Davrin week day 2
Eyes of an eagle, roar of a lion, heart of a halla
I also paired this piece with @thedissonantverses weekend writing challenge. The prompts were the lyric “I told you not to get lost in the wild” and migraine.
CW: pregnancy, in case that’s not your thing.
Under the cut, approximately 1500 words.
Or read on ao3 here
==
Esha groaned and stretched. She must have fallen asleep here on the couch. She sat up slowly, rubbing her forehead. Her migraine had improved, but not by much. The overwhelming pounding was reduced to a constant ache. She supposed that was something. How could this be happening? Again? “I’m a Grey Warden,” he’d said. “I’ll almost certainly never be able to have children of my own,” he said. “One time must be a miracle, surely it can’t happen again,” he’d said. Though Emmrich had agreed with him on that count. And yet here she was. With Glandival just over 2, and another on the way. She tried not to be bitter towards the children or Davrin, but it was so hard. She hadn’t wanted or expected to be a mother. She barely knew how to handle the one they already had, and now another was on its way.
As she was coming more fully awake, she started to realize the room was very quiet. When she’d laid down and closed her eyes, she could hear Glandival playing in the room. Little wooden animals were strewn about the floor, but the girl was nowhere to be seen. Esha stood and glanced around the room. Typically it was easy to spot Glandival because she shared Esha’s bright pink curly hair, however, there was no pink to be seen. Fighting a rising panic, she ran through the rest of the cabin. It wasn’t very big as Davrin had built it when it was just the two of them, so it didn’t take her long. Icy fear gripped her as she realized Glandival wasn’t inside the house.
She needed to get Davrin, and together the pair of them would surely be able to find their missing daughter. She ran out the open front door, heading straight to Davrin’s workshop, calling for Glandival the whole way. Davrin must have heard the edge of panic in Esha’s voice, and he came out to meet her.
“Please tell me that Glandival is with you!” she said breathlessly.
“Last I saw her, she was playing in the cabin with you,” he replied.
“Davrin! It was only supposed to be a minute! My headache, but I don’t know where she is Davrin! She was gone when I woke up!” Esha explained in a rush. But her frantic run to Davrin and the panic threatening to close her throat left her unsteady on her feet. She swayed and Davrin reached out to steady her.
“Hey, I think maybe you should sit down. I can get you some water and then go find Glandival. She can’t have gotten far,” said Davrin, clearly attempting to keep his tone light. Still. Esha saw the slight furrow to his brow and the way he started scanning the area.
“No!” She barked. “I will not sit, and you will not get me water. I am not an invalid, just pregnant. Again. No, I am finding my daughter.” She tried to stomp off but instead, swayed unsteadily again. The migraine was making her head spin. The spinning brought on a fresh wave of nausea so intense that she couldn’t fight it. She managed to push off Davrin and dropped to her knees, throwing up in the grass. Davrin didn’t miss a beat. He knelt down beside her and rubbed slow circles on her back.
It was soothing. But instead of making her feel better, it fueled a building anger inside her. She was angry at Davrin for getting her pregnant, even though everyone kept assuming it was a fluke. She was angry at Davrin for being so perfect. He was the perfect partner and the perfect father. Glandival adored him, while she fought Esha on everything. She was angry that she wasn’t naturally a good mother, that she had to work hard at all of it. It was easy to soothe random artifacts, but nearly impossible to soothe a crying baby. She was angry that her body seemed to betray her, making her incredibly ill as soon as she fell pregnant.
“Will you please just sit, and rest? I’ll go grab Assan, and we’ll find Glandival, whatever it takes,” Davrin said softly. The compassion on his face had hot, angry tears pricking her eyes. The migraine was finally gone after vomiting, but now she was gong to cry? She didn’t want to risk letting the tears go, so instead of answering she simply stood, intending to continue the search. Davrin gave the smallest of sighs. She couldn’t blame him. She didn’t like herself very much right now either.
Davrin stood and held out his hand, offering it to Esha. She let herself meet his eyes then. There was just love in the brown depths, tinged with an edge of worry. The tears broke free then, rolling down her face. Davrin reached up with his free hand and wiped some away.
“Let’s go start with Assan. He can help us find her, and she might be more likely to go to him than either of us, if she hears the three of us looking for her,” he offered. Esha nodded wordlessly and they went towards the griffon barn. As they walked Davrin called for Glandival. Esha wanted to join in calling her, but the tears wouldn’t stop. So she just scanned the area for their daughter’s little pink haired head.
