word count: 3.0k
a/n: lol i complain about wanting to write fluff but all my good ideas r so dark 😭 someone needs to give me tips on how to write girls cuz i have no experience would be easier if i was gay boooo!!
he was like a shadow, stuck to your back, always.
you’d complained to lucy numerous times that you didn’t feel comfortable around him when she played at the hob, knowing he’d be there, in the crowd. “sweetie, he was my mentor. he helped me so much in the games, i wouldn’t be here without him. you love me don’t you? so you need to learn to love him too, he’s a good friend a mine. i love you and i gotta get to the stage baby.” she explained as she ran around getting herself and the covey ready.
you were always front row. wanting to be as close to lucy as possible. she looked especially majestic tonight with flowers in her hair. as you listened to her sing you’d managed to forget about the certain blonde peacekeeper near the back. but he hadn’t forgotten about you, nor lucy.
you’d left to get a drink and you’d came back to an unfamiliar tune. you usually knew every song being played off by heart but this was new.
Everyone's born as clean as a whistle
As fresh as a daisy
And not a bit crazy
Staying that way's a hard row for hoeing
she sounded as angelic as usual and the crowd around you seemed entranced.
As rough as a briar
Like walking through fire
This world, it's dark
This world, it's scary
lucy smiled at you once, just once. which threw you off since you usually got a bunch. especially during new songs and songs about you. was this not also about you?
I've taken some hits, so
No wonder I'm wary It's why
I need you
so it is about me! you thought as you closed your eyes, allowing yourself to sway to the music and singing. you’d hoped you wouldn’t miss a smile headed your way.
You're as pure as the driven snow
your eyes flew open as you stared at lucy, she was looking past you and to the peacekeeper. to coriolanus snow. you’d always been a rational person, you prided yourself on restraint but that restraint was hanging on by a thread. you wanted to jam a beer bottle into his neck. lucy was your girlfriend not his. and yet he smiled stupidly towards her as she sang and you could feel your heart clawing its way up. best to leave now rather than stay and hear more of the ever so driven man.
your head was spinning as you slumped to the floor, in one of your finest dresses yet worst mental states. of course, something had formed between the two. she was in the goddamn hunger games and he was her mentor. trauma bonding? he quite literally saved her life, coached her and you did what? sat at home and hoped.
hope could only get you so far.
your hope and faith in lucy gray baird was dwindling as her lyrics swirled in your head. of course she loved him. who wouldn’t? the man was undeniably eye catching. a capitol man. but you’d always imagined lucy staying away from the capitol, despising them. but maybe it wasn’t the captiol part but the man part. maybe she wanted a true life, a home, marriage and children and everything she could wish for.
what on earth could you provide her with?
“y/n?” it sure as hell wasn’t lucy calling out for you and you knew that. coriolanus’s reflection was prominent in the puddle before you as he neared. great, you sneered, would love to get to know you mr peacekeeper. please tell me how you stole my lovely girlfriend from me!
your chest felt oh so heavy as you heard his footsteps in the gravel, determined and unwavering as he made his way to your slumped body. “what do you want? you wanna gloat?” coriolanus stopped in his tracks, gloat? “why would i gloat?” you looked up at him annoyed, “rub it in my face. you practically stole my girlfriend from me.” coriolanus laughed. actually laughed and it made you want to strangle him with his stupid dog tags.
“sweetheart.” vomit. you wanted to vomit. maybe choking and dying on your vomit would be less embarrassing then this. why on earth was this fuck head calling you his sweetheart. “fuck off.”
you didn’t see him coming. and you certainly didn’t expect his demeanour to snap. but the large hand tangled in your open hair was a big slap in the face to your unreadiness. “you of all people don’t get to talk to me like that. do you know who you’re talking to?” you could hear his perfect porcelain teeth grinding at your words. god this man couldn’t handle an insult. wuss.
“what the hell is your- ow! problem!” you yelped as he dragged you into an alleyway. “you need to learn how to respect your superiors. if you’re nice to me, i can make your life easier. doesn’t it hurt? not being able to fully provide for your family? seeing them struggle? do you really think disrespecting a peacekeeper is going to help? i suggest you straighten your act and thank me for even looking your way. there are plenty of other girls here.”
but he didn’t want those other girls. he wanted you. you with the teary eyes and messy hair. you who he’d been seeing in his dreams and during the day. you with the kind smile and curious eyes. you who were so sweet and pretty but mean when need be. the y/n who was stupid enough to spit such hateful words at a peacekeeper. but he’d teach you. whether it be with words and lessons or actions and bruises. you’d learn your place, by his side and lucy’s, and underneath. but with such fearful, brown doe eyes watering up infront of him, the girl he’d heard oh so much about from lucy. how could he refrain from indulging?
his hand reached out to wipe away the few stray tears that fell as his left extended towards your right, which was clutching your head, where he’d grabbed you. “shh, let me help you.” your hand slowly retracted as your heart ran a marathon. the man was obviously unstable, going from a deceptively caring man to violent. coriolanus smiled at your actions, and it freaked you out. he caressed your scalp in an attempt to soothe, “good girl.” he cooed as your apparent saviour approached.
“sweetie?” lucy called out to you as coriolanus withdrew from your personal space. he walked over to her and she let him. he held her hand and spoke with, love? his voice was soft and comforting, his thumb again caressing the back of her hand as they talked, whispered, plotted? god knows, all you wanted was to leave.
was this your chance?
you tested the waters, slow and calculated movements as lucy nodded in agreement with him. but by the time they were done speaking you’d bolted.
but you sure as hell weren’t getting far with these two on your tail, poor y/n l/n. a little dove trying to spread her wings but they were bound to be clipped.
your feet were throbbing and begging for you to slow down. but your brain was in charge for once, your heart which yearned for your dear songbird pushed to the side as your head screamed and urged you to go. she was in league with him apparently. her seeing him corner you and not even batting an eyelash. did she truly care for you so little? did she want to rid herself of you? she could’ve broken up with you and let that be it. maybe the games had twisted her head.
even as you believed yourself to be gaining distance from the two you could hear the not-so distant steps of determined pursuit, headed your way. how would they kill you? slow and intimate? hasty and brutal?
“if you stop running now we won’t be mad little dove!” lucy shouted in warning as you felt yourself momentarily slow at her words. traitor. you thought to yourself as your body involuntary listened, she still had an affect on you. “she’s right, we love you, we won’t hurt you. unless we have to, don’t give us our reasons.”
“shut up!” you screamed. god, i know we haven’t talked in a while. last minute efforts right? maybe he’d listen to you, save you from your tormentors. you should’ve kept your head clear, focused on running. focused on your surroundings and if you had, you would’ve noticed the nearing tree roots, thick and protruding from the ground, ready to knock you down.
you crawled behind the tree, trying to catch your breath as your hands worked tirelessly to provide some form of relief to your aching ankle.
crack.
you’d been found. you fucked up.
“our little dove, ever the sprinter.”
his words had you lurching forwards in an attempt of fleeing but lucy’s cold hand on your ankle dragged protests and cries from your throat as well as you, back to them. “you should’ve listened before, we would’ve been nice. given you some time to adjust, but you can’t sit and think for a second can you?” coriolanus mocked as his hand trailed up your un-injured leg, “that’s okay, you won’t be doing much thinking from now on. we’ll be taking care of you, since you obviously can’t take care a’ yourself baby.” lucy’s voice was saccharine, like honey, and her smile was even sweeter. the familiarity and comfort of her presence was intoxicating, you felt at peace on one side and the other wanted to jump off a cliff. she lowered your guard and coriolanus slithered right in.
the prick in the side of your neck wasn’t painful, but their words were. “you’re with us now, we’ll take care of you, we promise.” and you were stuck, stuck with them for god knows how long.
you blinked away the sleep in your eyes, adjusting to the room. maybe they had killed you? in their own twisted way they’d keep you forever, in their memories and soul. coriolanus and lucy’s voices swam around your head and blended together. you were wrong. yay.
“it’s a bit early for katniss, even if it’s one of her favourites.”
“she should eat something better.”
“better? don’t go all capitol on me now corio.”
he was smiling, you could tell.
“never lucy gray. but she’ll be weak for a few days, proper meals will help her regain some strength.”
you picked your head up and looked through the window, the lake was evident.
“alright, you go grab it and i’ll stay here.”
“why? so you can get more time with her? if anyone should get extra time it’s me.”
“now who was her partner first? oh that’s right, me. you’re acting as if i’m gonna pick her up and run away. if you’re that scared than we’ll both go. take her with us.”
coriolanus’s head whipped towards the cabin and you quickly flopped back down on the bed. you shut your eyes as you heard the door creak open. “gosh, doesn’t she look pretty?” lucy asked, knowing the answer already. “so calm, i liked her better when she was crying.” lucy hit him, “coriolanus snow!” he stroked the side of your face and you had to resist from turning your head and biting his fingers off.
“little dove.” your eyes opened again, turning your head his way tiredly. “we need to get some supplies okay?” you nodded as lucy went outside to gather the baskets she’d left out earlier on to dry. coriolanus’s hand dug into your cheeks as he forced you to look at him, “i told you i’d make you respect me. now listen, if you try anything when we’re in town i will never let you forget it. you’ll know who you belong to every single day. maybe i’ll pay your family a visit? an appointment with the hanging tree for being rebels? stealing?”
you shook your head violently as you began to cry, “you don’t want that? didn’t think so. you listen to me and everything will be fine. your family will get daily help and weekly groceries. they’ll never go hungry again. all thanks to their sweet little girl. lucy’s too nice, but don’t think for a second she’ll save you from me. you’re mine and if you try anything.” he leaned in to whisper, “i’ll strangle her with my bare hands infront of you.” his words were meant to scare you, and they did. but don’t you know? coriolanus snow doesn’t need a reason to do bad things.
coriolanus was wicked and ruthless when it came to what he wanted, if you had any hope of trying to get through this then you’d need lucy’s attention and help. so you nodded. “words sweetheart.” you swallowed your pride, your dignity, and you shook hands with the devil.
“yes, i’ll do what you say.” he straightened up, his white shirt a contrast to his dark thoughts.
“y’all ready to go?” lucy questioned as coriolanus grinned, “yes, yes we are.” he lifted you up and helped you dress, you hadn’t realised the fact that you were only dressed in his own white shirt, dress to you. he handled you like you were the most delicate object. as if he wasn’t hell bent on breaking you, over and over again. till you were fit to his standards. the captiol standards. the snow standards.
his, his, his.
with how obedient you were, he figured you’d do well in the capitol. which was exactly where he was meaning to bring you.
lucy walked in front of the two of you as you made your way through the woods. coriolanus’s hand was glued to your waist as he held you close, afraid to let go. you were at flight risk of course. his grip was tight and bruising. lucy’s humming distracted you at times, if you were delusional enough you could imagine it to be the two of you. your brothers far infront and the covey following. after an amazing afternoon at the lake, heading home for dinner, maybe a performance or the night shift.
your daydreaming was interrupted when you clocked coriolanus’s missing hand from your waist, and his arm now around lucy grays throat.
don’t you remember? you’d do well in the capitol! you were his! but not entirely, no.
not with her in the way.
you were frozen in place as lucy clawed at him before reaching out for you. a plea, a cry for help and aid yet you stood stuck in fear. a minute, two. she’d put up a strong fight, especially when you ran towards the two, pushing and shoving at coriolanus to let her go. but again, you fucked up.
here lies lucy gray baird, singer, victor, psycho.
obsessed? madly in love? you couldn’t think of another word, and as much as you wished to forget her, forget how she’d practically allowed another man into your relationship and let him kidnap you. her lifeless face and hollow eyes made your heart clench. but soon enough she was rolled over, thrown in a pre-made hole and buried. she’d survived the games but no one survived coriolanus snow.
“don’t forget what i said. don’t forget what you agreed to. you said you’d do as i say, i’m telling you to get up and follow me. we’re leaving district 12.” your face was painted with confusion as coriolanus clutched your face, “i’m going back, and you’re coming with me. don’t ask questions, just do as i say.”
and you did.
when he had you say goodbye to your family, a courtesy, a privilege he’d granted you. you kept it short and sweet, no questions just hugs and false promises of return.
when he ushered you onto the train and he wanted you to sit and be silent, you did.
through his time at the university, he wanted you close to him, living with him. and you did.
through his presidency campaign he wanted for you to charm sponsors and entice newcomers. you did.
when he wanted to marry you in a grand spectacle infront of the captiol and dress you up, you did as he asked.
when he held you down on your wedding night after tearing your dress off, biting and marking you down all over, pushing you down to your knees and took you all over the house, asking you to give yourself to him as if he didn’t take you anyways, you did.
you had no idea why at this point.
for your family? who hadn’t reached out in so long, even when they promised to talk to you every day? coriolanus had them all arrested, punished and hung for inciting riots and uprisings.
for your friends whom listened to your concerns of the capitol peacekeeper who hovered and didn’t make you feel crazy? each of them ended up dead in many different ways, hung, shot, a mugging gone wrong.
you didn’t know at this point and when you looked in the mirror you didn’t recognise the girl who stared back. a captiol sheep, dressed up in the finest silk dresses and slick heels yet the filth underneath the finery, jewels, and makeup weighed you down. each time he touched you, kissed you, fucked you, it felt like a peace of yourself was thrown away.
and as you clutched your swelling stomach, you couldn’t help but feel pity for baby number four.
maybe you’d grow up and find love.
maybe i’ll be able to take you all away from him.
maybe we’ll heal.
you thought, but in the back of your head, a little voice wouldn’t shut up.
you’ll always be his little dove.

Coriolanus Snow Masterlist
Tumblr media
You had to see for yourself Coriolanus Snow in peacekeeper uniform. When news travelled around that Coryo was to be sentenced to years as peacekeeper in the districts, you nearly laughed at the idea of him being here.
Your father, Commander Hoff, leader of the peacekeepers here in district 12, even found it amusing himself. So here you were, leaned against a beam as you peer down at the new peacekeepers in training. What the hell was Coriolanus doing here in district 12 when you knew damn well from your father that he was supposed to be in district 8.
Of course, your eyes looked around for the one and only, Coriolanus Snow. You went to school with him but you highly doubted he knew you since you were a couple years below him. You often moved from the Capitol with your mother to district 12, with your father, so most of the times you weren’t even at school.
“You will rise together and you will fall together,” Your father’s loud voice echoes in the room. “You will be our eyes and ears out here on my base, and it will be your duty, to report anything suspicious you see because if you do not,” Coryo gives you a curious look as a light smirk adorns your lips.
He was probably wondering what the hell you were doing up there on the platform with the commander, and who you were. “You are as good as a rebel, yourself.” Your father concludes as you straighten up and push yourself off the beam.
Your father watches you with a warning look as you ignore him; walking down the steps, your footsteps echoing as you knew the peacekeepers were fighting hard not to look away from the commander. You honestly preferred being in the districts with your father than in prison that people call the Capitol.
You slowly study each peacekeeper before you stand infront of Sejanus Plinth. “A plinth back in the districts?” You say with a hint of amusement as you study him. His hair shaved, his expression cold. “Y/n.” Your father warns.
Coriolanus was the first to break his gaze from your father as he looks at you. Y/n. “I think there’s somewhere you must be?” Commander Hoff spoke with such sternness it made you gulp. “Yes, Commander,” You lightly sigh, addressing him professionaly, before giving Sejanus and the man beside him, Coryo, one final glance.
~
Coriolanus couldn't help thinking about you, for a few reasons. You intrigued him, not only because he thought there were no females at all in the base, but also because he found you attractive. Very attractive. He had a feeling he has seen you before, maybe around the academy, but he wasn't sure on it.
He wondered what the hell you were doing here at base. Maybe you were here as punishment as well, but that didn't explain why you were up on the platform beside Commander Hoff.
~
"Let's go!" Coriolanus shifts his attention outside as he hears a whistle being blown. Sejanus and Coryo walk side by side onto the open field where Commander Hoff and you stood at the front.
The two of you make eye contact before he quickly looks away and stands in the front row, beside Sejanus. "Today you will be participating in physical exercises..." Commander Hoffs words became muffled to Coriolanus as he only pays attention to you.
You were stood beside your father, a clipboard in one hand as you tap the tip of your pen against your bottom lip. That made it clear that you were probably not here as punishment. Your uniform was the same except slightly altered. "Go!" A whistle blows as Coriolanus stands there confused because he wasn't paying attention.
"Do you think your special, boy? Get on the ground and do pushups, now!" Commander Hoff barks as he looks around before quickly following along side the others. You watch in amusement, your father shakes his head at you as you try and stifle a giggle.
You write down notes on your clipboard as you listen to your father instruct the peacekeepers. You were training to be the first female commander in history. Focused on Coriolanus practically the entire time, you sauntered past your father to where he was, on the ground doing pushups.
It was a particulars hot day so they all were wearing white singlets with their blue pants. You were secretly salivating the entire time you watched Snow perform the exercises, his muscles bulging, his skin slightly covered in a layer of sweat.
He looked fucking hot. The few times you saw him around the academy, he looked handsome, ethereal, with his blonde locks, but now with his buzzcut, he looked like a complete different person, he was a walking sex appeal. You lightly bite your fingernails as you watch the way his dog tag would dangle from his neck when he was doing pushups.
Your father raises an eyebrow as he watches you sit on Coriolanus' back whilst he was doing a pushup. Coriolanus grunts at the sudden weight on his back. You smile in satisfaction as you hear him grunting. Music to your ears.
You sitting on his back only made Coriolanus push harder as you let out a small yelp, placing a hand on his shoulder to stabilise yourself. Your jaw dropped at his speed, it was as if you weighed nothing. His stamina was insane as he kept the same rapid pace.
"What do you think you are dong Miss Y/n?" Your father raises an eyebrow at you, "Extra punishment, Commander Hoff," You beam at your father, patting Coriolanus' firm back as he Snow lets out a groan. Hoff hums before walking away, his hands behind his back.
When you hear the final whistle blow, you get off his back. Coriolanus stayed laying on the grass, his chest going up and down rapidly as sweat ran down the side of his face. You pulled out a handkerchief from your pocket with your initials embroidered in fancy writing and hold it infront of him.
He quirks an eyebrow at you, your roll your eyes before taking his hand and placing the lacey handkerchief in his hand. "Thanks," He says in a hoarse voice. You don't break eye contact with him as he wipes his face free from sweat.
Coryo hands your handkerchief back to you but you shake your head, "Keep it," Is all you say before turning around and leaving him there dumfounded. The thought of why he was here in district 12, and not 8–where he was supposed to be–still lingered in the back of your head.
~
For the next couple of days there was an unspoken tension between the two of you. Sexual tension to be specific. You were still itching to know what his business here in district 12 was. You were attracted to him for sure, how could you not when he looked like that. But your curiosity overpowered your desire for him.
You were walking along a quiet corridor before you felt a hand reach out and grab you, pulling you into a room. You let out a muffled scream, a hand firmly on your mouth as you felt someone's breathe fanning your neck.
Your eyes were wide in shock before the person spins you around and he reveals himself. He was dressed in his full attire, hat and everything included. You let out a sigh of relief, all while he watches you. "What the fuck are you thinking?" You whisper yell at him, as you quickly lock the door behind you.
"I wanted to introduce myself-" You scoffed loudly, turning your head to the side. "You think I don’t know you, Coriolanus Snow?" You raise an eyebrow at him as his tongue wets his bottom lip. Truth be told, Snow actually never mentioned his name to you. He just assumed you didn't know who he was. "I just wanted to properly introduce myself to you, Y/n.”
"Well, that is not a very good reason to pull someone into a room without warning," You shrug your shoulders at him as he stays quiet, studying you as you study him back. Tilting your head slightly, you open your mouth, "You have another motive, Coriolanus,"
He swallows, "I want to see you again-" "why-" "privately." Oh? All the times you and Coriolanus would see each other was always out in the open with prying eyes everywhere, particularly from your father. You'd be lying if you said you weren't purposely whoring yourself for him just to get information out of him. From your lack of response, Coryo speaks again.
"What are you doing here on base? You don't seem to be here for punishment-" You let out a low chuckle, stepping a few steps forward towards him. "I could ask the same for you, Have you really no clue?" Coriolanus purses his lips, looking away before meeting looking over your face.
"Your initials on your handkerchief..." He starts, ignoring part of your question as you lips start to quirk up, "Are you Commander Hoff's daughter?" "Maybe I am. Does that bother you?" You step even closer to him as you notice his breathe starting to hitch.
"No," He breathes out.. "But what would your father think if he found out that you and I are here alone, when we shouldn't be," A smirk forms on his lips as your eyes flicker from his eyes to his lips.
"Truthfully, I couldn't care less," You whisper before pressing your lips against his. Coriolanus froze when your lips touched his, you honestly thought he might just shove you away. You were pleasantly surprised when you felt his hand coming up to grip the base of your neck, deepening the kiss. It was as if he was a starved man, feasting on his food. Like you were oxygen that he desperately needed.
He wrapped his arms around you and kissed with such savageness. The heat was like wildfire. The tension, the waiting. Days of expecting him to make a move on you. After the wandering eyes and the way he would make up any excuse to touch you or say something to you.
You slid your fingers across his broad, firm shoulders. One of his large hands gripped your loose locks, tugging at it, while his other hand reached down and tugged at your shirt. You pull back for a second as you take off your shirt, your bra covered chest on display as he wastes no time in unclipping it.
Coriolanus palmed your breasts hard enough to make you hiss against his mouth. You kissed him deeply, your fingers slid behind his neck and along the tendons of his neck. Coryo reaches up to take his hat off before you stop him, "Keep it on," You breathlessly say as Snow smirks before continuing his assault on your lips.
You tore your clothes off in front of him as he gapes. A surge of confidence ran through you as you grab his hand and push him against you. His rough hands dragging up your body, feeling every curve and dip he found to be perfect.
Snow kissed across your breasts and once again tangled his fingers in your hair, pulling at it until you whimpered and tilted your head back. His mouth was at the base of your neck and he kissed and nipped along your collarbone until he reached a point where you moaned gutturally and arched against his still fully clothed body.
Coriolanus pushed you back, your ass bumping into the only piece of furniture that was in the room which happened to be a desk. He pushed your legs apart and sank into you with a single, hard thrust. The he paused and pressed a kiss against your lips before he started to move.
You bit back a cry of pain and forced yourself not to stiffen or pull away. Your whole façade crumbling as he thrusts into you. It hurt. You knew it might, if not done slowly at least. But the pain still caught you off guard. The abruptness of it. He most likely assumed there had been others before him by the way you sauntered around the base and interacted with the other young peacekeepers.
You were glad it hurt. You were whoring yourself for him. You had seduced him the moment he made it abundantly clear that he wasn't keen on sharing his story of why he was here. You had manipulated him because you wanted something from him. You were greedy.
You weren't just going to settle on the undivided attention he'd give you. No. You wanted him, body and soul. Coriolanus was so much bigger that his frame practically enveloped you. His hands were tangled in your hair so tightly you could barely twitch your head as he met your eyes and moved inside of you at an almost inhumane speed.
His jaw was tense. His expression partially shielded from his hat. But the grip he had on you, and the speed he was going at, you could tell you were his. And similarly, he was yours. You forced yourself not to show any signs of discomfort as your threw your head back, eyes screw shut, when his fingers started playing with your stiff, perked nipples.
You moved your hips to meet his movement and clenched around him, your fingernails dragging across his clothed back. You lock your feet below his hips to drive him further in driving him crazy as a string of curses fall from his lips.
Coriolanus hisses, dropping his head against your shoulder as he thrusts deep inside of you. The angle of his movement, the intensity between them wasn't just his–you whimpered and gasped near his ear.
His pace faltered slightly, and he lifted his head. His hands moved away from your tits, caught hold of your hands and intertwined your fingers together. He kissed you. Deep, passionate kisses that made your chest hurt as you returned them.
He shifted his pace. Slower. The angle was different, the way your naked pelvis met his as he pushed into you, and you realised with alarm that it was tearing your sense of control away from you. And you desperately wanted that control back or otherwise you’d be vulnerable.
Coriolanus was kissing you. Hot. Bruising. Almost punishing kisses, as he gripped your hands and kept driving into you relentlessly. The pain had dulled to a fainter throb. Several more hard, deep strokes, then Coryo's hips jerked, and he gave a deep moan and dropped his head down in the crook of your neck.
His breath dragged across your skin as he panted near your ear and kissed your shoulder. You were still against him. You were suddenly aware of the rough table biting into your skin. And that the room was hot. Coriolanus stayed pressed against you and still inside of you for several seconds and then he abruptly tensed and pulled away.
He expression was drawn, and he didn't even look at you as he zipped up his pants. You slowly sat up, watching him carefully. He was progressively getting paler and paler as his hands lock behind his neck. His expression was both disbelieving and horrified.
"Fuck-" He said under his breath, he seemed devastated. And part of him was. He just fucked you. The daughter of his commander. He may have just screwed up his opportunity to see the one person he had risked everything for. If Commander Hoff found out that Coriolanus fucked his daughter, he could be transferred to another district, away from her. Or even worst, he was going to be executed.
His desire for you got the better of him and his initial plan. But he just couldn't resist you. Coriolanus clapped his hand over his mouth and looked over, meeting your eyes. Whatever he was battling inside his head seemed to be giving him a panic attack.
He swallowed visibly, closed his eyes and adjusted his hat. Then he opened his eyes, he seemed to have composed himself. He drew a deep breath and turned to you. His expression tense.
As he looked at you, his eyes dropped to your legs and he blanched white. You couldn't believe someone could even possibly blanch that white. "You were a virgin?" His voice was rasping. Coriolanus felt his hole that was dug out for him was getting deeper and deeper.
"Yeah," You say seeming unbothered. Snow looked like he was about to be sick. His jaw was clenched as he kept staring at you. "I–would have been gentler–if I had known," He finally said.
You slowly got off the desk, the middle of your legs aching as you put your clothes back on as Coryo watches. "I didn't really want you to be," He pressed his lips together.
"Fuck I'm not going to be able to see her," He muttered as his hands once again lock around his neck as your heart dropped upon hearing what he said. You smile bitterly to yourself. You got what you wanted. You found out what he was doing here. You'd grieve over the cost later.
Maybe he couldn't change course now. It was set. Obsessive. Possessive. You had him; possibly forever, if you didn't decide to use your cunningness. You had him. For whatever reason, you had him. Now you had to find a way to take advantage of it.
A slip of words to your father and he could be transferred to another district, away from her, or even hanged for taking your -virginity. You knew you had him wrapped around your finger now. And by the way Coriolanus stared at you and swallowed hard, horror in his eyes, he knew it too.

