The Curt Relicker and Montgomery are Moving Quietly Past

Relickers are the rag-and-bone men of Mr Cups. They salvage junk and occasionally pay for it. The Curt Relicker and his rat companion Montgomery deal in gossip and blackmail.

There are only six airworthy B-17 Flying Fortress left in the world out of the 12,731 produced, but not too long ago there were seven.

With Masters of the Air recently coming out, I’ve been thinking about the B-17 a lot lately.

Especially her.

Produced on July 12, 1945, Texas Raiders was one of the last 20 B-17s ever built yet she racked up 3,257 flight hours flying for the US Navy, the fifth most out of all B-17s. In 1967, she was bought and restored to wartime configuration, going on to fly airshows all over North America with the Commemorative Air Force.

On November 22, 2022, she was involved in a midair collision with a P-63 Kingcobra during the Wings Over Dallas airshow.

All five crew aboard the B-17 and the solo pilot of the P-63 were tragically lost.

We could sit and go over the details again and again, figure out why and how it happened, who was at fault, but that’s not our job. Leave that to the FAA. Flying in airshows, especially older warbirds, has never been without risk. They loved to fly, continuing the legacy of the B-17 Flying Fortress and those who served with her through living history. We can’t let ourselves be brought to the ground by the weight of their loss when they wanted nothing more than to keep ‘em flying.

All we can do is remember them.

ok i'm insane in the brain thinking about rosie's place in the mota hockey au cuz. yk.

actually talked about this w @swifty-fox earlier tonight but i need this on my fuckass tumblr

i'm imagining that his career started pretty roughly--getting skipped over in the draft because he didn't hit his growth spurt at that point and his stats weren't good enough for teams to risk picking up a guy as small as him. he's doesn't have something as crazy as a 50 goal season with his USHL team or anything but he's a solid forward, yet all the teams see is him being 5'9" and way too light

he does get picked up in the third round, but it's by a team that already has a pretty good lineup, so he plays one or two games in the pre-season and gets sent down to the ahl affiliate for that entire first year. he's a pretty optimistic guy, so he's not particularly broken up about it--he makes friends with his teammates, he works on his game, he finally hits that growth spurt and puts on weight he was lacking to really afford to play in the NHL

eventually he does get called up in his second year, a couple times at that, but it's not nearly enough for him to get properly developed to play in the show. UNTIL the team gets so many injuries the management have no choice but to call him and a few other guys up to salvage the rest of that season. he kind of gets going on the third line, puts up a couple goals, puts up more than a couple assists, gains confidence, but it's clear there's no place in the lineup for him once the guys he's replacing go off LTIR--maybe he doesn't click with his lineys as smoothly as the front office hoped, maybe it's just harder for him to get used to the big boy league, especially thrown into the fray like that, but either way the management finds him lacking. at that point all the goodwill he's had is quickly running out and he is frustrated that they just won't let him play, won't even throw him a bone and put him on the fourth line

he gets placed on waivers and the expansion team (WHATEVER THE FUCK WE'RE CALLING THEM IN THIS AU. winnipeg fuckin jets) scoops him up bc their gm is smart like that and they see the potential in him, plus they need all the help they can get to fluff up the roster with solid guys. and he plays the second and third line at first, but then their coach (btw is it harding or?.. lol) mixes up the lines and rosie gets placed with buck and curt and boom it just fuckin clicks baby. it just fuckin works. he secures his place on first line that season

he's definitely putting up more assists than goals--he settles into his role of the playmaker and gets going, plus he seems like a total giver to me. like, his biggest issue is probably not shooting the damn puck enough. but he is where he needs to be for buck or curt or whoever it is that's wearing the right jersey to slam it home, and it's just good fuckin hockey

Also probably not a good chirper. he tries though. he tries. got into One fight in his entire career that he lost but boy he sure went down swinging. makes sure to keep contact with all his previous teammates he's befriended and goes out with them whenever the team comes to their city. nobody in the locker room lets him put on his music because he puts on shit like wes montgomery and herbie hancock

the first time you met monty, you were fixing up some scratches on the paint of his bass. he eyed you, as you sat on the green room sofa, gently painting over the marks.

