kurama always tries to keep his friends from using his demon name around others in his life, but most of his friends are... not the best at keeping their words in check, to say the least. and i cant help but imagine theyd defintely let a few "kurama"s slip around his mom. when asked by her, kurama just laughs and says its a silly nickname his friends gave him is all.

but shiori knows her son well by now, how hes always been a bit secretive and mischevious (especially in his younger years, when he didnt really open up, and new things seemed to show up in his room on a regular basis that she most certainly didnt get for him). to try to get to the bottom of as many things as she can, she needs to be observant to fit pieces together.

and so she listens. not trying to eavesdrop on her sons conversations, of course, but its hard not to overhear conversations thatre in the same room as you, you know? and its hard to stay far away, when she can finally see her dear shuichi, whos always been so distant with his peers, now laughing and joking around with close friends!

there are times they speak in hushed tones that she cant pick up, and as curious as she is, she wont pry or invade to listen. kids do need privacy, after all, and she wont push her sons boundaries.

on the occasion though... these hushed words take the form of her son whispering into his best friend's ear- the one that is around the most, hiei- and followed by what looks to be a blush forming on said friend's cheeks. a very curious devlopment, for sure.

shes noticed this happening some time after theyve started being much physically closer when they spend time with each other- quite a notable change, considering his little friend seemed uncomfortable, or maybe even replused by such closeness before. she still remembers when she first gave him a hug, and hiei stiffened up like she froze him solid. it hurt her heart to think what could have made the boy react like that to affection... it makes her happy to see hes opening up with her son now though.

sometimes she overhears their friends- yusuke in particular- teasing the two about dating. (she has her suspicions of the same, certainly, but figures shell let her son come to her about it when hes ready- if her assumptions are correct, that is) when hiei gets annoyed and wants their friends to leave, they playfully accuse him of "wanting alone time with his boyfriend," causing hiei to fluster and tell them to shut up. shes even spotted her dear shuichi blushing a few times at the insinuation of dating hiei- and shiori cant help but think how adorable those two are together!

then finally, one day yusuke and kuwabara join up for another round of teasing, starting to sing "kurama and hiei sitting in a tree!" and finally, shiori makes a connection hearing her son's "nickname" right beside his best friend's name- those are also the names of two mountains relatively close to each other! unaware that kurama is not actually a nickname of his, she figures she must have found the right conclusion- and she melts at how cute it is, starting to go by a nickname that matches his probably-boyfriend!

A funny scene from the 1994 "Yu Yu Hakusho Gaiden" game for mega drive, an original story that takes place two days before the Dark Tournament.

Demons are popping up all over town, so Koenma sends the guys off to investigate and get to the root of the problem. Reminded me of Maji Battle a little bit.

My favorite part of the game intro is when Botan is looking for the guys to inform that Koenma wants to have a word with them. Hiei's line, "who's disturbing my nap", is the best 😂

The first part of the game is divided into 4 chapters: Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei and Kurama. Each one takes to the streets to investigate, and eliminate demons.

Yusuke's Chapter

Yusuke is so upset about Toguro being so much stronger than him that he forgets about the mission. He asks this seemingly strong old guy, who saved Keiko from a gang, to teach him his technique. But ... he's trouble.

Gladly, Master Genkai comes to his aid.

Kuwabara's Chapter

All delinquents in town are acting strange. They have suddenly become just and been refusing to fight (isn't that a good thing? lol).

Apparently, they are all attending this strange place called the "Touzai Seminar". Kuwabara sneaks in to investigate, and fights a pumpkin-demon.

The power of love is invincible XD

Guess everything went back to normal.

Hiei's Chapter

Hiei comes across this little girl, but he doesn't have time to play with kids. It's cute that she calls Hiei "onii-chan". Hiei also mentions he's not good dealing with children XD.

Later, she goes missing.

He senses a nostalgic youki in town, and suspects the mastermind behind it is Kuroneko (dark cat), a cat demon who was Hiei's partner during his bandit days.

Kurama's Chapter

It's basically a story about Kurama's mother being kidnapped. Kurama fights some demons and rescues his mother in the museum.

I like this illustration included in the game manual. Kurama is in the museum fighting the dinosaur fossil youkai.

