i’ve been meaning write up a psoh fic rec post for a while anyway so here we go!!! this is short-ish bc i could ramble on forever about psoh fics and i have SO MANY FAVES so this only is the cream of the cream of the crop, but if you’d like some more you need only ask! (also lacking my ffn faves because i currently don’t have my bookmarks on me sob sob)

i REALLY can’t recommend this one enough. it’s only available on mediaminer nowadays and afaik telanu herself no longer has access to it but it’s sooooo worth it to go there and read that glorious fic, it’s my absolute fave in this fandom and across several others. i’ve already saved this fic a thousand times over just in case the site dies anytime soon because i can’t picture my life without being able to read this fic again.

other people might also recommend you unwilling sleep by the same author, and while her writing style remains excellent, ss has ruined me for everything else. i got legit fic hangover after reading it, but absolutely DO take a look at all the other fics by telanu, they’re all incredible. features truly fantastic banter, excellent smut, and beyond amazing characterization. 

i can legit quote whole parts of this fic by heart, that’s how much it stuck to me.

It - something by Litaraniel

oh man. this one has a dreamy sort of writing, if that makes sense? it has a completely different writing style from most prose you’ll find out there, written in sort of-- bursts of thought and feeling, and it’s truly excellent. The style is perfect for this fic and really delivers you a full-force punch in the throat by the end. it’s a fic i just keep coming back to time and time again.

full disclosure: it’s a carmen san diego crossover. DON’T let this put you off, however, because it’s one of the best fics this fandom has to offer. i haven’t watched carmen san diego at all and i can guarantee that once you get past the first scene (featuring csd characters only, which initially made me turn away because i wasn’t into it), you’re golden. it’s legit so gooooood, with tons of pining and d/leon chasing and great characterizations.

yeah yeah i know, two recs by the same author in a row but can you blame me? thursdaystgiles is one of my favourite psoh writers and her style is excelleeeeent. fair warning, this one is mostly smut, but i’m always a slut for intelligent leon who can keep up with d plus the tension written between them is a++++

cheloya is the the absolute QUEEN of papa d/vesca and if you’re also into that you’re in for a treat because she’s got TONS of that! this oneshot is one of her d/leon works, however (featuring papa and chris) and it’s such a loving slice of life fic, i always melt a little bit whenever i reread it. her papa characterization is always a treat to read, and there’s so few fics where he actually interacts with d and leon (particularly in a family-like setting instead of a villainous one) that this one is an automatic fave. you can really taste the found family of d&leon&chris on this one.

i’ve laughed SO HARD with this fic, honestly. when i’m in a mood for a short reread of one of my faves, this is the go-to that always leaves me satisfied and gets me in the mood for reading more psoh stuff. it’s semi-epistolary and the letters are mostly short and easy reads with plenty of normal prose in-between, so even if you tend to dislike the epistolary style this won’t bother you. the prose is light and hilarious and GREAT, i’m rereading the fic as we speak and the urge to quote every few sentences is huuuuge. the whole squid exchange in particular always sends me into hysterics, i love this fic to death and back

i’m forever grateful nym acceded to reposting this fic on ao3 years after it stopped being up. it’s one of my favourite psoh fics, and my favourite by her (you’ll see many other fic recs listing her fics Beauty and Drive, but for me this one - THIS ONE - is the cream of the crop). it’s a fic that explores a lot of leon’s psyche when even he doesn’t know himself, lovely and heartbreaking in parts, and it resonates deeply. i’ve written pages upon pages of comments on this fic so it’s probably best if i don’t start rambling about this or i’ll never stop skldhflksdjglkjds

I’m a little bored so I’m going to make a post about what’s going on in the spanish second league division. I’m from A Coruña and a Depor fan so this might be a little biased. And my info comes from twitter accouns mostly so I might miss something.

Last monday (July 20th) was the last matchday, and most of the matches were going to be played at 21:00 (9pm) because there was still a lot to be decided. Depor, Lugo, Albacete and Numancia were trying to save themselves while Fuenlabrada, Elche and Rayo were fighting for the last playoff spot.

In the fight for relagation: Lugo and Albacete only needed to win to be safe. Depor needed to win their match and one out of Lugo and Albacete to lose or draw, while Numancia needed to win and at least two of the other three teams to lose. There are most complicated scenarios with draws but that’s mostly it. 

