Danny was one of the first Superstar DJs and remains a true pioneer and visionary of the global dance scene. Through his legendary Acid House club Shoom in the 1980s and his Radio shows with BBC Radio 1 and KISS FM UK.Danny became a catalyst that helped to shape the UK dance scene right from the early days. Danny has sold over a million compilation albums making him a household name and has picked up many awards as well as regularly being on TV documentaries for National Geographic, the BBC and MTV because of his unrivalled for his music knowledge and expertise. Danny's legendary DJ residences at places in Ibiza at Pacha, Amnesia Ibiza, and PRIVILEGE IBIZA has cemented him into the White Isle’s history books and continues to tour the world with his unique blend of classic and new wave House, Acid, and Techno. Ever since getting the accolade of Number 1 DJ in DJ MAG first ever poll Danny continues to be at the forefront of the music scene. Shoom, his Acid House club brand from the ’80s, has been reignited featuring legendary acts like Derrick May and DJ Pierre alongside new up and coming Techno artists like Jay Lumen, Saytek Live, Analog Kitchen and ILONA Shoom is touring worldwide in clubs like Paradiso in Amsterdam, and landmark nights in London have gained much recognition and features from Mix Mag DJ Mag, The Guardian, ID Magazine and GQ Magazine, to coverage on BBC’s Newsnight for the 30th anniversary in 2017. ‘Rave’ will be on our screens soon in form of a TV show that is written by award-winning screenwriter Irvine Welsh, who wrote Trainspotting. IBIZA ’89 “We need small and medium-sized venues for new talent to emerge and hone their performance skills - and to provide opportunities for the creative teams of lighting, staging, sound, design and so on. It’s hard to tell if the government is being intentionally clueless about all this or whether they’ve just got it in for the creative arts.” - Dave Swindells, Photographer. If you’re unfamiliar with Dave Swindells’ work his photographs of nights out belong to a similar pantheon as those of Derek Ridgers. He got his start a little later than Ridgers - in 1985 for ‘i-D’ shooting portraits of clubbers in all their going-out finery. A year later he became nightlife editor of ‘Time Out’,where he remained until 2009, diligently and devotedly shooting London’s club scene as much as he could. But some of his best, most beloved images weren’t in London. They were taken in Ibiza shot on assignment for ‘Time Out’s’ ’20/20’ magazine, with an accompanying article by Alix Sharkey (then-co-editor of ‘i-D’). Not only does Sharkey’s essay provide context, it ensures the book isn’t just “sugar-coated in nostalgia” and that an authentic picture of the place is captured. IBIZA ’89 “I was surprised to find some great shots that I’d previously overlooked that I could include in ‘Ibiza ’89' along with more club shots and previously unpublished photos taken on the beaches and around the island that show a little of the life beyond the dance-floors,” - Dave Swindells, Photographer. In June 1989, Dave Swindells headed out to Ibiza for the first time on assignment for ‘Time Out’s’ now defunct ’20/20’ magazine. Swindells had spent his life in clubs, and kept hearing that the Balearic island was the place to be. Out of the shots Swindells took during a week on the island, only a small selection were used in the final piece. So to give the eight rolls of film the photographer took their proper airing ‘IDEA Books’ has just published ‘IBIZA ’89' which provides readers with 144 pages of pastel-coloured, high-contrast nightlife.
