Stray Kids with an S/O who is a huge horror movie fan

a/n: as a huge horror movie fan myself, I had to write this! enjoy!🩷

Chan:

As he said before, it's not like he's scared of horror movies, he just doesn't think they're interesting to watch. But, you're interesting to him and he loves you so he will definitely try for you. He also thinks he won't get scared cause 'nothing scares him' but oh boy was he wrong. You have to promise him extra cuddles because he's not gonna be able to fall asleep that night. Will also try to dissect the plot with you after the movie, and try to find meaning in the story just so it's less scary to him.

If he was never really invested into the horror genre, you could show him the classics like The Shining(1980), The Omen(1976), The Amityville Horror (1979), Psycho(1960) and then also some newer iconic movies like Get Out(2017), The Ring(2002), Sinister(2012), Hereditary(2018) and The Conjuring(2013).

Minho:

Loves it. Loves to try and scare you while you're watching a movie together. At first, you're so happy that you can share your love for horror with your significant other. And you know he really doesn't like jumpscares, so you try to find movies that don't have many of those. But if they do and Minho predicts a jumpscare, he'll grab you at the same time it's happening, making you jump out of your skin even though you saw the movie already. You kinda start regretting watching horror movies with him because he annoys you on purpose. He thinks you're so adorable when you're mad at him, but he wont push too far and he'll always make it up with cuddles and kisses later. Overall, 10/10 experience.

I feel like he'd watch almost any horror movie cause he's a curious cat (hehe) and you'd both share your favorites.

I don't know why, but I also feel like Minho would appreciate good old silent horror movies. I just think if he's a horror fan he may enjoy seeing the roots of horror. Like The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari(1920), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde(1920), The Phantom Carriage(1921), Nosferatu(1922) and Häxan(1922).

Changbin:

I don't think he's too scared of them but I think he doesn't really care for them too much? Though, if you have some interesting thriller or detective movies to recommend he will definitely wanna watch them with you. I think Changbin likes a movie that has an intelligent story with a plot twist. He likes to guess what's gonna happen next and when he's actually right he'll be so happy and proud. He'll keep talking about how he guessed the plot and how smart he is and how you have to give him extra cuddles now. Either way, you're cuddling and snacking the whole time while watching and it's just nice and cozy.

I think he'd enjoy thrillers like The Game(1997), Fracture(2007), The Machinist(2004), The Double(2013), Shutter Island(2010), Zodiac(2007) and 1408(2007).

Hyunjin:

Miss him with that shit cause he ain't watching it unless you manage to coax him into it. It's gonna take a lot of persuading until he finally gives in but you have to be careful in choosing the right movie for Hyunjin. He doesn't like loud noises and he doesn't really like to feel scared. He'd rather watch something for the story, especially if it's an emotional one, and he also likes character driven stories.

I think he could watch artsy or slow creepy movies that are more drama-like but have elements of horror like Pan's Labyrinth(2006), Dark Water(2005), Windchill(2007), It Follows(2014), The Eyes Of My Mother(2016), I'm Thinking Of Ending Things(2020) and Case 39(2009).

Jisung:

Okay, with this one you can go crazy. Any weird horror movie, anything kinda disturbing, deranged or unhinged will be right up his ally. As a horror and anime fan himself, he's seen some pretty weird stuff so experiment, I guess. I also feel like he'd like fun horror movies, idk how to explain but ones that are disturbing but fun at the same time, like you can't look away even though you're looking at a train wreck.

Movies like Funny Games(2007), The Ruins(2008), Suspiria(1977), The Perfection(2018), Perfect Blue(1997), May(2002), Audition(2000), Saw franchise and Terrifier series would be fun for him. Also, since he mentioned Paranormal Activity, found footage horror movies would be fun to watch with Jisung too like Creep(2014), REC(2007), Unfriended(2015) and Cloverfield(2008).

Felix:

This is just not happening unless you can bribe him with cookies, gummies or any other sweets and ofcourse many cuddles and kisses, even more than you share usually. You'll have to practically beg him to watch a horror movie with you or make some kind of compromise that you'll participate in some activity he likes more than you later. He's not gonna sleep all night if you make him watch anything too scary, actually he wouldn't even be watching that. He'd probably be hidden in your neck the whole time and even the creepy sounds coming from the tv will give him nightmares.