"so, you're the newbie at the 'plex, yeah?"

you glanced up at him for a second, considering his question before giving him a small nod. your incredibly brief response was followed by your focus falling right back to your task.

monty let out a slight huff, dissatisfied with your incredibly curt reply. you had barely even acknowledged him. his impatience was clearly getting the best of him, evident in the edge of his words as he spoke up barely even a second later.

"you got a name, or am i gonna have to keep callin' you newb–"

you looked up at him with a small smile, gesturing to the name tag pinned to your uniform shirt. your finger tapped its smooth plastic surface again for emphasis.

tap, tap.

he stared at the neat printed lettering of your name, mouthing it to himself before looking up at you irritated. did you just think he wasn’t worth your time? you had spared no words to him, even to introduce yourself. and just like he had never asked, he watched as you went back to finishing up your job.

you lifted the bass to the light, eyes focused on its shiny surface. your nose scrunched slightly as you examined it, trying to figure out whether the scratches were visible. after a few seconds, you deemed it well enough to hand it to him. you gently placed it in his grasp, smiled– and got out of the green room before he could say a word more to you.

before monty had known you, you were just the quiet, no-name human employee, present during early morning shifts before opening, or after closing shifts in the late night.

you mostly took care of small tasks– but every so often, you were trusted enough to do little bits of maintenance on the glamrocks. basic things like touching up chipped paint, or replacing broken or missing accessories.

more than usual, however, you took care of more mundane work, such as unpacking and restocking gift store shelves with merch, or being the standby human staff to help out customers who weren't so keen on technology. this specific part of your job (and more noteworthy, the main part of your job) seemed to be something you were… less fond of. any passerby could notice the hesitation before each of your movements or see the soft trembling of your hands as you tried to help out the customers to the best of your ability. monty might’ve not been the most observant– but it’s not like it took too much to see how timid you could be.

still, he never saw you complain about it. not once. you dealt with everything your job required you to do without a single word, even if you had to go out of your way to do things you disliked, you abided by every single rule and regulation, made sure to stay out of other people's way, and even apologized to wet floor sign bots if you ever accidentally bumped into them.

despite your reserved behaviour, you weren't a stranger in the pizzaplex. a lot of the staff and animatronics knew of you and saw you around the place frequently but you seemed to insist on keeping to yourself whenever possible. you were content with being a silent, social recluse, who got the work done day after day without a word.

that sparked curiosity in monty. your shyness had accidentally wrapped you in complete mystery to others.

at first, conversations between the two of you were mostly reliant on monty initiating them, followed by him doing most of the talking. you were all nervous smiles and laughs, nods of agreement or shrugs, and barely ever spoke up. it almost pissed him off, knowing you meant no harm but still showed no obvious interest in speaking to him.

he could’ve ended it there. waited for you to make the first move instead. ignore you and your presence until you came crawling back into hopes to gain the attention he once gave you. in every other scenario, he would’ve resorted to pettiness, yet still, he found himself saying hi to you when he passed you, in a half hearted attempt to start conversations. it didn't work. monty however, ever persistent and growing more curious by the day, had decided to put an end to this. once and for all. he was determined to talk to you.

your task of the day was sanitizing and reorganizing the rental bowling shoes in bonnie bowl. so there you stood, behind the bowling shoe rental counter, disinfecting spray in hand. you’d grab a pair of shoes, clean them, and then set them aside, each in a different group according to size. a very simple task, which demanded little to no thought. repetitive, plain, and utterly boring– you did it in silence, off in your own world as you carried out your job. wash, rinse, repeat.

in fact, you had happened to be so zoned out, that you hadn’t paid any sort of attention to the very large gator animatronic that had just walked in. not even when he approached you to stand right in front of the counter, his arms crossed and stance towering over you. you didn’t even look up.

"not even gonna say hello, huh?” though his gaze was undeniably intimidating, something in his voice gave you the impression he was almost amused by your unresponsiveness. it takes a lot to not notice a huge animatronic gator after all.

a smile crept up on your face as you looked up at him, no hint of alarm at his sudden presence. you set down the shoes you had just disinfected, before giving him a little wave.

your little grin seemed to make him stop for a second– like he had lost anything that he was about to say. there was a pause in the moment, as he considered your silence. he looked you directly in the eye. the type of stare that made you want to wilt away, nervously waiting for some sort of angry, sharp-tongued remark.

