So hi guys

I've been inactive lately despite me saying that im going out of hiatus, but as it turns out i'm gonna need more time thanks to school 💥

Funny story, Back in the early stages of this au, Player x Blank was supposed to be fluff and soft. i ended up finding that boring in 2024 and was about to scrap Player x Blank entirely because I couldn't pick a good trope for them that really stuck to me.

Until RECENTLY.

I have a knack for basing my au on irl relationship dynamics i have with people, and this new dynamic between Player and Blank is definitely going to be spicy

@rositasnowie has been seeing the whole situation unfold, and she'll KNOW what i mean (ROSITA, VOUCH FOR MEEE)

In other words, Expect something new between Player and Blank unlike how i've been interpreting them in the past ^^

oh and the whole cs2019 is gonna get a huge change in character and theme after s4. because the current plot was a little underwhelming for me.

Let's just say, there's gonna be allot of individualism, cooperation issues, a shit ton of miscommunication, and a ton of allies you'd never expect to ever be possible

I'm pretty sure you'd expect some of these changes, but i assure you that i have more up my sleeve than what i tell people ^^

I have a knack of straying away from predictable tropes and scenarios, and having direct copies of other franchises themes and other aspects as compared to what i've seen from other written works, not that it's a bad thing but i just prefer my au to be unique in a way that makes it canonically connected and realistic (with a few tweaks here and there)

i've been very discreet about it lately as i've noticed how people have been taking a lil too much inspiration from my work :') i'm happy that people are moved by what i make ^^ but i hope you understand that i don't wanna end up like Hazbin Hotel with a whole season being leaked 😭

There were moments in my life that could've made this au unachievable, but while i'm still breathing and my heart is still beating, i ain't giving up on this passion of mine.

This au had been my drive in life when i felt lost. and now with something to hold onto, when i feel lost, i can just retrace my steps back here ^^

I've met so many wonderful people in this community throughout my time around. their words kept encouraging me to continue. This post isn't just to announce that Blank x Player is gonna have something new, this is also a very big appreciation post.

I've vented my struggles and hardships to the people i know in this community. (IYKYK) and they've seen me grow from what i've told them. I've been inactive but that doesn't mean i'm out just yet.

I just wanted to say, thank you for being what kept me moving forward. if it weren't for this and everything that came along with, i wouldn't have made it far enough without getting lost.

Carmen Sandiego - Official Announcement Trailer

finished the new carmen sandiego game (at least, as far as it'll let me go) so rambly spoilery thoughts below the cut

i admittedly went in with pretty low expectations, but this game surprised me by surpassing them.

i actually highly appreciate the return to the old nostalgic world-hopping formula being mixed with more modern mobile-style minigames. said minigames are repetitive and by no means enthralling, but they're a decent way to break up the potential monotony of figuring out which country to go to next.

that said, ya'll really needed more countries on your list. this game would have felt far more expansive and globe-trotty if you'd had, like, at least twice as many cities on the roster.

also the circuit minigame specifically can go die in a fire

you're rewarded pretty well with references and in-jokes if you're a legacy fan who's been obsessed with carmen sandiego since you were a tiny tot in the 90s. the joke about the atom smasher from math detective had me in tears.

jacqueline hyde was extremely obvious to anyone who had ever played an old carmen game, and her just being sus in general was probably still obvious even to those who weren't aware of her existence from previous games. still, it was kinda satisfying just to see the twist play out.

not the hugest fan of the graphics style admittedly (2d-style point-and-click art my beloved i miss you) but i can live with it, and at least ur player character does look like a decent 3d approximation of the netflix show's carmen.

there's a couple ui-based plot holes/things that got overlooked (there's a section where player in the story can't communicate with carmen anymore but in the ui and gameplay he's still giving instructions to her), but this is minor and i personally was able to look past it.

the edutainment stuff was pretty good! i do really wish there had been a lot, and i mean A LOT more fun facts about a lot more countries, but what was there was very nicely implemented.

story was a bit of a mess and tbh i couldn't quite tell whether this was something that was supposed to have happened during cs2019 or after it ended. if it's taking place during the show, where are jules and devineaux? if it's taking place after the show, where are zack and ivy, and also why is chief a little too eager to jump to conclusions about us being evil? or maybe this is just another alternative universe, i could believe that. they did mention ann tickwittee and renee santz, too, so they're clearly folding even more older characters into the canon.

the final case is not actually out yet. sighs and cries.

overall score: 8/10. it was nothing revolutionary or mindblowing, but it was fun and educational and i could tell that the people who made it had some real love for the history of carmen sandiego. that was all i really needed from it, in the end. that said, i personally enjoyed it, but if you're not already a huge fan of the old cs games, i can't promise how well this will hit for you.

