Apparently VKontakte will be using Dagor as a basis for their Nau Engine, at least if Google Translate’s camera translation of this video are accurate:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGKPikPMnrU&t=1366s
Guessing that Dagor was opened up so that code transfer could happen without violating sanctions. Whatever the reason, at least we got a AAA game engine open-sourced in the process.
Nagy segítség ez a magyar játékfejlesztő családoknak

I think that at some point after reincarnating in Valinor, Celebrimbor should get married and have a child. I want the sparkiest family line in Arda to continue. I’m specifically imagining a scene like,
[Name TBD], tired but smiling, holding her newborn daughter: Her name is Curufinwen.
Celebrimbor, buzzing with Brand New Dad! energy but permanently conscious of his family’s legacy: Are you sure? That’s kind of...loaded...
[Name TBD], experiencing a brief prophetic vision of her daughter launching an intercontinental ballistic missile at an incoming giant void spider in Dagor Dagorath: I’m sure.
(Curufinwen grows up to be a merely decent smith, by her family’s standards, but she excels at calculations mathematical, mechanical, and chemical. She is the greatest engineer and explosives expert the Eldar ever know. Many years after Curufin is released from Mandos and just a week or two after Fëanor is, multiple exciting new lights and explosions have already emanated from the area of Tirion occupied mostly by those called the New Jewel-Smiths. Mandos is heard to say to Manwë, “I fear I have erred once more in my judgement. I did not sufficiently consider the effect of there now being four of them.”)
#celebrimbor#the silmarillion#lotr#lord of the rings#eldar#sparks#ficlet#my fic#celebrimbor's wife is vanyar bc i think it'll be funny for feanor to deal with that#she's a moral philosopher and respected within the third age reformation movement as a quiet but steady pillar of the#'the valar and indeed eru himself should be worshipped IF they truly deserve it'#but she's mostly interested in figuring out how one defines 'deserving' such a thing - what IS 'goodness' anyway? what defines moral action?#(is my faceclaim for her eleanor thegoodplace? ...maybe)#she and celebrimbor meet at a party where they're both avoiding relatives and bond over wishing everyone would hold their beliefs less#loudly and aggressively. just bc you'd be WILLING to fight multiple vala in a parking lot doesn't mean you need to make a big deal of it!#(obv nobody tells feanor about this. he has to learn to be polite to her WITHOUT knowing about the casual heresy)#when they get married celebrimbor makes her a ring. it's a perfectly nice ring - nothing special#flawlessly crafted ofc and it suits her perfectly. emphasizes everything beautiful about her#but not so grandly that anyone would think to covet it. the ring itself is a little plain even (ok it's probably mithril but)#maybe the fact that it suits /her/ so perfectly is part of why no one particularly would think to want it themselves? everyone sees it and#is like 'oh yes that suits her. kinda plain but [quietly] so is she' some might add 'it's nice that celebrimbor is making rings again'#unrelatedly this ring holds enough power to take out most maiar in 1v1 combat and could sturn a valar long enough for her to get away#the few sharp-eyed enough to notice /that/ are VERY impressed (and a little uneasy about the skill of feanor's line; as they should be)#celebrimbor is in charge of hte 'is this powerful magical object adviseable to make' committee so#feanor and feanor’s kin#vanyar

Your post about elves with actually metalic hair lives in my head rent-free, so please imagine: the absolutely buckwild hairdos that become possible if you hair is, for example, gold or silver or copper wire.
Oh man you got me started so!!! Let's do this:
1. Imagine that you're mourning the darkening of Valinor and decide to go full fucking balls to the wall for the 100 year anniversary and literally make an entire tree out of your hair. Yes. It takes a month and three elves to do it properly, but it eventually works.
Tumblr media
2. Nerdanel does her hair into beautiful sculptures of her sons after they turn out to by, yk, war criminals. People end up judging her mood by which face she makes that day- Curufin is for when she's feeling grieved; Maedhros for when she's feeling angry; Celegorm for when she's feeling haunted; Caranthir for when she's feeling lonely; Maglor for when she's feeling exhausted. She never does the twins. (Everyone else thinks she never does Feanor, but Nerdanel does: he just looks so similar to Curufin that nobody realizes. Those days are... the best days, really, but Nerdanel never tells anyone.)
3. Gives a new light to Galadriel giving her hair away to Gimli, doesn't it? Wires!!! It's a weapon- wire that can cut someone's throat, maybe, or work away at hinges, or bind something important together. BUT even more importantly: Galadriel's hair has both lights of the Trees- and suddenly that shining is even weirder, is even more precious, is even more ethereal. She's the only living person that combines the Light of the Trees. No wonder Feanor was obsessed. (Imagine, if you will, that you have been working your entire life towards inventing a cure for cancer, only to find out that your niece (of the estranged brother you really hate because he's TOTALLY that surfer bro that has, like, zero responsibilities) has that exact protein expressed in her fingernails. So you ask for a nail. One nail. Come on. From there all you have to do is back-engineer the protein and VOI-fucking-LA a CURE FOR CANCER!!! But she says no. And you ask again, and she says no again, and you're treated like a creep for asking, and you just- fucking- hate- teenage- girls. Anyways, that's basically Feanor @ Galadriel.)
