I’ve used several mice, from cheap to expensive gaming status, and this affects it all– especially in situations where you need to meticulously cut something out, or you’re brushing something so small and delicate on a mask. This mainly applies to those who use an actual mouse compared to a trackpad or tablet. If you whipped the mouse left and slowly dragged it right, starting and ending at the same spot, you’ll find your cursor in a different position from where you started! Go ahead and try it! It was originally implemented to help precision and help those who have issues clicking and dragging in a minimal amount of space, but if you’re not used to the acceleration, it can definitely throw you off. That sensation is called mouse acceleration– basically the faster you move the mouse the less distance your hand has to travel to get from point A on the screen to point B and the slower you move, the more distance you have to move the mouse to get from point A to point B. I really noticed it when I was younger and played video games that needed precision, and maybe you have experienced it too. If you’ve ever switched from a PC to a Mac, there’s no doubt that you’ve realized that moving the mouse just isn’t the same– like something doesn’t feel right.

STL musings

So... I said I’d finished the fic, right? Well. In the editing stage, it’s become apparent that I have too many subplots. Too many half-formed subplots. Adding this to the already existing problem of “this fic takes until Ch. 17 to hit the real action instead of the backstory”, and I’ve decided that I need to reshape/ rewrite the first half of the fic. All going well this will cull 5-6 chapters (and hopefully up to 50,000 words) from the total count, and start us off in a better place instead of needing to work our way there. 

HOWEVER. 

This means that May 4th’s premiere is now definitely a teaser/ prologue instead of a full chapter, and I have no clue when the rest of the fic will start being posted.

It is also proving rather difficult to write atm, because the first few chapters need an almost complete rewrite before I can start pulling bits from the previous version into later chapters. However, having characters not veer off on tangents is proving... difficult. (In other words, I’ve spent the past day or so working on a scene which I’ve now realised belongs in Ch. 3, not Ch. 2. Ugh.)

Here’s the Adult Swim schedule for Monday, September 23 to Sunday, September 29.

Last Final Space of the season. The Heart, She Holler and The Shivering Truth replace Sealab 2021 and Frisky Dingo at 4am, essentially transitioning that half-hour from an Adam Reed half-hour to a PFFR half-hour.

Addressing the elephant in the room here: Pete Smith Day is back. Instead of being celebrated on the 28th, aka the day he retired from Adult Swim, like the last two years, they’re celebrating on Thursday the 26th, just to avoid pre-empting any premieres. The schedule on Monday through Wednesday gets adjusted due to this, leading to a weirdly balanced schedule that ends up giving us some extra Rick and Morty reruns for two days. Less Bob’s Burgers than the past two years, yet more Brak Show compared to last year (even if its just repeating).

New Black Jesus on Friday.

Dragon Ball Super is nearing the end on Toonami, and to celebrate they’re airing a marathon after the penultimate episode airs this Saturday. The 10 most recent episodes (including a repeat of the one that premieres that day) air from 11:30p - 4:30a.

Season premiere of Robot Chicken on Sunday. Not even it is safe from the 2 episodes a week scheduling now.

Adult Swim loses 8pm next week, enjoy the culling of Rick and Morty reruns. Seriously. It’s gone on every day except Sunday (and I don’t even know if that’s definite).

EDIT: American Dad and the hour of Bob’s Burgers swap places at 9:00p on Sunday night for whatever reason. I’m not updating the pic to accommodate for it.

The 2018 Overlook Film Festival Announces Jury and Audience Award Recipients

Nightmare on Film Street was among the crowd of eager fans, industry, and filmmakers to descend on New Orleans, Louisiana for the The 2018 Overlook Film Festival – an insane weekend of genre films, parties and immersive events.

The Overlook Film Festival ran from April 19th to 22nd, staking headquarters in what is often toted as ‘the most haunted hotel in North America’, The Bourbon Orleans Hotel. The fest debuted 23 feature films, including world premieres like Darren Lynn Bousman’s St. Agatha, and Hans Stjernswärd’s The Farm. Audiences were also treated to screenings of Ari Aster’s eagerly anticipated debut Hereditary, Leigh Whannell’s futuristic genre-bender Upgrade, desktop thriller Unfriended: Dark Web, and gory crowd-pleaser Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, among others.

Now that the festival has drawn to a close and we’ve all reluctantly returned to our regular everyday life, The Overlook Film Festival has proudly announced the Audience and Juried Award winners, below.

As its second edition comes to a close, the Overlook Film Festival has the great pleasure of announcing its second year juried and audience awards. Culled from a stellar lineup of 41 films (23 features and 18 short films from 12 countries), the festival’s features and short film juries deliberated over the course of the event, publicly revealing the winning selections at the festival’s closing night screening presentation of A24’s HEREDITARY.

The features jury consisted of the Los Angeles Times’s Jen Yamato, Toronto Intl. Film Festival Midnight Madness programmer Peter Kuplowsky, and producer Toby Halbrooks (A GHOST STORY, PETE’S DRAGON). The jurors chose to honor director Joko Anwar’s SATAN’S SLAVES from Indonesia with the Feature Film Jury Prize. Additionally, the jurors highlighted Véréna Paravel & Lucien Castaing-Taylor’s CANIBA, giving it the festival’s scariest feature award.

Actress Barbara Crampton (RE-ANIMATOR, THE PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH),  New Orleans Film Society Artistic Director Clint Bowie, and filmmaker Misty Talley (ZOMBIE SHARK) comprised the short film jury. The jury awarded their prize to Anna Roller’s PAN  with an honorable mention going to Mariama Diallo for HAIR WOLF, and L. Gustavo Cooper’s AMY receiving the honor of scariest short film.

The Overlook Film Festival’s Audience Award for 2018 went to WOLFMAN’S GOT NARDS: A Documentary directed by André Gower.In addition to the film lineup, the Overlook showcased 6 live performances, 5 virtual reality experiences, 4 curated immersive theater productions, 3 panel presentations and 1 weekend long alternate reality game.

Discussing his experience at this year’s fest, The Overlook Film Festival’s 2018 Visionary award recipient Leigh Whannell said, “The Overlook Film Festival is a celebration of horror fandom, and I’ve been a horror fan for so long that to be recognized by the festival with an award is a complete honor. I’m happy just to be at this festival – hanging out with my fellow fans, watching amazing movies and taking part in the immersive games that are a staple of the weekend – that to take home a beautiful, shiny axe with my name engraved on it is merely the bloody cherry on top of it all.”
