Hi, I need this reminder almost daily, and it's one of my favorite things I've written for anything Goinko-related since I wrote this months ago. IDK if/when I'll post part 2 for Before I Love You, but this interaction between Rinko and Yuzuki is something that I think is incredibly important for everyone.

And just because someone else doesn’t see your worth does not mean that you are any less.” She wiped her tears, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “Do not let someone else’s broken lens distort your view of yourself.”

“It hurts, Mom,” she cried. She clutched her chest, desperately wishing she could reach inside and rip whatever was causing the excruciating pain out. “Why does it hurt so much? Why won’t it go away?”

“Because you’re heartbroken, darling,” her mother replied sadly. “I know it hurts. I know it does. And I wish I could take it away from you so you didn’t have to feel this way. But it will go away. Just give yourself time.”

As someone who has struggled with my mental health and my own worth for as long as I can remember, and I've realized over time that it's partially influenced by a deep-seated fear of abandonment due to being adopted, the line from Yuzuki about not letting someone else's broken lens distort my view of myself is something I didn't realize I would need so deeply until after I wrote it.

So, this is everyone's reminder that someone else not seeing your worth never makes you any less. It says more about them than it does about you. You're beautiful and deserve love, no matter what anyone may say or think 💕

He eventually decided on Ryoma and built the other characters around him

Hello! I’m Antonio, an artist based in Finland (I also have an art blog) I’ve always loved Tumblr’s blogging format so I thought it would be fun to start a new page and blog my process and thoughts when making photography zines/books. Its a fairly new venture for me and something I hope to get better at as I go.  I painted the image above for a book I am working on at the moment. “Lenkki” in this context means Loop and it will contain photos I took in my daily walks during my time in Järvenpää (2017-2022), a city in the south of Finland. The book will serve as a nice memory of my time there. I plan on presenting the images as digital contact sheets, showing the good and “bad” pictures equally. I was inspired books like Daido Moriyama’s Labyrinth as well as Rinko Kawauchi’s Sheets where they only contain unfiltered series of images. I found them so fascinating because it feels like looking into their thought process when approaching a subject to shoot. You could tell when the photographer wanted to reframe their composition, approach the subject from a different angle or when they move on to the next thing. Similarly it feels like looking at an artist’s sketchbook. I think the idea is easy to execute but it’ll take me a while to export all these photos... we’ll see. Himari Asami

"Himari Asami, also known as 'MARI'. Much of subject's early life is unknown, save for the fact that she was placed in her primary caretaker's home at the age of five for unknown reasons. Besides that, subject has a record within the Japanese police department as a hoodlum and a vandal. Subject has a record of: vandalism, assault, and numerous other charges. It's safe to say that subject has spent more time in jail than out of it.

"Subject is one of founding members of former Kyoto supergroup, the Darling Divaz, which including Subject Lana Alarie of Kyoto. Group sadly ended a year later after subject committed murder against one of the members of the group, Kaede Kiyomi. As such, subject was once again sentenced to prison. Subject was let out by Otome-sama on the condition that she compete in the D.R.B. It is unknown if subject has made contact with Subject Lana Alarie following her release from prison, and what their current relationships are, though personal opinion believes it to be hostile."

Rinko Yamate

"Rinko Yamate, also known as 'Electric Rose'. Subject is a well-known violinist, being taught how to play by her parents, both of whom are musically gifted. Subject was beloved for her skill at the stringed instrument, but stopped playing at the height of her career after she and a close friend of hers were held up at gunpoint by a hoodlum, who sadly killed the subject's friend and severely injured her. Subject refused to put on anymore concerns due to the trauma the ordeal had inflicted on her.

"Subject announced, after a six-year hiatus, that she would not only be resuming her concerts, but also of her plans to enter the D.R.B. It is unknown, at this time, how she and Subject Himari made contact with one another."

Kyoko Maruyama

"Kyoko Maruyama, also known as 'Inari'. Subject is a shrine maiden at one of the temples in the city of Miyazaki. Subject was placed in her grandparents' care after her mother was brutally murdered in front of her eyes by her father. Years later, she became a victim of domestic violence after being injured daily by her ex boyfriend who's only alias is 'Sora'. After finding out what had occurred, her eldest sister brutally attacked her ex, landing her behind bars. To keep her eldest sister out of jail, subject decided to join the D.R.B., working alongside her teammates. While her acquaintanceship with Subject Rinko is known, how she met and befriend Subject Himari is still being discovered."