4. Imagine the elves using their hair as last ditch weapons: a Feanorian general at the Dagor-nuin-Giliath, bloodied, screaming, uses one strand of her hair as a garrotte. A Silvan elf, chased for leagues and leagues by a ruthless pack of orcs, runs out of arrows; in response, he cuts off his hair and twists three strands each into forming a blade and then a shaft, and that's how fifteen orcs died in Arvernien during the Dagor Bragollach. A Sindar elf that braids poison into her hair so she can camouflage as a bush when she needs to, but can kill any warg that comes too close.
5. Morgoth shaves Maedhros upon capture, not because he wants to shame him- though he does- but because he doesn't want Maedhros to cut his own throat open, and Maedhros TOTALLY would. When Maedhros hangs on Thangorodrim, the hair starts to grow back, gently edged, blades like a kiss: and he begs for it to slit his throat, begs Manwe for a wind sharp enough to cut him open. It never comes.

Tagged by the amazing @thenookienostradamus :) Thank you 🙏🏼
Fic asks.
7. Your favourite ao3 tag.
Hate-sex, I think. I’m just not one for romance or fluff. Darkfic.
11. Three tropes that are fine but overrated.
I have to say that in 15 years in online fanfic fandom I’ve completely avoided even knowing what tropes are 😂
20. Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you?
I used to work on two in tandem, but when I became self-employed I just couldn’t do it anymore. Even when I could, it was a mental wrench to step out of one ‘world’ and into the other. Now I have to scrape the time to write. I need spaces of time to get into the ‘zone’, not just minutes.
28. Any writing advice that works for you and you feel like sharing?
If I get down or stuck, I go and read fic that I love. It starts the engines like nothing else I’ve tried.
30. Wildest AU scenario you have written?
I don’t know if they’re that wild really, everything I write is an AU and often gallops off into weird shit.
Possibly Fëanor meeting Melkor in the Dagor Dagorath and the meeting of the Flame Imperishable and the negation that-is-Melkor destroyed the universe.
Or maybe the Mirror of Worlds that Fëanor created in that universe (it was like a Portal into the Multiverse) which was shunted out of the destroyed universe and into future ones. In one of these universes Fëanor breaks it and the shards scatter through the Multiverse. The Mirror shards can appear on any world.
Maybe (in the Stormbringers Trilogy) when Fëanor, after his death is forcibly reborn and corrupted into a monstrosity and chained in Avathar, but eventually slips his chains and into the Great Sea. After a very long time in that monster shape he ends up in a deep, cold loch in Scotland.
In ancient times there was an event similar to the Storegga Slides, which caused immense tsunami to batter the west coast of Scotlandand brought the Silmaril of the Oceans to that loch. Fëanor half-recognising it, claimed it and slept with it in the depths.
In the story, Maglor has two of the Silmarils and there is an immense concatenation of power that brings the ‘Monster’ out of the loch. When Maglor kills it, the blubber breaks apart and Fëanor emerges, cleansed and whole.
Maybe Elgalad (who’s in the Dark Prince and Magnificat of the Damned series as well as the modern AU’s) Who was born an Elf but is probably a thought-form of Eru, maybe — or perhaps became a real person. We just don’t know. 🤷 I’m not sure he knows.
Eru is completely ambiguous, more than a little insane and wants to create another universe — in one AU with the aid of @naryaflame’s    OC, Claire James.
Eru, Vanimöré and Fëanor having a ‘totality’ that exists on the Outside so their physical forms are avatars.

