CR2E91-Stone to Clay

Ok wow Essek I am finally understanding what folks were seeing in you. There’s something so genuinely sweet and awkward about how Matt is playing him here. I am now 100% more sad that he’s gonna break all the Niens hearts

All the questions about the Luxon and the Beacon are all my questions. Including wtf is happening to those consecuted people in the bodies of empire humans! Do they miss their birth families? How tf must that feel? Could they still possibly hold biases against empire folks? and they were probably raised to be racist against the Krynn, too! How in the world do you reconcile that in a head. It must be nuts.

I am a fan of Jeff, I think we should get him back on the show some time. I love how genuinely Fjord was actually able to help Jester work her pitch out for herself. We love to see that emotional honesty!!

speaking of emotions, Caleb and Jester is so sweet! I know people ship them but tbh I tend to ship Jester mostly with internal emotional self-actualization, and I very much love how tender they can still be with a close platonic relationship here. 

Umm Caduceus and Yasha?!? My heart?? I love their relationship and how inexplicably well they blend together, and the concept of them just making each other feel safe in the same room just kills me.

 I feel like this is the correct place to plug One of my favorite CR fics ever, at last and too soon, which is centered around Clay getting sick and the m9 taking care of/questing for a cure for him. It’s got entire chapters just made of the best parts of that moment between Yasha and Cad, and also some really neat qpr fjordclay that writes cad well as aro/ace. Yasha smells like a crayon, and is very quickly becoming one of my favorites. She reminds me of a friend of mine who’s also really quiet but then ten times funnier than anyone else when they do step in.

I love the mental image of Caleb picking up Nott and dancing her around their lab together. There’s so much trust and casual physicality to their relationship, even now. They just have fun together!

I was just listening along, happy as a clam, and then BLAM! This is happening? I know she’s not Veth till much laterZ?? Whats goin on? 

This is the infamous NOTT KISSES CALEB ON THE LIPS scene, and I didn’t know that it wasn’t the same as the “i-love-yous” scene. 

Also, I see art and gifs of the “devoting yourself to me” part of the convo, but I’d never seen Caleb tell Nott that she only exists in her mind and heart, which was such an incredible moment and I was completely crying?? Why have I never seen anyone talking about those lines specifically? Not even w in Widowbrave circles really. Ya’ll are sleeping on good stuff, but I guess I’m glad cause I got to absorb those lines unspoiled

AAH its time for the Hag lady, Isharni or smth, right? I have been SOO looking forward to this section! It’s another that I’ve seen enough about to get hyped, but not so much that there won’t be a lot of surprise left.

caleb picks nott up like he’s done it before.

essek does not remember if his mother would hold him. he imagines not— such distraction cannot be demanded of the umavi. of the illustrious den thelyss.

he learned to walk quietly so fast, so young— the noise bothered the umavi if he ran, if he fell. if he cried. his father taught him to float not much older— he learned so fast, his father had said to him. so smart.

but it was a parlor trick— his father would use it to scare the umavi— his mother, he used to call her that more, what changed, when did they break so completely— drawing up behind her when she was hard at work and surprising her, using the disruption to draw her away and towards essek.

when he first started to float again, weeks after the search party had returned, it made her smile, if sadly. now, the umavi does not blink.

(what they don’t understand, he thinks, watching the mighty nein watch his feet touch the ground, is that no one else does it. that i would stop, if i could.)

that all is to say, the last time the umavi held essek was at his father’s funeral. he will come back, essek did not tell her, because it was not true. it was the last time anyone held him, until caleb pulls him in, too, scattering their papers so very haphazardly for what it is they bear.

caleb widogast, child of the empire, failed assassin with his lilting voice and his long red hair and his blue blue eyes, holds essek for the first time in a century. he smells of dust, of desperate sweat, of chocolate and of cat.

essek does not move. in his mind he holds on so tight his fingers pale. in his mind caleb widogast, failed assassin and failure in absolutely nothing besides, holds onto essek’s hand as they descend the stairs, and the expositor scrutinizes all she wishes.

in his mind they do not ask him to take them away from him. in his mind they ask if he would like to come.

in his mind he sits under the shade of that strange, strange tree. there is a cat curling and uncurling its strange little paws in his cloak. there is a harp, and beyond it the rumble of happy voices. the sounds of home.