In the fight for playoffs: Fuenlabrada needed to win their match to get the last spot. If they lost and Elche won, the playoff spot would go to Elche. And Rayo needed to win, with Fuenlabrada losing and Elche not winning their match.

And then this is what happened:

July 20th

Fuenlabrada arrive in A Coruña at about 11 that morning

Around 19:30 (7:30 pm) Depor start making their way to the stadium.

About the same time it starts to be reported the some of Fuenlabrada’s players (6 or 7) are COVID positive and all matches might be cancelled. The first report came out of a newspaper from Cadiz (in the south of Spain, A Coruña is in the north).

At 19:53 it is announced that the only match that’s being suspended is Deportivo - Fuenlabrada. Every other match will be played normally, including Elche’s, who had played against Fuenlabrada just a couple of days before.

This same reporter says at 20:30 that the match will be played July 30th, and the playoff game dates are also moved back to accomodate this.

There’s an obvius health risk for everyone involved. Also, no one (except Fuenlabrada)  is happy about the decision because the matches are played at the same time for a reason, and now the competition is adulterated. Depor is not happy that the other teams are playing without the pressure of knowing the result and the fact that they might relegate without having a chance at playing. The other teams involved are unhappy that Depor and Fuenlabrada will have the advantage of playing knowing the all the results. 

There could happen some ugly situations: 1. Depor’s rivals win so by the time the match is played Depor is already relegated, but Fuenlabrada still has a chance. 2. Fuenlabrada’s rivals lose so Fuenlabrada knows they have the playoff spot before the match, while Depor’s rivals don’t win so Depor still has a chance. And 3, and worse, the was a combinations of results that could lead to Depor and Fuenlabrada only needing a draw to save themselves and get the playoff spot respectively.

Rayo Vallecano are the first to put a statement showing their indignation with the decision at 21:00, right before the matches start.

Depor’s team find out about the COVID positives and the match being cancelled already at the stadium. Fuenlabrada never showed up and there’s also reports that the referees also didn’t show up (even though the decision was taken just an hour before the match was supposed to begin).

While the matches are at halftime, Fernando Vazquez (Depor’s coach) gives an interview to Movistar, who post a tweet with a video about it (This tweet was deleted the next day). At that time, the results of Depor’s rivals were favourable to Depor, yet he still said this: “We feel at a disvantage” “We don’t understand the way LaLiga communicated” “All the matches should have been suspended” “I don’t understand how Elche is playing (the last team to play againts Fuenlabrada” “Lugo and Albacete are playing with an advantage” “The competition has been vulnerated”

A couple of minutes later Depor also put out a statement in their Twitter.

In the second half of the matches Numancia is winning their match, Lugo is winning their match, Albacete is drawing. 

90th minute, Albacete get a penalty (I haven’t seen it but people say it’s a questionable one and I think VAR was involved). Lugo and Albacete have won their matches, so Depor and Numancia are relegating to 2ªB.

If Fuenlabrada wins their match next week against a team that has just been relegated to 2ªB they get the playoff spot.

People are angry.

A report comes out that one of Fuenlabrada’s player had dinner with one of Rayo’s player last saturday, breaking the COVID protocol.

Depor say they are very unhappy with what’s happening, will take the matter to justice, and are considering not showing up to the July 30th match. At that moment they’re still asking for the whole matchday to be repeated, obviously the teams that saved themselves don’t want that.

Fuenlabrada try to leave A Coruña and go back to Madrid (more on this later). Galician health authorities say no, you’re staying in quarantined in the hotel.

A report comes out that Javier Tebas son is one of Fuenlabrada’s lawyers. Tebas is La Liga’s president. Tebas who had said back in May that it was impossible that a football team would have five positives because that would mean there was negligence or someone had broken the rules. Fuenlabrada got 6 positives (and counting).

There’s also multiple reports that Fuenlabrada’s players didn’t stay in the hotel the day of the match (before the positives were public knowledge) and were walking around the city. The team has later denied this, but some people on twitter are saying they were in their shops, some kids have autographs, etc.

July 21st

There have been multiple reports about what’s happened, so as a summary: before the travel from Madrid to A Coruña, Fuenlabrada knew they had positives (a player and some staff were left in Madrid). As soon as they knew the whole team should have been quarantined. They traveled knowing there were positives and didn’t inform authorities until after the news started breaking out. A Courña’s major says she is very concerned with the reports and will take legal measures if neccesary.

