... There is a gameplay in FE16?
All jokes aside, playing to other T/SRPGS than FE lately really made me remember that, well, I don't remember "playing" FE16 as in I don't remember a map where I specifically had fun.
I can tell which BGM I prefer or the general atmosphere of my favourite map - but I can't really tell you that "yeah this was a fun map".
Usually I'd say miffy gameplay can be offset if the story is good/engaging enough (FE4) but thinking a bit more about it, in FE16 we have the bare minimum of FE gameplay (tfw no weapon triangle), reclassing units and picking their boons mean they're not unique anymore and the slight difference in growths can be offset with a good weapon - for the physical classes - so... yeah.
Gameplay is definitely not FE16's forte, and the story is, well, y'know, too infused with earl grey to be palatable so...
Looking at some post somewhere comparing UO to the FE series
"wow interesting! I can't wait to read it!"
Few seconds later
"so that's why UO is a closer game to the FE franchise than Engage bcs Engage BaD, but it doesn't reach the "depth" of Houses which I really love bcs every character had nuance and depth save for the evil lizard lady who is very BaD"
Damn guys, I finally understand what y'all were saying about some fans comparing their "Galvius did nothing wrong save for singing a Jpop song uwu" masterpiss to everything else in existence to praise it, while shitting on Engage for funsies.

Supreme leader is just lying again, because that's all she does. If evil in your heart means you're no longer in Askr explain Grima dressed as a wolf having the time of his life and Formortiis granting the Christmas spirit and getting into it. Also why are you still here, supreme leader? *eyes emoji*
Given how FEH had her, I mean, Flamey, explicitely seek people with a low sense of self to use as pawns, I suppose this exchange was somehow ironic : Nuibaba is approached by women who want to use her as a pawn in their own schemes, Supreme Leader apparently saves her, but we know she too, I mean, Flamey, is looking for people to use to reach her own goals!
Of course, Fodlan discourse being what it is withFE16 being a touchy subject even for IS because FE16's spotlightis all about teatime and uwu school days and not the second part of the game, this irony will not be spelled out and some people might not notice it at all.
Watsonian wise there's apparently some magic that prevents "heroes" from being evil and whatnot, but Nergal is his quintessence obsessed self, Fomortiis is having fun and Valter is, well... Y'know.
Granted, as my fwend @crushednugget recently reminded me, woobie!Valter had been a thing, once :

Legitimately, I'm writing my own fic (well, planning right now, but I'm going to write it) where a guy ends up in Fódlan during Crimson Flower and joins Claude to stop Edelgard from winning (because hey, even though the epilogue SAYS they won the shadow war against the Agarthans, THEY STILL HAVE NUKES), and I'm unironically using your and the other Edelgard critical blogs to help me in writing the characters (crushednuggets' analyses are particularly helpful).
Like, I knew Felix had negative character development, but since everyone's always said Lysithea made the most sense in joining the Black Eagles, I never realized how much joining the Empire turned her away from her own house and family.
Oh, good luck with writing it!! I always suck at writing multi-chapter fics lmao, so hope all goes well! And I'm so happy to hear that my blog's been able to help! <3 (crushed-nugget's analyses are pretty cool lmao they're super interesting)
And yeah, the people who say Lysithea is an "honorary Black Eagles" forget that Lysithea's extremely consistent goal is to help her parents find some peace
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and taking down the Empire (to help her parents find peace)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...and then you get this line in Lysithea's Chapter 15 explore dialogue in CF
Tumblr media
Lysithea literally everywhere else: I'm going to do whatever it takes to help my family so that they can find peace, with me going back to them and spending my remaining years with them once I've finally achieved that peace for them. I want to take the Empire down for what they have done to me and my family
CF!Lysithea: lol i don't wanna be with my family, go Edelgard!!
Lysithea's character takes a sharp nosedive on CF (like most everyone else), but because she is the only student who can support with Edelgard (which is only because they both were experimented on) and she's the only student who can be recruited on CF without recruiting her in pre-ts (which frankly makes 0 sense, why would it be easier to recruit Lysithea of all the students who this applies to?), suddenly the fact that she's willing to work with the country that fucked her over and she wants to abandon her family just don't matter.
Granted, the game itself isn't really doing her any favors either - Lysithea definitely should have been a route specific unrecruitable, like Hilda - but the fandom just swallowing this whole without thinking that maybe making Lysithea fight for the people that literally ruined her life is perhaps hypothetically a not good thing is still very annoying