The only way to make him watch horror movies is if they're mixed with comedy or they're so bad that they're funny. Like the Scream franchise, The Cabin In The Woods(2011), What We Do In The Shadows(2014), The Happening(2008), Tucker & Dale vs. Evil(2010), Housebound(2014) and ofcourse zombie comedies like One Cut Of The Dead(2017) and Shaun Of The Dead(2004).

Seungmin:

Kind of indifferent towards the scares but I think he gets annoyed with plot holes and characters acting stupid. Rolls his eyes at every over used trope or cliche sentence. You actually end up laughing while watching horror movies with him because he's too cute when he's annoyed.

"How is this killer still alive? He's been run over by a truck ten times, this is stupid!" or "Okay but why is he going towards the sound? Is he that dumb, he's gonna die!"

He does like dry humor though so he'd like some black comedy movies with horror elements like American Psycho(2000), Parasite(2019), The Lobster(2015), The Menu(2022) but also if you want to annoy him on purpose (because he's cute when he gets worked up) show him slashers like the Halloween franchise, Friday the 13th franchise and Black Christmas(2019).

Jeongin:

With Jeongin, I feel like it can go either way and it definitely depends on the theme of the movie. Also, he will probably try to act brave in front of you (until he jumps at a loud sound and then gets embarassed). For some reason I don't have an exact subgenre of horror for him but for some reason I feel like he'd like newer horror movies like Us(2019), Nope(2022), Last Night In Soho(2021), His House(2020), Host(2020), The Invisible Man(2020) and Fear Street film series.

"Keep up!" Hyunjin teased his twin sister Y/N as they raced up the stairs in the apartment block.

"What, is, wrong, with, you?" Y/N huffed as she trailed behind, only a few steps of course but that didn't mean she'd give up.

"There is nothing wrong with wanting my sister to see where I live!" Hyunjin raises a brow whilst stood hunched over, catching his breath as the palms of his hands rested on his knees.

"Not with that, you idiot! I swear there wasn't a sign saying the lift was broken..." Y/N trailed off.

"Oh that's because there wasn't," Hyunjin shrugged like it was nothing.

"Today will be the day you die, Hwang Hyunjin," Y/N dramatically stormed up to him, yet all possible intimidation was lost when she tripped over the last step.

"Woah! Hahaha," Hyunjin helped her balance herself as he caught her by the arms, and then immediately recoiled. "Ew you're so sweaty. And plus you can't kill me before I see your reaction, Hwang Y/N," he smirked, unlocking the door and opening it.

"See my reaction to what? Your art? I already know you're a hopeless romantic, what else could there be to- oh..." Y/N rambled back before standing still in her tracks at the sight of all the members of Stray Kids sat around on the sofas.

"Surprise!" Hyunjin imitated Lee Know's iconic moment, just without the party blower this time.

"H-hi..." Y/N quietly said, and automatically it was assumed by her twin brother that it was because she didn't know who they were.

In fact, it was the complete opposite.

The boys greeted Y/N with polite bows and greetings, before they all sat down and got comfortable.

"You remind me of someone..." Changbin thought, stroking his chin as if he had the wise beard of a wizard.

"It's probably Hyunjin," Seungmin rolled his eyes, jokingly crying out in pain when Changbin shoved him away.

"Yah you pabo! Of course he doesn't mean that!" Han exclaims.

"Seungmin is just teasing, Hannie," Chan facepalmed, whilst Lee Know, Felix, Jeongin and the twins merely observed from the other sofa.

"Are they always like this?" Y/N whispered to herself, yet Jeongin heard.

"Yes they are, noona... can I call you that?" Jeongin shyly asked.

Y/N's eyes widened.

"What's the matter?" Felix asked curiously.

"Oh nothing haha... but um, yes," she awkwardly answered.

"Hmm you two are very similar," Lee Know observed keenly.

"Ew don't compare me to her!" Hyunjin scrunched his nose and side eyed Y/N.

"There it is haha, the same flustered antics," Lee Know clapped his hands.

"Oh I totally see it," Felix nodded along.

"I don't get flustered!" Hyunjin folded his arms and huffed.

"You just did," Y/N shoved Hyunjin, smirking much like he did to her earlier.

"Yah!" Hyunjin pounced.

"Children! Don't fight!" Chan shouted above all the ruckus that had unfolded in simply ten minutes since the Hwang twins entered the apartment.