Summary: Coriolanus Snow x reader- Marriage AU. Snow is a neglectful husband who only loves his ambitions as usual. Gets a bit spicy near the end. My first fic on the young President Snow, my latest obsession. Don’t judge me, but I think my type is complex and attractive fictional characters with red flags. Enjoy!***
You are in an arranged marriage with Coriolanus Snow. A handsome and ambitious young man whom your father married you off to for the sake of the family's reputation. Although Snow tolerates you, there was no love in the marriage and more often than not, you would receive cold demeanors from him. However, you were still trying your best to find love in this arranged marriage of yours with a husband who seems adamant on having no love in the marriage.
This was obviously a marriage of convenience. There was no love at all. Both of you behaved like a happy couple in public, but as soon as the cameras was off and you were within the four walls of your home, the facade would be broken. Both of you behaved like strangers despite living in the same house. Both had separate bedrooms, both barely exchanged a word with one another, both hardly shared meals with one another except for dinner. Unless Coriolanus needed your support for public events for his upcoming presidency elections, you were of no use to him. He ignored your presence at home like you weren't there at all which was easy to do considering he wasn't home most of the time.
You knew quite well before your alliance that he was only marrying you for the sake of the reputation of his family. Snow was aiming to be the President of Panem and he wanted to have an image of a happy married man with a beautiful wife at his side to win the citizens over. However, he made his own grave mistake in getting too wrapped up in his duties and left you neglected. You weren't that bitter about it as you already knew from the start what you were getting yourself into and was even fine with the lack of attention given to you for the most part.
It has been six months now since the two of you have been married, and in those six months, both of you knew your limits, especially for you. Coriolanus was a handsome and intelligent man who makes an excellent politician. He is an ambitious man which is something that you admire, but you wished that he was able to see you. To recognize you as a fellow human being, but at the same time, you pitied him because he was stuck with you as you were with him and has no one else by his side. Overall, even though he was on top of the world, he was just a lonely man.
Even after these six months, Snow barely acknowledged you and only spoke to you when he needed something or when he needed a proper lady on his side for public image. He had to maintain this image of being a perfect man and an equally perfect husband to boost his chances of becoming President. You would always be left in the back burner every time he comes home and would make sure you understood that you were just a means to an end. You would never get in his way of his goals.
You were making dinner for yourself because you liked a bit of normalcy even though you had servants available at your every call. You cooked some pasta and some garlic bread as well. You were craving something heavier due to that time of the month. You knew Snow wouldn't really like something heavy, considering he was always trying to stay in shape to keep an image in front of others. So, you made some fresh salad for him with grilled fish to suit his needs. You told the servants to lay out the table before sitting at the table, waiting for your husband.
Just as you have finished preparing dinner, you hear that Snow had finally come home for the night. You knew from the start that he was still in his work suit, with a bit of sweat mixed in with him as it was a hot day for both in the Capitol and in other districts. His perfect blonde curls were a bit messier from the climate change, but he still looked beautiful nonetheless. Snow made his way to the dinner table and didn't make a sound as he sat down in silence. He would usually be the one to wait but you did it for him today to show how appreciative and patient you can be if he wanted you to.
You both began eating in silence, but for some reason, you decided to break the silence. "How was your day, Coriolanus?" You asked, almost cringing at the question that you had asked.
Snow stops eating to give you an emotionless and cold glare before going back to eating. You weren't exactly surprised since that was his usual demeanor and you had gotten used to being ignored.
"It was fine. No need to concern yourself with my affairs or anything that I do." He said without facing you, his lack of interest in giving himself to you has always been a recurring theme between the two of you. You were used to his indifference, but for some reason disappointment still settles in within your heart. It made you wonder how you managed six months of this. Six months of embarrassment, neglect, and a complete disregard of your existence.
Usually, you would have ignored his indifference, but tonight something in you snapped. You don't know what it was, whether it was your hormones or if finally, all of the frustration that had been silently building up in you in all of those months had reached its limits. "If you can walk around me in public claiming me as your wife, you can do the same at home as well. You are my husband; your affairs are my problem! As your wife, at minimum, I deserve some respect." You taunted him.
Snow paused for a long moment before looking you straight in the eyes, his eyes were more piercing than ever before. He was usually cold and calm but for once, you've managed to anger him to the point of showing what he's truly feeling. In any other circumstance, you would take a step back, but this was different as he actually started speaking.
"You are a means to an end. You are a trophy for me to parade around until I become President. Nothing more, nothing less. Do not think that you matter to me in anyway because you do not."
Tears welled up in your eyes as the harsh words hit you in the face, but you refused to let them fall even though your lips betrayed you by trembling, and the lump that had formed at the back of your throat. Instead, you nod in agreement. "I guess I misspoke. Thank you for showing me my place." You said, looking straight into his cold eyes as you tried your absolute best to speak with a steady voice. Feeling humiliated, you abruptly stood up from the dinner table and walked away, leaving your half-eaten dinner and Coriolanus behind.
Snow just watched as you walked away, he didn't have much more to say as all of that was said. He let out a small sigh before deciding to leave the dinner table himself and left the food for the servants to clean and he went up to his room, his home might have been filled with people, but you could still feel the emptiness in it. Snow knew this too well himself although he wasn't going to tell a single soul about it.
You didn't meet with Coriolanus at all for the next few days. Whenever he was in the house, you tried your best to not come out of your room. You didn't even bother eating meals with him anymore either, you would just ask the servant to bring the food into the room after he had eaten. You no longer wanted to see him. Enough was enough. You wanted out of this marriage which was more like a cage.
You could feel the tension and frustration within the house as neither of you were trying to talk to each other with both of you doing your own thing, Snow trying hard to focus on his career and you distancing yourself away from him. You were trying hard to think of a way to get out of this marriage but with Snow as the most popular candidate for the position of President, the divorce papers were unlikely to make it through if it were to be announced. Both of you were stuck in this cold and distant relationship.
But despite all of this, you still managed to contact your personal lawyer to make the papers ready. As soon as Snow got his presidency, you were going to leave him and live your life the way you wanted to. As soon as the papers are made and his victory at the election is announced, you would then hand him the divorce papers first so he could sign it and be free from this hellhole of a marriage. He probably won't hesitate as marriage wasn't in his plans to begin with and he only agreed for the sake of the family. He would have no qualms in signing the papers now, the only difference is you could tell that he looked quite lonely in an empty house. He would probably find another woman to marry anyways to replace you. After all, you were just a trophy wife, it shouldn’t be too hard to find a replacement, you thought bitterly.
Interrupting your thoughts, you got the news from a servant that "Mr.Snow" wanted you to get ready for the pre-election party happening at your house tonight, and a dress was waiting for you on your bed of his choice to get ready. Scoffing at the situation you were in, you decide to get ready, but you weren't going to wear a dress of his choice.
Instead of wearing the dress he provided, you wore a dress of your own choice along with your own make up and styling. You would make sure to carry yourself with ease at the party despite how you had a bitter relationship with your soon to be ex-husband. You didn't want to let them all know about how bad the actual relationship was as it would stain Snow's reputation. After all, no one would want to vote for a man that couldn't even keep marriage vows intact.
Instead of the long red gown that was left untouched on your bed, you opted for a backless black dress with a slight low neck. It was a slightly bold dressing for the occasion, but you still thought it was classy, nonetheless. You opted for a light make up and had your hair straightened and let down flowing freely down your shoulders. Coriolanus always ordered you to wear your hair up for these events. But you often wondered if he told you to do that because it reminded him of Lucy Gray. Nonetheless, today you were feeling a bit rebellious, and you left your hair down and wore a dress of your choice because you wanted to.
You walked down the stairs slowly, watching your house filled with affluent people from the capitol. Your eyes met Coriolanus’, but you quickly looked away as you descended the step. Snow was quite surprised to see you walk down the stairs with hair flowing freely while also showcasing more skin than normal. It was probably the first time he's ever seen you wear a dress of this style, and he felt his chest tightening at that. His usual cold eyes started to glaze with something else but he refused to let himself be seen in a vulnerable position. Instead, he made sure to keep himself busy in greeting all the guests and making sure you weren't a problem as the future President's wife.
You greeted the guests the way you were accustomed to doing. You put on your best fake smile, drank your wine, and laughed at people's non-funny jokes while not meeting Coriolanus eyes at all as you interacted with the guests. The time eventually passed by as the party continued to go on and you could feel Snow's eyes on you every time, he got a chance to get a glimpse of you. It was hard to tell but it appears there was some semblance of jealousy in his eyes now. You were enjoying the party as much as you could even if he wasn't exactly a pleasant husband but for this moment, you were content.
A previous classmate of yours from the academy whose name you couldn't remember, was it Felix? You think to yourself as he came up to you and asked for a dance. You politely declined out of respect for Coriolanus and his reputation, but he was persistent and grabbed your hand, forcefully bringing you to the dance floor.
Snow was watching the whole thing unfold while trying to keep his eyes off you as you were dragged away by a former classmate. His usual jealousy flared up as you danced closely with the man, enjoying yourself and having a good time. Snow wasn't going to let this continue and got up from his seat to head to the dance floor.
You smiled sheepishly as you still attempted to get out of that man's grasp as politely as you could without causing a scene. As you try to get yourself out of Felix's grasp, Snow appears by your side and cuts the two of you off. Looking at Felix with a look of pure contempt as he gently pulls you away from him. He looks at you with narrowed eyes and speaks harshly to the man.
"You've danced enough with my, wife. I do hope you understand that this is not an open invitation for you to lay your hands on her. Is that understood?"
You looked surprised as Snow pulled you close by side, keeping his arm firmly around your waist. You felt shivers down your spine as you felt his hand touch the bare skin of your back which was exposed by the dress. But quickly composed yourself trying to act normal as Felix apologized then excused himself, leaving you alone with Snow.
As Snow pulls you closer to him with his arm around you, you were surprised by the gesture and felt a bit of butterflies in your stomach. Snow was always cold towards you and would show the bare minimum of attention while ignoring you most of the time. You knew he was jealous by the way he kept you close to him, even though he was trying so hard to not let his emotions show through his eyes.
"Coriolanus? Um, I think you can let go of me now." You whisper to him.
Snow doesn't let go despite you wanting him to. Maybe it was the jealousy that was still eating him up inside but Snow still kept his grip on you and kept you close.
"Was he annoying you?" Snow asked you, the jealousy in his tone was evident.
"Yes. He was. But thank you. For coming to my rescue." You say, looking him in the eyes.
Snow lets out a small hum in acceptance of your compliment as his eyes seem to be glued to you. He was being very protective of you tonight and he's sure to let everyone know who you belong to. As he keeps his grasp on you, you could feel his hot breath on your neck, and for some reason, you didn't really mind it one bit. This was the most emotion that he had shown in the entirety of your marriage, and you weren't sure how to feel about it.
A couple hours later, the party had ended, people left your home, and now it was just you and Coriolanus. The two of you were the only ones left in the house. The servants were either asleep or have already headed home. You were just about to take off the dress when the door of your bedroom suddenly swings open without any knock, in enters Snow who was staring straight at you. You could tell from the look on his face that he was trying not to show any emotion but he was failing pretty bad at it.
"Did you need something." You asked, you had your dark hair pulled forward to one shoulder, fully exposing your back and shoulders to him.
Snow doesn't answer you immediately as he was still taking in the sight of you with his eyes. It was clear he had quite the urge to walk up to you and kiss your lips, but he quickly shook that thought out of his mind. His cold and logical side preventing him from showing any sort of affection. He clears his throat first before he starts talking.
"Did you find yourself enjoying today's party?" He asks in his usual cold voice, which you are quite used to by now.
"It was alright." You replied, as you took off your earrings and placed them gently on your dresser.
It was quiet for a moment as he just watched you as you got ready for bed. His cold eyes were still locked onto your movements, but his pupils would follow your curves that were showcased in the dress. However, he manages to snap out of it and looks away momentarily before he speaks up.
"It was a bit bold of you to dress like that for the party." He says as he finally looks back at you.
You laugh in amusement, feeling kind of pleased that this was what was bothering him. "Is that what you really want to talk to me about? My dressing sense? Don't worry, everyone thought I looked beautiful and happy to be your wife. Just like a trophy wife like you said. " You remarked.
Snow's expression hardens at your comment and his tone becomes stiffer and colder than it was before.
"I said what I said because your role is to play as my wife and nothing more. That's all the role of a trophy wife is for, just to look pretty on my arm. Not to be used by other men who wishes to lay their hands on you" He says, he was being harsh towards you now and it was obvious he was more mad about the fact that you were danced with by another man for far too long.
"I was not dancing with him, he forced me to go on that dance floor. And if I refused outrightly, it would have caused a scene which would have hurt your image."
Snow remains silent for a long moment as he pondered on your statement before deciding that it was the truth. But he wasn’t going to easily accept that fact.
"Did you enjoy it though? Even if he forced you to, did you find the experience of dancing with him enjoyable?" He asks you, his eyes narrowing at you as he tries his best to not let his jealousy overflow over him.
You stare at him from the reflection of him in your mirror, your eyes locked onto his as he took slow steps towards you in your room. You smirked slightly, looking at the frown on his face that usually carried no emotions. "And what if I did?"
The fact that you didn't deny it pissed him off even more as the frown on his face grew darker and more apparent. He slowly walks towards you until he's standing directly behind you, his hot breath wafting onto your neck which made you shiver slightly.
"So you've enjoyed being in the arms of another man eh?" He says, his voice taking a darker tone.
You roll your eyes as you turn around to face him. "There's no need to worry Coriolanus. As long as I'm your wife, I don't have the luxury to do any sorts of those things. But, just for your sake, I'll be sure to be more mindful next time."
As you speak, you could almost feel Snow's anger growing as your words aren't exactly what he would like to hear.
"My wife is my property and as my property, you are not allowed to put yourself into such situations" he says as he now steps so close that both your bodies are almost touching. His hands were on your arms now, his fingers gripping harshly on them.
You hiss in pain at the sudden contact. "Okay. I understood your point, Coryo. Now let me go!"
As he hears you hiss in pain, his anger grows even more as he doesn't release your arm at all.
"Is that what you really want? For me to let you go? To be free? If so then I will be more than happy to let you go. After all, why keep something around that I don't really think is important." Snow says as he's finally starting to let his anger bleed through completely.
Using your full strength, you shoved him off of you, now getting frustrated from his treatment of you. It annoyed you to see how discardable you really were from his perspective. Tears welled up in your eyes as you yelled at him, "Well the day you do that, I'll be really happy. In fact, I'll celebrate the day that I'm free from this prison. So go ahead! Once you become president, I'm leaving you anyways." You unintentionally let that piece of information slip from your lips.
Upon hearing your words, Snow looks down at you with a glare. He can't believe you would mention that in front of him like it's nothing.
"Leaving me? After all the time we spent together?" Snow says with a sarcastic tone, but the look in his eyes are pure rage now.
"You don't need me after that anyways. What's the point of me staying? I'm not even a human being in your eyes. Once you become president, you will have all the power you want in the world, you don't need a trophy wife to appease to your citizens. And if you do, get someone else because I can't pretend to be happy being your other half anymore."
Even if Snow knew that statement was the truth, he couldn't help but be extremely offended by it either way.
"Did you think I would just let you go without a fight?" Snow asked, his tone still carrying hints of sarcasm as he closes the gap between the two of you.
A tear escapes your eye, but you quickly wipe it off. "Get out!" You say. "Leave my room this instant, I don't want to argue with you any further!" You demand.
The look of rage on Snow's face grew even worse as he heard you order him to leave your room.
"You are ordering me to leave now? Did it ever occur to you that maybe you should watch your tone a bit more?" Snow asks as he moves even closer to you, closing off any chance of you moving away from him.
You try to move away but only stumble into the dresser behind you, leaving you with no room to escape as he closed the gap between the two of you.
Snow continues to close the gap, getting right in front of you before he grabs your chin and forces you to look up at him.
"Do I not treat my wife well enough? Do I not provide for you? Do I not give you everything you wish for? And yet despite all this, you would leave me as soon as I become President?" Snow asks as his grip tightens on your chin slightly.
His words make you feel a bit guilty, but you know that you're not completely in the wrong. "Wife? Since when have we ever lived as husband and wife, Coriolanus? We don't even sleep in the same room and hardly eat meals together. Yet, you think I'm getting everything a wife should in a marriage?"
Snow's expression grew a bit colder upon hearing that, knowing that he couldn't really argue with you and the truth in your statement.
"You think that by becoming my wife, you'll get to experience true love or something of that sort?" Snow asked, but even he doubted the validity of the question. He was never someone who really could express his emotions, even when he did have them.
"Yes. I did. Even though I know this is not a real marriage, but I still foolishly wanted it to be. Somewhere deep down, I still wanted some affection from my husband." You confess, tears now streaming down your face.
Snow was taken aback by the sudden outburst of emotions from you. He never expected you to break like this and part of him felt regret about how he had treated you this whole time. The fact that you wanted an affection and some love just felt heartbreaking to him.
He lets go of your chin as he wipes away your tears with his hands now resting on your cheeks, as he tries to find the words to say to you right now.
"I want your love Coriolanus. I want you to love me without expecting something to fall in line with your current ambitions for power in return. I want you to love me selflessly. I want you to actually be mine. I want to be free rather than be a shallow puppet in this ridiculous play we act in front of the cameras."
Snow's eyes grew slightly in surprise, his mouth slightly gaping as he listens to what you said. He can't really argue with what you said as he's never really thought of you as anything more than a trophy wife. But to hear from you that you want him to love selflessly, to not want something in return, that you want to be yours. It was something that he's never heard before, so he stayed silent for a long moment as he contemplated what he should do now.
You slowly grabbed his hands that were still placed on your cheeks and slowly removed them from your face as you awaited his response.
Snow remains completely still as you remove his hands from your face, his eyes now were looking at your face trying decipher any form of deception or lies. It looked like he's in deep thought regarding what you have said to him. His mind was being conflicted from one half that still wants to uphold his cold attitude towards you and the other half wondering what would happen if he tried just loving you unconditionally.
You took his silence as his answer and sighed. It was no use. He didn't love you. "Just leave Corio." You tell him, giving up on this mockery of a relationship.
Snow remained silent for a few more seconds, but as he sees you looking away from him and he can read the emotion on your face, your disappointment and lack of hope, he can't stay silent anymore and finally answers you.
"No." Snow says, his tone was still cold, but you can tell he's trying his best to not let his emotions show.
You look at him in shock as Coriolanus just comes in closer, erasing the gap between the two of you.
Snow had finally decided; he'll do what you asked him to do. To love and care for you selflessly without asking for anything in return. But it'll take some time to break out of his cold nature which only focuses on his ambitions above anything else.  As Snow invades your personal space, he wraps his arms around your waist and pulls you into him.
Feeling shocked, you hesitantly wrap your arms around him as well, embracing him.
Snow holds you close, feeling the softness of your body against his. He lets out a small sigh of relief before moving his head down and pressing his lips onto yours. You gasp at the foreign feeling of his lips on yours which felt like it had been an eternity since the last time you’ve felt them. You can’t remember a time where you’ve shared a kiss with him not since your marriage ceremony. His lips felt so soft and full as he kissed you with an intensity that you had never felt before.
As your lips finally locked with Snow's, you have a rush of emotions flooding through you. The way he kissed you sent a chill down your spine as Snow's hands finally wrap around your upper back. It seems all the anger and emotions that he has been bottling inside of him for a long time is finally unleashing.
You moved your lips with his, moving your arms around his neck to pull him closer to you. The moment you pulled him closer to you, Snow completely loses himself as he kisses you back with even more fervor than before. As the kisses got longer and more intense, Snow's hands slides down past your back as they reach your hips.
You accidentally let out a moan against his mouth as you feel his touch. That moan of yours was the last push needed for Snow in letting his inner emotions explode. His grasp on you gets tighter still, his kisses getting even deeper than before, his hands now firmly squeezing your waist.
Somehow, both of you made your way to the bed with him laying on top of you, his lips attached to your neck while his hands still wandered over your body.
Snow's sudden shift in emotions was enough to catch even him off guard as he's now on top of you, his hands roaming over your body in places he never had the courage to touch before. He finally leans down and nibbles on your neck gently just below your ear while he starts to unzip your dress from behind.
You reciprocated by undressing him as well, letting the material of his shirt fall to the ground as you touched his toned skin. As Snow felt the touch of your body against him, he felt an electric feeling going through him. His hands immediately moved from your body and grabbed your arms to bring them above your head. Your bodies now pressed against each other completely as it was almost like your breath was becoming one and you could feel his every heart beat.
His lips attacked your once again, your hands still captured in his above your head as he continued to  press himself against you. Snow continued to kiss you even more aggressively now, his heart beating rapidly as this was the first time since you had married that he had actually touched you so intimately. His lips were moving down your neck until he reached the area around your collarbone, and he started to trail his kisses towards the center of your chest.
Your breaths get more shallower and heavier he continued with his actions. "Coryo." You moaned.
Snow hears your moans of pleasure and it only fuels his ambition and desire even more. His hands finally moves to your hair, his fingers gently running over your head as he continues to kiss and nibble on your neck.
Your nails scratch against his back pulling him closer. The sound of your nails scratching against his back makes Snow feel even more like he's lost in passion. As this continues on, Snow can feel his emotions rising even more and he starts to move his hands around your curves.
You finally feel his lips once more on yours, as his hands intertwined with yours pressing against the mattress firmly while he entered you without a warning, causing you to cry out in pain which was muffled by his mouth.
Snow was almost completely losing himself in this whole situation. He was so caught up in his feelings and emotions that even that loud cry of pain from you was not enough to deter his desires from him. His body was now pressed completely against yours, and he's no longer even trying to move around causing you to feel the full impact of his body as the pain grows.
You struggle against his body to make him slow down, as tears stained your cheeks. You felt like your body was being ripped apart from the pain. Snow begins to slow down his pace when he realizes that he's hurting you. But at the sight of your tears and the pained expression on you face, Snow just loses himself again.
"I'm sorry darling." Snow says, his voice was slightly shaky now. "I-I forgot what my strength was in comparison to yours. I should've been more gentle with you."
He wipes away your tears and kisses your forehead softly and doesn't move until you relax and give him a sign that you're ready.
When Snow sees that you have finally relaxed, he moves with a much more gentle pace. His hands are still tightly gripping around your hips as he moves more slowly and carefully with each of his movements. He gives you a few small kisses before finally moving his head down to your ear and speaks softly. "Am I hurting you now?"
You shake your head, feeling the pain eventually subside and feeling the pleasure instead as the pressure between your hips continue to rise and the force and speed with which he moves increases.
As this continues, Snow is once again losing his emotional control. His breath grows heavier and sharp, his movements becoming more urgent with each passing moment as he starts to slowly pick up the pace. You can already feel the tension slowly build up as the impact of his body starts to be felt more and more.
Your nails scratch down his back as you press your teeth down on his shoulder, feeling your body shake from a foreign feeling rippling through your body. The feeling of your nails against his back turning him on even more, and with each passing second he starts to let himself go, increasing the force and speed of everything. With that one sharp moan of yours, Snow finally completely loses it.
His pace gradually slows down and he presses his lips against yours gently. As his pace slows down to slow, deep and soft kisses, the emotions and desire inside of Snow suddenly feels like it has disappeared with each kiss that you've shared with each other. But as you feel the gentleness of his lips press against them, you can still feel the aftermath impact of your previous actions as Snow's body is still pressed directly against yours as his breathing is still quite heavy and sharp.
He removes himself from you momentarily to lie down beside you, but immediately afterwards, he pulls your body into his embrace. As you are pulled into Snow's embrace, you can feel that his grip is much more protective now. He starts to wrap his arms around you tightly and even his breathing has started to slow down gradually.
"I love you." You quietly whisper against his chest.
Those three words, those three words that have never been uttered by the both of you throughout your whole marriages, is enough to make Snow's heart flutter. His heart beat feels like it's about to come out of his chest as his breathing is now very calm and relaxed.
You close your eyes slowly falling asleep, feeling peaceful with Coryo's arms around you. Snow was also completely exhausted after what you both just did, but he doesn't mind as he feels content as he holds you in his arms now. He finally feels free now that you had confessed your love towards him, although there may be more struggles along the way to be a true loving couple due to your marriage being nothing more than a political arrangement. Snow feels as though this is the start, the start of what could be an actual relationship.
[END]
***Thank you for reading. I know Snow probably wouldn’t care if the person he married left him although his ego would be bruised and he might just take harsh decisions to ruin that person, but I just wanted a happy ending for once even though I was thinking of a more tragic ending initially. LOL.***

Everytime I see some dark!Coriolanus Snow fic with Lucy Gray I feel like... I don't know... This man is so deep down for her, she has the power in the relationship... He can try to gaslight himself at first but in the end he has to accept that he will do everything for her even before she asks.
Give that man two or three years after she left her, just the time to mourn and shit his pants and go crazy with the doubt that he killed her; then let her pop out again, and you see how the table turned, omg.

