I don’t know, if we’re gonna be true to the source material, then Elise doesn’t really have a role, and Chris is the one who has the Flames of Disaster sealed inside him. KYLE: [laughing] Oh no! Oh! IAN: “Chris, whatever you do, you can’t cry!” [as Chris, weepily] “But why?!” [Iblis roar] KYLE: It’s all he does! [laughs] No! IAN: Oh, man, now I’m imagining Mephiles with, like, that really bad early 2000s CG effect. All these awful filters flyin’ around. KYLE: Oh, God, no! [laughing] This would be awful. IAN: You’d have, like, the budget episodes where Soleanna and New City are just, like, these flat, grey urban textures that have like, no depth, but then you get to the final episode where they’re doing the Super fight against Solaris, and the animation bump goes through the roof, and it’s glorious. And you forgive the last 26 episodes of your life that you’ve wasted watching it so far. KYLE: Mhm. IAN: [choking the words out through high pitched, wheezing laughter] This means Chris is the one that kisses Sonic back to life! [fit of maniacal laughter] KYLE: [frantic, horrified laughter] No! No! No! No! Ian, no! Ian! No! IAN: [prolonged cackling laughter] KYLE: The worst timeline! Oh, no! IAN: Oh, and Eggman has to be as close as they can get him to photorealistic Eggman in the Sonic X style. KYLE: No! IAN: Which does not work at all! KYLE: No, no, no! No! IAN: Oh, yeah, that’d be fantastic. [microphone glitches] That’s the only reason to do this. KYLE: That would be— yeah. Oh… IAN: Oh, would they try to hand-animate Omega? Or would he be like, early 2000s CG? KYLE: Just crappy CG, no! IAN: That you just composite into each shot… oh, man, it’d be awful! KYLE: [pained sound not unlike he is receiving a fully conscious appendectomy] Oh! IAN: Wait! [microphone glitches again] They did the weird thing with Sonic and Shadow’s spines when they would turn their heads. What would Silver look like?! KYLE: [resigned groan] IAN: Would it just be like, one giant spine, depending on the angle? [bursts into laughter] KYLE: [groans as if he is dying] Ian… what are you doing… why are you— IAN: [microphone glitches again as if resisting] The Iblis monsters would have the terrible CG effects, too! KYLE: Why am— why am I the reasonable one!

