Klaine December Fanworks Challenge!
Tumblr media
Hey Everyone!!
Polls have been tallied, the people have spoken, and everyone wants some December Klaine action!
So this year we'll be launching the
December Klaine Fanworks Challenge!!
What does this mean?
DAILY PROMPTS
There will be daily prompts beginning December 1 and ending December 21. Hopefully this will give everyone who wants a daily prompt plenty of opportunity for that, but also give participants time to complete the challenge and still have time for whatever holiday celebrations come their way. These daily prompts are not themed in any way and come from a random word generator I found online.
WEEKLY PROMPTS
The weekly themed option was a popular choice, so we're going to try it out! The theme for this year will be Christmas Songs, and each Friday for four weeks there will be a post featuring a Christmas song with a sampling of lyrics from that song to inspire you to be naughty or nice.
Write either or both! Mix and match! Whatever works for you! Not a writer? Fanart is very welcome!!
We'll be joining forces with the @todaydreambelieversfic blog to boost the fanworks, and will let you know what you can do to help in the coming days!
Also, for now we're going to keep this challenge on the Klaine Advent blog (brought to you by Klaine Advent, as it were). Hopefully this won't be too confusing...
Look for a post on Thursday with more details but please reach out with any questions before then and we'll try to get them answered.
And very special thanks to @caramelcoffeeaddict who is working up all of the artwork and came up with the brand new name for the challenge!!

Pavarotti - Day 1 of December Klaine Fanworks Challenge: Plead
Part of my Icy Love verse, but can be read as a standalone.
Read on AO3
Kurt was in a meeting with Isabel when the text came through. He shifted his gaze subtly over to the phone lying face up beside him. Blaine’s name along with a single word lit up his screen.
Pavarotti.
“Um… sorry, Isabel,” he said, “can I take a personal call for a moment?”
Isabel looked shocked at the interruption, but she could read the anxiety creasing Kurt’s forehead and she nodded. “Of course, Dear, is everything okay?”
“I’m not sure yet,” Kurt said, quickly collecting his phone and exiting across the hall to his office. He pressed call as soon as the door shut behind him.
Pavarotti was a safe word. Not in the usual way that called for an immediate cease of play. It was Blaine’s way of signaling that he needed his Dom and he needed him now . Usually, he used it in a full sentence to signal to Kurt that he was nervous, something was making him uncomfortable, he would like to leave the situation. A simple question of “Did you feed Pavarotti?” was all he needed to put Kurt on high alert.
But sending just the word alone? That was as desperate of a plea for help that Blaine could muster.
Blaine picked up the phone on the first ring. His shuddering breaths were all the confirmation Kurt needed that something was seriously wrong. “Pet,” he said firmly, “where are you?”
“H-home,” Blaine said through hiccuping gasps.
“Are you safe?” He asked.
“Yes, S-sir,” Blaine whispered.
“Good, good,” Kurt said, “can you tell me what’s wrong?”
Blaine sobbed softly. “I-I don’t… I c-can’t–”
Blaine was too panicked. But Kurt’s meeting was going to take at least twenty minutes to finish up and then it was another thirty minutes on the train to get home, if he was lucky. It was rush hour so a cab would definitely not get him there any faster. He took a deep breath to steady himself before he began speaking.
“Okay, Pet, here’s what I need you to do.”
He heard Blaine’s voice catch in the back of his throat as Kurt shifted fully into Dom mode. His voice left no room for questions.
“Go to the bedroom.”
He heard the quiet shuffle of Blaine’s feet as he followed his instructions.
“From the toybox, get the black leather cuffs, just the ones for your wrists.”
“Yes, Sir,” Blaine whispered and Kurt could already hear the way his breathing was slowing down. “I have them.”
“From the bedside table, get your sleep headphones, the ones that cover your eyes.”
“Yes, Sir.”
“Good boy,” Kurt said, “you’re doing so good for me.”
Blaine took in a shaky breath. “Thank you, Sir.”
“No go back to the living room,” Kurt waited until he heard a soft confirmation from Blaine that he’d made it, “and collect your kneeling pillow.” Blaine sighed softly at those words. “Place it in the middle of the living room,” one soft thump of the pillow hitting the floor, “and kneel,” the louder thump of Blaine sinking to his knees resounded through Kurt’s ears.
