hold it steady.
@danielxrk
he has to remind himself, over and over, that daniel said it was okay for him to come over. he has to tell himself that wanting his friend’s company and support doesn’t necessarily make him a burden. he has to convince himself that if he breaks down, for real this time, in front of daniel, he won’t also abandon him.
woong’s feet feel heavy, like lead, the whole walk up to daniel’s door. he hesitates on the stoop anyways. daniel had said he’d leave it unlocked, but there’s something unsetting and uncomfortable about walking into someone else’s home. he had that feeling the first several times he walked through the door at his stepfather’s place. now he supposes he’ll have to learn how to get used to entering a new doorframe, somehow. someplace.
the hesitation lasts a moment too long to be comfortable, and woong settles on knocking as he lets himself in. it eases the stress just a little bit to at least announce he’s coming in beforehand.
“daniel?” he shuts the door behinds him, kicks off his shoes and nudges them over to the side, out of the way. but woong stays in the entrance until he’s invited further in, just in case daniel is actually too tired, already asleep, or otherwise busy. training is hard work, so woong has been told. maybe that’s why he choked before he even got the chance to walk into his trc audition.
and even now that he’s here, admitted some sort of weakness just by reaching out in the first place, woong has no idea how to share what lays so heavily on his heart with his friend. it’s here, all around them, filling the apartment with an insufferable tight bubble, begging to be popped and released. but woong doesn’t know where to start. daniel knows some of it; he’d know about the star bright casting call, about woong switching majors. he wonders if daniel might be able to guess the rest; being kicked out for being in a band isn’t too dissimilar to what’s going on right now.
but for now, woong waits for a more affirming welcome. he waits to be certain that he really is wanted in this space, to see his friend and gauge if he can even handle hearing his burdens right now. daniel has been dealing with a lot of his own crap; again, woong feels a flood of guilt for being here in the first place.

―come august ༄
it hadn’t been that many days since the exciting news but it was bubbling up inside of her-- maybe that was why it happened. when she walked the halls of sphere and spotted daniel she grinned widely at the younger male, waving her hand excitedly, “daniel,” she mused as she skipped in his direction, she could have done a better job at hiding her happiness but... no, she was debuting, after almost two years as a trainee and a survival/reality show last year she was finally going to be standing on a stage again.
“great day today,” she exclaimed but outside it was cloudy and they had been advised by the forecast to bring an umbrella-- sooyoung’s face was as bright as the sun would have been if it was out.”
maybe she shouldn’t be so obvious but could anyone really blame her? it had been a journey, shorter journey than some but that didn’t make hers less hard, even if it had been shorter-- she had the potential to debut already last year but she hadn’t been good enough but now she was good enough, at least she thought so-- her debut song would be a ballad, even if the pure concept didn’t suit her ( at least that is what she thinks ) -- she would be debuting and in august.

get inked!
ft. @danielxrk
though she’s ecstatic about the new changes in her trainee life, that didn’t mean she wasn’t upset about them as well. don’t get her wrong, it was great being able to have a chance to debut as an idol. hell, mina would like to say she’s often found herself dreaming about it. but, of course, even if she did get to see familiar faces (chungha, gahyeon, yoorim, yuzu) more often than she did before, she’d have to give up being able to be in more evaluations with daniel. no longer would she be able to go to him for help as a new trainee anymore. he was practically her way of getting through these months easily because she could rely on him. if she had help, she could simply go to him for his aid.
but, of course, they’re still able to talk with each other. after months of usually interacting the most with him on sunday nights, she wasn’t going to let him be mina-free that easily. the picnic was the perfect opportunity to get in some bonding time with her brother. and all goes good, but mina, being the bratty little sister that she is, has to play around somehow. so she makes a bet with him that if she finishes the entire basket of food before they even get to the event, he’d have to get an airbrush tattoo with whatever mina wanted it to say (”kang mina is the coolest and i smell like socks”).  and if she didn’t, vice-versa.
so, with her stomach full of food and a look of disappointment on her face, she sighs as she approaches the artist, her brother by her side. the artist asks if she has a request with reference and she shakes her head. “oh no. uh. i lost a bet with my brother, so i was wondering if you could give me a tattoo of whatever he wants it to say?” she pauses before looking back at him. “oppa,” she starts, “what do you want it to say?”