IAN: [laughs] KYLE: Why am I the one who’s being… [gives up on finishing this sentence] IAN: Forget the comic, the comic can’t hold a candle to this idea! KYLE: Oh, no… IAN: [in awe] What a glorious trainwreck! KYLE: What’s even funnier is that your mic is trying to stop you. IAN: [cackles] KYLE: It’s not working. [laughs] So cursed! IAN: The whole thing would be so awful… KYLE: Yeah? IAN: But then there would be, like, this incredibly well-written and poignant subplot about Elise dealing with her emotional trauma, and how Soleanna as a country even works. And it’s like, maybe an episode, maybe two that really gets into it and fleshes out this world in a meaningful and robust manner. KYLE: [chuckles] Yeah. IAN: And that’s it. That’s like— that and Dan Green are the only redeeming things out of this season. KYLE: [sigh, reading chat] Ian, in the chat… IAN: Yeah. KYLE: In the Bumblekast Discord server, open it up. There’s a little piece of art there. Someone has, uh, sketched Silver. [chuckles] IAN: [seeing it, delighted, evil] Yes! KYLE: [laughing] IAN: Cursed Toucan Sam! KYLE: [cackles] Oh no! Why do you…? the sun was bright, the sky clear and the breeze was cool, all this to say that i was having the worst day of my life atm. my dad was being the biggest dick head in the entire world and because he cant handle any kind of emotion or female at that he kicks me out in the blink of an eye, im sorry but im not a maid. i had to pack in a day, be out and hunting the next, and just yesterday was i approved to move into my new apartment, my own space that i can dominate to do what i want, i should be happy to be on my own at my big age of 21 but for some reason i feel bad for leaving an old man alone, but then again im not dealing with his yelling and commanding for any longer. at this moment i am moving in, i have to carry each, and every, LARGE BOX, up stairs and into my apartment MYSELF. i make my way back down to the moving van and so happen to see someone standing by it with two other people i don't know, i got a little anxious because i wanted to be a bit more on the down low but damn, three people at once. as i got closer i was able to register the people, a tall built blonde, an average sized purple haired woman and a short dark haired man. they seem friendly from afar but as i got closer and into their bubble the small mans energy makes me a little more on guard, i didn't say a word as i got closer because all i heard was the smaller man ranting about how no one was allowed to move in because its only ever an inconvenience to him and how all people are stupid and problems only come from new people. i just stood behind him and listened, by the time the other two noticed me but he was facing away from me, they looked at him and pointed in my direction. He was mid sentence when he glanced my way "OH, AND I SUPPOSE YOUR THE-" he abruptly looked me over and clasped his hands behind him and straightened his back "ooooh, you must be my new neighbor! im dan and this is my best friend Chris........and his wife Elise" he gestured to the other two people who were waving at me "hello, and welcome to the neighborhood i hope you're not moving all of this in yourself" Elise said, i smiled and introduced myself "its nice to meet you, im (y/n)". dans eyes haven't moved from my form at all but i act like i don't notice how weird he is to not hurt his feelings or embarrass him " uuuh, yeah. im kinda on my own but ill be ok" i smiled tiredly. Elise and Chris immediately volunteer to help me carry boxes into my house but i deny it to be nice, though i really do need help "dont worry (y/n) its not a problems at all we wouldn't want you to tire yourself out on your first day in your new apartment" Chris said. i smiled and looked at all of them " thank you so much, you guys are some of the kindest people I've met so far" i purposely didn't make eye contact with dan when saying that, and it caused him to to quip in " i can help, im nice too!" feeling bad i looked at him and smiled " of course id appreciate it, and maybe i can make us all dinner when we are finished" the blonde man with a box already in his arms snapped his head in my direction "yes please" and i giggled at that, hes funny and his wife is really sweet, i might want to consider a friendship, but dan is.... i don't know right now but we'll see.