You were happy for Coriolanus when it was announced that he was part of the mentoring program for the 10th Hunger Games and also just so incredibly proud. If anyone deserved it, it was him, and you were convinced of that. That's why you continued to do your best. To be a supportive girlfriend and helped wherever you could - with encouraging words, with homemade treats or simply with your presence.
Unfortunately, your presence seemed to be the least in demand. You weren't necessarily happy about it either, but now that he had this big responsibility, he also had less free time available. That included hanging out with you, whether you liked it or not.
However, you believed that you could manage it. No problem. You just hoped that, like the last nine Hunger Games, the tributes would drop like flies so that the whole thing could be finished as quickly as possible and you could go on cute dates with your handsome boyfriend again. That was the case in the end, except that meaning that the games were over didn't mean that you could have Coriolanus all to yourself again. On the contrary, it seemed as if you had lost him during the games, and he wasn't even a tribute. At least you thought he wasn't.
When it was announced that Coriolanus' tribute would be the girl from District 12, you were a little disappointed along with him. Simply because he seemed to have got hold of the worst one there was. Your friends were initially worried that your jealousy would cause problems, but you reassured them (as well as your boyfriend) that you certainly wouldn't feel threatened by some covey girl from the lowest district.
At least, that was before Coriolanus gave you a reason to feel that way. He started showing up on TV with her, sneaking glances at her from the side, even going so far as to rig the games so he could save her from a gruesome death. You hoped that he would burn in hell along with her.
"Honey, I know you told me not to open the door for him or let him in if he ever shows up, but..." Your mother began to say in a gentle tone after she opened the door to your room. She knew you were sometimes a bit difficult to handle and you hadn't really told her what had happened between you and that Snow boy, but in her eyes, he always seemed to take good care of you. She complied with your request at first, but it had been several weeks since you had barricaded yourself in your room, and she was starting to get seriously worried about her only daughter. "...but that won't solve your problems either, and I think that - "
You interrupted your mother with a loud, annoyed sigh and straightened up in your bed to meet her gaze at the door. "Stop it, mom. I never want to see his face again. Let him get shot by a rebel on the side of the road for all I care. Hope he bleeds out painfully and everyone watches him breathe his last breath in his miserable state." You spit out one word after the other as if they were poison.
Unexpectedly, the person in question was able to contribute something to the conversation. "You really hurt me deeply with your cruel words, my sweet girl." Coriolanus said as he entered your room with a bouquet of white roses.
Your eyes widened in shock as you climbed out of your bed to stand upright, and before you could realize that he was standing in front of you, you looked angrily at your mother. "I can't believe you did that!" You exclaimed, feeling betrayed. You wanted to add a lot more, but in the brief moment you tried to gather yourself, Coriolanus quietly asked your mother to leave you alone for a while and she followed his request and closed the door behind her.
You looked up again when you heard the noise and had to stop yourself from pulling your hair out of your head. "You've got a lot of nerves showing up here. What's going on? Were the woods in District 12 a bit too tough for the city boy? Did you get tired of fucking the cheap pussy of a lower class girl?"
Coriolanus didn't really respond to what you said and placed the flowers he had brought you on your desk before taking off his red coat and placing it over your chair. You really could have a bad mouth when you were angry. He sometimes seemed to forget that. "There was nothing going on between me and Lucy Gray."
You let out a slightly maniacal laugh and could swear you were finally starting to lose your mind. "Oh yeah? And your cock is bigger than Rufus'." You said in a sarcastic tone before your smile fell from your face. "Don't take me for a fool, and don't you dare say her name in my presence!"
This time your words seemed to have hit a sore spot. You could tell by the slight twitch of his eyebrows that he was irritated. "Who's Rufus?" He asked in a serious tone, trying to remind you not to cross a line.
You had long since stopped worrying about what he wanted. "I think you know who Rufus is." You said challengingly, and with that, Coriolanus lost his patience faster than planned as he came at you with quick steps until your back was against the wall, and there was no way for you to escape. His hand tightened its grip on your jaw and angled your head so that your fiery gaze met his. "I was already expecting you to not be on your best behavior while I was gone, and you know what? I was willing to forgive you for that." He announced, his eyes wide with anger and his own jaw tensed as he tightened his grip on yours. "But fucking some boy behind my back while I thought about you day and night? Sleeping in those fucking barracks with four other soldiers and slaving away like I was just another dirty lower class citizen?"
You laughed when you saw the sadness in his eyes. "Stop whining at me with your shitty sad stories. You deserve so much more than that."
You could feel Corioalnu's breath on your skin as he still looked deep into your eyes, hoping to read somewhere in there that this wasn't the truth. That it was just another lie you told with the intention of hurting his feelings, and it did. "Your mother told me that you never read the letters I sent you." He whispered out, wanting to hear it from you.
He could have that. "I told her she was welcome to burn them."
She's driving me crazy, I'm really about to lose it. Calm down, Coriolanus, you're better than that. She's waiting for you to do that. He said to himself as he took a step away from you so that he wouldn't completely lose his temper and make the situation even worse. He was here to make you believe that everything could go back to the way it was, and it would. "So what? You want to break up?" He asked like it was the most silly thing ever. "Don't be absurd."
"No, of course not." You exclaimed, getting louder and louder. "I want to strangle you with my own hands first and then go to that stupid District bitch and tell her she can never have you, understand?! And then I'm going to beat her until she's green and blue, because you know what?! You're better off dead, than having to see you with someone else that isn't me! You're mine! You hear that?! Mine!" You shouted as you dragged him by his vest and then started beating his chest.
Coriolanus grabbed your arm with one hand to stop you when he felt like it was enough and the other in your hair so he could smash his lips against yours. He couldn't help it. He'd been thinking about it since he'd seen you, but he didn't want to upset you any further by interrupting you in mid-sentence. As much as he craved it, he knew you needed to get things off your chest to make you feel better, and he owed you that.
You had imagined your first kiss with Coriolanus, after all that shit to be just as aggressive as it was right now. With his tongue trying to taste as much of you as it could and with a longing that he didn't really give you or himself time to breathe. His body steered you towards your bed until the backs of your knees gave way, and you fell back onto the soft comforter of your bed. He followed you, taking care to support his weight with his arms. He took short breaths as your kiss was interrupted and rested his forehead against yours while he listened to the ones you let out. "I guess you can understand me then when I tell you that I'm going to kill that Rufus guy. Don't think I've forgotten." He whispered to you as he stroked your hip with his thumb, again growing bitter at the thought.
You smiled. "Of course, and I haven't forgotten how you're still lying to me how there was nothing between you and...her." You spoke up and had to stop yourself from putting your hands around his neck. You decided to play with the short hair on his neck instead. "Tell me the truth and never lie to me again. We never lie to each other, isn't that right, Coryo?"
It took him a moment to answer you. "No, we don't." He finally replied and thought about how best to approach the matter. The feelings between him and Lucy Gray were real. How briefly they may have lasted, and he couldn't deny that. Of course, he could never tell you that either - if he wanted another chance with you, and he did. At the end of the day, Lucy Gray and he were far too different from each other. Only with you could he have the future he craved here at the Capitol. A District girl could never grant him that wish.
"We've shared a few intimate moments together." He finally admitted, feeling your gentle hand on the back of his neck grow harsh. "We may have kissed once or twice, but it could never go beyond that. There was nothing between us because it could never become anything. She could never give me what you do."
That's right. She never could even if she wanted to. You hugged him and gave him another kiss. "You're a little different than you used to be. Your time as a Peacekeeper seems to have changed you. You seem more like a man than a boy." You complimented, showing that this was the end of the matter. You were ready to move on because even if you weren't ready to forgive him for his brief secret romance, you were ready to forget.
A seductive grin stretched across his face. "Oh, you think so?" He asked you as he leaned slightly to his side and nestled his one arm under your head while his other slowly moved further down to reach under the waistband of your pants and play with the fabric of your panties. "Do you like it, my dear?"
You returned his grin. "You know I do."
The reactions from your body would betray you if you gave him any other answer than that. You felt yourself getting wetter with the feel of his fingertips on your skin and your vision blurred by your need to feel him. "Please, touch me, Coryo." You begged him, knowing it was the only way to get him to do what you wanted. At least in the bedroom.
He let out a grunt at your current submissive behavior. She really is a devil when she gets angry, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't like that side of her, too. As long as it doesn't come out too often. "What is that I hear? Looks like you haven't forgotten your manners, huh? Are you gonna be my good girl again?"
He looked at you nodding at him with dreamy eyes. "Always Coryo, always your good girl."
His fingers tugged a little harder on the side of your panties this time. "No. I don't think so, my dear. Because if you were, you wouldn't let some stupid boy fuck my pussy, would you? Do you know what kind of girls do that?" He asked you in a sugar sweet voice that was laced with disappointment and that made you draw your eyebrows together. "Sluts who can't be satisfied with one cock and therefore spread their legs for everyone."
Seems like Coriolanus is still angry about that, but you didn't expect it any other way. After all, that's why you did it, because if he made you the other woman, you'd make him the other man. For a little bit, anyway. "I'm sorry, Coryo. Please. I love you, only you." You tried to apologize to him and move your hips so you could get more of his touch.
"I know you do." He replied, deciding not to tease you too much for once. Maybe some other time, he'd be a little harder on you and punish you appropriately, but right now, he'd much rather hear your sweet voice crying and pleading for him. He did really miss you, after all.

