hello and welcome to the first ride the cyclone ship weeks!

this is an event that is going to run from august 6th to august 19th. as the name suggests, it will focus on romantic relationships in ride the cyclone. each day will have a different prompt!

because of course they didn't. when did they ever want to hear what she had to say outside of the warehouse?

mischa hummed beside them, tracing shapes on the back of his hand. "you're being quiet, Зірко моя."

ricky shrugged, leaning into their partner. her hands itched in her lap, but they held them still in favor of closing their eyes.

mischa shifted, wrapping an arm around his partner. "this is unlike you." he stated flatly, "are you okay?"

ricky forced their muscles to relax. mischa was always gentle about it, wasn't he? not like ocean or noel who brushed her off so aggressively.

she began to sign. 'i just dont feel like anyone wants to listen to me now. since we got out the hospital.'

mischa let out a breath, and ricky folded their hands back into their lap. "has ocean been a-" he cut himself off, adjusting his language, ricky assumed, "has she been mean?"

ricky shrugged again. 'no worse than normal. its just a combination of everyone, i think.' she grabbed one of his hands, intertwining their fingers.

mischa nodded, running his free hand through their hair. "would you.. want to talk to me?" he cleared his throat awkwardly. "will listen."

by god ricky was in love. she had fallen hard in the first place, watching him sing for talia of all things, but the more time they spent with him the more butterflies seemed to appear in their stomach.

she was almost tempted to start naming them. she couldn't escape the constant fluttering somehow making her nauseous and sleepy at the same time.

they picked absently at a sticker on their wheelchair- a lion skull- given to her by penny a week after the accident.

'i don't want to annoy you, or anything. i know z-o-l-a-r isn't quite for everyone.'

mischa chuckled, shaking his head. "Зірко моя, is not for everyone, but it is for me, okay? i enjoy zolar."

ricky felt their stomach flip. they didn't want to overstep.. but he was offering, wasn't he? she decided she would name the biggest butterfly natalia. in honor of the girl who opened their eyes to the wonderful man they could call their boyfriend. even if she didn't know that part.

she began to sign, starting slow. if he wanted to back out, he could. instead, he leaned forward, gaze trained on their hands.

she bit back a smile, and sped up, starting to sign more intently. more excitedly.

mischas gaze softened, now watching both rickys hands and their face. she might not do it often, but whenever they really got excited about something, especially like this, mischa couldn't help but feel honored.

i love these two so much you have no idea-

i started shipping them early on during the debut arc, i didn't think it would go anywhere but boy i couldn't be more wrong. when patrick called ricky his most indispensable person i was beaming. now they straight up call each other soulmates in canon (i feel like they're better in the most recent chapters after they started being more openly affectionate). i'd kill for more fanfics about them

i can see them as either romantic or platonic, but they're so devoted to each other i feel like if their feelings are platonic they'd want more of a qpr than an average friendship. that being said, i've seen fans be really weird about this, saying they're obviously straight and obviously "just friends" and that ricky obviously loves lou so much more than he cares about patrick and huh... i'm not saying they can't be both straight, but if they are, they still have something going on. honestly you'd have to willfully ignore huge portions of their canon interactions to portray them as your average "two bros chilling in a bathtub five feet apart cause they're not gay" like this portion of the fandom seems to want to

i find patrick's crush on emilyko really cute, specially the positive impact it had on his character development, so i can see the appeal even though they're not my favorites

i colored the polycule square because if they ever got together in the future you can't tell me emilikate and patricky wouldn't still be a thing. wlw/mlm solidarity for the same reason

my girls, i love them so much!!! 🖤 if you've followed me for long enough you probably noticed that even though i still love emilikate now, i used to be absolutely obsessed with them back in the day. i even got my url from a kate quote talking about emilyko! their personalities just go so well together and they're so sweet to each other in canon, they give off "childhood friends who get married as adults" vibes imo 🖤🖤🖤 they totally have a mutual crush going on

i've read most of the fanfics i could find about them and i'd totally read more, there's so much to write about. usually their fics are cute and fluffy and sure i like that, but i feel like they have angst potential too! (for example imagine the pre debut arc told from kate's pov, taking into account that she has memories of outside the manor, that she met emilyko before, and that she knows emilyko has been brainwashed. see what i'm talking about?)

...before the backstory reveal, i used to headcanon them both as trans girls, but then we saw kate being named as a baby 🤡 i still like the idea though, even if it needs some adjustments to be canon compliant. maybe emilyko could be nonbinary while kate's a closeted trans boy, who knows. the possibilities are endless

THE WILD BLUE YONDER!

Lucy & Aviation

Thanks to Orville and Wilbur Wright, the world became a smaller place and travel by air become as commonplace as train or car travel. Lucille Ball and her many characters had lots of reasons to take to the ‘friendly skies’ - here are just a few. 

