•Masterlist
•pairing: songwriter Kim Namjoon x oc with chronic pain
•word count: 3,465
•genre: escapism, hurt/comfort, smut, established relationship
•rating: MATURE/ 18+
•warnings: current event commentary, somewhat anti- American sentiment (I live in Texas so I see a lot of mess first hand 🫤 it’s my country but my god, it’s messy), stress, chronic pain, high sensitivity, sensory issues, first person voice, smut smut smutty smut, oral (female receiving and male), tandem oral, smex, doggy style?, Namjoon’s big brain during smex, smut with feelings and a lot of thoughts (as usual) ((all my air sign placements really coming out to play
•a/n: idk what this is, besties, besides extremely unedited and wildly indulgent. I may change the voice out of first person and all the “i’s” to “you’s” but it’s up the way it’s up for now. 🤷🏽‍♀️The world is just a horrifying place right now, especially in the US, and I just wanted to write something that felt like a small refuge, spend a little time some place that felt better, so we’re back in Namjoon’s living room. Also, who better to escape into the woods and away from reality with than the founder of namjooning himself ((also also, that bit about Pennsylvania was 100% true. It’s wild here, man))
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“I cannot get comfortable for the life of me,” I huff grumpily.
It’s a Monday night, late in March. The threat of rain has been looming for hours. Despite its sudden absence in the forecast when I check the weather app, I can still feel it in my bones. In the raw, creaky way my joints scrape against each other. The way the inflammation in my body burns like fire ants beneath my skin.
Namjoon is quick to notice from across the room.
“This weather’s been making your body feel like hell this spring.”
“Yeah, I hate to begrudge it though. Winter was even worse.”
“Gosh, it really was huh?” He frowns at the laptop screen on his desk. He’s got the tiniest beanie shoved on his very big head but somehow, it works. The tips of his hair peak past the beanie’s brim, brushing the mussed hair of his furrowed eye brows. “God, I can’t stand to stare at a screen a second longer.”
He peels his gold rimmed glasses off his nose, rubbing the little indentions they've made along the bridge and pressing his fingers into his closed eye sockets. I can tell he’s exhausted and miserable too about how much energy life seems to require of him these days.
“I’m going to scoop you up and make you the most comfortable woman in the world, I promise. Just give me like three minutes.” He tips back in his desk chair, the spine of it sliding out to a wide reclined angle as his long legs stretch out in front of him.
“Why did we spend so much money on a couch that’s not even comfortable, joonie?” I whine, shifting once again.
“Because the last one was even less comfortable than this one,” he reminds me, “and at least this one is cognac leather,” he shrugs. “It’s comfy on the eyes at least”
“Well I need it to be comfy for my bones.” I grunt, shoving yet another throw pillow out of your way. “Maybe we should pick up and move to the shore, like in a regency novel. I think the air would be good for me. I wonder if American healthcare accepts existential dread and deep chronic pain as enough of a reason to just financially support us until I turn to dust.”
“You and your TikTok algorithm both know as well as I do that America will do no such thing,” Namjoon chuckles with his eyes closed.
“I know…. But they should take at least some culpability. God knows most of my health problems probably exist BECAUSE of them.” I slide the strap of my bra and shirt off my shoulder, not because I want to be a seductress but because the elastic is cutting into my throbbing right trap muscle and if I don’t get some of the tension off of it, I might scream.
“Right? Did you hear about the latex spill in the Delaware river yesterday? The entire city of Philadelphia doesn’t have usable drinking water right now. My friend there literally got a text message about it from the city strongly recommending every use bottled water only until
Further notice. One and a half million people woke up to that text Message! It’s insane.” Namjoon pulls his oversized hood up over his beanie as he looks up at the ceiling, ankles crossed beneath the desk.
“Lord, haven’t we lived through enough of this? I’m so tired, joonie.” I can hear how pitiful I sound. To his credit, he treats me just the same as when I sound intellectually astute and strong. I’ve always liked that about him.
“If the world is going to hell in a hand basket anyway, maybe we should look into a- moving internationally and b- signing up for a payment plan on one of those YouTube influencer mattresses,” Namjoon tips his head my way, and suddenly my heart feels a little more light.
“Ooo, the helix?“ I smile, for perhaps the first time tonight.
His dark eyes twinkle in the low evening lamplight.
“ I actually did some research and found one made out of avocados.”
“Is that as close as I can get now that my body has decided it’s allergic to Avos?”
Namjoon’s eyes crinkle as he laughs. “God, your body would find a way to betray you like that wouldn’t it?”
“It’s not my fault I’m too delicate for this world,” I shrug.
“I forget you were born inside a flower that protected you from the world with its petals until it bloomed, thumbelina.”
“If I could take a nap inside a peony right now, I’d do it in a heartbeat…. The pollen might be too much though.” I sigh.
“Come here,” Namjoon laughs, standing from his chair and extending his hand toward me.
“Where are you taking me?”
I slip my knuckles between his and knock against his shoulder with my head.
“To my bumblebee. Take you on a spin around the block” he winks.
“I’m surprised you didn’t say take a ride. It’s like the only lyric you use these days” I snicker, bumping the curve of my hip into his.
“You’re supposed to write what you know,” he shrugs.” It’s not my fault your hips are your area of expertise.”
He winks at me and god, if he took every piece of clothing off of me right now, I’d ride him in a heartbeat.