exhibit a ;
sunmi’s main hope for this class was that her attendees leave with a new sense of self. she knows that everyone gives it their all to their best skill and while that’s not an entirely bad thing, it can be a hindrance in their industry. that was a point she knew she had to make during the first part of her lecture.
“we all have to keep in mind that our industry all idols are expected to be multi talented. yes, you’re expected to be great in your strongest skill but then there comes a time where companies will expect more of you... and if you spent no time diversifying yourself then you will suddenly find yourself failing more than you find yourself passing. this is where your greatest strength suddenly becomes your weakness.”
she knows for some, they might not understand because they’ve never been in that situation. so this is why she had prepped and researched real life examples (including herself) to support her words. “there are some people who can’t find a balance to when they should use their best talent and when they shouldn’t. there comes a time in competitions and especially in training where if you keep doing the same thing it looks boring it comes off more as a gimmick. it becomes unimpressive and dull.”
sunmi had noted that a certain example of hers had actually joined her class. it was a surprise addition. she hadn’t anticipated on him being there. she had half a mind to scratch out his mention from her lecture but it was a main example. maybe she could turn it into something more positive: an example of someone diversifying themselves and no longer relying on their crutch.
“we have mr kang daniel here with us today,” sunmi starts with a nod towards him. she knows it seems sudden to be called out like this. she hopes it goes well. “you were on the mgas, right? two seasons?”

May Evaluation - Sphere Entertainment Inter-company Company; Sphere Boys vs TRC Boys (Team 1) Song: Egotistic (Remix) [line distribution, video reference] Performing with: @rksungmin, @danielxrk and @chrxsrk
Now that Daniel’s mentioned it, Moonbok can’t really get the thought of this evaluation being a ‘light’ version of the MGAs. 10 teams vying for the attention and praise of the CEOs of the Big Five. Thankfully, there seems to be no threat of elimination this time round, so the stomach churning nervousness isn’t there any mores. (He’s still nervous, of course. But nothing like back then.)
That doesn’t mean Moonbok intends to lose.
Of course, he never intended on losing during the MGAs either. But as their group is called forward, he firmly pushes any thoughts out of the competition of his head. Making their way to the stage, he smiles easily at the judges, laughing internally at the thought that they must be sick of him appearing in front of them like this. He even manages to not avoid Hyun Bin’s glance. (Mostly.)
Then the music starts and they fall into their roles. It had taken them less than a day to decide on CONVEX’s version of Egoistic, with Chris and Daniel adding their own twists to the song. While Moonbok felt a little guilty in not being able to contribute to the actual arrangement of their piece, Sungmin promised him he was doing the group a huge favour by taking a vocalist position instead of a rapping one.
(Personally, however, Moonbok still thinks that Sungmin is too harsh on himself.)
But you become the center anyway.  But you shouldn’t do whatever you want.
And Moonbok has to admit, he enjoys it much more than he’d thought. And even compared to when they’d all worked together at the start of the year, this performance felt even better than that one. As though they’d become more in tuned with each other and their strengths and weaknesses. (In fact, he almost regrets the fact that they don’t have to dance for this performance. Almost)
I wanna do whatever I want.
As he sings the song’s final line and their performance comes to an end, Moonbok is grinning and he pushes his hair back from his face. Hopefully, they’ve done enough to win, but even if they haven’t, it’ll just be a disappointment.
Because he’s not going anywhere. Not for a long time to come.