kinda noticed it on @crushednugget and their everyone is miserable on cf posts, but in a manner id say that the overarching theme in cf recharacterization is generally caricaturized. which in a way ties into how cf is the 'shallow dive' route where everything is kept to a surface level because edelgard doesnt know as much as she thinks she does.
consider that on cf most of everyone recruited or not become one note variations of themselves most like their initial introductions. as crushednugget points out, manuela on cf goes from a woman though with a tendency to preen over lost days but having a dedicated heart to others safety regardless, into the most caricature couger chasing men but having bad luck variation of herself. ferdinand on ss grows into someone with a deeper understanding of what it means to be a noble, well on cf he maintains his puffed up attitudes about needing to be physically and psychologically superior and dominant to be a good noble. and it extends outside that, cf leonie and alois are hyper obsessed with jeralt, cf felix is at his most brooding battle hungry swordsmen like, sylvain is at his most flippant etc. etc.
and, in a manner i would argue that could be a way of tying to cfs larger overarching idea of surface knowledge and also why so many of its stans gravitate towards it so hard to the point of denial. its the one where the characters are the most like your first introduced to them, not only at their most shallow but actively regressing in some manner when recruited over to the BE strike force. marianne for instance has a tendency towards bing dower and portents of doom and helplessness but on cf that's practically all she is as a character. it contrasts against the 'antagonists' who well not always at their most complex are by and far more three dimensional as characters here then the people your actually fighting with. in fact, huberts about the only person on cf who actually becomes more complex and interesting on this route in comparison to others.
which is all a manner of saying that in a way cf is the most safe and comfortable route for a lot of people, because its the route that goes out of its way to most fit in with what your already comfortable with and familiar with in regards to its characters.

Based on @nilsh13’s rundown of the takes in The Teacher Theory guy’s magnum opus fanfic, it’s kinda clear that these guys are talking out of their ass.
CF is about choice and free will? Then why are you installing a tyrant who believes she knows best and makes everyone bow down to her. The devs have even said that the route is about getting rid of those who stand in your way because you believe something different.
Game is against organized religions? Then explain the Buddhist symbolism or the very fact that the devs have said the world was made to support fighting against Edelgard in Silver Snow. The entire fucking world paints her as the bad guy to the point the last cutscene before the first battle of the BESF is literally called Against the World. And that’s not even going into how Edelgard canonically takes over the Church at the end of CF, the only route without any form of separation of Church and State.
AM ruins Felix’ and Ingrid’s characterization? Funnily how growing the fuck up and following your dreams ruins your characterization.
Edelgard is the only leader that cares about Byleth, yet she told Jertiza he can try to kill Byleth after the war.
The Blue Lions is the status quo house. Hmm, giving power to the masses vs. reinstating the ideals some dead fuck tried to implement a thousand years ago as he attempted to conquer Fodlan. Sure, Blue Lions is about status quo.
Edelgard is based on Napoleon and that’s a good thing. Edelgard is based on the guy who took the French revolution, turned it around into him being crowned emperor, putting his brother on the Spanish throne after trying to help his ally there with a coup, invaded Portugal because they wouldn’t sign on to the Continental system and traded with the English, tried to invade Russia because they began trading with the English which screwed up Napoleon’s plan to invade a weakened England? The guy who was bleed France so hard with his wars that when France was invaded, the invaders were greeted as liberators when they arrived at Paris? That guy?
The theme of Three Houses is the damage prejudgements cause. I mean, the early game makes it out that Claude and Rhea can’t be trusted and that Dimitri has a hidden darkness. It’s almost like the game does so to make the player pick Edelgard, thinking she will be the good guy only for her to end up the villain. Maybe these guys should check their own prejudgements, because they still are buying into the fandom guessing about the story pre-release and it’s been two fucking years.
It’s disgusting of Margrave Gautier to send people to kill his son. Said son tried to kill his brother multiple times before being kicked out of the family as a freaking adult. Then he began robbing people, not to mention raping women, and had a member of TWSITD in his group. A group that somehow succeeded in stealing a Relic, I might add. Also, the game says Lonato would have destroyed every village he enountered on the way to the monastery. Funny how Edelgard emphasizes with a rapist and a guy whose anger would have hurt the masses, rather than the masses she said she’s doing this for.
SS is the bad ending for Byleth. Lol, whut? You mean becoming cold and distant as they fight their former students and peers, turning their back on the teaching gig they loved and led to them gaining emotions in the first place, believing that they should be killed if they can’t maintain their humanity, gets their accomplishments stolen by the one pushing the idea of merit, gains no recongition for their deeds, and spends years fighting TWSITD from the shadows in order to support a totalitarian regime? Not to mention losing their powers because they followed the path of ignorance, never rising up to be a leading figure for the masses? That’s the GOOD ending? ( @crushednugget this might be worth adding to your “everyone is miserable in CF” posts)
I can go on, but fuck. What are their moral compasses like if they think the things you do and support in CF are in any way good?