Orville and Wilbur Wright were inventors and pioneers of aviation. In 1903 the Wright brothers achieved the first powered, sustained and controlled airplane flight; they surpassed their own milestone two years later when they built and flew the first fully practical airplane. The Wrights were mentioned several times in the Lucyverse:

Olin Howland (Mr. Skinner in “First Stop” 1955) ~ As a young man he learned flying from the Wright Brothers.

“Speech for a Civic Organization” (1949) ~ Liz intends to speak about the Wright Brothers, despite her favorite husband’s objections.

“The Good Years” (1962) ~ Orville and Wilbur were mentioned in the special starring Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda.

“Swing Out Sweet Land” (1970) ~ Rowan and Martin played the Wright Brothers and Lucy voiced the Statue of Liberty in John Wayne’s TV special celebrating American history.  

As a busy radio, film and television star, Lucille Ball was constantly photographed boarding and disembarking from aircraft. 

1930′s ~ Young model Lucille Ball holds a model airplane for a photo shoot. 

May 1938 ~ Publicists created fascinating and completely untrue backgrounds for Hollywood stars. In this article, Monroe Lathrop claims that Lucille Ball was a skilled aviatrix who shot crocodiles while flying over a jungle river. 

“On a visit to Colombia, Lucille, avid for new adventure, went with friends Into the jungle, meeting a flood that had swollen the streams and overrun the banks with huge crocodiles. Instead of heeding the natives' warning, Lucille went to wireless station, ordered an airplane and rifles, and spent a day pumping lead into the big green saurians. Natives rewarded her with a generous helping of crocodile steak later.”

Five Came Back (1939) ~ Nine passengers from all walks of life and a crew of three take off from Los Angeles, bound for Panama City, but a sudden storm blows them off course and causes the plane to crash in the Amazon jungle. Lucille Ball played passenger Peggy Nolan. The B film helped Ball launch an A list career.

June 1943 - Newspapers reported that Jimmy Cagney had christened a B-17 bomber named The Lucille Ball. After it was scrapped due to battle damage, a second bomber was christened The Lucille Ball in 1944. 

A Woman of Distinction (1950) ~ Lucille Ball appears in a cameo as herself, a jet-setting film star, in this Rosalind Russell / Ray Milland film. 

“Return Home From Europe” (1956) ~ To get back to New York in time to play the Roxy, the Ricardos and Mertzes fly home from Europe, rather than go by ship. Unable to whittle down her luggage allowance, Lucy is intent on smuggling a cheese aboard, disguising it as a baby. 

There are establishing shots of Pan American World Airways (PAA) President Clipper Service. The Clipper in the insert shot is named Bald Eagle. There are two insert shots of Pan Am aircraft: one taking off, and one in mid-flight. The DC-7C (nicknamed “seven seas”) first entered service for Pan Am in December 1955 and was dubbed “the zenith of piston-engine technology.” Pan Am had 27 DC-7Cs flying during 1956. By 1958, jet travel began to overtake propeller airplanes.

The interior of the aircraft was recreated on the Desilu soundstage. The PAA logo is visible on blankets and tote bags, items provided by Pan Am for the use of their name and images of their aircraft as well as possible other promotional consideration. 

“The Ricardos Visit Cuba” (1956) ~ While in Miami, the gang flies to Havana to visit Ricky’s family. 

The gang once again flies Pan American Airways, the same carrier they took home from Europe.  The airline folded in 1991.  

As with their previous flight, there is an establishing shot of the plane in the air and the interior was recreated on the Desilu soundstage. The set is basically the same one used in “Return Home from Europe”.  It also features PAA branded promotional items. 

“Lucy Goes To Alaska” (1959) ~ The Ricardos and Merztes fly to the brand new state of Alaska, where Ricky and Fred have bought some land and Ricky is doing a TV show with Red Skelton.  Although the action is set in and around Nome, the second unit footage was filmed in Lake Arrowhead, California, about 100 miles from Hollywood. The exteriors were done with doubles and none of the regular cast left their newly-purchased Desilu (formerly RKO) Studio. 

To get from Westport CT to Nome AK, the gang first flies United Airlines, then transfers to Alaska Airlines. There is establishing footage of both planes in mid-flight.

The set features a couple of travel posters for Alaska Airlines, enticing viewers to visit the 49th state for tourism. In the second half of the hour, a small propeller plane is introduced to rescue Red and Lucy from a blizzard.  

RED: “What’s that blue stuff?” ESKIMO PILOT: “Sky.” LUCY (To Red): “You act as though you’ve never seen sky before.” RED: “I haven’t. I live in Los Angeles.”

The plane is buried in a snowbank. Lucy pays an eskimo pilot $100 to fly her and Red to safety. 