                                   ✥ YOU COMPLETE ME ✥
Complete - ONF (E-Tion) | @danielxrk, @rkseunghun, @ianrk, @rkserim, @mxnark
Choi Beomgyu was excited. Perhaps excited was an understatement. This was not only his first evaluation since becoming a trainee, but it was also a big event. This month’s evaluation was part of a summer party and Beomgyu was probably more excited for the party itself more than anything. He loved social gatherings and this gathering sounded like a big one.
He was ready for it.
Beomgyu knew only two people from his group; Serim and Mina. Serim was Soobin’s best friend and Soobin was Beomgyu’s childhood friend. Plus they attended the same school. Mina he had seen hanging around with Soobin before. Now he had a chance to get to know them better and Beomgyu was excited. Anyone who knew Soobin was cool in his books.
Being a trainee was nothing like he had imagined. He had pictured something completely different. Being a trainee was definitely much harder than he anticipated. Couple that with the fact that he’s a high school student and Beomgyu had very little time to socialise and spend doing things he loved. All his time was now taken by studying or training and Beomgyu longed for some free time, even if just to dance. His participation with INBEAT had been severely reduced and he missed his second family.
Arriving at the location, Beomgyu could sense the party vibes even from outside. He was anxious to attend the party and meet his favourite idols but first he had to perform. Thankfully, he had members of his group who were experienced with evaluations and had provided him with tips and advice to help him. They had rehearsed like crazy and the song they chose was fun to perform.
He took some time to himself while waiting so he could focus and run over the lyrics and choreography. He ignored the nerves that came out of nowhere and took some deep breaths. The realisation that this was his first evaluation since signing with TRC hit him suddenly and Beomgyu had to wipe the sweat that was forming on his forehead. When their group was called, Beomgyu had to force his feet to move.
Standing on the stage in front of the few judges was more nerve-wracking and worse than standing in the streets of Hongdae while performing surrounded by strangers. There was no turning back now and he needed to focus on the performance. Beomgyu was a dancer and he could not mess this up.
The dance was large and the moves quick and energetic. He was thankful that  he only had a few lines this performance since it meant he could focus on dancing which was his forte. As soon as the music began, Beomgyu became the focused and talented dancer he was whenever he performed.

                          ╰☆╮ SAGITTARIUS SQUAD ╰☆╮
Kangaroo - Triple Position (Woojin) | @danielxrk, @rkpcy
It seemed like fate was playing tricks on him once again considering Sungmin was once again working with Daniel. Even though it had been some months since the two friends last worked together, history was once again repeating itself. Sungmin didn’t mind, however, and was actually pleased to be working with Daniel once again. Meeting Chanyeol had been surprisingly pleasant and the two rappers managed to get along which helped their working together.
This month’s evaluation theme was, well, unique and something that the rapper had least expected. Sungmin had never paid any mind to what his star sign was or how it related to him. He had had to look up what his star sign was once the announcement was released since he had zero idea. Even as preparations began and the month came to and end, Sungmin was still clueless as to what the hell a Sagittarius was.
Finding a song that fit with the Sagittarius theme had been difficult and it had taken some time before the trio had settled on a song. Once they had agreed on what they were going to perform, the group then set about preparing and rehearing for the end of the month evaluation.
As each month passed, Sungmin found himself improving on his rapping and he’s been able to learn new tips and tricks. He’s also been able to learn new skills that he hopes could come in handy one day. Still, a big part of him misses his old life and performing underground and he often ponders whether or not to return to his underground life or to keep pursuing his new life. Sungmin was still not sure if he wanted to be an idol and he missed the freedom that he had once had.
Despite his uncertainties, Sungmin prepared for September’s evaluation and rehearsed hard with Daniel and Chanyeol. He focused on memorising the lyrics as well as work on his stage presence and rap techniques. There was some singing required for this evaluation and those were the parts he spent the most time working on since he was not a singer.
When it was time for their performance, Sungmin felt confident that the trio would pass the evaluation easily. They had worked hard rehearsing and preparing and Sungmin only hoped it showed in their performance.

@danielxrk
of course, when she hopes that the mgas will come back for her she wishes it to be in the form of a swarm of fans expressing their love. instead, of course, she needs to watch freaking kang daniel walk into her classroom. her classroom! the audacity. nakyung’s acting skills are reserved solely for moments like these. she smiles but towards somewhere else. it’s like ignoring the people you went to middle school with when you spot them at the mall. the problem is, of course, she’s supposed to help all these people with their questions.
eye contact is completely avoided during the first part of the class when it’s mostly the instructor going through what they need to. when it’s time for the students to give it a try themselves, nakyung continues to smile when she’s told to help one specific student. son of a bitch. “hello,” she says with her unfaltering smile. “daniel, right?” she knows, but she chuckles. he knows that she knows. “do you need any help?”