They only posted that in Nintendo of America. The european and Japanese accounts didn't post shit. Well, at least they know their market lmao (related to the bday post)
@crushednugget also helpfully went back and can confirm that nothing was posted for Dimitri.
I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt though. Game was still pretty new in December (and Edelgard is the oldest lord so maybe they were waiting for her to post birthday wishes for the lords).
If we don’t see anything for Claude come July then we can get our panties in a twist over their favoritism.

How is Byleth less emotive by the end of crimson flower? Like, genuine question.I agree that edelgard isn't the cause of them gaining emotions, but they don't seem any less unemotive or worse off?
Like, yeah they keep fighting those who slither in the dark you know like they do in other routes earlier, but eventually that ends.
Edelgard says that she thought of Byleth as detached, which is sort of true? Like did I miss something?
Yeah, that eventually ends.
And then what?
What happens to Byleth once TWS are taken out and their "legendary sword" is useless for a grand purpose? Because on the other routes, that would be to guide Fodlan to an era of peace with the leadership position they've earned on their own with no need to marry anyone else to gain that power, but in CF they gain no such thing; they're just a hired hand with a particularly good sword arm. They have no purpose outside of defeating TWS when left to themselves on CF vs the other routes that give them an important, long-standing ambition to strive for that don't involve Byleth being stronk with cool sword.
As for the route itself, this post by @crushednugget goes over how Byleth in this route... is detached from others. As in, they are far less in tune with those around them on CF explore sections than they are on the other routes. They become either far more self-centered or are otherwise far more blind to the emotions of others. And Edelgard showing surprise at Byleth having emotions and/or connections with others in their A support is a very troubling sign. This is potentially the furthest you can get with the lord of the route, and she didn't think that Byleth was capable of having connections until Byleth outright says so.
The only route that has Byleth literally emote less (as in, their expressions change as per the story) than CF is AM - the route that's focused way more of the lord of the route's character than the other three and just has more scenes that have it to where you literally can't see Byleth's face (the entire Rodrigue death has no Byleth). And even then, AM!Byleth is far more emotionally intelligent in the explore sections than CF!Byleth, showing that they are more in tune with emotions, whether their own of others.
Hope that answers your question!

Considering all the bridges burned, of course is decried, as the smart guy is being stupid. You can find an anon's thoughts on the "Clout" tag in @crushednugget's blog
I technically understand all the words here, although not in that sequence without more context.
I’m just going to assume this is about Three Hopes and say that shortly I’ll be forming my own opinions about...whatever it is you’re talking about.

See, I really think the interpretation of CF being a love story between Edelgard and Byleth is more of a result of the botched translation, rather than the intent.
First off, we have to remember that the name of the route itself was changed in the translation to Crimson Flower. This name is pretty vague, but fits more with the naming conventions of the other routes (color + one of the things mentioned in the poem associated with the seasons). People think this flower is referring to a red rose, symbolic of love, due to how the line in Edge of Dawn is changed from “I look to you like a small red flower,” to “I look to you like a red rose.” The song associated Edelgard with the red rose, and therefore love.
But in Japan, the route is named Safflower. Safflower doesn’t mean love, it means attraction and wanting to catch someone else (we’ll leave how safflowers are thistles, and considered an invasive species/noxious wee for another time).. So right there, the original text is making the story of Edeleth out to be something far shallower. It’s not based on love, it’s based on Byleth/The player being attracted to Edelgard or her rhetoric. Combine this with the Buddhist symbolism related to Silver Snow, how the devs said the worldbuilding supports Silver Snow and the game frames the choices that unlock Safflower as changing the story, it’s ultimately saying Byleth has been tempted off the path of enlightenment.
Safflower is a route that’s supposed to look good on the surface. It looks attractive, but it’s ultimately tied to being the path of ignorance. Likewise from what we can gather about Byleth’s personality, it goes against what growth they had during White Clouds, even their own listed like of “reliable allies.” Not to mention @crushednugget‘s list of characterization differences between CF and the other routes, showing that while on the surface the characters remain the same there’s something off about them if they join the BESF.
But even with all that, I feel like part of the route was also still messed up in the translation. Edelgard is supposed to be lying to the player, her song confirms she does so during White Clouds, which in turn I feel argues Moe-gard is simply meant to be her attempting to manipulate the player. Because I’ve said this before, her gap moe is reversed in the English version, which treats the cuter side of her as the hidden side rather than than her more tyrannical actions benefiting a conqueror. Her being the red emperor is supposed to be the twist, but considering what we know about Rhea’s voice direction at Treehouse it feels almost like the change was deliberate. Likewise, removing the line that says she’s using an “information campaign” or changing it from “Edelgard is manipulating TWSITD” at Cornelia’s death to “Edelgard is dancing to TWSITD’s tune.” That last one I swear is one of the main reason’s people try to say Edelgard had no agency in anything. While parts of the script remain to implore the player not to believe what the attractive waifu is saying, parts that reveal the full extent of her lies were taken out. Hell, even the Hubert/Ferdinand ending, which stated Edelgard doesn’t have a close relationship with even her lover (tying into her support with Byleth saying Byleth has become cold and distant) was changed to her simply being jealous over how popular they were.
So, I think with this in mind the intent of Edeleth is clear. It’s supposed to be part of the trick the developers said they wanted to spring on the player, and while fighting Edelgard is supposed to be hard on the player during Silver Snow it’s also framed as the right thing to do. But Treehouse didn’t share this idea or didn’t get it, so they altered the text in places so that the gutpunch of “oh shit, I joined the bad guys” wasn’t as effective. Part of me thinks they worried about being labelled an incel fantasy like Rising of the Shield Hero was if Edelgard was left as the villainess who lied to the player, but that wouldn’t explain why they directed Rhea the way they did so I doubt that was the full answer.