While the plane in the snowbank was filmed in the Hollywood studio, the safe landing was done at Lake Arrowhead using actor doubles. 

“The Ricardos Go To Japan” (1959) ~ The final time we see the gang airborne is on a trip to Japan. Although there is a poster for Japan Airlines (JAL)  in the airport...

 According to the establishing footage of the jet in mid-air, the foursome travels  on United Airlines.

The Facts of Life (1960) ~ The film about two marrieds flirting with infidelity has Kitty Weaver (Lucille Ball) waiting at the airport where a United Airlines jet can be seen on the tarmac in the background. 

“Mr. & Mrs.” aka “The Lucille Ball Comedy Hour” (1964) ~ A comedy special in which Lucille Ball plays the head of a studio trying to track down Bob Hope to star in a show about husband and wife television stars. The first half concerns Lucy's tracking the elusive Hope all around the world. In San Francisco, there is establishing footage of a jet landing which was supplied courtesy of TWA, a carrier that went out of business in 2001.  

“The Victor Borge Comedy Theatre” (1962) & “Lucy Flies To London” (1966) ~ The unaired pilot for an unsold comedy anthology series hosted by Borge featured a sketch starring Gale Gordon and Lucille Ball as two strangers on a plan. 

It was filmed before “The Lucy Show” paired the two as a comedy duo. In the pilot, the characters were strangers. Gordon played a businessman and Ball a neurotic first-time flyer. 

When it came time for Lucy Carmichael to fly to London for the special “Lucy in London”, the writers realized they could recycle the script from the un-aired pilot for “The Lucy Show” episode. The dialogue is nearly identical, now with the added context that Mr. Mooney and Lucy are boss and secretary.

“Lucy in London” (1966) ~ An hour-long special set in England and filmed on location. The sequence involving Lucy de-planing from the Pan Am clipper jet had to be accomplished in between flights already on the tarmac at Heathrow. No planes were available to be grounded for a day of shooting. Coincidentally (or perhaps not) Pan Am was also the carrier when Lucy Ricardo flew home from Europe and from Miami to Havana on “I Love Lucy.”  

“Viv Visits Lucy” (1967) ~ To greet her old friend, Lucy meets her at the airport, where a backdrop shows jets on the tarmac. Lucy looks up and sees Viv’s flight approaching. 

LUCY: “Oh, look! Someone’s hanging out of the plane. It look like Viv!” PILOT: “That’s the landing gear.” LUCY: “Oh.” 

“Little Old Lucy” (1967) ~ When the 90 year-old president of the bank (Dennis Day) is in town and needs an escort to the bank’s banquet, Lucy is volunteered.  Lucy and Mr. Mooney meet him at the airport, where jets can be seen in the background. 

“Lucy and Carol Burnett: Part 1 & 2″ (1967) ~ Lucy and Carol Tilford (Carol Burnett) sign up to be flight attendants, then put on a variety show celebrating aviation. They are employed by the fictional Globe World Airlines. 

Instead of asking bachlor GWA VP Mr. Brenner if he would like coffee, tea or milk, Lucy says “coffee, tea or me”!  Earlier in 1967, the book Coffee Tea or Me? was published. It was the alleged memoirs of two stewardess and their romantic and sexual escapades in the air. The popularity of this book may be the reason for this episode.

Frustrated by Lucy and Carol's bungling, Mr. Brenner (Rhodes Reason) says “Is this any way to run an airline?”  The line gets a huge reaction from the studio audience. In 1963 a National Airlines TV commercial featured a flight attendant asking “Is this any way to run an airline? You bet it is!”  In 1966, singer Tom Paxton wrote and recorded a song with the same title.

In Part Two, their musical salute to aviation features Buddy Rogers and Richard Arlen, stars of the very first Academy-Award winning motion picture Wings (1929), a movie about flight. Coincidentally, on the same day this airline-themed episode premiered, the supersonic Concorde was unveiled in France. Also on this date, newspapers announced the crash of a twin-engine plane in Madison, Wisconsin that killed recording star Otis Redding and six others.   

The revue ends with “The Army Air Corps Song” with flight attendants and college boys perched on the wings of a bi-plane. 

“Lucy and the Great Airport Chase” (1969) ~ Filmed entirely on location at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Lucy and Harry get caught up in chasing down spies. Part of the chase takes them onto the tarmac with the jets.

“The Carol Burnett Show” (1969) ~ In a sketch, Lucy and Carol play flight attendnts and Harvey Korman plays a mysterious passenger with a Fidel Castro-like beard, cigars tucked in his breast pocket, and a Spanish accent. When this episode was aired, hijackings were in the news. 

“Lucy, the Sky Diver” (1970) ~ Trying to show her kids how dangerous their hobbies are, Lucy jumps from a plane!  Although there is second unit location footage of the plane and Lucy floating down on her parachute, Lucille Ball remained at the studio with a recreation of the aircraft and a simulated parachute. 