“City With No Children” by The Arcade Fire as a duet between Curufin and Finrod
If there was a movie/TV show of the Silm and I knew how to make fanvids, this would be a fanvid. It doesn’t, so this is the lyrics with who is singing in {brackets} at the start of the lines and what footage I would put it to in (parentheses) after each line
{Finrod:} The summer that I broke my arm I waited for your letter (Teenage Finrod in Alqualonde writing a multi-page letter; the bay with ships can be seen out the window) I have no feeling for you now Now that I know you better (Teenage Curufin making technical drawings on the back of Finrod’s letter)
{Finrod:} I wish that I could have loved you then (Curufin & Finrod talking together in downtown Tirion) Before our age was through (the same location, but now lit by torchlight) And before a world war does with us (Curufin fighting orcs in the mountains) Whatever it will do (Finrod fighting orcs in a swamp)
{Curufin:} Dreamt I drove home to Houston On a highway that was underground (Finrod retreating with his soldiers south though the Pass of Sirion) There was no light that we could see (C&C leading their people in the shadow of Nan Dungortheb after the Dagor Bragollach) As we listened to the sound of the engine failing (a newly-built cairn on the edge of the forest as C&C continue on)
{Duet:} I feel like I've been living in A city with no children in it A garden left for ruin by a millionaire inside Of a private prison (day to day scenes in Nargothrond, the city half-empty while the soldiers are at war)
{Finrod:} You never trust a millionaire Quoting the sermon on the mount (Thingol allowing the Noldor to live in some of Beleriand, but never in Doriath itself) I used to think I was not like them (Finrod opening the gates for C&C and the refugees from Himlad) But I'm beginning to have my doubts My doubts about it (Finrod wearing the Nauglamir as he greets Beren)
{Curufin:} When you're hiding underground (Pretty green fields around Nargothrond) The rain can't get you wet (Curufin fighting in a skirmish in Himlad) Do you think your righteousness Can pay the interest on your debt? (Finrod on the Helcaraxe) I have my doubts about it (Finrod falls in the duel against Sauron)
{Duet:} I feel like I've been living in A city with no children in it A garden left for ruin by a millionaire inside Of a private prison (day to day scenes in Nargothrond, there are more people now but the atmosphere is tense)
{Curufin:} I feel like I've been living in A city with no children in it (Celebrimbor walking away from his father) A garden left for ruin by and by (fields around Nargothrond lie untended as C&C restrict movement after their takeover) As I hide inside Of my private prison (Curufin on the throne in an empty hall)

CRSED: F.O.A.D. latest update adds more to the brutal online shooter
Tumblr media
CRSED: F.O.A.D. gets "I’mMortal" update for the game on Linux, Steam Deck, and Windows PC. Big shoutout to Darkflow Software for their continuous hard work. Along with the new expansion available on Steam. As you know, the base game is Free to Play. Attention to all online shooter fans: CRSED: F.O.A.D., known for its intense combat scenarios and diverse tactics, has just launched its latest content update titled "I’mMortal." This comes as exciting news for those who enjoy dynamic and interactive battle settings on Linux and Steam Deck. First and foremost, meet Nikolay Orlov, the newest addition to the roster of Champions. He's no ordinary combatant. Orlov is a prominent arms merchant and the leader of a mercenary group. His influence isn't limited to just the digital battlefield. He's also been a key player in real-world conflicts spanning Africa to Latin America. What's really unique is that, while most Champions need a special invite to join the battle, Orlov's immense wealth and powerful connections mean he can simply buy his way in. Since that’s the kind of influence he brings to the table.
New Season “I'mMortal” / CRSED: F.O.A.D.
youtube
Now, let's delve into what Orlov offers in terms of strategy and CRSED: F.O.A.D. playstyle. If you're someone who likes using the latest tech to get an edge over your opponents, Orlov is it. His standout ability allows him to call in a strike drone armed with missiles. So if you're in a tight spot, surrounded by enemies, and suddenly you have an airborne ally raining down chaos from the sky. That's the kind of game changing moment Orlov can deliver. But, keep in mind, this power doesn’t come without a cost in CRSED: F.O.A.D.. Every time you deploy this drone, it'll cost you in-game currency. But don't fret too much about the cost. As an added bonus, when you summon the drone, you also get an armored vest and additional firearms. This not only boosts your defense but also equips you with more firepower. But wait, there's more for CRSED: F.O.A.D.! Beyond Orlov's introduction, "I’mMortal" also brings a mystical ritual called "Fog" and a variety of new cosmetic upgrades. These additions promise to enrich the overall experience, giving you fresh ways to engage in combat and personalize your avatar. If you're keen on learning the details of every CRSED: F.O.A.D. Champion and master different playstyles. Going from stealthy approaches to outright aggressive gunfights, or even soaring through the skies with a jetpack. CRSED: F.O.A.D. certainly offers a rich and layered combat landscape that is both challenging and rewarding. For a detailed breakdown of Orlov and other features of the update, I’d recommend checking out the official website. Plus its all playable on Linux, Steam Deck, and Windows PC. The new The Bear of Wall Street Pack is available on Steam. Priced at $19.99 USD / £17.99 / 19,99€.

English Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta A, catalog number 531. Prewar, with uncoated 75/3.5 Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar. Coupoled rangefinder, Albada finder. Note the Zeiss-Ikon nameplate, some have this, some have the more usual impression in the leather. Note also the polished aluminum edges; this was done after the camera left the factory, probably because the black enamel became chipped (very common problem). In this case, and a few others I have seen, the removal of enamel and polishing were done so nicely that it looks almost like it was meant to be that way. Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta 531 Made from 1937 to 1956, the Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta 531 is the smallest of the Super Ikonta series. It is very light and fits easily in a pocket. The model shown on the picture has a Compur Rapid shutter with speeds up to 1/500 s but without flash sync. The lens is a coated 75 mm f/3.5 Tessar. The shutter release is on top of the body. The film advance knob has a double exposure prevention system. A coupled rangefinder and albada viewfinder are located on top of the body. This camera is splendid and very pleasant to use. One can wonder what prevents today’s camera makers to bring this concept up to modern standards.