"Yes dad," they both rolled their eyes in sync and folded their arms.

"Woah, creepy," Jeongin shuddered, causing Y/N to fondly smile.

"Ah! I got it!" Changbin suddenly clapped his hands.

"Indulge me," Y/N smiled lightly as she sat back down.

"You look like Yeji!" Changbin smirked proudly.

"Oh from ITZY?!" Y/N beamed, excited at the comparison.

"How do you know ITZY?" Hyunjin gasped, shocked at his sister's sudden knowledge, assuming that she swerved away from KPOP all because of one time she stated she wasn't really listening to it anymore.

Which by the way lasted for like 2 hours, Y/N just couldn't find a song she wanted to listen to in that moment and ever since, Hyunjin thought that still applied to this day.

There's a reason he's in Paboracha.

"I love KPOP! Duh!" Y/N facepalmed, looking at Hyunjin with an incredulous look after.

"Hyunjinnie, did you lie to us?" Lee Know also turned to the younger twin, a glare taking over his features. Of course, he didn't really mean it.

"You said you didn't listen to it anymore!" Hyunjin defended himself, holding his hands up.

"Why else do you think that I was so awkward when I came here, Jinnie?" Y/N shyly admitted.

"Oh... Oh!!!" Hyunjin suddenly got excited.

"Oh no..." Y/N sighed.

"Why oh no?" Han laughed at the expression on Y/N's face, one he had often seen painted on Hyunjin's too but because of something he did.

"He's up to something," Seungmin chuckled lightly at Hyunjin's excited expression.

"Y/Nnieeeee, sing our song!" Hyunjin proposed the idea that had gotten him so excited.

"No way! That's so embarassing," Y/N turned away from her brother and hid her face.

"We won't judge you noona," Jeongin tried to reassure her, making her heart burst.

"Ah Jeongin you're too cute!" she let her inner fangirl out and squealed.

"Oh no, she really is like hyung," Jeongin's eyes comically widened as he referred to Hyunjin's obsession with him.

"Come on, Y/N, Hyunjin has told us you like writing, the talent must run in your family, just a little bit of singing?" Chan did his best to convince her and it worked.

"Ok, fine, fine," Y/N scratched the back of her neck wondering what.to sing before she couldn't help but fall into a fit of giggles.

"Come on, don't leave us in suspense!" Felix exclaimed, unable to hide his growing smile from her infectious giggles, ones that mirrored Hyunjin's but more high pitched and slightly quieter.

"Hoodie hoodie negan shim toga ji boogie boogie iepon kogo dance groovy groovy," Y/N perfectly imitated Hyunjin's viral part that had made it into many memes. This of course caused everyone to burst out into laughter.

"Wow she really is a true fan!" Lee Know applauded her approvingly.

"She's better than Jinnie," Changbin smirked.

"It's true," Y/N nodded, ignoring Hyunjin's shrieks in protest.

"Remember who was here first!" Hyunjin shouted emotionally, like he was part of some sort of kdrama. And ever since then, with Y/N being able to join in on their teasing, it was like she knew them from the start.

HANAMI HAGANE

Nicknames: 'Hana-chan,' but attempt to use at your own risk.

Nameday: 31st sun of the 2nd astral moon (March 30th). ...I forgot her nameday again. Sorry miss Hagane.

Race: Au Ra Raen

Gender: Meh. She doesn't have strong enough feelings about her own gender identity to bother putting a label to it; most people default to 'she/her' pronouns when addressing her and she's fine with that, although she does object to being addressed as 'Lady ___' or other such courtesy titles—if someone must address her by a title, she prefers 'Ser.' Demigirl, if I were to ascribe modern language.

Orientation: Meh, with an added sprinkle of Not Your Damn Business if She's Not Trying to Fuck You. Her 'dating' history, sparse as it is, mostly consists of women, as does her metaphorical (and much more prodigious) little black book. She thinks of herself as not prone to romance, and a lot of her prior entanglements have been one-night stands or FWB arrangements. Romantic interest is much rarer for her than sexual attraction, and only tends to come after a long period of mutual trust and friendship. Again, using modern terminology, demi-romantic bisexual (with a slight lean towards women—her husband makes fun of her when she sees a giant, hot lady and her brain stops working).

