Past 4pm. Evaluating testing data in production environments again. Not sure about side-effects and things that actually happen as soon as you stop paying attention. Herding a crowd of services that don't like each other very much. Fingers not bitten or cut as the best possible outcome so far.

Backstory
Elara grew up on the island of woe with her father due to not having many kids around she quickly made friends with the Shroud brothers. At that think she was more of a cheerful and helpful child. Some people would take advantage of her kindness having her do many tasks for them etc.
Among those people was someone who she saw as family and worked with her father. He seemed to treat her kindly but one day when she was 14 a phantom attack happened and he left her for dead. Elara nearly escaped with her life and was left with some scars. This would change how she would view others looking back on the times she helped wondering if the others would leave her for dead too.
After healing she became more closed off and started to have deep trust issues.

The house Ophelia moves into oversees the scenic Tartosan walking trails and waterfalls. She's even within walking distance to a small beach, not to mention her new workplace, La Coppia Serena. This sunny haven beats the cloudy summer days at Willow Creek, that's for sure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ophelia takes advantage of the weather and starts a little garden. She's determined to be her best self this summer. She actually ends up liking it! She even plants an apple tree next to the yoga mat she never uses. Maybe that'll change!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ophelia's Tartosa friends are psyched she's a local now, so they're going to show her around the plaza. But first, pictures! Gnomeo, who Ophelia kept after Harvestfest, had to get in on the pic. I couldn't get the lawn flamingo she stole from that museum in frame unfortunately.
Tumblr media
Ophelia: Wow, what a pretty sitting area.
Drew: Don't get too excited, kiddo, it's all debug. You can look but you literally can't touch. Come on, we'll show you an area you can actually interact with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xander seems to know the stall vendor well.
Xander: Hey, Cam. Whatever my friends want, it's on me.
Ophelia: You don't have to do that, Xander. I'm no mooch.
Xander: My parents own this stall, Lemon Cake. They pay my salary, so technically this is me funding my future paycheck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ophelia: Thanks for showing me around, you guys.
Moses: No worries, love. Drew told me we're apparently your dads now, so it's our duty to look out for you.
Xander: If you're her dads what does that make me?
Drew: You're the weird family friend.
Xander: It's an honor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xander! That is not how you eat with chopsticks! Bad boy!
Ophelia seems to be doing okay and I've never had her eat anything that required chopsticks before. Be a good example for Xander!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moses: Sorry to hear things didn't work out between you two.
Ophelia: It was for the best. I'm just happy we'll still be friends.
Moses: Ah, staying friends with an ex, a queer right of passage. Hell, my ex introduced me to my current boyfriend. I'm sure you'll make it work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Drew: Hey, at least you got out before it got too bad. Before I came out as nonbinary, I dated a guy for like forever, until I found out he planned to join the military and expected me to be his little army wife. Moving to Strangerville and staying at home all day? No thanks.
Tumblr media
Ophelia: What about you, Xander? Any recent love life woes?
Drew: Don't bother. The man's an open book about everything except his romantic life. I know more about his most recent bladder failure than his last date.
Moses: Typical Xander, never kisses and tells.
Tumblr media
Xander: Would you listen to these two, Lemon Bar? So nosey.
Moses: Our theory is he's too embarrassed to bring anyone home because he lives with his parents.
Xander: You guys make it seem like I'm some loser that lives in the basement! …I live in the attic.
Ophelia: Haha
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ophelia: You've gotta make decent money, why don't you get your own place?
Xander: My parents had me when they were a little older. They're elders now, so I want to be there to help them out around the house.
Drew: Doesn't hurt that they live in a mansion.
Xander: Definitely.
Tumblr media
Ophelia: Didn't realize I was rubbing elbows with Tartosa's elite!
Drew: I'll give him this, the Pappas family has money and influence around here, but Xander doesn't act like a rich asshole. Just a regular asshole.
Xander: That's the nicest thing they've ever said about me!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Drew: If you're looking to get back out there, I know tons of single girls. Or guys. Or others.
Ophelia: If this is you asking my orientation, I'm pan, so those all apply, but right now I just want to focus on having fun and making money.
Xander: Sounds like a good plan to me!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xander: Chopsticks aren't so easy after all, are they, Lemon? Ophelia: Eat a fanoo, Pappas. Xander: gasp Forbidden words, in front of your parents? Kids these days! Ophelia: Guys, can you make Xander part of our metaphorical family so you can disown him?

Code Talk: The Future Speaks Syntax
What if programming becomes as effortless as chatting with your best friend? Spoiler alert: that’s not far off.
Why it matters: Small business owners often juggle multiple roles—from marketing to IT—leaving little time to master the intricacies of programming.
The emerging tech revolution is shifting how we interact with computers, making it more intuitive and accessible.
The big picture: Soon, coding won’t require a degree in computer science.
Imagine speaking in plain English (or your favorite language) and having your computer transform those commands into complex functions—because who wouldn’t want a programmer who listens?
Overheard at the water cooler: “So, you mean I can yell at my computer, and it’ll understand me?” “Finally, tech, that gets my frustration!”
Yes, but: Skeptics might say, “What about debugging? I still have to check if it works!”
True, translating wishes into code will still involve some oversight, but think of it as managing a chatty intern who needs a little fine-tuning—much more palatable than wrestling with endless code.
The bottom line: As artificial intelligence advances, so does the potential for small business owners to wield tech like a magic wand.
With tools like GPT-5 on the horizon, you'll soon trade in your coding woes for a conversation with your computer. So, get ready to speak your computer's language and watch the magic unfold!

a Fic Problem is that: i want to make it a jgy pov, but i... haven’t got a hang of him yet... i want it to hit just right! on the other hand, a sex pollen/fuck or die fic from the pov of the affected person (in this role: lxc. it seems i enjoy hurting the man) is something that i haven’t personally read yet, so it might be Interesting both to write and read. on the other other hand, there’s also such a thing as pov switching, but i feel it requires things to be even? i mean at least it does in my head. what if jgy’s pov section will end up having twenty paragraphs, but lxc’s only seven? it would make the second fic in the series aesthetically different from the first! is that even legal?!