That blue-haired girl is also interesting, looks like Botan a little. She's looking for her dog, Pochi, but Kurama didn't see it. Then, she re-appears as a youma, and Kurama defeats it.

My Red Rose Prince ♡

After investigating and eliminating random demons, they gather at Yusuke's place. They found out that the source of the problem is in a place called Gokumon Island. It's time to go to the Demon World.

After you clear the first part, the familiar eye-catch from the anime shows up.

The second part of the game is on Gokumon Island - Makai.

The imaginary illustration of the island is beautiful (taken from the manual). I think it was inspired by the Maze Castle in Demon City.

Well, Gokumon Chapter is kinda boring. They basically walk around the island, fight demons, help human souls, and defeat the final boss in his tower, a youkai called Choujou (超嬲).

The manual illustration of the final boss castle with Kurama and Yusuke is more exciting.

Btw, even though she's not the real Keiko, it's a cute scene ❤

After defeating the final boss, Gokumon Island disappears. Mission complete! Now, it's time to go to the Dark Tournament.

But, before that, Yusuke meets the real Keiko boss XD. The game ends with the classic boob scene. Yusuke wants to check her reaction, because he was deceived by a fake Keiko last time.

IT'S THE REAL KEIKO!!!!

In the end, the guys lose the shuffle boat to Hanging Neck Island (Dark Tournament) 😂

Poor Hiei and Kurama...

The credits show monochrome images of the Dark Tournament. I like that Atsuko Urameshi appears with the girls instead of Jorge Saotome. Just like the manga!

Omgggg, finally, some action in the yuyu fandom!! ♡♡♡ do you think you could do a request with Hiei trying to navigate the nuances of a relationship with a girl who's a bit insecure?? She's strong and can definitely take care of herself, but sometimes Hiei leaves for weeks on end, and it makes her worried he's not really into her or something? i've thought about this for a minute while walking to the bus stop today.. and come to think of it this would cause a bit of a stir in the relationship, but with a little bit of communication, it'll all work out! reader is human to make things easier. i'm not the most proud of this but i hope you enjoy it for the most part!

the honest truth is, aside from work, hiei does need a lot of time to himself, this is most likely the first relationship he's ever been in and doesn't really know or even understand the basics of human romantic relations; the concept of always being with your partner kind of overwhelms him.

he knows that cheating and abuse are things you shouldn't do, not only does the same rules apply for demons but also he wouldn't like it if you were to get with someone else, why should he?

but things do take a strange turn when he tells you that he'll be gone, but not for how long.

he's been gone for weeks, you start to overthink.

it makes you wonder, it makes you worry, has he found someone else? did he not like you well enough? whatever it is, you try not to worry too much, maybe he didn't know he'll be gone for this long...! he still loves you, right! right..?

eventually he does come back, unexpectedly, you could've even sworn he looked different, maybe he grew a few inches or his hair got shorter? you ask him why he's been gone for so long and he's vague with his answer, you wonder if he may be cheating on you, or something else is happening.

you tell him about your issue, saying that he needs to tell you how long he'll be gone, almost like a concerned mother for her child.

hiei does actually feel bad for leaving you, but he figured that you're a strong girl, you can handle your own, it i mean he is a demon and he does have stuff he needs to do in the demon world, and sometimes it takes him a long time to get things done.

after having this conversation, he tells you that sometimes even he doesn't know when he'll be gone, so you should expect that type of thing for him, the only thing he could really do is tell you that he'll never step out for temporary release.

and when he's all done, he'll bring by some things he saw that reminded him of you, kind of like that thing where how penguins flirt by showing them rocks or something (is that how it goes? if so... xP)

yusuke should get him a phone to text you and let you know but he refuses, not caring much for human technology.

one of my fave kurahi things to think about is, before they even start dating, hiei says something really sweet/affectionate to kurama, and kurama just completely flushes. because, holy shit, hiei of all people saying something like that to him?

even something as simple as hiei saying hes beautiful, which kurama has heard plenty of times before through his life and its never flustered him before, not even a little! and he feels silly for losing his composure so easily for something like this- hes the king of thieves damnit! ...but hiei said it, his hot and adorable broody partner who limits any of his rare compliments to skill in battle, the one hes become so fond for and wants to shower in affection so badly...

Nothing more can be said as you walk straight past the little delinquent. Though, he does bristle in offence at your casual dismissal. Maybe you should've rejected him slowly... 'it's not you, it's me...'