You could remember the first time you saw him. You were just a girl then while the Blonde God stood in front of your home with nothing but a bloody and marred blouse. He was there for your sister. He took her just like the other girls around the village. You remember not feeling anything as your own parents dragged her out of the home. You were numb, just like how you were when you saw your friend Arachne being shoved into his arms years later.
Everyone in the village feared the Blonde God. But you… you didn’t know if you could call how you felt fear. Was it fear? You believed it was so, at least that was what you told yourself.
Sister Gaul, a once good woman with pure intentions, changed when he came to her. He changed everything about her once kind demeanor. You could recall the first time she spoke of him, “God, himself, sent him here, for us!”
Your village, every one of them, was to worship him by giving him the girls he asked for and nothing else. In exchange, he would provide food and protection to your village. The families of the village weren’t hesitant to give them up, some were but their faith ran high for them even to question it. You were forced to watch as girl after girl would be given to him without a second thought. Some were lucky enough to survive this taking. But they went fully there when they came back nor did they remember what happened.
You could never stop thinking about his frosted stare that cold night. There was nothing but intense callousness in his eyes. For some reason, you still felt something hidden beneath it. Something deeper than his want for you to fear him. It was difficult to even explain to yourself so you made yourself forget that interaction. You made yourself forget you even had a sister.
You stared up at the ceiling pretending that the shadows in your room were animals like little fluffy bunnies prancing above you. It had your mind occupied till your little brother woke up with a sob.
“Another nightmare…” he whispered.
You sighed as you grasped his hands tightly. They started back when your sister was taken. They never stopped since. His dreams that he experienced that he explained to you were almost forewarnings. Like his inner mind knew when he was going to come, to take, and to devour…
“Anibal, remember what I told you. Breathe in and out,” you whispered as you smooth out his hair. He did what you said and when he was more relaxed did you ask, “Does thee want to tell me what happened?”
He became stiff next to you but he still tried to breathe through it before speaking up, “I saw him.”
“What happened…”
“Thou is next.” he ghostly whispered. You could tell it broke him to say it.
You sucked in a breath as you stared at the ceiling again, hugging him close and hushing him. His sobs were the only thing in the room you could focus on. You knew it was true. Anibal has seen it come true but you had long accepted your fate. No matter how much it hurts to have to leave your little brother alone in such a cold place. It was God’s will. He was the one that shined The Blonde God to your little village.
He was the one to blame.
. . .
“We can run away!”
“Be quiet Sejanus… they will hear us,” Festus for the first time in forever was actually being reasonable.
“Listen to me!” Sejanus yelled again.
“Sejanus, hush!” Hilarius finally said.
Clemensia’s eyes fell onto yours as you entered the little hideaway. She swiftly walked over to you and immediately wrapped herself around you. You could see the faint marks on her throat from when it was her time. You didn't know how she even survived but she did with no memory of what happened but it wasn’t like anyone had the stomach to ask.
“They have been at it for hours now,” She whispered as she slowly let you go.
“Can’t say I’m surprised…” You whispered back as you watched Sejanus and Festus argue once more.
“Honestly, it’s just Sejanus going mad with ideas. He hasn’t stopped since we started.” She stared at them before rolling her eyes. “Anyways, How is thee? How is Anibal?”
“We are managing as well as our parents,” You sighed.
“I can tell it looks like thou hasn’t had any sleep since the solstice,” Clemmie said with a smile as she rubbed your cheek.
You smiled back. She let go before staring at them and sighing. “Get some rest. For me at least.”
You nodded as she walked towards them trying to calm them both down before they started another fight.
You thought about what she said about getting rest. But you just couldn’t. You had to comfort your little brother if he woke up from a nightmare. You couldn’t bear the thought of him suffering through it alone. No one should ever have to see their siblings dying at the hands of a god. You didn’t have your parent’s help to comfort him. You are all he has. Ever since your sister was taken, your parents weren't the same.  The light drained from them, and every day became a new struggle.
“We don’t have to live in this village anymore,” Sejanus said as he threw down his bible. Everyone stared at him. They were exhausted from fighting. “We can start anew just like our father’s fathers did. We did it once, and we can do it again.”
“Think of what thee is asking! Alone in his woods? Thou has truly lost thyself to madness,” Hilarius spoke out.
“I’m not mad. Not any more than Sister Gaul. She and that godforsaken drunk of a priest are to blame. They led that demon into our village.”
Then there was a chuckle from the corner of the room. It was small but it quieted the room.
“Wilt thou stop it… there is no escaping this fate, Sejanus. I have come to terms with it and so shall you,” Io laughed. She continued to rock back and forth before finally breaking down.
It was quiet after that and Sejanus sighed loudly and left without another word.
“I’ll talk some sense into him,” you said following after him but someone stopped you with a tug.
You knew who it was before even turning around. A pair of beautiful, soft brown eyes locked onto yours. Your face lit up brightly just by the sight of hers.
“Thee willn’t go alone,” Lucy Gray said as she held your hand. You nodded and led the way toward the place you knew Sejanus would be.
It didn’t take long to get to the lake. You saw Sejanus there with a hard stare. He was throwing rocks. You stood back a little as Lucy Gray walked closer to him, letting go of your hand.
“You want to play a round?” Lucy Gray asked.
Sejanus wasn’t surprised it was you two who followed after him.
“You shouldn’t have to follow me,” he mumbled. “Always the peacemakers.”
“Sejanus…”
“Mad, crazy Sejanus… that’s all I am to them. As if this ritual isn't barbaric.”
“It is, Sejanus, it’s just…” you said trying to find the words but Lucy Gray completed it for you.
“We are all scared. There would be no way for us to run away and start anew. He would find us. Bring us back… bloody just like he did with Billy,” Lucy Gray croaked.
Billy was a touchy subject, no one brought him up. Ever. It was mostly fear that drove them never to mention his name again.
Sejanus stared out into the water. Sighing as he skipped his last rock, “I wish everything was different…”
You came forward, pulling his hands into yours.
“I long for a different life too. We all do…  But we have to stick with the present or at least try and think of smarter ways out of here without getting caught,” You spoke up. “Thee shouldn’t yell out plans to get them to listen.”
You all chuckled before Sejanus agreed.
. . .
Her lips were soft against yours. They were like petals off of flowers and tasted like warm sugar. It reminded you of the first time she ever kissed you. Out in the forest while you were scavenging for berries. It started as a small game. Whoever gathered the most berries would get a reward. You won and you were surprised when she gave you a peck on the lips.
Your first-ever kiss.
But it was so much more different now… it was heated, more intimate. She held your waist, rubbing it up and down. Her other hand held your face. Your hands were around her neck pulling her closer. The soft grass acted like a cushion between you and the hard surface of the earth.
She pulled back slowly, licking her lips as she looked into your eyes. You could feel your face becoming heated at the gesture. She smiled as she played with your hair.
“Lucy Gray… why ever did thou stop?” You playfully teased as you tried to regain your breath. You couldn’t stop looking into her big brown eyes. They were always the first things that captivated you. Her hand made its way to your face, her thumb slowly rubbing your lips.
“I wanted to see thou’s beautiful face,” she whispered, nudging her nose with yours.
You giggled as you both stared at each other. She looked so beautiful and relaxed under the pale moonlight. Here she was just yours, and you hers. You could forget everything about yourself. She was your escape.
She slowly started to kiss you again but this time she made her way down your face. Her lips made their way to your neck then your collarbone, nipping and kissing whatever spots she could find, causing a slight whimper to leave your lips. You could feel her smile against your throat as you whined.
Your mind though couldn’t stop drifting. She could help you forget but only to a certain extent. You thought about Anibal. You were scared your parents left him alone again. They promised they wouldn’t but you couldn’t take that chance.
“We… we need to get back soon,” you whispered.
“Ye needn’t worry. They won’t expect us to be back for another hour,” she said softly against your breast. You held her hand and her eyes moved to yours.
“It will take a good while to lace this backup, Ms. Lucy Gray.”
“It willn’t, gorgeous. Not with my quick fingers,” she said with a smirk that you wanted to wipe off so badly. You rolled your eyes and tried your best to hide the smile on your face as you let her proceed with a nod.
You gasped as she held her hand to your chest, kissing her way slowly down your chest. She loved to worship your body.  You were never the one that gave, Lucy Gray was too much of a giver for her to let you. She insisted that you lay back and let her ravage you.
Her fingers danced their way down your stomach and then to your skirt. So many layers for warmth but all you wanted to do was to rip them off. You felt her push it up slowly. She loved to take her time. That and the mix of her licking and kissing your breasts made you wither beneath her.
You felt her fingers swipe across your clit, your head fell back and the air in your lungs left. She made her way back up to your face, a gleeful expression adorned on her features.
“Can I?” She whispered in your ear.
You nodded before pressing your lips against hers. She smiled into the kiss as her fingers slowly entered you. She was always so gentle and loving when she used her fingers. Her thumb slowly circled your clit making you moan out. Your whole body felt like it was soaked as she played you like an instrument.
A part of you wanted to be on top this time around. You didn’t know how but you managed to flip both of you over. You were on top though you were the one still spread for her. She smirked as she went faster. Her gaze was the only thing you could focus on. Her soft smile and big brown eyes. You leaned in as her other hand held your face, her thumb softly moving over your lips. She gave you a heart-melting kiss before pulling away.
It wasn’t going to be long now. You were moaning now coming apart on her fingers. You knew you were close, it was written all over your face. She smiled before kissing your cheeks.
“Cum for me, gorgeous,” she whispered.
You cried out into her shoulder gripping her clothes and the grass surrounding you. Tears kissed your eyes then and you couldn’t stop the giggle that came out. You fell beside her staring up into the starry sky.
“What is it?” She asked. You were the only thing she stared at.
“I started tearing up,” you replied with a smile. You felt her finger wipe away a tear.
“As I said, quick and magical fingers,” she said, waving her fingers in the air.
“You are gross!”
“And you love me for it.”
“And I love you for it.”
She held you tightly while you both laughed.
“We need to get dressed. Mother is cooking your favorite.”
“Tis not a jest?” She bolted up immediately and you shook your head with a smile.
“We need to go.”
“Okay, okay. Help me with my bodice first,” you laughed.
You both sat up and she made quick work on your bodice. When she was done her hands made their way around your waist pulling you close to her. Her lips found yours once again. Only then did you hear a twig snap and both of you looked in the direction of the sound. Yet there was nothing there.
“We should…”
“Yes, we should get going… come on,” Lucy Gray said wearily. She picked you up swiftly and walked you out of the forest hand in hand.
. . .
“O God, the all-powerful made us anew!” Father Casca mumbled.
He was drunk like he always was since him. It was so obvious that your brother even looked at you. Your little brother’s perplexed face would usually make you laugh but it was concerning you how it seemed like Father Casca wasn’t all there nowadays. He would mumble for hours about God and the gifts he brought to the village just like he did now.
“Thou brought Him to us! We shall thank thee! All shall thank our all-powerful God. Shouldn’t we Sister Gaul?”
She was beside him. Her stature was so upright it seemed like her back would snap from the tension. She nodded and narrowed her eyes, watching him wave her onto the pedestal. She closed her eyes before huffing.
“We shall thank thee in an ending prayer,” Sister Gaul announced.
You looked over at Lucy Gray who was giving you a slight smile. “Drunks,” she mouthed. You had to stop a smile from forming. Mama wouldn’t tell you the end of it if you laughed now.
Finally, after the prayer the communion ended. You could finally go on and do your chores. You used to hate them but that was before a time long forgotten. You didn’t have to think when you did them.
“Hitherto me, little one,” Mother said with a glazed stare.
“Yes, mother.” You walked towards her, Anibal was beside her staring at the edge of the forest. His eyes were watery but before you could even question it your mother spoke up.
“Gather water.” She then gave a quick hug, and an even quicker whisper, “Hurry back when thy is done.”
“Of course, mother.” She held your face and tucked your hair behind your ear.
She was getting afraid too now. You knew then that Anibal had probably told her too what he saw. You tried to keep it off your mind on the way to the well. The well was a pretty sight to behold. Flowers were growing near the well. It was someone’s favorite. But you immediately pushed it out of your mind as you lowered the bucket.
“Shall we have another go,” A voice said. You smirked as you already knew who it was.
“It’s barely been a day and thee already misses me?” You quietly replied as you pulled the bucket back up.
“Of course, I can’t bear to be without thee,” Lucy Gray whined.
You laughed as you sat the bucket on the edge of the well. You turned around to see Lucy Gray with flowers in her hair. It was a beautiful sight. She looked like a goddess.
Her hands were behind her back as she stepped closer. When her hands came into view she had the same flowers and put them throughout your hair.
“I got some for your mother as well,” she said with a smile.
“Lucy Gray… how thoughtful.”
Her face was so close to yours now. Your hand made its way to her face, light cupping her cheeks before pulling her into a kiss. She tasted like she did before, sweet and soft. Her hands wrapped themselves tightly around your waist. The kiss deepened as you pulled her closer to you like you were afraid she was going to vanish in front of you. You could feel her smile as her lips pressed against yours.
You pulled back, staring at her temple to temple.
“I love you,” you whispered, almost scared she was going to pull away.
“I love you too,” she said back with that soft smile.
You both would’ve continued if you hadn’t heard a noise coming from deeper in the forest. You both snapped your heads in the direction of it.
“We should go… I need to go give Mother this water.”
“It’s almost midday, gorgeous, there's nothing to be scared of right now. The sun is out, nothing will hurt us here,” she said and she sounded so sure.
Lucy Gray let you go as she walked towards the sound. You stood there furrowing your brows, trying to keep yourself calm as she walked deeper in. She was right, the sun was beaming down, so the creatures of the woods were resting now. Still, you were shaky, unable to calm yourself down from being left alone in his woods nonetheless.
“Lucy Gray, Mother will expect me to be back by now…” you yelled out.
You felt a sudden touch on your shoulder, causing you to jump.
“Be not a fool Lu-,” You laughed as you turned around.
But there was no one there. You kept your face straight ahead, the smile that was once on it now gone.
You heard Lucy Gray yell your name after a minute. She grabbed you laughing.
“There was a fawn…” she stopped laughing as she took in your face. “What’s wrong with thee?”
She grabbed both of your hands as she tried to force a smile on her face. She repeated your name taking you out of your trance.
“I- I don’t… we should get back, Lucy Gray,” you whispered.
“Yes, of course,” She replied with a nod.
You both walked out of the forest. You can’t help but still feel the sense of something or someone… still staring out at you, watching, waiting for its moment to strike.
You woke up to the sound of Anibal praying. He was focused as he recounted a specific prayer.
“O God, the Protector of all that trust in Thee, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy, increase and multiply upon us Thy mercy; that, Thou being our Ruler and Guide, we may so pass through things temporal that we finally lose not the things eternal. Grant this, O heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake our Lord. Amen.”
You were silent as he went back to bed sliding in next to you. He shook tirelessly and you wondered how you didn’t wake up before to comfort him.
“Anibal..?” You whispered.
He stilled and you sighed as you pulled him close to you. It was still dark out, dawn still hadn't broken. Anibal turned to you, hugging you close to him.
“Was it a nightmare?”
He nodded with his eyes closed.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
He shook his head and before long started to sleep quietly. You were scared. He usually always told you his dreams. You petted his head while staring out to the small window. You could feel sleep coming slowly just before you heard some light tapping.
You looked out the window again. Nothing. You ignored it and tried to drift off. This time it proved to be harder. You slowed your breathing and thought about Lucy Gray. Her beautiful smile and voice. The way she held you. Then finally you could feel your mind calm and your body relax.
You woke up again to your mother holding your face and smiling down at you.
“My beautiful one… wake up,” she said softly.
Anibal wasn’t next to you which confused you. He was always the one to wake you up first. You stared at her silently and rubbed your eyes.
“Mother… where’s Ani?”
“Outside with father. Thee has overslept.”
“Mother! I’m so sorry, forgive my laziness oh lord please forgive me.”
“No, no thee is fine. Thee looks much better now. Well rested,” Mother said quietly, sadly.
You stared at her, your eyebrows furrowed. You could tell something was wrong. Something wasn’t right.
“Is something wrong Mother..? What ails you?”
“Nothing, Beautiful one,” she says again but it came out with a croak, tears were starting to bloom in her eyes.
You looked outside. It wasn’t any lighter, it was like time stopped moving. She smoothed out your face as if she’s never going to see it again. That’s when it clicked. You stared at her, shaking your head.
Father came not a second later, picking you up, and dragging you through the door. You couldn’t stop the scream that tore through you, matching yours was Anibal’s locked inside of your parents' room.
“WAIT! Cyril!”
“Marilu… it’s time. He’s been waiting all night. It’s almost dawn.”
“Just let me have a few more moments, please. She will not have the same fate as dear Brionna,” Mother started to cry. First a couple of tears then rivers started following from her.
“I love you, my sweetest girl…” she hugged you tightly as you cried with her.
“I- please… please! Don’t do this… please Father Mother!”
Father ignored you as your sobbing worsened. Anibal’s screams got louder like he knew you neared the door.
“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts,  As we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil…” You whispered your voice quivering as your father threw you outside. You kept reciting the Lord’s Prayer until you saw him. All the sounds that came from your home were silenced in his presence.
You kept still like if you moved he would strike you right then and there. Like a snake.
His blue piercing eyes were all you could focus on. You would’ve screamed if his presence didn’t send you into a deep state of fatigue. His head tilted at you, making you feel so insignificant. Your memory of that day flashed through you. The day he stole your sister.
Your sister… Your sweet sister… On the ground being held by her hair. His cobalt eyes stared into yours. His face tilted at you, a smile slowly etched onto his features. That crazed and twisted stare with a smile so deadly it could tear out a man’s heart. He dropped your sister’s head and made his way towards you. You could remember the feeling of arms tugging you and the only thing you heard was the sound of you and your sister’s screams.
You felt a whoosh of air around you, a sharp piercing pain on the side of your neck, and then blood coating your lips.
Then it was nothing. Just the sensation of falling through the air. You were blind to it all. Or maybe it was too dark to see. That was all you could remember.
. . .
It was dark.
Silent, dark, and cold.
Your eyes could barely pry themselves open but when you could finally see. You saw black. The room was covered in black. The bed you were on. The walls. The floor. The ceiling. It was all the same color making it seem like you were in more of a void than a room. You carefully pulled off the covers from yourself. Your jelly legs made you collapse onto the stone ground in a thud.
The pain was barely there if at all any. All you could feel was a sharpness at the base of your stomach. You wanted to claw it out, to rip it to pieces whatever was hurting you.
It didn’t feel like a wound or the feeling of something hitting you.
It felt like hunger…
Like you were starving.
You screamed out loud from a sudden new sting in your stomach. You were in so much pain you couldn’t bear it anymore.
You collapsed again.
When you woke up it was a bit brighter. You were somehow on the bed now. There was a candle lit on the other side of the room. It was spacious, nothing like you and Anibal’s room.
You stared at it and you wanted to go pick it up. To investigate it but the pain. The hunger within you kept you down on the bed. You fell asleep again but this time when you woke up, you felt liquid going down your throat.
You looked up only to be greeted with a piercing gaze. Long blonde hair was all you could really see along with a scent of sweet cream. You tried to focus again on the sight before you. You could see clearly that a girl was above you. Just from the hair alone, you knew who it was.
Arachne was just hovering above you. Her hand was stretched out while blood flowed from it and into your mouth. You screamed, a shriek so loud it made you question if it was even you who did it. You pushed her away from you and took in the scene in front of you.
Blood was all over your nightgown. A nightgown you didn’t even remember you had on. The white tulle was now ruined, and blood was soaked all over your collar, bodice, and arms. You stared down and you couldn’t stop screaming.
But what made you scared, so scared you couldn’t stop crying… you finally felt satisfied. Full for the first time in many days you felt like you’d been there. You wanted more so much more so you could be full.
You were already near Arachne’s neck when you finally came to. You forced yourself away and your back hit the wall hard.
You watched Arachne. She was unmoving in a ball on the floor. She looked skinny like she was drained of every fiber of her being. It was like she was in a trance. She wasn’t fully there, her eyes were pale and hollow. Her cheeks were so gaunt that you could see the outline of her bones. You couldn’t stop the tears that escaped your eyes. If this was the fate of Arachne… then what of your sister?
You had hoped she was dead, so she wouldn’t see what you were now.
You turned your head sharply to the sound of a door opening. Two small men came strolling in, behind them was who you knew as the Blonde God. His blonde hair and bright blue eyes were mesmerizing. You were pulled into a trance just by the sight of him alone.
The men grabbed Arachne as her head lolled over. You wanted to run over and grab her back. You wanted to kill those men for even touching her but you were too scared to even move. Just from his presence alone, the Blond God made the room stand still.
He walked near you, hands politely behind his back. You got a whiff of his scent, roses. The sweet smell of roses made its way to you. He stared at you while a smile slowly started to spread across his face.
“Finally, thee is awake,” he said, his voice almost enchanting.
You stayed quiet, folding your arms around yourself and shaking.
“I’m sure thee isn’t hungry… right? I made sure Arachne was able to sustain thee for the time being.”
He walked closer before bending his knees to meet you at eye level.
“Or maybe I’m wrong… and thee still hungers for more.”
You shook your head and he pulled out a deep chuckle. There was something about him that made you want to submit. The intense feeling that he was supposed to be in control over you. You stared at him. It was a strange feeling. Very strange. He gave you his hand and pulled up with him.
You sighed and stared down at your feet. You couldn’t even feel how cold the stone was, you couldn’t feel anything. It was as if your senses had heightened and depleted.
He walked you to the door and out into the hallway. It was long and dark, foreboding almost. You looked around and there were candles dimly lighting your way. You could see without it not that candles would’ve helped much anyway.
He walked you to the dining hall. It was large and spacious. There was no way he kept this all to himself. He walked you toward your side of the grand table then he walked toward his. You stared at his end, there was a crystal goblet filled with red liquid. You already knew what it was by the smell of it.
He smiled towards you and spoke up, “I’m sure thou has questions?”
You didn’t know why but all you did was nod.
“So go ahead and ask away.”
“What…” you huffed and started again. You tried to think of what words to say. “Have you… turned me into a monster?”
“If you call everlasting beauty monstrous then sure.” He smiled.
You furrowed your eyebrows, “and those girls…”
“Fail transformations… they are as thou calls still living beings.”
“And my sister..?” You said trying to calm yourself down. You could feel anger coursing through you. “What was done with her?”
“Ahh Brionna… beautiful girl. Not a beauty like you.” He said in a tone that had your body swaying. You still pulled together a cold demeanor.
“What of her?” You said and pounded your hand on the table. Parts of yourself were batting for control and you needed to try to pull yourself together.
“Do not raise your voice at me, little dove,” he whispered and it was enough to make you silent but not obedient. “She’s gone… she walked into the sunlight and burst into flames. She couldn’t handle being like us.”
You shook your head as tears started to fill your eyes, “Why do you keep saying, us?”
“Because thou is now like me. Thee is part of the undead. A vampire.” He drank the rest of the goblet and let the blood drip down his mouth. His face now mirrored yours. He got up and walked towards you. You started to shake when he got closer, tears were falling fully now.
“What ails you, little dove?” he asked in such a soothing tone.
“You,” you whispered as you glared at him. “You are a monster.”
He was quiet when you got face to face with you and then he spoke up. His eyes were the only thing you could focus on.
“I am.”
He grabbed your face causing a scream out of your mouth. He took that moment to shove his tongue in your mouth. You tasted the sweet blood of another girl who was unlucky enough to be a blood vessel. He lifted you onto the table, holding you tightly to him as he made his way down your neck.
“I watched you… and that girl,” he whispered in your ear causing a shiver to run through you. “Little performers, the two of you are,” he chuckled as his hands ripped your nightgown in half.
You didn’t know what to do. Your body stayed still like it craved his touch. It was an actual battle for yourself, for your own body. You gasped as you clutched his hair, pulling it back when his fingers entered you.
“Tell me if I eat you better than she does,” he groaned when your nails started to puncture his head.
His tongue was all over you. He couldn’t stop licking and sucking every area around your clit. You screamed when his fingers entered a special spot within you. You didn’t want to be touched by him and yet you still yearned for it. Lucy Gray could only touch you like that and you felt like you were betraying her.
The feel of his fingers. The stickiness of his tongue had you moaning and writhing beneath him. Your crying didn’t slow once when you felt that sudden coiling in your stomach. When Lucy Gray would do it to you. You let go of his hair to claw to the table, loud shrieks came from it. Your nails tore through the wood. He was all over you everywhere, sucking and kissing wherever he saw fit. Finally, you felt it, that euphoric feeling. A calm rushed over you and your whole body could finally relax. You breathed deeply as you felt him get up and kiss your lips deeply. In your blissed-out state you didn’t focus on the feel of his length on your thighs, so when he entered you the gasp that left you was sharp.
It was a different feeling that had you wanting to push him away. You couldn’t tell if you liked it but that didn’t stop him from thrusting into you. He was so deep that you had to gasp for air. Your chest curved up to the sky as if you were ascending to heaven itself.
You tried to keep a calm mind but it was all over the place every thrust and every moan that fell from his lips had you rolling your eyes. You could feel yourself go numb.
He held you to him, pressing his lips against yours. “Perfect, little dove. You feel so perfect.” He moaned into your lips.
His moaning had you tightening all around him. He smiled down at you, “So wet. Can’t you hear yourself and the way you are singing for me?”
You did but you didn’t want to focus on it. The sounds that came from you both, the wet noises of your cunt greedily sucking at his cock. You wanted to throw up, to pull him off of you but the brutal pace he set had you gripping him for stability. You crawled his back so hard you felt a wetness seep from it. It wasn’t his blood that was coursing through him. It was the one from the goblet. The smell told you, it was addicting. It smelled like roses, the first scent you ever smelled off him. You guessed that was the reason for the scent. You couldn’t stop yourself from biting down on his large chest. The groans that you pulled from him kept you from stopping and the blood was sweet liquid gold. It fully sated your hunger as soon as it hit your lips. You moaned from the taste alone.
He smiled at you as he brought his mouth down to your neck. He took a bite and started to drink from you too. The scent of blood in the air mixed with his thrusts had you coming again. He did one deep thrust that had him following you not long after. You were spent, you could barely pick yourself up. He stepped away from you and pulled his trousers back on.
“There are so many things for you to learn, little dove,” he said with a chuckle as he picked you up bridal style. You leaned your head against his chest.
“So many things.”
. . .
Coriolanus, your now master, was one of the first things he taught you. His name and what it meant. He taught you more things. Things you needed to do to survive.
But when he wasn’t teaching you, it was as if you were animals. It was nonstop he would come into your room and fuck you until you were a bloody mess under him. You felt awful. You couldn’t sleep anymore because of your now “ailment.” You could rest but not sleep, not dream. You wanted a place where you could escape him even just for a second.
But from what he taught you. You can’t… he was your master now. He was now connected to you in a way that forced you to submit to him. You had to listen to him because your body will. He owns you and your very soul, not that you had one since you were dead. You grew depressed. You couldn’t bear the thought of this being your life. For weeks on end, you would stare out the window waiting for something, someone. Anything. But nothing ever came, just him and… his hunger for you.
It got to the point where you couldn’t eat. You wanted to rot away desperately but he wouldn’t allow it. He threatened he would kill Aranche in front of you and your brother. He promised he would cut out her heart before feeding it to Anibal. It kept you from starving fully mostly because he took pity and gave you some of his “blood” to drink instead. Though it didn’t hurt you when you did starve yourself, you just didn’t look like yourself.
Your face would be gaunt and your skin looked so dull. It was like your body ate itself when you didn’t feast. Coriolanus didn’t like it when you looked like that. Since all your beauty would go away. He didn’t like it when you weren’t beautiful.
So every time you needed to drink he would fuck you and let you drink from him. He didn’t really care that he was a source of “blood” because of how much he loved being inside of you. Though he did taunt you from time to time and call it a jest. He made cruel remarks on how you can’t live like that forever and one of these days your hunger will drive you to kill every civilian in the village. You would deny ever needing human blood and he would laugh like you told him the funniest joke in the world. It was true. You didn’t know how long you could survive like this. Every day of him on top of you, and your body milking him for every drop of blood or otherwise.
That is why you ran. You ran fast, faster than your mind could comprehend. The way you escaped was spontaneous. You stabbed him with a makeshift stake and took off. You were weak this time around since you were still feeding off of him. Vampire blood wasn’t like human blood so it could only sustain you for so long. You could barely stand and you were “out of breath” for the first time since you were turned.
You collapsed onto the ground in a huff. You could barely move and to be completely honest you would’ve laid there forever. Forever… until you smelled something. You followed its scent even though you could barely control your senses. Your eyes were blurry and you could barely make out the small animal in front of you.
When you finally did see it you frowned. It was a bunny. A small helpless bunny.
You couldn’t bring yourself to harm it. There was no way so you turned away but the scent caught your attention again. You didn’t know when it got into your grasp or how. It was like you went into a frenzy. You couldn’t stop your body as your teeth pierced its soft flesh. You felt so much better after drinking its blood. You finally felt strong. You tried not to waste a single drop but some of it still ran down your chin.
You heard the sound of twigs breaking. It made you pause in your position. You heard the sound of your name from a voice you loved. The tone immediately placated you.
You turned around and the girl that stood there was in a black garb, the one she wore in mourning. You didn’t know how long it’s been since you’d last seen her. Her eyes were bloodshot and puffy. She still looked so beautiful since the day you last saw her. You looked at her and all those times Coriolanus had you, were now all over your mind. You couldn’t stop the tears from falling.
“Lucy Gray,” you sobbed and ran into her arms.
She hugged you tightly to her or at least tried to. Usually, her arms felt tight around you. She always squeezed you like you were going to disappear from her. Now… she felt like nothing against you.
She was warm and soft against you. You could smell her, sweet just like her soft lips. You tried to ignore it as she hugged you. You could feel her tears all over your neck.
“I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry,” you kept saying. She pulled back and held your face. Her eyes were stuck on the blood that covered your chin. You wiped at it, not even wanting to meet her eyes.
“Hush now… you’re okay. You’re with me now.” It got quiet after that Lucy Gray just stared at you while you stared at the ground. She said your name, holding your face up so you could look at her. “What happened?”
You started shaking your head as you leaned into her, “I can’t- I don’t…” You didn’t want to talk about that, you just wanted to hold her and never let go.
“Gorgeous…”
The nickname only caused an agonizing gasp to leave your cracked lips. How could she still call you that? You didn’t look like yourself. You thought you didn’t look like you were hers, so how could she still love you?
“How about we get you cleaned up?”
You couldn’t bring yourself to speak. It would only come out in a croak so you opted to nod. She took your hand and led you onto a path, a path you knew like the back of your hand. She slowly started to walk into the water with you. She walked until the water was around your waist. She rubbed off the dried blood on your chin and picked out the leaves and sticks in your hair. She rubbed off any remaining dirt and brought you back to the shoreline.
You were quiet as you sat there. Lucy Gray couldn’t stop the glances that she threw at you. She was worried, the last time you went silent. Your sister was stolen from you.
“Do you want to see Anibal?” She asked and you could only shake your head.
You couldn’t stand the thought of him seeing you like this. You weren’t you. You were dead. You weren't his sister anymore. You were going to continue to be “alive” while he would grow old and die. You couldn’t live with yourself if you gave him that fate. It would be better for him to think his sister was dead.
“I shouldn’t have come back…” you quietly said. Lucy Gray stared at you grabbing a hold of your hand.
“No, don’t say that. I thought I lost you,” she said as she held your hand in her lap.
“You did.” You stared into the water and watched as the waves crashed into the shore. You took your hand out of her lap and brought your knees to your chest. You were tired. No, tired wasn’t the right word. You felt dead. You started to cry again. You were in mourning for your life before the Blonde God.
Lucy Gray took your face in her hands. She rubbed your cheeks and then your lips before pulling you into a kiss. You melted into it. You missed the feeling of her. She was your safety that was until you felt the presence of your master. You turned to see him staring daggers at you both. You got up immediately and pushed her behind you.
“I gave thee eternal beauty… powers beyond the world has ever seen and thou betrayed me.”
“I… I just wanted to see her.”
“You almost killed me!” He screamed at you with so much malice you could only keep your gaze on the ground. He was berating you like you were a child though you almost killed him. You didn’t feel bad, maybe half of yourself did but you couldn't not fully. You never asked for it. You never wanted to be turned. You would rather be dead.
Lucy Gray stood next to you, standing ground. She glared at him, “Tis a shame really… that she didn’t kill thee. ‘would’ve been better off.”
Coriolanus gaze was hard now like he couldn’t believe a human was talking to him in such a way. Before you knew it he was grabbing her and holding her by the throat.
“No lesser being gets to speak to me like that. Especially you,” he said. You heard a sharp gasp come from her and you looked down at her chest to see the same stake you stabbed him with. He threw her onto the ground like she was nothing. You ran over to her tears flooded your eyes. You wanted to scream, to hurt Coriolanus, to do something but you couldn't, you could just hold her to your chest.
She smiled at you as she held her chest, “Tis better this way…”
You shook your head as tears made their way down your cheeks.
“I- I can’t live without you,” you cried, “I love you.”
She started to cry too at the sound of your voice. She closed her eyes trying and sighed, “I love you too.” She held your face and wiped your tears. Her touch was always still so soft. Her eyes started to glaze over when a thought came from you.
You looked at your wrist and slowly you sliced the skin. You didn’t know if it would work but you still tried. Blood spilled onto the ground as you held it over her mouth. You were pulled from her immediately when a few drops fell into her mouth.
“Foolish girl. It won’t work,” he angrily said as he pulled you close to him. He held his lips to your ear, you tried your best to pull him off. “She's dead, accept that.”
You screamed getting frustrated that you couldn’t pull him off of you.
“Accept it.” He said. You finally accepted that you weren’t going to be let go. You sighed as you stared at Lucy Gray. You could feel tears coming back as you turned your head.
. . .
“Drink,” he spoke again. It was the tenth time he said it. You were a shaking crying mess as you bit into Io’s wrist. She passed out in your lap. You were glad she did when she first saw you.
Every part of your body was raging at the smell of blood. Human blood. You groaned when the blood hit your tongue. You couldn’t say you didn’t miss the taste of human blood but you never felt more like a monster as you do now.
You dropped Io’s hand when you had enough. You sighed deeply and wiped your mouth with your sleeve. You stared at Coriolanus as he tipped his head meaning you could finally go back to your room and sulk. He hasn’t touched you since Lucy Gray. However many weeks or months since that happened you haven’t drunk since. You were on a strike and you couldn’t bear the thought of drinking from him or anything else. You just wanted to die and be with the person you loved. The person who knew you, like the back of her hand.
You dropped into your bed and started to cry again. That's all you did. Rest, cry, and repeat. You now had all the time in the world and you were wasting it crying. You knew if Lucy Gray were to see you now. She would be disappointed. She wouldn’t want you to cry about her, she would want you to be strong but you couldn’t. You had never had that thought of a world without her. A world without Lucy Gray.
Now you were mourning her… and mourning your life. You missed your friends. Your little brother. Your mother. You would give anything to see them again. Just to feel their arms around you.
The rain started to pick up as you cried. Thunder and lightning were all you could hear beyond your sobs. You then heard glass shatter and a figure floating at the edge of your window. You rubbed your eyes and furrowed your eyebrows at the sight. You carefully walked over to find Lucy Gray. She was covered in blood. From the smell, it was animal and certain scents of human. Her head was tilted downward making her hair cover every inch of her face.
“Lucy Gray…” you quietly said. You felt scared just by the sight of her. She landed on the glass shards. Her stepping on them caused a horrible sound. When she made her way to you, you couldn’t help but feel awful. She was here with you now. Changed… she was like you and you didn’t want that for her.
“I missed you, gorgeous,” she whispered in your ear as her arms wrapped themselves around you.
You stood there not knowing what to do. It took you a minute to hug her back. You heard the door open and watched as Coriolanus’s silhouette stood at the door. Lucy Gray pulled herself from you as she turned. She still held your waist as she stared at Coriolanus. She rubbed the side of your neck with her face causing blood to soak into your skin and nightgown. She grinned at Coriolanus when she was done and you didn’t know who to look at, your master or your undead lover.

*•.¸♡Words: 1.1k
Part 2
Growing up in the Covey had been a stroke of luck, simple as it gets, when Lucy Gray Baird and her family had been forced into District 12 Seeing the talent you had with a guitar one night as you played to the darkness, they took you to their next show where you played alongside Lucy Gray. She was still the star, she had the smile, the voice, the charisma. You could sing when you needed to, and you played the guitar just as well, but she always took the spotlight. And when she strolled into town after winning the Hunger Games, that star power only grew. She was the star, until one sunny morning.
Mockingjay's sang into the wind, the warm sun beating against your skin and the gentle breeze made your sundress flow in the wind. Meeting Lucy and the others on the walk to the lake you came face to face with Coriolanus Snow. Buzzed blonde hair, sharp jawline and the bluest eyes you had ever seen. His smile was bright, and his laugh was as sweet as Lucy’s singing. And it should be, he was laughing at her jokes. Smiling at her. Before he could catch you staring your eyes had shifted quickly, focussing on Lucy as you walked to her side.
She beamed as she saw you, wrapping her arms tightly around you.
“Coriolanus, I want you to meet only the bestest person in the world,” Lucy went on, kissing you quickly on the cheek.
The same smile returned as he turned to shake your hand, his skin soft on your calloused palms. “It’s nice to finally meet you.” He spoke your name softly, the syllables dripping from his tongue like honey. Your hand slipped from his, the tips of his fingers running along your palm.
Lucy quickly ushered you and the rest of the group on, starting the long hike down the green hills. Lucy walked ahead with Aurora, talking wistfully into the wind. You walked in silence, one hand gripping the strap of your satchel as you watched the critters race up the branches of the trees.
“Lucy said you played the guitar,” Coriolanus spoke up, swatting away another mosquito. He walked beside you, his tall figure blocking the sun from your face. He looked down at you, his eyebrows furrowing slightly. “Why didn’t I see you performing last night?”
You simply shrugged. The answer was the crowds didn’t cheer for you, Lucy was the star, and she could play for hours without backup. But it sounded sad. You looked over the trees, the Mockingjay's flying higher into the trees. “Nothing special, you probably just missed me when I left.”
Coriolanus shook his head softly, “I feel like I’d remember you.” You couldn’t place what Coriolanus meant, your eyebrows furrowing as you thought over his words. You didn't say anything more after that, keeping your eyes ahead on the track leading to the lake.
As soon as the dock was close enough Aurora and Tip had stripped their clothes off and thrown themselves in the water. You tossed your bag down, the hot sun that had beat against your skin had made you more than happy to rush into the water. Tossing your sundress aside with your satchel you ran down the dock and dove under the crystal blue water. The cool lake chilled your skin enough to relieve the sun but not enough to raise goosebumps.
You swam up to the surface, pushed the hair back for your face and fixed the straps of your handmade bra that slid down your shoulder. Lucy jumped in after you, and with a yell, Coriolanus jumped in, the splash of water hitting your face. You laughed, using your arms to keep you afloat. Coriolanus muttered an apology through a smile, but you barely noticed as your eyes fell over his light skin, his collar bones and muscular shoulders.
The lake was sweet, a nice relief from the constant smell of coal and sweat, the rowdy crowds and the smell of liquor on everyone's breath. Some time later Lucy had swam to shore, helping Aaroa and Tip fish and dig up Katniss' roots.
You floated on your back, the gentle waves lapping at your skin as the sun warmed your face. Coriolanus sat on the edge of the dock, toying with his fingers as he watched you. The wind blew the waves softly, the sun reflecting on your skin like liquid gold. He pushed himself off the dock, slipping below the cold water once again. “Can I hear you sing?” His voice made you turn your head to look at him.
“I don’t sing,” You muttered, turning your head to face the sun again.
“Lucy said you sing.”
You turned to swim properly, treading water. “If you wanna hear someone sing you should ask Lucy,” You insisted. You pushed yourself closer, slipping your fingers under the slim metal chain of his dog tags, untangling the knot. You moved it to hang properly from his neck, your nails dragging ever so slightly across his soft skin.
His icy blue eye moved from your hand on his skin and looked up at your face, droplets of water falling from your hair, and slipping down your skin and when they hit your lips, you swiped them away with your tongue. “I wanna hear you sing.” His eyes snapped up to meet yours as you lifted her gaze from the metal chain.
You chuckled softly and he swore it sounded like the sweetest melody, a honeydew sound that he couldn't help but smile at. “You’re funny Coriolanus Snow,” you said softly. “Turning down the winner of the Hunger Games. A true victor.”
Coriolanus wiped a hand down his face, wiping away the water running over his eyes. “What about you?” He asked.
You shook your head softly. “She’s the star, the songbird,” You insisted, unsure you were convincing him or yourself. His smile made your stomach flip, his gaze made your cheeks burn, but his words… his honey words.
His hand slowly reached out, his fingers slipping beneath the strap of your bra and sliding it back up your shoulder. His hand lingered there for a moment before falling back into the water. “Luckily I like roses.”