After placing a few things that need to be put in place, i sat chris elise and dan in the living room and allow them to pick what to watch and even play games, but dan was consistent on getting in the kitchen to stare up at me and ask questions every 5 minutes like a toddler. I give up and sigh "look dan if your going to ask so many questions then you might as well put on that apron and help" it was silent, but seconds later dan has a stepping stool pulled up next to me and is wearing a frilly pink apron, i giggled at how willing he is to help me all of a sudden, hes been quieter ever since hes first saw me, almost like hes thinking constantly but about what, its not like hes not enjoying my company, i show him what to cut and how to cut it and he listens, him helping is making the process quicker. We both go to grab the last tomato and our hands touch, his on top of mine, even though i did jump a little he didn't move away at first, as if he liked the contact, when he did pull his hand away he was furrowing his brows and blushing "I-I FORGOT I HAVE TO GO FEED MR MUMBLES" and ran through the door and im assuming to his apartment. 'hm....whats all this about now' I shrug it off and scramble to finish the pasta i was making and go to sit with chris and elise with our plates "hey wheres dan" i shrugged my shoulders and sat his food in front of him and elise and sit with my own "something about feeding mr mumbles, i suppose its a cat or dog but ill head over and give him his food later im hungry right now" and with that we all ate, and after we ate we talked and even played games, and when it was time for them to leave it was late, i walked them to their car and hugged them both "thank you guys for all the help, i couldnt have asked for a better first experience and i hope we can become good friends" i say and smile "well with that meal you just cooked us consider us buddies!!!" Chris said out of his window "yea well be sure to keep in touch and maybe we can help you seek out stuff for your apartment too!" Elise had quipped, and after all of our goodbyes they drove off. After i watch them drive off i make my way up stairs and back to my apartment, as im passing each window i stopped by dans because i heard what sounded like ranting but it wasnt like earlier, where he was angry and sporadic but more low and gentle, sounded like he was kinda disappointed or sad. An idea pops into my head, maybe hes just alone and doesnt like when he feels left out, so i headed to my apartment and got two slices of cake and his dinner and went to dans, i will share this cake with him and hopefully become best neighbors and even friends, maybe then he wont be so awkward, i knocked on his door and smiled for hospitality, but for some reason it took a short while for dan to answer. i go to knock again when the door is swung open and dan is standing there looking a little down, not sad but not too enthused either "hey dan....i noticed you missed dinner so....i thought id bring it over for you, also i was hoping we could share dessert and you know...talk, get to know each other?" For a split second fear was shown on his face and while his eyes darted around his apartment he wasn't looking too sure"i-i would be honored to enjoy dessert with you, its just- my apartment is a mess" and he held his door wide open in shame. i peer in with no visible reaction but holy hell was it cluttered, usually people with depression or deteriorating mental state cant clean or notice when its too dirty, they just dont process it the same. I frown dont at dan with sympathy "dan im not one to judge but have you ever consider asking for help, i mean im sure no one wants to see you like this" his eyebrows furrow and he clenches his fist "NO BECAUSE IM NOT WEAK I CAN HANDLE THINGS ON MY OWN" aah there it is "what if i offer to come over and help ill even make us lunch" i say sweetly, purposefully sounding cute, he groans and blushes, then fidgets with his hands "ok but......dont mock me or use this against me, ill ruin your life" he said the last part as a threat, i smiled

Man, I'm thinking about Sonic 06 again. I know it's a terrible game questionable decisions and a troubled development, but you know? 12 year old me and currently 30 year old me probably appreciated it best for the concepts, characters, music, and basically everything BESIDES the gameplay.

Like, Shadow was handled SUPRISINGLY well. Not a single connection to his past, just him getting entangled in the plot and trying to figure out Mephiles, and coming to terms with being hunted and sealed away in the future. The unshakeable friendship with Rouge, the hurt he hides well upon finding out Omega was programmed to seal him away, sort of becoming a brief mentor to Silver when they uncover the truth, and the bad ass line that is "If the world chooses to become my enemy, I'll fight like I always have" when faced with a demon that refuses to die and releasing his inhibitor rings- previously only done in game against The Final Hazard. Gameplay wise, his homing multi attack and chaos drive was actually pretty cool, especially with his red aura. Also Jason Griffith sounded really cool.

Silver himself is also incredibly overhated and underrated by fans and SEGA themselves. His character design is pretty cool, his powers are unique, and his backstory is sad and understandable when you realize he's even younger than Sonic. Watching him lose his friends- Amy when she finds out Sonic was his target after they bonded, PROBABLY his first friend he's made other than Blaze; and Blaze acting as his rock to keep him steady and SACRIFICING HERSELF to save the future, leaving him alone AGAIN. Yeah its complicated and never explained properly how she came there, but god it's such a cool dynamic. Sonic p06 actually is helping to show off just how cool of a character he could have been to control, especially by taking his cutscene speed into account.

Now Elise is complicated. It is definitely weird they had her fall in love with Sonic and kiss him back to life- however, if we ignore that, the friendship she was building with Sonic and their adventures together was actually rather sweet in it's own way. Perhaps if they simply wrote out the romance angle and simply kept it to admiration and friendship, then she would have been better accepted- like at least she's not Chris from Sonic X, cmon. Sonic being this fun guy that's there to teach her how to relax or to just be a fun, non political figure in her life is such a fun idea, too, being honest, its a fun trope that's been around forever and i never tire of it. Sonic isn't really one that needs a ton of character development because part of his charm is just how free, brave, and a bit happy go lucky he is in spite of the dangers around him. Really, their friendship could have been a lot like how KH handles the humans being friends with Mickey, Donald, and Goofy, with surprising wisdom, silliness, and bravery coming from the cartoony animal friend and the very human character learning a lot from them and growing. It would certainly help if Elise maybe hung out with other characters, too (maybe have that bit in the beginning where she sees Silver again actually play out).