The two of you do end up meeting anyway, curse you and your curiosity, and you now stand in front of Yusuke with the most unimpressed, 'look, you've got the wrong idea' expression.

Meanwhile, Yusuke is looking aweful proud of himself, and it seems he rolled up with the whole pussy patrol. Of course Shuichi is here, whom you know about because of various contacts that keep tabs on suspicious people for you. And oh, boy, is this redhead suspicious after he caught every single contact of yours with ease, and even more so now that he's groupied with Yusuke, of all people.

Kuwabara obviously wouldn't have missed this for the world, but the fourth guy is simply a mystery to you. Mystery short stack wears only black, like you even despite the school dress code, and as soon as you tilt your head in curiosity at him he immediately looks away. Wierd.

The matter at hand is that Yusuke Urameshi wants to fight you, yet you're not willing to go back to starting shit for no reason. It was just too much hassle, and the second your friends and family got dragged into it was when you called it quits.

"Look, whatever dick measuring contest you think this is, I'm not into it, man."

"Yeah, whatever, man! Come on over here and get your ass-kickin', that smug face a' yours says 'kick me' all over it!"

"You know I'm a woman, right?"

The shocked silence that follows is comical, really.

Yusuke and Kazuma had known of you for a while now, and heard of your feats through others that they had left as pulp on the ground, and were genuinely curious about you. Of course, they never knew the were picking a fight with a woman. As much as they like to promote equality, part of them still cringe at the thought of going against the one rule in the book. Never hit a woman.

Everywhere you look, eyes are wide like dinner plates. Everyone seems genuinely caught off guard, even Hiei and Kurama weren't expecting this. They had just come to see Yusuke get his ass handed to him.

"Why is this such a shock to you people?! Do I really look like a man to you?! Am I ugly?!"

"No- no! You- uh- well..."

Kuwabara steps in to save him, and fails miserably.

"We just thought you were one of those really pretty boys- l-like Kur- I mean- Shuichi..."

This is starting to fuck with you now. At the sight of what Yusuke now knows to be an upset woman in front of him, he cringes. Kuwabara's going on about how rude he is for making a girl cry, even though you're not crying, and like he didn't assume you were a man as well, but he's just background noise.

Somewhere in his head he connects the dots, thinking of every woman he knows and how unexpectedly violent they get when they're angry.

"Actually, that makes sense, you know."

After this turn of events you had actually forgiven this particular group, and the memory of when they all thought you were a man is now a long running joke between the four of you.

At some point, you'd pointed out to 'Useless Urameshi', as you had dubbed him, that he should talk to Keiko because she likes him, and it was getting a little painful to watch them dance around eachother like idiots.

You had grown especially close with Hiei and Kurama after being sucked into one of their demon-hunting escapades, and although the short tempered fire demon had been especially cold at first, it was nothing you hadn't dealt with before. He was just having trouble opening up to you. Kurama warned that it might take a while to get through to him.

Nonetheless, you had patience, or at least more than you did before you had stopped being a delinquent.

In reality, the group thought you were an absolute sweetheart, and even a bit of a doormat at times, but the second you lost your patience it took a while for them to convince you not to commit murder in the first degree. Even Hiei was genuinely surprised at how unnecessarily angry you could get for just an otherwise ordinary human girl, even despite your slight spiritual awareness.

Despite your temper, the group adored you, and you adored them. Kurama often joked that you were his favourite human because of the behemoth strength behind "such pretty eyes". Butterflies invaded your stomach when he said that and they never left.

The two demons especially took a liking to you, since you treated them so well, and it was obvious to everyone except you, that they were competing for you, ironically. It's like Yusuke and Keiko all over again. He's still haunted by the name you gave him. 'Useless Urameshi- What an ass.' he would think.

Not to mention that they're so cute, and quite intelligent as well- haha, I definitely sound conceited now, don't I? 🤭 Foxes can easily tell I'm somehow related to them (even if most aren't quite sure how), so they often come flocking to me when I'm near, wanting to play and get pets. I usually try bringing some inarizushi whenever I'm going somewhere I know some foxes will be around- though I won't give it all away, I love the stuff too!