“I’m going to send you a link. Once you hang up I want you to connect your phone to your headphones, follow the link, and press play. Then you will cuff your hands in front of you, put on your headphones, and listen. I will be home before the audio stops.”
“Thank you, Sir,” Blaine breathed.
“I love you, Pet. I’ll be home before you know it.”

Fic: Love Makes a Family
Fandom/pairing: Glee, Kurt/Blaine
Event: December Klaine Fanworks Challenge 2023, day 21: departure
Words: ~300 words
Rating: teen and up
Summary: Kurt's becoming a little less orthodox.
Notes: This is part of my Mormon!Klaine universe. It takes place during Out of Eden, which I am still in the process of posting to AO3. I’m planning to post it as part of an upcoming chapter. I don’t think it’s too spoilery, but it’s up to you whether you want to read it now or wait until it’s on AO3.
“Did you mean that? What you said to the kids at the beginning of the lesson?” Blaine said as they pedaled side-by-side through Klenzepark on the way back to the apartment. "About love being more important for family happiness than the priesthood?”
Kurt didn't say anything for a moment. “You don't think so? I thought, with what you told me about your father…” He drifted off, as if unsure whether the secrets Blaine had whispered in their bedroom about his unhappy family could be repeated outdoors.
“I do think so. I just didn't think you thought that. It's a bit of a departure from what we usually teach—that they're both essential to the Plan of Happiness.” And then, because Blaine was worried pointing that out might put Kurt on the defensive, he offered a piece of himself that he’d never shared with anyone else. “My dad would get so impatient with fathers who didn’t have the Melchizedek priesthood. Sometimes, he'd get to talking about men he counseled who couldn't quit smoking or whatever, and he’d get so solemn, and he’d say, ‘I can't see how they really love their families if they refuse to bring them the blessings of the priesthood.’”
Kurt was silent for another moment. “I’ve thought that myself sometimes. But I was wrong.” They passed the water fountain and kids playing and trees in bloom—Blaine wished he knew what kind of trees they were, because they smelled like the sunshine that surrounded them. “I do believe love is enough to make a happy family,” Kurt finally said. “But I didn't realize I did until I said it.”

Christmas Eves (1/21)
Summary: Blaine makes a quick trip to Ohio to see his parents over Christmas. He certainly doesn't expect to run into his ex-boyfriend Kurt, or to reexamine every aspect of his life, but this Christmas Eve is full of surprises.
Rating: Let's say T? G or T.
Notes: I desperately wanted to participate in the December Klaine Fanworks Challenge this year, but have had no time for writing. This weekend I had a dedicated writing session with some friends and managed to complete chapters for 9 of the prompt words, so I think I have the momentum to actually write the whole story. Will it be done by December 21st, or even by Christmas? Almost certainly not. My quasi-reasonable goal is to get it all written and posted by the new year. Anyway, enough of my rambling - I hope you enjoy!
Chapter 1: Plead
Blaine slept in on Christmas Eve, groggy from travel and still accustomed to Pacific time. He woke up with the winter sun streaming through the window of his former bedroom, long turned into a generic guest room since he moved West for college. His mother had a passion for redecorating, and the room currently had a nautical theme - everything in shades of blue or white, boat motifs abundant, and a sign above the closet door proclaiming that You cannot control the wind, you can only adjust your sail.
He glanced at his phone, the calendar widget reminding him it was Christmas Eve, forecasting Christmas tomorrow and his scheduled flight back to LAX on the 26th. It was a short, perfunctory trip home for the holiday.
There was a knock on the door. “Blaine, honey!” His mother called. “Are you up yet? I need to run out for a few things, I’d love if you came along!”
Blaine dropped his phone onto the bedspread and squeezed his eyes shut, little starbursts appearing behind his eyelids.
“Just a minute!” he replied, and then rolled out of bed.
.
“Oh, this is nice,” Pam said, pausing by a display of velvety bathrobes in the department store they were exiting the mall through. “But I’ve already gotten you something cozy.”
Blaine resisted the urge to squeeze the cup of to-go coffee in his hand. His mother’s quick errands had turned into a trip to the mall, which was complete chaos as desperate shoppers searched for last-minute gifts and bedraggled parents lined up for hours to get their kids’ photos with Santa. Blaine was already nursing a headache and his mother’s words set off his internal alarm bells. “Please tell me you didn’t get me pajamas,” he said.