Depor change the approach, and are now asking for the league to have 24 teams (2 more spots, so Depor and Numancia wouldn’t relegate).

Tebas says the matchday won’t be repeated and that Fuenlabrada traveled because they didn’t have positives (which as stated above, they had). He also says the competition is not adultered. 🙃

Numancia is also asking to the league to have 24 teams.

Depor says again if there aren’t any changes, they won’t play the match.

Fuenlabrada and reporters close to Tebas start saying people don’t care about their players and put ironic tweets saying the players are well and thanking everyone for their concern. (And to that I say people care about them as much as they cared about the airport, bus and hotel workers as well as the people of the city when they traveled knowing they had COVID positives). Fuenlabrada also put out a statement saying everything A Coruña’s major said is fake.

Galician’s government (A Xunta) is also asking for the league to have now 24 teams.

Tebas says the decision to suspend the only match was a good one for Depor and they can’t be angry about it. (As a reminder, they were angry about it from the first minute, before they knew what would then happen in the other matches).

Tebas is still saying all the protocols were followed.

Isaac Fouto (the journalist above) says Elche (the ones that will get the playoff spot if Fuenlabrada loses) will demand Depor if they don’t show up to the match against Fuenlabrada and Depor will face sanctions. Elche later deny this and say they support Depor (their president says Depors arguments are understandable and legitimate).

The first positives in Fuenlabrada showed up on saturday, the Consejo Superior de Deportes (Government of Spain) were not informed until monday and A Xunta isn’t informed until an hour before the match is supposed to start. A Xunta are the ones who have to deal with new coronavirus outbreaks in Galicia 

July 22nd

A report comes out saying Fuenlabrada asked two hours before the match was officially canceled for their flight back to Madrid to be moved forward. So Fuenlabrada knew they weren’t playing at 17:00-18:00, Depor go to the stadium at 19:30 with no idea of what’s going on and the match is officially cancelled at 20:15. A Xunta is informed at that time and they forbid Fuenlabrada from leaving.

Fuenlabrada’s major says he support the team against A Coruña’s major accusations, and says they weren’t negligent in any way.

LaLiga says the match wont be played July 30th, they are looking for another date and the playoff games will be pushed back further.

I mentioned before a Rayo player dining with a Fuenlabrada one on saturday. He put out a statement confirming it and saying he found out on sunday about the positives and informed his team and took measures. He deleted that and posted it again changing sunday for monday.  

Fuenlabrada’s team president says after the first positives in Madrid, the whole team took more tests. They traveled to A Coruña monday morning without knowing the results of those test, and they found out the results monday at 18:00 (6 pm). (The same time they were making arrangements with the flight back!)

Tebas now says he is stepping away from any decision about the match due to his son involvement with Fuenlabrada.

CSD put out statement criticizing LaLiga and Fuenlabrada for their acts and misinformation.

They want to to sanction Fuenlabrada without the 3 points declaring Depor as the winner of the unplayed match. This would mean Elche would get the playoff spot, but Depor and Numancia are still relegating.

LaLiga insist that they will soon announce the new date for the match to be played.

July 23rd

If any of the implicated teams takes the case to court, is possible there would be precautionary measures taken and the playoffs would not be played until there is a sentence. This means no La Liga (including the 1st division) until this is solved. Depor has already asked for this.

Fernando Vazquez is asking Depor fans to pressure LaLiga and to not give up.

LaLiga says they are not giving in to the 24 team demands.

Tebas says the match will be played.

Another 5 of Fuenlabrada’s players/staff get a COVID positive result. Fuenlabrada are still saying people don’t care about their players, and poor them that they have to be in hotel in a city away from home.

Fuenlabrada’s health people say the team shouldn’t have travelled and should have entered quarantine as soon as the first positives showed up.

Tebas says he is sad and thinking about resigning.

Fernando Vazquez says the protocol LaLiga followed in regards to COVID was approved against the opinion of all LaLiga’s doctors.

July 24th

A Coruña’s major has taken the case to the courts.

The prosecution opens a criminal investigation on the matter.

One of Depor’s doctor says he is helping Fuenlabrada’s people in the hotel because they traveled without their doctor. A team can’t play without their doctor. This means they possibly knew the match wouldn’t be played before they travelled, but they still did putting lots of people at risk. 

One of Fuenlabrada’s players had to be taken to a hospital after he fainted, but reports he is non in danger.