Davrin had only called for her a few times when they heard two distinct chirps from Assan, coming from the barn. Two chirps in quick succession meant he’d found something. Davrin’s eyes met Esha’s, asking if he could run ahead. Esha nodded and released his hand. Davrin jogged ahead to the barn and she immediately missed having his hand steadying more than just her balance.
Esha caught up and stepped into the barn and saw that Glandival had climbed into Assan’s nest. The child was happily babbling away to the griffon, with one carved wooden animal in each hand. Davrin had stopped just a little inside the door, smiling so fondly at the pair, seeming to not want to disturb them just yet. Esha however, could not contain herself.
“Glandival!” She cried, the immense relief bringing on a fresh set of tears.
Glandival turned and saw them then. She waved happily and said as clear as day, “Assan!” She went back to her play, as if they had simply come in to say hello.
Davrin chuckled and turned to gather Esha into his arms. She was full on sobbing, like a dam breaking during a flood and there was no stopping it.
Between hiccups and sobs Esha managed to say, “She even likes Assan better than me! She barely calls me Mamae and she says his name perfectly.” The sentence ended on a wail.
To his credit, he did not laugh or call her silly, though the corners of his mouth turned up ever so slightly as if he were fighting a smile. He pressed a kiss to her temple and let he cry until the tears started to slow before saying anything.
“Esha, I cannot begin to know how you must feel. I can see that it is not easy being pregnant and then giving birth. I also know that this isn’t how you expected your life to be. It isn’t what I thought my life would be either. I thought I’d be with the wardens until the end of my life. But then one day a spunky, pink haired elf showed up looking for me. And she fell in love with my griffon and then with me.” Esha snorted at this.
“Together we defeated a pair of ancient elvhen gods. We traveled all over Thedas. We’ve trained griffons. We flew on griffons! And then by some miracle, a wish I never dared to have came true, we were given Glandival. And now another one on the way.” He paused to tilt her chin up so she could see his face. “You are so brave, and smart, and loving. You will figure this out. Glandival has the heart of a halla, she’s drawn to Assan. She doesn’t love him more than you.”
“Maybe. But she does love you more,” Esha interrupted.
Davrin was unable to contain his laugh that time. He looked over at their daughter and Assan, his face positively glowing with pride. He looked back down at Esha and his gaze softened with love for her, even as he smirked. “Yeah she does. BUT,” he talked louder to stop her interruption. “But, she does still love you. You’re her Mamae and she needs you. I love you and need you too. I’m sorry I didn’t know you weren’t feeling well. I would have taken Glandival so you could lay down and rest.”
“I didn’t want to ask you to watch her. I should be able to take care of my own child myself,” she scoffed.
“It’s okay to ask me for help. We’re a team. Where you are, there I am, ready to be there for you. Okay?” Esha nodded in reply, afraid if she said anything the tears would start again.
“You go rest, I’ll stay with these two, and keep them out of trouble. But please take it easy. We will figure out how to do this. Okay? Tomorrow is a new day.”
==
Glandival means wish in elvhen, which I thought was super cute but couldn’t work it into this piece in a way that felt natural.
I didn’t mean for this to be so much about Esha, but she had a lot of feelings so I went with it.
@datvcompanionweeks thanks for running such a fun event.

Okay, I really wasn't planning on participating in any Neve/Lucanis discourse in a serious way, but I have just bumped into something Ive not seen mentioned.
I don't really have strong feelings on Neve/Lucanis because atm I'm not a real Lucanismancer. To me it was just another DA backround romance, which by and large I've not found any to be done well or particularly compelling. I am sitting on a solid neutral for the previous background romances, and this one is cooking up to be the same way.
However, this is the first DA game where I actually intentionally tried to go for a love triangle dynamic. The character I was roleplaying is an Ingellvar, and I wanted her abandonment issues to manifest in a slightly unhealthy need to be loved at all cost. So I had her messily down bad for any scrap of affection either Davrin or Lucanis tossed her way. For a good chunk of playing, my mindset was literally "whichever one makes the first definitive move will be the winner because she is a stray puppy who desperately wants to be taken home." Davrin won. I am very happy with that outcome because they're absolutely precious together.
