Create 1

This is how the multiverse works:

It’s like planting a whole bunch of seeds in a bunch of random crazy places you would never normally plant a seed, and a couple places you would, and watching them all either die or sprout. And the ones that sprout, those are the ones for which things suddenly get crazy complicated. Because the one you planted in a pot and out on your windowsill, you’d think that one was safe and sound, right? Wrong.

That one the temperature skyrocketed and the soil dried up, there was a fire in your house that burned that plant up, that one there was a genetic defect with the plant and it just stopped growing after a time, that one the snow covered and froze it completely, that one had just the perfect genes and the perfect temperature and the perfect rainfall and now it’s taking over your windowsill, that one never got sun because of the massive pine tree right outside your window and shriveled.

And that’s just counting the ‘natural’ things that could happen to it.

Maybe aphids got inside your home and started chewing it up. Maybe your cat got onto your windowsill and accidentally pushed the pot off and now there’s clay and soil all over your floor. Maybe your niece was visiting and decided to use your plant to play ‘he loves me he loves me not’ but it hadn’t bloomed yet so instead of petals she used leaves. Maybe dandelion seeds blew into the pot’s soil and the little weeds are choking your poor plant to death. Maybe broke up with your jerk boyfriend so he threw your plant out the window in revenge.

There are a hell of a lot of things that can go wrong with a universe, as you can see.

Then there are people like me. Weirdos who got shaken out of the fabric of reality, through one way or another. We’re called Wanderers. A whole bunch of us went completely insane, since we kind of realized how teensy tiny we are compared to the entire multiverse, instead of just the universe. I mean, I think everyone knows that on some level, but lucky us we get to experience it first hand, up close and personal. Or maybe it’s seeing just how often universes die for whatever reason.

Those of us Wanderers who didn’t go absolutely crazy, we just sort of do our own thing, I guess? Some of us formed this group, they want to preserve as many universes as possible or something. I think they call themselves Guardian Angels or something equally cheesy. Honestly I don’t like them, half are cheesy and corny and the other half are really self righteous. They’d describe themselves as being the guys who garden the plants. The one who waters your plant, who prunes your plant, who buys fancy schmancy fertilizers, who releases ladybugs into your home to get rid of the aphids and you keep finding ladybugs in your cupboards weeks later, who douse your plant in pesticides until your whole house stinks.

I try to stay far away from those idiots. They sound like good guys, but honestly they’re not. They’re barely even an organized team. Some of them only do this so they can get universes indebted to them, so they can call in crazy favors and get all the adulation they want. Others just save all the universes they can, without regard for if the universe deserves to be saved, deserves a mercy killing, or needs to be destroyed so it doesn’t cause more damage. Sometimes I hear about in-fighting between the so-called ‘Guardian Angels’, idealistic newbies lashing out at the more selfish ones.

...I guess that overall, you can just sum up the multiverse with the words ‘crazy complicated’. Not sure why I kept rambling, if I could just say those two words.

First page of Create. Woo. Our narrator is currently unnamed. And ungendered. And salty about the multiverse and these 'Guardian Angel' people. And apparently likes overblown gardening metaphors. Maybe it's just because I'm female and this was basically me rambling about multiverse headcanons, but at some point I started thinking of the narrator as female. I think they're more salty than I am, though. Welp. Stay tuned for tomorrow, when we learn more about the Create universe, and may or may not learn who exactly this narrator person is. Maybe.