Coriolanus Snow was utterly and undeniably fucked. He absolutely was.
He was sure when he had gotten rid of Sejanus, Lucy Gray, and you—that that was the end of it, and no one would hear about it again. After all, the Plinths and Ciceros took in Coriolanus like a son, thanking them for taking such good care of their son and daughter when they couldn’t.
And it wasn’t like Coriolanus Snow was some idiot. He knew how to cover up his tracks, and he knew how to do it good. If there’s one thing about him, it’s that he believes if one truly wants to get rid of something, one should do all in his power to make it happen. And that’s what Coriolanus did. He erased every trace of Lucy Gray Baird and Sejanus, and hopefully, you.
Coriolanus woke up one morning in the Cicero estate feeling extremely cold. He looked outside to see snow, which made his lips quirk up in a sly smile. Your parents were devastated over your death, Mrs. Cicero automatically offering Coriolanus your bedroom because she couldn’t stand her only daughter being gone.
- - -
Coriolanus opens your closet, a walk-in closet that not even the whole District 1 would be able to afford. Gosh, he remembered the first time he was here and you were showing him a pretty short dress that covered nothing, and how he wanted to take you right then and there. He did minutes after, and that short dress was long discarded on the floor.
But now your presence was gone, just your clothes that were still there. Mr. Cicero refused for the maids to get rid of it; he said he wanted to remember his daughter for the lovely fashionable girl she was. Coriolanus looked through your sweaters, much were pink or white, but Corio found a dark blue one that was gender neutral that he liked.
Although it was just polyester, Coriolanus felt chills as he wore it. He swore he took in a whiff of your perfume. How could that have been possible? It was weeks after yours and Sejanus’s death, weeks after he went back to the Capitol with a fake sob story and bloodshot eyes. There was no way—just absolutely no way that your perfume could still be lingering on this old polyester sweater.
Snow gasps. A loud sound hits your window, a bird, he assumes. And as he gets closer, his suspicions are confirmed when he sees a unconscious bird on the floor, with snow melting around it.
Snow melting. Snow. Melting.
Coriolanus needed to get out of his own head. It wasn’t healthy.
He was now an apprentice to Dr. Gaul, a spot that brought him enormous pride. Soon, he’ll take over all of Panem, and make sure any remaining rebels would be expelled, or better yet, executed.
“Hey,”
Was Coriolanus going crazy? He was so sure he heard your voice in the trees, just right outside your estate. Mrs. Cicero, your mother, had expressed how much you liked planting, and it was evident from the amount of tall bark trees littering around the entire home.
In the lab, Dr. Gaul was teaching Coriolanus how to be gentle with the snakes so he wouldn’t get bitten like poor Clemensia had before the 10th Hunger Games even started. He thought she was long dead by now, but she had came to him a few weeks prior yelling about how she can’t believe he never visited her in the hospital. Coriolanus didn’t outright tell her—but he saw fading scales all over her neck. The turtleneck wasn’t doing her any good.
“Alright, here you go,” Dr. Gaul says gently, handing Coriolanus one of the longer snakes. He looked into its eyes, and was horrified to see your eyes stare back at him. He shrieked, flapping the snake into the air and blinking a few times to make sure he wasn’t going crazy.
“What is wrong with you Mr. Snow?!” Dr. Gaul asks, astonished by her star pupil’s behavior.
He only gulps, excusing himself home early that day.
- - -
“Oh Corio, I wanted you to have this,” Mr. Cicero approached him as he sat in front of your giant vanity. He was holding a few printed photographs of you and Coriolanus, huddled up together, looking as cute of a couple as ever. He remembered those moments, where you were smiling like crazy as you looked up at him with the doe eyes he seem to have been missing lately. “You know my daughter really loved you. And I’m not a man of many words—but I want to thank you for being there for her. She loved you so much she begged me to let her go to district 12 to be with you and Sejanus again. I hate the way things happened, but at least I know she was loved by you.”
And slowly, Snow starts to crack.
When the Ciceros had fallen asleep, he lit the fireplace, watching as the fire slowly get taller. He takes one good look at the photographs, then throws them in with the flames. He gave his blood, sweat, and tears for this moment. To finally be in a huge estate, to be with loving parents, to be an apprentice to the most important doctor in the Capitol. He deserved this. He did. He gave up his best friend, he gave up his own tribute, Lucy Gray—not that she mattered or anything because Coriolanus established a clear line in his head that she was simply just a district scum who was lucky enough to win because of him. And lastly, he gave up his girlfriend, Y/N Cicero, you, for this.
Coriolanus Snow was not going to let anything get in the way of his goal.
- - -
The next week, Coriolanus suggests the Ciceros throw a party to memorialize you. Coriolanus thinks of this big, grand, emotional speech. He’ll tell everyone how much of a sweetheart you were, how much you two were inlove. Then he’d get stern—saying that he’ll make sure your death won’t be forgotten, especially when he plans on running for president soon.
Everyone claps, so infatuated with the way he speaks. It’s cause he lies; straight from his mouth.
“I know what you did.”
The trees speak to Coriolanus in hushed violent murmurs, almost as if they were mad at him. They spoke in riddles, but sometimes they’d just outright say what Coriolanus had done.
“You killed them. You killed them all.”
“Blood is on your hands.”
“Snow bleeds red.”
And it frustrates Snow. It’s something, for once, that he can’t control. It sickens him that he’s unable to anything about the trees.
- - -
Mr. and Mrs. Cicero die a year later. Rebel bombing, they assumed. But only Coriolanus knew that it wasn’t—that it was him, and because he was like a son to them for the past year, he was under their will, meaning he got the entire estate.
He ran for president with the Cicero family name, and with their money too.
Coriolanus marries Livia Cardew. He doesn’t like her, much less tolerate her, but she was a good asset. Just a trophy hanging from his arm.
And Livia didn’t mind, she knew Snow was incapable of loving her, and she had an itching feeling it had something to do with you.
But Livia loved you when she was friends with you at the Academy, so she doesn’t bat an eye when Coriolanus mumbles out your name while they’re having sex. In fact, Coriolanus refused to touch or look at Livia unless he was under enormous pressure and needed someone—no something—to get his anger out on. Livia always took the blows, but she was still grateful that she hadn’t married Fetus, because that—that wouldn’t have been pretty.
The first thing Snow does as president is cut down the trees. The forests and woods? Well he burned them all. He didn’t like the cat and mouse chase that Lucy Gray had played on him in the woods, so he figured getting rid of them was like finally erasing you from his brain. No more Sejanus Plinth, no more Lucy Gray Baird, and fucking finally, finally!—no more Y/N Cicero.
But Coriolanus made a slight error. Because 64 years later, his ex lover comes back to haunt him, only this time, in the form of a girl from District 12, Katniss Everdeen.

You'd be lying if you pretended not to be invested in the 10th Hunger Games. With Academy students participating this year, you had no choice but to follow the competition's every twist and turn, but even if it had been different, you'd have still tuned in from your home's television screen.
Despite the heated exchanges and angry words directed at Coriolanus, your best wishes were always with him. You genuinely hoped for nothing but the best for him, believing he'd achieve the deserved success he'd strived for and reach his craved scholarship, a gateway to boundless opportunities. In your heart, you rooted for Lucy Gray Baird's victory, as that seemed to be the only path leading to Coriolanus's dreams coming true.
Seeing Coriolanus each day in his perfectly fitted Academy uniform, hiding behind a facade of indifference that he never pull off around anyone outside his inner circle, playing the part of the model student, brought you pain. He gave off the impression that your past relationship had left no mark on him, leaving you in the dark about his true emotions and what was going on within his mind for the first time.
You were aware that everyone in your class had picked up on the shift between you and Coriolanus, though they tactfully avoided discussing it openly. You appreciated their silent understanding; no one was prying, and it allowed you to avoid discussing the painful change that had taken place. You didn't owe anyone an explanation, but it was easier to bear the weight of the situation when it remained unspoken. It stung to know that some girl from the District now held a more important place in your boyfriend's heart than you, someone he had known since childhood and shared the darkest moments of his life with.
The breakup with Coriolanus hit you like someone’s death. When you returned to the family penthouse, tears flowed endlessly from your eyes, and you couldn't seem to stop them. The persistent crying left you dehydrated, lying on your bed, cocooned in a blanket, your eyes red and swollen, and a pounding headache. The idea of consuming even a morsel of food felt impossible, and every inch of your room was a constant reminder of the moments you had shared with Coriolanus.
At times, you really wanted to approach him, to take the blame, to apologize for reacting hastily and to tell him that you should have let him handle things. But he treated you as if you were transparent. He had to feel your gaze on him, yet he chose to act as if you didn't exist, focusing all his attention on the Arena's broadcast screens, eagerly awaiting Lucy Gray's appearance.
As soon as the victory of the tribute from the Twelfth District became evident, you leaped to your feet, a genuine smile lighting up your face. Joining in the cheers and applause of your friends, you felt an urge to rush towards Coriolanus, but the memory of his distant gaze held you back. You knew you were no longer part of his happiness, no longer someone he wanted to share joy with.
With a lump in your throat, you discreetly cleared it, glancing around at other students. They seemed too absorbed in their own celebrations to notice your abrupt outburst. And so, you continued clapping, though the enthusiasm had waned, and the smile on your lips had dimmed.
You watched as Festus and a few other students hoisted Coriolanus onto a chair and paraded him around the podium and when they eventually placed him back on the ground, he turned his gaze toward you for the first time since your break up.
It was a brief look, lacking the joy in his eyes from seconds ago, but tinged with sense of satisfaction. It was a satisfaction born from the unexpected outcome, a result opposite to your wish for him to lose.
Afterward, all the students were directed into the dining hall to celebrate Coriolanus's victory with cake and posca.
And no longer after, the boy simply disappeared, slipping away from the festivities.

As the final echoes of the Games' noisy cheers faded away, an unsettling silence descended upon the Capitol, and your mind was left in a whirlwind of questions and concern. The explanation provided by the Academy for Coriolanus's sudden departure to one of the districts, where he was enlisting for as a Peacekeeper, seemed like an ill-fitting puzzle piece in his life.
You knew Coriolanus better than most, his ambitions, his dreams, his unrelenting pursuit of victory. This decision, so out of character, scratched at the corners of your consciousness like an itch you couldn't quite reach. The nagging sense that something was amiss and missing from the narrative was an ever-present companion, casting a shadow over your thoughts.
But the mystery didn't end with his sudden departure. The day following the Games' conclusion, it was as if someone had meticulously wiped away any trace of the event's existence. Records, footage, and even the very name Lucy Gray Baird were methodically excised from history's pages. The thoroughness of this situation left you in a state of bewildered disbelief. The memories and echoes of the Games, once so vivid, now seemed to have been cast into a gap of forgotten time.
Your mind was a whirlwind of questions, each one clamoring for answers, but you knew that the truth was hidden beyond your reach. In all of these Capitol secrets, you had no choice but to accept the narrative spun by Doctor Gaul and Dean Highbottom, even if it left you feeling like a mere puppet, dancing to their tune.
You just clung to the belief that Coriolanus was out there, safe, and somehow untouched by the Capitol's ominous machinations. You didn't know the real reason for his leaving, but thoughts of his comfort were your only solace.
You longed to see him again, not only because of the warmth of his presence, but also because of the secrets he could hold. Yet, deep down, you knew that even if he were to find his way back to the heart of Panem, you would likely be the last person on his list to seek out.
On a day that was just like any other, as the Capitol went about its business, you found yourself outside your penthouse. It was just another moment in your everyday routine, all you wanted was to go for a walk, enjoying the last few days before university starts, unaware of things that were about to happen.
You were lost in thought, just looking around the familiar place when suddenly, someone stepped into view and your heart stopped for what seemed like a split second. It was Coriolanus, no doubt about it, but he had changed more than you could have imagined. He used to have those distinctive curls, but now, his hair was much shorter. His whole presence felt more reserved. Even the way he carried himself seemed different from what you were used to. Something about his aura had shifted, and it was not the same energy you once knew, not even the one he usually projected to others. It was a subtle change, but it was there.
Upon realizing that he was heading towards your shared building, a mix of emotions surged within you. Surprise and happiness due to the sight of the person you had missed so intensely warred with the memories of his abrupt departure, and the months of estrangement.
As he drew closer, you couldn't help but hope for a friendly reunion. You wanted to forget the past and bridge the distance that had grown between the two of you, but the Coriolanus who now stood before you was colder, more distant than ever before.
His eyes, which once held warmth and familiarity when they met yours, now seemed to pass right through you, leaving you with an unsettling sense that the Coriolanus you once knew had changed into a stranger.
“Coryo?” you cautiously greeted him as he drew closer, employing the affectionate diminutive form of his name. “I didn't expect to meet you here.”
Your friendly approach fell upon a wall of silence, an awkward pause hanging heavily between you. The air seemed thick with unresolved tension, and you questioned whether you should have simply pretended not to notice him.
“Dean Highbottom mentioned that you departed for Twelve to join the Peacekeepers,” you continued, attempting to engage him in conversation. Your gaze remained intent on his, even as his bored expression showed little sign of interest. This was undoubtedly one of the most awkward moments of your life, and the hope of a warm reunion was fading with each passing second.
You couldn't help but inquire further, “Was it because of Lucy Gray?”
Upon the mention of the tribute girl's name, a subtle shift occurred in Coriolanus's demeanor. He raised his head slightly, his gaze narrowing and his jaw clenching. The unexpected reaction baffled you, and a crease of confusion formed between your brows as you tried to comprehend his change in demeanor.
“Lucy Gray is gone,” he stated, his words dripping with coldness and arrogance, once again underscoring the transformation in his character. The warmth and compassion that had once defined your interactions now felt like distant memories, leaving you in the stark shadow of your shared past.
“Gone?” you repeated. His statement was quite confusing, and you struggled to grasp its meaning.
Without offering any clarification, he continued his stride towards the building's entrance, as if your presence had become irrelevant to him. Desperate for answers that had slipped away form you for far too long, you reached out and gently grasped the sleeve of his shirt to stop him.
“Coryo, wait,” you begged, looking into his eyes for a flicker of the person you used to know. The frigid stare he returned sent a chill through your spine, but your curiosity pushed you forward. “What happened? After... well, after you disappeared.”
His gaze dipped to where your fingers held on to his shirt, and the tension between you grew palpable. When you finally let go, his eyes met yours once more, and he spoke in a voice that held a hint of gentleness. “Do you really want to know what happened?” he asked, tilting his head to the side. He maintained his distance, standing tall and appearing to gaze down at you.
You didn't particularly like this version of Coriolanus, but at the same time you couldn't back down now; you had yearned for this moment for months.
In response to his question, you offered a simple nod, a silent invitation for him to share. The silence hung between you, heavy and full of unspoken emotions. Coriolanus glanced around, checking for any unwelcome listeners nearby, before answering.
“I've been through a living hell,” he responded curtly, leaving a trail of unresolved questions lingering in the air, but before you could voice these unspoken thoughts, he continued.
“I was forced to follow relentless orders each day, enduring the scorching sun that left burns on my skin, and the agony of taking three lives,” he recounted, as if each experience weighed equally on his conscience. “And those damn songbirds... they're a nightmare. They can drive you to the brink of insanity.”
You sought answers in his eyes, searching for any glimmer of the person you had known, but what you found was far from the warmth and compassion you remembered. It was as if something within him had been replaced by a hint of disdain.
“She betrayed me,” he continued, his voice carrying the weight of bitter disappointment, before you had time to sort out the chaos in your head. “Just when I thought I could escape it all and start a new life without constantly looking over my shoulder, she chose to abandon me.”
“What do you mean, Coryo?” you questioned, your forehead creased with worry as you gazed into his eyes.
“I killed Sejanus Plinth,” he confessed. Your lips parted in shock, and without realizing it, you instinctively moved a step away, creating a physical gap between you and someone who had once been an open book. Now, it felt as though you knew nothing about him.
You had heard rumors of Sejanus Plinth's death, but the details were murky. The nature of Coriolanus and Sejanus's relationship had always been a subject of speculation, leaving people to wonder whether they were genuine friends or just collagues. Coriolanus had occasionally expressed his frustration with Sejanus to you, but you had never imagined he would go as far as to take such a drastic step.
Coriolanus seemed oblivious to your reaction, his words continuing in a torrent of frustration. “But he deserved it. He could have listened to me and followed the rules for once. Instead, he chose to be a rebel, wanting to play the savior of the districts. That's how rebels end up,” his words were like shards of ice, driven by a wrath you had never seen in him before.
“I killed people who threatened her. I killed those who could be dangerous to Lucy Gray,” Coriolanus murmured. You gazed into his empty eyes as he continued and a sense of dread creeped over you. “And in return, she betrayed me, willing to see me suffer the same fate as Sejanus,” he said with a heavy sigh, shaking his head. “I couldn't let that happen. I couldn't risk being caught when I was mere hours away from leaving this wretched district.”
Your world seemed to crumble under the weight of his shocking confession. The inhumanity of his actions left you speechless, but Coriolanus appeared unaffected by your stunned silence.
He took a step closer, diminishing the gap between you, and you fought the urge to move back or look away from his piercing eyes.
“I'll make them all pay for it,” he declared with a small, unsettling smirk tugging at his lips. There was something in that expression that scared you, and now you were sure the boy standing in front of you was not the Coriolanus you had grown up with. “Every last one of them,” he added, presumably referring to the district residents with disdain.
With those words hanging in the air, he turned and disappeared behind the door of the apartment building, leaving you in a state of confusion and fear.
Many times, as you lay in bed at night, you often found yourself imagining the chance to see Coriolanus again. You wished that somehow, things could go back to the way they used to be, and that the warmth you once shared might return. But, the version of the man you just had a chance to look in the eyes filled you with nothing but fear now.
He seemed colder than his very name.

64 YEARS LATER
The underground room was dimly lit, the soft glow of a single overhead bulb casting elongated shadows on the faces gathered around the table. Maps, documents, and a tactical board cluttered the space, a visual representation of the Rebellion's intricate plans. The tension in the room was palpable, and when you walked in with a woman who bore a striking resemblance to a tiger in her appearance, the rebels shared uncertain, questioning looks.
Katniss, her unmistakable braided hair and fierce gaze, was the first to break the silence. Her voice cut through the tension like a blade, “Why are you doing this?”
Her eyes bore into yours with a mix of curiosity and concern, and you felt a dozen pairs of eyes in the room fixate on you. “Risking your life to help us take down Snow?”
You inhaled a quivering breath when the memories and thoughts weighing heavily upon your chest. In your mind, a series of images flashed – a time when Snow had been had been a very different person. You paused for a moment, your thoughts returning to the Coriolanus you had once been so familiar with. The recollection painted a vivid picture of Coryo as you remembered him: his charming smile, which he had once reserved solely for you, and his distinctive, curly hair.
“I'm doing this,” you began, your voice tinged with pain and longing, “because I used to know him very well.” You deliberately used the diminutive form of his name that had once been so familiar to you, “Coryo. We were close, once.”
The room fell silent, and a myriad of emotions passed over the faces of those assembled. Your words seemed to have caught them off guard, and you could sense their curiosity and concern.
“We were in a relationship, but he's not the person I once loved anymore. This Snow, the one we're fighting against now, is a monster. He's not the Coryo I knew. He deserves the worst.”
Peeta, who sat beside Katniss, let out a sigh, and his eyes held a profound understanding. His gaze, a clear blue in the dim light, softened as he looked at you.
“Sometimes people change,” Peeta said, his voice gentle. “I've seen it happen before.”
Katniss's expression hardened with resolve, her determination unwavering. “He's going to regret everything he has done in his life,” she said.
As Katniss's words hung in the air, you felt a wave of knotty emotions churning within you. Your gaze drifted downward to the shelter's dirt floor, where the tears welled up in your eyes, threatening to overflow. For years, you had yearned for justice to be served to Coriolanus, for him to face the consequences of his oppressive rule over Panem. It had been a sincere desire, one that had simmered in your heart, yet now, with the Rebellion's cause so close to success, you found yourself grappling with a bewildering conflict.
Coriolanus had long disregarded you, deeming you unworthy of his attention and companionship. He had tear your connection, but it didn't mean that you had forgotten the feelings you had once for him.
It was his treatment of those who still loved him, the suffering of his cousin Tigris, who had been a close friend of yours, that weighed on your heart. She had selflessly helped Coriolanus throughout the war, supported him during his first mentorship and long after, but his attitude toward her changed with each passing year, and you couldn't understand why.
Over the years, Coriolanus had allowed the Hunger Games to evolve into something even more grotesque and brutal, making even bigger spectacle out of the tributes' deaths. It had been a source of disgust, a reflection of his growing cruelty. You were repulsed by the Capitol, sickened by Snow's insatiable thirst for power and the desire to see him removed from his seat of authority had been a driving force.
Yet, something within you was blocking your resolve, sowing seeds of doubt and uncertainty. The conflict within your heart was a huge storm, with one part pulling you toward the rebellion and the other tethered to a past that still held the remains of the Coriolanus you had once known, loved, and miss.
But that boy from your youth was a distant memory, swallowed by the Coriolanus who had emerged over the years, especially during his time in the Twelfth District shortly after his victory in the Games.
You raised your eyes to meet Katniss's, and in that moment, your mind drifted to Lucy Gray Baird, an ironic twist of fate that wasn't lost on you.
As Katniss observed your internal struggle, her sharp instincts sensed that there was more to your hesitancy than met the eye. She furrowed her brows, her gaze unwavering, and asked, “Is there something else you would like to share?”
Peeta, who had been observing you quietly, echoed her concern with a compassionate look in his eyes. His gentle tone conveyed understanding as he said, “You can talk to us, you know. We've all had our reasons for joining this fight.”
Your throat felt constricted, and you struggled to find your voice amidst the chaos of emotions. With a hurried swallow and a deep breath to steady yourself, you cleared your throat and shook your head. You offered a smile, though it felt forced and inadequate for the gravity of the moment, as you moved closer to the table filled with scattered papers.
“So what’s the plan?” you asked, attempting to shift the focus away from you. Your eyes darted around the faces of those gathered around the tabletop, eager to immerse yourself in the cause, to be part of the solution to the crisis at hand.