That being said, I played through an equal amount of both romances before locking in. I got to the almost kiss with Lucanis. They had deep soulful eye contact on sevral occasions. I never took him out with Neve just to make sure nothing was starting in the background.
And the SECOND I locked in with Davrin, I get the gooseberry pie scene with Lucanis. Apparently, this entire time he's been harboring deep yearningful feelings for Neve despite my last cutscene with him being the almost kiss.
There was zero reaction from him over the fact my character had lead him on. The game just pivoted to pretending those cutscenes didnt happen between my character and him, and my character has been encouraging him to pursue Neve this whole time.
I'm not really upset that he still gets with Neve if you flirted with him at some point. It's not that I want the poor man single and pining for my character the rest of his life. But I am thinking back to DAO when your companions would call you out on your two timing. I was intentionally roleplaying this as a character flaw. And for the game to basically "reset" the narrative and erase some of the only roleplay options I have been able to pursue is really frustrating.
Baseline, I think there should have been some reaction. That being said, I do think the two characters in particular that I was going back and forth between should have warranted their own special brand of reactivity given they have some of the only companion conflict in the story.

It wasn't long after Weisshaupt that the timid and mournful condolences started rolling through to Rook. It started with Emmerich, and of course the necromancer would be the first and least painful to address. Then it trickled down to Neve, Harding, and timid Bellara. Taash simply clapped his shoulder and shook their head. Lucanis, undoubtedly the most awkward, at least brought Rook a slice of freshly made cake that he admittedly made in a spiral of depression.
Rook started in on the cake in his room. Maybe it was him. He never was very good with pity, and was always one to make a joke or brush it off. Rook sighed heavily as he picked at the bits with the most frosting. Varric trusted the team to him, and he had to be sure he wasn't letting them down. Now more than ever they needed a leader who wasn't going to crumble after a loss. They needed to be stronger. They needed Rook to be stronger.
“Rook.” Davrin's low timbre startled Rook out of his thoughts. He cursed himself as he nearly leapt to his feet, hiding the cake behind him like contraband. Maybe he was a coward, but he was not ready to address the situation with Lucanis and Davrin just yet.

Spring Dance
That dance idea that was plaguing my mind yesterday had me write this
The Veil Jumpers had sent an invitation to the Veilguard to attend their Spring Celebration at the camp. Bellara had been looking forward to this before everything happened but she didn’t want her excitement to make the others feel like they had to attend if they didn’t want to.
Rook, however, had no such reservations.
“It’s an important celebration in Dalish culture.” Rook said to the group. “To reject this invitation would border on offensive.”
Bellara opened her mouth to disagree – Rook was exaggerating – but Rook looked at her and subtly told her to shh with a small smirk on her face and she closed it once more.
Davrin rolled his eyes. A smirk also played on his face at Rook’s antics.
The Spring Celebration at one point was probably something that was important to their people but now it was just a tradition that each clan did in their own way. He couldn’t deny that he was curious on how the Veil Jumpers celebrated.
Neve’s eyebrow was raised. “Is it truly that important? We still have a lot on our plate.”
“To the Dalish, yes.” Rook affirmed. “To me, Davrin, and Bellara, yes.”
“The Grey Wardens are not big on Dalish celebrations…it has been a while since I’ve been able to properly celebrate any of the seasons changing.” Davrin admitted.
Rook held out her hand. “See? It is absolutely essential that our dear Davrin is no longer deprived of his culture.”
Harding snorted.
“Look,” Rook put her hands down. “We have been working very hard. But right now, we are waiting. This will be a great way to blow off some steam so we don’t go stir crazy.”
“I am always down for a party.” Taash said after a long moment of quiet deliberation amongst the group.
“It would be nice to turn my brain off for a bit.” Harding added.
Rook looked over at Neve, waggling her eyebrows. Neve rolled her eyes and tried to repress her grin.
“Yes, fine. It does sound fun.”
Rook clapped her hands. “Hah and Emmrich I already know you’re coming.”
Emmrich’s mouth fell open. “What gave you that assumption?”
Rook raised an eyebrow. “Because Uncle Strife will be there.”
“Ah, yes, right.” Emmrich blushed.
“Rook, you really shouldn’t keep calling him Uncle Strife.” Bellara said.
“And have my Mamae strike me from the Fade?” Rook said.
Bellara sighed at her.
“Lucanis?” Rook looked over at him. It unnerved him how wide her grin was. It looked a lot like Spite’s whenever he wanted to pull mischief.
