Christmas Present

Prompt: “What are you doing?” “What does it look like I’m doing?” - @challengingwords

Pairing: Yoongi (BTS) x reader - w/ cameo from Namjoon

A/N: Through much encouragement from Chelle, I am posting my submission for this month’s challenging words. I have never done anything like this before. Usually when I write, it’s for my eyes only or for a very select few that I trust. I am in no way whatsoever a professional writer. I just do this to get thoughts out of my head that tend to leave me distracted IRL until I do. I hope you enjoy!

“Noona, that was a great take,” Namjoon’s voice complimented you through the headphones you were wearing.

“Can we do it again?” you suggested through the mic from the live room you were contained in.

“You’ve already done the song so many times,” he pointed out. His phone alerted to a message at that moment. He raised his phone and pointed at it for you to see from behind the windowed barrier. “Why don’t you rest your voice for now. I have to take care of this,” his voice informed you, “If you want to do another take when I come back, we will.” You nodded your head in agreement and Namjoon took that as his cue to exit the recording studio.

You still couldn’t believe you were doing this. The many times you’ve been to the recording studio it was on the opposite end of the barrier, on the couch while your boyfriend, Yoongi, did his magic. But as a surprise Christmas present, you decided to record a song for him. He’s always been so supportive of your vocal talents that you never had the confidence of sharing with others..with the exception of your shower head and with him.

Dream a Little Dream of Me was your special lullaby you’d sing to him when he was having a difficult night. It only made sense that you’d record this professionally for him to take on the road so he can listen to it when you weren’t there by his side.

So there you were, stepping out of your comfort zone, practicing away while you waited for Namjoon to return.

“What are you doing?” a familiar voice asked through your headphones. Your eyes widened and looked up to the control room and saw Yoongi with a curious look on his face.

“What does it look like I’m doing?” you asked back.

“If I knew that, I wouldn’t be asking, would I?” he countered.

“Namjoon asked me to help test the equipment out,” you lied.

“Oh?” Yoongi simply said. He put the headphones on that Namjoon had left and played the last recording. You then heard your voice playing back to you.

“Yah! Yoongi! You’re going to ruin the surprise!” You yelled out to him. You took your headphones off and started running to the door that led to the control room.

“What is this?” he asked you with a smile on his face as you entered the room.

“It’s supposed to be your Christmas present, but now you’ve ruined it,” you whined and crossed your arms.

He walked over to you, wrapped you up in his arms and placed a kiss on your forehead. “I can think of a better present.”

“You might as well tell me what you want since I have to figure out something new to get you,” you scowled.

“Let me help lay the track,” he requested, “I want to be the only one that gets to help my beautiful girlfriend record her equally beautiful voice.”

“You make it hard to stay mad at you,” you stated as you stepped out of his embrace and went back to the live room. You put your headphones back on and nodded your ready to his smiling and excited face. You heard your cue and sang your heart on the track for him.

After a long night of practice, August was exhausted. But he had promised to take Yu Ai out shopping, he didn’t want to disappoint her. She slipped her arm around his when he arrived and leaned her head onto his arm, smiling. Seeing how happy she was, August felt happy too. They headed into the mall.

She held onto him the whole time and closer when there were a lot of people. August could sense that she was strange. He pulled his arm out of her embrace and turned to her.

“What is up with you today?” he questioned.

Yu Ai looked into his eyes, afraid to tell him. She didn’t want him to be mad.

“Nothing.” Yu Ai turned her head to avoid eye contact.

“You are lying.” August stated, “You always turn away when lying, you know I hate it.”

Yu Ai gulped, deciding if she should tell him. Letting out a sigh, she gave in.

“I’m sorry, but some of my used to be friends were saying that you wouldn’t date someone like me, I just want to prove to them that you love me.” Yu Ai explained.

August shook his head in disapproval letting go of her hand.

“Why are you like this?” August complained.

“Please, just one small kiss.” Yu Ai pleaded him with her eyes.

“I’m exhausted, I don’t need this right now.” August refused.

Pouting, Yu Ai moved closer, cupping his face in her hands. August rolled his eyes and pushed Yu Ai’s hand from his chin.

“Didn’t you just hear me say no right now?” August raised his voice louder.

Yu Ai’s smile turned upside down and tears welled up in her eyes. She lowered her eyes as people in the store turned their heads. Her rivals giggling, whispering to each other. Without looking at August, Yu Ai ran out the door.

August could hear girls giggling. He glared at them before running after Yu Ai, turning her to him and pushed her back against the wall. With his thumb, he wiped the tears from her face. Making sure the other girls could see clearly, he kissed her hard for a few seconds before pulling away.

“What are you doing?” Yu Ai questioned, her voice shaking.

“What does it look like I’m doing?” August stared into her eyes.

She could see the apologetic and understanding in his eyes.

“I love you and no matter what anyone thinks that fact won’t change.” August firmly stated, loud enough for everyone to hear, “You don’t need to worry about what others say, just know that you are mine and I belong to you.”

Yu Ai smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him down to her. This time kissing gently with love.