Profession: Adventurer, goldsmith, part-time consultant with Garlond Ironworks (occasionally as an engineer, mostly as a sentient crash test dummy), nominally still the schoolmaster of Crown Gemworks.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS

Hair: Dark reddish-brown, very fine and straight. Usually featuring some amount of pink dye, a holdover from when she was a teenager and her mother dyed her hair for her; it's an unofficial Hagane family tradition/bonding ritual. These days she usually keeps it trimmed to about the length of her chin, but for most of her adulthood she wore it down to her lower back.

Eyes: Green (although historically people have been confused on this point). (Is the confusion mostly the result of my being color blind? Yes.) Her limbal rings are a very bright, pale blue, which throws people off and gives her a delightfully creepy glow-in-the-dark look.

Skin: Warm brown. She probably has an impressive farmer's tan.

Tattoos/Scars: Her most notable scars are on her right forearm (a strangely sigil-like pattern of lines and circles stretching from wrist to elbow that appear to be raised and warped veins, the result of voidsent intervention in her final fight against Zenos in Ultima Thule); her lower torso (a diagonal line from her hip to the bottom of her ribcage, also from Zenos during the assault on Rhaglr's Reach); the back of her right thigh (from a drunken misadventure on a roof in her early twenties); and of course her left horn, which was severed (again by Zenos, or rather Elidibus in Zenos's body in the Ghimlyt Dark) and replaced by a hardsilver prosthesis. While some people assume her iconic face paint is a tattoo, she actually doesn't have any because she's scared of needles. She will not admit to being scared of needles.

FAMILY

Parents: Shomi Hagane is the matriarch of the Hagane clan, a family of samurai who have been serving the lords of Doma almost since its founding. She was raised in Monzen in her family home, and remained there until shortly before the Garlean invasion of Doma, when she begged then-king Kaien for leave to take her wife and young children to the countryside, safely out of reach of the imperial forces. Kaien thanked her for her service and allowed her to flee, thus ending over three centuries of Hagane service to the Rijin line. Maki Sunwalker (née Urabito) is the oldest child of a merchant family from northern Yanxia, though she was disowned as a teenager when she left her family to study the ways of the shinobi in Shinobi-no-Sato. She worked actively as an assassin and spy in service to Doma until the invasion; after Doma's fall she officially retired to become a farmer, though her 'errands' would occasionally take her to Garlean strongholds for days at a time and leave her knives suspiciously bloody.

Siblings: Hanami is the second of five children and the oldest surviving Hagane child; her older brother Akinaga died in the failed uprising at Monzen. Her younger brother Haruki has long been considered her partner in crime and currently splits his time between adventuring and working with the guard of the Doman Enclave. Her two youngest siblings are twins, Itomi and Naonaka; both were conscripted into the Garlean army after the uprising and sent to Ala Mhigo, where Itomi was promoted to Decurion and Naonaka worked as a healer. After their return to Doma, Naonaka moved to the fishing hamlet of Isari and Itomi left for Kugane; neither are currently on speaking terms with Hanami, though Naonaka has made overtures toward his brother and mothers.

Grandparents: None worth mentioning. Shomi's parents were killed during the first failed Garlean invasion, when she was three years old; she was raised by the collective efforts of several other noble families in Monzen, including the Daito family (as a result Gosetsu sometimes jokes that he's Hanami's honorary grandfather). Maki's family disowned her as a teenager and she hasn't had contact with them in almost fifty years.

Others: Hanami has a nephew, Munehise, who is the light of her life. Mune's biological mother isn't in the picture, and Hanami helped Haruki raise him until she left for Eorzea; since her return to Yanxia during Stormblood she's less involved in his day-to-day life, since she's adventuring, but she's still solidly in the 'favorite auntie' slot. (Mune won't say it out loud—the one time he tried is the only time he's ever seen Hanami genuinely upset—but he thinks of her as more of a mother figure than his actual mom.)

She has a bevy of cousins, including Kotone and Honoka (c/o @windupnamazu) and, semi-reluctantly, a brother-in-law (A'dewah on loan from @fistsoflightning). (She loves A'dewah because Haruki loves him. This does not necessarily mean she likes him.) Hanami's moms are also serial adopters, so as soon as Ninira (@nuclearanomaly) and Estinien got within fifty feet of the Hagane household they were trapped.

