“Perhaps I needed to walk home,” she cut in sharply after his initial remark. Looking closer, she recognized the man from work. She’d have to be careful around him; she could tell he was a perceptive one. But perhaps he was worth befriending. She’d been meaning to make workplace connections for quite some time now as part of her cover, but had never gotten around to it.

After only a slight hesitation, she saw fit to approach the man. “I understand. I heard the reports in this area as well and decided to take the long way home...-just to see if I caught on to anything,” she lied flawlessly. The words fell from her tongue as though it were the gospel truth. A crafted, charismatic smile formed on her ruby red lips as she extended a hand towards the man. The vampress was absolutely flawless, just as supernatural lore might entail. The moonlight reacted with her ethereal, hazel eyes glow brightly. “I do believe we work together...-I’m Detective Reign.”

The moonlit backstreet and alleyways were the perfect hunting grounds for a child of the night -particularly for one who only felt it right to prey on criminals. Harper was one such vampire. The only ones who made it to her lips were those that had done harm to others: a life for a life.

Still, she took no pleasure in it. The vampress knew very well that taking their lives herself made her just as bad…-but it was either that or succumb to the maddness of her thirst and end up feeding on an innocent.

Whilst tracking the night’s dinner, she felt a pair of eyes watching her. Her heightened senses picked up on footsteps and breathing. She smelled them, even. But most of all, was the sound of their heart beating -the rhythm practically rang in her ears. Harper halted in her tracks, turning around to meet those peering eyes directly. She raised a brow, her hazel irises glowing dangerously, “is there a reason you see fit to follow me?”

You come from a long line of people in the police business so it was no surprise to anyone that you decided to follow suit. It was as if you didn’t have much of a choice, as your parents didn’t seem willing to accept any other career path that you might have picked. Even as a kid, they pushed you into following the family business and didn’t care to ask you what you thought about the idea. You can remember childhood spent wearing police uniform costumes and how everyone found it adorable. Until one Halloween that you dressed up as a criminal and your parents banned you from ever trick or treating again. Now you find yourself sitting behind a desk most days, doing remedial work and wishing that your captain would let you look deeper into the mysteries surrounding this town.
