Hot take but I think a lot more people would like Jason if they didn’t immediately jump on the hate train when they open Lost Hero to see his name instead of Percy. And I think the people who joke and meme the frankly wild overreaction of not seeing Percy (*gasp* how DARE he not be in ONE book) are partially responsible for a number of people who come into the series hating Jason.

Do people not have media literacy? BOTH the Underworld and Tartarus were literally KILLING Will just by him BEING THERE. His health started dropping as soon as they really got there. It wasn't outright stated, but that's what context clues are for. He's basically a flower, which is extremely ironic with Apollo's love history. Flowers wilt, and die, without sunlight.

Yeah, Nico is a child of the Underworld, and Will needed to accept that he didn't need to be constantly saved. However, it's in Will's nature to be against the Underworld in a mental mindset. He lost every single one of his siblings except for TWO during TBOL and Manhattan. Events we NEVER see him mention (probably because Rick is really bad at having characters that aren't a select few ever have their trauma brought up, but yknow) to anyone.

Will isn't the only one that had things to work on, though. If Nico hadn't thought things out rationally, hadn't calmed down before thinking, he could've been the indirect reason Will died in Tartarus. The thing is, Nico STRUGGLED to think rationally, and we see it when he lashes out on Will before thinking AFTER the fact.

Bottom of the line: Will isn't a bad person for not liking the Underworld. And it's something he says he's working on at the end of TSATS, so people shouldn't fault him for it. The entire point of the book was them both having problems & their relationship not being all sunshine & rainbows.

I actually cannot believe some people thought that will "didn't have enough" character in tsats

the book was pretty Nico centric but the book was also tagged with "a Nico di Angelo adventure" so what did you expect??

was his backstory on how he was found by a satyr and attacked by the stph-whateverthefuck birds not a compelling introduction to his life?

was the impact from the underworld hitting him so hard he was practically dying not enough for you? Was him doing his best to please Nico even though he had no idea what he was doing not enough?

what about the conversation he had with Persephone? What about when he built a makeshift fort for Nico to sleep in and walked off to scout the area because he just wanted to be useful?

clearly Will was given chaarcter in this book and if I see one more person say that he wasn't developed even slightly during tsats I will explode

Will was shown to be an overthinking, awkward boy who just wants to help anyone he can and that is his character

His character isn't and has never been "just Nico's boyfriend" so I don't know why we're complaining about that and ignoring wills development

with that being said I do agree that the second tsats book should central around will. It's a solangelo book the first one was mainly about Nico so yes I think this one should be about will

Rick please tag the sequel as "a Will solace adventure" that would literally compete my life thank you

MadoHomu: my 1st sweet tragic yuri lmao. i watched pmmm in 2019 along with the rebellion movie and am so excited for the movie this year. the aesthetics of these 2 just tickles my brain in the perfect spot and gives me so much joy in drawing them (also they turned me bi)

Solangelo: started shipping them during my read of trials of apollo and got even more obsessed after getting my hands on the physical copy of tsats. was never into the sunshine and grumpy dynamic but these 2 just made it fun and never boring for me. my 2 precious pookies<333

Klance: a little late on the train but the dynamic is too dang powerful and so it got me. a timeless classic really and who doesnt love rivals to lovers? gotta give it to klance for giving me so much inspo for drawing and actually posting on tumblr.

tldr: all these ships all marked a significant discovery and change in my shipping tastes

Totally fair question! I do talk a lot about how Percy can be interpreted as Black (or generally a character of color) in the books, but I don't actually usually headcanon/depict him as Black specifically!

I am fond of the hc, and I have drawn him like that before - including with tighter curls like you mentioned (both show!Percy and book!Percy!). I'm a big fan of exploring different character designs in general. That's why I run @pjocharacterdesign!

My usually hc for Percy though is actually him being Native Hawaiian! My spider-Percy art is probably my best art example so far of how I generally view him:

I just think he's neat :3c When I do the little like 5 minute or less/extremely simplified doodles of him I tend to make his hair a lot more blocky so it ends up looking like a straighter texture, but he has wavy-ish hair to me.

