I used to get crippling period pain & supremely heavy bleeding before I: 1. started hooping 2. made friends with my cycle 3. stopped eating hormones from animal products 4. Shifted the deeper emotional debris that I was holding onto in connection with my self-love & sexuality. The last 3 are pretty massive topics so let’s start with hooping. Here is a quick version of a practice I do almost daily. It keeps my lower back & abdominals strong but relaxed. My psoas muscle (a deep core muscle that I believe has a lot to do with cramps and lower body pain) aligned & mobile, happy & pain free. Releases tension, makes me smile, feel a little sexy & has eliminated all period pain. Today, Day 2 of my cycle, I felt slight tightness around my hips & lower back, I did this for about 10 mins & feel completely relaxed and energised. I know that some of you are in crippling period pain, the thought of getting out of bed is mind blowing but even just a minute or two of natural muscle relaxers (hooping, yoga, hip circles) is going to get blood flow & release happening. Take all of this at your own pace. I like to put in a few relaxing songs. Happy Hips Sequence 1. Stand inside your hoops sending attention, movement & epic love to your hips in the form of hip shaking, circles or figure 8 2. Use your hoop to stretch the front & sides of your body 3. Ease yourself into the practice with some waist hooping. Bring flow & ease to your arms movements, deepen your breath, place your hands on any part of your body that needs attention. 4. Drop the hoop down to your hips, stay here for as long as you can. Be mindful of your posture, bring natural alignment to your spine and ease to your lower back. With more space for your arms to express and move courageously and playfully take up space. 5. Move your hoop from hips to waist as many times as you can. Slow the spin to drop your hoop down from waist to hips, speeding up your hip thrust to catch the hoop on your hips. To bring the hoop back up with hip shimmying. Btw this photo was taken at Irene warehouse @deannelovexo helped me choreograph an act that I was performing on stage for the first time and this was my first try in front of an audience. I think it was after a workshop- I dropped my hoops a few times but everyone was so encouraging I felt ready and confident to take to the stage!! (at Irene's Warehouse)

Time is flying in the 21 day shoulder hooping challenge, and I finally am to the point where I can keep it going without spinning around! Couldn't have done it without the tips and tricks from @deannelovexo and the positivity from everyone in the Facebook group! What really helped me too was learning the techniques over again in a larger hoop and then sizing down after practicing. This is my 38", but I made a lot of progress in my 45" because not only is it bigger, but heavier too!