Characteristics Format 4.5 x 6 cm (120 rollfilm) Lens Zeiss Tessar 75 mm f/3.5, coated Shutter central, Compur Rapid, from 1/500 s to 1 s, B pose, self-timer
Carl Zeiss AG is a German manufacturer of optical systems, industrial measurements and medical devices, founded in Jena, Germany in 1846 by Carl Zeiss, Ernst Abbe, and Otto Schott. There are currently two parts of the company, Carl Zeiss AG located in Oberkochen with important subsidiaries in Aalen, Göttingen and Munich, and Carl Zeiss GmbH located in Jena. The organisation is named after a founder, the German optician Carl Zeiss (1816–1888). Carl Zeiss is the premier company of the Zeiss Gruppe, one of the two large divisions of the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung. The Zeiss Gruppe is located in Heidenheim and Jena. The other division of the Carl Zeiss Foundation, the glass manufacturer Schott AG and Jenaer Glaswerk, is located in Mainz and Jena. Carl Zeiss is one of the oldest existing optics manufacturers in the world.
Zeiss corporate history The manufacturer Zeiss in Göttingen Carl Zeiss opened an optics workshop in Jena in 1846. By 1847 he was making microscopes full-time. By 1861 Zeiss was considered to be among the best scientific instruments in Germany with about 20 people working under him with his business still growing. By 1866 the Zeiss workshop sold their 1,000th microscope. In 1872 physicist Ernst Abbe joined Zeiss and along with Otto Schott designed greatly improve lenses for the optical instruments they were producing. After Carl Zeiss’s death in 1888, the business was incorporated as the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung in 1889. By World War I, Zeiss was the world’s largest location of camera production. Zeiss Ikon represented a significant part of the production along with dozens of other brands and factories, and also had major works at Dresden. In 1928 Hensoldt AG was acquired by Carl Zeiss and has produced the Zeiss binoculars and riflescopes since 1964., occasionally resulting in twin products being offered under both the Hensoldt and Zeiss brand names. The Hensoldt System Technology division (resulting from a merger of the military optics operations of Leica and Hensoldt) was continued by Zeiss under the Hensoldt name until 2006. As part of Nazi Germany Zwangsarbeiter program, Zeiss used forced labour during the Second World War. The destruction of the war caused many companies to divide into smaller subcompanies and others to merge. There was great respect for the engineering innovation that came out of Dresden—before the war the world’s first 35 mm single-lens reflex camera, the Kine Exakta, and the first miniature camera with good picture quality were developed there. At the end of the war Jena was occupied by the US Army. When Jena and Dresden were incorporated into the Soviet occupation zone, later East Germany, Zeiss Jena was assisted by the US army to relocate to the Contessa manufacturing facility in Stuttgart, West Germany, while the remainder of Zeiss Jena was taken over by the (Eastern) German Democratic Republic as Kombinat VEB Zeiss Jena. As part of the World War II reparations, the Soviet army took most of the existing Zeiss factories and tooling back to the Soviet Union as the Kiev camera works. The western business was restarted in Oberkochen (in southwestern Germany) as Opton Optische Werke Oberkochen GmbH in 1946, which became Zeiss-Opton Optische Werke Oberkochen GmbH in 1947, but was soon renamed to Carl Zeiss. West German Zeiss products were labelled Opton for sale in the Eastern bloc, while East German Zeiss products were labelled "Zeiss Jena" for sale in Western countries. In 1973, the Western Carl Zeiss AG entered into a licensing agreement with the Japanese camera company Yashica to produce a series of high-quality 35 mm film cameras and lenses bearing the Contax and Zeiss brand names. This collaboration continued under Yashica’s successor, Kyocera, until the latter ceased all camera production in 2005. Zeiss later produced lenses for the space industry and, more recently, has again produced high-quality 35 mm camera lenses. The eastern Zeiss Jena was also well known for producing high-quality products Following German reunification, VEB Zeiss Jena—reckoned as one of the few East German firms that was even potentially able to compete on a global basis—became Zeiss Jena GmbH, which became Jenoptik Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH in 1990. In 1991, Jenoptik Carl Zeiss Jena was split in two, with Carl Zeiss AG (Oberkochen) taking over the company’s divisions for microscopy and other precision optics (effectively reuniting the pre-war Carl Zeiss enterprise) and moving its microscopy and planetarium divisions back to Jena. Jenoptik GmbH was split off as a specialty company in the areas of photonics, optoelectronics, and mechatronics. The Hensoldt AG was renamed Carl Zeiss Sports Optics GmbH on 1 October 2006. The companies of the Zeiss Gruppe in and around Dresden have branched into new technologies: screens and products for the automotive industry, for example. Zeiss nonetheless still continues to be a camera manufacturer, and still produces the Pentacon, Praktica, and special-use lenses (e.g., Exakta). Today, there are arguably three companies with primarily Zeiss Ikon heritage: Zeiss Germany, the Finnish/Swedish Ikon (which bought the West German Zeiss Ikon AG), and the independent eastern Zeiss Ikon. Innovations The Zeiss company was responsible for many innovations in optical design and engineering. Early on, Carl Zeiss realised that he needed a competent scientist so as to take the firm beyond just being another optical workshop. In 