“Alright.” Lucanis agreed.
Rook whooped. “Amazing, we’ll leave for Arlathan in the morning.”
The day had been filled with fun.
The Veil Jumper camp had been decorated with the different Dalish symbols of spring, especially those that would have been considered sacred to Andruil, June, and Mythal as they were seen as the deities designated for Spring. Symbols for Ghilan’ain would have been there but considering the state of events…it was best not to evoke her.
Archery and dagger targets had been put up. There was an area where some were weaving. Garlands of flora were being made along with crowns. Plants being crushed and mixed into paints. Music was filling the air, mixing with the aromas of food being cooked.
When the Veilguard had arrived, the group immediately broke up to explore.
But no matter what thing he had been doing, Davrin often found his gaze wandering to Rook.
She had come wearing a white-to-light-green ombre pants with open sides that showed the shorts underneath and a watching halter shirt that tied at her neck. Her arms, abdomen, and thighs were exposed and she covered them with painted pictures of halla, nugs, flowers, vines, butterflies and the like. Her dark hair was in a half up braid that she placed flowers within.
Harding, Rook, and Bellara had an archery contest that saw Bellara coming away as the victor. Rook had good aim, but she had locked eyes with him for a second and she moved her bow just slightly off.
Even when Davrin couldn’t see her, he could still hear her laugh on the air at random moments.
One thing he didn’t appreciate was the blatant bitterness that Strife treated Rook with. The older elf seemed insistent on being a dark cloud on Rook’s sunshine.
Bellara told him that Strife was actually more tolerant towards Rook lately. She wasn’t sure if it was because Rook was persistent in annoying the man or if it was because of the time Rook spent away from the camp saving the world.
By late afternoon, Rook had made enough garlands for everyone in the Veilguard and had given it to them with a kiss on their cheeks. Davrin got a second kiss on the lips but she slipped away from him before he could deepen it. He got her back later by making her a garland and kissing her on the mouth. She giggled but kissed him back.
Taash told them to find a tent.
Davrin had it bad for Rook. He’s had it bad for a while. He waited for the familiar pit in his stomach to open, the one that let him know he got way too close and the worry that he would lose it all…but it didn’t come. Watching her at this celebration didn’t make him melancholy about a future he couldn’t have, it made him hopeful to have this future with her.
Before long, night had fallen. The bonfire was lit and the Spring Ritual started. Gratitude and promptings of self-reflection were given for the past. Offerings and prayers were given for continued guidance and abundance for the future.
Then more feasting and the true fun began as the music of the band changed.
Rook had joined into nearly every dance only stopping every now and again to eat or drink something. Much of the dancing was merely to the melody. But when there were choreographed dances, Rook didn’t hesitate to grab the closest unsuspecting Veilguard member. There was little resistance once the elven wine started coursing through people’s systems. More often, it was Bellara who joined her.
Davrin danced a few of them with her but he preferred watching. The Grey Warden training kept him on guard for any Darkspawn despite there being reassurances that the Veil Jumpers had rotating watches.
He watched Rook drag poor Emmrich out for a dance. The dance was a couples one and while he didn’t feel jealousy – Rook has not shown any interest in anybody else since they officially got together – there was a tinge of worry as he could see the mischief in her eyes. Especially when he spotted Strife making his way from the other side of the bonfire towards them.
Rook, however, saw him coming before Emmrich did, who seemed nearly frozen with uncertainty as she walked around him, her hand trailing across his abdomen and back. When Strife reached them, she merely stepped back and let the man take over.
Davrin didn’t know that Emmrich could get that red as Strife’s hands deftly moved him through the dance.
Rook just about skipped over to him before plopping down next to him, a large smile on her face, her skin glistening with sweat. The paint was staying in place. Davrin wondered what it would take to smudge the pictures.
“Want some more wine?” He leaned over to murmur in her ear.
She nodded. “Yes please.”
She went to grab her mug, but he moved it from her. She watched as he drank some, his eyes not leaving hers. He grabbed her face and gently pulled her towards him. With a smile, her eyes slid closed as her mouth opened and he passed the wine from his mouth to hers.
Once she swallowed, she licked at his lips. He gave her a kiss, his tongue sliding next to hers. He desperately wanted to go somewhere with her. But he was patient.
The next song started, and Rook broke the kiss.
