Finished Dream Festival R
Well, I can say objectively that R is a huge improvement from the first season. The art improved where I didn’t think it needed to but the writing is definitely more refined.
The individual characters were all good in their own, I really liked the Junya and Shin episode and the early Kurofune ones really did hit me when I never cared about them at all. I thought it was interesting that WMuskat was even officially formed, but I guess we are technically allowed to have sub units in the main group. (So like Mezzo, Pythag and Fly Away. Listen, I only use i7 as a base reference for any idol knowledge I know.)
I was disappointed in finding out that there were actually only 11 episodes and the last “episode” is just a “recap” and a collection of all their performances. As someone who doesn’t actually like idols (why are you watching this) and not actually here for the performances, it doesn’t actually affect me. But I guess it is a nice way to look back at the series as a whole and to just watch all the performances. Watching them in a row, the models also look improved.
I don’t know all the songs that well but my favs are
Glory Story (Pre TraSig)
Symmetric Love (Shin/Junya)
Pleasure Flag (DearDream)
also unfortunately a lot of Kurofune’s songs are good but I can’t differentiate them because they all look the same to me (I only remember Kimi wa Mi Amour because of the title)
Anyway my biggest complaint is that they toned down on the fujo bait-y stuff from s1. 😂😂 That’s actually a good thing but I’m disappointed from a fan who wants to be serviced perspective lmfao. It’s like ShinKana and ItsuJun do not exist at all. There is more of an emphasis on the boys as a group but I think the only duos getting “moments” in R are ShinJun, KanaJun (again), ItsuChizu and not even going to count Kurofune. We get a lot more Keigo and Shin interactions, which I like.
Not my fault but I like Kanade more than I care for ShinKana as a ship because Shin hasn’t had any relevance to Kanade in so long that I don’t care anymore 😭 Also the majority of the fanart on pixiv is drawn by this one artist. The artist is good but seeing them also ship IoRiku (and HaruRin????) kinda turns me a bit off. Also I might as well go ship Mikami/Kanade if i really was desperate to ship something but I’m also shocked that their pixiv tag is practically non existent??? I thought they’d be eating that shit up!
Also I did complain about Shin not having family but we see his mom at the end, so that’s good! (Not enough for her to get tickets to see Dream Fest live I guess.)
Yuto keeps going on about “rock” and stuff but I don’t think any of Kurofune’s songs are rock-like at all. I wish they did have a clear difference in songs to differentiate themselves from DD, but I guess Kurofune just being two dudes is enough. (I’m thinking like how Trigger and LEGIT are a clear obvious difference from the rainbow baby boys that I7 and ProtoStar are supposed to be) DearDream (and sub groups) do perform a variety of songs though, mostly like how TraSig had that Musketeers song/BirdCage.
Anyway, I still really enjoy DreamFes as a series. Would I recommend it? Only if you’re an expert at watching shows aimed towards kids and can handle season one. Season two was better and more refined. It’s not like it did anything totally different to surprise me, (not like in s1 with Junya being the leader and TraSig’s center) but it was just nice to see more of the boys. And surprise guests from actual seiyuu I know as veteran characters.
A lot of the Dorika designs (Coords apparently they’re called) have a lot of strong patterns that makes me not a fan of the performance outfits. Also the fact that they’re supposed to be generic enough that anyone can wear any outfit is a turn off to me. I guess I just don’t really vibe with this genre of clothes collecting. I think it’s cute that they actually have brand names for certain styles though.

Phan Cam: A Heroic Dream Festival (Day 1) (Part 3)
Hey, hey, hey, everybody! It’s time for summer’s most loveliest sounds! Welcome to this year’s Dream Festival! This promises to be a special one as we’re doing it here at Avengers Campus in New York City! That’s right, Dream FES is making its American and international debut. Starting in Tokyo, Japan, now we’re doing overseas. To get us more in the scene, our reporter on the inside is backstage right now. Over to you, girl!
>Backstage.
That’s right, I’m here backstage of what promises to be the biggest Dream Festival yet. Not only will we have our usual Idol Units with new song just ready for you, but we’ve got all kinds of acts on the second day from locals to certain parts of the world. And let’s not forget that on the third day, we will have our usual competition to see which Unit will get a music deal and have a full album release ready in time for the Winter Holidays. Joining me here are some fellow reporters: Robbie Robertson and Robert Bauchamp.
Thank you. Arigato.
Merci. I wonder if they’ll do this next year on Luna or in Paris.
Reporter: So, what is your take on Dream FES being here in America?
Mr. Robertson: Well, it’ll be a little different. We’ve had something like this over Christmas, but to see it again here and knowing that this System will be uses in the U.S. will be promise to be something new and great.
Beauchamp: Maybe. But I can imagine some people may not be happy with the System.
Reporter: You mean, because it’s like a magical girl transformation.