“Lucy, the Part-Time Wife” (1970) ~ Lucy and Harry go to the airport to meet an old flame of his (Carole Cook). The airport background shows jets on the tarmac. 

“Lucy Helps David Frost Go Night-Night” (1971) ~ Lucy takes an assignment accompanying David Frost on a transatlantic flight so that he can get some rest. Thanks to Lucy, his flight is anything but restful!  The first class section of a 747 was recreated for the episode. 

The jet seen in the stock footage of the airport is a Pan Am Boeing 747 with an upper deck first class lounge.

David Frost reckons that he has taken 346 air trips or traveled 1,853,000 miles!

Mame (1974) ~ At the end of the film, Auntie Mame waves goodbye to Patrick, has she flies off to her next adventure. 

“Lucy Gets Lucky” (1975) ~ Although Lucy Collins took the bus to Las Vegas to see her favorite star Dean Martin, at the end of the special she flies off into the sunset with him on his private jet. Dreams come true!

first off, it seems the writers love to make major seblos things happen off screen. examples include there pinning and officially getting together

where... where did all this tension come from? it has been light the past two episodes then bam, everything they say to each other is bitter. since when is seb jealous? the writers have so many other conflicts to talk about and they choose jealous seb? off all thing?!?! im honestly kind of disappointed because there are so many other things to talk about from previous episodes and instead they choose this?!?!?! hopefully this isn’t the only thing that is addressed next week, it cant be. they better talk about the constant “no seb” because its an issue. 

moral of the story is i hope the fight next episode isn’t about seb being jealous bc there is so much more to talk about

most popular multi-chapter:  I realize that I’ve actually posted almost exclusively oneshots, since my one multi-chapter work on AO3 is actually a collection of different oneshots for a pairing.  I guess it counts?  Let’s make ours a story with no end, a Tolkien fic for Elrond/Thranduil (aka Rivenwood, aka the ship that is probably the closest ship I have to an OTP)

fics you were nervous to post:  Ha ha, all of them.  I guess Sometimes When We Touch, an Agent Carter fic, wins by a narrow margin because it was for a fandom exchange, and I was super nervous if the person I was writing for would like it?

how do you choose your titles: Four out of five fics have titles that are song lyrics and I make no apologies or excuses

do you outline: I only outline fics I never actually end up writing :)

favorite story i’ve written so far: Without a doubt, On the Composition of Clouds.  It’s so close to my heart, and it’s one of the first pieces of writing that I’ve finished and still loved afterwards.  It’s the first fic I wrote completely chronologically from beginning to end because I was so sure of where I was going and what I wanted to write.  I’m currently writing the sequel and planning a third fic for after that. (Listen, I love Cumulous Rocks with my whole entire heart, this monk is living rent free in my head 24/7)

complete: So far, I’ve almost exclusively published fics that are complete, which is almost all the fics I’ve listed above except for Let’s make ours a story with no end.  Also two hundred miles per hour with a blindfold on is complete.  Come check it out for Cumulous Rocks and Sofia Lee talking shit about Tony Simos, philosophizing on the nature of life and death, doing cool parkour shit, and possibly committing assault and battery on a bunch of pixies!

A fic tentatively titled ‘So no one told you life was gonna be this way’ that’s about Lapin doing some Gandalf the White shit and coming back to life, with the running gag of him and Cumulous being surprisingly fantastic roommates which absolutely no one understands but everyone learns to fear

What are you working on right now? Right now, I’m focused on BellarkeFic-for-BLM (I just got an amazing canon prompt I’m really excited to finish). I’ve also been participating in this round of the Chopped Challenge, which has been fun and challenging. In between prompts, I’ve got two WIPs that I’m slowly cranking through. Shoutout to every single reader who’s been incredibly patient while I’ve been so slow on those updates — though, reminder that you can donate to a BLM organization (even a $3 donation works) and request an update to get those higher on my prio list while I’m focused on that initiative.

What’s something you’d like to write one day? My absolute dream job and the ultimate goal is to become a showrunner for a prime time TV show. I love TV shows — I love the way actors and directors and crew take a script and breath life into it, I love how you take a general idea for a story and mold it into something amazing as you go, I love how a series gives a story more time to be fleshed out and explored, I love the concept of a writers room and collaborating on a story. It’s a different ballgame from fic writing (which I do for fun) and travel writing (which I do for a living), but I’m determined to make it happen. JRoth, I’m coming for your job, babe. 😉

What is the fanwork you’re most proud of? I’m still really new to fic writing, especially compared to some of the powerhouse writers in this fandom. And I’m sure one of my WIPs (when finished) will probably supersede this. BUT, my one-shot about Madi calling Bellamy on The Ring (She called you for 2,199 days) is something I’m really proud of. I’m a long-winded writer, so one-shots have never come naturally to me. This one just…clicked. It’s got some good lines in there that I’m proud of, and based on the feedback I’ve gotten, it really made readers feel something and connect to the story. It’s not my longest story or my most thought-out. But it shows my growth as a writer these past few months, and I’m proud of that.