Shit. Knowing him, he can probably feel my response to him without even looking at me. Sure enough, he looks down, smiling until his dimples dip in his cheeks, and damn it, I’m so captivated by the focaccia dough dips in his face that I stumble into the corner of the wall. My hip catches and I yelp, more embarrassed than in pain.
“Shh, hey, I got you.”
That calm voice of his is so low right now as his palm curves around the dip in my hip that got nicked by the wall. I tip into his long, warm torso and let him guide me into the bedroom. I’m clearly too disoriented and agitated to make it here without careening into something else and frustrating myself, so I’m happy for the assistance. Besides, being scooped up in Namjoon’s substantial hands is never a bad place to be.
“Thanks, baby. I needed that.”
I press my temple into his chest, kiss his ribs. Marvel at the resistance of muscle I feel beneath his soft green shirt. I press my nose into the fabric and let the warmth of him calm me. His other hand strokes soft knuckles along my jaw. His touch is so light and sweet - I feel my shoulders drop as he does it.
“Pick me up?” I whisper, eyes lifting softly to look up at him from where I’m pressed into his chest.
His hands slide up my sides, palms pressed into my waist as he lifts me. The soft grunt he makes as my thighs wrap around his ribs makes something in my brain feel a little fuzzy. Life is better like this, I think. Our faces nuzzled cheek to cheekbone, his hands fitted beneath my thighs, mine trailing softly through the silky bits of his hair peeking out of the back of his beanie as my arms drape over his shoulders like fabric. I can feel the knot of tension in the middle of my spine begin to untie itself as I melt into him. God, I’m so happy he exists.
“Where would you like to go, princess?”
Namjoon kisses the top of my ear, and that fuzzy tingle in my brain is back.
“What are my options?”
I press my lips softly to his throat in light, meditative kisses. They’re more like delicate exhales. My tongue barely tips out to taste his skin. Just a touch. Just a taste. Sleepy and slow because that’s all I have the energy for. His eyelids do that hazy half flutter that tells me he likes it enough to pretend he doesn’t so that I’ll keep going. I smile as he gently tips his head to the side, as if waiting for my answer, but really he’s just giving me more room to access that spot behind his ear that likes my lips. Let’s humor the man.
“We could go to the bed, the shower, the bath…” he gasps a little on the last word, the ah sound coming out too airy as I gently mouth at his pulse point and his grip on my thighs gets tense. “Or there’s a ….counter right here.” His head tips toward the half bath in the hallway as his fingers dig into the meat of my legs.
When I look up to meet his eyes, they’ve gone serpentine. Deep and dark and heavy as he holds me close. I can feel how shallow his breathing is becoming and I smile, sleepy and soft as he watches me.
“Take me to bed, Joonie.”
He’s kissing me before I can even finish his name.
He tips the door open with one of his feet before squeezing us both through the threshold of it. With his eyes closed and his tongue between my lips, he’s bound to crash into something and he does. He thunks an elbow, I knock my head, but in seconds, he’s cradling it where I’ve bumped the wall, spilling “sorry, I’ve got you, sorry,” onto my tongue as he pulls me in closer.
The spell doesn’t break.
He’s big and he’s bulky but he’s careful with me as he lays me on the bed and climbs over me. His mouth doesn’t leave mine even as he peels off each piece of my clothing. His movements are slow, his touch tender as he does.
Namjoon has learned how to soothe my body when it’s alert like this. Knows the cool air feels refreshing and crisp when my skin is hot with pain and sensitivity so he gets me naked with a deft touch. He knows the feel of his skin is grounding for me so that soft green shirt of his hits the floor. Knows I love his hair so the beanie goes next. Knows I love the strength in his thighs so his shorts are next as he tugs my hips down beneath his to let me wrap my legs around his slim waist.
I'm so wrapped up in the warmth of him that I don’t realize he’s tugged my silk pillowcase beneath my head. It’s cool when my head falls back and I smile, toothy and wide, as his plush lips sink into my skin. He’s at my collarbone now, then the volume of my breasts. His breath is warm, the air is cool and his substantial hands grip me firm like dough he’s being careful with as he kneads.
His cock brushes against me between my legs and the bright feeling it sends sparkling through me makes my breathing stutter.
“Joonie,” I shiver, and I can feel him smile against my skin. See his eyes flash up at me in the dark.
“We do too much, baby.” He breathes, voice smoky and low like the dragon he is.
I don’t know what he means. My critical thinking is losing its sharpness as he suckles warm and soft at the dip of my ribs.
“Too much?” I can feel my brows crumpling, but his tongue is so warm on my stomach that my hands dig into his shoulders without my consent.
He reaches up to brush one hand over mine.
“Shhh, easy. We’re trying to relax you, not tense you up.”
He’s smiling. I can barely see him but I can feel him and I know his grin would only dissolve me deeper into the mattress.
“We do too much, we deal with too much. God, your skin is too motherfucking much,” he squeezes me, latches his soft mouth onto my waist and tugs at the skin. I can feel the bruise blooming there, but he’s off and on to the next before I can even get words out. “Your body is always trying to process all of it, but it’s too much. Let me take care of some of it- let me help.”
When His tongue slips between my legs, his strong hands push my legs wide, press them down when he feels me buckle. His breath is so warm, his mouth is so molten, his nose on my clit is so gentle- it all leaves my body in an exhale. Tension drops off like melted wax and I feel myself go supple in his palms as I let him do what he wants with me.
“There’s been so much chaos. So much to deal with. So much to do. I just want to run away from it all with you.”
