1, 4, and 10 for Cassie and Jaal

1. What drew your character to their LI and vice versa?Cassie loved Jaal’s optimism, the way he was so open and kind even in the face of everything they were up against. Yes, his voice was to die for, and yes, she loved his eyes and back and arms and hands and THIGHS, but it was that open goodness that really drew her in from the first.

Jaal was first drawn to Cassie’s curiosity. She was very open with her thoughts, for a human, and never hesitated to ask a question about angaran customs or Andromeda wildlife or a new puzzle. Being with her felt like seeing things he took for granted through new eyes.

4. Their favorite physical feature on each other? Does a voice count? Because from the first, Cassie loved Jaal’s. It’s hard for her to pick a favorite physical feature, honestly, but if she had to… his hands.

Jaal loves Cassie’s eyes and her lips. They’re both so different from an angara, but captivating in their own way.

10. Do they have pet names for each other?For them both, there aren’t any specific nicknames, mostly forms of endearment that would be generic if there wasn’t so much feeling behind it.

Jaal has many many names he calls Cassie. Taoshay is the one he likes best and that he uses the most, but he also calls her “darling one,” “love,” and several others.

Cassie isn’t used to the relationship thing or the pet names thing, but she uses them more as she becomes more comfortable in the relationship. She also likes taoshay, and also “love.”

A DAI question; I know you post a lot about DAI and TW3, so I was wondering, out of all the companions and characters from Dragon Age and The Witcher, which ones do you pair together as a romantic couple and why? (or maybe non-romantic too) //big fan of your incorrect quotes blog btw - have a nice day!

Great question! Sorry for taking so long, this was a really good question and I just wanted to sit down and really take my time to answer it! ♥ (bless anons like you who ask these fun, profound questions) 

I’m sure this answer is going to be long though, so I’ll just shorten it for the sake of people who might get annoyed, and hopefully others who’d enjoy reading why I ship certain characters with each other from TW3 and DAI can keep reading!

I haven’t thought of this that much, so some are kinda new ships to me. 

The Witcher Saga: 

Geralt of Rivia x Yennefer of Vengerberg. (duh, obvious) 

They go nicely together. Yennefer is a mirror reflection to who Geralt truly is, and I love their differences coming together to create a “wholeness”. Black and white, yin and yang, different but fits perfectly together. 

Triss Merigold x Eskel.

They are both quite sweet and mature in their outlook upon life. I think they’d just go nicely together, creating a tender and loving relationship. 

Cirilla x Crevan (aka Avallac’h the handsome fox).

Bet you saw this one coming. I understand why some people DON’T ship them, but entering their ship-boat, you never leave, honestly. They share a LOT of interesting history together. Similar to Yen and Geralt, they are extremely different from each other, but their differences complement each other so beautifully it creates a “wholeness” to their duo. I love other ships with Ciri as well (e.g Ciri x Cahir, Ciri x Cerys, Ciri x Voorhis etc) but I honestly can’t seem to find another person more suitable and worthy of her than Avallac’h. Ya ya, some people might debate whether or not he’s “good” or so, but I don’t think it’s that simple. I think they both share their own sides of good and evil. Avallac’h possess traits Ciri don’t have, traits I think she’s come to admire and aspire to, his wisdom for an example. Though reluctant, she seeks it. Avallac’h is so pragmatic, Ciri’s free spirit and her honest nature is so beautiful, and I think Avallac’h sees that, though he would never confess if he secretly admires her. 

Lambert x Keira. 

I love these two, they are so honest with each other, both sarcastic, they use humor as their shield, but are capable of great love. I think their relationship would be filled with sassy banter, laughter and passion. 

Cirilla x Voorhis/Eredin. 

If a ship with Avallac’h would be impossible, I definitely ship her with either Voorhis or Eredin. Voorhis would be the more “reasonable” and realistic choice, but personally I love complex, unique, relationships so I would definitely prefer her with Eredin. Let’s say their love would be mutual, that is. I think people who have read the books have seen a far more in-depth-side to Eredin and knows the games only let’s us see so much of his persona. Ciri is too good for him, and Eredin is quite literary, the opposite of her. But this duo would be interesting, though I doubt he would be the best match for her.

11. Do they have any inside jokes?Several. Fenris is funny, and Aliss really thinks that she is. When she can make him giggle it makes her whole day.

15. Does their view of themselves differ from their partner’s view?YEAH. Honestly, on bad days they both kind of hate themselves. But they both think that the other is amazing.

16. Jealous at all?Aliss is, sometimes, but she tries not to be. Her deepest fears are tied to losing people she loves. Even though she knows that Fenris loves her, and that she has nothing to worry about, there’s a little gut reaction whenever someone tries to get between them. She’s working on it, and over the course of their relationship does get better.

20. Did either person change at all, to be with their partner?They both do, I think, but not in a bad way. It’s more of a mutual growth. Aliss learns to be a little less brash and a little more patient. Fenris becomes better at communicating and more comfortable letting his guard down.

23. Did you tailor your OC for the other in the romance?

Yes and no. I usually start with a character, and then try to figure out who they’d be drawn to. Then I’ll tweak little things here and there to get the kind of narrative and dynamic I want.

I do have a handful of characters that I made with a few ideas about romance in mind, but for most of those it ended up changing because the character evolved and didn’t quite fit anymore. The ones that come to mind first would be Alanna Trevelyan (I don’t think she’s going to be with Blackwall anymore, but now that I’ve played the Templar questline, I think I like her with Barris) and Adrin Surana (I paired him with Morrigan, but now I’m rethinking the relationship on and off). None of the ones on tonight’s list, though.

9. How open are they with their feelings?This evolves throughout their relationship. The kind of connection they have at first--the physical one--required a lot of honest communication, but they both tried to deny for a while that there were feelings involved. As they got closer--definitely post-dragon’s tooth--they make a point of continuing that honesty. It’s hard for them both, sometimes; for Nymeria, because her life up until that point had had a lot of holding things in when she should’ve expressed them, and for Bull, because he’d made a career of keeping secrets. It’s something they work on, but they get better at it together.

If they clash, how do they deal?For a while, their main goals--sealing the Breach, stopping Corypheus, dealing with the events of Trespasser--are in line.They do clash sometimes, because their personal styles can be so different. Nymeria isn’t great at reading people, especially when it comes to emotion, and she’s really bad at expressing her thoughts when she thinks it might upset someone. Iron Bull is a (mostly former) spy who makes a scene when he thinks it’s useful. Most of the time, if they fight, they both take some time apart to collect themselves (not a lot of time, like a few hours or an afternoon) and then come back to talk about it. Like being open with their feelings, it takes some work to figure all this out.

17. Their ways of expressing their love.For Bull, sometimes the best way for him to express love is through distance. Nymeria is autistic, and sometimes contact can be too much, especially if she’s already overwhelmed or stressed. Bull’s skill at reading people comes in handy a lot for this; he’s very good at telling when she’s close to or over her limit, and when the best thing he can do is to set a heavy blanket and something to drink where she can reach it easily, and stay near but not too close.

For Nymeria, she expresses love through closeness. Being close to people has never been easy for her, but she has a level of comfort with Bull that she’s never really had before. She loves him, and trusts him to know her limits in and out of the bedroom. Both by sharing more with him than with anyone else, or even simple things like relaxing around him enough to enjoy casual, non-sexual touches. She’ll lean into him when they’re sitting together on her sofa, or initiate a hug with him because she’s comfortable enough for it.