Why did you first start writing fic? I started writing fic as a creative outlet for my writing. My day job is writing about travel and credit cards. And while I enjoy that, it’s just not as creative. My dream is to write for a TV show though, and I was craving a way to flex my creative writing muscles in a low-stress way. I started watching The 100 when it first came out, but I didn’t really get into the fandom until I came back to the show during the S5/6 hiatus. That’s when I started reading fics and reblogging stuff about the show on Tumblr. During the S6/7 hiatus, I had this idea for a Greys Anatomy AU, and my sister (who is also a major fan of the show) was like, “You literally write things for a living. If you want to write a Grey’s AU for t100, there is absolutely nothing stopping you.” I published my first chapter on that The Choices We Make in Dec. 2019, and the rest is history.

What frustrates you most about fic writing? For me, I think that the most frustrating thing isn’t even about fic writing itself; it’s the fact that it’s a side-hobby and not something I can dedicate my full attention to. When you write all day for your day job, then do some for your freelance gig, and then turn around and try to write for a few hours every night for fic… that gets hard sometimes — especially since starting quarantine where I’m not traveling, going out with friends, getting a break from it, etc. Fic writing is a creative release for me, and I absolutely love crafting and writing these stories that involve some of my favorite fictional characters. And I love interacting with other writers and fic readers, I love talking about ideas and exchanging headcanons and fangirling over my favorite writers’ works. But (because there’s always a but), sometimes I just don’t have the mental energy or capacity to write at the end of the day when I’ve turned in 3 deadlines for work. I’ve got all these ideas floating in my head, but only so much time and mental energy I can dedicate to it.

What are your top five songs right now? Oh boy. So I live alone, which means I’ve got either music or Netflix on in the background 24/7 because ya girl doesn’t like silence. I have a different playlist for different moods. I’ll share my fav song from each of those playlists. What are your inspirations (books, songs, other fic, really good cake)? All of the above, except I like pie more than cake. lol But really, I kind of use everything around me for inspiration. “The Choices We Make” is inspired by my love of Grey’s Anatomy. “Intertwining your soul (with somebody else)” is inspired my the first draft of my YA novel (though the setting was adapted to a grounder canonverse AU). “The Day He Shut That Rocket Door” and “She called you for 2,199 days” were inspired by @historyofbellarke‘s headcanons that were brought up in S7 speccing conversations (shoutout to her for enabling my angsty ass). My most recent WIP “There are some things written in the stars” that I started as part of Chopped (but will continue because I’m obsessed with the idea) is inspired by my love of Timeless. And I have an entire Notion database filled with fic ideas — some one-shots and some multi-chapter fics — that are inspired by quotes, songs, conversations with friends, books I love, shows I adore, random HCs that pop into my head while I watch, my own life experiences, etc. I take inspiration in any form it decides to come in. 💕

What first attracted you to Bellarke? What attracts you now? I’m a ho for enemies to lovers — the idea that you can put your worst foot forward and show someone all the ugly parts of you… and that they’ll see that and somehow look past it to see the good stuff too, falling in love with your whole self instead of just the pretty parts. Yeah, it’s my favorite romance trope. And that tension is what originally drew me to Bellarke. Now, it’s a combination of things. I love each of these characters in their own right. I relate to Clarke in a lot of ways, and I aspire to be her level of badass. I straight adore Bellamy Blake (flaws, stupid decisions, and all) and would marry him in a heartbeat if he were real — I’m not even kidding. lol But I also love their dynamic. They are partners, best friends, perfect compliments to the other. They see each other in a way no one else does, and they are the one person the other constantly risks everything for. They are both so driven by their responsibilities to their people, yet that all typically goes out the window the moment the other is at risk. I don’t believe in soulmates in real life, but it’s nice to get to believe in this fictional world that they are just made for each other.

BESIDES Bellarke, what character or pairing do you like best on t100? My favorite character besides Bellarke is John Murphy. His arc has been BY FAR the best on this show, going from that little shit in S1 to this “asshole we love” in the middle to now a true hero in this final season. And through it all Richard Harmon has been amazing to watch on screen.

My favorite pairing besides Bellarke is Linctavia. Yes, that ship is problematic in a lot of ways, but I still loved their dynamic. Lincoln helped Octavia navigate this new world that she was so desperate to be apart of while being mindful of her safety. And I thought they were a good match — he helped tame her fire without putting it out, and she helped challenge the way he was raised. Given time, I think they could have become one of the most stable and loving relationships on t100. Of course, that couldn’t happen because Jason needed Bell’s actions in 3A to have heartbreaking consequences, O to spiral for her own character journey, and whatever mess happened off-screen between Ricky and him. But they still remain my favorite ship aside from Bellarke.