His tongue is languid as it works on me. The rush of warmth undoes the aches in my body better than a hot bath ever has.
“Then let’s go, Joonie. Where do you want to go? I’ll follow you anywhere.” And I mean it. They’re not lusty rambles. They’re not hollow words. I’d follow him to the edge of the world.
He puts that plump mouth of his over my clit and the gentle way he slurps me up melts my bones into soup broth and clears my head.
“You’ll let me take you anywhere?”
He looks up at me, his mouth never leaving his post, working me slowly as he waits for my reply. His mouth is so wet, his eyes are so sharp and my body is just another piece of music he’s learned how to perfect. I nod, bottom lip bit between my teeth and relax as much as I can as he composes a symphony between my legs. His smile folds the crinkles around his eyes, and his aura flickers between lovingly soft and steadily authoritative as he doubles down, wrapping his arms around my legs to scoop my hips up into his face and pressing into me, deeper, faster, harder.
I arch up when he does, gasping as my shoulders lift up, my fingers twist in the bedspread, my jaw goes slack. He’s really doing a number on me and all I want to do is say thank you and let him continue.
He slides up my body then, one hand behind my head bringing my forehead to his as the other grips my hip with enough pressure to split it apart as he tips his cock inside me in a way I didn’t know I needed. The sound is squelchy and wet and he smiles as his nose bumps against mine.
“You’ll follow me?”
He sounds cocky in a way he hasn’t in a while and a little piece of me loves it. His hips are fluid as his cock rocks in and out of me. All I can do is nod wildly, disoriented as I clutch him close to me. My legs are folded up, feet along his hips for purchase with my knees butterflied wide. I’d laugh at how much I must look like a frog if this didn’t feel so good. He’s got a hand beneath my bum, lifting my hips off the bend and gliding his cock so deep into me that surely my organs are all shifting wide like the Red Sea to make room for him.
“Wherever you want to go,” I hum, arms falling slack. I’ve lost the energy to hold on to him, but he’s got me held up so precious and tight that we’re still more intertwined than two fibers of thread in a tight knit sweater. I’ve fused into him and now every breath is in tandem.
“I’m gonna take my girl away from here.”
His thumb brushes my bottom lip and I feel myself flush at his tenderness.
“Yeah?” My eyes are wide, following his. He hovers above me, furrowed face sculpted with intensity and aggression as his body works mine into ecstasy. I’ve really acquiesced to the fact that I’m nothing more than a soft lump of clay in his hands that he’s working with precision. I’ve always wanted to be a work of art.
He slips my breast into his mouth like a lychee jelly, moaning at the feel of me tightening around him when he does it. Pumping harder, faster, deeper, only to pull out and dip his long fingers into the mess he’s made. He slathers it over all my sensitive bits, caressing with finesse as sparklers crackle in my vision.
When He pulls me up and into him, my face is pressed between his pecs and god, I can’t keep it together. I kiss them furiously as he works, clutching onto his arms, dragging my fingers down his abs as he slides his glossy fingers over my clit like he’s casting a spell. I can’t breathe… I can’t breathe… I can’t….
But I can because I have to- Namjoon won’t ease up until he gives me the sweet oxytocin of release by his hands and I wouldn’t have it any other way. So I dig deep and exhale slow and controlled, whimpering as he rockets past that orgasm to send me into preparing for the next one. He smirks like I’m his plaything and I comply with no resistance. I’ll have as many rounds as he gives me. I’m a big girl. I can handle- Oh!
At least, I thought I could handle anything. Naive me, I suppose.
I smile into the sheets when he tips me over onto all fours. He kisses my shoulders, kisses along my spine, brushing his thumbs on the folds on my hip, all tender and kind and syrupy sweet as the behemoth between his legs tips ever so slowly inside of me despite my incredible tightness, and I don’t know whether to breathe or scream so I press my face into the bedding and giggle like there’s something wrong with me.
“Take you somewhere quiet,” he slides in deeper. “With no noise,” he thrusts. “No news.” He thrusts. “Just nature.”
My chest feels tight with affection but my body feels limps like a rag doll as he pumps me silly. His gargantuan hands holding up my hips are the only thing keeping me from sliding off the bed and melting into the floorboards.
“Joonie, i’d- I’d love that,” soft puffs of air leave me with each fluid roll of his hips. The snap at the end of the graceful flourish knocks my skull a little loose but I don’t mind. Thinking so little is really quite nice.
“Take you for walks, lay with you in nature, fuck you like this in an outdoor bath tub while we watch the stars.”
His hand glides down my spine as he paints beautiful pictures with his words. My heart and my body don’t know which way is up.
“Escape all this chaos. At least for a little bit.” He smirks. I catch a glimpse of it as I look over my shoulder, reach back to hold his hand.
“I might never let you drag me back to the real world.” My smile is gooey, fond and so is his now. His dimples have come out - all his sincerity and heart on display, as his hips still even as he still fills me up.
“I can write poetry in the wild,” he shrugs. “My music would probably be better for it.”
He looks bashful and soft. The juxtaposition of his strong body and sweet face make me dip forward. He slides out of me, watching with confusion as I guide him to stand beside the bed.
When I flip onto my back, letting my head loll backwards off the bed in front of him, he arches a brow at me. I just chuckle and pull him forward by the back of his legs.
“Come here. I want to make my own music.”