Hanami inherited the adopting addiction, and legally she's Rielle's guardian (after a trial following the murder of Ystride de Caulignont). She also considers herself responsible for Ryne and Gaia, but in more of a hard-ass aunt way. She takes frequent trips to the First to continue their training as baby tanks.

She married Aymeric shortly before the start of Endwalker and has reached a tentative accord with his elderly cat, Mandragora, who recognizes a fellow grouchy predator when she sees one. Mandragora would take much more kindly to any half-elezen half-au ra kiddies, though...

SKILLS

Abilities: Master martialist, specializing in greatswords but having recently taken up polearms (specifically scythes). Practitioner of the dark arts as taught in the tradition of Ishgard's Dark Knights, and an (somewhat fumbling) initiate in voidsent summoning. Metalworking, with her most extensive training being in goldsmithing, though she takes on several other projects including quite a bit of engineering with the Ironworks. She was also raised on a farm and trained as a botanist, so her green thumb is nothing to sneeze at, though she mostly gardens for sustenance rather than for pleasure or aesthetics.

Hobbies: Hiking, sketching (mostly landscapes and technical drawing), riding her bikes, scaring the shit out of Ishgardian priests.

TRAITS

Most positive trait: Constancy. Hanami is loyal and unwavering—once she's named you an ally or chosen a course of action, that's set in stone. She says exactly what she means and does exactly what she says.

Worst negative trait: Stubbornness, perhaps as the natural flip-side of her positive trait. Her mind is near-impossible to change once it's been made up; she's reluctant to listen to arguments or accept help when she thinks she's better working on her own.

LIKES

Colours: Black, red, green, blue. Mostly jewel tones.

Smells: Campfire smoke, river water, morning mist, blooming honeysuckle, hot metal, clean cotton.

Textures: Fresh sheets, cool grass, calloused hands, polished leather.

Drinks: Tea (hot), fruit juice (cold), the occasional tiny sip of whiskey.

OTHER DETAILS

Smokes: Occasionally, although she prefers fogweed to tobacco. She's been known to pass a joint around with some of the other Scions in their downtime.

Drinks: Not anymore. She drank recreationally through her young adulthood, and developed alcoholic tendencies shortly after Operation Archon, in response to the stress of the Doman refugees arriving in Mor Dhona. She very abruptly swore herself to sobriety midway through the Crystal Tower expedition; speculation says there was some kind of incident that prompted the change, although the only people who seem to have any idea of what happened are Cid Garlond and G'raha Tia, and neither of them are talking. Thancred has been her recovery buddy ever since.

Drugs: See above if you count fantasy weed as a drug? She does not tolerate soporifics well at all and actively avoids them, although rumors in Ul'dah say she has some sort of...history with the Alacran, who are infamous for peddling somnus. She used to dabble with various hallucinogens when she was younger but had given them up by the time she left Doma.

Mount Issuance: She has an ancient issuance for a Maelstrom chocobo rotting in a drawer somewhere, but she can't stand the smell of horsebirds so she never used it. She has a burgeoning collection of motorcycles courtesy of Garlond Ironworks, including a custom one-of-a-kind combat bike, and she probably also has a horse back in Yanxia but this game won't give us normal ass horse models. If she's not able to use her bikes or ride a horse or a falcon she prefers walking.

Been Arrested: Twice. They say you can still find pieces of her sword embedded in the wall of the Tribunal. Attempt at your own risk.

Artist's Blog - Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon (1973)

If you consider yourself a fan of martial arts movies and you haven’t seen Enter the Dragon, every time you say you are a fan, you insult yourself. It’s like dissing Dr. Dre. Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon may be the biggest title in the genre. So, fans that haven’t seen this one need to be beaten with many stripes with a ratan pole by a Sholin master. Lee is the martial artist of martial artist and is the reason that we have martial arts movies in the West that we do today – thank you Bruce! Bela Lugosi was a creepy guy so, Dracula came naturally. Red Foxx was a grumpy, funny old drunk so, Fred Sanford came naturally. Look at the life of Bruce Lee – he lived the life he portrayed. He showed up, that’s all he had to do to make his films cinematic greatness.

