Here are our official prompts for Player Appreciation Week 2022! Thank you to everyone who filled out the interest check. Our official dates for posting will be Sunday, February 27th - Saturday, March 5th. You can find the transcription of the prompts as well as the rules for the event below.

*Rules and Guidelines*

1. Since this event is Player Appreciation Week, all works must be Player-centric. They don’t necessarily need to be Player POV, but the character's platonic relationships with Player must be at the heart of the piece.

2. No romantic ships, please. Exceptions are for Player’s parents and Carmen’s parents, but the platonic and familial bonds should still be the focus.

3. This event accepts a wide variety of mediums and types of work. Any form of fan content is accepted so long as it follows the rules and is posted during the event. WIPs or continuations of previously posted works are more than welcome!

4. For fics: All fanfiction should be posted to Ao3 and will be added to the Player Appreciation Week (player_appreciation_week) collection on Ao3. You can either do this yourself when posting, or a mod will send a request to add it after receiving notification of the work. As for tags, use Ao3's checkbox warning system. Please do not select "Choose Not To use Archive Warnings" or your work will not be reblogged. For any other trigger warnings your fic may require, add those via the additional tag section and use the generic tag that pops up in the drop-down menu as you type (ie, "self-harm" or "child abuse"). If you would like to have your fic promoted on the Player Appreciation Week Tumblr, please follow the posting instructions listed for "other mediums" below.

5. Other mediums: All non-written work should be posted on or linked to Tumblr, including tagging @PlayerAppreciationWeek in the body of the post and #csplayerweek2022 in the tags. You must also list any major trigger warnings in the tags as "tw [triggering topic]". If your work has any sort of content that you would consider above a T or PG-13 rating, please put it under a 'read more' cut.

6. If your piece does not meet all of the requirements listed above, it will not be included in the Ao3 collection or reblogged on the official Player Appreciation Week Tumblr.

Posting on the day of your prompt is preferred, but we get it's not always possible, especially if your piece fills more than one prompt. The event’s Tumblr will continue to reblog any remaining content through the week following the end of the event. There is no formal commitment required for this event. Do as many or as few as you’d like or are able to.

For Day 7 of @playerappreciationweek, free day! (Cutting it about as close to the deadline as I can, per usual lol) So this is ALSO in that one au that I’ve started to call the “Everyone is broKEn” au cause legit no one is okay in this thing haha. This one takes place before my “So Long As You’re With Me” fic pretty shortly after they get Player back. This is a simplified version of what I was hoping for/what the scene actually is, cause this would actually be right after the team had (forcibly) taken care of Player’s arm. Unfortunately, my inner critic being particularly noisy combined with the tight timeframe meant adding the blood/gauze/treatment supplies just wasn’t going to be an option for this time. I’d loved to tackle it again sometime, but my brain has clearly announced it needs a break from looking at this. I can’t blame it either haha. For any of you artistis out there, I converted my vector sketch to raster before the lineart was ever mostly finalized. Much regret and much time wasted cause of that, but I’ve learned my lesson to always keep my lineart in vector form until I’m sure I’m done. But hey, it was an interesting experiment at the very least. Okay so! For anyone who wants to know the exact story behind this scene (and hasn’t read the fic), basically the gist is that VILE kidnapped and brainwashed Player instead of Carmen. Team Red hears about ACME’s helmet and that it might be able to snap Player out of it, so they steal it and confront Dark!Player. In the fight/process of forcing the helmet onto Player, Carmen accidentally cuts his arm pretty bed, but the helmet works... mostly. Player gets his personality back for the most part, but his memories are still gone and replaced by VILE’s implanted ones. Which essentially painted Team Red as sadistic murderers who liked to play mind games with their victims. This scene is after the team gets Player out of public and somewhere they can patch him up. He thinking they’re trying to hurt him more, so he’s kicking and sobbing and fighting for all his life. Shadowsan has to hold him still forcefully so they could bandage the wound. Player is a mess at this point, starting to accept that he’d someone escaped his old abusers who’d messed with his mind only to fall into potentially worse hands. Player basically is beginning them to not kill him and Carmen can’t take it. After 6 months of frantically searching and then finally getting him back, it’s only to have him injured by her hand and thinking they’d purposefully hurt him more. It’s a rough time. (After this scene, they realise the bleeding is too much for the bandage to handle and so they actually need to undo it to give him stitches which does... not go over well.) Okay that’s so much, but yes! If you want to know the later on of this au (like 2 months later and then another month or so after that), you can check out the fic and the art . I know, there’s a big jump, and the last one barely even seems like the same story haha, but yeah, the au gets wild.