Mr. Robertson: You mean with the nudity?
Beauchamp: Pretty much. But I think there will be most people who will like it. But I guess we’ll find out tonight.
Reporter: It sure seems that way. And how do you feel about knowing that on the second day, some people other than the Idol Units will be able to use the System?
Mr. Robertson: Well, I wouldn’t be surprised that some people would love to try it out. They would feel more like actual Idols and magical boys and girls.
Beauchamp: My friends are performing on the second day and they paid to use the System. I think this will be the first time they’re doing something like this.
Reporter: I hope they’ll do great. Last one, what will you be writing about this in your respected media?
Beauchamp: Well, I write for a small tabloid in Luna, but I think they would read about it and might consider using the System there. But I think they would most likely prefer the next Dream Festival to be in Paris.
Mr. Robertson: Well, I might be able to write about this in the Daily Bugle... If my boss will find some room after bashing Spider-Man.
Reporter: (laughing a bit) No doubt about it. He sure has it out. Well, back to you on stage.
>Back on stage.
MC: Thanks, girl. Now, I have a special guest of my own. A real hero... At least I think he is... Are you really a hero?
Maybe. I’m sorta banned from Avengers Campus... But I had to make my Phansite debut while I can. No matter how late it’ll be posted.
MC: (confused) Come again?
Deadpool: Oops! Almost said something that I shouldn’t have. Well, better be off... I think those damn S.H.I.E.L.D. agents spotted me. See ya!
>As quickly as he came, Deadpool vanishes.
MC: (trying to make sense of what just happened) Okay... Moving on. It looks like we’re about to begin as Haruto Mikami comes on stage with his Unit, Sankishi. Mikami has just been made the new head of D-Four Productions after its former head retired. But despite this, Mikami will still perform with Sankishi. So ladies and gentlemen, give it up for the legendary Idol Unit to come all the way here from Japan. Sankishi!
>Everyone cheered as Sankishi comes on stage.
Haruto: Hello, New York!
Susa: Here we are! Dream FES in America!
Ichika: Time to show this nation the magic that we have in store.
Haruto: But don’t think we alone will do this. We have all of our fellow Idol Units to help you see your dreams come true. We have DearDream!
Thank you, New York and Avengers Campus, for having us!
Susa: We have KUROFUNE!
Let us set sail, New York, to the future!
Ichika: We have ACE!
Tonight, Avengers Campus, we’ll be your ace in the hole!
Haruto: We have In-Show-Ha!
Great ready, America! It’s showtime!
Susa: We have ANSwer!
Let’s show you all the answer you’ve been looking for!
Ichika: And we have SKUL5!
Our music will dash into your hearts and stick in your skulls!
Haruto: And let’s not forget that on the second day, which is actually the day after tomorrow as we will need time to rest and maybe check out the campus between shows, we will have an open mike to show us what you guys have to offer.
Susa: And on the final day, we will have our competition to see which of our Units, both old and new, will get a chance to have a music deal and release an album and CD just in time for the Holidays.
Ichika: Now, let us join together and make this the most memorable Dream Festival ever.
All:
Let’s make dreams a reality!
>The whole crowd cheers.
Haruto: Now let’s start off. I believe we three are first. So get ready as we start with our new song.
Susa: So let’s greet this show with the light of hope.
Ichika: And illuminate the darkness the plagues our lives.
Sankishi: For we will be your Sun Knights!
Dorika Time!
Catch Your Cheers!
Haruto: A fine time to ride.
Catch Your Cheers!
Susa: Let’s gallop to your side!
Catch Your Cheers!
Ichika: We’ll be your knights on white horses.
>Sankishi changes their clothes.
Riding Horse Series! Complete!
>With that, Sankishi begins their song, Sun Knights.
>Meanwhile, in the crowed, we notice a strange group approaching us...
Perfect. You came just in time.
Grizzly Bear: What up, Ren, Yusuke!
Chloe Park: Hey, you guys!
We’re so glad the seven of you could make it.
We would have arrived sooner, but we had to finish unpacking.
Weird. I don’t think I’ve seen guys like you in the dorm.
Or even in the adults’ dorm.
That goes triple for the girls’ side.
We’re not staying at the dorms. Griff has relatives in the Bronx. They’re in Asia for a few weeks, but they said we can crash at their place while they’re away.
All of you?
Panda: Not all of us. Me and my brothers are too big for Griff’s cousin’s place. But we already have some friends here in New York who are will to let us in. But where they’re staying is not place for a little girl, even if Chloe is already in college. So she’s staying with Tom and the others.
Chloe: He has a point. I’m not too keen on sleeping in sewage.
You better not let Tunnel Rat hear that. He likes exploring those sewers.
I wonder if we’ll see him again soon.
Violet: Vince said that he and the other Joes would be here before the festival ends. You’ll see him soon.
