cas and jack sitting in the kitchen slow blinking at each other. dean walking in, grabbing a beer, and walking back out. sam is like what the fuck are they doing. dean is like yeah they do that. they’re bonding. leave them alone.

*lays down in a grassy field next to you* I just think if Jack had been around during the Regarding Dean episode he would have been very patient and understanding with memory loss!Dean, y’know?
Like everyone else kept getting frustrated with him but I think Jack would have been the complete opposite, he would have been more than happy to answer Dean’s repeated questions over and over again, and would have just been eager to help take care of Dean for once, as opposed to the other way around.

Also just since my one jack-psychosis post made its rounds i’d love to add on these things for extra salt in the wound:
-> “jack smiles, so happy to be so needed, so loved.”
-> “they’ll never want to be friends again.” [“and that’s important to you?”] “they raised me. taught me to be who i am.”

if you wanna write dean as a father figure to jack you need to nut up and acknowledge that he is an abusive parent. if we can even call him a parent in relation to jack tbfh it’s a massive stretch. he’s more of a deadbeat than john was

2) Be respectful of all other participants. If there are any issues, please contact me through the exchange Tumblr account or DM me on Discord and we will work together to solve it.
3) Respect Do Not Wants (DNWs) and use common sense – if someone requests fluff and doesn’t DNW torture, they probably still don’t want torture unless otherwise requested.
4) Your work must focus on fathers or fatherhood in some way (this rule is up to interpretation, as long as you create something your giftee will be happy with).
5) To request an extension, contact me on the exchange's Tumblr account or DM me on Discord. Include your Ao3 handle and how long of an extension you need. You don't need to give a reason or explanation, just a heads-up so that I don't give your assignment to someone else.
7) If you for some reason cannot complete your work, hit the "Default" button next to your assignment in your Ao3 "Assignments" page. No reason or explanation is necessary, but please do this sooner rather than later if you are sure that you will not be able to complete your creation.

Well, I cannot say I didn't like Jack. He's a great kid. His presence was needed in a season gone astray. It did not look like Supernatural at all, but just some weird story about supernatural beings throwing themselves at Sam and Dean, interfering with their lives all the time. If Supernatural had stuck to its previous nature, there would have been no room for Jack.
Anyway, this is moving. The affection showed by this young Nefilim, still unaware of his own being and power, is quite sincere. And catches Dean completely off guard.
He just doesn't think he deserves to be loved. He thinks he's lucky his baby brother still puts up with him... a little later he'll realize Sam loves him for real, and would not forsake him.

i am just thinking thoughts but oh my god i have just realized. so sam was lucifer’s vessel right. and jack is of course lucifer’s son but also, in a human biology sense, the son of the guy lucifer was possessing at the time. so sam, knowing what it is to be conscious but trapped in his body while lucifer rides him around, looks at the act of lucifer getting someone pregnant. via an unconsenting vessel. and he thinks to himself, that could have been me. lucifer’s son could just as easily have also been my son, biologically speaking, if lucifer had happened to do that while possessing me instead of that other guy. and so when dean meets jack he’s just thinking, that’s the devil’s son. but when sam meets jack, he’s thinking, this is the biological kid of lucifer’s vessel and if things had worked out only slightly differently would have been my own biological kid. and so he treats jack gently, and tries to nurture him, because how can he believe this kid is inherently evil while also knowing that in a slightly different world, this kid is his?

Imagine Jack asking if Dean would play dress-up with him in an attempt to connect with Dean in some kind of way, since Dean *clearly* loves dressing up so much.
And Dean would scoff and act all offended that something as serious as their under-cover gear is being referred to as silly dress-up clothes.
But then Dean begrudgingly agrees and (being a true LARPer at heart) gets really into it and they start playing playing a game of Cowboys and Outlaws.
Cas would just be confused at how he was talked into being tied up for the entire afternoon, sitting on top of a chalk outlined railroad track waiting to be rescued, while Jack and Dean have pretend shoots out in the hallways with plastic plastic guns, it all eventually leading to a quickdraw duel on top of the library tables.
Dean of course playing the dastardly, gunslinging outlaw who’s wanted Dead or Alive to Jack’s shiny new Sheriff who just wants to protect the good and honest folk of Bunkerville, Kansas. (Population: 4. 5 if you count Miracle.)

Jack: Yeah, he-he wasn't all bad, my dad. Uh, that's what makes our parents loom so large in our heads, I think. They're… a million things to us all at once.
And even after they're long gone, we're stuck with them. Can't help it. They're inside of us. You know, my whole life, I promised myself I'd be nothing like him, but…I ended up just like him.
Kevin: No, Dad. You're way better than him.
Jack: Thank you, my son. And you're gonna be way better than me.

I think there’s something to be said about the true nature of Jack coming into the world. The horror and the despair that shook the world with his birth.
Dean, for instance. He’d lost the love of his life, and there, standing in front of him: his love’s child, forced to grow up too fast. Humans seek out patterns— they fall so easily into them— and suddenly, Dean was John, and Jack was Dean. A father who’d lost his partner; a child who’d lost their childhood.
And none of this was Jack’s fault. Never. Most of it was Dean’s, actually, despite my love for him and his character. Dean needed something familiar in this cruel new world. In this harsh turn of events. So he turned to his old family dynamics. He was his father; Jack was not his son. The same as it had been before, for himself, all those years ago. Jack was a soldier, in his eyes, never more.
And Jack never had a younger sibling (not one that he ever got to know, anyways) but that didn’t stop him from caring. And did he ever care. He cared for everyone— the whole world— but all Dean could see was his childhood self, with his unending love and hope, and all Dean could be was the boot his father was, the boot that crushed that hope and twisted it into hate.
Sam, of course, didn’t have the connections Dean did. Never had. He saw a child, forced to grow up too soon, and thought, ‘I need to care for that.’ Same as Dean would, under any other circumstance— we’ve seen how he is with kids in past seasons. But once again, Dean was destroyed, and fell back into those hurtful, terrible patterns. And Jack and Sam were dragged into it.
A toxic family, that could do little more than stand each other. A toxic family, that wept for the lives they could’ve had together, if only they had the strength, and that one, missing piece.

everyone talks about lot about dean hitting cas with the “just a silly little guy” beam at full blast but we should also appreciate him doing that to jack too bc here is a nigh-omnipotent demigod who can and will kill you with his mind or strangle you or rip your heart right out of your chest and eat it raw and who killed an entire archangel and deans over here like “can’t believe I’m being sassed by Rosemary’s millennial 🙄🙄🙄 okay nerd, okay Mighty Mouse. yeah he’s the antichrist but don’t let that spook you he’s actually very silly. just between you and me the most evil thing about him is that he enjoys Hawaiian pizza. he’s my buddy and my pal and my kid and I make him watch bad horror movies with me and go shopping when we’re out. murder? what murder?”