1866, the service of Dr Ernst Abbe was enlisted. From then on novel products appeared in rapid succession which brought the Zeiss company to the forefront of optical technology. Abbe was instrumental in the development of the famous Jena optical glass. When he was trying to eliminate astigmatism from microscopes, he realised that the range of optical glasses available was insufficient. After some calculations, he realised that performance of optical instruments would dramatically improve, if optical glasses of appropriate properties were available. His challenge to glass manufacturers was finally answered by Dr Otto Schott, who established the famous glassworks at Jena from which new types of optical glass began to appear from 1888 to be employed by Zeiss and other makers. The new Jena optical glass also opened up the possibility of increased performance of photographic lenses. The first use of Jena glass in a photographic lens was by Voigtländer, but as the lens was an old design its performance was not greatly improved. Subsequently the new glasses would demonstrate their value in correcting astigmatism, and in the production of apochromatic lenses. Abbe started the design of a photographic lens of symmetrical design with five elements, but went no further. Zeiss’ domination of photographic lens innovation was due to Dr Paul Rudolph. In 1890, Rudolph designed an asymmetrical lens with a cemented group at each side of the diaphragm, and appropriately named "Anastigmat". This lens was made in three series: Series III, IV and V, with maximum apertures of f/7.2, f/12.5, and f/18 respectively. In 1891, Series I, II and IIIa appeared with respective maximum apertures of f/4.5, f/6.3, and f/9 and in 1893 came Series IIa of f/8 maximum aperture. These lenses are now better known by the trademark "Protar" which was first used in 1900. At the time, single combination lenses, which occupy one side of the diaphragm only, were still popular. Rudolph designed one with three cemented elements in 1893, with the option of fitting two of them together in a lens barrel as a compound lens, but it was found to be the same as the Dagor by C.P. Goerz, designed by Emil von Hoegh. Rudolph then came up with a single combination with four cemented elements, which can be considered as having all the elements of the Protar stuck together in one piece. Marketed in 1894, it was called the Protarlinse Series VII, the most highly corrected single combination lens with maximum apertures between f/11 and f/12.5, depending on its focal length. But the important thing about this Protarlinse is that two of these lens units can be mounted in the same lens barrel to form a compound lens of even greater performance and larger aperture, between f/6.3 and f/7.7. In this configuration it was called the Double Protar Series VIIa. An immense range of focal lengths can thus be obtained by the various combination of Protarlinse units. Rudolph also investigated the Double-Gauss concept of a symmetrical design with thin positive meniscii enclosing negative elements. The result was the Planar Series Ia of 1896, with maximum apertures up to f/3.5, one of the fastest lenses of its time. Whilst it was very sharp, it suffered from coma which limited its popularity. However, further developments of this configuration made it the design of choice for high-speed lenses of standard coverage. Probably inspired by the Stigmatic lenses designed by Hugh Aldis for Dallmeyer of London, Rudolph designed a new asymmetrical lens with four thin elements, the Unar Series Ib, with apertures up to f/4.5. Due to its high speed it was used extensively on hand cameras. The most important Zeiss lens by Rudolph was the Tessar, first sold in 1902 in its Series IIb f/6.3 form. It can be said as a combination of the front half of the Unar with the rear half of the Protar. This proved to be a most valuable and flexible design, with tremendous development potential. Its maximum aperture was increased to f/4.7 in 1917, and reached f/2.7 in 1930. It is probable that every lens manufacturer has produced lenses of the Tessar configuration. Rudolph left Zeiss after the First World War, but many other competent designers such as Merté, Wandersleb, etc. kept the firm at the leading edge of photographic lens innovations. One of the most significant designer was the ex-Ernemann man Dr Ludwig Bertele, famed for his Ernostar high-speed lens. With the advent of the Contax by Zeiss-Ikon, the first serious challenge to the Leica in the field of professional 35 mm cameras, both Zeiss-Ikon and Carl Zeiss decided to beat the Leica in every possible way. Bertele’s Sonnar series of lenses designed for the Contax were the match in every respect for the Leica for at least two decades. Other lenses for the Contax included the Biotar, Biogon, Orthometar, and various Tessars and Triotars. The last important Zeiss innovation before the Second World War was the technique of applying anti-reflective coating to lens surfaces. A lens so treated was marked with a red "T", short for "Transparent". The technique of applying multiple layers of coating was developed from this basis after the war, and known as "T✻" (T-star). After the partitioning of Germany, a new Carl Zeiss optical company was established in Oberkochen, while the original Zeiss firm in Jena continued to operate. At first both firms produced very similar lines of products, and extensively cooperated in product-sharing, but they drifted apart as time progressed. Jena’s new direction was to concentrate on developing lenses for the 35 mm single-lens reflex camera, and many achievements were made, especially in ultra-wide angle designs. In addition to