I take the length of him into my mouth and he topples over, hands bracing on either side of me on the bed. He groans so sweet and low that I smile as I take him deep. His knees buckle when my nose tips softly against his balls as I suckle him slowly and it takes everything in me not to laugh at how happy I am.
His hands travel my body as his mouth occupies itself. He makes a meal of my breasts, takes a drink between my legs, holds my throat to lighten my breath. When we cum in tandem, he collapses to my side as we catch our breath in silence.
The night is still, the air is cool and rain is finally trickling against the windows.
Our bodies are spent and our plan is set.
We’ll run away soon enough.
But now, cradled breast to breast, we sleep knowing our world is just the smallest bit brighter.

#3 for your whole squad 👀👀👀 - @xynchronicity  3. How does their social personality differ from how they act when they’re alone? the whole squad WHICH I DESERVE
Abril: She is incredibly extroverted in person and speaks to herself when she’s alone. Sometimes doesn’t know how to be quite. [ “It’ll be fun they said, fly to Rialto they said” ]
Akande: Incredibly intimidating and professional among watching eyes. You have to be in this business everyone is looking to cut their strings [ or get thrown over a waterfall ] so it isn’t good to let his guard down. On his own time he’s rather somber. A man that likes to read and sit by the fire for some peace.
Angela: She is incredibly professional and rigid with nearly everyone having been in the medical field in most of her developmental years she’s got some emotional dissonance and struggles maintaining and keeping relationships. Which ironically is no different than she is on her own. Which is the MAIN problem.
Widowmaker: Widow is almost a ghost of  Amélie when she’s alone. She talks to herself in French, like she’s speaking to an entirely different part of her psyche sometimes. She says and does things she cannot explain, which are muscle memories from her past life. She is mostly silent and resolved when among others. Doesn’t speak unless spoken to.
Delilah: All my muses are so professional, they have an image to protect. Delilah is no different, she is trying to bridge the gap between humans and omics. Though it’s not going so well. Despite her peppy attitude, in her solitude she feels incredibly alone and sometimes seems to droop and sag when she’s on her own.
Delaware: Barz is the grumpiest old man to ever exist. He speaks his mind when around others. He doesn’t hesitate to give Ashe a piece of his mind because he’s been around long enough he feels comfortable doing that. You’ll often hear him grumbling like the old cod he is when he’s on his own.
Genji: Genji has a lot of self loathing he still struggles with on his day to day for the hand he played in his own fate and how he pushed Hanzo. But does his best to be upbeat and cheerful around others so that he doesn’t worry them. He’s may have recovered from his rage but it still exists. Don’t be fooled, Genji finds ways to take out that bottled up rage in a healthier manner than lashing out at others like he used to but normally does that on his own.
Jack: Angry. He’s so angry all the time, he lashes out so easily at others now even the people he was close to or loved. He has these large stone walls that incircle him. But on his own he just sits in silence reflecting on all the mistakes he made. Trying to figure out how he got here and how he can put an end to it.
Hana: Hana’s entire life is on the grand stage and people thing she’s this KAWAII DESU sort of gamer girl, but D.Va is a persona that she puts on to keep her people at peace about the dangers beyond. On her own, she’s far more serious, a hero complex in the making. Spending 90 percent of her time perfecting combat and the MEKA. She’d rather be prepared than famous.
Hanzo: Hanzo has a very bull headed resistant attitude to anyone that approaches him. But in his private time he refuses to look in the mirror, really against his own reflection because if he stares at it for too long he’ll realize he is the monster everyone says he is.
Soyon: Soyon does not express emotion in similar ways as people, she often has a fox like curiosity when around people, often shaped by the people she spends time with. She only turns feral around the Shimada’s, but she is one of their protectors. Soyon is a woman of very few words both in her own time and among others. She is a bit more sly when on her own though, sometimes smiling for no reason.
Moira: She’s a huge nerd, which is masked by her disdain for humanity and dislike for nearly everyone she works with. Her eye rolls are hard to take seriously when you know she’s rocking out to anime openings and j-pop, to which she knows all the words to and definitely sings to herself when she things no one is around.
BONUS: Echo: Echo is curious, constantly asking questions when she’s around people, often repeating things over and over - not necessarily because she didn’t hear you but becasue she’s saving those words in her data bank. On her own she often practices her impressions where they don’t freak anyone out.

Miniature Bull Terriers
Temperament:
- Upbeat, Mischievous, Comical, Fearless, “Terrier fire”
Size:
- Height: 10-14 in @ the shoulders
- Weight: 18-28 lbs
Life Expectancy:
- 11-14 yrs
- activity levels tend to slow down around 11-12 yrs
About:
- Almost exactly like the Bull Terrier
- Square, muscular, strong for their size
- Large, egg-shaped head and dark, triangular eyes
Nutrition:
- In order to not change a dog’s diet too fast, find out what your new puppies diet was at the breeder’s.
- For a day or two a puppy may not eat because of the new surrounding, any longer than that; contact a vet.
- Don’t leave food down for a puppy if it doesn’t clear it.
- If the puppy experiences any other symptoms, then contact a vet
- If not, the puppy is most likely ‘training the owner’, bull terriers tend to do this, don’t put the food back down and continue with feeding normally.
- Follow breeder/vet advice on portions; bull terriers are sensitive to becoming    overweight.
- Ask your breeder for a natural method feeding chart
- Bull terriers have very powerful jaws and can chew off and swallow pieces of bones which can cause blockages in the digestive system.
