Naming, label and wrapping paper design for "Το Φίλεμα" (To Filema) wine. This is a sweet wine, produced by a boutique winery in the outskirts of Athens and was a special limited edition flavor for Nikos Ferentinos. The purpose of this product was to be given as a gift to selected clients, associates, friends and family of Nikos.

Filema is a greek word and it means "the treat". It's a heartwarming word that in its letters encloses memories, flavors and odors of home, grandparents, summer holidays, salty skin, grass, wet soil. This is a powerful word for greeks, especially of my age or older.

For the design, I decided to keep it simple and focus on the beautiful letters. Nikos trusted my hands and did let me create a custom script for the name which I combined with a sans serif extended typeface and rose-gold foil.

So there is this title card for Falke before you fight her. And the font rose engine used there always fascinated me. Unfortunately the font can’t be found in the game files. So I decided it would be a fun project to take those five letters and reverse-engineer the font.

So I knew the font was based on a Transitional Serif form principle due to the rounded transitions between stem and serif. I had the dimensions for vertical and horizontal stems. Unfortunately I there was not a single round letter (O, U, Q, C, S, G), so I had to come up with my own idea how to the them. I decided to go for a pronounced shadow axis as the straight axis didn’t sit right with me. I mean, isn’t the game full of queer characters? ; )

When I looked through the game files at a later point I found this image. Well, turns out I guessed wrong with round shapes. They are a lot more straight then I designed mine : / I also learned that the style is probably inspired by the graphic design used in Neon Genesis Evangelion. There they just squashed and stretched Times New Roman or something adjacent. That is probably also the reason why the font wasn’t showing up in the game files.

Anyway, I still like the outcome and will continue working on it.

I also used this in a book layout and really liked it.
