For a multitude of reasons, despite it still being a special interest, I haven’t actually drawn any DSMP stuff in like a year.

So I figured I’d bring it back by drawing some c!Tommy, as he is The Character Ever /pos

Here is the fella

I think this lore stream means more than I think we want to let on as a fandom.

To us, this server is everything. To every person who's ever sat down to watch, to engage, and become an active piece of the community, this is everything. There is no was, it is and will always be everything because you put in everything. You, the fanbase, wrote the story. You used experiences from your life and other media to write it and you collaborated to bring something out of the chaos. Something so beautiful I have convinced people who want nothing to do with Minecraft to give your art a chance. And they love it. Because it details so many experiences because it was written by and for the masses. That's more impactful and real than an individual experience.

The only part we seemed to never get past, unwrite, change into the narrative we want however, was the eternity of death. When a character dies we may have had headcanons or AUs but it was so clear they couldn't bare weight over the effect of death. Because to deny a character death is to deny the only gurantee.

And if you are writing a story that becomes a melting pot of who we are and you can't control death, what happens when we aren't done speaking when death finds it's way?

Tommy was never allowed to heal or settle down. He paid until the end. That's depressing. This story is a tale written by the masses with a depressing end - a hopeless end. The everything you put into this is stained with such sadness and was intended to never be picked up again. You were supposed to leave. They were telling you to leave a part of you.

So when they came back and they held you and told you but there was more. There is hope. There is healing. You can keep writing. Keep speaking. God that was everything. That was the ending you wanted. The ending that would let you move forward and experience death at your own time. Not when the world tells you.

People will be eternally loss. People will never come back from the dead, but all you need is the light at the end of the tunnel. Even just a sliver.

I miss technoblade. That's something I don't let myself say. Something I haven't said until now in fact. It hurt more when my sliver of light at the end of the tunnel was taken away. I'm happy my light, my hope in fact, is back. I'm happy I no longer have to live with the lie that I was happy it ended.

at the end of the day when people strip ctommy of his follower role it will never hit in the same way. it would be possible for him to grow and to learn to stick around with people in a way that doesn't keep him strung along and hurting, but you can't just remove that aspect entirely. ctommy being physically unable to give up on people is one of (if not THE) core part of his character. that's who he is. he doesn't know when to give up, on a joke that's gone old, on a country, on his brother he just CAN'T he's too ATTACHED . obviously it's codependent and it hurts him but i just. sometimes it feels like in fics where he detaches himself from cwil for example it feels cold and surgical . It would never ever be that easy for him it wouldn't just be "protecting my peace cutting toxic people off😘" that's not who he is and that's not who c!wilbur is either. they're both so messy and complicated and emotionally stunted that flattening them to a "guy who should drop off his toxic brother immediately" doesn't work. There's real love and care in there and i also think that it does a disservice to ctommy after a certain point in the story, when he's more jaded and mature and has a more accurate read on his life and situation and relationships, to assume that he's always just sticking around for people by default. of course sometimes it feels like the only thing he CAN do, but part of it is a choice. ctommy's fatal flaw is not giving up but he also makes the CHOICE of loyalty. he chooses to stay with people even when it hurts him sometimes. that's his personal choice and he knows firsthand the consequences. i'm not saying it's the right one or whatever i'm just saying we should acknowledge that as he grows up, i'm really talking towards the very very end of the story here, he has more autonomy than what we give him credit for. and i think it's more complicated than just "its hurting them both so they need to cut off contact forever". They are both very complicated. Ok ramble over

I will never get over the butch hartman dsmp drawings like there’s just too many things to choose from, like why is dream in the Mario pose? Why is ctommy 8 years old?? Also he can basically rip off the first google result for ctommy but somehow googling where the fuck quackity’s scar is is too much work? Why the FUCK is Wilbur a pirate? Literally they could write essays on this this and it still wouldn’t be enough to really get to the core of my issue with these

another thing is i gen think ppl don't realize how purposeful a lot of dsmp character's actions are and how shifting that around just blows an unmendable hole in whtever character it's happening to. like.....cq ONLY eats cschlatt specifically its Very On Purpose desperate messy thing and says so much abt their relationship tht cq isn't a cannibal on the regular, he's a cannibal for HIM.

another thing is: cq wouldn't have tortured just anybody. the prison is a v specific set of circumstances tht basically has cdrm glowing like a fornite gun for cq to beat w hammers like....it's v specifically cdrms chosen cruel actions tht lead into it, as well as wht happened w cscamduo being the REAL push for him to do smthng crazy. he wants to kill ctech outright, tries to multiple times, but he'll torture cdrm. what does that say?

cdrm wouldn't exile just anybody...it's a v specific control thing for ctommy. he isolates him in a v particular way, goes outta his way to hurt him and control him and "own" him in a way tht he doesn't do w anyone else, the wanting the discs n wht they mean fr tommy, the assisting cwil in his suicide to further isolate ctoms...even cboo is ultimately a tool he will discard as soon as its convenient while ctommy he NEVER stops stalking and talking about he doesn't let up on him At All. and he doesnt do this to anybody else. like srry to say you cannot move these things around :heart_hands_emoji: as they are core character traits. you just straight up lose crucial parts of wht make the dsmp and its moments impactful and special if you don't realize their narrative purpose. one love