- Don’t give your mini bull terrier bones
- Raw hide chews should NEVER be given to bull terriers (including minis!)
- They can be swallowed and get stuck in the throat
Grooming
- Minis have fast growing nails, regular trimming is needed
- Minis are prone to “eye boogers”, just use a damp clothe to wipe them away and then a dry cloth to dry whenever you spot these
- At home weekly ear checks, look for wax (use a cotton ball to gently remove any wax), or infection (redness, swelling, bad odors). If any signs of infection, contact a vet
- Regular teeth brushing and vet cleanings
- Regular baths (every three months, unless your mini plays in dirt or mud (which is not unlikely!) then use a bristle brush to remove dirt then bathe immediately.)
- Use a hypoallergenic shampoo, minis have very sensitive skin.
- Outside shedding season a weekly once-over with a soft brush or a hound glove is all that’s needed for a well groomed bull terrier!
- During the twice a year shedding season (spring and fall) a daily once-over is recommended.
Basic Brushing
You’ll need: a bristle brush, a fine-tooth comb, and a grooming glove
1. Use bristle brush, start at head and work down he dog’s body, ending with the hind flanks (the space between the hip and thigh) and the tail. Be gentle but thorough!
2. Use the comb, use long strokes to remove loose hair.
3. Use the grooming glove.
4. (Opt.) Spritz a little conditioning spray or rub on a bit of coconut oil
Exercise
- Mini bull terriers require enough exercise to keep good muscle tone.
- Preferably access to a yard but can live in a sizable apartment or condo.
- A moderate walk daily is needed after the 1 year point
-  NOT AN OUTSIDE DOG
- A “sudden lameness” can occur in puppies
- Puppies’ joints can’t handle the energy the puppy wants to exert
- Minimum exercise, no jumping up and down from heights, or sudden stops at high speeds for puppies
Training
- Minis will usually require a trainer with a firm hand and a gentle voice, with patience and a good sense of humor
- Clicker training is recommended
- Positive, light, and fun training that keeps the terrier’s attention is most effective
- Heavy socialization from 8-20 wks is essential, and starting training early is a good idea
- Canine Good Citizen programs are awesome!
- Some cool trainers listed by state below!
Health
Ask your breeder for:
- Health tests performed on sire and dam (father and mother)
- Results on heart and kidney issues, deafness, luxating patellas (a kneecap disorder), and primary lens luxation (dislocation of the eye lens) tests
Recommended Health Tests:
- BEAR Testing
- Kidney-Urine Analysis
- Opthalmologist Exam
- Cardiac Exam
- PLL DNA Test
- May have issues with glaucoma, lens luxation, and deafness
- Susceptible to kidney disease
- Regular hearing and eye exams are highly recommended.
Official Breed Club Health Statement
History
- Bull terriers were created as fighting dogs in 1830s England
- Cross between bulldogs and (now extinct) english terriers
-  Soon a mini version was worked on to use as above-ground ratters (it’s exactly what is sounds like.)
- Recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1991 as their 134th breed.
Other Future Owner Info
Energy Level: Energetic
Children: Better with older children
Barking: Likes to be vocal
- Can’t be home alone for too long
- Will get bored and tear apart everything
- They can suffer from separation anxiety which can cause nonstop barking and chasing of the tail incessantly
- Incredibly affectionate
-  Unneutered male don’t get along with other males

Looking for some fall fun? From coast to coast, there are Halloween pet parades that have dogs putting the wow! in bow wow. Here’s a peek at these annual events from around the country.
1. Haute Dog Howl’oween Parade in Long Beach, California
Ahoy, doggies! These Boston Terriers took the 2016 Best in Show at the 16th annual Haute Dog Howl’oween Parade in Long Beach, California.
This is the 18th year that the Haute Dog Howl’oween Parade has been marching on. More than a parade, this event includes pet adoption and vendor fairs. Judges rate costumes on originality, showmanship, costume details and first impression — and there’s lots to judge. For example, the 2016 parade had more than 550 dogs entered! Humans of all ages are welcome to dress up and join the parade.
Event details: Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2:30 p.m. The start/finish is at Marina Vista Park, 5355 E. Eliot St., Long Beach, CA 90803. Registration begins at 12:30. $5 for front-row seating (fees are donated to a pet organization). Vendor fair and pet adoption fair is in the park from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Visit hautedogs.org/howloween.html.
2. Spooky Pooch Parade in Chicago, Illinois
Bella, a Shi Tzu- Pomeranian mix, rolled away with the prize for Best Senior at the Spooky Pooch Parade, with a horticulture theme perfect for the venue!
Dogs are allowed in the Chicago Botanic Garden for just two hours a year — for the Spooky Pooch Parade. Nonprofits and vendors are on hand, er, paw, to sell dog-related products and share info. Costume categories include best dog/owner costume, best puppy, best senior and, in keeping with the venue, best horticultural interpretation. This marks the fifth year cleverly costumed canines strut their stuff to celebrate Halloween. And maybe stopping to smell the roses!
Event details: Saturday, Oct. 20, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe, IL 60022. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Parade starts in the Krasberg Rose Garden. Dogs must be on leash at all times and leave the Garden by 2 p.m. Viewing the dog parade is free. Anyone bringing a dog, whether entered in the parade or not, must pay the registration fee. Visit chicago botanic.org/dog.
3. Howl O’Ween Dog Parade in Geneva, Illinois
This Bullmastiff won Scariest prize at the 2017 Geneva Park District Howl o’ ween Dog Parade.