I think the biggest loss from the retcon at the end was losing Mephiles. Mephiles as a villain was INCREDIBLE considering everything wrong with the game. Cold, calculated, scheming, not to mention Dan Green just bringing his absolute BEST here, like it's very rare to see a character like him in Sonic games, let alone the way he manipulates people by... not exactly lying. Sonic in a way WAS the Iblis Trigger- Mephiles killed him and Elise released Iblis. The way he presented only the cold truths to Shadow- he's a devil, but not wrong, because everyone did turn their backs on Shadow. His designs, too, are cool af- Shadow on a conceptual level was meant to be Sonic's shadow and fold, but Mephiles became that for Shadow QUITE LITERALLY by taking his form for himself, and this time it ACTUALLY makes sense and isn't just a huge coincidence. Going even further with the demonic form is icing on the cake, especially considering just 1 game ago, that could have been Shadow himself if he gave into Black Doom's temptations. Mephiles is such an interesting villain, but alas he was retconned out of existence and doomed to a bad game, so I doubt he'll even return in Shadow Generations.

Then the entire concept of the story involving time travel, adding more abilities that can be used with the Chaos Emeralds (time travel and soul... binding? Sealing?), the ruins, the Venice inspired city itself, the landing wasn't there but the ingredients WERE. So was the gameplay, 06 could have easily been Sonic Adventure 3, and they probably avoided that title because they knew the game would be a bust. Ugh. Ugh. But the MUSIC. FUCKING HELL THE MUSIC. His World is probably the best game theme from the entire franchise (so much so they made 17 versions lol), and Dreams of an Absolution CHANGED something in me as a kid. Shit, I'm still listening to Aquatic Base and Kingdom Valley all these years later.

Also... maybe controversial, I liked these models the best. The current ones are too short and plastic looking tbh. We'll, for Sonic, Shadow, Silver, Omega, and Blaze, the rest are definitely weird but the longer legs actually fit Silver pretty well with his boots in comparison to later 3d models.

Oh man. I don't think I'll ever get over this. I've had to come to terms with a lot of "what could have beens" in my life but I don't think I'll ever fully get over what was lost here. The potential for what could have been the best Sonic game ever and a game that could have defined a generation, LOST because some jackasses up top demanded that Christmas money. A development cycle so awful that Yuji Naka left Sonic Team, as did many other devs working on the game... Splitting the already struggling team down even FURTHER to try and make 06 for the Wii, realizing that the Wii was not going to be as powerful as the 360/ps3, and deciding to turn that into Secret Rings (oh look MORE squandered potential). Introducing characters that are cool as shit, only to be forever scarred by the fact they appeared in a bad game. Not only this, but said bad game had Sonic's friends in it, making it so assholes in reviewing would go on this "Sonic and his shitty friends" tyrade that would result in us not really getting to play any other characters in an official capacity until QUITE recently... as dlc for Frontiers. Or Shadow, but in Forces he was just Sonic again.

This is my Roman Empire, I swear.

I hope that when ChaosX finishes up with p-06, fans can somehow work together to create a more cohesive story to really rectify what could have been, complete with better character development and some major plot holes either explained or filled in. In my heart, I would really love 06 to get a redemption arc and go from one of the worst Sonic games ever (Boom now holds that title- again, squandered potential) to one of the BEST ever. Like so good that even SEGA says "actually THIS is canon now." Idk, it'd be so much vindication for middle schooler DD.

God I've actually prayed to see the universe where 06 became Adventure 3, or 07/08 instead and was the best game ever. Like many things in life, I'll probably never get to see or play it in it's fully realized state.