“Come on hunter.” She said, pulling him to the bonfire.
He knew this song and this dance. It was a song for Andruil and the hunt. It was danced with a partner or multiple partners. It was a push and pull type of dance and it changed depending on how many partners participated.
Many of the elves jumped in for this song.
Bellara had pulled Neve to be adjacent to them. Strife and Emmrich were across from them on the other side of the bonfire. Rook smiled playfully at Davrin as they began the dance.
They started with their wrists connected, Rook’s palm facing up while his was facing down, and they walked in a circle, eyes on each other, mimicking a prey and predator eyeing each other.
Everyone else had disappeared around them.
Rook flicked her palm down, turning to pull away and Davrin grabbed onto her wrist, pulling her back.
One hand went to her waist, while the other slid from her wrist, fingers ghosting over her arm, down to rest on the other side of her waist. Her arms came up above her head as he spun her around to face him.
Rook slid her leg up his thigh to lock her knee around his and as she leaned back, Davrin moved one of his hands to support her back, while the other went down to her hip. He could feel her pulsing against his thigh despite the clothes separating them, and he clenched at the fabric. When he snapped her back up, her eyes were darkened, the bonfire highlighting the desire in them.
She unhooked her leg from his, dropped her arms behind her back, and stepped back. Davrin, unwillingly, dropped his hand from her hip, placing his arms behind his back as well and stepped in time with the music. They were back to circling one another. Their wrists locked once more. The movements going back to the first steps.
But in this 2nd round, when he pulled Rook back, Davrin didn’t spin her around. Her back stayed against his chest. She lulled her head back to rest against his shoulder as they moved their hips as one.
He guided her wrist to rest on his other shoulder, his other hand sliding over her waist once more, feeling the dried paint there. He ghosted his lips over her neck, inhaling her scent. Sweat, moss, and the flowers in her hair.
Davrin could feel her pulse as he put a hand over her throat, the music coming to an abrupt stop, the prey caught.
Rook’s lips brush against his ear, “Emma salin.”
Not needing to hear more, he picked her up. Rook threw her head back and laughed.
Rook guided them to a clearing that was a good distance from the camp but hidden by bushes so they’d have privacy. There was an opening in the tree tops that allowed the area to be partially lit by the moon so they could still see each other.
As soon as Davrin set her down, his lips were on hers, his hands searching for the tie at the base of her neck to undo her top.
Their mouths moved together in desperation.
Once Rook’s top came undone, Davrin’s hands groped her breasts, playing and twisting her nipples as his mouth nipped and licked at her throat. Her gasps spilled from her as she clung to his shirt, her mind focusing only on him.
Rook pulled his shirt off and he made quick work of her pants. She knelt down and captured his lips with hers again. He chuckled as her hands went for the hem of his pants.
“Impatient much?” He joked.
“Oh, you want to go slow?”
Instead of pulling his pants down like she (and he) wanted, she kept her hands on the surface and slid her hand up and down his thigh, just caressing over his bulge.
She smirked when he picked her up once more, wrapping her legs around him, and laid her down on the soft grass.
He grinded his clothed cock against her bare cunt causing her to dig her nails into his shoulders and let out a moan. He could feel how wet she was for him through his pants.
“Davrin, I need you. Now.” She said, rolling her hips against his to further make her point.
Davrin tugged at his pants just enough to free himself. He gave himself a few strokes before rubbing the head of his cock against her pussy, coating it with her slick. Rook pulled him towards her with her heels to try and get him to put it in already, her impatience obvious.
“So impatient.” He nipped at her ear, before pushing his cock all the way into her in one go.
Rook let out a relieved breath against his ear and, combined with the feel of her warmth around him, he shivered. He didn’t make them wait long before he started moving.
“Fuck, yes Davrin.” Rook moaned from beneath him. Her hands were gripping his waist as he pounded into her, slow deep strokes that knocked her breath out. “Gods you feel so good inside me.”
Davrin moved one of her legs so it was over his shoulder and picked up the pace. Rook moaned as this position allowed him to hit her in that one delicious spot over and over.
His pace was unrelenting. As much as he loved hearing the filthy things that fell from Rook’s mouth, in this moment he didn’t want her to be able to form enough thought to say anything but his name.
Which even that she was having trouble doing. Every time she opened her mouth, only air came out.
“You like how I fuck you?” He said to her, leaning forward causing a delicious stretch in her thigh.