Beautiful Nightmare

"Though not technically affiliated with us, Miyazaki Division, 'Beautiful Nightmare' could be considered a Chuohku team due to 2/3 of the team being indebted to Chuohku for keeping them or their loved ones out of jail. Miyazaki team is relatively new, and as such, has not made a real impact yet on the D.R.B. scene. Confrontation with the group seems unlikely, but caution should be advised, especially with subject Himari, who, unlike her teammates, has prior knowledge and experience with rapping and being in a team.

"Should confrontation ensue, eliminating Subject Himari first should be the main course of action due to her ability and her, as previously mentioned, rapping skill. Her teammates, though their abilities can prove dangerous, are not deemed to be a threat. Should Subject Himari fall, the other subjects will fall as well.

"Report and analysis on Miyazaki Division, Beautiful Nightmare, is completed. Moving on to next available assignment."

jdorama autumn 2022

We'll start off with the medical shows.

PICU / Paediatrics Intensive Care Unit (10.3%) Stars: Yoshizawa Ryo, Yasuda Ken

I really wanted to like this drama. Yoshizawa Ryo has improved a lot in his acting, and most of the supporting actors (Yasuda Ken, Kimura Fumino, Kikuchi Rinko) are all veterans. There are some good lessons in it - for example, the root cause analysis in the first episode, and the ethical issues of discussing treatment plans without the guardian present.

But even then, it was hard to suspend my disbelief, and it looks like people in Biei are protesting about the unrealistic portrayal of the local services. The central idea that they set up a PICU (paediatrics ICU) with ONE nurse and three doctors already threw me. Dafuq? You can't run a unit with one nurse (* not that places haven't tried), much less an 8-bedded ICU - which by definition means one on one nursing 24/7. Or even small things like doing a root cause analysis meeting immediately after a death while everyone is still upset and shaken. Yes no doubt it is important to review where things went wrong, but the most important thing (apart from checking the family is coping) is supporting your own staff's mental health, and it's not done by hounding the most junior staff until they're in tears.

Inori no Karute / The Records of Hope (6.5%) Stars: Tamamori Yuta

Like PICU, there are things I really like about this show and there are things that really threw me. Firstly, I really like how the interns were rotating between specialties. I don't know if this is a new thing in Japan, because my understanding is they used to go directly into their specialty, but I always give extra points to medical shows that make the effort to acknowledge there is more than one specialty in hospital and that in fact medical treatment isn't all surgical or crit care!

The second thing I really like is the focus on medical records (although that message seems to have gotten diluted in following episodes). Good records capture something beyond the clinical diagnosis and treatment, and it fleshes out the person -- their social supports, their way of dealing with grief and conflict, their motivations and fears. Sometimes even without the note-taker actively trying, you can glimpse these in the notes. There is value in diagnostics, there is value in good communication...but this show acknowledges there's value in historical documents that contextualises the present and gives us clues as to why someone is seeking help this time.

That said, there are lots of small things that threw me as well. Some things being disclosed when it would clearly violate privacy. Some of the interns being way too invested in the private lives of the patients (to the point it's crossing major professional boundaries). Or the fact that in the first episode, the entire friggin hospital turned up for a Code Blue. Please. You've all got work to do!

Travel Nurse (11.9) Stars: Okada Masaki, Nakai Keichi

Written by the team that brought you the 7 (or was it 9) season power fantasy Doctor X about an independent-minded anti-authoritarian doctor who did surgery for hire...comes a story about an independent-minded anti-authoritarian nurse who does...nursing for hire.

I did like: the fact that there's two main characters, and that the younger character has already made a few mistakes that gets corrected by the older one, so he's not in the "I never fail" league that Daimon Michiko is in (which gave me the shits anyway so good riddance). I have a soft spot for Okada so it's nice to see him back on TV. I also did like the introduction of nurse practitioners, which is not something you see a lot...but...

I didn't like: the idea that one nurse practitioner can do the jobs of 10 nurses is probably a little insulting to nurses. Apparently Japan doesn't recognise nurse practitioners? So the main character is legally not allowed to use his nurse practitioner skills in daily practice? So it remains to be seen why him being a nurse practitioner is relevant to the story. The scene where the older nurse was literally going to watch someone under his care suffocate until he agreed to something deemed good. Personally, this is a huge transgression. Health workers are not jury or police. Your job is to provide healing to people, not to judge their actions and decide whether they're worth saving. That's a massive slippery slope with huge ethical ramifications. Just. No.
