburg and her authorized biographers Mary Hartnett and Wendy W. Williams, who introduce each chapter and provide biographical context and quotes gleaned from hundreds of interviews they have conducted. Suggested by Sandy Avila, Research & Information Services
Text Me When You Get Home: the evolution and triumph of modern female friendship by Kayleen Schaefer journalist Kayleen Schaefer interviews more than one hundred women about their BFFs, soulmates, girl gangs, and queens while tracing this cultural shift through the lens of pop culture. Our love for each other is reflected in Abbi and Ilana, Issa and Molly, #squadgoals, the acclaim of Girls Trip and Big Little Lies, and Galentine’s Day.
Suggested by Megan Haught, Student Learning & Engagement/Research & Information Services
The Alice Network by Kate Quinn In an enthralling new historical novel from national bestselling author Kate Quinn, two women—a female spy recruited to the real-life Alice Network in France during World War I and an unconventional American socialite searching for her cousin in 1947—are brought together in a mesmerizing story of courage and redemption. Suggested by Kelly Young, Administration
The Future is Feminist: radical, funny, and inspiring writing by women edited by Mallory Farrugia A star-studded roster of iconic women write powerfully about what it means to be a feminist yesterday, today, and tomorrow. These poets, essayists, activists, actors, and professors address topics ranging from workplace harassment to resting bitch face. The results are by turns refreshing, provocative, moving, and hilarious. A diverse chorus of intersectional voices and a forward-looking stance set this book apart. It's the smart, covetable anthology that women of all ages will turn to for support and inspiration in the ongoing fight for gender equality. Suggested by Jada Reyes, Research & Information Services
The Making of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein by Daisy Hay Frankenstein was inspired by the extraordinary people surrounding the eighteen-year-old author and by the places and historical dramas that formed the backdrop of her youth. Featuring manuscripts, portraits, illustrations, and artifacts, this work explores the novel’s time and place, the people who inspired its characters, the relics of its long afterlife, and the notebooks in which it was created. Hay strips Frankenstein back to its constituent parts to reveal an uneven novel written by a young woman deeply engaged in the process of working out what she thought about the pressing issues of her time: from science, politics, religion, and slavery to maternity, the imagination, creativity, and community. Suggested by Jada Reyes, Research & Information Services
The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict In the tradition of The Paris Wife and Mrs. Poe, this book offers us a window into a brilliant, fascinating woman whose light was lost in Einstein's enormous shadow. It is the story of Einstein's wife, a brilliant physicist in her own right, whose contribution to the special theory of relativity is hotly debated and may have been inspired by her own profound and very personal insight. Suggested by Kelly Young, Administration
The Women Who Flew for Hitler: a true story of soaring ambition and searing rivalry by Clare Mulley Hanna Reitsch and Melitta von Stauffenberg were talented, courageous, and strikingly attractive women who fought convention to make their names in the male-dominated field of flight in 1930s Germany. With the war, both became pioneering test pilots and were awarded the Iron Cross for service to the Third Reich. But they could not have been more different and neither woman had a good word to say for the other. Suggested by Kelly Young, Administration
Womanish: a grown black woman speaks on love and life by Kim McLarin Searing in its emotional honesty, this essay collection explores what it means to be a black woman in today’s turbulent times. Writing with candor, wit and vulnerability on topics including dating after divorce, depression, parenting older children, the Obama’s, and the often fraught relations between white and black women, McLarin unveils herself at the crossroads of being black, female and middle-aged, and, ultimately, American. Powerful and timely, it draws upon a lifetime of experiences to paint a portrait of a black woman trying to come to terms with the world around her, and of a society trying to come to terms with black women. Suggested by Megan Haught, Student Learning & Engagement/Research & Information Services