Rook whimpered as she nodded her head vigorously. He slid a finger between them to find her clit. She gasped as he pressed firm circles on it. He hissed when her walls clenched around him.
Rook was already pretty close before Davrin had started playing with her clit, the feeling building up with each thrust. But after only a few circles, her orgasm ripped through her. She screamed her release, arching her back up from the ground, her nails digging into the soil.
Davrin fucked her through her orgasm, slowing so he could enjoy the way her pussy gripped around his cock. He had watched her come undone with lidded eyes. And he wasn’t done with her yet.
When she had come down from her high, pushing his hand away from her clit, he released her leg, and leaned forward to kiss her while still thrusting into her slowly. The desperation to feel one another had tempered down into an eagerness to continue their union.
“Are you okay?” Davrin asked between kisses.
Rook nodded. “More than okay.”
“Can you keep going?”
Rook smiled against his lips. “I could go all night for you.”
“That’s my girl.” He gave her one more kiss before sitting back up. To their displeasure, he slid out of her.
But then he turned her to her stomach. Rook couldn’t help the glee that filled her as she pushed her hips up. This was her favorite position. True, her clit wouldn’t be played with but she felt like she could better feel the way his cock slid in and out of her.
Davrin’s hands went to her hips and he slid himself back into her. Rook dropped her head against the ground with a groan at the feeling.
He started slow again, relishing the way she felt. The softness of her ass under his hands. Rook met him thrust for thrust. Moans and words of praise fell from Davrin’s mouth as he stopped moving and watched Rook fuck herself on his cock.
Feeling the familiar coil, Davrin grabbed a hold of her waist and began pounding into her.
Rook’s moans turned into rhythmic ahs, her head dropping as it was taking all of her strength to keep from falling onto her chest. Davrin snaked a hand into her hair to her scalp and pulled her upright against him as he continued to fuck her.
Her sounds were magnified now as they released into the air around them.
“That’s right, scream for me.” Davrin said against her ear. Her pussy clenched again at his words. “Fuck Rook.”
He thrusted into her a few more times, stopping inside her for a moment, before pulling out as he came on the ground in front of them.
They were both panting as they came down from their high. They laid naked next to each other for a bit before making the decision to head back to the celebration. The sounds of music were still going.
If it was like any of the other Spring Celebrations, the Veil jumpers will be going until morning.
Rook sighed once they got their clothes back on. The ache in her body felt good.
Davrin gave her a kiss. “You okay?”
Rook wrapped her arms around her Warden, laying her head on shoulder. “Yes…I just hate when you pull out.”
Davrin laughed as he held her, giving her another kiss on the forehead. “I don’t trust either of us to remember to give you a potion.”
Rook leaned back to look at him. “Once this is all over, I wouldn’t mind not having to remember to do that at all.”
He smiled softly at her. “Yeah. I don’t think I would mind either.”

There was nothing easy about life in the Hossberg wetlands. The Blight was a relentless tide. They could fight it down but it would always inevitably rise up once more, encroaching on virgin territory and eating it alive. When Davrin asked Rook to help him with pushing it back from the village, his boss was all too eager to offer his assistance. Naturally, things went pear-shaped.
Wrote a thing because i love Davrin a Normal Amount. Minimal spoilers; I mention the fact that it's past act 1 literally once and without detail.

Another Poll
So I'm curious (since I cannot give up Davrin and pretty much planning to romance him with nearly all the factions), what factions do you like to romance him with?
Not ones you think would fit the narrative, like Wardens because of the conversations, but ones you actually enjoy romancing him the most as. For example - I like him and Mourn Watch Rook (so far) because they have an interesting dynamic (at the moment) and I like the idea of him just side-eyeing my Rook and Emmrich when they start geeking out about stuff LOL
(I did love my Warden/Davrin romance, especially the Blight Eruption, it would have been nice if all romanced factions got a version in comforting Davrin at this part but eh, guess my imagination will just have to do)
So - poll time. What factions do you like to romance Davrin the most with and why? Feel free to drop a comment, repost/message or even just use tags.
(another thing - does DavRook work as a pairing tag for them? Cause I need a pairing tag for them)
(And yes, I'm still romancing Emmrich, Davrin just made me feel so guilty that I wasn't romancing him!!!)