Why did you decide to start writing for bellarkefic-for-blm? The second I saw that Sam was planning on doing this, I reached out to ask how I could help/write/be involved. The BLM movement is so important, and this is an amazing way for me to contribute while pursuing my passions. It’s a way for the fandom to get involved and do something good. And ultimately, this helps organizations that need donations. Shameless plug for everyone to please go check out the Bellarke Fic for BLM page — check out the many amazing writers and artists we have participating, and send in prompts. Most of us are allowing WIP chapter update requests, and there are a number of us (myself included) who are matching donations made! No donation is too small, and you’ll be supporting a movement that is a necessity in the U.S. and beyond.

What’s your writing process like? My mind is literal chaos, so I plan and outline like hell in order to make sense of everything. When I get an idea for a fic, it goes on my Notion database. Within Notion, I write down my inspiration for the idea, and a pretty in-depth summary of where I want the fic to go — dialogue ideas, any feelings/emotions I want to invoke, literally just a brain dump of all my ideas. From there, I’ll arrange that brain dumb into an outline. If it’s a one-shot, I’ll generally write the whole thing in the Notion doc. But multi-chapter fics will get a checklist within Notion for me to keep track of progress, and I’ll actually write the fic in Google Docs. I generally start writing from the beginning of a story, but if I get stuck or have an idea for a later scene, the fact that I’ve outlined heavily allows me to jump around as ideas come to me. I’ll read each one-shot or chapter after I’m done to make sure it flows before publishing. I post chapters for my WIPs as I write them, which I should really stop doing. lol For my readers’ sakes, I should work ahead and publish on a schedule rather than making them wait for my slow ass to finish chapter to chapter. But right now, that’s my process!

What are some things you’d like to recommend? Oh goodness, too many fics to possibly name. Instead, I’ll link to my AO3 rec bookmarks (which isn’t all-inclusive of the amazing fics I’ve read in this fandom, but it’s got some good favs in there) and shout out all of our awesome Bellarke Fic for BLM writers. enceinte | Poe Dameron x Reader

A/N: My favorite TV show is I Love Lucy, and one of my favorite episodes is when Lucy finds out she’s pregnant and tries to tell Ricky. I’ve been wanting to write something inspired by it, and just got the motivation to do so! It’s not exactly the same, just inspired by it. ‘Enceinte’ is just ‘pregnant’ in French, which is a nod to the show because ‘pregnant’ was a naughty word in the 50′s (super dumb, I know) and the episode was called ‘Lucy Is Enceinte’!

Summary: Reader tries very, very hard to tell Poe that she’s pregnant.

It was a terrible thing.

It was an awful thing.

It was a thing that came at a horrible time.

It was a thing that came in the middle of war and was such a big risk, such a big distraction.

Yet, as you walked out of the medbay with a hand on your belly, you smiled. No matter how hard you tried to stop smiling, you couldn't. Your boobs hurt like hell and you'd spent the last few weeks completely exhausted, but you just kept grinning like an idiot. The happiest, most terrified idiot in the galaxy.

You had a little berry inside of you; it should have been smaller, but you had been too afraid to acknowledge your obvious problems and get checked right away, so you found out about said berry later than most would. You figured no one should blame you for being in denial, since you and your boyfriend were active members of an army and having a berry just wasn't the best idea for a couple that spent most of their time flying starfighters.

But the berry happened without your permission and you couldn't manage to be angry about it because not only was it a tiny half-you, but you also had a tiny half-Poe inside you. You wondered if it would have his hair or his eyes, or maybe both.

You wouldn't mind if it was all Poe, in looks and personality. Especially personality. You would be honored to raise a kid as half as good as Poe. Or even a quarter as good would still be the perfect child.

Thinking about what your son or daughter would be like made you realize that you were getting ahead of yourself. It would probably be best to start off by telling Poe that you were carrying a little half-him, half-you.

What if he's angry? flitted through your mind briefly. You were in an army, in the middle of a war, in the thick of the action, in almost constant chaos.

How could you bring a baby into that? Even if it was the size of a berry and that was super cute?

And just as your heightened hormones were about to make you cry, you remembered that it was Poe. Good Poe. A-kid-a-quarter-as-good-as-him-would-be-perfect Poe. Would-be-the-best-father Poe.

You would have to tell him eventually anyway. He already noticed how tired and in pain you were, so he was bound to notice when your belly started growing.

The worst thing that could happen was that he might break up with you so he didn't have to deal with the stress of loving something so much during all this.

You pretended that didn't break your heart and carried on in search of Poe.