I do also like varying hair textures in characters in general though. It's more fun when everybody has a wide range of features! Especially from a character design perspective. Character variety go brr.

And re: Hazel, thank you!!! I have curly hair myself and i loooove drawing curls a lot. They're very fun to render :Dc

I just had possibly greatest/strangest fic idea

so character A is a math nerd and character B is in their math class and they like each other, the usual. Character A decides to show their love by literal equations to solve to confess. So every day they give character B a literal equation to solve and in the end they spell out "i like you"

hiii king, fellow will solace truther i see <3 fav will headcanons/canon facts ppl forget about/fav fanarts of him/literally anything else?

First of all, I personally quite like the headcanon that he originally had brown hair and it turned blonde when Apollo claimed him and, for canon facts, I love that he canonically carries around chloroform. Wish more people (including Rick. stop making my boy a defenceless idiot 😭) remembered/acknowledged that.

And, in my head, Will spent a lot of his time with his grandparents as a young child because Naomi was busy touring and she didn’t want to subject a kid to the constant loud noises (although, I do quite like the deaf/HoH Will headcanon, that’s always fun to read).

Also, not necessarily my favourite headcanon, but, a crack-ish headcanon/AU thing I’ve thought about recently is:

What if Will lived in a relatively Christian area as a kid and, due to his healing powers combined with the mist showing people what they expect to see, a bunch of people were just kinda convinced that he was Jesus. Like, let’s be real, if someone was walking around ‘waiting for Jesus to return’ and then they see some little kid just magically heal someone: they might wonder ‘is that him??? Is he back??????’. Basically just a prime example of ‘when the mist goes wrong’.

had a realization that's making me insane but we as a fandom weren't angry enough abt sunshades

also, this is entirely related, so I'm dragging them here too, but the voltron fandom was not angry enough abt Shiro's sudden gayness

now, the similarities are these:

both were retconed gay during the second half of their series

both were given their "endgame" romantic interest at the very end of their series (yes I know TOA exists now, but it came out in 2016, 2 years after BOO)

both fandoms became really weird abt those who dared to have shipped the character with a girl (Nico was canonically gay for longer than Shiro was in their respective media, so it's very rare to see those old ships, but they exist all the same)

both fandoms were all too happy to start extreme shipping them with their last minute love interest (the voltron fandom latched to Adam so hard it makes the sunshades seem tame, Curtis way less so)

the differences:

the voltron fandom should've been angry bc Shiro hadn't had any buildup as a gay character (whatever shippers saw notwithstanding), the problem being that if the show had gone with it's original Shallura plans (I saw this in like a commentary on how the show got made), they would've had to make someone else queer (for bait reasons), and they couldn't make hunk queer cause they did the whole thign with Shay, and Pidge was the youngest so like,,, they couldn't make keith queer cause he's the only "white" character and therefore has to be the token straight protag, and if they made Lance queer without makign klance happen I think something would've exploded.

so last minute gay shiro, burry your gays trope included! but oh, don't worry, he gets married to this random two seconds background character in the end!!

the PJO fandom, on the other hand, went through more than half of HOO watching Nico and Jason be like thatTM and then just, acepted will? the same ppl who tell you valdangelo wouldn't happen cause they had only one interaction? those ppl??

what, they just took the 1.5 bit at the VERY END of BOO and ran with it? I know lack of representation was a lot worse back then, but if that thing came out now I don't trust y'all to call it out like you should

like, I remember spending that whole scene being like "who the fuck's this guy" cause I didn't register background characters unless they were plot relevant, and nothing about that scene was all that romantic either

it makes me so angry, and when they announced the show I hoped they'd make it as close to the books as possible bc then maybe more ppl would see it two, but apparently Riordan added to the first series post-fact? and the tv series is already making changes?? and they'll probably work sunshades into it earlier bc of TSATS but gods, even if they don't it might still not happen, bc y'all just settle for scraps.

anyway, sorry for the rant, I jsut wanted to get it off my chest, and sorry if I offended y'all, I just think you deserved better.