Bruce Lee is known for his speed, dedication, blah blah blah, but there are some other iconic things he brought to the martial arts cinema. What does Bruce Lee like to drink? Wa-taa, of course. The iconic “wa-taa” and cat like scream noises as his attack collided with an opponent are other Bruce Lee staples. Facial expressions he would make and the way he would positions his hands in the surfer “hanging loose” posture are also well-known moves. Perhaps the best most inclusive of all of these is Enter the Dragon. I assure you that they are all used. No better scene shows the face though than when we double stomps on Ohara’s chest killing him. Lee then ends with another signature grimace face. You can watch this scene, if you’d like, here to get an idea of what I’m talking about.

As a young man I heard of Bruce Lee’s incredible speed. His dedication, discipline, and speed are the factors that gave him his edge in the martial arts world. There are many stories about him. For instance, he got angry because Robin was supposed to beat Kato in the 60s Batman television series. The fight ends in a stalemate at the insistence of Lee. You can read more here. Another was that he was so fast, cameras couldn’t capture him. Watch a video demonstrating this here. As kids, we would watch the fight with Ohara in Enter the Dragon on VHS in slow motion. You can see that Lee takes his rear hand, pulls Ohara’s front hand down, and strikes him in the face with his front hand. The thing is, in regular speed, you never see Lee’s rear hand move.

Bruce Lee’s films are standalone so, it’s hard to compare them to others. It’s like comparing Jimi Hendrix to other guitarists or Van Gogh to other artists. I think it’s always apples to oranges because Lee was so unique. His style was unique, his skill was unmatched, and his timing in history was perfect. There are many great guitarists, but none like Hendrix. Many artists are amazing, but there will never be another Van Gogh. In the world of Kung Fu movies, there are classics and many other great actors like Jet Li, Gordon Liu, and Jackie Chan to name a few. No matter how great these actors are or how skilled in real life, there will never be another Bruce Lee. So, when I talk about his films, I may compare them to others but, there really isn’t any comparison in my opinion.

The final boss in Enter the Dragon is a former Shaolin kung fu practitioner who runs a drug operation. You don’t realize it until the final fight but, he has a fake hand. As Bruce goes to face him, he begins to change his hand out with others. The final hand, three blades, gives Lee the iconic cuts that you typically see on film art. The ending fight includes 2 things that stood out. One is the only thing that I don’t really like about Enter the Dragon. This climactic fight scene is in a room full of mirrors but, it seems more like a room with mirror walls. I’ve been in a mirror maze, and this wasn’t the feel I got. This could have been improved in my opinion. Secondly, it has one of my most favorite lines of any film that I’ve ever seen.

I heard a story once and I think it’s the best “oh crap” moment story I’ve ever heard. A story that really makes someone think, “my life is about to be over” or “this is it.” Say it however you’d like but, we all know the idea – something just happened, and you know that you know something bad is about to happen. The story goes like this. Brad Pitt, who pretends to be a fighter, is sleeping with Robin Givens. Robin is the wife of Mike Tyson, yes, “Iron” Mike Tyson. Iron Mike is a heavyweight world champion boxer who’s mentally unstable and has been to prison. He’s from the street and there’s no pretending. Well, Mike catches Brad with his wife. I imagine that Brad had to change his underwear. I would have. You can read the tale yourself here.

Now, for the second thing that stood out in the final fight, wrap you dome around this. The only time I think I could imagine a worse “oh crap” moment, if movies were real, would be in Enter the Dragon. You’re waiting on Bruce Lee to walk in, and he does. You can tell, even though he always has the same temperament, that he’s super pissed. You’ve done a lot of evil, and he knows about it all. He doesn’t slowly remove nunchakus from his pants, take a wide stance and do some surfer symbols, no. Instead, he stops, looks you in your eyes, and calmly says, “You have offended my family, and you have offended the Shaolin Temple.” At this point, you know you are about to take one of the worst beatings in history…before you die.

To my knowledge, Bruce Lee did not study at Shaolin but, anyone with his heritage and appreciation of the martial arts has a respect for the temple. I do and have never studied any Chinese arts in any official capacity. There have been a few backyard lessons with folks who knew a little but, nothing serious. Enter the Dragon has a scene that takes place at a temple where Bruce Lee’s character is recruited for the mission on which the story is based. We see Bruce instructing a young man about kicking in a temple courtyard. To a serious martial artist, respect is one of the biggest lessons you learn. One that is often more important than any kicking or punching. To disrespect the Shaolin temple would be to disrespect the mother of all fighting arts, all instructors, all knowledge, and thus a very big deal.