that, Oberkochen also worked on designing lenses for large format cameras, interchangeable front element lenses such as for the 35 mm single-lens reflex Contaflex, and other types of cameras. Since the beginning of Zeiss as a photographic lens manufacturer, it has had a licensing programme which allows other manufacturers to produce its lenses. Over the years its licensees included Voigtländer, Bausch & Lomb, Ross, Koristka, Krauss, Kodak. etc. In the 1970s, the western operation of Zeiss-Ikon got together with Yashica to produce the new Contax cameras, and many of the Zeiss lenses for this camera, among others, were produced by Yashica’s optical arm, Tomioka. As Yashica’s owner Kyocera ended camera production in 2006, and Yashica lenses were then made by Cosina, who also manufactured most of the new Zeiss designs for the new Zeiss Ikon coupled rangefinder camera. Another licensee active today is Sony who uses the Zeiss name on lenses on its video and digital still cameras. Reputation Now over 150 years old, Zeiss continues to be associated with expensive and high-quality optical lenses. Zeiss lenses are generally thought to be elegant and well-constructed, yielding high-quality images. Even old lens designs such as the Tessar demonstrate engineering elegance and in the modern age of plastic parts, many Zeiss lenses are still made with predominantly metal components. Zeiss licenses its technology to be manufactured by third-party companies and indeed, many have done so. Notable names include Hasselblad, a famous name in medium format professional cameras. Rollei, Yashica, Sony, Logitech and Alpa amongst others, have used or manufactured lenses under Zeiss license. The Contax line of 35 mm cameras, first produced by Yashica and subsequently Kyocera until 2005 are perhaps the most well known to fit Zeiss lenses. Notably absent from this list are Canon, Nikon, and Pentax, who by and large produce their own lenses. On 27 April 2005 the company announced a collaboration with Nokia in the camera phone market. The first product to emerge out of this collaboration is the Nokia N90. Outside the world of cameras and imaging, Zeiss also produces spectacle lenses, particularly lenses made from high refractive index glass, allowing people whose prescriptions require stronger spectacles to use thinner lenses. These are sold in many countries. As of 2010 Carl Zeiss eyeglass lenses are sold in the United States through Carl Zeiss Vision Inc. The Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology subsidiary is a respected source of coordinate measurement machines and mutidimensional metrology systems. Zeiss is a recognized partner to the automotive industry. A unique triplet of ultra-fast 50 mm f/0.7 lenses originally created by Zeiss for NASA’s lunar program had the distinction of being reused by Stanley Kubrick in the filming of his historical drama, "Barry Lyndon". The period atmosphere of the film demanded that several indoor scenes be filmed by candlelight. To facilitate this, Kubrick had, with great difficulty, the lenses modified to mount onto a cinema camera and two of them subsequently further modified in separate ways to give wider angles of view. Zeiss is currently in the process of designing the optical components for the James Webb Space Telescope set to replace the Hubble Space Telescope sometime in 2018.

BFA has been riddled with bugs, imperfections, game system flaws and design choices that can be frustrating to say the least. But in the first few weeks of BFA I've noticed a trend where these things seem to change very quickly if its made public on a place like reddit where blizzard lose control over the negative publicity. (They don't seem to care much at all about their own forums, especially not the EU side. Bug reports for the dungeons and raid were to be found there in enormous numbers and yet they were never fixed or even adressed or mentioned.)/r/wow frontpage mentioned for example that Azerite pieces felt awful to not be able to trade, which then not two days after in the Q&A was adressed and fixed. Other cases include the parrot mount which had its saddle covered with the parrot texture instead of the saddle texture. which was fixed yesterday in a hotfix. This had been reported long before since the model displayed the same texture even in the mount inspect tool where you can inspect mounts before you own them. Even more recently we had the case of the weapon drop from Taloc which was then converted into a transmog item, which was promptly reversed after Blizzard noticed that the community expressed well-deserved outrage over the fact.So with this in mind, I figured I'd point out a few other things Blizzard might be interested in knowing. First are bugs that can be quite baffling, later they get a bit nit-picky.Bugs/features, who really knows at this pointIn waycrest manor, AoE Abilities like Divine Star and Halo (Halo in particular) for disc priest, so I assume many other abilities for other classes as well, sometimes pull the mobs in the basement even when you're upstairs and theres no way to deaggro them except for just dying. In waycrest manor, dying at the maggot packs that spawn more maggots out of you and releasing will sometimes (read: most times) cause the maggots to spawn at the dungeon enterance with you where you respawn. In freehold, if you cast a knockback on the brawlers that you need to slay before the 2nd boss while on the bridge, they can fall off and AFK in the water for a couple of minutes before finally despawning and then respawning so you can continue with your life and pull them again. Conversely, sometimes by doing this all of them despawn and you just skip the entire