I also enjoy getting things designed after foxes- decorations, trinkets, clothing, anything, really! I have fun wearing kitsune masks during festivals too, haha. Hiei always smiles and rolls his eyes at me when he sees these things, but I can't help it! Surrounding myself with items that're so on the nose while still going under most other people's radar is just too amusing for me! 🤭

With how much foxes love me- plus how fond I am of them- and inarizushi being one of my favorite treats, my mother has joked that I "must have been a fox in a past life"... It's honestly a little scary how accurate her jokes can be sometimes. I suppose it's true what they say about mothers' intuitions- but in my mother's case, it's more precise than even she realizes. 😅

Hm, but aside from the obvious choice... I suppose my next favorite animal would be cats? As I've stated previously, I have a particular fondness for them since I relate them to Hiei. ♡ Honestly, he has enough feline characteristics that I almost wonder if his father was some sort of cat demon, haha. And of course, I adore Eikichi as well! She's become quite the adorable, plump little cat, and still as sweet and playful as she's always been. Plus, it's quite fascinating how much variety there is amongst the species- and funny how no matter how small, big, domestic, or wild they are, they still are drawn to a lot of the same things, like cardboard boxes, haha! I wonder if I got a box big enough, I'd come home to Hiei in it someday. 😂

Ah, I do have a bit of a soft spot for bats as well, as they remind me of Kuronue. He was the partner I had become closest to during my time as a full demon. Though, it's more of a bittersweet feeling seeing those animals. After all, it's hard not to miss people you've cared for in the past, even after so much time has gone by.

I quite like rabbits as well, though... for completely different reasons. 🤭 The ones in the Ningenkai may often be smaller than their counterparts in the Makai, but they taste quite better. Safer to consume, too, as most Ningenkai animals are. It makes me wonder how rats of this world compare to the kinds in the Makai as well. They're more taboo to eat here though, and a bit on the small side for me to care about hunting one myself, so I haven't bothered trying any yet. Maybe one day... It'd be amusing to try some rat meat in front of Kuwabara, at least. 🤭 It already freaks him out that I'd eat something as cute as rabbits, haha. It's just a normal diet for a fox like myself, though.

😂If you compare Hiei from the beginning to the end of the series, specially in the manga, I think he's grown a little taller. He has become more handsome too. To be honest, I think he'll stay tiny, that's his charm ;P

Volume 3 x Volume 18

Humm, last year a famous leaker hinted on Twitter a Yu Yu Hakusho remake. It's hard to know if those rumors are true, so I just hope they are right. I think it's about time Yu Yu Hakusho got a remake, also to celebrate the 30th Anniversary. I don't sense a new episode, but if something is about to happen, I sense a remaster or a remake, similar to what they are doing to Bastard, Rurouni Kenshin, etc. I would love if they could animate the beginning of the manga. The detective stories from when Yusuke was a ghost are super cute.

As for the Netflix series, I read Yusuke will be a high school student instead of a junior high. There will be some differences from the original series. But, you all know Netflix, they will only renew for season 2 if it's a success.

I'm just happy that after 30 years, new yu yu content is being produced!

Uh, guys? Not Genshin related but I just saw a teaser for the live action Yu Yu Hakusho adaptation and I am 😳 looking unexpectedly hard like, hello?

Okay, so, for anyone who doesn’t know me from any of my previous blogs this is my all time favorite anime like hands down so when the LA was first announced I was disgusted. Tbh this is probably the exact face I made dndkdkdke

But then I heard it was being handled by Netflix Japan and I was like … hm. I think I can trust them with this a bit more than any other option, but I’m still VERY critical. This is the series that in many ways defined me as a person so I was not going to be easily swayed haha

However this first look actually seems shockingly promising? The ambiance, the overall vibe, even the production budget does not look too bad?? I’m REALLY not sold on what they’re doing with Hiei’s hair but considering how … gravity defying and uniquely anime it is, I’m not going to lose my mind over it. Kurama’s is another matter entirely, the least they could’ve done is fluffed it a little bit dmekxkemd there’s no reason for his to look so limp and sad lmao

The biggest surprise for me is probably how cute they made Kuwabara tho dkdkdkd a true yankee, you know I love to see it!

If anyone is curious to know what the hell I’m talking about here’s where I watched it but also hey go check out the greatest anime of all time 🤣 And don’t argue with me on that because I WILL die on this hill lol