Personally, I heil Bruce Lee as the greatest martial artists of recorded history. By recorded, I mean on film. Out of fairness, I must admit that MMA has diluted my opinion. Let me explain. The Gracie family showed the martial arts world a truth about fighting. It can be incredibly hard to stay on your feet in a fight. Most martial arts prior to the UFC, including Wing Chun and Jeet Keen Do, are stand up striking arts with very little ground fighting. Had Bruce Lee lived and gotten into the UFC, I’m not sure how well he would have done. If, and it’s a big if, someone with modern MMA training were to have taken him down, I think he would have been at a loss. I imagine, like most other martial artists, Bruce would have incorporated Brazilian Jiu Jitsu into his style early on.

There are two things to consider here. First, the infamous fight between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris which takes place in Return of the Dragon is rumored to have been a real sparring match and not a choreographed fight scene. You can watch the scene for yourself here on YouTube. Now, there is footage of Chuck Norris, another martial arts legend, sparring with Rickson Gracie which you can see here. Rickson makes quick work of Chuck once the fight goes to the mat. In defense of Chuck Norris, I don’t know how seriously he was attacking Rickson in this sparring match but, it’s interesting to see regardless. These videos help to illustrate the point I’m making – Bruce Lee was amazing but martial arts have well advanced beyond only kicking and punching.

Wisdom and Kung Fu seem to go hand-in-hand. Kwai Chang Kaine in Kung Fu: The Legend Continues is likely to blame for most of this but, Bruce Lee is another known for saying philosophical, wise, and almost cryptic things. His most famous line was “Be like water”, which you can watch here. Right behind this, would have to be, “The art of fighting without fighting” which is taken from Enter the Dragon. Very simply put, this just means to outsmart your opponent. In the movie, he convinces an aggressive fellow to meet him on an island to fight. The challenger gets in the small boat which Lee allows to drift behind the main boat leaving him at the mercy of the rope connecting the boat. This is a famous scene and a great demonstration of Lee’s philosophy.  

I compare late Bruce Lee to the late Prince. Allow me to elaborate on this point. Both men were great at what they did. In fact, I would put both as the best or in the top 3 best in their respective fields. With greatness comes a certain level of necessity for control over your craft, I think. Prince is well known for having been a control freak over his music. Watch a video of a young Prince talking about this here. He wanted his music to be as great on record as it was in his mind. He was a perfectionist. Bruce Lee’s guitar was the nunchuck and his pen was his fist. In this way, he was no different than Prince. Here’s my point with this, Bruce Lee choreographed his own fight sequences in his films and, to my knowledge, wrote them all too.

Of course, there is kung fu and great action in Enter the Dragon but, there’s so much more. There are old helicopters, ancient ruins, Chinese mansions, and extravagant Asian parties too. Bruce Lee alone would have been fine in this movie but, having other good actors never hurts. Enter the Dragon features 3 other notable names. First, Jim Kelly, who in this film, is an afro sporting karate champion and all-around cool cat. The second is a fellow named John Saxon. John, in real life, is a black belt in karate and plays one in Enter the Dragon. The most notable supporting actor though is Bolo Yeung. We all know Bolo who has played the character Bolo in many martial arts films. Bloodsport would be his most popular film. You can read my blog on this Van Damme classic here.

Nothing bad can be said for anything Bruce Lee did. Weighing everything is awesome against everything is awesome is tricky. Mathematically it’s easy but, it’s not. I don’t think that Enter the Dragon was Bruce Lee’s best movie but, many do. It was the centerpiece for him but, not his best work. I intend to watch all his movies again then make a comparison but, I like Game of Death best. Read a fan ranking here. Most, it seems, tend to disagree with me. Before there were E-girls we had Chans! Chans were usually just quirky girls who sat in front of their laptops and acted weird on 4Chan in their homes and got a cult like following because of their niche interests or eccentric looks (for that time atleast) They were usually given the chan suffix due to 4Chan being filled with weebs and horny dorks and because the Japanese suffix is used as a term of endearment, most frequently used for girls but not limited to them. The name would be based on what you were known for on the image board (creepy, loli, black) (I'm not joking about loli and black btw...)