@danielxrk
he vaguely remembers dabbling in beatboxing a few years back, but he can’t recall exactly what it was for. he’s fairly certain it was for some evaluation or workshop of some sort, but he can’t remember for the life of him the specifics of it, and he doesn’t know if that reflects badly on his memory, or if it goes to show just how long he’s been a trainee at trc. but he supposes that doesn’t matter at the moment. what matters now is that he feels like he’s learning from scratch all over again, having not taken so much as a follow up lesson after the fact, and that means at least a year of having what he’s learned go untouched and unpolished; he can barely even remember the basics anymore.
but, he muses, watching as a fairly familiar face tries his very best to follow along with the lesson, at least he’s not struggling as much as some others. and as funny as chanyeol finds it, it’s actually quite soothing to know that he’s not alone in this; not that many of the other people around him are any better either. he approaches daniel, lips pursed to keep himself from straight up laughing in his face, and leans in just close enough for his hushed words to be heard. “getting any good beats out of this?” he asks, tone light and airy, very obviously teasing, but without any ill intentions. “or are we both just making random noises and hoping for the best?”

WONDER WHAT THEY THINK ❔
                                                    ✧  ━━━  ( @danielxrk )
sphere is as lively as ever -- convex reaching new peaks, a new girl group on the horizon. so many plans for the future ahead, and taeyong is incredibly excited for what’s to come for everyone here. he believes that baek jiyoung is thinking completely outside the box and is at her absolute prime right now, so who knows what could happen? taeyong wouldn’t put it past her to come up with the industry’s next biggest band or soloist.
and who does taeyong think fits that category the most around here? in his opinion, it is the star of the mgas himself -- daniel. shame that he hasn’t actually met him in person -- from the lens of a television screen, though, he seems incredibly nice and talented. perfect place for him, in his opinion -- if anyone’s to help him harness his talent, it’s miss baek jiyoung herself. he reminds taeyong of her for some weird reason, just by appearance -- might be too much of stretch, but taeyong’s sure he’s lovely either way.
taeyong feels as though he knows this place like the back of his hand now -- every nook, every cranny. there’s just a complete influx of people, constantly changing and constantly moving. it makes it quite difficult to meet and befriend everyone with the amount of time he has, especially since he’s become a full-fledged idol. he’s always bumping into people, as if there’s just an endless sea of people to meet. today, he actually sees daniel across the room from him in the cafeteria -- he attempts to make eye contact with him, and once he does, he walks up to him with a smile on his face. “hi daniel! how has this been our first time meeting?”

if you thought i was losing sleep;
@danielxrk; slightly backdated but i didn’t look up the exact date
it’s taken no less than two weeks for woong to start to get used to staying in someone else’s home. it’s been fourteen nights of tossing and turning, not yet used to the new nighttime sounds heard from the futon in daniel’s living room. woong can’t call this place his home, not when every time he enters the door he still feels like he should be ringing the buzzer instead of punching in a passcode and entering as he pleases. it was incredibly kind of daniel to allow him to stay here during the strange in-between time since his stepfather asked him to move out and not yet having the means to truly support himself on his own. woong can’t help but be haunted by a vague sense of ungratefulness whenever discomfort hits him here. and yet he can’t seem to keep it from happening.
a particularly loud (at least to woong’s unfamiliar ears) noise from the window wakes him from his sleep. it doesn’t startle him awake, not exactly, but his eyes do slowly blink open. he rolls over to grab his phone. 1:58 am. he lets out a low grumble to himself, and pulls the blanket over his head. after what feels like an eternity of laying there and listening to alien sounds, woong looks at his phone again. 2:19am. the groan he lets out this time is a little bit louder and a little bit longer. it’s not the first time he’s experienced this; any hope of getting more sleep is thrown away, at least for now, and he kicks his blanket off to sit up on the futon. he has to pee.
only on his way back to the couch from the bathroom does he realize that there’s a dim light coming from the kitchen. woong knows better than to assume an intruder; it’s daniel, probably trying to be considerate of his supposedly sleeping guest. woong can already guess why he’s awake. if it isn’t homework, it’s anticipation for his trip tomorrow. he’s already heard all about it. a music video shot in busan, daniel chosen out of all the sphere trainees to make an appearance in it. woong didn’t have to pretend to be happy for him. it was easy this time.
instead of going back to bed, he tiptoes into the kitchen area, confirming his suspicions that daniel is there and far too awake for this hour of the night. he’s quiet when he approaches, pausing for a moment just to assess before making his presence known.
“can’t sleep?” he already knows the answer, but what else does one say at this time? woong slips into a seat across from daniel, folding his arms on the table and pillowing his head on top of them as if he were more tired than he’s currently feeling. “you better be able to sleep the whole way to busan tomorrow. don’t want to make your sphere music video debut with bags under your eyes.”
he studies daniel’s face instead of saying anything else, gauging the emotion and reaction he can find there. maybe he doesn’t want any company right now, maybe he’d rather be left alone with his nerves. woong would understand, he’s too often the same way. but if he knows daniel, which he thinks he does, he’d say that his friend would prefer company to solitude in times like these. he can only assume that any amount of anxiety that comes from what’s promised to happen can only be the good kind, the bubbly sensation that fizzes over and has to be shared with anyone who will listen. well, woong can listen. he’d almost say he’s happy to, at least when it comes to daniel.