For Day 4 of @playerappreciationweek! Full version (with blood) is below read more cut. Click for better quality. :) Wow, me whumping someone other than Player? Crazy, I know. So, for anyone who read my Day 1 Carmen fic, As Long As You’re With Me, this scene actually takes place in that same au! It’s a wild one, haha, and this takes place a fair bit after that scene. And since I hopefully want to explore this or other later parts of this au in writing, I’ll be vague on the explanation of this scene and just let you know that Zack took a bullet for Player. There’s a loT behind the why of that but I’ll let y’all wonder for now haha.  Anyway, click the “read more” button to see the version with blood! I wouldn’t say it’s graphic cause there’s not really detail, but there is color. There will be another piece coming in this au that comes from a scene prior to the fic too, which will be colored, so hopefully that should be coming in the next day or so!

I want to do something short for Player Appreciation Week, preferably regarding Chase, Julia or Team Red, or even them all combined (with Player as the focus ofc). But I'm lost on ideas. Just something simple, light hearted that isn't too technical. But I'm just stumped. I keep rehashing the same thoughts over and over again and nothing is peaking my interest. Anyone got any ideas?

Summary:

Player is twelve years old when his parents go missing while searching for other magic users like themselves, desperate to find others that are a part of their dwindling population. After not returning, Player resolves to go find them, even though he's not supposed to leave the village without passing his magical trials, say nothing of going alone.

Now reaching the end of his journey, Player finds the answers he seeks, only for everything to be more awful than his village elders ever warned him about.

It's going to take a lot to salvage anything out of this horrific situation Player's found himself in.

Finding a friend is a start.

Hello Carmen Sandiego (2019) fandom!

It has been one year since the finale season aired and we are eager for more content. To help remedy this, we are hosting a Player Appreciation Week. The week will be celebrated by a character prompt for each day. That day will be the focus for participants to create fanworks based on the platonic relationship between Player and that character. Any amount of participation, as little or as much as you'd like, is welcome!

Why Player?

Because he’s our favorite character and we want to celebrate that by encouraging more fan content!

In addition to that, Player provides some interesting opportunities for exploring character interactions. As Carmen’s best friend, he knows everyone but not everyone knows him. So the prompts can be used for interactions or relationships we’ve seen on the screen or for exploring new ones.

^^Taken five seconds before Player leans out a little too far and tips them both into the water. RIP Player’s phone. Hey guys! I know, two art pieces consecutively? And both angst-free? Crazy. But also look, I just want Player to get to have some fun with Carmen and the others in person. Poor kid must get pretty lonely haha oops there goes the angst-free part. By the way, if this looks familiar, it’s probably cause the lineart was included on my 2021 art summary! I had a lot of fun experimenting with textures and stuff in the sky and water and am pretty okay with how they turned out! That being said, I could see myself returning to this one after more practice to add some more lighting to the rest of it, so don’t be surprised if it pops up again sometime! Anyway, I’m actually posting this as a bit of a celebration and thank you for all the support for the @playerappreciationweek event! We’ve been ecstatic to see all of the submissions on the interest check coming in and are really excited for this event. For anyone who hasn’t heart about it yet, this will be a week-long prompt event focusing on Player and his platonic relationships, and is open to basically any type of artistic creation! Previews: Countdown to Posting

Preview:

“Player?” Shadowsan repeated. It wasn’t like the boy to not answer. “Are you there?”