thing and the game gives you the pirate hat for the council without any effort. In Uldir you can try to pull and reset MOTHER by running back into Talocs room, which wouldn't be that strange... if it wasn't for the fact that if a havoc demon hunter does it and double dashes then she sometimes doesn't despawn and you get to do her fight in Taloc's room with 0 room mechanics. If you have a 370 staff weapon as a caster, and a 370 held in offhand or dagger drops for you, Personal Loot does not allow you to trade it since you own no dagger or offhand, only a staff. Why this is in the game is beyond me, but I guess Blizzard really resent the idea of us sharing loot amongst each other like... I don't know.. whats the word? A community? If you have a 370 ring and a 370 ring drops, you can not trade it if you dont have a 370 ring in your 2nd ring slot. In order to counter this mechanic you need to equip every item level increase in Rings in both ring slots (move the item up and down once) so the game thinks you own a ring for each slot. Then you outplay the personal loot system and you can trade rings again. This works the same for trinkets. The mechanical golems at the start of Motherlode that you would like to scrap as an engineer to get pieces for the new engineering mount dont count as scrappable. When you hover over them it says instead that they're "skinnable", but skinners can't skin them either. (This one I haven't confirmed if they've hotfixed or not yet, this was a couple of days ago.)In Temple of Sethralis, the orbs sometimes dont respawn if a Guardian tries to replace it on its pedestal, and your only choice is to reset the key because there is no way to continue the instance. The second to last boss in Shrine of the Storms, where you need to soak orbs to remove your mind control, doesn't remove the mind control debuff even after soaking all the orbs. It sometimes does after soaking 6 orbs or more, but that requires you to soak 1 full wave of orbs and then a bit of the next. Which means that the guy after you operates on incrementally fewer orbs at their disposal. This is however not consistent, sometimes you dont lose the pre-mindcontrol buff at all. (Edit: apparently this is a feature? Its hard to know sometimes so I hope you'll forgive me.)If the same fight finishes it also sometimes takes up to 20 seconds until the squid goes off your head, which might be a feature or a bug but who knows at this point. You can't attack the eels which is the next pack while you have it on you in any case.Taking the boat that goes between the different ferrey-stops in Tiragarde Sound can sometimes result in you running into one of the larger ships that sail about, resulting in your tiny boat getting stuck on the bigger ship, waiting for the bigger ship to move at an angle where your smaller boat is freed.Death Gripping the Purification Construct on the bridge towards the entombing boss room in King's Rest while its casting its laser Purification Beam will cause it to reverse the direction it was going rotationally, only to then correct itself 3 seconds later and go back in the direction it started off in.This one I'm not sure if its a feature or a bug either, but in Siege of Boralus at the last boss, the cannons block Line of Sight which makes healing the fight beyond infuriating. It's not a difficult addition to the fight since the rest of the terrain is fairly open, which is why it makes me think its more likely a bug than not. It only makes life awful for the healer as they run around the object in circles looking for angles to heal everyone. The same cannons (or atleast same model) in Tol Dagor do not block line of sight. In Temple of Sethralis, the Guardians at the last boss seem to spawn Sanguine. Maybe this is intentional, but no other dungeon bosses that I've found that include adds spawn Sanguine. This falls down under maybe bug I guess. This one is very minor, but the champions worldquest in Voldun which spawns near the bottomleft, edging on the desert where theres a tiny hole into the ground, last time it was up, spawned about 2 snakes every 2 minutes that 15 horde and alliance players had to share kills on. It took 15 minutes for me to finish the world quest because the azerite shards you click on the ground as part of this same world quest (the variant where you acquire %, not the heal 5 wounds one) stopped spawning after you collected each respective node once too.Disc priest mastery snapshots. If you put up Atonements and then use a mastery-giving trinket, your atonements do not take more healing appropriate to your new Mastery, but to the mastery you had when you applied them. Fuck knows if this is a feature. In Freehold, the turtle miniboss before the Ogre boss sometimes leaves a single shell that never stops bouncing. This might be a feature, but in Island Expeditions (I have not confirmed for this reset), healers pull an obscene amount of aggro that can be next to impossible to overthreat as a DPS. Healers definitely generate more threat in this game-mode than others, but this has never been explained anywhere so might be a bug so worth mentioning in case it could then get fixed. It could have something to do with Blizzards new AI made out of tibetan gold wanting to prioritize healers. In Island Expeditions, the resources gathered bar up top measuring your progress and the enemy team's progress sometimes spawns slightly outside the screen so you can't read the numbers.Like previously mentioned on this sub today, weapon enchants are listed under ring enchants on the Auction House. In Motherlode, the last boss casts a gatling gun which you need to dodge to get the achievment Ready for Raiding, but