―its time to shine, solo ༄
Tumblr media
when her name was called as the next girl in line for debut she looked around at the other girls. trying at first to hold back a smile but she couldn’t hold it in for long and before long she found herself smiling, a warm smile because she was finally debuting. her journey wasn’t over-- not yet and she didn’t know how to feel or what to think about it all but she knew so many things would change for her and sooyoung didn’t know what this meant but she was ready for this new change in her life.
upon hearing her solo song she listened to it carefully-- she liked it, it was a ballad and she herself prefers to sing ballads but also, it seemed to suit her voice and this month she would be practicing her debut song, moving into a dorm and everything seemed so sudden.
                                                                     --
almost a week had passed since she had gotten the song, sooyoung spent more time in the vocal practice rooms than with the group itself but she wanted and had to perfect the song, to the best of her abilities. so she wanted to practice pronouncing the words properly, so there was no doubt about what she was singing about. regardless of that-- the lyrics to the song itself were lyrics she resonated with
deep in my heart, in that dark place you suddenly entered awakening my world that would have fallen asleep someday
a song about a girls feelings for someone-- for sooyoung, this would be a song about her feelings for him. feelings that still hadn’t gone away even if she had tried her best and she was sure they wouldn’t disappear not until she found someone else-- if she managed to find someone else. at this rate she wouldn’t, thinking about it she didn’t have the energy to be hurt again. it hurt enough to have these one-sided feelings and so she figured with time, especially since she was and would be busy now the feelings would fade eventually... she hoped, or did she?
in the practice room, she hummed the melody, sang the words out loud and controlled her voice, when she sang she couldn’t help but have his face pop up in her head, it was incredibly frustrating but also helpful. she could channel the song and it’s feeling properly, thanks to her current feelings for him.
                                                                    --
an unexpected turn had come her way-- he had told her his feelings, his feelings for her-- in that moment she had felt incredibly confused, happy but so incredibly confused and sad because she was going to debut and he wasn’t debuting. they were on different paths but she couldn’t help it but feel selfish, selfish about her love being returned? it was something that confused her and suddenly the news of her debut brought a sad look on his face. sooyoung had finally gotten him, how? she didn’t know how it had happened but she didn’t raise any questions ( not now ). so in her moment of happiness, she had promised him that she wouldn’t be a burden, and somehow-- one way lead to another and they were now a couple.
when she had moved into the dorms she couldn’t really hide her happiness, thankfully it could be passed as happiness from knowing she would debut and she was happy about that. incredibly happy.
there was so much to be happy about this month, sooyoung wasn’t entirely sure what she would do with this. she hadn’t felt this happy since she was a child-- or at least when she graduated university.

my turn
ft. @danielxrk
throughout her entire starbright casting experience, she made sure to not let daniel know anything about it. from talking to mutual friends to making sure their dad would keep it a secret just between the two of them, mina’s made sure to not let her dear brother know about how she not only auditioned to be part of sphere but also how she’s a trainee with him now.
it’s not because she was ashamed. if anything, far from it. she wanted to be in sphere because of the fact that he was in it (and convex, but that wasn’t the point). she even listed him as her inspiration, considering she was able to watch him grow onscreen and off. the real reason as to why she didn’t tell him about this at all was, in a way, to get back at him. she found it amusing that he didn’t tell her about him going to the mgas the first time and how he didn’t tell her about sphere until he handed her a flyer at home. sure, he told her about nova, but she still wanted to do this just for fun and other sentimental reasons (yadda yadda).
thankfully, it was easy to find him. she didn’t know an exact reason why, but perhaps it was another way of god helping her out. having to put her nonexistent acting skills to the test, she walks up to the other conveniently facing away from her and speaks up. “hey, could you help me find someone?” she asks, failing to hide the smile on her face. “i have something important to tell him. he’s family.”

