discovered an amazing youtube channel called real horror, who does history and crime videos. she only has a few videos on her channel, as she has a full time museum job, and she researches, script writes, narrates, and edits the videos all herself, but she's incredible. her voice is so soothing and smooth, and she is super respectful of any topic she talks about, always getting permission from relatives, or contacting the relevant people to get the facts (if they wish to give them).
but what drives me insane, and seemingly her from a few comments i have seen her make, is that a ton of the comments praise the work of 'the channel creator', but presume that she, the narrator, is not the channel creator and script writer. the say stuff like 'your videos are amazing! and i love the voice of the narrator', and just very clearly viewing the channel owner and narrator as two distinct entities. when she clarifies that it's all her, they're surprised.
you NEVER see this on faceless narrated male documentary style channels. it's presumed until otherwise said that they are the ones who also researched and wrote everything. but for her, they immediately think that a man is running the channel, and she's just a hired voice for a script a man wrote. it's wild to see.

reading volume 105 and I had forgotten we actually got mihawk's bounty and on page acknowledgement that he's a better swordsman than shanks??? they have half a billion difference in bounty mihawk's is still over half a billion above luffy's this is absolutely fantastic to me for many many reasons but especially because by god zoro seriously fought him ten volumes in. he really tried to fight someone with three times king's bounty with only one named sword and three weeks of experience as a pirate. he actually left his village at age sixteen specifically looking for him and went up to him at age nineteen convinced he was gonna win. and he had the guts to complain about mihawk using the butter knife to fight him too how is he alive he's so lucky mihawk felt like adopting that day
#i have already extensively lost my mind over final boss mihawk cruising the waters of the plot since the early chapters for#absolutely no reason whatsoever and tricking you into forgetting he's an actual god walking between ants#but when i read these things in the manga it fucks me over all over again like#yes sure shanks was there first chapter too but not as an enemy??? not sitting smack in the middle of the shichibukai#nearly all of them luffy defeated when he was still nothing more than a rabid chihuahua???#insane!!! mihawk is insane!!!!#but the fact that he has only half a billion difference with shanks ESPECIALLY trips me cause#strength isn't the only factor in deciding a bounty in one piece!!!#influence! power on the seas! number of territories and subordinates!! the type of crimes they committed!!#they all play a factor in deciding someone's worth together with their strength#and shanks has all of that#all of that factors in his four billions bounty#but mihawk has none of that!!! no power! no territories! he doesn't even have crewmates!!!#he's alone doing his thing by himself!!!!#he /was/ called the marine hunter so I'll guess he does have the incidents to make his bounty increase#but aside from that it's all calculated on his strength??? his strength alone is worth 3.5 billions?????#how high would his bounty even be if he had a fleet and territories like shanks does??????#dude#dude I'm obsessed with mihawk#in case that wasn't clear or obvious enough#......he's pretty much worth the added bounties of marco king and katakuri i cannot wrap my head around this#he straight up says he doesn't want to be an emperor is this why he isn't one it is isn't it dude made it so himself#oh i LOVE him when is he becoming relevant already#if oda doesn't give me either a fight between him and shanks or with them allied fighting side by side before the end I'll cry fr

we have people making posts that come off as anti-voting and then they go to say no thats not what we actually mean.
but then you have people on these posts saying theyre not going to vote or they dont care if t*ump can run again and wins and i just need to say. you fell for propaganda.
we still have a year and no idea where we will be at that time or who we're voting for, but we still need to come together and make a decision at that time because if you genuinly think we can stand another year of enabling bigots as loudly as they were, you are very wrong.
we get it, you mean to say we need to demand change from who we vote for, and that voting someone in does not guarantee change, and its evident not many people in govt represent the people. So say that instead!
you still need to go out and do it! voter supression is a thing for a reason! make this the bare minimum single thing you do, then continue doing every other radical revolutionary thing you suggest! the fact so many people are hopping on current events to start this anti-voting misinformation campaign is upsetting and questionable

Can i just say, cuz i saw the tag and it’s bothering me a little (as a lover of history)
Yes Japan allied with germany in world ward II, but they didn’t really do it because they agreed with germany. Like i’m not giving Japan a pass on anything they’ve done (they’re very much a coloniser as well)
But Japan joined germany out of anger a spit not out of shared ideology. Japan was angry they got short shafted after world war I where they fought alongside the allied forced and helped win some major battles, and then when it came to making a peace treaty they got nothing.
They didn’t get any labd like britian, france and the USA.
They didn’t even really get invited to be a part of the peace treaty like other countries on the winning side.
Japan joined Germany more out of frustration than being actual fascists. Like, yes. Their country has gone a really sort of terrible way in terms of government and they did commit a lot of war crimes and murder for the sake of getting rid of people they deemed ‘beneath them’
But had the other allied countries shown them even an ounce of respect after world war I maybe they would have stayed on their side.