there was a poll a while back to determine who in CS2019 has the most transgender swag. Carmen won, which makes sense, but Julia got second place. While I think that headcanon was real and everything, im surprised that it got second place because i NEVER see trans julia headcanons in the wild

Aka a dumb yokai watch x CS2019 AU. She's a kleptomaniac thief who messes you up by stealing your things. (She will steal your loaf of bread.) I wanted a crossover AU and went fuck it let's post it on tumblr lets see the Carmen Ass Discourse fandom people go crazy. Is Yokai Watch even still relevant anymore? Whelp, she's slippery class and also later down the line Nate's cool ghost aunt :)

Miscommunication drama is one of my absolute least favorite things to see in a show/movie. I am eternally grateful that the CS2019 writers aimed higher, because for a show where misunderstandings among the different groups of characters drove a lot of the drama (i.e. ACME thinking Carmen was with VILE, VILE thinking Carmen was with ACME), communication within those groups, especially Team Red, was crystal clear. They respected each other and showed it by giving others the benefit of the doubt, hearing them out, and not jumping to conclusions at the drop of a hat.

'Twas beautiful, and I love the show for it.

Something I REALLY love about Carmen Sandiego is that the story NEVER relies on a miscommunication to drive the story forward.

So many stories are poorly written and it shows when they rely on someone jumping to conclusions/freaking out because of a miscommunication/believing a lie from an enemy/etc, to trigger tension and problems and thus move the plot forward or create issues for the main characters to overcome.

There's none of that in Carmen Sandiego. Everytime she is faced with a new fact, she investigates. When she finds out Shadowsan "killed her father", she did not run to him and start a fight, or try to attack him and ruin all the trust and communication skills they had built. She knows V.I.L.E. could potentially lie about this, so she investigates and finds hard evidence that he was indeed sent on that mission. And when it seems like it's true, she might be a bit accusatory towards him, but she is not needlessly violent - she wants the full story, and because they have built up trust throughout the season, he gives it freely. And while she does fact check by investigating ACME's records, she doesn't immediately doubt or throw aside his story because she wants to be mad or frustrated with him.

I just think it's all very beautiful, and it shows viewers what healthy communication can be (even with the guy who potentially killed your dad). It was really refreshing to see.

So I'm not on discord but what I do have are screencaps, educated guesses, and a list of portfolio websites for some of CS2019's background artists.

As a bit of forewarning, I've tried on-and-off to see if there were any visual clues to how exactly the various faculty classrooms work in relation to the building's outside, and the short answer is 'not really'. When it comes to the group faculty room, the best estimate I've been able to make for its location is that it's at the back of the main building on approximately the third floor, mostly based on this shot of Mechie in the doorway of the faculty room with the bottom curve of the school's atrium circle-window visible behind her (see arrow).

Technically that angle for the circle-window should probably line up better with the second floor

but there actually looks to be four floors total

and to have the faculty room on the third floor with a double-high ceiling seemed to be the best compromise between the above view behind Mechie and the fact that it also seems to include the top part of another (presumably the back of the school) circle window.

I did check to see whether the faculty room could somehow be in the topmost section of the atrium circle-window (because it technically wasn't visible in that second screencap), but the most complete image I could capture still did not seem to have anything consistent with setting an entire room up there.

Further confusing the issue are those rectangular side windows with the triangular mullions that apparently extend from the dais all the way to flanking the main door

because that is night sky visible through them in at least two different episodes (S1E01, S01E08, and then a different angle of the faculty room as per S2E06 to compare to the 1st screencap, which was from the same episode), so it's probably not a goof. And while that view could be reasonable behind the faculty seats, and even around the sides to a certain point, I really don't know how that's supposed to work for the windows nearest the doors because this

is the corridor leading up to them. Please note its width, and also the absence of windows of any kind on either side of that door. (Also also the change in doorframe shape, although maybe that's just For The Aesthetic?)

and once again, I am not seeing any windows even remotely matching those of the faculty room. Personally, I've been going with Bellum having created some kind of pocket dimension because it makes about as much sense as anything else. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Otherwise, I would suspect that the classrooms/student-access areas are mostly on the second and first floor because both of these scenes

seem to take place on either side of the atrium at about a second-floor level given the shape of the railing both to their left plus above them (left screencap) as well as the crossbars on the windows to Black Sheep's left (right screencap). The third (+/- fourth) floor could then be a faculty-only area (possibly their living quarters), though that would be mostly based on the assumption of a boarding school style set-up rather than any true visual clues.

she was in the same building as the regular dormitories (possibly the single story section closer to the beach?)

though why she felt the need to make such a production of moving from what was essentially one wing of the building to another, that I cannot say. ;D

anyone wanna help me theorize and map out the inside of vile academy??
