Okay so

Not gonna lie

every time I see/hear people talk about how Irredeemable John Mulaney's association with Dave Chappelle is... I just want to ask when that was in regards to the general timeline of his relapse into drug abuse.

Because iirc those happened fairly close together?

And it would not surprise me if "John made some bad choices in regards to his opener" overlapped with "John made many bad choices because he was not fully engaged with reality anymore and in the throes of a physical and mental health crisis."

Not in a "he is not at all responsible for anything he did" way, especially if he's not done much to support trans rights since then… but if he was coked up and taking pills then I feel like there are much worse things he could have been doing than inviting a highly controversial comedy legend to open for him.

(Like cheating on Anna Marie Tendler, though from what I hear, people are also theorizing that it's possible Olivia Munn took advantage of him during his addiction or recovery? Unclear.)

But anyway, yeah, I'd like someone who's more familiar with the timeline to actually place the incidents in relation to each other.

(I'm watching the SNL 50th anniversary special and I keep thinking about how sharply his face and general appearance changed after the relapse and recovery.)