Coriolanus knew that winning the Hunger Games was impossible with Lucy Gray as his tribute. She could sing well and get any crowd to flaunt over her. She could care for those around her and get everyone and everything to fall for her charms. But, she couldn’t fight if she wanted to.
This led to Coriolanus sitting at his desk, eyes flickering between his father’s photo, a photograph of him as a baby with his mother, and a framed picture of him and you, looking at each other with pure adoration. He let a small smile slip through his messy thoughts, focusing on you. He loved everything about you.
Thus, he knew what he had to do to win for you and for his family. Even if it meant playing dirty. Even if it meant toying with another’s emotions.
“Lucy Gray,” Coriolanus whispered into the darkness, looking around the Capitol Zoo’s cage. “Lucy Gray!”
“You’re alive.” Lucy Gray whispered as she came over, gripping the iron bars.
“Hey, those bombs? They have changed everything.” He started, determined to get his plan through. “They blew the walls out, so that means you can escape up in the stands. There’s a hole down in the floor,” He flickered his eyes to her lips and back up to her eyes. “Leads down to some tunnels. I’ve tried it, you can disappear down there.”
She nodded, letting him clasp his hand over her own.
“So, the moment you hear that bell ring, you ignore the weapons in the middle and run, as fast as you can for that hole.” He spoke with urgency, squeezing her hand. “And you find a place to hide down below. Alone.”
“Alone? No, Jessup’s my friend.”
“No. The moment that bell rings, you can’t trust anyone, not even Jessup.” His eyes wander the rest of the enclosure. “Just lay low down there until it’s safe to come out.”
Lucy Gray shook her head in appreciation, looking between his eyes. “Thank you for taking care of me.”
“I can’t let you die. I saved you.” Coriolanus got closer to her, face merely a few centimeters away. “I saved you once, I’m not risking it again.”
A tear fell down her face, “I’m sorry. I’m more hopeful during the daytime, but when it gets dark…”
“It’s okay.” He wiped her face off with his father’s handkerchief, ensuring she was focused on him. “It’s okay. I am going to get you out here. I promise.” He smiles, “Back to the Covey.”
Lucy Gray studied his face. All she saw was true intentions. After a few beats, she leaned in for a kiss, one she somehow needed from the male presented in front of her.
And he let her.
Coriolanus Snow let Lucy Gray Baird kiss him. He let one hand reach to lightly cup her cheek, deepening the kiss ever so slightly.
He knew it was wrong. So wrong. But, he only did it for you.
I’m sorry.
“Is this real?” He asks her after separating, regret filling his mind. “Just tell me, if I’m going to risk everything… That song—“
I’m so sorry, beautiful. I promise I’ll make it up to you, I promise. I’m so sorry.
“That song was payback, that’s all.” Lucy Gray cut him off, shaking her head. “My old boyfriend, Billy Taupe, he was cheating on me with the mayor’s daughter.”
I don’t love her. I love you.
“The girl from the reaping?”
“Yeah, she got crazy jealous. She had her Pa read my name up on that stage. And now everyone will know what they did to me.” She lifted her chin up.
“Yeah.” Coriolanus reached into his shirt, grabbing his mother’s compact. “Take this.”
“No. No, it’s too fine—“
“It’s not a gift. It’s a loan.” He grabbed her hands, squeezing them. “What’s in here, don’t touch it. Don’t even breathe it in because small amounts can be deadly.” He took her chin gently, forcing her to look at him. “Look, I can see what war does to people, okay? I’ve seen it. And there will come a time when you need this when you need to act. We all do things we’re not proud of to survive.” Coriolanus planted one last kiss on her lips, shutting his eyes.
This is all for you, beautiful, I promise. I’m sorry.
“Hey? We are going to win this, Lucy Gray.” He rubbed her cheek, wiping one last tear. “We are going to win this together.”
Tumblr media
With final hugs and kisses from Grandma’am and Tigris, Coriolanus left the penthouse with an unbalanced conscience and the smallest possible amount of hope of winning the Tenth Annual Hunger Games. He was going to pick you up and then walk toward the Citadel where he was to be watching his tribute along with his peers, but the Lovett car was waiting right outside; Your tinted window rolled down with your head resting in your arm.
He did a quick jog over to you — despite the slight limp he had — and bent over to peck your lips. “Aren’t you a wonderful surprise?”
“Good morning, Coryo.” You return the gesture two more times, smiling. He stood there for a minute, admiring you before you spoke again. “Are you just going to stand there? Or do you want to get in the car?”
He shook his head at you and got inside, rolling the window up and shutting the divider between the driver and the backseats. “I was heading out to get you, my love.”
You shrug, letting yourself sink into the comfort of his arms. “Do you want me to leave? I can leave you here and let you come pick me up—”
“Don’t you dare leave me.” He locks you in his embrace. “Anywhere we go, you stay with me, remember?”
You hum and peck his jaw. “I know.”
Coriolanus smiles at your action tilting his head to meet your lips. He stared into your eyes, a smile etching its way onto his face. “What if we do something fun?”
“Hm, when?” You ask in between kisses, letting him bring you closer.
“Right now.” He brings a hand up to your cheek, pushing you slightly. “We have time.”
“Do we?” You wrap your arms behind his neck and wrap your finger around his curls, tugging softly. “I think we have twenty minutes.”
“Perfect.” He grinned, holding you close as you both fell on top of the backseat, an airy laugh coming from you. “Just enough time.”
The car ride was filled with Coriolanus’ desire to prove his worth of loving you, despite you not knowing what he had even done earlier that morning. Sadly, both of you did not take into account how short twenty minutes truly were.
“Miss Lovett? We’ve arrived at the Capitol’s Citadel.” Your driver knocked on the divider, shifting the car gear into park.
Coriolanus watched as your eyes widened, chuckling as a planted one last kiss on your lips.
“Thank you! We’ll be out soon!” You quickly reply and push your boyfriend off of you, sifting through the discarded clothes in the small space. “It would be nice if you helped and got dressed, Coryo.”
“Right.” He murmured, squeezing your hips.
Without fail, you both got dressed as swiftly as possible. You rubbed light lipstick stains of Coriolanus while he straightened out your blazer and top, adjusting it just right to cover the newly formed bruises across your collarbone.
After checking each other one last time, Coriolanus stepped out of the vehicle, waving to the cars waiting behind as a way to make peace with them. He set his hand out to guide you onto the concrete, nodding to your driver as you made it.
“Are you sure I look fine?” You ask with worry laced in your tone, looking across the area filled with Academy rouge.
“You look beautiful.” He linked your arms together and lowered his head to yours, kissing the side. “Thank god for your tinted windows, hm?”
“We’re done with this conversation now.” You reach for your necklace, face flushed. He chuckled at you before silence took over, only the shuffles from you and others emerged.
“Clemmie visited me yesterday.” You look up at him, tilting your head.
“She did?” Coriolanus questioned you, glancing over. “How is she?”
“She’s okay… She won’t be participating as a mentor anymore.” You look around before continuing, voice almost in a whisper. “She said Dr. Gaul was trying to kill her.”
“What?” He almost asked in disbelief.
“Coryo, she had scales appearing on her skin.” You shiver as you recall the memory. “It’s awful.”
“I’m sure Dr. Gaul didn’t want to kill her. I think she just wanted to frighten her.”
You look at him, confusion creeping onto your face as you enter the main viewing and seating area. “By letting her creations bite Clemmie? That’s not—“
“That friend of yours, Plinth,” Dean Highbottom interrupts your conversation, causing you both to whip your heads around to him. “You might want to find him a seat near the door.”
Coriolanus gave him a curt nod and led you down the stairs toward where the rest of the Academy mentors were stationed.
“What was that about?” You mutter, body close to his as he has his hand around your waist.
“I don’t know.”
You hum, flickering your eyes to the press and reporters stationed in every corner of the room, not forgetting the cameras that would focus in on Flickerman and the mentors’ reactions.
“Coryo. Y/N.” Sejanus calls out from Coriolanus’ right, making you both head in his direction.
Coriolanus flexes his hand on your waist, “Hey.”
“How’re you doing? You guys alright?” The young Plinth asks politely, squeezing your arm.
“We’re doing better.” You give him a small smile.
“Look over here please.” A photographer held his camera in front of the three of you, chasing your conversation to be cut off once more.
Coriolanus tightens his hold on your waist as you lean into him with one arm wrapped around his torso whilst the other includes Sejanus. The blond let a small smirk come across his face, you let a camera smile take over, and Sejanus kept a neutral face, capturing the essence of different Capitol students.
After the flashing of the camera, the photographer left, your smile fading and Coriolanus’ smirk dropping.
“Alright, later.” Sejanus nods a bye to the both of you, heading to his designated station.
“I’ll catch up with you later, okay?” Coriolanus tilted his head down to yours as the music announcing the start of the live stream began.
“M’kay.” You push on your tippy toes and peck his lips. “Love you, good luck.”
“I love you more.” He placed a chaste kiss to your lips then your temple.
Lucretius Flickerman began directing everyone on how they should behave, scolding Festus for not already being in his seat. Your leg bounced up and down as Flickerman continued his spiel, eyeing the screen with the bright letters reading THE HUNGER GAMES.
The livestream started and eyes immediately found Dill who was with Wovey and Lucy Gray, each being escorted by Peacekeepers. Your heart started to beat faster as her Peacekeeper pushed her with his rifle, shoving her over to her marker.
“Stay with Reaper.” You mumble as the camera view switches to the other tributes, clutching your silver rose in your hand.
The view then pans over to a District Three tribute, zooming in on her coughing, panicked state. She seemed to be staring at something in the arena that put her in such distress.
Finally, the camera finally shifts to what the girl is staring at making you silently gasp. The District Two tribute — Marcus — was tied up against two fallen concrete poles, the sight staying on the screen far longer than anyone would have liked.
“Oo, Marcus.” Flickerman looked back into the camera stationed inside the Citadel. “Guess we can all sleep better now knowing that he’s off the streets.”
You flinched when Sejanus stood and threw his desk across the front, screaming toward everyone watching the live and those inside the building.
“You’re monsters! All of you!” He yells as his eyes become glassy. Sejanus storms out of the room, your eyes following him in sorrow. You knew that Sejanus was friends with Marcus, so the heartache was just worse.
The host starts his countdown, his voice echoing throughout the room.
“Stay put.” You whisper as the horn blares, watching as the camera angles switch every few seconds. You blow out a breath when Reaper comes over to protect Dill, shutting your eyes knowing she is safe.
The bloodbath left 13 tributes left, Dill and Lucy Gray remaining. Truly you wanted Dill to get out alive, but how could she if Reaper was helping?
Would there always be one winner?
Tumblr media
“Can I leave?” You ask Dean Highbottom as he walks behind you, fidgeting with the buttons on your desk. “I’ll be right back.”
“No one is stopping you, Miss Lovett.” He gestures.
You nod, standing and making your way over to Coriolanus. You run your hand from one of his shoulders to the other, bending down to his ear. “I’ll be back, Coryo. I’m starving.”
His eyes never leave the screen as he takes your hand, kissing the back of it. “Bring me something, yeah?”
“Sure.” You frown, hoping he would have gotten up to at least stretch.
You left the room and you headed to the dining area right outside, scanning the different food options for the day. Taking into account that you would most likely be staying inside the Citadel for much longer, you opted for the filling foods — also known as pasta.
“Y/N.” Sejanus finds you, a surprised look appearing on his face for a split second. “What are you doing here?”
“Getting food.” You say although it sounded more like a question. “What are you doing here?”
“I didn’t want to head home. I feel like it would be worse to deal with everything.” He crosses his arms, following you to a table. “Anything else happened while I left?”
You shake your head, taking a sip from your water. “Just the same things. I’m not sure anything else would surprise you too much with what happened.”
Sejanus hums, sinking down into his chair. “Are you… Are you really okay with the games happening? I mean, I know it can’t be easy watching all those deaths happen.”
Looking around the dining area before responding, you lower your voice. “I despise the games, Sej. Everything I said to Dr. Gaul was all for show, but I don’t have any power here. I’m just a woman in the Capitol. The only ones with power are those higher up.”
“I’m not asking you to stop the games right now. But would you join a rebellion against the Capitol, defending those living in the Districts?”
You search his eyes, “I don’t know. I don’t want to cause another war. You know how bad it was…”
“I know, I know. But imagine if we won? The games would be over and no child would ever have to go through this. Not a Capitol student nor a District child.” He sat up straighter and clasped his hands together, looking at you with seriousness. “Just— I can’t go through another game, flower. You know it best.”
“I know.” You look down, playing with your food. Suddenly, you had lost your appetite. “What would the plan exactly be, Sej? You can’t just go through with this with no plan.”
The smallest smile stretches across his face, “I can’t tell you. Only if you agree to help take down the games and such.”
You bite the inside of your cheek, “Sejanus, this is a dangerous game you’re playing.”
“It only takes one action to change something, Y/N.” He sighs.
You let silence take over, glancing around the dining area and meeting Dr. Gaul’s piercing eyes, staring dead straight at you. She gave you her signature sinister grin, nodding at you in acknowledgment. You give her a wry smile, tilting your head back down to the table.
“I have to go.” You mutter, pushing yourself out of the seat, and rush back to the viewing room — not before grabbing Coriolanus’ favorite snack.
Tumblr media
As night fell over Panem, almost everyone left the Capitol’s Citadel. The only ones left were you and Coriolanus. You fell asleep at your station waiting for Coriolanhs while he fell asleep waiting for something to happen inside the arena. All the lights were shut down and the bright screen at the very front changed from its original design to the game footage again, Dr. Gaul took quick steps over to where Coriolanus was sleeping.
“Mr. Snow.” Dr Gaul stood before the male, Coriolanus immediately waking up from his seat.
He looked at her stone face, creasing his brows. “What happened? Is it Lucy Gray?”
“Unless you can put a leash on your deluded classmate, she might as well be dead as far as you’re concerned.” She leaned against his computer and shifted so he could see the screen encasing Sejanus inside the arena.
“Sejanus?” He whispers out.
“Bread crumbs.” She scoffed at the District-made Capitol boy. “I believe sustenance for a fallen comrade on his final journey. A District Two superstition.” She held the computer screen again and faced Coriolanus. “I’ll work on finding the Peacekeeper he bribed to get him in, and cut out their tongue. In the meantime, I need someone to get him out right now.”
Coriolanus averts his gaze to his left, “You should send Peacekeepers in.”
“Only to have him bolt and hide like a rabbit? Felix Ravinstill is fighting for his life in the hospital, Mr. Snow.” Dr. Gaul catches his look toward your sleeping figure. “I will not have these rebels make a further mockery of my Games. Anyone sees us lose control of this arena, it might as well be sounding a horn to the districts to revolt.” She spits out. “You choose to be friends with this radical. You want him to end the Games tonight?”
“It’ll look a lot worse if the tributes kill two of us.” He spoke with confidence, not wanting to enter the area.
“Would you rather have your flower get him instead Or rather the both of you? It seems as if Sejanus cares an awful lot more about her than you. They did have a good chat in the dining room while you stayed here to watch the games.” She says as a twinge of jealousy and fury passes through Coriolanus’ features.
She hums at him, “Who knows? If you get him out unscathed, I’ll whisper your name in his father’s ear. You still want that Plinth Prize, don’t you? I’ll freeze the feed for an hour. I estimate that’s all we have until the people notice.”
Dr. Gaul gave him one last look before leaving the vicinity to freeze the video. Coriolanus waited until she left to go to you, softly shaking you awake.
“Beautiful?”
You hum, still half-asleep.
“You need to get up and go home, my love.” Coriolanus took your face in his hands and rubbed your cheek, needing you to wake up.
“Why?” You mumbled. “I’ll be fine here.”
“No, you’ll be here alone. I don’t want you to be.” He kissed your head. “Come on.”
“Why won’t you stay?”
“I have to get Sejanus out of the arena.” He muttered, making your eyes go wide.
You look over at the screen, watching Sejanus kneel by his fallen friend. “Why is he in there?”
“It doesn’t matter, but he’ll die if I don’t get him out,” Coriolanus spoke with a strict voice, sending an odd feeling to your stomach. “I need you to go home, beautiful.”
“No! I won’t let you go in there, Coryo.” You stand now, grabbing his arm like he would leave any second. “Why can’t someone else do it?”
“Dr. Gaul—“
You roll your eyes, “Are you seriously going in there just because she told you to?”
“She threatened to send you in there.” He whisper-shouted at you, almost as if there were people around to watch. “Now listen and go home, Y/N.”
You crease your brows and scoff, pushing away from him as you leave the Citadel. Coriolanus shook his head at you, but left, heading toward the arena to get Sejanus out.
But of course, you were stubborn enough to not listen and follow him closely to the arena. The Peacekeepers wouldn’t let you go inside, but they did let you wait until they came out.
“Open the gate! Open the gate!”
You heard Coriolanus’ scream from inside the arena, making you whip your head toward the Peacekeepers. He ran faster at your figure being present, quickly engulfing your body as he made it out of the arena, protecting you. Coral’s pitchfork hit the metal bars, making the both of you flinch at the noise.
“Coriolanus!” You grab his face in your hands, scanning his features. “Are you okay? I didn’t—”
“What are you doing here?” He spoke through his teeth, taking in sharp breaths. “I told you to go home.”
“I couldn’t just leave you, Coryo.” You frown, your eyes are glassy at the way he breathed heavily and his dirtied figure. “Everywhere we go, I stay with you.”
“You are horribly headstrong, my love.” He leaned his forehead on yours, shutting his eyes.
“Watch those screens, gorgeous,” Coral says as she bangs the pitchfork on the gates. “ ‘Cause I may have missed you tonight, but your songbird’s next on my list.”
She left as you stood holding your boyfriend’s face, still searching him for any injuries.
“Where did you get hurt?” You murmur as he winces at the sudden pain he received after the rush disappeared. He reached for his back, pressing on the wound he obtained from inside. You take his hand and remove it from damaging the wound any further.
“I’m… I’m sorry. Coryo, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.” Sejanus repeated from his knelt position. “For all of it…”
You give him a sad look, running your hand up and down Coriolanus’ arm. “It’s not your fault, Sejanus.”
“It’s all my fault.” He shook his head. “I’m so sorry.” The sound of car doors opening catches your attention, Strabo Plinth and his wife stepping out. “My father… Let the buying begin.”
Sejanus’ mother rushed over to him, bringing him into an embrace as they exchanged words. Strabo Plinth nodded in your and Coriolanus’ direction before Peacekeepers grabbed the both of you.
Dr. Gaul had a car waiting for him at the front of the arena, sending him over to the laboratory. Coriolanus made sure you tagged along for two reasons.
One, he had to make sure you were safe now that it was really late. Two, he was far more distraught that he murdered a tribute, needing your around for comfort.
You held Coriolanus’ jacket as he held your free hand, rubbing circles to calm himself as you entered the Gamemaker’s building.
“Snow stormed down. Down in his head. It stormed down on his head. And now the boy is dead.” Dr. Gaul spoke from her desk, hands put together as she spotted the two of you. She chuckled, “You’ve had enough of the games tonight, I see. Come sit, I’ll stitch you up.”
“You should go home now.” Coriolanus turned to you, taking his jacket from your arm.
“No.” You insist, standing your ground. “I can’t. Not after what happened inside—“
“Beautiful, go home. Don’t worry about me.” He stroked your cheek, his eyes glassy this time. “Promise me you’ll go home?”
“You are insufferable, Coriolanus.” You wipe a tear from his face. “I promise.”
“Take the car.” He presses a quick yet tender kiss to your lips. “I love you.”
You nod, “Love you too.”
For now, you left with Coriolanus’ love and worry for him while Coriolanus stayed with a more ruined conscience and the thought of keeping you safe.
With every thought consuming both of your minds, neither of you would know how much shit was about to go down and how much it would affect your lives.
All because of a deal.

Idk if you are taking requests currently, but if you are…
Could you write a similar fic to our little dove, where Coriolanus doesn’t kill Lucy. I would’ve loved to see more of them arguing over who gets to spend time with the reader, and all three of them spending time together.
Or maybe a different ending where Lucy takes reader to pick up katniss with her. And whilst Coriolanus is in the cabin lucy convinces reader to run away with her… but Coriolanus finds both of them and takes them to the Capitol with him.
OUR LITTLE DOVE,, ALT ENDING
Tumblr media
pairings: dark!lucy gray x fem!reader, dark!coriolanus snow x fem!reader, coriolanus snow x lucy gray
summary: you reunite with your dear songbird after the games, but it seems the capitol has followed her home, and taken an interest in the two of you. but it seems lucy gray is willing to share you with a certain peacekeeper, even if you aren’t.
a/n: here’s for all who wanted a different ending! the full fic is here ( our little dove )this is just a detour for everyone who wasn’t happy with the ending! DONT READ IF YOU HAVENT READ THE FULL FIC!!!
the trek back to town had you dying. it usually didn’t take so long but with coriolanus’s arm practically glued to you, the sun beating down on your trio and your dress sticking to you? fainting seemed very fun right now.
the entire routine was rushed, food stashed, no goodbyes to your family nor friends, just lucy and coriolanus wanting you on the train asap. they’d sprung their plan of going back to the captiol on you quite abruptly once you reached town but at this point you had no hope in your body of escaping them. so you obliged and followed like a lost puppy.
being in the capitol was worse.
you were completely and utterly alone. coriolanus was busy running the country, lucy was always working and you always seemed to be stuck on your windowsill. staring out onto the streets as the world passed you by. stuck in a prison of marble and luxury.
at first you had to endure lucy and coriolanus’s never ending arguing, always over you. when you still had an inkling of freedom. “are you kidding me? you chose what she wore yesterday lucy. will you just back the fuck off?” lucy’s jaw was dropped open, “excuse me? she was my-” coriolanus’s head tilted back as he dragged his hands over his face, “oh my god how many times are you going to use that? who the hell got her here huh? who provides for all of us? sure as hell not you. now don’t make this any harder. she’s wearing the red dress.” you sat there the whole time, just waiting for someone to notice you.
it always led back to you. but apparently kidnapping you and uprooting your life wasn’t enough since after time the duo fed off of eachother, delusions enlarging. seemingly everyone was out to get you, be with you, but you were theirs. coriolanus wasn’t president long enough yet to go around killing people without raising suspicion and alert towards him and as much as people did respect him, he couldn’t exactly go around killing everyone who looked at you and lucy even if he wished to. so he settled for the next best thing. keeping you away from them, out of reach.
and here you ended up, alone.
you had everything you’d ever dreamed of yet it all meant nothing. you were a shell of your old self and the two of them knew it. but all they cared was that you were with them. whisperings of the president having two lovers were imminent, lucy gray the victor, and the other. the unknown. and you weren’t sure if they’d ever know you. if anyone knew who you were, what you looked like let alone your name. even the staff of your prison did what was necessary, nothing more nor less. food, water, changed bedsheets and drawn baths was all the interaction you had with people that weren’t corio nor lucy.
you wanted to die, anything was better than living the same day over and over. the little flickers of hope came in the form of broken promises whispered during the dark nights, barely heard over the heaving breaths originating from yourself and the other two. promises of people, of the sun and temporary escape from here. but you’d learnt not to believe them.
“sweetheart, it’s not good for you to sit there all day. come, eat.” coriolanus asked demanded from the doorway of your library. the book at your feet long forgotten. coriolanus led you to the dining room where lucy was already eating. “there you are baby. somethin’ wrong?” lucy’s eyebrows were creasing as she took you in, empty eyes, emotionless face, slumped shoulders. you were nothing like the girl from twelve.
y/n l/n. sweetheart to almost everyone. a smile on her face as she went about her day. opening up to people and allowing others to lean on her. making sure her friends were okay when she noticed the slightest shift in feelings. always the lover. the carer.
but the girl who stood in front of her was so different and it broke her heart.
but she knew if she wanted to repair you she’d have to let you go. and as the three of you cuddled together in bed, your soft breaths lulling coriolanus and herself to sleep, she knew it was worth it, as long as you were here.
how selfish! she thought, but at the end of the day.
you’re our little dove.

Perfect Pair || Coriolanus Snow x reader
A/N: Something about evil blondes is gonna do it for me every single time. Until next time, lovelies! 💗
Warnings: Coriolanus Snow x dark!reader, enemies to lovers, Coryo’s violent thoughts, attempted murder, spit play?? (does it count? idk. but i’ll leave this here anyway), dub-con kisses.
Tumblr media
‘No loose ends’, Something Coriolanus often reminded himself. The same words had echoed in his head when he had sent his only friend to be hung. Poor, trusting, and foolish Sejanus. Coriolanus wished it could have stopped there, but it seems everywhere the Snow boy stepped, a trail of withering destruction followed. Once that destruction had eventually caught up with him, he’d found that his beloved Lucy Gray Baird wanted nothing to do with him. Why couldn’t she have understood? Everything he did was for her, for them. She had fled from his love as if it were poison, and maybe it was. But, he’d argue that she was just as poisonous, latching onto him as he did everything in his power to ensure her safety- milking him for everything he had. Only to leave once she had found out that he in fact did everything in his power to ensure her safety. So what if he had killed Sejanus? Sejanus’ recklessness would have gotten them all killed eventually. Although, it was all over now. In the form of Lucy Gray Baird, he had cut off his final loose end, leaving her in the forest and vowing to never love again- which was originally the plan.
There you were, standing across the room in a perfectly poised manner. He loathed it, loathed you. Coriolanus knew that you had always been smart, a close contender to the Plinth prize, a top student like him but not quite as good. Although, he had underestimated you. A few nights ago, much like the rest of your Academy classmates, you were celebrating the end of the semester at university. He had found himself exchanging petty insults with you on some balcony when you had revealed something rather bone-chilling. Coriolanus would have pushed you off the second floor if it weren’t for the abundance of people in the next room. Tipsy on posca, you had let it slip that you knew the circumstances of Sejanus’ death. How? He did not find out. You had taunted him, backed him into a corner, threatening to tell the Plinth’s that the golden boy they had adopted was not so golden after all. You had made a fool of Coriolanus Snow of all people. He hated you for it… but you had done something even more unexpected. You let him go. Although, he wasn’t going to take the risk. He couldn’t afford it, not after everything he had done to get where he is now- in the care of the two grieving parents of Sejanus, living the life of luxury he had always deserved.
Coriolanus had convinced Strabo Plinth to host another gala, hiding behind the excuse of ‘making connections’ for when he would eventually rise to power as the President. It was partially true, although, his main motive was to lure you in. Coriolanus had planned to poison you tonight, alongside a few other people he saw as threats. He would disguise it as another rebel attack, blame the staff- anything to ensure his protection. He watched from across the room as you eagerly conversed with a few gamemakers and former classmates. It was almost sickening to him, the sweet smiles you would flash, the way you would carry yourself so confidently. He could see right through you, because you were just like him. Driven by ambition, power hungry. He hated you. You caught his eye from where you stood, holding his gaze as you sent him a smile. What others might have interpreted as an innocent interaction, Coriolanus knew it was a silent threat. He was the first to look away, making his way through the crowd as he headed towards a secluded hallway, silently beckoning you to follow.
You of course took the bait, like he had planned, “Well if it isn’t Coriolanus Snow.” The click of your heels echoed across the hallway as you made your way over to him, like a snake slithering to its prey. You were adorned in a blood red gown, quite fitting for your personality, he thought. You had a glass of posca in your hand, the very drink that had gotten him into this mess. Coriolanus studied you for a moment, his blue eyes piercing through you before he broke the silence, forgoing any pleasantries, “Y/n. What is it that you want from me?” Unfazed by his cold tone, a small smile spreads across your lips, “What are you willing to give me?” The nerve of you. He wanted to scream, choke you until the life faded from your eyes, instead, he took a deep breath, “$50,000, and a formal introduction to Dr Gaul. Perhaps she’ll mentor you as well.” Coriolanus knew fully well that he was offering money he didn’t have, Strabo would never give him such amounts of money on short notice, but you didn’t have to know. After all, you’d be dead by the end of the night.
You tilt your head at him, swirling the glass of posca in your hand as you thought about his proposition, “$50,000? I’m sure you can be a little more generous Snow…considering you’re practically a Plinth now.”Coriolanus feigned annoyance, stepping closer and eventually cornering you, “You have plenty of money, what use would you have with even more?” He watched as your breath catches in your throat due to his proximity, he relished in your reaction and watched as you caught yourself, putting on a confident facade, a hint of flirtation in your voice. “You’re right… but I do like playing with you… you’re my favourite toy.” Coriolanus finds himself wondering who else had fallen victim to your vicious games. He leans in closer, his breath warm against your ear, “Is that so? I don’t quite like this game of yours…” He notices how your breathing falters with every inch forward that he takes. He uses this to his advantage, pressing up against you and leaning in so his nose brushes against yours, as if he were to kiss you. Your vision is shielded as he invades your personal space, dulling your senses as you focus on his touch. With light fingers, he reaches into his pocket and drops a small dose of poison in your glass of posca. He whispers, “50 grand, take it or leave it.”
Coriolanus takes a step back, watching as you try compose yourself. He can only smirk at your flustered state, and inevitably, you take a sip from your glass on instinct. You’re about to take another sip when you see the way he’s eyeing your drink. A glint of malice in his eyes. You swallow nervously, stepping forward in panic, “What did you do to me?” He bites back a laugh, grinning to himself, “Soon enough, you’ll be dead- poisoned. But don’t worry dear, you won’t be the only one. The world will know your names, the poor victims to another ‘rebel attack.’ Don’t you know? Snow lands on top.” But then you do the unthinkable. You take another swig from your glass, filling your mouth with the poisoned posca before grabbing him by the collar and pulling him into a forceful kiss. It was intoxicating, the way the sweet but deadly wine traveled down his throat, alongside the soft pillowy touch of your lips against his own. Mutually assured destruction. He wanted to hate you for it, he really did, but you were just so brilliant. Is this what he had been missing all along? He had liked the supposed innocent love he shared with Lucy Gray, but this, you, were truly deadly. Just like him.
Coriolanus stumbles back, shocked. You watch with a somewhat amused expression, considering the circumstances. “Time is ticking Snow. I assume you’re not stupid enough to go without the antidote?” He feels his eyes roll into the back of his skull, he reluctantly pulls out another vial, and before you can snatch it from his hands, he holds it above your head. You scowl as he taunts you, and he simply laughs, “My god, you’re insufferable.” You watch with outrage as he takes a generous swig from the vial, and before you can say anything, he presses his lips to yours, just as forcefully. You let out a soft groan as he transfers some of the liquid into your mouth, you swallow hungrily, keeping your lips locked with his. You wanted to hate him, but the way he kissed you had your heart fluttering with desire. Perhaps he isn’t so bad, you think. Coriolanus pulls away, his breathing heavy as he takes in your flushed state and slightly swollen lips. It was that day forward that your two fates would be sealed. “Stand by me Y/n. Stand by me, and we’ll be untouchable.” And so you do, eventually becoming the First Lady of Panem as he rises to power as President, a perfect pair indeed.
A/N: Also, saw someone shit talking the Coryo fan fics out there the other day?? I think most, if not all of the writers in this fandom are absolutely amazing, which is why I’m confused. So, if you don’t like the content, don’t read it, and you think it’s so bad, then write your own. Go on then. There are these amazing writers taking the time out there to fulfil your asks, your requests in their own time. They don’t have to, but they do anyway. Show your writers the love and appreciation they deserve. Sorry for the rant, I just hate it when people are so rude.