For the eighth year in a row, canine competitors vie for top honors at the Howl o’ Ween Dog Parade. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative, funniest and scariest costumes. Will your favorite entry be boo-tiful or just creeping it real?
Event details: Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Farm Park, 4038 Kaneville Road, Geneva, Illinois 60134. Line-up is at 1:15 p.m. in the courtyard. No registration fee. Visit genevaparks.org/contact-us.
4. MainStrasse Village Paw-rade in Covington, Kentucky
If this parade was a person, it’s one year away from being able to vote! This is the 17th year for the MainStrasse Village Paw-rade and will feature vendors, prizes for the best costumes and overall fun for both those with two legs and four. Previous categories have included best original costume and, for those less crafty, best store-bought costume.
Event details: Sunday, Oct. 28 at Goebel Park in Mainstrasse Village. The event begins at 12:30 p.m., and the Pawrade starts at 2:30 p.m. There is a $5 registration fee for each dog. Visit mainstrasse.org/calendar –events.html.
5. Ocean City’s Howl-O-Ween Pet Parade in Ocean City, Maryland
This dog and owner go together like, well, you know. They won the Most Ocean City Spirit award in 2017.
This is the seventh year that dogs will be able to strut their stuff on Ocean City’s historic Boardwalk in festive style. (Cats, birds and other family pets are welcome, as well.) The event is free, and some lucky pups will win prizes. Monetary and pet supply donations will be collected to benefit the Worcester County Humane Society.
Event details: Saturday, Oct. 20 at N. Division Street on the Boardwalk at 1 p.m. Registration begins at noon. Visit ococean.com/events/howl-o-ween-pet-parade.
6. Sea Witch Halloween and Fiddlers Festival in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
Treating a pup like royalty, this was one of the top finalists in the 2016 Sea Witch® Costumed Dog Parade.
Feeling a little deja-boo? This is the 29th Annual Sea Witch Festival! It features multiple events including carnival rides and a 5K race, along with, of course, the ever-pupular dog parade. According to a member of the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce, “This is such a dog town, everyone dresses their dogs up.” If that’s a typical day, imagine the outfits today!
Event details: Sunday, Oct. 28 (weather dependent). Registration begins at noon at the North end of the Boardwalk near the Henlopen Hotel. $5 fee per dog. The parade begins at 1 p.m. on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk at Lake Avenue. Visit beach-fun.com/sea-witch- halloween-fiddlers-festival.html.
7. Nassau Barkfest Pet Parade and Costume Contest in Long Island, New York
This is the fifth year this parade will go on — rain or shine — with hundreds of dogs dressed to the nines. Organizers state this is Long Island’s largest pet parade, and they request all dogs be on a leash. (Which is good advice any time your dog is out and about, of course.)
Event details: Saturday, Oct. 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. (judging at 2:30 p.m.) at Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, New York. Admission is free. Contact [email protected].
8. Doggone Halloween Costume Parade in Boston, Massachusetts
Nala the Pomsky won Cutest Costume as a “Puppuccino” at the 2017 Annual Doggone Halloween Costume Parade.
This marks the fifth year dogs will be walking the streets of Boston in their frightfully festive finest. They will be judged for cate-gory-s that include best costume, scariest costume, best human-dog duo costume and the most creative costume. No empty paws here — every pooch goes home with a prize!
Event details: Monday, Oct. 29 from noon to 2 p.m. on Summer Street between Washington Street and Hawley Street in Downtown Boston. Visit downtownboston.org.

Week-End Update: Home Stretch Into The Holidays
Can you believe, Thanksgiving is only a few days away and some of the pups are super excited because they’ll be settled into their homes in time to celebrate how grateful they are to be a permanent member of their own furever family!
It feels like it was Shepherd week because Margie (now Maya), Rambo, Sophie & Tango all met great people ready to “put a tag on it” as it were. Ferguson (now Potter), Iggy, Juliette & Zoey all have homes in time for the holidays, as does Miss Shana (aka Ridley) who changed her name to Blossom.

  Vivi & mom
We’d like to thank Vivi FKA Victoria & her mommy for all the support they’ve given us, and a special thanks for all the items they donated to us this week too!
We have some pre-holiday updates to share with you:
Annalee FKA Anna Lee
#gallery-2 margin: auto; #gallery-2 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-2 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-2 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Here’s our precious Anna Lee at Halloween. We’re having a great time with her. Thanks for bringing her into our life!”
  Logan
“Logan is great. love his energy and spirit. Were discovering more of his traits as we go along. He’s very smart…..super fast. I like the idea of agility training. Love his confidence. He went to the vet today. He checked out great….a couple of parasites which we are treating for. Stool is still loose.  Crating is going well. We will definitely get him some training. such a great pup. I hope Sue’s family is not missing him too much. Thanks for checking in.”
  Charlie FKA Champ
Charlie FKA Champ
“Great to hear from TLC!
Charlie is doing brilliantly and loves his fellow canine Pip Marie. Charlie is loving, affectionate, funny, obediate and some how I feel “grateful” for a home where he is loved. Charlie can still “shy ” and does have more difficulty with males. Charlie is quite the watch dog off AND on leash and we are working on training him to understand he is safe – and that I am too.
We are so grateful to have Charlie – my son is so devoted to him as well. Thank you for providing a safe refuge for dogs before adoption!!! Here is a silly picture of Charlie having a laugh!”
