Serge Lifar in Scherazade, a ballet which he interpreted one evening during he display of Draghilew’s Ballets Russes. Serge Lifar was born in Kiev in 1905, started studying ballet in Russia in Bronislava Nijinska’s school. In 1923 he succeeded in joining Diaghilew’s Ballets Russes in Paris and was immediately engaged. Very quickly he became the star of the company. His natural grace and ability made him unforgettable in La Chatte, Ode, L’Apollon Musagète, and La Fille Prodigue. In 1930 he became star-dancer and ballet-master at the Paris Opera. His taste and great experience brought back the real prestige to the French ballet. He produced several extraordinary ballets: Icare, David Triomphant, Entre Deux Rondes, Le Chevalier et La Damoiselle, Suite en Blanc, and at the same time formed a new generation of french dancers. Hello and welcome to my Week 2 blog post!

I was immediately drawn in to this photo when browsing the internet due to the overall shininess of the glass and water, constructed by deep greens in the forest background. I have always been a fan of objects that appear icy or misty, I think it fulfills my obsession with satisfyingly smooth textures and.... fairies. 

Upon further research, I learned that this was a photo taken in 2006 during a temporary installation where artist David Chatt placed his sand cast glass pieces in the Dunn Gardens of Seattle Washington. 

Lately, I have been loving all types of art that appear futuristic because I feel like everyone has been loving glitter, metallics, and organic, colorful designs opposed to an era of neutrals that we previously emerged from. It feels very modern, like we are living in the future! This photo makes me feel the same. 

As a reminder, my name is Maddie and I am a student from Texas State University majoring in Digital Media Innovation and minoring in Art. This blog is an archive for a project where I am collecting others’ work that inspires me, and sharing it. Thanks for following along!