The Doctor can run (in place) and jump, and he looks down to see where he’s going to land! There’s also a little “brrRRING” sound effect on each jump, but it’s a gif, so just imagine it in your head. I promise it’s cute❤️
Next steps will be learning about maps 😁
If you’re interested in some bonus nerd ramblings, they’re below the cut 🤓
👋🤓
Ok, at some point I’m going to need to buckle down and figure out a debugging workflow. PICO-8 doesn’t support breakpoints, so I’m doing it the sloppy way and just printing a bunch of shit to the screen. It’s not efficient, especially when a crash happens before my prints execute.
It wouldn’t be so bad, but the runtime errors aren’t always the most... helpful, and honestly, idk if this is a Lua thing or if it’s a limitation of the subset of Lua that PICO-8 implements. Lua is a 27 year old language (for comparison, Python is 30) so I have to think this is another intentional artificial limitation.
Like, what am I supposed to do with this 😂:
Tumblr media
Sometimes you do get a helpful traceback and error message (oh look, I forgot to call the method on the instance. Again 🙄), and they happen mid-draw, which is good for a chuckle. I think I just like “seeing” how far the code executes before a crash.
Tumblr media
So... unit tests... I don’t have any, and I hate that. I don’t think PICO-8 has a test runner, but I’ve seen a few posts about an external project called pico-test, which I’m very interested in trying it out. It’s just hard to divert time and energy to yet another New Thing when all I wanna do is make my little babies run and jump (lol said every developer ever when tasked with learning testing frameworks). Perhaps I’ll bite the bullet soon though, because for the life of me, I cannot figure out why my collision detection stopped working when I abstracted it out:
Tumblr media
All in all, today was fun. Having all my code in a single file with zero tests is making me very twitchy, but I did at least get everything up into a private github repo (and let me tell you the terror I had when I realized this old laptop has a password protected SSH key that I haven’t had to remember in many years... jfc 😅I did finally remember it, thank god, but I have never seen my old digital ocean droplet life flash before my eyes like that before).
Maybe when I’m a little more comfortable with the concepts, I’ll switch back to the PICO-8 IDE. It is really cute, and it lets you split your code into “tabs”, which would ease my organization woes. But for now I’m just sticking with Sublime Text 2. And I guess your tests can’t fail if you don’t write them to begin with.

The end of this rotation was where my laptop troubles began. First, I ran into an issue with Miko freezing that neither MCCC or debug object could fix. I eventually unfroze her by taking them to a community lot.
Then, I stupidly left my laptop on my bed while I went to fold some laundry, and my laptop overheated and shut down. Normally this is just a minor annoyance, because my game settings like to reset themselves after a crash via overheating, and I have to create a new userfile to get them to stick.
However, when I loaded up my game this time it was running like garbage. Sim menus were taking a full minute to pop up, moving around the lot was really laggy. I later discovered that at some point my graphics card had disconnected, and then game was running on the shitty integrated one. I could not figure out how to get it reconnected/recognized by the machine, so I shut it down until my computer savvy dad could look at it.
Next time I boot it up, my graphics cad has magically reappeared. Game is running just fine and great! Everything is fine and dandy, until I started hearing cracking noises whenever I shut my laptop. The casing is coming apart at one hinge. Not ideal, but maybe I’ll just leave it open from now on to prevent any further wear. My right mouse button has also stopped working on my trackpad at some point, but I have a brand new wireless mouse, and I can double tap with my fingers to right click when it’s not connected.
Finally this brings me to Sunday night, where I noticed my screen started to flicker a little when I picked my laptop up. I ran into this issue with my screen before; it progressed to vertical bars of doom, a frozen screen, and needing to have it replaced while the laptop was still under warranty a year ago. Now with all these issues piling up, and the laptop no longer in warranty, replacing it seemed like the better option. My decision was set on Tuesday, when I booted up my laptop it gave me a ‘permanent battery failure’ message. :P
(And sorry to regale you all with my laptop’s tale of woe, I just needed to vent a little. This isn’t part of the update, haha.)

Not only that, but you have to keep going even when it quits being fun. And it will, sometimes, very much not be "a dream" or "fun" anymore. For most of us at least.
There are also times you go through absolute creative hell, design or word blocks, programming blocks, or debugging woes, but you still need to produce. There are more than likely times when you want to completely give up and get a dead end job just because you don't feel good enough, or the work is keeping you up for hours on end, or honestly you just plain do not want to do this bullshit anymore.
Being creative, be is visual, code, prose, or whatever, is NOT "easy" or "a breeze" or "fun". These are jobs you take and hold on to because, most times, your love for them outweigh the absolute bullshit and dreg days that you have to slop through to get to the good ones, just like any other.
