why are 99% of crochet animal patterns just vague blobs. cmon. i know we can do better as a community. have you seen the shit the national parks service put out? yeah, the NPS. there are grandmas on the frontlines of the most formally accurate critters this side of a 3D printer. we can do better than orb with two triangles sewn on. we can make a more accurate cat. that is NOT what a turtle looks like. step AWAY from the axolotl
I have SO MUCH Red Heart yarn that I need to use up and go through, I Do Not Love The Yarn you could say, a lot of it was given to me or was bought when I first started yarnbending.
Do any of you have crochet project recommendations where using Red Heart actually makes sense? I’m planning on a tote bag, but I really can’t think of anything else because the feeling of the yarn is just miserable and I Do Not Like Touching It when it’s all yarnbended together for extended periods of time. So the bag is fine. But no wearables, blankets, or things you touch very often.
It’s just Red Heart’s super saver acrylic, worsted weight. And I can’t figure out for the life of me what to do with it in a useful way.
the first project i created after years of not crocheting was a dicebag for myself - I'm going to start my first dnd campaign sooon (<3)
so what should it be? something easy, let's have a look arou.... oh. or I could make a d12? sure
step 1: find a sturdy looking pentagon pattern and crochet 12 pentagons
we are getting there
step 2
I needed numbers on them, so I was trying to find crochet numbers. they were all too big, so I decide to just create chains in white and sew them on.
this was the longest part of the whole project by the way. crocheting the pentagons? the shortest.
(on the paper next to the pentagons i was trying to figure out, how many chains will i need for each of the numbers)
I decided to use the "wrong side" for the numbers because it was slightly easier to sew them on. maybe next time i should prepare and plan things?
part 3
assembly!
and then the poor thing got stuck in limbo for weeks.
i hate the finishing touches, especially hiding the excess yarn (which is like 10 minutes, but just... no)
but now i finished it, so the blog is doing it's purpose i guess :)
I still have to figure out how i want to close it - i don't really like the zipper idea, so i might add picot border on both sides of the opening and use strings, but i am not sure yet.
if anyone has ideas how else could i solve it, feel free to add :)
i used scrap yarn, and a 2.5 hook for the pentagons and assembly, and probably a 2 for the letters.
not the prettiest project ever, but it's mine, and i will carry it with me to glorious adventures :)
i feel insane for frogging and restarting this project but i cannot believe i somehow increased 30 stitches
to be fair, i learned to crochet less than 3 weeks ago and this is a much more advanced pattern than everything else I’ve done and started, with a front post double crochet so that was absolutely a learning curve. also found out i cannot count and absolutely cannot do projects like this without stitch markers.
with the mistakes it just got way too big, its supposed to be a kindle sleeve and it would’ve been way baggy had I kept going. hopefully I’ll do a better job counting this time, and it won’t take as long to get that far since my hands know the stitches and pattern now
Ive finally started using my down time at work to learn something new. I kept seeing amigurumi plushies as raffle prizes for gdq events, and thot they were the coolest things. I recently found out that its just a crochet technique. And crochet is something i can easily take to and from work. So ive been learning to crochet at work! Lol. Its easier and harder than i expected in a way. The three pictures are basically my progress swatches, top to bottom, practicing basic single and double crochet stitches. The first blue was from my very first day, and the rest has been done over the last two weeks. Regulating tension is so difficult and counting too omg. Then this morning i finished my very first sphere! I stuffed it wil scrap paper lmao so thats probably partly why its lumpy.
hello!! my name is ez, im 19 and my pronouns are she/they! i like crocheting and ive been a wiccan witch for just over two years. i also like poetry, creative writing, vintage books, body positivity and more stuff!
itd be awesome if i could get some mutuals who like the same stuff as me :D!!! so give me a follow, if youd like and ill follow you back :))
This is my first crochet project I just finished, it is a twisted headband in emerald green. I made it a little too small, maybe next time I double the rows. ^^ I want to try knitting next. ;P