“y’know, it’s kind of weird,” he began, “to know your name without even being told it.”

your glance briefly dropped to your nametag, pinned to your shirt.

a small frown formed on your face.

“oh.” you had forgotten that your first response to him asking for your name was just a quick point at your nametag and a polite nod. even your reply now– a small noncommittal mumble, more sound than word– was incredibly ambiguous. did that make you rude? oh god. the last thing you wanted was to upset someone.

“that’s what i’m talkin’ about. i get it, you’re not huge on chatting or whatever. but you should know you’re not talkin’ to just any stranger. in all the time you’ve been here, i’ve barely heard your voice.”

the shake in your hands did not calm at this. somehow, the fact he was being patient with you felt worse. you tried to search for something to say, feeling your mouth running dry already. was "sorry, i'm too shy" even a good excuse?

as the mini debate raged on in your head, monty began to feel like he messed up, watching you quiver like an anxious puppy.

“...i didn’t know you’d want to hear it.” you reply. you looked straight back at him, trying not to shy away again. “i’m sorry.”

you leaned forwards, offering a nervous smile while trying to ignore the quickened pace of your heart, or the burning heat in your face. “so uh… what are you trying to find out about me?”

he grinned at you, star-shaped shades slipping down in front of his eyes.

“anything. what’ve you got going on inside that head of yours, huh?”

and so you talked. for the very first time, you did all the talking and he did the listening. it really only began as some mindless rambling to spill the thoughts you’ve been holding in, as you had assumed he wasn’t really listening all too much. but he learned a lot of things about you that day.

he watched the way your eyes lit up when talking about something you loved, how mouthy you could get about something you hated, or how expressive you were when telling stories. your voice was a sound he would’ve never gotten tired of. he clung to every sentence, every word… if you had just carried on with your little rants forever, he would’ve never objected.

finally, he got to know you.

you paused for a second, staring at the now neatly organized shoes. the corners of your lips twitched into a small, uncertain grin.

“ah… thank you for listening. but– i really gotta go.” you mumbled, feeling sheepish that you had lost track of your progress and the time, all because you got caught up in your scatter-brained monologue.

just like the first day, you left before he could even get a word in. giving him a sweet smile and another small “thank you,” you headed out the doors and out of the ‘plex.

always slipping away before more progress could be made. that was fine. he’d just wait for your next shift, hoping he could finally hear your voice again.

Suponho que vcs lembrem minha opinião sobre essa saga. Caso não, acho uma chatice até Anne na Casa dos Sonhos (especialmente Anne de Windy Polars) e depois levei um tombo em Rilla de Ingleside.

E, para os "desavisados" que acham que os livros têm alguma coisa a ver com a série da Netflix, já aviso que a única coisa que permanece são os nomes e personalidades de alguns personagens (pq outros nem existem).

Como eu disse na "descrição", sugiro começar por Um Estudo em Vermelho, que é o começo (quando o Watson e o Sherlock se conhecem), apesar de não ser um dos melhores, na minha humilde opinião. Depois disso, você lê na ordem que quiser pq não vai fazer tanta diferença. Eu, por exemplo, li dois dos livros, então os 56 contos de uma vez e aí os outros dois livros, terminando com O Cão dos Baskerville, meu xodó.

As protagonistas até se conhecem mas não se encontram e é mais sobre a viagem/cenários, auto descoberta e romance msm. Tem uma vibe bem "Sessão da Tarde".

Line Without a Hook by Ricky Montgomery is literally Curt and Owen's song, the lyrics are so accurate it hurts (This is not to take away from the original meaning at all):

Spies are Forever spoilers (if you still haven't watched it PLEASE GO WATCH IT)

This is them pre-fall, obviously they had to keep their relationship a secret due to the dangerously severe consequences they would face if anybody found out they were gay.

"If I went and hurt my body, baby Would you love me the same?"

This could apply to them in their careers where they are constantly getting hurt, or could apply to Owen right after the fall because I believe he still had faith that Curt would come and fix everything and I dont think Owen blamed him at first.