Mr. President (Coriolanus Snow x Reader)-Part 1
Summary: Reader is the daughter of the Plinth family currently studying at a University and has started working for the young President Snow. Story is presumed to be taking place 10 years after the events of TBOSAS. Reader doesn’t know about what Coryo did to her brother Sejanus. Likely the story will divide up to 2 or max. 3 parts since I was planning a one shot, but it ended up being too long and still writing.
Warning: there is a bit of age gap between the reader and Coryo. Since Coryo is the young president, he is currently 28 years old in this fic whereas the reader is a young adult in university so around 20 years old roughly. Plus, Coryo is a whole ass red flag himself.
***P.S. I love Lana Del Rey’s music (what a queen), so I was listening “Cinnamon Girl” a lot while writing this, it has such a romantic tune, and I just love the following line, “There’s things I want to say to you, but I just let you live. But if you hold me without hurting me, you’ll be the first who ever did.” It makes you feel all fluttery inside.
Also, this line from her song “Ultraviolence,” I used to love singing this line “cause I was filled with poison, but blessed with beauty and rage” to myself because it made me feel edgy, but now I just think it perfectly describes Coriolanus because you know, he poisons people and he’s handsome, but filled with anger and hatred. LOL. Anyways, enjoy the story!***

In the shadowed alleys of the Capitol, where opulence and ambition intertwine, there existed a figure rarely noticed—a young Snow. His pristine facade masked a mind ever calculating, navigating the intricate dance of power and prestige in a world that revered ruthlessness above all else. The Capitol's opulent façade hides its darker truths, so did he, veiling the depths of his ambition. All so perfectly poised to unravel the complexities of privilege, the chilling genesis of a future president.
You ran down the streets of the capitol as you were on your way home from university for which you promised your mother that you would be in time for since your family was supposed to be meeting the new President today. Time is not in your favour at this moment since you are at a very high likelihood of being late. So, you decide to take a shortcut, and run down an alleyway rather than the busy streets. Being in a rush and sprinting despite your aching legs and lungs gasping for air, you run into a hard chest, causing you fall backwards from the impact and you drop on your butt on the ground.
The impact of colliding with something unexpectedly was enough to knock the air out of your lungs and forced you to take several deep breaths to compose yourself. But the sensation did not last long as a voice pierced the stillness of the uprising darkness at the time of sunset. The voice was as smooth as velvet, and your attention was then immediately drawn to the tall figure who stood tall in front of you. The figure had pale blue eyes that glowed in the darkness and a firmness to his jaw that sent shockwaves through your body. It was almost hypnotic.
You gulped as you looked at the handsome, but strange young man apologetically. He was dressed very nicely almost like all members of high society are, but something about him was very different. The air around him just felt tense, he stared at me with his piercing cold, blue ocean eyes. A very annoyed expression adorning his face. His blonde hair styled very sharply, but a single curl had fallen loosely over his forehead, likely due to you.
Your eyes locked with his, and his expression shifted from annoyance to suspicion to curiosity all in a matter of seconds before settling to a steely resolve. His eyes narrowed from the intensity of his stare, and you found yourself struggling not to blush at the intensity and directness of his gaze. The curl that had fallen over his forehead seemed to accentuate the sharp lines of his square chin. As both of you stared at one another, you almost felt as though time had stopped to a crawl, and all you could feel was the anticipation of what he would do next.
"I'm sorry." You quickly apologized as you stood up from ground, wiping away the dirt from the back of skirt of your uniform and your hands.
The man kept his cold eyes fixed on you for a moment longer, as if he was considering something that you couldn't quite pinpoint. You swallowed nervously when he finally responded. His voice was low and steady, and it sent chills down your back.
"What's the rush?" He asked.
You scratched the back of your head nervously. "I have to get to my house in time otherwise my parents would be really mad. You see, the new president is coming to see us!" You say, foolishly divulging unnecessary information to this stranger.
The man cocked an eyebrow and a hint of amusement flashed across his face. He replied, "You have to get home because the new president will be visiting?" The man gave a sardonic half-grin, as if he found your story absurd. You could not help but notice how white his teeth were as he smirked.
You roll your eyes at the stranger. "Listen, I'm so sorry, but I have to get going. You're not hurt, are you?"
Before you could speak again, the stranger spoke once more. "Hurt?", he responded in a low, calm and calculating tone. "No, I'm not hurt." Your heart raced in your chest as he towered over you, and he gave you the faint impression of a predator sizing up its victim. His lips curved into a sharp smile that was chilling in the cold night air, and he added,
"But you should be very careful about running around recklessly in the streets like that. Someone as lovely as yourself could very easily get hurt."
Something about his words seemed like a warning, but you didn't pay attention as you ran off again, leaving him behind to get home.
Your mind reeled as you made your way down the quiet alleyway back to my home. You couldn't help but mull over the strange encounter that just happened but you dismissed it as a random chance encounter. You kept the conversation that you both shared in your heart as you rushed home, and as the front door of the house came into view, you breathed a sigh of relief.  The new president's visit would have to wait for an hour or so—you wouldn't risk you parents' anger.
You are Yura Plinth. You belong to a really prestigious family in the Capitol. Your brother Sejanus Plinth was a mentor for the 10th hunger games which happened 10 years ago, but for some reason, he joined the peacekeepers and was executed. He was accused of being part of a rebellion, and before your father could hear the news about his punishment, the damage was done. You had lost your brother, and now you’re the only one to represent the family. An embarrassment.
Sejanus was supposed to be the new heir, the apple of your parents' eyes, but that was no longer possible because he was not around, and you were what remained. After his death, your family had selected a new heir despite your presence because they just didn't trust you enough. That person was apparently a classmate of your brother and a close friend, Coriolanus Snow, who is also now the current president. You despised him despite never meeting him before because he took your place. He took your right as an heir to the Plinth family. You’ve never met him before, but today is the day that you will.
The Plinth family was one of the most prominent families in the Capitol. They were among the wealthiest, most affluent families and were known for their shrewd business acumen and political maneuvering. The Plinth family's political connections were extensive, and their influence reached every corner of the Capitol. Over the years, the Plinth family had established a powerful political dynasty that was not to be underestimated.
When they lost their sole hair, Sejanus, 10 years ago, they picked Coriolanus Snow as their heir because in their minds, you were not fit to be an heir for many reasons. Not only were you apparently not smart enough or well-spoken as Sejanus, but it was also because you were a girl. You were deprived of your right just because you had different chromosomes from your sibling.
The Plinth family's traditionalist and conservative values shaped the way they saw the world. In their minds, it was not appropriate for a woman to lead their family, even if she was intellectually gifted and capable of doing so. They had passed over you because of your gender and instead chose the next logical heir, who happened to be a male friend of your brother.
A part of you hated your family for how they treated you, but they were the only ones you got, and without them, you would be nowhere. If you choose to rebel, your fate will face similar consequences as your late brother. So, you silently listen to your mother's complaints about your late arrival and go to your room to get ready to impress the "new president."
You felt a bitter twinge in your chest at the thought of your brother and the injustice of being overlooked for your inheritance. You knew that you could not rebel against your family and survive intact, so you quietly listened to your mothers' complaints and went to your room to get ready for the new president's visit. Your mother insisted that you wear your best dress and look your most demure to impress the president, and so you obliged. You chose a pale pink dress and matched it with your best jewelry, hoping to create a good first impression.
You were soon ready and headed downstairs to your living room, making sure to walk slow and calmly like your mother had instructed for it's not ladylike for a girl to be running around. Once you reached the bottom of the steps, you could hear chatter from the room. You walked past the dining hall into the living room to take a seat on the sofa beside your mother, but your eyes widen in shock as you meet with a familiar figure sitting in a love seat in front of you, staring at you with an amused smirk.
Your heart dropped into your stomach and fear flooded your veins when you realized that the familiar figure sitting in front of you was none other than Coriolanus Snow, the new president. The memories of your encounter in the alleyway from earlier that day came rushing back, and you couldn't help but wonder if he somehow saw you as a potential threat. Your thoughts were briefly interrupted when he addressed you, smiling with one eyebrow raised in amusement.
Him? The guy from the alleyway, he's... Coriolanus Snow? And the president? You were flabbergasted at the discovery as you paused in shock. You were probably standing for a while because your mom pulled your hand harshly to get you to sit down, and you did while your brain still could not process this information.
Coriolanus Snow's familiar voice broke your daze, dragging you out of your stupor. He was sitting opposite you, smiling widely, and staring directly at you. He appeared to be amused by the look of shock that crossed your face for he gave a small laugh and said, "Surprise, I see we've met before."
Your heart almost skipped a beat as he acknowledged you. Your parents had a look of confusion plastered on their face at the "president's" words. Your parents' confusion was a testament to how abrupt this unexpected and strange encounter was. Your mother quickly recovered from her shock and asked, "You...you already knew my daughter?" Her confusion was palpable, and her tone of voice betrayed her emotions. She was taken aback by Coriolanus Snow's familiarity with you despite having no prior introductions.
You felt the heat of embarrassment wash over you as you recalled the short encounter that you had in the back alleys earlier in the day. The memory of the cold intensity of his stare and his piercing blue eyes still lingered in your mind. You looked away from him, unable to reconcile the polite and elegant persona that he displayed before you with the cold and calculating young man that you met earlier.
"Ma, I uh... bumped into him unknowingly on my way home." You say, sheepishly. Your mother was confused by the vagueness of your explanation, and she raised an eyebrow as a skeptical look crossed her face. She said, "You bumped into him...on your way home? Is that all?"
You nod. "I see, so it was all a coincidence then." Your mother's voice had a hint of skepticism to it, but you couldn't help but to think that she was not convinced at all. You felt a twinge of irritation at her attitude towards you as you continued to look away from Coriolanus Snow to hide the emotions that were flitting across your face. You couldn't help but be affected by his presence.
Your father luckily interrupted the conversation by clearing his throat. "Corio... I mean... President Snow, we're really glad and honoured that you've made it here today, and it's wonderful that you've now met the entire family." Your father's interruption was a welcome one as it provided a chance for you to take a moment to collect yourself. You were relieved when your mother stopped questioning you and shifted her attention towards Coriolanus Snow.
Coriolanus looked at you briefly before turning his attention to your father. Coriolanus' eyes were sharp and his focus laser sharp as he looked at your father. He gave a small bow of his head, and his voice was cool and authoritative as he said,
"Ah, it's an honor to meet you, Mr. Plinth. I understand that your son and I were close, and it is my great pleasure to continue the friendship between our families."
The mention of your brother tugged at your heart, but you remained composed as they continued to speak as you zoned out from their conversation. Soon it was time for dinner, and you all stood up to make your way to the dining table. Unfortunately, time was definitely not in your favor today since you had to sit beside no one other the President, Coriolanus Snow.
The dining room was set to perfection for a formal dinner with the Plinth family. You had no choice but to swallow down the bitter taste of disappointment as you looked at the seating arrangement. Coriolanus Snow was to sit beside you, while your parents sat on either side of him, and you were stuck with him for the entire night. You were irritated by the seating arrangement as a sinking feeling began to grow in your stomach as you thought of the awkward encounter you were about to have with the new president.
You played around with the food on your plate as you stared down at it. You didn't dare lift your head to avoid having an awkward conversation with anyone, but luckily your parents were more than happy to take away any attention for you as you stayed seated at the dining table besides the new young and handsome President of Panem.
The dining hall was filled with the chatter of conversation and laughter as your parents engaged the president with their talk of politics and business. You took their lead and stayed as composed as possible as you ate slowly, keeping your eyes on your food instead of looking over at the president. You also hoped the conversation would end at some point so that you could leave the table and avoid any unnecessary exchanges with the president. However, it seemed your night was destined to be an awkward one as the dinner conversation didn't appear to be ending anytime soon.
"President Snow, I was hoping to discuss about my daughter, Yura Plinth, possibly having a chance of working with you at the office. She's currently completing her education at the Capitol's university, but I think some real-life experiences might be good for her. We'd really appreciate it if you could take her into your wing." Your father spoke to the president, making you freeze immediately upon hearing your name. Your hand gripped your fork tightly as you waited to see where exactly this conversation is going.
Coriolanus Snow glanced at you before he responded to your father, and you felt like your entire world had paused in that moment. His icy eyes swept over you for a moment again, and you could feel the weight of his gaze on you before he replied, "It would be an honor to work with the offspring of one of Panem's most prominent and respected families," he said, and you saw your mother's face light up with pride before he continued, "I will take her on board with one condition."
You quickly turned to look at him to face his side profile, his jaw so sharp like a knife and his eyes staring directly at your parents as he spoke. You watched his prominent Adam's apple move as he spoke. Coriolanus Snow's sharp gaze never left your parents as he spoke and his tone of voice was firm yet pleasant. He continued, "I will only take her if she can prove herself worthy and if she can prove that she is willing to put in the necessary work."
"Well, of course she will, she's a Plinth. Won't you, Yura?" You mom answered on your behalf as she then looked towards you to agree with her. Following her prompt, you turn your gaze to President Snow looking directly into his cold blue eyes as you said, "I promise to work really hard, President Snow. You can trust me."
Coriolanus Snow's eyes narrowed slightly at your answer, and he seemed to consider your words for a moment before he replied to you.
"I will have to wait and see if your promise holds true. Your skills will have to be tested, and if you pass, I will take you into my wing to teach you and guide you. But if you fail...well then you will face the consequences," he said, and you felt a chill run down your spine at his warning.
You nodded in agreement although you felt a bit scared. "I'll do whatever it takes." You promised.
Coriolanus Snow's facial expression remained unchanged, but you could feel his stare piercing through you as he contemplated your words. After a moment, he nodded his head in acknowledgment.
"Very well then, I will expect you to deliver on your promise because there is no room for mistakes. Do you understand?"
"Yes Sir." You spoke, and you noticed a slight smirk appear on his face upon your words. Coriolanus’ smirk was faint but it was there and it added to the air of mystery and power that he was already radiating. He kept his facial expression unchanged as he looked at you, and you had the distinct feeling that he was judging you as he said,
"Good, then that's settled then." His voice was cool as ice.
You nodded then the rest of the dinner was spent in small chatter mainly between your parents and President Snow as you were left pondering what you had gotten into.
The weekend passed by and soon the unpleasant Monday morning came as your mother woke you up for school. "Yura get up! And don't forget that you need to go to President Snow's office right after your classes are done!"
Your mother's words jolted you awake as you lay in bed, and you sat up with a groan. The words, "Snow's Office," immediately filled you with an overwhelming amount of dread and anxiety as you tried to calm down your nerves. Your mother's words made it very clear that today was the first day of your new life, and there was no escaping the responsibility that it entailed.
You finish your classes and quickly head home to take shower to get ready to go to President Snow's office. As you get ready, the anxiety sets fire to your nerves again. You wear a nice mid -length white dress with matching flats. You quickly dry your, applying mild make up to your face before looking at the time. Crap! You need only have five minutes left to get there in time! You rush outside your home before asking your chauffeur to drop you to the Capitol hall, where President Snow's office is.
You arrived in a huff, and without wasting any time you rushed into the building, making a beeline for the stairs. The building was busy with people going to work and going about their day, but you couldn't focus on anything else but where you were going and the daunting responsibility that you were about to take on. You made it in front of his office door and you inhaled a deep breath then exhaled before lifting your hand to knock on the door.
Your heart was racing and your hands felt clammy as you gathered the courage to knock at the office door. Your nerves were running wild, but you knew that you didn't have a choice as you raised your hand and knocked on the door.
"Come in." You heard a voice from behind the door call, and you slowly turned the door knob to open the door before heading inside.
When you heard Coriolanus Snow's voice from the other side of the door calling in that commanding but pleasant tone of voice, your heart skipped a beat. You turned the knob on the door and stepped inside, and you felt like you were crossing the threshold into a different world.
The room was spacious and elegant, decorated with the finest furniture. Your eyes settled on the man sitting behind his desk, and your heart skipped a few beats when you locked eyes with him.
"You're late." He remarked, making your palms get clammy and you start to play with the bottom of your dress in nervousness as you try to think of an answer. Coriolanus Snow's abrupt tone of voice sent a small surge of anxiety through you as he stated the obvious, making you fidget with the bottom of your dress. The sudden pressure of him calling out your tardiness put you on edge, and your nerves were starting to get the best of you.
"I'm sorry." You apologize quietly while looking down at the ground.
Coriolanus Snow seemed to be unaffected by your apology, and without taking his eyes off you he continued speaking, "You're a late-comer and that's an indication of tardy habits, which I cannot accept. I have high standards and expectations, and I hope you are well aware of that." The president's words were blunt and without mercy, and you felt like taking a deep breath to calm yourself as he continued speaking.
"Yes Sir. It won't happen again; I'll make sure of it." You promised.
Coriolanus looked at you intently as you spoke and his expression stayed unchanged, although you thought you saw a hint of amusement in his eyes. "That is what I expect from you, and I hope that you can uphold your end of the agreement." He stood up, walking around the desk to stand in front of you before he spoke again, "Now, follow me."
Coriolanus led you around the Capitol Hall as he gave you a tour of the halls and explained the tasks and responsibilities that were expected of you. The tour was thorough and comprehensive, and you took in every word that he said as he walked around and talked with you. You couldn't help but feel a bit overwhelmed by the amount of knowledge that you had to retain, but you also couldn't help but get a small feeling of excitement as you thought about the future that lay ahead.
President Snow asked whether you had any questions and if there was anything unclear about his expectations to which you answered no. Although you were completely overwhelmed on the inside. But there was no chance of failure, you had to prove yourself to your parents and this was the only way you could do it even though you didn't like Coriolanus Snow, you had to admit that he was quite intelligent and competent for someone of his age and calibre.
The rest of your first day was pretty simple, your only task for the day was answering phone calls for the president and leaving a message that "he was busy." It was annoying, and the ringing of the phones as still buzzing in your ears, but the day had translated into night, and it was now time to go home. You waited outside the Capital Hall as you waited for the chauffeur to come pick you up. But you were surprised when an unfamiliar car pulls up in front of you. The back window was lowered to reveal President Snow.
You tried to compose yourself as your back straightened, and you waited to see what Coriolanus Snow had to say. The president's piercing eyes stared at you for a moment before he spoke, "Can you get in?"
You quickly shake your head at his offer. "No. It's okay. My chauffeur should be here any moment. But, thank you though."
Coriolanus Snow raised an eyebrow at your response before he seemed to accept your answer, although you could tell that he didn't exactly look pleased. The president waited for a moment before he responded, "Very well then," and he looked at you with a frown on his face, "But my offer still stands. Just know that."
You gave him a polite smile with a small wave. Coriolanus Snow returned your smile with a slight nod before he rolled up his windows and drove off, leaving you by yourself again. You stared at the Capitol Hall for a moment in silent contemplation before you started to wait for your chauffeur again. This had been one of the most eventful days of your entire life.
A couple weeks go by and your responsibilities had increased to a more of an administrative or an assistant role for the president. You were responsible for organizing the president's schedule, managing his appointments, ensuring his clothes were well prepared for various events, etc. Despite trying to manage the added stresses and responsibilities, you still felt an immense amount of pressure building up within. Coriolanus Snow had shown a strict intolerance for mistakes and had never shied away from chastising you if you were to slip up in the slightest way.
You absolutely despised him but were also scared of him. Everyone in the Capitol were always walking on eggshells around him, so what were you in comparison? You were snapped out of your thoughts as the man himself entered your office abruptly.
His gaze met yours with a piercing look, and your heart started to pound as you felt the walls closing in around you. "Good evening, President Snow." You greeted him.
"Evening." The president replied with a clipped tone before he continued to speak, "We have a crisis on our hands, one that is urgent and needs to be resolved quickly. Are you aware of the tension that is brewing between the Capitol and District 12?"
"What kind of tension?"
"I've received various reports from my sources that there are rumors of rebellion brewing in District 12. I don't believe that it has gotten to that point yet." He said as he crossed his arms, "But the tensions seem to only be growing and it's important that we are aware of the situation."
"What would you like me to do, sir?"
**"I'd like for you to dig up more information that can help us establish the situation in District 12, to determine whether the rumors of rebellion were true or not.*" He stated, watching you intently as you spoke.
"Me?" You asked.
"Yes, you."** Coriolanus Snow answered firmly and without hesitating, "As my assistant, it is your duty to carry out my orders regardless of your opinions or thoughts on the matter. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes sir." You reply, not really having a choice in the matter.
Coriolanus Snow's expression stayed unchanged as you answered his question, but he didn't seem upset with you. He seemed satisfied with your response and looked at you for a moment as he spoke, "Make sure to report back to me at the end of the day tomorrow, is that understood?"
You nod, but you whine on the inside at the heavy task now sitting on top your shoulders. Coriolanus Snow appeared pleased by your response before he left the office without saying a word. You were left alone once again with your thoughts and the huge burden of responsibility given to you. You sighed and sat down at your desk as you started wondering how you were going to complete the daunting task that the president had given you.
After he left your office, you immediately left to head to district 12 and begin investigating in the matter. The tension that was growing in the air was almost palpable as you arrived into the district, and you knew that you had to tread carefully. You began conducting various interviews and asking questions around the area, trying to find out more information about this supposed uprising that had been rumored. You specifically spoke with peacekeepers assigned in District 12 to see if they had noticed anything strange out of the blue to which they refused. You even looked over Jabberjay recordings but were unable to find any sort of information that might point to a possible rebellion. When you arrived at home, you stayed up all night to create a report on your findings to present to the President tomorrow.
You were exhausted after the sleepless night that you had endured while conducting your investigation. You slowly moved through your classes the next day in your school uniform and headed straight for the Capitol Hall once your classes ended. You arrived at the building and headed straight towards the President’s Office to meet with Coriolanus Snow, but you were also beginning to feel increasingly nervous about presenting your report to him.
When you entered the suite, you didn't see the president and noticed a white rose with a note lying on the table. The note was addressed to you and the only message that was written in it read, "Come to my house, I will expect to hear about your findings there. Snow". You glanced at the note and the white rose before packing up your report and leaving to head towards the presidential residence.
After following the note's directions, you found yourself arriving at the presidential residence as the sun began to set. You were greeted by a servant who allowed you to enter and then directed you to a seat in the living room to wait for President Snow. You sat down and tried to prepare yourself for the meeting that was going to come, which you were sure was going to be a challenging one.
Coriolanus Snow walked into the room, and you quickly got up out of your seat to greet him. The president was dressed in a black suite and was holding a glass of wine in his hand, which he sipped on as he came closer to you. His facial expression was unreadable, and he was watching you keenly with those piercing eyes.
"Good evening, President Snow. How are you?" You greeted.
"Fine." The President responded with a clipped tone, although his expression did soften for a moment. He held the glass of wine up to his nose and took another sip from the glass before looking you in the eye and saying, "You may begin your report."
You nod before presenting your findings on District 12, you give him every detail that you know as you watch him listen keenly to your words. "And therefore, I don't think there is any sort of rebellion plans forming in District 12." You conclude.
Coriolanus Snow took a sip from his glass of wine before he said, "And you are positive of this?"
You nod. Coriolanus Snow continued to look at you with a piercing gaze, like he was trying to stare into your soul and read your thoughts. You could feel the pressure building up inside of you, but you tried to remain calm and keep your composure.
He finally spoke after a few moments of silence, "What would happen if I were to find out that you have withheld crucial information from me? Would you be able to handle the consequences of such an action?"
"I have not withheld any information from you. I would be a fool to do so, and I have no wish to compromise my own life or my family's for a possible uprising in the Districts." You answer.
Coriolanus Snow narrowed his eyes at you as you spoke, and you could feel how intense his stare was. He remained silent for a few moments before saying, "Are you saying that you would put your life and even the lives of your family members on the line for this investigation?"
You gulped, but you nodded anyways.
Coriolanus Snow's stare remained intense as he continued to look at you, but there was a glimmer of admiration in his eyes. You could tell that he was definitely starting to gain a great deal of respect for you.
"Well, for what it's worth, I can say that I don’t think you have anything to worry about when it comes to a rebellion rising up in district 12. I believe you when you say that there are no signs of this currently brewing."
"Thank you."
Coriolanus Snow nodded his head, "You've done exceptionally well with this report, I am satisfied with the work you've put in and the information you've provided. However, the reports that I've received from my sources are still concerning, so you will continue to provide me with updates from District 12 every week from now on to ensure that the situation does not escalate. Is that understood?"
"Yes Sir."
Coriolanus Snow finally smiled at you when you agreed to do as he asked. The president was still holding his glass of wine as he spoke, "That is all for now, you are free to leave. I have one more question to ask, before you leave though."
"Of course."
Coriolanus Snow placed his glass of wine down on the table and looked at you intently. "As you know, this discussion is highly classified and cannot leave these walls. If anyone were to ask you about what we talked about, you are to keep silent and not disclose anything. Is that clear?"
You nod before starting to leave.
Coriolanus Snow smiled slightly and nodded as he watched you begin to leave. He then spoke for the last time. "We will meet here again next time for this report. Stay alert and continue to remain mindful of any suspicious activities in District 12. You've done well today."
You nod upon hearing his words feeling like it's a habit for you now. But as you walked, you started to feel a bit dizzy, and the room began to spin as you started to lose your balance.
Coriolanus Snow's expression changed slightly as he noticed you lose your balance and start to feel lethargic. He quickly rushed over to you, not wanting you to fall and hurt yourself. "Are you feeling alright?"
You felt his arms around you to support you as he helped move you to the sofa again. Coriolanus quickly moved you onto the sofa and looked at you with concern as you began to fade in and out of consciousness. The president placed his hands underneath your head to raise you up as he looked at you, asking again, "Are you OK?"
You nodded stating that you're fine. You probably felt a bit weak due to exhaustion and because you had barely eaten today due to the stress of this report, but you don't state any of that in front of him.
Coriolanus Snow kept an eye on you as he saw that you were still looking a bit weak and exhausted. You felt yourself starting to drift out of consciousness, but you tried to remain alert and focused as you stated that you were fine.
He looked at you sympathetically as he noticed your exhaustion and knew that you could use some rest. After some more moments of silence, he broke the silence again and spoke up, "Would you like me to arrange for one of the servants to prepare some food for you to eat?"
You refused out of politeness, but again as if the time was against you, your stomach growled loudly.
Coriolanus Snow noticed your stomach's loud growling and couldn't help but smile slightly as he said, "I believe that your stomach has just expressed its opinion on that."
The president looked at you with a hint of humor in his eyes as he continued, "Let me have the servants arrange a light meal for you. It will be good for you to eat something."
You couldn't refuse as you flushed in embarrassment. The servant gave you some fruits to eat and you had some cherries since those were your favourite.
As you finished eating the fruit, Coriolanus Snow suggested that you stay for dinner. You were about to say that you should decline when you realized that the president was watching you intently, probably waiting for you to respond. You decided to stay anyway, as it was not a bad idea to take up his offer.
The servants prepared an extravagant meal for all of you, and the president sat next to you during the dinner. Although you enjoyed the delicious food, you felt a bit uncomfortable with the intense staring from Coriolanus Snow.
You thanked the president once again for the delicious dinner, and then excused yourself. You explained that it was late and if you did not return home soon then your parents might start to worry. The president nodded as he watched you stand up, and he didn't seem like he wanted you to leave already.
"You can stay the night. It's late anyways. I can speak to your parents so that they're not worried." He said asking you to stay.
Coriolanus Snow offered for you to spend the night there, as it was pretty late already. However, the idea of staying the night with the president sounded even more awkward than that intense staring. You couldn't refuse, though. The president might find it strange if you insisted on going home and making your parents worry, so you agreed and thanked him for the offer.
"But I don't have another set of clothes for the night." You say.
The president seemed to have expected that response from you since he nodded and said, "Don't worry, I have plenty of guest rooms that have fresh clothes and comfortable blankets. You can simply change into some of those and spend the night on one of the guest beds." Not having any more excuses, you reluctantly agreed.
Your acceptance of the offer seemed to have surprised Coriolanus Snow, as his face broke into a small smile at your polite acceptance. He got up from his seat and walked over to you and then placed his hands on your back as he guided you towards one of the guest rooms.
You entered the room and thanked him once again before saying "Goodnight President Snow."
Coriolanus Snow smiled down at you and replied with a simple "Good night." You entered the guest room and began to change into the fresh clothes given to you by the servants. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and relaxing, and you immediately felt tired just from laying down and closing your eyes.
In the middle of the night, you have a dream or more like a nightmare. Sejanus is standing in front of the noose and yelling out your mother's name. You gasped and sat up quickly in bed, feeling scared as you remembered where you were. You looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings, feeling uneasy and vulnerable. After some moments of silence, you decided to go take a little walk down the hallway to calm your nerves and settle your breathing.
You walked in the hallway as you looked downwards from the stairs. The mansion looked so eerily haunted in the dark, it gave you shivers as you started to descend the stairs to get some water from the kitchen.
The dark mansion was eerily haunting and unsettling as you descended the stairs, and it caused you to feel a sense of dread as you stepped into the kitchen. The quiet atmosphere gave you a strange feeling of uneasiness as if someone was watching you. You tried to shake it off and went to pour yourself a cup of water.
As you were on your way back to your room, you heard noises coming from a distant room ahead of the living room. For some reason, you followed the sounds and came near the door. You opened the door slightly to find President Snow speaking loudly to someone on the phone. You try not to eavesdrop and leave the door closed, but your curiosity gets the better of you. You decide to open the door slightly and peek at the president. You thought that the person he was speaking with on the phone was the main recipient of his attention, but before you could even process the entire situation, his gaze met yours.
You gasped upon seeing his gaze meet yours and quickly backed away from the door while trying to hide yourself, but you knew that he had probably noticed you by now. You stood there for a few moments, feeling panicked and unsure about what to do next.
You tried to quickly maneuver your way back to your room, but you heard a door sound closing from behind you and footsteps catching up to you before you feel someone grab your arm before entrapping you between them and against the wall. You were trying to maneuver your way back to your room when you felt someone catch your arm and pull you against the wall. You felt trapped and vulnerable as the person you realized to be the president held you with one arm wrapping around your arm and pressed you closely against the wall with their body.