More people say they saw Fuenlabrada’s players outside the hotel during the first day.

Fuenlabrada’s president says La Liga knew about the first 4 positives and made them travel to A Coruña anyway. (And  no one thought to inform the authorities)

Numancia has asked again for the 24 teams league and are also asking the RFEF (the federation) to say something on the matter.

Tebas son is still saying the players who traveled weren’t in close contact with the first postives. As I’ve written before, Fuenlabrada’s health people said yesterday that they did.

I'm Brave's friend. I'm here to help share awareness about a situation that occurred in CSDS.

On January 26, 2022, a group of users joined CSDS (Chicken Smoothie Discord Server). Upon entering, the mod team began to respond with strongly disliking them. (Pictures 1-7) There was one user that the team kept singling out (Tifa) and were actively eager to get her out of the server due to her "rude behavior." (Pictures 8-12) The team strongly associated her with being affiliated with the group of users that joined together. The screenshots show the conversation the staff team has in regards to these users. Their behavior is disrespectful since they've been opposed to these users for no reason since they joined, other than "they look like a clique and they're being too active by talking :("

The files named "mew1" and "mew2" are screenshots of Mew publicly posting that she had just banned several users with the excuse that they were "raiding" the server. This is untrue because this is just an accusation and conclusion her and the entire staff team jumped to.

Once the team bans 8 users on the accusation that they are raiding, BraveScorpion24 addresses Mew publicly. (Pictures 24-25) Mew pings Brave in the staff chat, tells him to not "do that in public in front of everyone". Brave remarks that Mew did the exact same thing when exposing who Mew had banned. Brave wants to publicly share why he was demoted, exact words taken from Mew. (Picture 40)

Although CSDS did openly admit their mistake and have unbanned all the users (allegedly), Brave believes it isn't fair that the CSDS staff team actively makes mistakes like this that go completely unheard of. This case is the worst offense by far and costed him his position in the server.

The main points that he'd like to share is - 1) The CSDS staff team regularly develops unfair biases towards users. 2) The CSDS actively takes action against users based on little evidence, that usually favors their biases, and in this case, banned at least 3 other members who weren't at all affiliated with the group of friends that were accused of "raiding." (Tifa, Xavage, and (unnamed.))

FIle 25, 26, 27 - User BraveScorpion24 being confronted by Mew due to him publicly addressing Mew, even though Mew initially had put the banned users on blast. File 30 - Included to show that at least one user was banned even though they did absolutely nothing. File 40 - Taken from BraveScorpion24, Mew DMing him about his demotion from the staff team. Bans 1-4 - Censored to maintain privacy of banned users.

Women rally behind TrinamoolElection after election, women voters have continued to ally themselves with Mamata Banerjee’s party

Of the various factors that contributed to the Trinamool Congress’s victory in the Assembly election, the support of women voters for Mamata Banerjee is significant. And this is not new for this election — even in polls held during the last decade, women have always come out in support of Mamata Banerjee. Not only have women voters managed to bridge the turnout deficit vis-à-vis men, but their voting preferences have also been different. For the fourth straight election in the State (counting both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections), women voted for the Trinamool in higher proportions than men.

According to the Lokniti-CSDS post-poll survey, the gender gap this time was to the tune of four percentage points, slightly lower than in the past, but still significantly large. While 46% of men voted for the Trinamool Congress, two points lower than the party’s average vote share, among women voters, support for the Trinamool Congress touched 50%. This higher-than-average voting for the Trinamool among women also meant that the ruling party got a far bigger advantage over its principal opponent, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), among women than men. For men, the Trinamool Congress was ahead of the BJP by six percentage points, and among women, the Trinamool’s lead over the BJP was twice as high at a massive 13 percentage points.

Women voters seem to have been instrumental in driving up the Trinamool Congress’s seat numbers. A somewhat similar trend was witnessed in the 2016 Assembly election, when the Left Front-Congress alliance had trailed behind the Trinamool Congress by just two percentage points among men voters but by 12 percentage points among women.

The question that arises is, what has attracted women voters towards Mamata Banerjee election after election? It seems that many welfare schemes specifically targeted at women, like Kanyashree, Rupashree or bicycles for girl students, that the Mamata Banerjee-government launched during its tenure, may well have enhanced her popularity among women voters. Further, the fact that Ms. Banerjee has given greater representation to women in her party and government could also be making her more popular amongst women. This election saw the Trinamool Congress giving tickets to as many as 50 women, five more than the 2016 election.