Only silence replied, but it wasn’t the usual silence Shadowsan was used to hiding inside of on missions. This unexpected stillness felt…different. It felt wrong, as if it held a crushing sort of weight within it.

“Player, report.” Shadowsan’s voice was harsh and unyielding as the silence on the other end of the comm line stretched on. Their team couldn’t allow anything to happen to any more of them. After working with these kids for so long, Shadowsan had reluctantly grown attached to them. He didn’t want to entertain the thought of any more of them falling out of commission, especially not so soon after Carmen had been taken.

“I can’t believe you fell for that!” Player’s voice finally responded, but something was different. And it was closer. A lot closer, actually. The hairs on the back of Shadowsan’s neck stood up straight as he recognized the feeling of a presence behind him.

The man whipped around quickly, coming face to face with….

“Player?” Shadowsan’s jaw went slack just slightly as he took in the sight of the hacker casually leaning against the brick wall of the final building. Player looked exactly as he always did in all the video calls, save for one difference.

Day 4: Shadowsan or Player’s Parents! @playerappreciationweek This is a scene we brainstormed a while back that’s been stuck in my head where basically dark!Carmen has realized VILE brainwashed her but is still empathy-less for the most part. Player tells her truth in hopes of getting through to her, but instead, dark!Carmen really latches onto the fact that Chief was the one who killed her father, not Shadowsan. Long story short, Player’s not willing to help her kill Chief and dark!Carmen takes it as the ultimate betrayal since he’s claiming to be her best friend. Carmen contacts Shadowsan and uses Player as leverage to force Shadowsan into tracking down Chief for her. It’s all pretty complicated, so that’s more the cliffnotes, but there’s a lot of angst and whump, and Carmen and Player are both wrecks by the end haha. This drawing is actually the simplified version of what I’m hoping for, but my midterms have pushed me a couple days behind. The other version is more accurate to the scene in context  and that version + cleaning and hopefully color is still coming! I was originally hoping to write out the scene, so it wouldn’t surprise me if a long time down the road that happens too. Or a different scene from this AU, cause it’s an angstmonger.   Also, I think this may be the first sketchy thing I’ve posted? Not really sure, but I’ve got tons of art that’s in this messy style if y’all are interested. Most are pretty basic 30 min sketches though haha. Oops I should probably post the link to my day 1 first haha. Welp we’re going out of order cause I like to be as chaotic as possible apparently.​ As always, reblogs and likes are very appreciated, but please do not repost. <3

Hello Player fans!

We are blown away over the outpouring of positive responses we’ve seen from those of you who filled out the interest check so far (after it only being out for four days!). It gets us even more pumped for the Player Appreciation Week to come.

So we wanted to give you all a quick update and a bit of a preview on what to expect next.

As far as what we are looking for in terms of contribution to Player Appreciation Week, we are looking for anything. This includes, but is not limited to: any length of fic, new fics, fics you have already written and not posted anywhere yet, ongoing posted fics that are not finished but you add new chapters to, poems, artwork from doodles to team pics, mood boards, memes, etc. As long as the platonic relationships with Player and the others on the show are at the core of it, we are excited to see it.

Stay tuned to this blog in the coming days. As a thank you for your involvement so far and to keep up the excitement, we’re going to post some content over the next week and a half leading up to the start of the event. Our wish for you is that these get the Player gears turning in your minds before we all start brainstorming together.

Once the interest check closes on January 29, the prompts will be posted either on the 30th or 31st. Likely on the same post will be directions on how to join the Player Appreciation Week discord server. No commitment to create for the event is required to join the server, just an enthusiasm for wanting to see it succeed and interact with fellow Player fans.