a/n: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR 100 FOLLOWERS!!! I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH AND IN RETURN.... 😏....you guys get an absolutely soul crushing fic that almost made me cry while i was writing it. enjoy!!! 🥰 (i'm so sorry)
Tumblr media
you were looking forward to your anniversary. three years. you and coryo had agreed to celebrate after your mentor work was done. that included touring the arena and preparing your tributes for the interviews.
you needed this plinth prize. your family wouldn't make it without the prize money in your possession. coryo offered to help you out, but you knew he couldn't contribute much. which meant you had to win the hunger games, or your tribute at least.
if your tribute, jessup diggs, didn't win, you had no shot at affording university. and without university, a well paying job wasn't in the question. so you were going to attempt to make the most out of the two events planned for the day. your boyfriend offered up some valuable advice to you in the days prior. his adjustments to the rules opened up some advantages. with the opportunity of sponsors, you just had to make jessup likable.
after your sit down meeting with jessup, you weren't as confident in his ability to win. his bat bite was getting bad. infection was going to consume him, or even worse some other disease bats could transmit. ebola, rabies, even. either way, it was going to be much harder for him to win. unless the others wiped the other tributes out, and he just waited it out. coryo had suggested that strategy to you. the two of you had talked for hours last night.
either way, it was now time to make your way to the arena. coriolanus, along with clemensia dovecote, had been pulled away, to dr. gaul's office. you hadn't seen him since the tribute meetings. but now, here, outside the gates of the arena, you waited for him.
they claimed they wouldn't start the tour until all mentors were there. that meant coryo. it was good to know he would be here for this. you saw his tribute, lucy gray baird, at the front of the line. she was amazing. a singer, from what you had heard on reaping day. coriolanus had told you that he was planning to get her to sing again. she was fidgeting, waiting for her mentor to arrive. you were too. you looked to your tribute, jessup besides you. he was fairly tall and strong, but he looked weak now. the bite got worse just in the period of time between your meeting and now.
"remember to take in every part of the arena. you need to familiarize yourself." you suggested. he didn't say anything, but nodded. he hadn't spoken much in the time you'd known him. you truly felt bad for him. you weren't supposed to get attached to your tributes. but jessup needed help. from a doctor. anyone. the minute the bell rings this time tomorrow morning, he would have little to no chance of winning. he was just a boy. he was a little younger than you. no one deserves to die that young.
while looking at him, you felt someone place a hand on your shoulder. you looked to your left and found your boyfriend, coryo, his hand resting on you. you de-tensed at his touch. you were glad he was here.
"hi." he was smiling now. he placed a quick kiss on your cheek and grabbed your hand in his.
"hey, coryo." you admired his features as he looked at you. the moment was interrupted when a peacekeeper shoved him forward. probably to align him with lucy gray. you hands were pulled apart. it was sudden. the peacekeepers had no time for pleasantries. when you could see he was next to lucy gray, the line began to move.
after numerous "enjoy the show!'s" you finally made your way in. it was very dark, you could barely see the person in front of you. there was a dim glow from capitol cameras gearing towards the front of the line. suddenly, a loud click allowed for all the windows to open in the arena, sunlight shining in. you gestured for jessup to follow you, and you made your way to coriolanus. he was with his tribute, in the center of the arena.
"do you know how long this is going to take?" you asked, regaining his hand in yours. he glanced over at you, his tribute too.
"they won't let us have much time." he said. he was probably right. it wasn't until a peacekeeper came on the PA system and claimed that you had 15 minutes to "tour the arena and discuss strategy." you nodded at the announcement. "stay by me, please. i wan't you safe. none of these tributes are cuffed." he said. you looked around. none of them seemed like immediate threats. they saw and were aware of the multiple peacekeepers assigned to each one. but you still, felt safer near coriolanus.
you turned to jessup, who was already looking around the arena. you surveyed it too. there was no where to go. it was a colosseum. a big circle with no escape. no where to go besides the main circle. you knew the games would be over quickly tomorrow. but you didn't want to tell jessup that. you assumed he already knew. but you had to say something. make use of this time.
as you opened your mouth, you were cut off by a loud boom. then another, then another, and another. you had no idea what was going on. you fell to the floor from the wind pushing you around. dust was everywhere. getting into your eyes and mouth and nose. suffocating. the loud noises kept on going. then you heard crumbling. the roof must have been falling. concrete was beginning to land everywhere around you. you heard shouting. then, you could identify a more specific voice. that of coriolanus's. he was shouting incoherently. you couldn't see him through the dust that hadn't yet settled. the loud booms stop, but the sound of the arena actively crumbling continued. you then felt sharp pains. in your legs, your arms, everywhere.
glass. it was getting everywhere.
you couldn't move. you were in a state of shock. and you were flat on the floor. every time you tried to crawl your body wouldn't budge. your boyfriend was still shouting things you couldn't make out. the ringing in your ears was too loud.
then he got closer. you could hear him better now. he was repeating the same word.
"MOVE!" you heard. he kept repeating himself. you understood him, but your brain wasn't working quite right. you still couldn't move. suddenly, you heard a screeching sound. metal. you managed to turn yourself onto your back. it was a bad idea. it wasn't until it was too late when you realized that the metal beam was falling in your direction. when you saw it become increasingly near, your body attempted to trigger fight or flight. you tried to move out of the way but it was too late. the beam slammed into you and everything went dark.
Tumblr media
the first thing you heard was your heartbeat. then you heard some sort of beeping. then your sight came in. blurry at first, but your eyes eventually focused on a blank ceiling. you took a deep breath and attempted to move your head. looking around, you identified the room around you as some sort of hospital room.
the next thing you became conscious of was the fact that something hurt like hell. you pinpointed it to somewhere on your leg, but you couldn't see. you wondered if you were alone. that was soon proven wrong when you noticed a certain blonde standing in the far corner of the room. he was talking to a doctor. the words were incoherent. then you noticed something unsettling. there were streaks of tears down his face.
that couldn't be good.
soon he noticed you were awake, and immediately rushed to your side.
"oh my god, are you up?" you could tell by his shaky voice that he had been crying. hard. you nodded and he broke out into a smile. he brushed your hair from your forehead and replaced it with a kiss. you smiled back at him.
"what happened?" you asked. his smile faded at your question.
"there was a rebel bombing. seven died." the number hurt your heard.
"seven? seven..mentors? tributes?" you asked. you weren't sure how that was going to help you.
"a mix of both. mostly tributes." he answered. you knew you had been unfit for this mentor position. you were far too empathetic for this. you shouldn't have started crying at the tribute's deaths. but you did. coriolanus immediately noticed. he shushed you and wiped your tears with his handkerchief.
"hey. remember. it would have been worse to die in the games tomorrow, right?" his attempt at making you feel better did nothing much. his answer also confused you. it would be cruel to continue with the games tommorow.
"the games are still happening?" you asked. he nodded with a melancholy feeling. "that's- awful." you couldn't believe the acts of the capitol. "which mentors are...gone?" you hesitated to even say it.
"diana and apollo. felix ravinstill is in critical condition." you had known the siblings well. and felix, well, his dad was president. this would not go unnoticed.
"oh no." you sighed. he grabbed your hand and intertwined it with his.
"it's going to be ok. you're going to be ok." there was something strange about the statement. it was like he was reassuring himself and not you. you nodded, almost hesitantly. "i should have helped you. i just stood there and shouted like an idiot-"
"don't start with that. please. don't kick yourself for it." you re-assured him. then you felt a sharp pain in your leg. you winced. you hissed through your teeth and the unexpected feeling.
"what? what? what it is?" he was immediately shot into a state of panic.
"my leg!" you shouted. it felt like it was on fire. you immediately reached down to grab where it hurt out of instinct, and when you released it, you found blood on your hands, and lots of it. "my hands!" you shouted, tears running down your face. coryo was now standing up.
"we need a doctor! please!" he pleaded. you began to sob as it was the only thing you could think of to do. you watched as coriolanus looked down at your leg. he looked back up almost immediately, which was not a good sign. through thick, hot tears you saw a figure walk into the room with a team of men behind him. you saw as they ushered him out into the hallway. that only made you increasingly nervous.
you panicked as the lights began to fade again.
Tumblr media
you were in a new room now. this one felt more, eerie. your boyfriend was sat beside you, his head in his hands. the only thing you could do was reach your arm out to his. he immediately jolted at your touch.
"coryo what happened?" it was all you could think about.
"um.." he stuttered. his breath was very shaky. "look. you lost-" he paused. "a lot of blood. in your leg. too much." he continued. you immediately got concerned.
"too much? what do you mean too much?" you mind began to race to every possible bad outcome.
"you're in critical condition." he finally blurted out what he had been meaning to say all along. your heart began to beat much faster.
"no. no. no. no. no. no. no-"
"hey, hey hey it's ok-"
"no." you began to cry again. in panem, you didn't know of very many people who made it out of critical condition. "coryo, i-" you paused. you considered lying to yourself. you considered thinking that everything was going to be ok. "i'm scared." you shuddered. instead, you went with the truth. "i-" the words you wanted to say made you want to throw up.
"what? please. tell me." he asked.
"i don't want to die." the phrase broke the wall between tears and sobs. admitting that death was a possibility in this situation made everything worse. no matter what comfort he would attempt to give you.
"you're not going to die. you're not going to die." he repeated. he once again seemed to be finding comfort in his own words.
"how do you know that?" you cried.
"i don't." he admitted. "but i don't want to think of anything like that until it becomes the most likely possibility. if it ever does." you saw a tear roll down his face.
you knew your body. you knew the condition you were in better than any of those doctors. so with a heavy heart, you did anything but ease your boyfriend's mind.
"coryo." there was now multiple tears scattered on his cheeks. "coryo." you picked his head up with your head. "it is the most likely possibility." you could immediately tell that he had already known that. his head fell again and you heard quiet cries. you rolled onto your back, the position you had started in. you looked up at the ceiling.
you had never been fond of death. it had always scared you, since you were a little girl. you had always hated the idea of the hunger games. you had watched one year and never again. mentoring in the hunger games was hard. you hated the games. the deaths were unnecessary. and each time the buzzer ruled them out, you just thought of their family.
and now that was happening to you. you knew that the buzzer would soon rule you out. you didn't know when. you knew how. and you knew that, it was going to be sooner rather than later.
you were terrified.
"i'm scared." you repeated. you tried to move your mind to something else. you found one thing, and it didn't help. "coryo. today's our anniversary." three years. you had almost forgot in the chaos of today. "i'm sorry we couldn't enjoy it." you continued to stare at the ceiling.
"it's not your fault." his voice was stern. "besides. we are spending time together. look at us. like our own private date." his joke somehow made you laugh.
"thank you for being here. i haven't even seen my parents." you admitted.
"they are outside. they just said they couldn't bear to see you like this." you admired coriolanus's bravery. you knew that your leg was not a pretty sight. the huge gash slicing it open. it was at this moment you began to feel lightheaded. you knew the blood loss was getting to you. you knew death was getting to you.
"coryo?" you asked for him. you turned over to face him again. he looked up at you. "can i have a kiss?" now usually he was rough, aggressive with his affections. but at this command, he was soft. he gave you a soft kiss on the lips and nothing more. you appreciated that this may be the last kiss you would share. "coryo?" you called for him again.
"yes?" he answered.
"do you promise you won't forget me when i'm gone?" your voice shook immensely. he didn't even try to counteract your statement. he knew.
"i could never forget you if i tried." you heard his voice quiver. "you're my love. my one and only love. i'll never love again." he declared.
"no, no don't do that. please. enjoy your life, ok? promise me you'll find somebody else to love." you closed your eyes. you couldn't bear the thought. it pained you to say it but it was necessary.
"i'll never love somebody as much as i love you." he grabbed your hand and pressed a kiss to it. a doctor came into the room. one wo had probably been monitoring your vitals from outside. all he did was give coriolanus a nod. you immediately saw tears fall from his face, though no sound was heard.
you focused on your heartbeat. you knew that time was ticking, and the doctor had just silently confirmed it. listening to your heartbeat, you noticed every once in a while, the beats would get farther apart.
"look, i-"
"i know what's happening." you couldn't bare to hear him say it. his tears became more rapid. you had stopped crying, however. you just wanted to be here with him.
"i'm going to stay, ok? i don't care how long it takes. i'm not leaving you." he stated. he tried to be loud even though his tears were silencing his words.
"just hold my hand." it was all you asked of him. "i love you." you said.
"i love you more." he replied, almost immediately. it had been a tradition the two of you had come up with. if one said "i love you," the other had to try to say it back as quick as possible. bonus points if you overlapped. the small gesture made you smile. you finally decided to close your eyes, and relax your body.
you heard the beeping turn into one long sound as you took a deep breath in. the last thing you heard was the boy next to you finally break down in a loud cry.

the lucy gray fic 💔💔 i need a happy reunion after she comes back i can’t handle angst 😥
i almost made myself cry writing this... got the reunion part but kinda forgot about the fluff, sorry </3 i'm willing to write a third part that's actually fluffy if that's something you'd want ♡ this is a part 2 to right here in the old there before but can be read as a standalone
🕊 the sweet old hereafter ㅤ⠀lucy gray baird x reader ㅤ⠀↳ 1.6k ↳ angst to fluff ↳ gender neutral
district twelve is dark. the thick blanket of night is draped over every street as if it may never leave, as if beyond peacekeepers and criminals the real threat that awaited you beyond your home's threshold was the night itself; as if you will now forever be left here to wait for a train that will never come.
the train that would bring lucy gray baird home to you.
the moment she'd won, when the final tribute had fallen and she'd been left alone in the arena, you'd been stood on shaky legs with your eyes glued to the fuzzy screen of the covey household. lucy gray's family had been scattered in front of the television with you, and you'd all held your breath until the moment it was over.
it was no surprise a sob had shook your body, or that the covey had started crying just the same, after having spent so long just waiting for the girl you loved to die it was bound to happen.
but at the end of it all, when everything fell into place and lucy gray stood victorious, a deep fear had grown in you. the fear that they'd kill her anyway, that the capitol would spit in your face and deliver the final blow.
that never happened. the broadcast ended, and you still stood still as a statue in front of the now blank screen, only your distraught face staring back at you.
it had clutched at your heart, and kicked your legs from beneath you as you finally sat down, when you could finally let out a shaky breath. and you'd realised; lucy gray still wasn't safe yet.
you'd still stay up worried sick if the capitol swore she were being treated like one of their own, even if they told you personally she was happy and okay, you'd still feel that inkling of a stomach curdling doubt. you'd still find yourself, here, now, every night until she came home.
it's late enough that there are far less peacekeepers out, and likewise most twelve residents are reasonable, and at home; where they're meant to be. but you know one turn down the slimmer alleyways or a walk through the locked rooms of the hob would lead you right to a rebel gathering.
even with the comfort of knowing there's not a peacekeeper at every corner, your anxiety still spikes with every step, your feet hitting the ground and rustling the sticks and stones no matter how softly you walk — loud enough to alert someone with a keen ear, so you pray no one cares enough to be here.
you'd been stood immediately in front the make-shift train station you now watch from afar several minutes ago, until you'd realised if even a single peacekeeper were on the train with lucy gray and they were to notice you; you wouldn't like your chances of them not hanging you come morning. now your front is pressed against the cold concrete of an alley close enough to give you a clear view, but far enough that you hope your figure blends into the surrounding shadows.
one hand pulls at the loose fabric of your shirt while the other scratches at the wall of the wall beside you, anxiously stimming as your brow only furrows further towards the deep night. you gave up on counting how long it's been five minutes in, but you know from your weary eyes and sore feet that you've been waiting for quite a while.
a new feeling grows and battles with everything in you that begs to stay at the possibility of seeing lucy gray; the guilt of standing out here for an entire night, only to know soon you might return to the seam alone. you don't know if you could stomach facing sweet young maude ivory — who had approached you earlier in the day asking if you would wait after dark for lucy gray's return, which she was certain would be today — only to tell her her cousin still wasn't home.
maybe it would be better to head back now, where you knew she was still staying up waiting for your return, and at the very least let her get a chance at a night's rest instead of pointlessly forgoing sleep.
your throat feels tight as you try to take a deep breath and make a decision — your hand slowly drifting from the wall to wrap around your torso in an attempt to ground yourself — when a deep rumbling begins to shake through your core.
it starts small, like a shiver, but gradually, the tell-tale rattle of the train tracks reaches your ears, and a vibration runs down the line to the ground beneath your feet.
your heartbeat picks up and your hand flies back up to the rough wall, palm flat as you lean out of your hiding spot in anticipation.
your world feels like it's shaking off-axis as the train comes into view, bringing with it a dull echoing thunder and wind reaching out to whip at your face. you're too disoriented and short of breath to let doubt slip in within the time it takes for the train to arrive and for a peacekeeper to emerge and approach a carriage, but the venomous thing almost snags you in the second it takes for the peacekeeper to reach up their arm for the door.
and then — like everything has snapped back into place — you unconsciously hold your breath, and the peacekeeper heaves the door open.
your vision begins to cloud and a gasp bursts out of you as soon as a figure is tugged out of the carriage, and right in front of your eyes, upon the gravel and dirt of district twelve; lands lucy gray.
you watch almost disbelievingly as words you cannot hear are spoken and she's shoved almost to falling by the peacekeeper, who then watches her tentatively take a few steps away, and climbs back into the train once she's turned away and far enough from the tracks.
even as the train leaves, lucy gray stands eerily still, her arms wrapped around herself and head hanging low.
your body itches to just run up to her and twirl her in her arms, but something in you knows better — and something else is too scared — so you take you first cautious step out of the alley.
each step is slow, leaving gentle footprints like a child walking through the snow, like you have something to lose if you're too quick.
you don't know if it's your desperate deep breath or the gravel shifting beneath your next step, but in the blink of an eye lucy gray's head is flying up with eyes wide and fearful, and all of a sudden you're frozen in place.
you're like predator and prey in a final stand-off, just waiting for the other to make a move. you don't know who's either; who's the one waiting to pounce and who's the one shivering off their skin and praying for a chance to live. you feel like you're both prey, but lucy gray's frightened eyes reflect of the moonlight hauntingly, and it almost feels like she sees you as a threat.
you don't know what to say — or if you should say a word at all — but with your next exhale, a, "lucy gray," escapes.
her name hangs in the air, before you walk closer, and recognition sets in.
she says your name back like a gasp of relief, and within moments she's running to meet you halfway with a tight embrace that could bandage a wound.
one hand wraps around her back and the other cups her jaw, her own trembling hands flying up to encase your cheeks. she's muttering between your heavy breaths words you can't make out, and you hold her closer and whisper her own name again, as if to confirm to yourself that she's real, she's here, she's alive. she's safe.
lucy gray's voice is breathy, uneven and threatened with oncoming sobs, as she relievedly whispers, "you're alive."
you almost laugh through the beginning of your own tears, "of course i'm alive, you're alive."
"i am," she cries, "i am."
you smile tearily, wiping away lucy gray's tears as they fall, "you're home."
"i'm home," she repeats, and leans further into you, until most of her body weight rests against you, and her legs give out as you hold her close.
"i can't—" you can barely even begin to explain how much you've missed her, and find yourself closing your mouth before you can finish the sentence. she's the one who could have died — should have died — the last thing you want to do right now is make her feel guilty.
you settle on the reply of, "you're so strong," but are met with the fervent shaking of her head and a more desperate grip around you where her arms now wrap and cling to your shoulders.
"i'm not," she sobs, "i'm not, i'm not."
now, you fully understand the gravity of just how much the world has separated the two of you. you don't know how lucy gray truly feels, nor ever how it might feel to be home as if nothing is amiss after fighting for her life.
so you don't reply — you couldn't summon a word to your tongue even if you wanted to — and instead hum a song to her; one that didn't exist until now with it's jumbled tune from your misremembering and creative liberties, but one that you recite through your own waterworks for as long as lucy gray keeps crying.
beyond the darkest nighttime, you still hum comfortingly to her, even when her head finally hits her pillow but she cannot close her eyes. you hum to her, with her head in your lap and eyes wide open, and you would keep doing it for days onwards if it meant she'd start to feel better.