A number of schemes

Another possible explanation for the Trinamool doing exceedingly well among women voters this time could be the party’s election manifesto promise that it would provide a minimum monthly income to the woman head of every family — ₹500 for those from the general category and ₹1,000 for those from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and OBC families. The Trinamool’s vote share among Dalit women was five percentage points more than it was among Dalit men, seven points more among upper-caste women, and 13 points more among Adivasi women.

Another category of women that particularly stood out in its support for the Trinamool this time was that of elderly women aged 45 years and above. Over half of them voted for the Trinamool and only some, about a third, opted for the BJP. Women from the poorest backgrounds also emerged as Trinamool’s strong supporters. Interestingly, the only category of women that ended up siding more with the BJP than the Trinamool in this election was that of upper-class women.

In the past year, many police stations around the country have adopted drones to assist with public safety. Oxford’s Emergency Management and Homeland Security Director Jimmy Allgood hopes police can use drones’ impressive capabilities to see beyond the normal eye and keep more citizens safe. He hopes to soon implement drone use within the Oxford Police Department.

“They’re great for public safety because you can monitor crowds, you can monitor traffic, search and rescue those types of items, but if misused, then you get into an invasion of privacy issue,” said Allgood.

Allgood says professional drone use, if regulated, can be a innovative and life saving form of policing. Ji Hoon Heo, an Ole Miss journalism professor and one of the university’s certified drone pilots agrees.

“If you can save a life by putting out a metal flying thing in the sky and scouting before actually getting there, let’s say there’s supposed to be some explosive or car about to explode… you can put it up in the air and you can see before sending men out there,” Heo said.

Heo says law officers can use drones to potentially save lives and make policing more efficient.

“I think that’s valuable ’cause even if you save one life, I think it’s definitely worth it,” Heo said.

A report from the Center for the Study of the Drone (or CSD) at Bard College identified nearly 350 police, sheriff, fire and other public safety agencies in 43 states that have recently acquired drones.

Oxford public safety officials are currently in the research phase and are looking to use the experience of other cities to determine appropriate drone use.

And then, those who do the bullying are often in the majority and “close ranks” so it can be almost impossible to get at the behavior. That is why Principal Tim Hadley’s (@MrHadleyHistory) stand against bullying by shaving his head is so remarkable. His unique solution changed the conversation at his school, showing us that we educators really do have an opportunity to change the conversation.

When a little boy, Jackston, came to school with a bald head in support of his grandfather with cancer and was picked on, Mr. Hadley’s unconventional solution has gone viral, and rightly so. GRID IE Breaks Ground on Community Solar Project

GRID IE, a subsidiary of GRID Alternatives, a company that focuses on making clean, affordable solar power and solar jobs accessible to underserved communities, was awarded a $2.05 million grant under the California Department of Community Services and Development (CSD) Low-income Weatherization Program and recently broke ground on its largest community-scale solar project to date.

The nearly 1 MW solar electric system on the Santa Rosa Band of Cahuilla Indians reservation – California’s first low-income community solar project – is currently underway. This project will provide $5.4 million in savings to benefit low-income members of Anza Electrical Cooperative (AEC). 

AEC will offer bill credits to qualified low-income residents, enabling low-income co-op members to significantly reduce their energy bills. They will also maintain full ownership and responsibility of the solar array and its output.

AEC is slated to do some electrical upgrades including installation of new power poles and transformers to support the influx of energy. According to the agreement with AEC, approximately 38 qualified low-income Santa Rosa Band of Cahuilla Indian Tribal members and an additional 150-250 low-income AEC members within the boundaries of the cooperative will receive a credit offsetting their electric bills.

“We are excited to break ground on California’s first low-income community solar project,”  says Jaime Alonso, executive director of GRID IE.

“The partnership between the Santa Rosa Band of Cahuilla Indians, Anza Electric Cooperative and GRID Alternatives will provide clean energy, job training and bill savings to tribal members and the surrounding community who are not currently able to benefit from existing low-income solar programs,” Alonso adds.  

The first phase of the project included site grading/clearing, erosion control, surveying, location staking, receiving of piles and some racking materials, and pile driving. The second week of this phase will include continuation of pile driving, trenching, AC/DC sub work, receiving more equipment and materials and a site walk through to assess the progress. The project is expected to be completed in the fall.