Why am I suddenly worried about you wondering when you’ll see that soldier?
Typical father behavior. You’re worried... because your daughter discovered boys.
>Tohor, through gritting teeth, resists the urge to punch Lucien in the face.
Everyone, these are our friends from San Francisco. Me and Yusuke met them while while we were there for the art show. First, we have the Bear Brothers: Grizzly, Panda, and Ice Bear.
Yay! It’s beary good to meet some fellow bears!
Ice Bear: Ice Bear’s never seen a bear like you before.
IMPROTANT NOTE: Due to circumstances beyond our control, this post has been cut off. We will try to post the rest of the story in another post. We apologize for the inconvenience.

ALL FOR SMILE!
Lyricist: Matsui Youhei
Composer: EFFY
Artist: DearDream & KUROFUNE
ALL FOR SMILE!
I always want to send it from the stage
Filled with wishes, I'm going to sing it
ANSWER TO YOUR YELL!
Standing at a place different from the current one
Even I couldn't have imagined it myself
I've never thought "I can't do it"
I'm going to surpass the expectation value from the cheers I've gotten
Everyone keeps saying that it's okay to fit the mold
Sending the message, replying it with smiles
We're goin'! singin'! dancin'!
doin' our best, always!
That's why, wait for us!
Beyond the fulfilled dream (Our Dream)
must be the real START
We'll definitely going to take you all (Take You)
To a place even higher and further
Even the baseless words become a conviction now
ALL FOR SMILE! Let's get fired up!!
The thought of wanting to shine...
It's because I want to make you realize
That I'm standing here right now
Wave your hands; I'll come to meet you right away!
If we color every single passage
each of us holds within into a smile
We're goin'! singin'! dancin'!
doin' our best, always!
Let's become one!
The road of dream we've been following (Our Dream)
It's one never-ending STAGE
Surpassing the time and space (Feel You)
I can feel that we're all connected
That's why, there's only one wish I want to fulfill right now
ALL FOR SMILE! Let's get fired up!!
RIGHT NOW! There, laugh it off!
That smile is the greatest cheer
RIGHT NOW! There, laugh it off!
(We're goin'! singin'! dancin'!
doin' our best, always!)
ALL FOR SMILE!
Beyond the fulfilled dream (Our Dream)
must be the real START
We'll definitely going to take you all (Take You)
To a place even higher and further
Even the baseless words become a promise now
ALL FOR SMILE! Let's get fired up!!
ANSWER TO YOUR YELL!
ALL FOR YOUR SMILE!

So the Kurofune episode after a second watch, still did not make sense. Not that it didn’t make sense, but there could have been a lot more to make it better.
I understand that the main plot points needed were
Yuto needs a partner to form a unit
Yuto finds Keigo
Keigo isn’t interested
Yuto says some motivating words to get Keigo thinking
Keigo comes around
Kurofune is formed
Kurofune beats Traffic Signal in the Battle Live
These are valid things that need to happen in the story. But This Was All One Episode.
A few of it was also fake deep stuff that felt like it was written by a preteen. Mostly the full out brawl stuff. I mean I guess it’s to juxtapose the boys we already know (sweet and friendly DD) and that Keigo is letting himself go, that he’s fallen so far. Or to show Yuto “saving Keigo” from his situation and “paying him back” by being his partner. Iunno
They tried really hard to make Yuto’s “Who are you?” line something. Which was my initial problem with the episode the first time I saw it. Yuto leaves DFour after being told he needs a partner, and the old men are like “he probably already has someone in mind”. Which suggests that he seeks out Keigo. But with the “who are you” line, he doesn’t even know him. Unless the “who are you” line actually means for Keigo to search within himself and actually find out who Kazama Keigo really is, but that’s not the tone I’m getting when he says it the first time. Maybe the second time. But then he says it a Third time, this time to Junya. Which, is supposed to be a “you’re nothing to me, Kurofune is superior” sort of thing, but maybe I just hate the line at that point lol
Also, my same problems with how Keigo is just automatically enrolled in DFour. He didn’t have to do an audition? Am I supposed to assume that his childhood acting skills somehow translated into singing and dancing well enough? The princely act I understand, but he was so good that it brought Kurofune’s debut a victory in the Battle Live????
And again, I get that Dorikas are a physical manifestation of a fan’s cheers. But how did it “look like Kurofune’s cheers are about to run out” but then suddenly gain a burst of cheers. Clearly they needed something for the dramatics, but come on??? Am I supposed to assume that the fans saw Yuto’s resolve and in that split second just botted some cheers for Kurofune to win?
Anyway, I know the plot point is for TraSig to lose so we can finally get DearDream but gosh.
Why am I complaining though lol I think I would have groaned if I had to sit through two episodes of Kurofune forming. Or maybe not if it was actually paced good. Who knows 🤷♀️
