Byler Week 2023 - Day 7: Soulmates AU

At the age of five, Mike finds out that he lives in quite a peculiar world. It’s the day before kindergarten and when his parents sit him down in the living room, Mike doesn’t know how to feel: his mother carries worry in her gleaming eyes, while his father looks like he’d rather be anywhere but there. “Mike. Do you remember when you asked us about the tattoo you’ve seen on Grandma Julie’s wrist?” Mike nods and a whole new world opens up for him. A series rewrite where Mike and Will fall in love in a world made of soulmates and monsters.

But there's more flames, more pain, and suddenly Will's entire body is vibrating—no, he's seizing, blood-curdling screams that sound nothing like him escaping from his mouth.

Hell is meant to be cold, but they keep wanting the heat. And that is not how he likes it.

(It's even more chaos than before, the way Joyce is cradling Will, yelling at Bob to step on the goddamn brakes and get them to HNL faster; the way the quiet streets of Hawkins are disrupted by speeding cars, the way there are actual Demogorgon-like creatures running around beneath the town as they speak.

But all Mike can think about is the way his entire body ached the moment Will was on the ground, as if his lungs were on fire and he was being burned, too.)

Or, the one where Mike and Will are soulmates who feel each other's pain.

I have a migraine today so might not be on much, and didn’t manage to finish ch6 of AtTitW for soulmate day (since it’s kinda my soulmate series) so instead have a choppy deleted scene from chapter two!

It’s something to research. There’s something comforting about Will and Mike sitting together, mostly in silence, flipping through novels and textbooks. When these occasions happen, it tends to eventually evolve into cuddling. Neither of them can find it in them to mind.

“There’s a footnote in the Star Trek movie novel,” Mike offers at one point. “‘The human concept of 'friend' is most nearly duplicated in Vulcan thought by the term 't'hy'la' which can also mean 'brother' and 'lover'.’”

Will smirks at him. “Is that about Kirk and Spock?”

“…Yes…”

Will runs in and slams a book on the desk. Mike jumps in his seat and then laughs. Will is beaming. “I found something!”

“Plato talks about how, in Greek Mythology, there were humans who were once beings that had two heads, four arms, and four legs. And there were something like three genders—man, woman, and androgynous. I think corresponding to, gay, lesbian, and straight. But the gods were angry at their hubris, or something, and decided to cut these humans in two. Forcing them to spend their lives searching for their other halves.”

It’s not exactly like their situation, but it’s close enough that they decide to stop searching. The idea that even so far back people thought gay people could be in love—could be soulmates, brings them both comfort.

Personally i’m not too big on like Soulmate AUs, so I wanted to go in a different direction for today’s prompt, more just something about the concept of soulmates in general. The quote is from Dark Crisis: Worlds Without A Justice League — Green Arrow #1 💚

I know about the umbrella meaning for a long time,since it’s used as a trope in a lot of anime/manga,but for some reason it didn’t crossed my mind when reading the lyrics and now my mind is blown,and im literally screaming crying throwing up

This post is for you. To thank each one of you.

This week has been CRAZY. It has been better than we could ever imagine. We felt so many emotions. We laughed, we cried, we smiled, and we felt the tension and the electricity, thanks to you guys. And we were glad you were here with us to feel it too, crazy together, right?

This week has been so important to us. We received so much love and we appreciated every part of it. All of your posts, all the interactions, the Watch Parties, EVERYTHING! We love this fandom and we're grateful to be a part of it and to see so many talented and cool people working together.

Seeing everyone united and helping each other was so great. We were so thrilled about this week, but also nervous, so it's comforting to read everyone's words and know that people have enjoyed it.