“It’s a tradition,” she replied simply, feeling the lapel on one of the robes and then continuing forward.
“Mom,” Blaine pleaded as they walked outside. “I told you this last year - I don’t need them. I don’t wear pajamas, and flannel is way too warm for Los Angeles anyway.”
His mother paused on the sidewalk curb, turning back to face him with an unconcerned smile. “Darling,” she said, reaching up to cup his cheek, “Let me have this, okay?”
Blaine took a deep breath. Arguing was apparently futile. “Fine,” he muttered, and set off towards the car.
.
Christmas Eve dinner was an elegant affair, but small. The next day they’d make the 40-minute drive to Blaine’s grandparents’ house, where other extended family would congregate, but tonight just he and his parents gathered around the dining table.
After saying grace and passing around dishes and complimenting the food, Blaine’s dad turned to his favorite topic of conversation - the importance of networking.
“Did I tell you my old classmate Andrew is going to be in LA next month?”
“Yes,” Blaine replied, “You copied me on an email to him.”
“Have you reached out to try and set something up? He owns a rental property somewhere out there so he might know someone useful in the industry. And he’d be a good connection for you to cultivate even if he doesn’t know anyone in film, if you were ever interested in changing directions.”
The only direction Blaine felt like going in now was far, far away from this conversation. He put on a polite smile and said, “I’ve been busy with the holidays, but I’ll make sure to reach out once I get back.”
“Good,” his father said. “Andrew was in my fraternity, we lived together my junior year. Have I told you the story about the Michigan game that year?”
Blaine had heard the story multiple times before, but he let his dad tell it again anyway, making sure to laugh and gasp in the right places. He had the wry thought that at least he was getting some acting practice, playing the role of an engaged, doting son.
.
At 10pm, Blaine grabbed his mother’s keys from the hook by the door and drove her car into town, parking outside the Watering Hole.
Blaine had never gone to bars much in Ohio - he’d moved away before he was 21, and had visited infrequently since. Sam had taken him to this place over a Thanksgiving break in college, and it seemed the kind of bar that would still be open on Christmas Eve. He just needed to be out of his childhood home, away from his parents and their expectations for an hour or two.
He went in and found it unexpectedly busy. Not crowded, but far from deserted. He ordered a beer and perched at an open table against one wall, where he could people-watch or stare at the TV behind the bar.
“Excuse me?”
Blaine turned towards the voice, and when he saw the man standing behind him, he felt like he’d taken a punch to the chest. It wasn’t pain so much as shock, the air temporarily knocked out of his lungs as he beheld the older - but definitely very recognizable - form of none other than Kurt Hummel.

Hey, hey, hey, thanks @cerriddwenluna for the tag. Happy Christmas December 10th to you too.
I have some news! The 4th chapter of my Klaine December Fanworks challenge is finally done (everyone cheers) and I have settled on a title. The chapter isn't even that long but the combination of not having time, having doubts about what I'm doing, prioritising my Secret Santa fic AND being fucking tired most of the time meant it took some time. Eh.
But before the chapter is up, have six sentences of the chapter. Yes, these are six sentences:
“Or, well, actually… it made me think, because how does all of this work? How do I know I’m gay, cause I told Quinn she doesn’t have to know, but then why do I?” “Well-” “And I know you’re right and it’s all up to me and I even said something similar to Quinn and I agree with it, but this is also all so confusing and weird cause the two of us genuinely thought we were totally straight half a year ago so how is it possible that I do know these things and she doesn’t, so do I even know anything or am I rushing into this, or maybe not, because Quinn said that all that matters to her is that she loves Denise and I get that because at the end of the day I know for sure I am madly in love with you, so there is no doubt that I am not straight, but then what gives that I also don’t have doubt that I am gay but she apparently has and should I even care because in the end I am happy with myself, but she seemed upset when I assumed she’s a lesbian, so I feel really bad about everything and now I have the feeling I have done something wrong in my journey because shouldn’t I be more confused like Quinn, because this all came out of nowhere for me as well.”  Kurt needs a moment to process this and Blaine also sounds a bit out of breath. “Good morning to you,” Kurt says again.