Still obsessed with the fact that Red Cross's homophobia is trans inclusive. Nonbinary and intersex people are required to select male or female, but you don't have to select your sex assigned at birth, and if you select that you're a trans man who has sex with men you're ineligible and if you're a trans woman who has sex with men you're eligible. It absolutely baffles me it's so funny

Absolute makes a dollar
Adventurers make a dime
*strums lute*
And that's why this bard plays her lute oh so hard
And the commonfolk gather to listen and blather
And no one can can mark that pale elf in the dark
As he takes with his fingers, so quick not to linger
All eyes are on Wyeth and gods she sure tryeth
To twirl and macazzle, the old razzle dazzle
So give love, not hate - let her lighten that weight
For you, ere new or old, will you toss her some gold?
And remember
Forever
That while this adventurer's heart may be true
She'll never forget that this dime came from you
*quick bow, quicker exit, thanks darlings you've all been splendid, must dash*

Not me sitting here wondering whether there’s any correlation between the increase of “if you’re a bad person you will always be bad” mindset and the desire for Jason Todd (or anyone) to kill the Joker...
Or does it stem from an increase of people realising they were traumatised at some point in their life and desire catharsis?

Sort of bums me out that so many people didn't seem to Get the Cat King so here are my thoughts:
So let's start with Edwin's crime. He uses something the cat desires (a sardine) to lure the cat to him and then uses an enchanted string to trap the cat with magic. He demands the answer to a question in exchange for its release. Edwin knows it is dangerous to use magic on a cat, that it violates Rules but he does it anyway.
Binding a creature and agreeing to set them free under a certain condition is very Classic Fairytale. its also a favourite trope of Neil Gaiman's (he did not write this show but his influence is there). In both the Sandman and his novel Stardust (and the film adaptation) trapping a creature with magic and demanding a task/favour in exchange for their freedom is an extremely important plot point. Edwin binding a cat and demanding an answer in exchange is exactly in line with this Fairytale trope
And so is the Cat Kings response. The Cat King is a trickster. What he does to Edwin is exactly what Edwin did to one of his subjects. He entices Edwin, he binds him with magic and when Edwin demands to be free he turns his own words against him "why all the fuss for one little spell?" Edwin did something wrong. He imposed his will/magic on another creature and the Cat King is punishing him for it in a way that is poetic. Its fairytale. its trickster. its classic.
I've also seen people complain that the task Edwin was given 'count all the cats' is 'impossible'...except its fucking not. Edwin does it. He does it so well he actually BEATS the Cat King ("you didn't count yourself" Are.You.Kidding.Me. Classic!Fairytale!Vibes!)
The Cat Kings choice to bind Edwin to Port Townsend is good on so many levels. From a storytelling perspective it forces characters who can travel anywhere in the world to stay in one place, and increases the stakes for these characters who are supposed to be on the run. From a genre perspective...its an excellent use of fairytale tropes using both Rules of magic, a protagonist who is unkind to a seemingly weak creature who is punished by a more powerful law, a binding, a task to complete, etc
Which just leaves the character perspective which it ALSO does really fucking well and introduces the final aspect to the Cat Kings character. He's seductive. He is responsible for Edwin, 100 years old ghost boy, finally unpacking his internalized homophpbia. he is the catalyst (cat pun not intended)
He pushes Edwin, challenges him, at times literally forces the truth out of Edwin, but he really never does violate his consent. Significantly Edwin is attracted to him, like its an important part of his character that he is. He may not like the Cat King but he is attracted to him!
The Cat King is such a great example of a trickster, a morally grey character who imposes a sense of justice on Edwin after he crosses a line, but also has his own selfish interests and meddles. Hes so important to the plot of the show, to Edwin's character arc, to the genre.
And he's just fun. Unapologetically queer, powerful, complicated. Silly little outfits. Petty cat behavior. Deep heart.
Some of you just didn't get it. And I'm sorry for you. because the Cat King is Excellent actually.
