people rightfully make fun of ken penders a lot but how come barely anybody complains about how he thinks of himself as this creative genius when most of his characters are just recolors or already existing characters with barely changed designs but they're actually from an alternate universe or their child or parent or whatever. the only character of his that a lot of people actually like is scourge but people only like him based on what other writers and artists did with him. hell he didn't even make the design or name that everyone associates with scourge the original version of the character penders made is just. evil sonic with a leather jacket and sunglasses. yet he still takes credit for all those other people's work and makes money off the green design specifically. exploding him with my mind

the problem with AI is that it sucks shit but its benefits are actually tangible; every idiot on the block wanted a piece of NFTs and crypto but they still died quickly because they just didn't have legs to get anywhere beyond the immediate unspecific hype, but companies very much can lay off a bunch of artists and writers who take days or weeks or months to work and replace them with a guy who can shit out AI trash in five minutes

Love how NFTs were supposed to be used with anything and everything (virtually anything can be a "non-fungible token", whatever that means) but it got especifically and irremovably associated with the most cringe art style of all time

god it also bothers me that a lot of artists i admire, as much as they are against the system, still use ai which is the very thing that is being used against artists rn

Absolutely comical seeing an article proclaim that a games company spent 90k on AI art because the quality is unmatched, only to find its generic mobile game slop and the game itself is built on the blockchain. Crypto crashed and now crypto shills are merging more buzzwords into their projects to generate more interest.

Id be curious how many people are actually playing an NFT card game versus how many people bought cards as an investment, cus its obviously gonna be the next big thing.

Did any of them hear about hearthstone, or infinity wars, or chaotic or artefact or any number of the other digital card games with digital card ownership, some of them even had digital trading and marketplace without using the blockchain...

Or even Altered, the real life tcg releasing later this year which uses QR codes for digital ownership (not the blockchain), has a no AI pledge and was, if I recall, the biggest fucking card game on Kickstarter of all time.

But Natsume makes a point ab "maybe Mika just likes being paid for his work" cuz that's also something I was wondering ab in regards to this story. Mika also grew up in poverty, he didn't want to feel like a freeloader so he worked even tho his parents (still up for interpretation) were literally paying Shu's family for accomodation, he worked part-time jobs all throughout ! era to keep Valkyrie afloat. I do think Mika got charmed by the idea of being paid for doing what he likes. </3

honestly i dont even think its inherently unreasonable of penders to want legal ownership of his characters and stories. it feels like he gets a lot of hate just for that when the real problem is his behavior and certain things he tries to claim ownership of. and im not defending him it just feels like people hate him for the wrong reasons sometimes

if you follow me and make or support ai "art", i hope you get hit by a transport truck and fucking die. there is literally no reason as to why you cannot pick up a pen or pencil or paintbrush or cheap drawing tablet and start to learn how to make your own art. humans didn't didn't fucking spend over 40,000 years improving on their physical art skills just for some lazy asshole to plug someone else's art into a program and pass it off as their own. so stop being a fucking cowardly thief, and start actually making something meaningful with your own bare hands because shitty art is infinitely better than stolen art.