at the last second of the cast he abruptly turns to hit the tank with the last two ticks which makes the achievment impossible to obtain for any tanks, and incredibly confusing for non-tanks as well who stand behind the gatling gun the entire way only to immedeatly be met with it cancelling its animation to shoot them out of nowhere if the tank is trying to get the achievment with them.In Underrot, Cragmaw, if tanked closed to the edges of the room, can throw parasites outside the boundries of the map where you can't step on them to stop them from hatching. In Underrot, the last boss if tanked at the walls of the room shoots his vile spray backwards instead of the way he's facing because the spell can't find enough room ahead of him. So you can just stand AFK the entire fight and nuke him.Minor inconvenience, the Disc priest talent Sins of the Many doesn't say in its tooltip that your damage dealt increase only diminishes down to 3% and not 0%. You need to google this or constantly check your buff in combat to figure it out. Its a three-line tooltip, you really couldn't fit that crucial bit of information in there? This is just a few of the things I've found since launch and I'm but one player. I invite the rest of you to contribute with other bugs or strange design choices you've found that have probably been reported hundreds of times on the Blizzard forums, in the PTR and BETA clients, and in game on live too so that we might catalogue them. Maybe if we concentrate them all here in one big mega post that people can actually see then something will be done about it.Like I said, feel free to contribute with your own examples of absurdities you've found in BFA so far. And on a larger scale it might be worth discussing whether or not the fact that these things only gets fixed when great public attention is turned towards them is a good thing or bad? In Legion we had similar behaviour from Blizz with for example the getting stuck in the cages in m+ on Maw of Souls which was there at launch and remained unfixed until it one day happened in the MDI.Its honestly fairly depressing that we need to muster all our efforts to form a public outcry for many things to get fixed, let alone CHANGED. Do we need to collect signatures to prove to Blizzard that we want to be able to choose between Personal Loot and Master Looter so people who like each can use their own system? Collect signatures to show that there is a demand for classes to not be what arcane mage has become, where its close to a one-button spec? Collect signatures so bosses like Hyrja dont oneshot at Tyrannical unless you're an immunity class? Maybe I'm being unfair.EDIT: EDIT: The vote-brigading has been counteracted upon but I'll leave /u/elmaethorstars list here regardless:Adds on the last boss in Temple of Sethraliss, as well as dropping sanguine as you mentioned, also contribute to trash percentage which are likely the same bug or some sort of flag mix up.Likewise, adds on Lockwood in Siege of Boralus also count as trash percentage which I doubt is intentional.Sanguine pools from the tunnels in Tol Dagor can hit people upstairs with no visual indicator.Numerous Azerite armour tooltips do not display the correct values. For Holy Priest: Everlasting Light, Permeating Glow, and Twist Magic all consistently heal for more than they say they will without any +modifiers to healing active except versatility (and the differences are not the versatility percentages).Hunters still have animation lag on instant abilities when using guns or crossbows as a Tauren and several other races. This bug was introduced during patch 7.2 and has still not been fixed. It is particularly awful throughout Alliance BfA levelling because every ranged weapon reward is a crossbow.Power Word: Shield occasionally just fails on Prot Paladins with no indication of why.Hand of the Protector consistently fails to account for missing health and thus does incorrect healing. Coupled with the above bug, this makes this healer/tank combination very annoying to play.Divine Star on Priests continues to bug out on certain terrain even when there are no visible obstacles. via /r/wow

Tumblr media
War Thunder military MMO game received the Sons of Attila update on Linux, Steam Deck, Mac, and Windows PC. Thanks once again to the dedication of developer Gaijin Entertainment. Available now on Steam, Free to Play. If you're a fan of intense military action and strategy, there's some great news you might want to know about. War Thunder, the renowned online military MMO game, has just rolled out its major Sons of Attila update. And trust me, this War Thunder update is something you won't want to miss. First, let's talk about the hardware. Ever heard of the Leclerc AZUR or the Leopard 2 PSO tanks? These beasts also have a specific design, for urban warfare. Meaning they can weave and fight through city streets like no other in War Thunder. Then there's the Super Etendard attack aircraft. A bit of history here – this aircraft played a big role during the Falklands War. It's the very same model used by the Argentine Air Force to sink the British destroyer, Sheffield. The VIDAR SPG, on the other hand, is an export variant of the South Korean K9 Thunder. And it's been making waves in the global arms scene recently. Now, for those who like soaring through the skies in War Thunder, the Sons of Attila brings seven new helicopters. From the powerful OH-58D is in use by the U.S. and China to a line-up of Hungarian choppers like the Mi-24 variants. So there's a lot to explore. A standout here is the Mi-8TV. This is not just any helicopter; it's an assault version that boasts the most powerful payload capacity.