Oh Blainers.
To be fair to him, sexuality is a mess.
Also, I mentioned my Secret Santa fic. I think I have planned an ending, I just need to write it, and I need a damn title. Titles. My enemy.

Hello Everyone!
Tumblr media
This is a long one, so apologies in advance!
You may notice the Klaine Advent looking a little different this year! As noted in an earlier post, we’re rebranding to the December Klaine Fanworks Challenge!
There are a handful of reasons we’re doing this, but hopefully this little refresh will get people excited about participating all the way to the end. For consistency this year this event will remain attached to the Klaine Advent blog, and we’ll determine after the event whether we need to change that in the future.
So, how are things changing?
There will be still be a daily word (yay!), these are chosen via a random word generator, and are NOT themed in any way. These words will post on this blog every day around 6 am Eastern Standard TIme.
That said! Since it is December, and Glee comes with a Christmas episode every year, and Klaine do have a Christmas duet tradition (more years than not anyway…) we will also be posting a weekly theme! These will be holiday flavored, and we are kicking off this inaugural event with the theme of Christmas Songs. Each weekly themed post will highlight a different song and some selected lyrics.
On to the details!
The Dates. December 1 - December 21
The Words. Every day around 6am, US Eastern Standard Time, a fresh new word will pop out of the queue. This year the words are not alphabetical, and were chosen by a random word generator. The wonderful @caramelcoffeeaddict did all of the artwork again this year!
How to participate. Anyone can contribute, no need to sign up! There will be a single word prompt post each day for 21 days (December 1-21), and a holiday themed post every Friday beginning December 1, with the final themed post dropping December 22. You can write a drabble (or a sentence or a novel, if you like), create an art piece, make fresh gifs based on the prompt - whatever inspires you! This year the tag will be: “december klaine challenge 2023” and please tag with the word of the day so volunteers can ID the posts they need to reblog (please please please make sure all of your contributions are tagged so we can find them!).
Contribute however works best for you. You can do something every day, every 4th day, once a week, altogether at the end, whatever works for you and your schedule. Use all the prompts or pick and choose what speaks to you. Set your own challenges. The only requirements for the Challenge are that it be Klaine centered, and that it references or uses one the word (or theme) prompt in some way.
Volunteers will be reblogging fics to the @todaydreambelieversfic blog, so you can always go scroll the blog to find the latest entries.  Of course everyone (especially the authors!) would be delighted if people reblogged to their own blog - the more people who reblog something the wider the potential viewing audience. We want to encourage everyone to reblog as many fics as they like all throughout the month!!
Partnership. This year again we’ll be partnering with @todaydreambelieversfic.  Authors and other creators for Klaine Advent who would like an additional place to promote their works are welcome to join as members. Just send a private message to @todaydreambelieversfic with your email address and they’ll add you to the blog membership.
Archive of Our Own. We have created a collection on AO3 for those people who don’t post to tumblr, and where those folks who do post to tumblr can share their advent works if you like! The collection will be up this weekend and I'll make another post when that's rolling.
Want to Volunteer? We can always use people to help with the daily reblogs!  If you can spare one or two days please signup here!!
“But what if I don’t write or make art and don’t have time to volunteer?”  You are the most important person in the Advent!! Read the fics, look at the art, let the authors and artists know how much you appreciate their work by reblogging and commenting and liking and all those things creators like. Nothing helps a writer or artist losing steam get motivated more than a nice comment from someone.
I think that covers everything, so if you have any questions or there’s something that’s not clear, please ask!
Happy Writing!!
@slayediest

Chapter 1: Calm Down [239 words] Day 1: Plead [For the @klaineadvent December Challenge] Calm down. Kurt’s eyes flutter closed as he slides his hands down his thighs because his palms are clammy and tingling. Nervously, his eyes scan the unfamiliar surroundings, searching to ensure there isn’t a recognizable face. It might be New York—a long way from the narrowmindedness of Ohio—but that doesn’t make this mission any easier. Usually, he would order online, but currently, there is a huge in-store-only sale, and it’s simply too good to pass up. He looks around once more—this time wondering who might judge him—and musters the courage to decide he doesn’t care. Just own it, Hummel.
You can read more on AO3 [here].