Luna FKA Diana & Mady FKA Tamber
Luna and Mady
“Hi TLC Team! Luna developed a lump on her hind hip that we had checked out. Originally they told us it was a fatty mass, but told us if it got larger or harder, to bring her back. Well, wouldn’t you know it, it grew and got a bit firmer. They surgically removed it. She spent 10 days with that darn cone thing on her poor little head. It didn’t stop her from doing anything after 2 days. We were told to make sure she didn’t run around, yeah right, they know Luna!! Anyway, the biopsy came back as just a benign, fatty mass. We were all on pins and needles for about 2 weeks until we received the results. Luna is such a blessing to our family. She, along with Mady, bring our family so much joy and make us complete. I don’t know what we would do without them. Just took this photo of them, are they not the cutest puppies ever!!! Oh by the way, the vet told us that the fatty mass is very common for a boxer!!! So I guess Luna has some boxer in her! Happy Holidays!!”
  Ruger FKA Ruben
Ruger FKA Ruben
“Ruger is so happy and we love him more and more each day!
He is 40 lbs now and such a love bug! He gives hugs it’s adorable, he puts one paw on each shoulder and lays his head up to ours.”
      Jesse
“We adopted Jesse in September and she is amazing she let’s me rub her tummy and does a happy dance when we go out. She is so lovable and sweet. It’s so wonderful to see how much love can change a soul, thank you so much”
  Duke FKA Floyd
Duke FKA Floyd
“Overall, he’s been a “puppy”.
We get lots of compliments on the color of his coat. He’s really good with kids and loves attention. “
      Penny FKA Shayna
#gallery-3 margin: auto; #gallery-3 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-3 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-3 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Thank you for reaching out, I hope you’re doing well!
Penny is doing great 😀. She is such a sweet, loving dog- she has fit right into our life! Penny loves going for walks, playing in the dog park, and snuggling at night. She is mostly house trained at this point and passed level 1 of her dog obedience class! We’re hoping to get her in the next level class or agility class next year.
We are so grateful to have found her- thank you so much for all of your help and support!! I attached a few photos of our little muffin too!
We’re signed up for the newsletter but please continue to keep in touch and let us know if we can support TLC in any way. “
  Odie
“All is well with Odie! He has adjusted well to his new home. He’s a good dog! Loves taking walks, digging in the backyard & chasing squirrels & birds!!! He is also very playful & loves belly rubs and attention!! Lol
we love having him as part of our family! :)”
  Chester FKA Chase
Chester FKA Chase
“Chase (now Chester) is a happy boy- and so is Roxy! Thanks for finding us such a lovely boy!”
        Norah FKA Harley
Norah FKA Harley
“Norah turned 2 at the beginning of the month we’ve almost had her 2 years in January … she’s so perfect we love her so much and so does her big sister ”
        Remmi FKA Genny
Remmi FKA Genny
“I got the DNA testing back! Remmi (genny) is chow (as u mentioned all dogs are) white swiss and german shepherd, bulldog and boxer!! 🤗 🐶 i love her to pieces! Thanks so much!”
Lady’s pups celebrated their first birthday
Piper FKA Lally
#gallery-4 margin: auto; #gallery-4 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; #gallery-4 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-4 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
With our litter celebrating their first birthday this week, we wanted to send some updates on Piper (Lally).
She is up to 35 pounds and still very short.
She loves most other dogs, especially golden retrievers, yellow labs, and French bulldogs.
She loves to chase squirrels in the park, walk along the Delaware River on Penn’s Landing, and take lots of naps!
We thankfully got her stomach issues figured out through a mix of specialized food from Royal Canin and a daily probiotic.
She has also gotten a lot less anxious thanks to her vet recommending a daily dose of Prozac.
We would love to see photos and hear about the rest of the litter as well!”
  Copper FKA Laddie
#gallery-5 margin: auto; #gallery-5 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-5 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-5 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
I love seeing and hearing about Cooper’s (Laddie) siblings!
Cooper is a big boy!  He weighs about 50 lbs.  I’m hoping he’s done growing soon.
He’s VERY smart, playful and loves other dogs.  He’s not very affectionate but seems to be getting a little better.  He’s such a guard dog!   If he doesn’t know someone who comes over, all the hair on his back goes up. He’s friendly with everyone except some tall men. We can’t figure out why he picks and chooses.   He loves to play on his back while holding toys with his paws. Super funny!   He’s not a fan of the car since he gets sick.  Maybe he’ll outgrow it.
He’s also great using his doggy door.  He’s a rough and tough dog.  He loves digging, playing ball, frisbee (not a good jumper), going to the dog park and being with family. As you can see, he looks so much like piper but with much longer legs.
Thanks for the update and happy birthday to a great litter! 🎉🎉🎉”
  Luna FKA Laurie
#gallery-6 margin: auto; #gallery-6 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-6 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-6 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“It’s so great to see the other pups! It seems that our Luna (Laurie) is the only one with long fluffy hair in the litter! A dog trainer today told me she looked exactly like a Finnish spitz! When I looked it up I couldn’t believe the resemblance!
Luna is a very energetic and bright girl and gets along with other dogs very well. She is very cautious of new people though and will keep her distance until she warms up to someone. She had 2 spells of tummy issues at about 6 months old but we seem to have it under control now. She is a huge cuddle bug and wants nothing but to make us happy! She is quite the chewer though and tends to destroy all of her doggy sisters squeaky toys so we tend to keep those for supervised play time. She is fully grown at only 39 pounds but she has the biggest personality! “
  Endor FKA Lawler
#gallery-7 margin: auto; #gallery-7 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-7 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-7 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“I love seeing how everyone grew up!! My 1.5 year old instantly recognized Cooper and Piper because she started calling them “Endy” when we showed her the pictures.