I can't post URL in anon. Hence I mentioned to look at renisfan response to crushednugget re: the blackened scorch stuff. Cuz they explained it's based on the Zaharas chapter.
Well I think I found what you were talking about (thankfully they don't post that much lol)
I mean they said that a similar name is used for one of the music tracks in the game, which is used in the Zaharas chapter. So I don't know if that necessarily disproves a future DLC route...

Read crushednugget's posts about Doro. An anon created a saga where Annette hates Doro on sight! It was so glorious. Annie and Mercie are the paradox to that hypocrite! (An overachiever despite the crest and a former noble with a crest who... well that's more on the Empire. bUt KIngDoM bAD or some sh!t)
I've seen her posts. Believe me, as a guy who has met many women just like Dorothea throughout high school, I know for a fact how much of a hypocrite she is. Annette and Mercedes on the other hand try to see the best in people no matter where they come from. Everyone in 3H has drama surrounding them and Doro's biggest problem is being all about her looks and where she gets money from. Like dude, you sing, you have a talent, fucking use it.

Speaking of unification, the end of FE3/12 was so disappointing. FE1 ended with each country still being independent, which was perfect. But no, the sequel had to do a 180 so that Marth could rule over all of Archanea.
Especially since it comes with a...disturbing trend of putting female rulers back in their place: Minerva, Nyna, Sheena...
Like you would seriously want me to believe that Minerva would be happy to settle in a convent? But guys, she wasn't competent T.T. She couldn't rule like Michalis and it ended in an internal crisis.
But Sheena didn't want to rule. She just wanted to live as an "ordinary happy girl" UwU. Yes, Archanea gave us the wonderful Shiida, but Kaga's sexism shines here.
The worst thing is Michalis' ending in FE12. They wanted to keep him alive, fine, they did the same with Camus/Sirius after all. But he either gets to rule over Macedon again (so it means that there were no consequences for his actions unlike in the original game) or conquer another continent.
Perhaps they wanted to show that it realistically made no sense that an ambitious man like Michalis would give up on his dream, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. You can kill your father, be a tyrannical ruler, but don't worry, you will get your throne back or you will either get to conquer a whole new land. Yeah!
I would have made more sense if Michalis was the one to give up on everything and perhaps become a monk if they wanted to show that he was trying to atone. After all, he dies in the original version. It could have shown that the old him was indeed dead and that he was now going on a different path, thanks to Maria.
Yeah :/
The sheer fact that Michalis wasn't kept dead in the remake sort of pisses me - why keeping him alive after kind of saving Maria ?
Was it to have a "good end" where no one dies, or because you'd feel uwu for poor Michalis who :
Murdered his dad, had his youngest sister kidnapped, fought against another sister etc...
And as you said, what kind of message this leaves that he gets to survive to conquer other lands, after the mess he did in Archanea? Was it a joke or just to piss on the original writers ?
So between Kaga's sexism and the "but earl grey" nonsense from the "modern" devs really did a number of FE3/12 to me lol
The only character I can "realistically" see abandoning her throne is Nyna, because of the guilt she must feel regarding Hardin's fall but then I'm always reminded at that person @crushednugget found that said Nyna is responsible for the war in FE3/12 and I'm just...

Credit to @crushednugget as they highlighted Mercie's concern for Rhea; Mercie: The war is finally over. Seteth: Indeed it is, we can all go back to our lives. Mercie: If only it were that simple. I wish to work for the church, but my adoptive father wishes to marry me away. Rhea: Perhaps I can offer a loophole. Seteth: Oh no. Mercie: How? He wish to marry me off to someone powerful. Rhea: And what's more powerful than the archbishop? Mercie: *ding* Oh my! Seteth: I'm sorry- Mercie: I accept! :D