FREE TIME.
✰ ╎ @danielxrk ;
okay, so saerom is a little ashamed to admit that she’s still not really on first name basis with all of the new sphere additions from last year. but then again, she did spend a good half of last year moping about sphere girls’ impending doom with their lineup disappearing like thanos had gone and snapped. so it was totally within reason for her to not take notice, and besides, saerom was not the most observant person. she was the least observant with boys, beyond oblivious. but she had already met doyoung and chris. but she knew there was one more that she was yet to go and introduce herself to. and she believes his name is ... daniel?
the other meetings had been purely coincidental. having bumped into someone, or chatting while in the cafeteria line. this time though, saerom’s putting her foot down and she’s gonna do the introducing. she hopes she doesn’t come across as too weird, walking up to some random guy at sphere and being all, hey there! i’m saerom! what’s up!? saerom just wants to be the friendly, helpful senior. senior. it felt weird saying that, she wasn’t a senior. saerom had just re-signed her second contract, she was in no way, shape or form senior material. well, maybe to some ...
one afternoon, saerom spots an unsuspecting daniel at sphere. which is great. he seems to be alone and he doesn’t seem to be a very scary looking guy. if anything, he had a kind looking face. that made saerom feel a little better. so saerom, being the stealth ninja that she was, slinks on up beside him, throwing her hands into her pockets, all with a grin on her face. like she had been there the entire time. she looks out of the corner of her eye. “hey there. it’s daniel, right?” she asks, turning her head to face him.

PER_SE (SOLO) SCHEDULE ┊ BIRTHDAY FAN-MEETING
a birthday fan-meeting! it isn’t a large scale, if anything, it’s rather humble with 50 fans, but it’s something, and it’s a lot more than haknyeon’s ever thought he’d have. he’s celebrated his birthdays with family and friends, and to be able to celebrate it with his fans was something that he was looking forward to.
still, he’s a little nervous. he’s used to doing things with the other members, and clinging onto the older members. this is his first solo schedule since the radio appearance, and this time he’s meeting with the fans –– fans that have put in the effort to attend his birthday. as nervous as he is though, he remembers that daniel had told him beforehand that he’d made it in, and that thought alone was enough to have him feeling as though everything would be alright (it’d always be alright if daniel was there).
he looks into the mirror, as he fixes his outfit. his manager then informs him that it’s time, and he smiles, curling his hands into a tiny fist.
it’s not a large crowd, and haknyeon understands that, but it’s enough to have him be thankful, anything is really.
“hello everyone! thank you for coming!” he beams, waving his hands as they cheer him on. “last year... i celebrated my birthday alone, because i was busy with the survival show. and now, i get to spend it with my fans... my best friends. ever since the mgas, every day has felt like a dream!” there are a few familiar fans that he spots, some from his time on the mgas, and some from previous events.
“some of you might have noticed, but there’s someone special here today too! he’s the super famous, kang daniel!” he smiles, as he points out his best friend. “can you believe that i’m friends with someone famous?” he beams. the fan-meeting continues and haknyeon tries his hardest to interact and give the fans a good experience. though daniel isn’t the only one he recognizes.
“ah, and i spot a fanboy there! my knight in shining armour! hi yeonjun! he’s the really handsome guy there!” he waves. “did you know he saved me from slipping and falling at a grocery store?” he laughs, face turning a slight shade of pink. “i guess he must’ve started being a fan from then! wow, i really am lucky!” he gives yeonjun a thumbs up, grinning.
and just like with every other schedule where he finds himself so close to the fans, he doesn’t want it to end. but it has to. and it ends, predictably, with him close to tears as he thanks the fans once more.
“thank you for coming. and for loving me. i will keep this memory with me, forever!” he claps his hands tightly and bows. “i don’t know what i’ve done to deserve this, but i promise to return your love ten -- no -- a millionfold!”