Endor is also 50lbs. He’s losing his summer coat, so he looks pretty lanky right now. 🙂 He’s DEFINITELY a teenager! He loves playing ball and frisbee, and he enjoys chewing on bones and his antler. Does anyone else’s pup bury their treats??? I’ve NEVER had such a stereotypical dog in my life. If we give him a special bone or treat, he immediately starts looking for someplace to bury it (under the rug…in the yard…in the couch cushions… 🙄)
He’s a happy boy with a lot of energy. He loves his kids, cats, and mom and dad. And he enjoys chasing the squirrels in the yard. And digging holes. So many holes. In my garden, in my planters, in the lawn… Lol
We took a bunch of training classes, but now that I’m back to work, we’re taking a small hiatus.
One thing’s for sure: he is a very handsome boy!
Hope everyone else is well. Keep the updates coming, and happy birthday to the L Litter!”

“Nova had opportunity to visit with his cousin Ginger last week along with his two-legged brothers. Lots of car rides, pool time, and squirrel patrols. Both pups are doing great and bring us smiles everyday. Thank you for everything TLC does”
  Toby FKA Jacob (Jannece’s pup)
“Jacob (now Toby), is settling in great!  He only cried some the 1st night home, which I expected and anticipated and once I got him to settle down he slept without a peep the rest of the night.  Since then he has been doing great with crate training and sleeps great at night with 1 bathroom break in the middle of the night.  He goes right back to sleep until 6:30.
Potty training is going great too and I have started obedience training at the house with our family.  I am waiting for his first vet visit, which is scheduled for the 12th right now and is the soonest I could get him on the schedule.  I am working to see if I can get a sooner appointment through cancellations.
He really has been a great addition to the family and we couldn’t be happier.”

“Everything is great.   Rachel is really fun, and we’re keeping an eye out for a second dog to keep her company during the day.
Here are a couple pics”

“Tucker is doing great! We’ve got him to a healthy weight and he is happy as ever. Just two spoiled TLC alumni pups.”
Bodie FKA Washington (W litter from Oct 2016)
Bodie FKA Washington
“I wanted to let you know Bodie and I are doing great! Every time we leave the house people tell me how unique he is. We recently finished all levels of obedience school, and I’m looking into agility course training next. I also found a local place where I can let him off leash, which he loves. I couldn’t ask for a better dog!”
      Melba FKA Carly
“I wanted to let you know about our family life with Carly now after 2 weeks of having her. Please pass along to any of the others who would be interested in knowing.
First, we did change her name to Melba, formally “Melba Toast.” Because she is a companion to our dog Waif (formally Waifer) we thought the two names sounded cute together. Waifer is not quite spelled like a “wafer” but we sort of think of her name in that way.
Melba enjoys life here and oh boy is she people friendly! She definitely takes the more aggressive role between the two dogs. At first I thought it might be an issue but Waif has learned it’s not a mean thing but just Melba’s nature. Melba can be a little stingy when it comes to sharing people attention but I will tell her she can’t get all the people attention because Waif is looking for some too. Melba is starting to learn to share the attention.
Melba has also befriended our male cat Timmy and Timmy loves that he has another canine buddy. Waif and Melba both sleep together in my office at night where they each have their own bed and last night I was saying goodnight to them and Timmy insisted on being in my office with them. He slept the entire night with Waif and Melba.
Melba has been on a couple of short car rides and looks forward to them. She gets all excited when you pick up her leash and put it on her. She even takes part of the leash in her mouth and helps walk herself. I know she needs a little correction on that but honestly it’s quite funny to see.
In a nutshell; Waif has less issues when going through the doorway (one of her panic areas) and she is a little more confident and more relaxed since Melba came to live with us. We laugh because we have two very opposite dogs now! Melba could sleep all day and Waif could play all day. Melba wants all the attention and Waif is still a little people shy. Melba could use a little less waistline and Waif is sleek as a gazelle. It’s a perfect match!
Thank you and TLC Rescue for giving us the opportunity to adopt a companion for Waif and our family.”

“Chloe has been such a joy to have, she’s so sweet and loving! We decided to keep her name and she has gone in for her initial vet checkup. We’re working on some basic training at home but plan on enrolling her in classes once she masters the basics!
Her doggie days consist of car rides with my husband, Ben, to drop me off and pick me up from the train station, long morning walks, lots of playtime with her new friends at the dog park, and, of course, snuggles, naps and treats!
Here are some pictures of her doing her favorite things!”
  Shelli’s (FKA Shelley)
“ Absolutely wonderful. Adjusted within the first few hours. Take her to the dog park and have met many dogs there and around and 99% of the time she is great. “

Macoby FKA Edgar
“Hi TLC It’s Macoby fka Edgar I’ve been living here for 2 years now. As you can see I’m living life to the fullest. Mom and Dad had my DNA done and it turns out I’m German Shepard, Dalmatian, Chow, Boxer, Glen of Imaal Terrier and Lab Mix. They call me a Delaware Bay Retriever cause when I’m not floating in the pool I’m surfing the waves of the Delaware Bay. Thank you for my furever home ❤️ 🐶”