I wish I could draw so I could do a picture of the scene that was in my head. I don't have the skill under my belt however so here's this fanfic instead! This was the fic I mentioned in this post.
Summary:
Rook, Davrin, and Emmrich agree to help Evka and Antoine out with some things in order to get some quiet time in the cave filled with Brona's Bloom after they've saved the world. It's well worth it.
Preview of fic:
Rook lowers the cup. They stare deep into the shaking liquid. What stares back in a face they finally recognize. The person they weren’t sure they wanted to become, but who Varric knew they could be. A hero.
An easy smile appears across the reflection. Here they are, after the blights, dreaming of a better future, with Davrin and Emmrich. Maybe they can have everything?
Varric would warn against such hopeful thinking. The world never stops taking. It was one of his many lessons, but he also always told them that if they were ever unsure to look into that handheld mirror and see the face of a hero.
They don’t really feel like a hero, but for now they’ll let themselves sit in their delusions and dream of a future where everything goes right and they never lose anyone again.
“To great stories!” Rook cheers, shoving their cup into the air as they push down the somberness of their thoughts.
Emmrich smiles softly. “To love stories, my dears.” His cup meets Falwyn’s.
Davrin pushes himself up off his side. He grabs his empty cup and taps it against theirs. “To peaceful moments like this,” Davrin looks around at all the flowers. His eyes linger on the three. “And to surviving the blight to end all blights!”

I am beyond blown away at how much love my Davrin fic, Thrill of the Hunt has received. It has been a really tough few months with rejection after rejection from literary agents making me doubt my writing skills, but y'all have given me so much confidence ❤️ Thank you a million times over for everyone who has read it!
If you want to check it out, I'll link it below. And thank you again!

I realize we're past October but I don't care XD I'm still doing DAtober! Today's prompt is Shadow featuring Davrin/Rook post Veilguard.
Rook reaches over, lacing his fingers with Davrin’s as they walk through Arlathan forest. The sun shines down, warming his skin and probably leaving behind even more freckles across his face.
Two Grey Wardens living in the forest with their feathery son isn’t where Rook thought he’d find himself after everything that happened. If he’s honest, he expected he’d probably end up dead at Solas’ hand, but he can’t say he’s disappointed by this turn of events. Especially not when it gave him Davrin. And Assan, of course!
A startled noise leaves Rook’s lips as Davrin tugs his hand. One moment, they’re having a casual stroll and the next moment Rook is plastered against Davrin’s strong, broad chest. His entire body goes from zero to sixty in the matter of seconds.
He looks up into Davrin’s eyes, finding them soft. When they first met, they never got this soft. It’s amazing how much they’ve both changed in the small amount of time they’ve known each other.
“I know you didn’t get enough sleep last night,” Davrin says, his deep voice washing over Rook and making him shiver without his permission.
“I’d have happily stayed up all night long with you, if you’d have asked.”
Davrin smirks. “That’s not what I mean and we both know it.”
Rook wants to make a joke. More often than not, that’s how he deals with all the bullshit thrown his way. Can’t be affected by the horrors if you look the horrors in the eye and laugh. But the look in Davrin’s eyes makes him pause.
Letting out a long breath, Rook feels himself melt against Davrin’s chest. “Nightmares.”
Davrin nods. “I thought as much. Wanna talk about it?”
“Later. If that’s okay. I just wanna enjoy being in the forest while we’re here.”
“A distraction? I think I can handle that,” he breathes out, leaning down and kissing Rook’s lips. His lips feel so perfectly planted against Rook’s. His head swims, his body heats, and he’s not too proud to admit his knees even grow a little weak.
One of Davrin’s hand moves down to his ass. Oh, two can play at this game. Rook reaches up and runs his fingers over the tip of Davrin’s pointed ear. They’re both panting against each other’s mouths.
A shadow passes overhead and a moment later, there’s a friendly squawk.
Rook and Davrin pull apart, smiling as Assan flies down to them. He lands between them, nudging them both and asking for pets which Rook is more than happy to give.
“I swear he gets bigger every single day we’re here. The forest agrees with him.”
Davrin gives Rook a soft smile. “It’s only a matter of time before you’re bribing him to go for a fly.”
Rook grabs Assan’s face. “You’ll let me ride on your back, right, Assan?”
Assan responds with an excited squawk, flapping his wings and nodding his head. Davrin and Rook both chuckle. Everything was worth it for this. For them.