"I can feel all my bones coming back And I'm craving motion"

Owen is literally coming for revenge x

"Oh, baby, I am a wreck when I'm without you I need you here to stay"

Curt went through a lot mentally after Owen died, which we see throughout but especially during "Spy Again"

"Oh, and if I could take it all back I swear that I would pull you from the tide"

I feel like Curt would definitely say this as I think he regrets not trying to help Owen at all and probably blames himself for Owen falling in the first place.

"Is it worth it? Is it worth it? Tell me, is it worth it?"

This line reminds me a lot of the final confrontation, I imagine both of them were asking themselves this to be honest. After all that I think they still had some love for each other, because how could they throw away all that -- especially Curt who had only JUST begun to dislike/hate Owen (and you may be like we barely even saw them in love and yes that's kinda valid but they had to be very in love if they were willing to risk everything for it, and we see how distraught Curt is after Owen dies)

And finally, "Guess there is something, and there is nothing, There is nothing in between"

I feel like this kinda sums up their relationship by the end (this is more about Curt but can also apply to Owen a little bit) that one day they were in love and the next they're trying to kill each other (well 4 years later but yk). For Curt, he never really had a chance to slowly fall out of love he just had to quickly change his opinion on the guy he'd been mourning for 4 YEARS (he was down bad)

So yeah other lyrics can also apply to the narrative but I think these ones were the most easy to annotate. I also want to say that if you disagree that's fine and if I explained this badly I'm so sorry. To sum up, sorry if I ruined a great song💀 If anybody wants to add anything or explain this better please do and let me know about it pls 🙏

🚫 (is there a storyline you’ll never play?) - is seeking too obvious? i mean, i'm sure it's the one plenty of people would also answer this question with, but like. i don't have any particular interest in seeking the name, even without the whole perma-death thing, it just doesn't seem that interesting from what i've heard. (also i have to admit candles actually seems kind of annoying as a character just based on the bits of text i've seen (from others' screenshots))

'uhhh basically most fate storylines' seems like a bit of a non-answer. i guess there's the stuff related to 'a player of chess' that i never acknowledge because i forget it even exists as an attribute the majority of the time

💜 (top 5 favorite npcs) - only 5.... hmm. for the purposes of this i'm making a distinction (that i can't put into words) between 'favourite npc' and 'favourite character', even though i guess they're just the same thing in this kind of context, but like, there's just a difference you know?

april (<- this one is predictable i think. probably obvious why in terms of her as a character but also seeing her dialogue in the laboratory is always fun)

the drummer in the depths (<- i do wish there was more to do in regards to the drummer apart from like. visiting him once and then occasionally getting his vote on railway board matters.)

the mercies (<- but i guess really mostly lettice)

either mathilde, montgomery, or gulliver (the rats that accompany the coquettish, curt, and capering relickers, respectively) (<- they can share 4th place i guess. idk i just think they're neat. all four relickers themselves are also 'just think they're neat' though. actually maybe #4 is just 'the relickers and associated rats, in general, with the exception of pinnock')

february (<- she wouldn't be in my top 5 favourite characters, but i like seeing her dialogue on the occasions when she appears, so i might as well put her as #5 here)

🏵 (what accomplishment are you proudest of in the game?) - i don't really have an answer to this one, i guess maybe completing my ambition and the railway? but that seems like an obvious answer. maybe getting my renown: revolutionaries above 50. shrug

💎 (favorite ambition) - i've only done bag a legend, but i have to say, killing a giant capitalist bat was pretty great, so i guess that's my current favourite

😑 (most frustrating grind you’ve had to do) - i lose the memories of frustrating grinds as soon as i've completed them. so the MOST frustrating one might have been while doing bag a legend, or it could've been to do with the railway, or maybe the most frustrating one was at some point during the normal making-your-name progressions that every player goes through... i barely remember what my precise emotions were last week let alone being able to compare how i felt every time i had to spend all my actions and more on one thing

but so far the mostly-opportunity-and-newspaper-based process of getting revolutionaries renown has been. repetitive and certainly frustrating. especially now that it's far enough that, even after i get all the favours, even with my shadowy at max and all my shadowy items equipped the shadowy requirement is so high that i have to wait for the mood-granting opportunity card to show up. but after i have all the favours that's less a grind and more luck-based, not as if i spend all my actions on it anymore or anything like that