Chan interests were but not limited to

-Anime/Japanese culture

-Something taboo (drugs, alcohol, blood, etc)

-Drawing

-Memes/internet culture

-Video games

-Thick and often bad eyeliner

-General cuteness

4Chan took interests in these girls because...well 4Chan.

Some well known chans have gone on to make decent careers for themselves while others faded away to obscurity.

Below are notable mentions:

Boxxy (BoxxyBabee, Queen of b or Catherine "Cathy" Wayne)

While not having the Chan suffix anywhere in her name she definitely belongs on the list, some could argue she was above even being considered a chan (I'm some). Best known for her online character "Boxxy" in her highly energetic vlogs which showcased her bubbly personality and iconic scene girl eyeliner we all came to love but to my surprise alot of people are unaware she actually caused an entire war on 4Chan.

Boxxy spam and flame wars had filled the image board to the point where 4chan users launched a denial of service (DDoS) attack on themselves causing the site to shut down for 7 hours. Channers took to Twitter to launch a Twitter bomb. Things got so bad to the point they doxxed her, left gifts on her doorstep and hacked her YouTube channel. In my honest opinion she was the first victim of cancel culture but I digress. Boxxy is honestly my personal fave since I was around to whitness her in real time and because her high pitched voiced pleased my underdeveloped child brain.

Boxxy has went on to attend comicons and do voice acting (you definitely heard her in some videos, don't worry)

Creepy-Chan (Tussin Chan, Cute Chan, Allicat, Queen of /X/)

My second favorite Chan since I was also around to witnesses her in the prime of her popularity (we get it I've been chronically online since a child)

Creepy chan being the given pseudonym of fashion model Allison Harvard, whose photos were shared on 4chan as early as 2005 due to her eccentric and at time unsettling looks, (Ex: large eyes, heavy makeup, slim body, pouty lips, lanky hands) and peculiar interests like fascination with blood, she earned several nicknames on the site. In 2009, she gained mainstream notoriety after appearing as a contestant on the reality television show America's Next Top Model and spoiler alert: she came in 2nd place.

Creepy-Chan has continued her modeling career. (You go Allison!)

Cracky-Chan (Sky Queen, ScareCrowMaiden, Goddess of 4Chan)

Now this one... Is a relic, despite being the first chan/camgirl on the site's board /b she seems to be lesserknown compared to Boxxy and Creepy-Chan but she is a huge part of 4Chan lore because she defined what /b/ thinks today of camgirls. It was Cracky who first coined the phrase "'sup 4chan" which is now widely used on imageboards and forums. (Or was...) "Cracky-chan" was given to her because she looked as if she had "Snorted crack" due to her messy applied red makeup, heavy eyeliner and distorted mischievous smile. In 2005 photos of her wearing the classic Japanese schoolgirl uniform with black animal ears and badly applied make-up appeared on the random board. The first ever Cracky image to be posted. It showed her in her iconic sailor outfit with the phrase “’Sup 4chan” written on her palm. The images were quickly pronounced cute and sweet by Anonymous and she was given the name Cracky-chan. Now like with most girls on the site the basement dwellers on 4Chan obsession with Cracky-chan had developed such a grip on /b/ that 4chan's then-Admin W.T.Snacks put a wordfilter over cracky [which has since been lifted] in an effort to discourage cracky discussion. (When you posted the word "cracky" it was automatically changed to a random word ending in -cky such as Jacky, Packy, etc)

During this time the teenage "Cracky-chan" laid low and kept out of the spotlight due to the unexpected attention and internet fame which caused her fanboys to mourn the lost of their queen...so they leaked her Livejournal full of drawings, portraits and selfies.

(Some of the photos had nudity, menstrual blood on the face and her in gothic lolita fashions)

What drove /b/'s enduring obsession with Cracky-chan was the collection of self-portraits that Cracky had made being artistic and usually having unusual themes (blood, guro, lolita, other typical chan themes) She was so loved that fansites were created of her in which she would come out of hiding to ask them to be shut down due to unwanted attention.

Despite being the backbone of Chan culture, She has faded into obscurity which is said to be a result from her father contacting the then admin of 4Chan to remove all traces of her daughter since she was being stalked,harassed and her job has been contacted. In 2022 I did find a person on Twitter claiming to be her but the post hadn't gotten alot of attention, their faces did match up but it was hard to tell since the adult woman was bigger in size compared to a smaller teenage girl, the Twitter account is now gone.