He was in the command center with a few other pilots. Right, it was a debriefing that you had gotten out of because you were getting checked out in the med bay, and a slightly nervous Poe kissed you a dozen times before he let you go.

Even General Organa's brow was creased with worry as she gave you permission to skip out on the meeting.

You were absolutely terrified going into the medbay and going out; but at least you knew it was a good thing while you were going out.

"Poe?" You moved up behind him, lacing your fingers with his and pressing your face against his shoulder. "Can I talk to you?"

"Yeah, 'course."

Your presence got everyone's attention and there were way too many eyes on you. "I mean, in private."

"—yes." Immediately full of concern, he put an arm around you and walked with you to the other side of the room. "What's up?"

"So I've been really tired lately, right?"

"Right."

"Like, I was falling asleep on the mission, so I went to the medbay as soon as we got back, right?"

"Right."

"Well, it turns out that I'm—"

"Poe!" The interruption came from General Organa, who gave you an apologetic look. "We just got a distress call from a planet under attack. We need our best pilots in the air."

"—okay, just a sec." He stayed with you, but you could tell that he was ready to bolt out of the room and get in his ship. He was practically bouncing on the balls of his feet. "What did you find out, baby?"

You opened your mouth and paused. Telling him could wait. He probably wouldn't be gone for more than half a day anyway. People in danger were more important than telling him you were pregnant.

You were worried again about how inopportune it all was. What if you and the baby needed him once it was born, but someone out there needed him more?

"Nothing. I'll tell you later."

"Alright. You're okay, though?"

"Yeah. I'm fine."

"Awesome."

He kissed you on the cheek and ran past you, after a couple pilots that had already left as soon as the call came in.

You supposed you would tell him when he got back.

You were almost glad that you were interrupted when trying to tell Poe about the baby.

It wasn't exactly a sweet way to tell him, was it? Pulling him away from a debriefing and then just saying it?

Everything about this pregnancy and child was going to be different. You would have to be extra protective since the First Order would gladly use a child to their advantage, he or she wouldn't exactly be running through fields to play and sitting down with their parents every night for dinner, Poe would often be away on missions, and you weren't sure how long you would stay grounded to care for the baby before you were ready to also be away on missions.

So if most of it wasn't going to be normal, you wanted to have at least one thing; you wanted to tell Poe in a romantic, sweet way.

Maybe if he was upset, the way you told him would soften it.

You had a whole dinner set up in your shared quarters — the food was from the dining hall and so was the table, which you convinced Snap to drag to your room.

You passed by General Organa on the way and she gave you this look that any woman who'd ever been pregnant would probably give. You guessed you weren't being subtle.

Now you were sitting at the table, tapping your fingers on it in impatience as you waited for Poe to get back.

He arrived still in his flight suit, sweaty and suspiciously dirty, and came over to give you a kiss on the cheek. "Leia told me you had dinner waiting. You didn't have to do that, baby."

"I wanted to." You were glad the general was helping you out, even if you now had the task of rubbing a layer of dirt off your face. "What the hell did you do?"

"Ah, got dragged around a little bit. I'm good, but I need a shower." He started towards the refresher attached to the room.

"Wait! Your food will get cold."

"I'll be ten minutes."

"Poe."

"Five minutes."

You slammed your fist down on the table and he froze, looking back at you nervously. "Sit. Down."

Having never heard you growl in such a way, he quickly walked to the table and sat down across from you, shifting in his chair. "Is everything...okay, Y/N?"

"Yes. Just..." You took a deep breath, reaching across the table to grab his hand. "I have some good news, Poe. At least...I think it's good news. I mean, it's not the best news. It's definitely unexpected news, but—"

"You're rambling, sweetheart." Yet he gave you the most loving smile in the galaxy for it.

"Sorry...okay. Poe, I'm—"

"Poe!" A pilot ran into the room, grinning. "Come on, man! Our game of sabacc starts in two minutes!"

"Shit, I forgot. I'll be there, Y/N was just about to tell me something."

"Uh..." You were being looked at expectantly by both Poe and the pilot, who you didn't really know enough to tell him you were pregnant. "Go play your game. I'll tell you later."

He lifted your hand and kissed it. "I'll be back in a couple hours, then I'm all yours."

You smiled, only dropping your head into your hands once he was out of the room. Maybe you could tell him during sex or something.

Your next idea was the dumbest idea anyone had ever had, but it was almost guaranteed to get and keep Poe's attention.

Poe liked sex. He liked sex with you. He liked seeing you naked. He liked being the one to undress you.

That was why you were in the refresher, writing on your stomach with some paint you'd found. It was supposed to be for propaganda posters, but you figured it would be okay to use just a little.

The words 'I'm pregnant' stood out in blue, backwards in the mirror, before you rolled your sleep shirt down. You couldn't come up with anything more creative than that.

You stepped out of the 'fresher and stopped in the doorway, playing with the hem of your shirt. "Poe? Honey?" You used your most suggestive voice; the one that made him look up from whatever he was doing with a big grin because he knew you were horny.

Only he didn't move from his face down position on the bed.

"Poe? Baby?" You walked to the bed, stroking his back and feeling him breathe evenly under your touch. "Wake up." You leaned down to nibble at his neck.

"Mmm...fuck...yeah, baby, lemme just get my pants off..."

You smiled against his skin, nuzzling him. "Take off my shirt first."

There was no response and his breathing remained even.

He kept on sleeping.

You could have shaken him until he was wide awake, but if he was this exhausted, he needed his sleep.

With a soft huff, you walked around the bed and gently plopped down onto the mattress, wiggling under the covers.

You were just going to wait until the baby came out. It could be the one to tell him.

You had to tell him.

You didn't care what he was doing or who interrupted, you were just going to say it.

Imagine your surprise when he ran past you just as you were looking for him.

You didn't even know it was him until you turned to watch the person go and recognized the dark, curly hair.

You ran right after him because you were going to tell him.

"Poe!"

"Busy, sweetheart!"

"I need to tell you something!"

"You can tell me as soon as I get back!"

"I've tried to tell you a bunch of times already!"

"I'm sorry! I'll be back tonight!"

You were out of breath by the time you ran out to the hangar, watching as Poe climbed into his X-wing. "Poe! I'm fucking pregnant!"

That was so not how you wanted to tell him. Especially because everyone around you froze, including him, holding his helmet just above his head.

His helmet was quickly forgotten to the side as he vaulted out of the cockpit and jumped to the ground, running to you. "Baby...baby, no..." He didn't sound angry or disappointed. He sounded in disbelief, like you were about to tell him it was some joke.

You weren't sure when you started crying, but you were already sobbing. "Yes." You grabbed his hand and put it on your stomach. "We're having a baby."

"A baby..." He stared, then fell to his knees and pressed kisses to your belly.

"Poe." So many eyes were on you, and embarrassment was mixing with happiness. "You're not angry?"

"'Course not! I mean, I gotta admit, it's not the best time, but...we'll figure this out. When did you find out?"

"A week ago."

"A week—"

"Don't you dare. I've been trying to tell you, but you keep getting distracted."

"Oh, shit, that's what you were trying to tell me?"

"Yeah."

"I'm sorry." He stood up, taking hold of your hands. "I'm gonna be a dad?"

"Yes."

He looked at you like you told him something he'd been waiting all his life to hear, pulling you to his chest and holding you tightly.

You only cried harder. "It's the size of a berry. Or, at least, it was...I don't know what it's the size of now. A big berry?"

"Oh, fuck, I love you." He pulled away just to kiss you deeply. "I love our baby."

"Dameron, we gotta go!"

He stepped back and looked at you apologetically. "We'll talk about this when I get back. We can celebrate...if you want to celebrate? And we can figure this out. We'll be okay." He started to go after you nodded, but moved back and gave you another kiss.

"Poe! Get out of here."

"Yes, ma'am." He jogged off towards his ship, grabbing a pilot who just came back from a mission by the shoulder, shaking him. "She's having my baby!" Then he continued to his X-wing and climbed up the ladder.

It was a terrible thing.

It was an awful thing.

It was a thing that came at a horrible time.

But you and Poe were going to be parents, and while you both knew it was going to be hard, you would figure it out.

"I'm gonna be a fucking dad!"

Oh wait some cast stuff...brb ima cry. The ending has some very series finale energy...I’m scared. Natalie wouldn’t have done the “buckle up wildcats” if there wasn’t a season 3, right? But the bloopers at the end...

The cast ending was great. “You are the Music in Me” was so heartfelt and I’m a sucker for bloopers.

Wait so no Lily home? It was probably a cut scene. 

If we got Lily home, can we get an album with the cast singing all the BATB songs? 

I have so many mixed feelings about this episode. Here is the thing, if you love the core 4 then this was your episode. If you’re like me and prefer the side leads then this was probably a little disappointing since we barely saw them. This episode felt rushed and a little messy, but there were some great moments. Season 2′s writing has felt a little weird. This season lacked the chaotic theater kid energy season 1 had. It was one of the reasons I fell in love with the show. If/when we get a season 3 I really hope the writers find that energy again.

Let’s all give a round of applause for the cast and crew who filmed majority of the season during a global pandemic. That could not have been easy. They gave us a pretty good season under crazy conditions. They definitely had to change some things to fit the current climate. Overall, hats off the the cast and crew because you guys killed it. 

I’m really going to miss this show, hopefully it gets renewed. It has become a comfort show these past several weeks. My sanity says “no, don’t go” but my sleep schedule says “leave.”
